Abstract:Let Ω ⊂ R N ( N > 2 ) be a C 2 bounded domain and Σ ⊂ Ω be a compact, C 2 submanifold without boundary, of dimension k with 0 ≤ k < N − 2 . Put L μ = Δ + μ d Σ − 2 in Ω ∖ Σ , where d Σ ( x ) = dist ( x , Σ ) and μ is a parameter. We study the boundary value problem (P) − L μ u = g ( u ) + τ in Ω ∖ Σ with condition u = ν on ∂ Ω ∪ Σ , where g : R → R is a nondecreasing, continuous function and τ and ν are positive measures. The interplay between the inverse-square potential d Σ − 2 , the nature of the source term g ( u ) and the measure data τ , ν yields substantial difficulties in the research of the problem. We perform a deep analysis based on delicate estimate on the Green kernel and Martin kernel and fine topologies induced by appropriate capacities to establish various necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution in different cases.

Abstract:Infinity, and the nonlinearity vanishes at least at order 2 at 0, it is well known that T epsilon = +infinity for a small enough. The aim of this gaper is to show that if one assumes only a weak decay of the Cauchy data at infinity, one has a lower bound T-epsilon greater than or equal to cexp(c epsilon (-u)) (mu = 2/3 if d = 2, mu = 1 if d greater than or equal to 3) when the nonlinearity satisfies a convenient "null condition".

Abstract:For any subcritical index of regularity s > 3/2, we prove the almost global well posedness for the 2-dimensional semilinear wave equation with the cubic nonlinearity in the derivatives, when the initial data are small in the Sobolev space H s × H s−1 with certain angular regularity. The lifespan is known to be sharp in general. The main new ingredient in the proof is an endpoint version of the generalized Strichartz estimates in the space . In the last section, we also consider the general semilinear wave equations with the spatial dimension n ≥ 2 and the order of nonlinearity p ≥ 3.

Abstract:We study the Calogero–Moser derivative nonlinear Schrödinger NLS equation i∂tu+∂xxu+(D+|D|)(|u|2)u=0 posed on the Hardy–Sobolev space H+s(R) with suitable s>0 . By using a Lax pair structure for this L2 ‐critical equation, we prove global well‐posedness for s≥1 and initial data with sub‐critical or critical L2 ‐mass ∥u0∥L22≤2π . Moreover, we prove uniqueness of ground states and also classify all traveling solitary waves. Finally, we study in detail the class of multi‐soliton solutions u(t) and we prove that they exhibit energy cascades in the following strong sense such that ∥u(t)∥Hs∼s|t|2s as t→±∞ for every s>0 .

Abstract:Let $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N$ ($N\geq 3$) be a bounded $C^2$ domain and $\Sigma\subset\partial\Omega$ be a compact $C^2$ submanifold of dimension $k$. Denote the distance from $\Sigma$ by $d_\Sigma$. In this paper, we study positive solutions of the equation $(*)\, -\Delta u -\mu u/d_\Sigma^2 = g(u,|\nabla u|)$ in $\Omega$, where $\mu\leq \big( \frac{N-k}{2} \big)^2$ and the source term $g:\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}_+ \rightarrow \mathbb{R}_+$ is continuous and non-decreasing in its arguments with $g(0,0)=0$. In particular, we prove the existence of solutions of $(*)$ with boundary measure data $u=\nu$ in two main cases, provided that the total mass of $\nu$ is small. In the first case $g$ satisfies some subcriticality conditions that always ensure the existence of solutions. In the second case we examine power type nonlinearity $g(u,|\nabla u|) = |u|^p|\nabla u|^q$, where the problem may not possess a solution for exponents in the supercritical range. Nevertheless we obtain criteria for existence under the assumption that $\nu$ is absolutely continuous with respect to some appropriate capacity or the Bessel capacity of $\Sigma$, or under other equivalent conditions.

On an intercritical log-modified nonlinear Schrodinger equation in two spatial dimensions

Abstract:We consider a dispersive equation of Schr{ö}dinger type with a non-linearity slightly larger than cubic by a logarithmic factor. This equation is supposed to be an effective model for stable two dimensional quantum droplets with LHY correction. Mathematically, it is seen to be mass supercritical and energy subcritical with a sign-indefinite nonlinearity. For the corresponding initial value problem, we prove global in-time existence of strong solutions in the energy space. Furthermore, we prove the existence and uniqueness (up to symmetries) of nonlinear ground states and the orbital stability of the set of energy minimizers. We also show that for the corresponding model in 1D a stronger stability result is available.

Abstract:We consider time-dependent (linear and nonlinear) Schrödinger equations in a semiclassical scaling. These equations form a canonical class of (nonlinear) dispersive models whose solutions exhibit high-frequency oscillations. The design of efficient numerical methods which produce an accurate approximation of the solutions, or at least of the associated physical observables, is a formidable mathematical challenge. In this article we shall review the basic analytical methods for dealing with such equations, including WKB asymptotics, Wigner measure techniques and Gaussian beams. Moreover, we shall give an overview of the current state of the art of numerical methods (most of which are based on the described analytical techniques) for the Schrödinger equation in the semiclassical regime.

Abstract:We consider the linear Schrödinger equation under periodic boundary condition, driven by a random force and damped by a quasilinear damping: $$ \frac{d}{dt}u+i\big(-\Delta+V(x)\big) u=\nu \Big(\Delta u-\gr |u|^{2p}u-i\gi |u|^{2q}u \Big) +\sqrt\nu\, \eta(t,x).\qquad (*) $$ The force $\eta$ is white in time and smooth in $x$. We are concerned with the limiting, as $\nu\to0$, behaviour of its solutions on long time-intervals $0\le t\le\nu^{-1}T$, and with behaviour of these solutions under the double limit $t\to\infty$ and $\nu\to0$. We show that these two limiting behaviours may be described in terms of solutions for the {\it system of effective equations for $(*)$} which is a well posed semilinear stochastic heat equation with a non-local nonlinearity and a smooth additive noise, written in Fourier coefficients. The effective equations do not depend on the Hamiltonian part of the perturbation $-i\gi|u|^{2q}u$ (but depend on the dissipative part $-\gr|u|^{2p}u$). If $p$ is an integer, they may be written explicitly.

Abstract:This note studies the inhomogeneous fourth-order Schrödinger equation Indeed, the local existence of solutions is established in some Sobolev critical spaces . In particular, one considers the mass-critical regime and the energy-critical one . For more efficient way to handle the spatially decaying factor in the nonlinearity, we approach to the matter in a weighted Lebesgue space which seems to be more suitable to perform a finer analysis for this problem. In fact, this way enables to investigate the critical regime which seems to be still an open problem. The method used to prove the existence of energy subcritical local solutions consists on dividing the integrals on the unit ball of and its complementary and use the fact that and , for . This method is no more sufficient to investigate the critical regime. The proof combines a standard fixed point argument with some Strichartz estimates in weighted Lebesgue spaces. This follows the method developed recently (Kim et al. in J Differ Equ 280:179–202, 2021). In a paper in progress, the authors investigate the scattering of global solutions versus the finite time blow-up of nonglobal solutions.

On coupled non-linear Schrödinger systems with singular source term

Abstract:This work studies a coupled non-linear Schrödinger system with a singular source term. First, we investigate the question of the local existence of solutions. Second, one proves the existence of global solutions which scatter in some Sobolev spaces. Finally, one establishes the existence of non-global solutions. The main difficulty here is to overcome the regularity problem in the non-linearity. Indeed, because of the singularity of the source term, the classical contraction method in the energy space fails in such a regime. So, this paper is to fill such a gap in the literature. The argument follows ideas in T. Cazenave and I. Naumkin ( Comm. Contemp. Math. , 19 (2017), 1650038). This consists to remark that the singularity problem is only near the origin. So, one needs to impose that the solution stays away from zero. This is not trivial, since there is no maximum principle for the Schrödinger equation. The existence of global solutions which scatter follows with the pseudo-conformal transformation via the existence of local solutions. Finally, the existence of non-global solutions follows with the classical variance method.

Finite energy well-posedness for nonlinear Schrödinger equations with non-vanishing conditions at infinity

Abstract:Relevant physical phenomena are described by nonlinear Schrödinger equations with non-vanishing conditions at infinity. This paper investigates the respective 2D and 3D Cauchy problems. Local well-posedness in the energy space for energy-subcritical nonlinearities, merely satisfying Kato-type assumptions, is proven, providing the analogue of the well-established local $H^1$-theory for solutions vanishing at infinity. The critical nonlinearity will be simply a byproduct of our analysis and the existing literature. Under an assumption that prevents the onset of a Benjamin-Feir type instability, global well-posedness in the energy space is proven for a) non-negative Hamiltonians, b) sign-indefinite Hamiltonians under additional assumptions on the zeros of the nonlinearity, c) generic nonlinearities and small initial data. The cases b) and c) only concern 3D.

Abstract:We study Schrödinger–Newton equations with general power nonlinearity on the lattice Zd . After the proof of well-posedness of the Cauchy problem, our interest is focused on the existence of stable standing (stationary) solutions. Employing variational methods we prove the existence of a ground state solution solving the associated stationary system. Orbital stability as well as exponential localization of the ground state is verified. Finally, we discuss the existence of excitation thresholds for ground state solutions in dependence of the conserved mass ( l2 -norm).
