The effect of Building Blocks early intervention program in improvement of developmental ability in preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of Building Blocks early intervention program in improvement of developmental ability and autistic symptom decrease in preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Method and Materials: 16 children, aged 35–42 months, with a clinical diagnosis of ASD were participated in this approach. The diagnostic criteria have evolved based on DSM-IV by psychiatric’s view. They fell into two groups of experiment and control. NEWSHA developmental scale was used to identify children’s cognitive, social, speech and language level in terms of pre-test and post-test. Experiment group are treated based on Building Blocks early intervention program in a period of 16 months to 2 years. Results: comparing assessment with ANCOVA in groups of experiment and control show that each of children in experiment group have significent progress in every developmental abilities, autistic signs are decreased and come to normal developmental level. Conclusion: Building Blocks early intervention program has significent effects in decreasing autistic signs and improve developmental abilities
