Abstract:Skripsi ini membahas tentang strategi penerjemahan pada ujaran para tokoh yang digunakan dalam film berbahasa Inggris yang diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia dalam bentuk subtitle. Dengan studi ini, penulis ingin mengetahui apa saja dan bagaimana pengaplikasian strategi penerjemahan pada subtitle film serta teknik penerjemahan yang diterapkan pada kata-kata ataupun phrasa-phrasa tertentu yang terdapat di dalam ujaran tokoh dalam film ini. Dalam pengumpulan data, penulis menggunakan teknik pengamatan dan teknik catat. Ujaran-ujaran para tokoh dicatat dan ditampilkan dalam bentuk tabel. Analisis data menggunakan strategi penerjemahan subtitle yang diajukan oleh Henrik Gottlieb, yang terdiri dari strategi expansion, paraphrase, transfer, imitation, transcription, dislocation, condensation, decimation, deletion dan resignation. Selain itu, untuk kata-kata dan phrasa-phrasa tertentu yang tidak diterjemahkan secara literal oleh penerjemah akan dianalisa menggunakan teknik penerjemahan oleh Vinay dan Darbelnet yang terdiri dari borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence dan adaptation. Data yang dianalisa diambil dari ujaran-ujaran para tokoh pada film animasi Zootopia dalam bentuk DVD. Pada analisis data, penulis menjelaskan strategi serta teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan subtitle film, klasifikasi serta asumsi mengapa strategi dan teknik tersebut digunakan. Data analisis berjumlah 80 ujaran para tokoh karakter film Zootopia. Dari hasil analisis ditemukan bahwa penerjemah hanya menggunakan 8 dari 10 jenis strategi penerjemahan yang diajukan oleh Henrik Gottlieb. Pada sebuah ujaran, penerjemah bisa menerapkan lebih dari satu strategi penerjemahan. Bukan hanya itu, penerjemah juga hanya menggunakan 6 dari 7 teknik penerjemahan yang diajukan oleh Vinay dan Darbelnet. Abstract:Subtitling strategies are needed to translate the subtitles of Toy Story 4 movie to give information about the story to the target language viewer. The research aimed to identify the subtitling strategies and analyze which strategies frequently occurred in the Indonesian subtitle of Toy Story 4. The data were taken directly from the English and Indonesian subtitle text of Toy Story 4. This study used a qualitative approach to describe the results of the analysis of subtitling strategies. In gathering the data, the writer used several steps. They are watching, transcribing, identifying, classifying, and reporting. After evaluating the data, the writer presented the finding using the qualitative method. The collected data were transferred to a table and analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The finding of this research was 1337 data. The procedure of analyzing data was done by arranging side by side the original dialogue and subtitle versions in the table. The findings of the strategy analysis consist of translation by paraphrase (10.70%), translation by using the transfer (44.05%), translation by using transcription (1.94%), translation by using dislocation (7.78%), translation by imitation (21.02%), moreover translation by condensation (5.98%), translation by decimation (1.12%), in addition, translation by using deletion (3,74%) and translation by using resignation (3.66%). Based on the result of each strategy, it was found that translation by using transfer was the most used in this study, and decimation was the least used in this study. Abstract:Background: Dubbing is an interesting translation for movie viewers because viewers do not need to be constrained by reading the subtitling on the monitor. However, with all its limitations dubbing is a challenge for a translator. Frozen: Party is over is an intriguing film to investigate. Methodology: All utterances of the characters in the film are becoming the research data. The numbers of data were 62 for words, phrases and sentences and analyzed using Molina & Albir's translation theory. The interactive model of Miles and Huberman analyzed all the data. Findings: The result of the research is that the translation techniques used by the translator were modulation, established equivalent and literal. The most dominant technique used by the translator was literal. This is because children consume the film, so most of the sentences are simple sentences. Conclusion: The translation techniques used by the translator were modulation, established equivalent and literal. Originality: This research focused on the dubbing translation technique for the animated film Frozen: Party is over. In comparison, other research with the same object discussed topics such as deixis, language styles, illocutionary act and subtitling.

Abstract:This study aims to identify and analyze translation techniques and translation ideology used by translators in translating subtitle texts in the film Olaf's Frozen adventure. In this study using descriptive qualitative research with data in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences containing translation techniques in the subtitle text of the film Olaf's Frozen Adventure. The data collection technique in this study was to use documents and archives, by watching the film Olaf's Frozen Adventure and reading the available subtitles in both the source language and the target language and transcribing. In analyzing the data the steps taken by the researcher are watching and reading the subtitle text of the film Olaf's Frozen Adventure, analyzing translation techniques and translation ideology, and finally drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the analysis, there are 12 translation techniques used by translators in translating the subtitles of the film Olaf's Frozen Adventure from 133 data. Based on the frequency of use of these techniques are: reduction technique 17, borrowing 9, literal translation 27, equivalent 24, calculus 14, transposition 11, amplification 5, particulation 2, linguistic compression 17, modulation 5, adaptation 1, and generalization 1. applied by translators in translating the subtitles of the film Olaf's Frozen Adventure is the ideology of domestication.

Abstract:The purpose of this research is to analyze the translation strategy at the word level used in the translation of the song in the animated movie "Let it go" from English into Bahasa Indonesia. The frequency with which each translation strategy is measured. The translation strategy for addressing disparate words at Word level proposed by Baker (1992) is applied as a framework for data analysis. The data for this study is the lyrics of the original song "Let it go" sung by Idina Menzel in the original movie produced by Walt Disney "Frozen" with a translation version of Indonesian. The result shows that the seven strategies proposed by Baker (1992), identified as used in this study. Translation strategiesare translated by disappearances, translated by paraphrasing using unrelated words, and translations by cultural substitution.

Abstract:This article discusses subtitling strategies taken by Lebah Ganteng in the Indonesian subtitle of the movie entitled The Imitation Game. The aims of this research were to describe how various subtitling strategies are applied in giving the subtitles to the movie from English into Indonesian and to find out the distribution of the strategies used from the most frequent to the least. This research applied a descriptive-qualitative method. The data were analyzed based on Gottlieb’s subtitling strategies theory. The finding shows that there are eight of the total ten subtitling strategies are applied. Transfer takes 24% of the total, followed by deletion (23%), paraphrase (17%), imitation (11%), condensation (9%), expansion (9%), decimation (6%), and transcription (1%). Two strategies left unapplied are dislocation and resignation. From the comparison, It can be concluded that transfer is the dominant strategy used in the subtitling process of the movie.

Abstract:Several studies have compared translation strategies to analyze subtitles and dubbing in movies, but few have compared the differences between the two mediums. This study compared the translation strategies used in movie subtitles and dubbing. Baker's (2018) translation strategies are used to analyze the Disney+ subtitle and dubbing of The Greatest Showman. Baker (2018) identifies 12 translation strategies used in the subtitle and dubbing: general word, more neutral/less expressive word, cultural substitution, loan word and explanation, paraphrase using related words, paraphrase using unrelated words, omission, idiom of similar meaning and form, idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, paraphrase, omission of a play on idiom, omission of entire idiom. One strategy, borrowing the source language idiom, employed by the dubbing is not found in the subtitle and one strategy, illustration, is not used in both. The fact that using the same strategy does not produce the same translation result shows that there are infinite interpretations. Keywords: translation strategies, subtitle, dubbing

Abstract:Translation is the process of delivering messages from the source language into the target language so that it can be reached by the reader. Translator activities also occur in films. Film is an audiovisual media that is very popular with the public. In this study, the author focuses more on the translation of the subtitles in the Frozen II film. This study aims to describe the technique of translating imperative sentences with subtitles in the Frozen II film and to describe the most dominant translation techniques in the subtitles of the Frozen II film. This study uses qualitative methods and data collection. This study uses 18 translation techniques belonging to Molina Dan Albir (2002). The results showed the dominance of the use of literal techniques in imperative sentence subtitles as much as 39 data or 63.93%. In future research, it is hoped that there will be further research with a wider scope .

Abstract:The existences of subtitling (a part of audiovisual translation) in assisting people from other countries to enjoy movies have been new breakthroughs yet challenges to film industries. Nowadays, many Indonesian movies present the richness of local languages such as Javanese language, Minangkabau language, Batak language, and other local languages accompanied by English subtitles, so the movies can be watched not only by Indonesian audiences, but also viewers from other countries. One of the movies is Buya Hamka Vol.1 movie. This study aims to reveal the subtitling strategies used in Buya Hamka Vol.1 movie and its implication to teaching translation. This was a qualitative study with content analysis design. The data were the excerpts of conversations using Minangkabaunese (source language) compared to the correspond English (target language) subtitle provided by Netflix, and were analysed by using subtitling strategies theory by Gottlieb. The result showed that transfer is the most frequently strategy found in the study because of the common word order pattern employed in Minangkabaunese and English.

Abstract:Subtitling strategies used by subtitlers in translating words, phrases, and speaker’s utterances in the audiovisual field. The aim of this study was to analyze the types of subtitling strategies used by Indah Asmigianti on OmeTV. It adopted a descriptive qualitative method. The subject of the study was the video of Indah Asmigianti taken on YouTube in January 2023, complete with subtitles. The focus was on the conversation between Indah Asmigianti and strangers. The subtitling strategies were categorized according to Gottlieb's theory (1992). The result revealed eight types of subtitling strategies used, namely: paraphrase (33.2%), transfer (22.1%), condensation (11%), expansion (8%), deletion (5.3%), imitation (5%), resignation (4.2%), and decimation (3.2%). Transcription and dislocation strategies were not found in this research. The most frequently used strategy was paraphrase. This research contributes to understanding the complexity of subtitling as a form of cultural translation.

Abstract:The object of research: This study is aimed to categorize the types of translation techniques and the most prevalent translation techniques used in movie subtitles, because the phenomenon that frequently occurs shows that it has a tendency to use subtitles regardless of their disadvantages, so the translator requires appropriate translation techniques in order to transfer the message clearly from the source language into the target language Investigated problem: The recent phenomenon in Indonesia shows that it has the tendency on using the subtitle regardless its drawback. As it is known, there is still the use of subtitles that are not of good quality and there is also the use of subtitles whose quality is much better based on the use appropriate translation techniques. Methodology: To answer the research question, a descriptive qualitative research strategy was utilized, as well as content analysis, which focuses on the analysis of the sorts of translation approaches proposed by Molina and Albir. The researchers used movie and documentation as the research instrument. The data source of this research was the movie script “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on The Run” The area of practical use of the research results: As the result of this research, the researchers found 14 types of translation techniques. The most dominant of translation techniques is literal translation 67 data (33.5 %), followed by modulation 55 data (27.5 %), generalization 26 data (13 %), linguistic amplification 11 data (5.5 %), established equivalence 9 data (4.5 %), linguistic compression 8 data (4 %), transposition 7 data (3.5 %), compensation 5 data (2.5 %), calque and reduction 3 data for each other (1.5 %), borrowing and discursive creation 2 data for each other (1 %), adaptation and description 1 data for each other (0.5 %). Involving the total data are 200 data Innovative technological product: The result of this research as the reflection and references for linguists and scientist not only to the quality of machine translation such as google translate, and so on but also to the use of good translation in the subtitle in the future. Scope of the innovative technological product: The scope lies on the subtitle product produced by translator. The translator needs to know the target (audience) and the translation must meet the criteria and the target. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the translation techniques used in the translation of subtitle are literal translation and modulation. The result shows that literal translation and modulation are the main contributors on the translation techniques in order to accurately translate it

Abstract:Chinese songs and movies have been popular in Indonesia and have been favored by Indonesians. Chinese movies, especially action movies, are very popular within Indonesians. There are still very few people who master Chinese in Indonesia, so Indonesian people are very rely on Indonesian subtitles when watching Chinese movies. The purpose of this study is to understand the translation strategies used in the subtitle and the problems that exist. This study analyzes the subtitle translation of main characters’ dialogue of the movies "Brotherhood of Blades", "Rise of the Legend", "The Assassin", "Bloody Destiny", "The Monkey King 2" and "My Beloved Bodyguard". According to the analysis, the most commonly used film subtitle translation strategy is paraphrase. The reason why paraphrase strategy is the most commonly used strategy is because the research object of this study (the dialogue of action films) mostly contains Chinese history, culture, and customs, so the translator must consider the most appropriate sentence to translate into the target language in order to let the meaning remain. In addition, the subtitle translation also needs to pay attention to word selection, conjunctive words, word order, polysemous meaning items, positive and negative form, plot and scene, cultural elements.

Abstract:Subtitling refers to the process of inserting into audio-visual media in order present the utterance which being spoken. Subtitles contain the speaker's language or English in order to be understood by the audience. It usually presented in television shows, movies or YouTube videos. This study was focused to analyze the subtitling strategies used in Zootopia Movie. The aims of the study were focused to find the types of subtitling strategies and the most frequent and least frequent subtitling strategies that can be found in the subtitles of Zootopia movie. The data source was taken from the English and Indonesian subtitles of Zootopia Movie. The data was collected through the observation method by watching and collecting the subtitles from the Zootopia Movie. A qualitative method was used in this study. The result showed that there were 10 out of 10 subtitling strategies that can be found which consist of 213 total of data such as 19 expansion (8.92%), 21 paraphrase (9.85%), 65 transfer (30.51%), 22 imitation (10.32%), 6 transcription (2.81%), 19 dislocation (8.92%), 16 condensation (7.51%), 15 decimation (7.04%), 27 deletion (12.67%) and 3 resignation (1.40%). It can be concluded that transfer was the most frequent subtitling strategy that can be found which has 65 (30.51%) data in total. On contrary, the resignation was the least frequent strategy that can be found which has 3 (1.40%) data in total.

Abstract:This research entitles “Translation Techniques of assertive speech acts in Frozen II movies subtitles”. This research aims to determine the types of assertive speech acts and the types of translation techniques for this film. Researcher used Yule theory (1996) in analyzing speech and the theory of translation techniques by Molina and Albir (2002). This research uses qualitative methods in analyzing data. Researcher found 34 data regarding assertive speech acts. The results of this research are 6 types of directive speech acts found in the speech of this film. This research also found nine types of translation techniques used by translator to translate utterance that contains assertive speech acts. The results of data analysis show that the dominant type of translation technique used by translators in translating assertive speech acts is the establish equivalent with 9 data (26%).

Abstract:A mistake in translating a single word may cause thousands of deaths. An unimaginable fact that mistranslation cost 80.000 lives in Japan in August 1945 proves that translating a text should be taken into consideration and done carefully. Translating a source language (SL) into a target language (TL) is problematic and not as simple as only transposing SL into TL because this activity closely relates to different cultures. Therefore, this study is aimed at analyzing the translation techniques in the English subtitle of the movie “Ketika Cinta Bertasbih 1”. This qualitative study focuses on Molina and Albir’s translation techniques used in the English movie subtitle. The primary data were collected from the dialogs and the English subtitle and selected based on the translation problems. Furthermore, the data were analyzed and interpreted descriptively to identify and explain why and how the translation techniques are used in the English subtitle. This study found that five translation techniques were used to translate the dialogs in bahasa Indonesia (SL) into English subtitle (TL). In the subtitle, this study found the use of adaptation (10 times), transposition (9 times), borrowing (7 times), generalization (3 times) and compensation (once). Those techniques were applied to solve problems in translation, such as cultural differences, in equivalence, untranslatability, and grammatical differences. This study concludes that the techniques proposed by Molina and Albir in 2002 have been a great contribution in the field of translation. The cultural problems which lead to in equivalence and untranslatability, as well as grammatical differences are no longer problematic to translators.
Translation Procedure of English to Indonesian Subtitle 'English Vinglish' Movie

Abstract:The objectives of this research are to find the types and the most dominant type of translation procedures of English into Indonesian Subtitle in “English Vinglish” Movie. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of this study are the words, clauses, and sentences in the subtitle movie both English and Indonesian. Data source is taken from “English Vinglish” Movie. The data collection procedure in this research is document analysis. From the result, it shows that the translation procedures used in subtitle English Vinglish movie consist of direct translation and oblique translation. In direct translation, it consists of literal translation as 148 data or 34.89%, borrowing as 82 data or 20.39 %, and calque as 0 data or 0 %. While, in oblique translation consist of transposition as 76 data or 18.67 %, equivalence as 62 data or 15.23 %, modulation as 32 data or 7.86 %, and adaptation as 6 data or 1.47 %. The most dominant type of translation procedures of English into Indonesian Subtitle in “English Vinglish” Movie is in direct translation, especially in literal translation. Abstract:Dubbing translation research is one of the translation studies in Audio Visual Translation (AVT) that has not been widely discussed, especially with dubbing which is carried out by fans. In this research, the researcher will examine the dubbing done by fans in translating short clips from western films, they are divided into two groups; fundubbing and fandubbing. The fundubing are Fathur Bysmi and Fluxcup, while fandubbing are Raihan Hakim98 and Ky Ameron. Fathur Bysmi dubbed movie clip from Spiderman movie, while Fluxcup dubbed one of Batman TV series entitled Batman the Batus. Raihan Hakim98 dubbed video clip from Resident Evil III game, while Ky Ameron dubbed a video clip from the movie entiled Frozen. Based on findings, it can be seen that the two Fundubbing dubbers are poor in translation quality, because they more focused on having fun and not on meaning. On the other hand the Fandubbing dubbers are better at both of dubbing and translation quality. Both of fundubbing and fandubbing are able to maintain synchronization between the voice and lips, as well as synchronization in gestures or kinetic.

Abstract:The article discusses translation strategies of Audiovisual Translation engaged with the movie on Netflix. The research concentrates on translation strategies involved in the AVT subtitle case of an adventure mystery genre in the Enola Holmes Netflix movie to know the relation of translation strategies with AVT concept. This is an audiovisual translation research in a qualitative descriptive, along with data collecting of English and Indonesian subtitles of Enola Holmes Netflix movie. From the findings, it found nine strategies applied in translating the subtitle of Enola Holmes movie. The result reveals strategies found in translating the subtitle text into Indonesian shows the order from the dominant to the least which are condensation (27%), transfer (25%), paraphrase (24%), deletion (13%), expansion (5%), imitation (5%), resignation (1%), decimation (1%), and transcription (0%). Furthermore, it found two situations of the speech acts equivalency in the English into Indonesian subtitle text are equivalence (98%) and not equivalence (2%). Additionally, all of the translation strategies are helpful to produce the efficient subtitles and deliver the original message properly which also does not cross the line of the rules in AVT.

Abstract:The study of pronoun translation in subtitle is crucial to give insight for subtitler for maintaining the producing accurate, respectful, and culturally sensitive translations, ensuring effective communication across different languages and cultures. This research aims to identify pronoun translation in the Indonesian-English movie subtitle of Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamer) movie. This study was designed as qualitative research, with content analysis as a method of collecting the data. The analysis focused on how the pronoun in the subtitle translated from SL to TL, what are the cultural reasons of using pronoun and what are strategies used by the translator with considering grammatical and socio-cultural aspects in both the Source Language (SL) and Target Language (TL). The findings reveal three categories of pronoun translation occur in subtitle, they are pronoun to pronoun, pronoun to reference, and pronoun to omission. A total of 680 pronouns were translated, with 521 (77%) translated as pronoun to pronoun, 152 (22%) as a pronoun to omission, and 7 (1%) as a pronoun to reference. These results underscore the diverse background factors influencing why pronouns are translated, including socio-cultural and grammatical considerations. There are several subtiling strategies used by translators to translate the sentences, including genralization, direct translation, explicitation, and subtiution. These strategiess are employed to ensure fidelity to the original meaning while adapting to linguistic and cultural nuances in the target language.

Abstract:Abstract: This study investigated the intricate process of translating thoughts and ideas between different languages, which goes beyond mere linguistic proficiency. Successful translation requires a deep comprehension of cultural nuances in both the source and target languages, as well as a thorough understanding of the text and the intended audience. The aim is to achieve accurate and effective translations while avoiding literal interpretations, potential misunderstandings, and inaccuracies. The focus of this study is the specific translation techniques employed in subtitling the renowned film "Avatar." To conduct this research, a qualitative approach using descriptive methods is adopted, utilizing dialogue and subtitles from the movie as the primary data source. The analysis involves the identification of translation techniques based on Newmark's framework (1988) and references Larson's classification of translation types (1945). Through this study, a comprehensive exploration of the diverse translation techniques used in subtitling "Avatar" is undertaken. The findings emphasize the significance of cultural knowledge in achieving successful translations. It is encouraged that future research delves into other films to gain a broader understanding of subtitle translation, encompassing various translation methods, procedures, and other pertinent aspects of translation.
