Abstract:Recent phylogenetic analyses have revealed that Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium and C. vestitum var. vestitum were placed in different clades based on their chloroplast genomes and nuclear LFAFY gene sequences. Accordingly, based on previous morphological analysis, molecular phylogenetic results, fieldwork, and herbarium studies, Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium should be raised to the species level. Considering the condition of the material found and Articles 6.9, 6.11, 41.2, 58.1 of the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants (Shenzhen Code) that is currently in force, Chrysanthemum dabieshanense Z.X.Fu, A.G.Zhen, & Y.P.Ma, nom. nov. is proposed as the new name for Chrysanthemum vestitum var. latifolium J.Zhou & Jun Y.Chen. The detailed emended description, distribution map, insights into its habitat, and an updated comparative morphological study are presented in this study.

Abstract:A new species of Chlorophytum is described and illustrated in this article. Morphological, root anatomical, pollen and molecular features were compared with its allied species C. laxum R.Br. which has apiculate anther, lanceolate bract, 16–18 nerved flat leaf and ellipsoid pollen with contrast to obtuse anther, ovate bract, 11–13 nerved conduplicate leaf and ovoid pollen. The molecular features complement the differences.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a revision of the Rhododenron taipaoense complex, including R. taipaoense and eight other named species, based on literature survey, field collections and observations, inspection of herbarium specimens, statistical analysis of morphological characters, and SEM observation of seed shape and testa. We evaluated all characters that have previously been used to diagnose these species: indumentum of young shoots and abaxial surfaces of leaves; filament dimensions; style base; leaf color, size, and apex shape; flower number per inflorescence; corolla length; and length of the stamen and pistil. Cluster analysis of 146 individuals showed that individuals from different populations are interdigitated, irrespective of traditional taxonomic limits. Analysis of morphological data using principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) likewise shows a continual gradation between populations, rather than disjunctures between named species. Consequently, only one species is recognized in the present paper, and R. apricum, R. falcinellum (R. apricum var. falcinellum), R. florulentum, R. hepticum, R. piceum, R. rufulum, R. spadiceum, and R. rufoindumentum (nom. nud.) are all reduced to synonyms of R. taipaoense.

Abstract:A reclassification of Cyanidium chilense under the new genus Cavernulicola was recently proposed together with a new family (Cavernulicolaceae) and a new order (Cavernulicolales). Unfortunately, due to an error in the required citation of the basionym, the name "Cavernulicola chilensis" was invalid and cannot be accepted as the generitype of Cavernulicola. This means that Cavernulicola, Cavernulicolaceae, and Cavernulicolales are likewise invalid names under the provisions of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN, Shenzhen Code). In this contribution, each of these names is validated.

Abstract:In this paper, Carex chungii and other five names at species rank, plus one variety and one form, all from of C. sect. Mitratae, were revised. They constitute a group of morphologically very similar taxa, difficult to tell apart. Our study was based on literature survey, fieldwork, herbarium specimens, statistical analysis of morphological characters and SEM observations of achenes and perigynia. Analysis of morphological data of 94 individuals from eleven populations using principal component analysis (PCA) revealed five clusters, which we consequently considered to correspond to five species. The achenes of Carex genkaiensis were strikingly different from all the other species regarding achene apex contracted into a 0.2-0.5 mm long neck-like appendage (vs. into a discoid-annulate style-base), as well as its perigynium indumentum (pubescent vs. sparsely pubescent). Carex anhuiensis, C. xuanchengensis and C. truncatirostris f. erostris are all synonymized to C. truncatirostris. The previously recognized Carex kamagariensis from Japan is synonymized to C. chungii. Carex chungii var. rigida is recognized as specific rank and the new name C. nanpingensis is proposed. Our study is the first effort to address the taxonomy of this complicate group as a whole in its entire range.

Abstract:We show that the two continental African species previously ascribed to the genus Anacolosa , differ in so many architectural, floral and vegetative characters from the remaining species of the genus (which occur from Madagascar to the western Pacific, including the type) that they clearly represent a separate genus. The African genus represented by these two species is unique within the Olacaceae s.l. (excluding Erythropalaceae) in being a climber (vs shrubs or trees in Anacolosa sensu stricto). Climbing in the two African species is achieved by perennial hook-like structures formed by a combination of five separate traits each of which is unknown elsewhere in the Olacaceae s.l. We formally delimit, describe and name this new African genus as Keita . Placement is tentatively in Aptandraceae but confirmation by molecular studies is required. We describe a new species from Guinea as Keita deniseae sp. nov and transfer the Central African (Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Republic of Congo & Gabon) species from Anacolosa to the new genus as Keita uncifera comb. nov. Keita deniseae is assessed using the IUCN (2012) criteria as Endangered due to the threat of clearance or degradation of forest habitat for mining and agriculture, while K. uncifera is assessed as Least Concern in view of its large range, number of locations and low levels of threat. We review the discovery of Keita deniseae in the light of other recent discoveries of new taxa in both Simandou and the Republic of Guinea.

Abstract:The genus Coleus is revised for DR. Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, based on herbarium taxonomy. Ninety-five taxa are reported (89 species, 1 subspecies, 5 varieties). Fifteen new species and one new variety are described ( Coleus duvigneaudii , C. esculentus var. kolweziensis , C. hildei , C. kaminaensis , C. kundelunguensis , C. linarioides , C. lisowskii , C. marunguensis , C. minusculus , C. mitwabaensis , C. mystax , C. pengbelensis , C. piscatorum , C. pseudoschizophyllus , C. ruziziensis and C. zigzag ). Fourteen species are newly recorded in DR. Congo and two species are newly recorded in Burundi. Four new combinations are made ( Coleus betonicifolius var. kasomenensis , C. esculentus var. densus , C. esculentus var. primulinus and C. parvifolius ). Ten names are lectotypified. One name is neotypified. Thirteen new synonyms are reported. Particular attention is paid to the Coleus bojeri complex. Three names are resurrected to accommodate the extensive variation patterns in Central Africa ( C. chevalieri , C. collinus and C. heterotrichus ); their distribution in Africa is outlined and the circumscription of C. bojeri is amended accordingly. Fifteen taxa are endemic to the study region. A determination key is provided.

Abstract:Cynanchum pingtaoi S.Jin Zeng, G.D.Tang & Miao Liao, sp. nov. ( Apocynaceae ) from Yunnan Province, China, is described and illustrated based on morphological and molecular evidence. Its deeply cordate to reniform leaves and campanulate, large flowers show that it is a member of former Raphistemma Wall., which has been included in Cynanchum L.. It is different from all former Raphistemma species by the broadly ovate corolla lobes, purple-red corolla and connivent corona tip slightly exceeding the corolla throat. Meanwhile, Cynanchum longhushanense G.D.Tang & Miao Liao, nom. nov. is proposed as replacement name for Raphistemma brevipedunculatum Y.Wan, which was considered a synonym of Cynanchum hooperianum (Blume) Liede & Khanum but is here reinstated as a distinct species because of significant morphological differences.

Abstract:Clusia reginae (Clusiaceae) is described using an integrative taxonomy approach. Field observations, discriminant analyses of morphological characters and phylogenetic inference based on molecular data led to the recognition of a new species of tree. This new taxon is distinct for having broadly obovate leaves, white petals, bright yellow flower resin and relatively large fruits. Clusia reginae is known from the foothills and valleys of the Venezuelan Andes and is here assessed using IUCN criteria as Vulnerable.

Abstract:Based on a literature survey and a field trip with specimen examination, statistical analysis including principal components analysis (PCA) on morphological characters have been carried out on Rhododendron mariae and related taxa. Cluster analysis and PCA showed three independent groups, which corresponded to three species except R. loniceriflorum. As a consequence, nine taxa are reduced to synonyms of R. mariae, and two new combinations, viz R. mariae subsp. microphyton, and R. mariae subsp. flumineum are made. Rhododendron microphyton var. trichanthum is reduced to a synonym of R. mariae subsp. microphyton, and R. malipoense to a synonym of R. mariae subsp. flumineum. Three names are synonymized and a new combination, viz R. chryocalyx subsp. meridionale, is proposed within R. chryocalyx. The third entity, R. naamkwanense, has got two new synonyms. Rhododendron loniceriflorum, with whitish pubescence on the inner corolla surface, is recognized as the fourth distinct species. Each entity is illustrated with line drawings for identification.

Abstract:Three new Fusarium species, F.convolutans , F.fredkrugeri , and F.transvaalense (Ascomycota, Hypocreales, Nectriaceae) are described from soils collected in a catena landscape on a research supersite in the Kruger National Park, South Africa. The new taxa, isolated from the rhizosphere of three African herbaceous plants, Kyphocarpaangustifolia , Melhaniaacuminata , and Sidacordifolia , are described and illustrated by means of morphological and multilocus molecular analyses based on sequences from five DNA loci (CAL, EF-1 α, RPB1, RPB2 and TUB). According to phylogenetic inference based on Maximum-likelihood and Bayesian approaches, the newly discovered species are distributed in the Fusariumbuharicum , F.fujikuroi , and F.sambucinum species complexes.

Abstract:Monstera is the taxonomically least understood genus in the Araceae family in Mesoamerica. Identification is further complicated by drastic phenotypic changes from juvenile to adult stages and the precocious flowering of some species. The reliability of traditional taxonomic characters is uncertain, as they have been primarily studied in dry herbarium specimens, with their variability in natural populations and living plants remaining largely unknown. To enhance the taxonomy of Monstera, a comprehensive revision of Central America species was conducted. This involved: (1) an exhaustive literature review; (2) examining 4500 specimens from different herbaria, including most type specimens; (3) extensive fieldwork to document plant morphology at different developmental stages through photography and herbarium preparation; and (4) circumscribing species using the gathered data. This study recognizes 52 native species in Central America. Three species are newly described here M. coclensis, M. harrisoneorum, and M. ngabensis, and one is new record for Panama. For each species, detailed morphological descriptions, habitat information, phenology, conservation status, examined specimen lists, taxonomic and nomenclatural comments, and photographs of key morphological traits are provided.

Abstract:Following the valid publication in 1894 of the name Asplenium [‘Asplenum’] anisophyllum Kunze (1836: 511) var. aequilaterale Hieronymus in Engler (1894: 45) in the fern family Aspleniaceae for an East African taxon, and the further valid publication of this varietal name in Engler’s Die Pflanzenwelt Ost-Afrikas und der Nachbargebiete, Deutsch-Ost-Afrika the following year (Hieronymus 1895: 82), as Asplenium [again as ‘Asplenum’] anisophyllum Kunze (1836: 511) var. aequilaterale [‘aequilateralis’] Hieronymus in Engler (1895: 82), it seemingly remained unnoticed by pteridologists for nearly a century. Viane & Reichstein (1992) have pointed out that the name was not even listed in the Index Filicum of Christensen (1906) and Supplements, on which account it may have been overlooked in later relevant literature that includes Peter (1929), Faden (1973, 1974), and Jacobsen & Jacobsen (1989). Along with a specimen accessioned to Herb. B (Holst 2491), Viane & Reichstein (1992) relied on material collected by R.R. Schippers, held at Wageningen (Herb. WAG), to assess the status and position of Hieronymus’s variety. They deemed it recognisable at species rank and, accordingly, Viane published the name A. aequilaterale (Hieronymus in Engler 1895: 82) Viane in Viane & Reichstein (1992: 157), with Holst 2491 at Herb. B cited as the “holotype”. They recognised that the affinity of their species was not with A. anisophyllum in its present circumscription, but rather with the tropical African A. macrophlebium Baker in Hooker & Baker (1874: 485). The terrestrial A. aequilaterale was considered to grow in mid-montane forests between elevations of 1350 and 1950 m, within the South Pare and West Usambara mountains (Viane 1992). Schippers (1993) shortly thereafter extended the range of A. aequilaterale to include the North Pare mountains of Tanzania, and the Teita Hills of Kenya. He described it as a relatively common steep forest floor inhabitant, particularly in the South Pare and West Usambara mountains.

Abstract:Cynanchumthesioides, a species widely distributed in north-eastern Asia, is revised to include two new synonyms: Vincetoxicumsibiricumf.linearifolium, described from Shandong, China in 1877, but long neglected and Cynanchumgobicum, previously believed to be endemic to Mongolia. Typification for C.thesioides and all its synonyms is given, including lectotypification of V.sibiricumvar.australe and V.sibiricumf.linearifolium. An updated description, three figures showing the diverse habitats, habits and variation in morphological characters, and a general distribution map are also provided.

Abstract:The fully mycotrophic (Afrothismiaceae), formerly described as var. Cowley, is renamed, redescribed and illustrated from the Budongo Forest in Western Uganda. This change in status is supported by eight newly elucidated qualitative morphological diagnostic characters despite the overall similarity with , a species restricted to Cameroon and Gabon. is remarkable in the genus for occurring in semi-deciduous (not evergreen) forest and for having ellipsoid or ovoid (vs. globose) root bulbils. It has only been recorded twice, first in August 1940, and most recently in June 1998, despite targeted searches in recent years. In both 1940 and 1998, only single individuals appear to have been detected. A single site for the species is known with certainty. It is here assessed as Critically Endangered (CR B2ab (iii); D1) using the categories and criteria. is threatened by forest degradation and clearance due to illegal selective small-holder logging for firewood and charcoal, timber and limited agriculture.

It is recommended that Aethionema kopetdaghi be treated as validly published and that Anthurium ×macrolobum be treated as validly published by W. Bull ex T. Moore & Mast. (or Anon.). The Committee recommends against making a binding decision regarding the adequacy of the descriptive statement of Rhododendron humicola.

Abstract:Two new species are described for the Neotropics, four species are newly accepted, and four species and one variety are reported. The new species are: Cyathea grayumii A. Rojas and C. panamensis A. Rojas. Cyathea alfonsiana L. D. Gómez, C. holdridgeana Nisman & L. D. Gómez, C. onusta H. Christ and C. squarrosa (Rosenst.) Domin are recognized; Cnemidaria coclena Stolze, Cyathea andina (H. Karst.) Domin, C. caracasana var. meridensis (H. Karst.) R. M. Tryon, C. macrosora (Baker) Domin and C. pseudonanna (L. D. Gómez) Lellinger are reported from Costa Rica and Panama.
