Abstract:Hydrodynamics has been rather successful at describing results obtained in relativistic nuclear collisions at RHIC. Here we show results obtained with NeXSPheRIO on Au+Au collisions and the less studied Cu+Cu collisions. We study elliptic flow and its connection with eccentricity suggested by PHOBOS, as well as present elliptic flow fluctuations. We also show results for directed flow and compare with PHOBOS and STAR data.

Abstract:Recent data from the NA49 experiment on directed and elliptic flow for Pb+Pb reactions at CERN-SPS are compared to calculations with a hadron-string transport model, the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model. The rapidity and transverse momentum dependence of the directed and elliptic flow, i.e., ${v}_{1}$ and ${v}_{2}$, are investigated. The flow results are compared to data at three different centrality bins. Generally, a reasonable agreement between the data and the calculations is found. Furthermore, the energy excitation functions of ${v}_{1}$ and ${v}_{2}$ from ${E}_{\mathrm{beam}}=90A$ MeV to ${E}_{\mathrm{c}.\mathrm{m}.}=200A$ GeV are explored within the UrQMD framework and discussed in the context of the available data. It is found that, in the energy regime below ${E}_{\mathrm{beam}}\ensuremath{\leqslant}10A$ GeV, the inclusion of nuclear potentials is necessary to describe the data. Above $40A$ GeV beam energy, the UrQMD model starts to underestimate the elliptic flow. Around the same energy the slope of the rapidity spectra of the proton directed flow develops negative values. This effect is known as the third flow component (``antiflow'') and cannot be reproduced by the transport model. These differences can possibly be explained by assuming a phase transition from hadron gas to quark gluon plasma at about $40A$ GeV.

Abstract:We present elliptic flow ($v_2$) of identified hadrons at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 1.0$) in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} = 35\mathrm{~A~GeV}$ using the Parton Hadron String Dynamics (PHSD) model. Transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) dependence of identified hadron $v_2$ in minimum bias (0-80%) and three different centrality intervals (0-10%, 10-40%, and 40-80%) are presented. A clear centrality dependence of $v_2(p_\mathrm{T})$ is observed for particles and anti-particles in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} = 35\mathrm{~A~GeV}$. We also present $p_\mathrm{T}$ dependence of $v_2$ difference ($\mathrm{\Delta} v_2$) between particles and corresponding antiparticles. A significant difference in $v_2$ values for baryons and anti-baryons is observed. The number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling of $v_2$ is discussed in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} = 35\mathrm{~A~GeV}$. We also present ratio of $v_2(p_\mathrm{T})$ between the HSD and PHSD modes to explore the effect of hadronic and partonic interactions in the medium. We observe higher $v_2$ in PHSD mode than the HSD mode, which suggests the formation of partonic medium in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} = 35\mathrm{~A~GeV}$. These predictions are useful for the interpretation of data measured in Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at RHIC and will be useful for the future Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR).

Abstract:The well-known treatment of asymptotically flat vacuum fields is adapted to pure radiation fields. In this approach we find a natural normalization of the radiation null vector. The energy balance at null infinity shows that the mass loss results from a linear superposition of the pure and the gravitational radiation parts. By transformation to Bondi-Sachs coordinates the Kinnersley photon rocket is found to be the only axisymmetric Robinson-Trautman pure radiation solution without gravitational radiation.

Abstract:Fast thermalization and a strong buildup of elliptic flow of QCD matter as found at RHIC are understood as the consequence of perturbative QCD (pQCD) interactions within the 3+1 dimensional parton cascade BAMPS. The main contributions stem from pQCD bremsstrahlung $2 \leftrightarrow 3 $ processes. By comparing to Au+Au data of the flow parameter $v_2$ the shear viscosity to entropy ratio $\eta/s$ has been extracted dynamically and lies in the range of 0.08 and 0.2. Also jet-quenching has been investigated consistently within a full dynamical picture of the heavy ion collision. The results for gluonic jets indicate a slightly too large suppression, but are encouraging to understand the two major phenomena, strong flow and jet-quenching, within a unified microscopic treatment of kinetic processes. In addition, simulations on the temporal propagation of dissipative shock waves lead to the observation that an $\eta/s$ ratio larger than 0.2 prevents the development of well-defined shock waves on timescales typical for ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract:Space-time picture of the anisotropic flow evolution in Au+Au collisions at BNL RHIC is studied for strange hadrons within the microscopic quark-gluon string model. The directed flow of both mesons and hyperons demonstrates wiggle structure with the universal antiflow slope at |y| < 2 for minimum bias events. This effect increases as the reaction becomes more peripheral. The development of both components of the anisotropic flow is closely related to particle freeze-out. Hadrons are emitted continuously, and different hadronic species are decoupled from the system at different times. These hadrons contribute differently to the formation and evolution of the elliptic flow, which can be decomposed onto three components: (i) flow created by hadrons emitted from the surface at the onset of the collision; (ii) flow produced by jets; (iii) hydrodynamic flow. Due to these features, the general trend in elliptic flow formation is that the earlier mesons are frozen, the weaker their elliptic flow. In contrast, baryons frozen at the end of the system evolution have stronger v2.

Disentangling the development of collective flow in high energy proton proton collisions with a multiphase transport model

Abstract:In this work, we investigate the collective flow development in high energy proton proton (pp) collisions with a multiphase transport model (AMPT) based on PYTHIA8 initial conditions with a sub-nucleon structure. It is found that the PYTHIA8 based AMPT model can reasonably describe both the charged hadron productions and elliptic flow experimental data measured in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. By turning on the parton and hadron rescatterings in AMPT separately, we find that the observed collective flow in pp collisions is largely developed during the parton evolution, while no significant flow effect can be generated with the pure hadronic rescatterings. It is also shown that the parton escape mechanism is important for describing both the magnitude of the two-particle cumulant and the sign of the four-particle cumulants. We emphasize that the strong mass ordering of the elliptic flow results from the coalescence process in the transport model and can thus be regarded as unique evidence related to the creation of deconfined parton matter in high energy pp collisions.

Collision energy dependence of elliptic flow of identified hadrons in heavy-ion collisions using the PHSD model

Abstract:We report the first predictions of elliptic flow ($v_2$) of identified hadrons at mid-rapidity ($|y| <$ 1.0) in Au+Au collisions at $E_{lab} =$ 6.7, 8, 11, and 25 A GeV using the Parton Hadron String Dynamics (PHSD) model. The transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) dependence of identified hadron $v_2$ in different centrality intervals (0-10%, 10-40%, and 40-80%) are shown. A clear centrality dependence of $v_2(p_\mathrm{T})$ is observed for particles at $E_{lab} = $ 25 and 11 A GeV, while the centrality dependence becomes weaker for particles at $E_{lab} = $ 8 and 6.7 A GeV. Within the PHSD model, the number of constituent quark (NCQ) scaling of $v_2$ approximately follows in Au+Au collisions at all beam energies. A collision energy ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}$) dependence of $\pi$, $K$, and $p$ $v_2$ is studied in comparison with available published experimental data in the beam energy range of 6-25 A GeV. These predictions will help in interpreting the data from the forthcoming Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) and Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) at the Nuclotron-based Ion Collider facility (NICA).

Abstract:Based on A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model, we have studied the elliptic flow $v_{2}$ of $\phi$ mesons from reconstructed $K^{+}K^{-}$ decay channel at the top Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider energy at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The dependences of $v_{2}$ on transverse momentum $p_T$ and collision centrality are presented and the rescattering effect of $\phi$ mesons in the hadronic phase is also investigated. The results show that experimental measurement of $v_{2}$ for $\phi$ mesons can retain the early collision information before $\phi$ decays and that the $\phi$ $v_2$ value obeys the constituent quark number scaling which has been observed for other mesons and baryons. Our study indicates that the $\phi$ $v_2$ mostly reflects partonic level collectivity developed during the early stage of the nucleus-nucleus collision and the strange and light up/down quarks have developed similar angular anistropy properties at the hadronization.
Collective flows of clusters and pions in heavy-ion collisions at GeV energies

Abstract:Within the framework of the quantum molecular dynamics transport model, the collective flows of clusters and pions in heavy-ion collisions have been systematically investigated. The clusters are recognized by the Wigner phase-space density approach at the stage of freeze out in nuclear collisions, i.e., deuteron, triton, $^{3}$He and $\alpha$. The directed and elliptic flows of protons and deuterons in the reaction of $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au at incident energy 1.23\emph{A} GeV are nicely consistent with the recent HADES data. The higher order collective flows, i.e., triangular and quadrangle flows, manifest the opposite trends with the less amplitude in comparison with the rapidity distributions of directed and elliptic flows. The flow structure of $^{3}$He and $\alpha$ is very similar to the proton spectra. The influence of the pion potential on the pion production is systematically investigated and compared with the FOPI data via the transverse momentum, longitudinal rapidity and collective flows in collisions of $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au. It is manifested that the pion yields are slightly suppressed in the domain of mid-rapidity and high momentum. The antiflow phenomena is reduced by implementing the pion potential and more consistent with the FOPI data in collisions of $^{197}$Au+$^{197}$Au at the incident energy 1.5\emph{A} GeV.

Elliptic and quadrangular flow of protons in the high baryon density region

Abstract:The collective flow is crucial for understanding the anisotropic expansion of particles produced in heavy-ion collisions and is sensitive to the equation of state of nuclear matter in high baryon density regions. In this paper, we use the hadronic transport model SMASH to study the elliptic flow ($v_2$), quadrangular flow ($v_4$), and their ratio ($v_{4}/v_{2}^{2}$) in Au+Au collisions at high baryon density. Our results show that the inclusion of baryonic mean-field potential in the model successfully reproduces experimental data from the HADES experiment, indicating that baryonic interactions play an important role in shaping anisotropic flow. In addition to comparing the transverse momentum ($p_T$), rapidity, and centrality dependence of $v_{4}/v_{2}^{2}$ between HADES data and model calculations, we also explore its time evolution and energy dependence from $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =$ 2.4 to 4.5 GeV. We find that the ratio $v_{4}/v_{2}^{2}$ is close to 0.5, as expected from hydrodynamic behavior. These results suggest that the early-stage evolution in the high baryon density region resembles ideal fluid behavior.

Investigating radial-flow-like effects via pseudorapidity and transverse spherocity dependence of particle production in pp collisions at the LHC

Abstract:Recent observations of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) like signatures in high multiplicity proton-proton (pp) collisions, have compelled the heavy-ion physics community to re-examine the pp collisions for proper baseline studies. Event-shape-based studies in pp collisions have succeeded to a certain extent in identifying rare events mimicking such heavy-ion-like behaviour. In this manuscript, we incorporate PYTHIA8 to study radial flow-like signatures in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV as a function of transverse spherocity and pseudo-rapidity. The pseudo-rapidity dependence would help understand the scientific community for future upgrades. At the same time, the transverse spherocity will serve its purpose of identifying soft-QCD-dominated events in small collision systems. We present the mean transverse momentum, particle ratios, and kinetic freezeout parameters as a function of transverse spherocity and pseudo-rapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV using PYTHIA8. We observe that the isotropic events show enhanced radial-flow effects and jetty events show the absence of radial-flow-like effects. For the first time, we show the transverse spherocity and pseudorapidity dependence of partonic modification factor in pp collisions, which clearly shows that by choosing transverse spherocity one can directly probe the radial-flow-like effects in pp collisions at the LHC.

Pseudorapidity dependence of anisotropic flow and its decorrelations using long-range multiparticle correlations in Pb-Pb and Xe-Xe collisions

Abstract:The pseudorapidity dependence of elliptic ($v_2$), triangular ($v_3$), and quadrangular ($v_4$) flow coefficients of charged particles measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV and in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.44$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC are presented. The measurements are performed in the pseudorapidity range $-3.5 < \eta < 5$ for various centrality intervals using two- and multi-particle cumulants with the subevent method. The flow probability density function (p.d.f.) is studied with the ratio of flow coefficient $v_2$ calculated with four- and two-particle cumulant, and suggests that the variance of flow p.d.f. is independent of pseudorapidity. The decorrelation of the flow vector in the longitudinal direction is probed using two-particle correlations. The results measured with respect to different reference regions in pseudorapidity exhibit differences, argued to be a result of saturating decorrelation effect above a certain pseudorapidity separation, in contrast to previous publications which assign this observation to non-flow effects. The results are compared to $3+1$ dimensional hydrodynamic and the AMPT transport model calculations. Neither of the models is able to simultaneously describe the pseudorapidity dependence of measurements of anisotropic flow and its fluctuations. The results presented in this work highlight shortcomings in our current understanding of initial conditions and subsequent system expansion in the longitudinal direction. Therefore, they provide input for its improvement.

Abstract:Based on A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model, the elliptic flow v2 of φ meson which is reconstructed from K+K− at top relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) energy at Brookhaven Nation Laboratory (BNL) has been studied. The dependences of the transverse momentum pT and of the centrality have been presented and the rescattering effect of φ in the hadronic phase has been also investigated. The results show that reconstructed v2 of φ meson can keep the earlier information before φ decays and it seems to obey the number of constituent quark scaling as other mesons and baryons.
Anisotropic Flow of Identified Particles in Au + Au Collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3-3.9 GeV at RHIC

Abstract:In these proceedings, we present transverse momentum dependence of the mid-rapidity slope of directed flow ($dv_1/dy|_{y=0}$) for $\pi^+$ and $K_S^0$ in Au + Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3.0, 3.2, 3.5, and 3.9 GeV. Both $\pi^+$ and $K_S^0$ show negative $v_1$ slope at low $p_T$ ($p_T < 0.6$ GeV/$c$). Collision energy dependence of $v_1$ slope and $p_T$-integrated $v_2$ for $\pi^{\pm}$, $K_S^0$, and $\Lambda$ are also presented. A comparison to JAM model calculations indicates that spectator shadowing can lead to anti-flow at low $p_T$. In addition, a breaking of the Number of Constitute Quark (NCQ) scaling of elliptic flow ($v_2$) is observed at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3.2 GeV, which implies the dominance of hadronic degrees of freedom occurs in collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3.2 GeV and below.

Collective flow and the fluid behavior in p/d/$^3$He+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV

Abstract:By varying the intrinsic initial geometry, the p/d/$^3$He+Au collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) provide a unique opportunity to understand the collective behavior and probe the possible sub-nucleon fluctuations in small systems. In this paper, we employ the hybrid model iEBE-VISHNU with Trento initial conditions to study the collective flow and the fluid behavior in p/d/$^3$He+Au collisions. With fine-tuned parameters, iEBE-VISHNU can describe the $v_2(p_T)$ and $v_3(p_T)$ data from the PHENIX and STAR collaborations. However, for some certain parameter sets with initial sub-nucleon fluctuation, the hydrodynamic simulations have already beyond their limits with the average Knudsen number $\langle K_n \rangle$ obviously larger than one. Our calculations demonstrate that, for a meaningful evaluation of the fluid behavior in the small systems, model simulations should also pay attention to the validity range of hydrodynamics.

Abstract:The relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven national laboratory delivered in June 2000 the first collisions between Au nuclei at the highest center-of-mass energies achieved in a controlled enviroment to date, PHOBOS is one of the four experiments installed during this phase of RHIC running. This paper will describe the PHOBOS experiment, and discuss the results of the first physics measurement, the pseudo rapidity densities of primary charged particles near mid rapidity in central Au+Au collisions at two different energies, roots(NN) = 56 and 130 GeV. The observed densities are higher than those previously observed in any collisions, and the rate of increase between the two energies is larger than that for nucleon-nucleon collisions at comparable beam energies.
