Abstract:The contact effect of the curvic couplings has a significant impact on the dynamic characteristics of rotor blade casing (RBC) system in complex turboshaft engines. The contact model of the curvic couplings including three stages such as the elastic, elastoplastic and plastic deformation is proposed based on the Hertz contact theory and the mathematical statistics method. A new reduced model of the RBC system, which incorporates curvic couplings and variable-section structure, is derived based on the Timoshenko beam theory and Hamilton's variance principle. The contact model of the curvic couplings is simplified as an equivalent material layer and incorporated into the reduced model of the system. The validation of the proposed model is confirmed by comparing the natural frequency results of the finite element model and experimental results. The effects of the pre-tightening forces on the natural characteristics, nonlinear rubbing responses (including both steady-state vibration and the transient vibration) are investigated. The results show that the softening behavior of the curvic couplings looseness, induced by the pre-tightening forces, results in a reduction in natural frequencies. Significant amplitude amplification phenomena in the rotor vibration in x direction, torsional direction, bending vibration of the blade tip and casing vibration. Especially, the pre-tightening forces have a significant impact on both torsional vibration and blade bending vibration of the system. The saturation stage of the curvic couplings, caused by the pre-tightening force, is chosen to be within the range of 3.0 × 10 4 –2.0 × 10 5 N, where the curvic couplings are approximately equivalent to a rigid connection. The research results provide a quantitative foundation for diagnosing and identifying rubbing faults in aero-turboshaft engines with curvic couplings.
