Abstract:In this study, the successful synthesis of bimetallic nickel/cobalt phosphide nanosheets (Ni-Co-P NSs) via the hydrothermal method and the subsequent high-temperature phosphorization process were both confirmed. Ni-Co-P NSs exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity for the electrochemical non-enzymatic DA sensing. The surface morphologies and physicochemical properties of Ni-Co-P NSs were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), field-emission scanning (FESEM), field-emission transmission electron microscopy (FETEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Further, the electrochemical performance was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The metallic nature of phosphide and the synergistic effect of Ni/Co atoms in Ni-Co-P NSs provided abundant catalytic active sites for the electrochemical redox reaction of DA, which exhibited a remarkable consequence with a wide linear range from 0.3~50 μM, a high sensitivity of 2.033 μA μM−1 cm−2, a low limit of detection of 0.016 μM, and anti-interference ability. As a result, the proposed Ni-Co-P NSs can be considered an ideal electrode material for the electrochemical non-enzymatic DA sensing.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to develop an efficient and accurate method for detecting the concentration level of dopamine (DA). Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter that plays a key role in the central nervous system of mammals. It mainly regulates human desires and transmits information related to excitement and pleasure, thus affecting human emotions. Since the secretion and expression of dopamine in specific brain regions are crucial for maintaining normal physiological functions, the detection of its abnormal concentration levels is of great significance for preventing potential social, psychological and economic burdens. To achieve this goal, the researchers synthesized a bimetallic nickel - cobalt phosphide nanosheet (Ni - Co - P NSs) and sensed dopamine by the electrochemical non - enzymatic method. Specifically, this study successfully synthesized Ni - Co - P NSs through the hydrothermal method and high - temperature phosphating treatment, and characterized its surface morphology and physical and chemical properties. The experimental results show that Ni - Co - P NSs exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity for electrochemical non - enzymatic dopamine sensing. It has a wide linear range (0.3 - 50 μM), high sensitivity (2.033 μAμM−1cm−2), low detection limit (0.016 μM), and anti - interference ability, so it is considered an ideal electrode material for electrochemical non - enzymatic dopamine sensing. Through these studies, the paper aims to provide a new and efficient dopamine detection method to overcome the limitations of existing electrochemical enzymatic sensing platforms, such as high cost, complex preparation, poor reproducibility and susceptibility to environmental factors.
