Abstract:Chronic pain is defined as pain that requires continuous treatment and management, has persisted or recurred for more than 3 months, has a high prevalence, and causes deterioration in the quality of daily life. [ 1 , 2 ] Chronic pain conditions include back pain, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic cancer pain, chronic postsurgical and posttraumatic pain, chronic neuropathic pain, chronic headache, and chronic visceral pain. [ 3 ] However, chronic pain is a syndrome that is difficult to define as a single characteristic, and it is also a comorbidity of major diseases that increases social burdens, such as coronary artery disease, depression, cardiovascular disease, and cerebrovascular disease. A study showed that chronic pain was related to sociodemographic factors such as older age, female gender, lower socioeconomic status, history of abuse, or interpersonal violence. [ 4 ]
