Abstract:We show that direct summands (or more generally, pure images) of klt type singularities are of klt type. As a consequence, we give a different proof of a recent result of Braun, Greb, Langlois and Moraga that reductive quotients of klt type singularities are of klt type.

Abstract:We prove that the quotient of a klt type singularity by a reductive group is of klt type. In particular, given a klt variety $X$ endowed with the action of a reductive group $G$ and admitting a quasi-projective good quotient $X\rightarrow X/\!/G$, we can find a boundary $B$ on $X/\!/G$ so that the pair $(X/\!/G,B)$ is klt. This applies for example to GIT-quotients of klt varieties. Our main result has consequences for complex spaces obtained as quotients of Hamiltonian Kähler $G$-manifolds, for collapsings of homogeneous vector bundles as introduced by Kempf, and for good moduli spaces of smooth Artin stacks. In particular, it implies that the good moduli space parametrizing $n$-dimensional K-polystable Fano manifolds of volume $v$ has klt type singularities. As a corresponding result regarding global geometry, we show that quotients of Mori Dream Spaces with klt Cox rings are Mori Dream Spaces with klt Cox ring. This in turn applies to show that projective GIT-quotients of varieties of Fano type are of Fano type; in particular, projective moduli spaces of semistable quiver representations are of Fano type.

Abstract:We investigate the singularities and boundedness of a special kind of algebraic varieties so-called stable minimal models, which are constructed and studied by Birkar. Given a klt stable minimal model with bounded relative volume, if we fix the dimension, Iitaka volume, and a DCC set controlling coefficients, then we show that the singularities of the klt stable minimal model can be controlled uniformly. Furthermore, we prove that with certain bounded data, stable minimal models with klt singularities form a bounded family.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a finite dimensional $k$-vector space, where $k$ is an algebraic closed field of characteristic zero. Let $G \subseteq\ mathrm{SL}(V)$ be a finite abelian group, and denote by $S$ the $G$-invariant subring of the polynomial ring $k[V]$. It is shown that the singularity category $D_{sg}(S)$ recovers the reduced singular locus of $\mathrm{Spec}(S)$.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a local field of characteristic zero. Rankin-Selberg's local zeta integrals produce linear functionals on generic irreducible admissible smooth representations of $GL_n(k)\times GL_r(k)$, with certain invariance properties. We show that up to scalar multiplication, these linear functionals are determined by the invariance properties.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a series of new invariants for singularities. A new conjecture about the non-existence of negative weight derivations of the new k-th singular locus moduli algebras for weighted homogeneous isolated hypersurface singularities is proposed. We verify this conjecture in some cases.

Abstract:Recent study in K-stability suggests that Kawamata log terminal (klt) singularities whose local volumes are bounded away from zero should be bounded up to special degeneration. We show that this is true in dimension three, or when the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are bounded from above. We conjecture that the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are always bounded from above, and verify it in dimension three when the local volumes are bounded away from zero. We also answer a question from Han, Liu, and Qi on the relation between log canonical thresholds and local volumes.

The higher Du Bois and higher rational properties for isolated singularities

Abstract:Higher rational and higher Du Bois singularities have recently been introduced as natural generalizations of the standard definitions of rational and Du Bois singularities. In this note, we discuss these properties for isolated singularities, especially in the locally complete intersection (lci) case. First, we reprove the fact that a $k$-rational isolated singularity is $k$-Du Bois without any lci assumption. For isolated lci singularities, we give a complete characterization of the $k$-Du Bois and $k$-rational singularities in terms of standard invariants of singularities. In particular, we show that $k$-Du Bois singularities are $(k-1)$-rational for isolated lci singularities. In the course of the proof, we establish some new relations between invariants of isolated lci singularities and show that many of these vanish. The methods also lead to a quick proof of an inversion of adjunction theorem in the isolated lci case. Finally, we discuss some results specific to the hypersurface case.

On $k$-Du Bois and $k$-rational singularities

Abstract:We introduce new notions of $k$-Du Bois and $k$-rational singularities, extending the previous definitions in the case of local complete intersections (lci), to include natural examples outside of this setting. We study the stability of these notions under general hyperplane sections and show that varieties with $k$-rational singularities are $k$-Du Bois, extending previous results in [MP22b] and [FL22b] in the lci and the isolated singularities cases. In the process, we identify the aspects of the theory that depend only on the vanishing of higher cohomologies of Du Bois complexes (or related objects), and not on the behaviour of the Kähler differentials.

Multiplier ideals and klt singularities via (derived) splittings

Abstract:Let $X$ be a normal, excellent, noetherian scheme over $\operatorname{Spec}\mathbb{Q}$ with a dualizing complex. In this note, we find an alternate characterization of the multiplier ideal of $X$, as defined by de Fernex-Hacon, by considering maps $\pi_*\omega_Y\to\mathcal{O}_X$ where $\pi:Y\to X$ ranges over all regular alterations. As a corollary to this result, we give a derived splinter characterization of klt singularities, akin to the characterization of rational singularities given by Kovács and Bhatt. We also give an analogous description of the test ideal in characteristic $p>2$ as a corollary to a result of Epstein-Schwede.

Iteration of Cox rings of klt singularities

Abstract:In this article, we study the iteration of Cox rings of klt singularities (and Fano varieties) from a topological perspective. Given a klt singularity (X,Δ;x) , we define the iteration of Cox rings of (X,Δ;x) . The first result of this article is that the iteration of Cox rings Cox(k)(X,Δ;x) of a klt singularity stabilizes for k large enough. The second result is a boundedness one, we prove that for an n ‐dimensional klt singularity (X,Δ;x) , the iteration of Cox rings stabilizes for k⩾c(n) , where c(n) only depends on n . Then, we use Cox rings to establish the existence of a simply connected factorial canonical (or scfc) cover of a klt singularity, with general fiber being an extension of a finite group by an algebraic torus. The scfc cover generalizes both the universal cover and the iteration of Cox rings. We prove that the scfc cover dominates any sequence of quasi‐étale finite covers and reductive abelian quasi‐torsors of the singularity. We characterize when the iteration of Cox rings is smooth and when the scfc cover is smooth. We also characterize when the spectrum of the iteration coincides with the scfc cover. Finally, we give a complete description of the regional fundamental group, the iteration of Cox rings, and the scfc cover of klt singularities of complexity one. Analogous versions of all our theorems are also proved for Fano‐type morphisms. To extend the results to this setting, we show that the Jordan property holds for the regional fundamental group of Fano‐type morphisms.

Triangulated characterizations of singularities

Abstract:This work presents a range of triangulated characterizations for important classes of singularities such as derived splinters, rational singularities, and Du Bois singularities. An invariant called 'level' in a triangulated category can be used to measure the failure of a variety to have a prescribed singularity type. We provide explicit computations of this invariant for reduced Nagata schemes of Krull dimension one and for affine cones over smooth projective hypersurfaces. Furthermore, these computations are utilized to produce upper bounds for Rouquier dimension on the respective bounded derived categories.

Higher Du Bois and higher rational singularities

Abstract:We prove that the higher direct images $R^qf_*\Omega^p_{\mathcal Y/S}$ of the sheaves of relative Kähler differentials are locally free and compatible with arbitrary base change for flat proper families whose fibers have $k$-Du Bois local complete intersection singularities, for $p\leq k$ and all $q\geq 0$, generalizing a result of Du Bois (the case $k=0$). We then propose a definition of $k$-rational singularities extending the definition of rational singularities, and show that, if $X$ is a $k$-rational variety with either isolated or local complete intersection singularities, then $X$ is $k$-Du Bois. As applications, we discuss the behavior of Hodge numbers in families and the unobstructedness of deformations of singular Calabi-Yau varieties. In an appendix, Morihiko Saito proves that, in the case of hypersurface singularities, the $k$-rationality definition proposed here is equivalent to a previously given numerical definition for $k$-rational singularities. As an immediate consequence, it follows that for hypersurface singularities, $k$-Du Bois singularities are $(k-1)$-rational. This statement has recently been proved for all local complete intersection singularities by Chen-Dirks-Mustaţă.

Stable degeneration of families of klt singularities with constant local volume

Abstract:We prove that for a locally stable family of klt singularities with constant local volume, the ideal sequences of the minimizing valuations for the normalized volume function form a family of ideals with flat cosupport, which induces a degeneration to a locally stable family of K-semistable log Fano cone singularities. Our proof is a family version of the method of C. Xu and Z. Zhuang proving finite generation by Kollár models and multiple degenerations.

Abstract:We show that a set of K-semistable log Fano cone singularities is bounded if and only if their local volumes are bounded away from zero, and their minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are bounded from above. As corollaries, we confirm the boundedness conjecture for K-semistable log Fano cone singularities in dimension three, and show that local volumes of 3-dimensional klt singularities only accumulate at zero.

Abstract:We introduce the concept of higher $F$-injectivity, a generalisation of $F$-injectivity. We prove that an isolated singularity over a field of characteristic zero is $k$-Du Bois if it is $k$-$F$-injective after reductions modulo infinitely many primes $p$. Under the ordinarity conjecture, we also establish the converse. As an application, we study Frobenius liftable hypersurfaces.

Abstract:Working over an algebraically closed field $k$ of any characteristic, we determine the matrix factorizations for the --- suitably graded --- triangle singularities $f=x^a+y^b+z^c$ of domestic type, that is, we assume that $(a,b,c)$ are integers at least two, satisfying $1/a+1/b+1/c>1$. Using work by Kussin-Lenzing-Meltzer, this is achieved by determining projective covers in the Frobenius category of vector bundles on the weighted projective line of weight type $(a,b,c)$. Equivalently, in a representation-theoretic context, we can work in the mesh category of $\mathbb{Z}\tilde\Delta$ over $k$, where $\tilde\Delta$ is the extended Dynkin diagram, corresponding to the Dynkin diagram $\Delta=[a,b,c]$. Our work is related to, but in methods and results different from, the determination of matrix factorizations for the $\mathbb{Z}$-graded simple singularities by Kajiura-Saito-Takahashi. In particular, we obtain symmetric matrix factorizations whose entries are scalar multiples of monomials, with scalars taken from $\{0,\pm1\}$.
