Abstract:<p>Low-cost sodium ion batteries (SIBs) have emerged as alternatives to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). BiPO4 is often used as anode of SIBs due to its high specific volume and low discharge point. The structure of PO43− is stable and can reduce structural changes during circulation which improves the cyclic stability of resulting batteries. However, BiPO4 is an extremely poor electrical conductor and often shows a greatly reduced specific capacity at fewer than 100 cycles. Functional improvements were obtained by synthesizing a composite () using reduced graphene oxide (rGO). The nanocomposite showed improved conductivity and cyclic stability due to the presence of rGO. The reversible specify capacity of BiPO4@rGO was maintained at 443.2 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1, and holding 406 mA h g−1 at 200 mA g−1 for over 200 cycles. These values were much higher than that of pure BiPO4 (&lt;100 mA h g−1). The BiPO4@rGO composite electrode exhibited a higher rate performance, demonstrating its potential for use in high-quality specific-capacity SIBs.</p>
