Abstract:Objectives To develop and evaluate the self-management scale for peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Methods The item pool was formulated based on literature reviews and in-depth interviews. An initial scale containing five factors and 44 items was constructed through two rounds of Delphi expert consultation and a preliminary test. A total of 313 PD patients from the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai area were surveyed to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Results Five factors, namely solution bag replacement, troubleshooting during operation, diet management, complication monitoring, emotion management and return to social life, were extracted by exploratory factor analysis: the 28 items could explain 64.567% of the total variance; the content validity index was 0.963; the Cronbach's α coefficient and split-half coefficient were 0.926 and 0.960 respectively; and test-retest reliability was 0.937. Conclusion The scale has been proved to be a reliable and valid tool which allows PD nurses to evaluate the self-management ability of PD patients. The evaluation outcomes can serve as a basis for individualized nursing plans and interventions so as to provide highly effective nursing care.

Abstract:Tuberculosis remains a major threat to global public health. Regarding its control, directly observed therapy is not suitable as a global strategy for all tuberculosis patients. Self-management may be an important patient-centered tuberculosis case management supplement to directly observed therapy. However, there is currently no well-established instrument for measuring the self-management of tuberculosis patients. This study aimed to develop and validate a self-management scale for tuberculosis patients.

Analysis of Multiple Factors to Predict the Stone Free Rate of Flexible Ureteroscopic Lithotripsy and the Clinical Significance of Stone-Free Index Model

Abstract:Objective To analyze the related factors that influence the stone free rate ( SFR) in flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy ( FURL ) and develop a stone free index ( SFI ) model to estimate and predict the outcome of FURL.Methods A total of 393 patients receiving FURL were included in this study from May 2013 to August 2014.All patients′and calculous characteristics were recorded.It was evaluated the correlation of one-stage SFR with body mass index, the degree of hydronephrosis, the sterile urine, the renal insufficiency, the stone location, the stone number, the cumulative stone diameter ( CSD) , the stone density, the average of CT values, the minimum angle of pelvis ureter long axis with lamp long axis, the average length of stone located calyx-neck, and the minimum ratio of stone located calyx-neck′width with calyx′width.Multivariate regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between preoperative characteristics and the SFR.Results The one-stage postoperative SFR in our study was 92.4% ( 363/393).We found that the staghorn stone, bacteriuria, CSD, average of CT values, the average length of stone located calyx-neck, the minimum ratio of stone located calyx-neck′width with calyx′width were significantly correlated with the postoperative SFR ( P <0.05 ) .We used logistic regression analysis to determine statistical significant variables and to create predictable mathematical model.The SFI system was consist of four stone characteristics, including the staghorn stone, the cumulative stone diameter, the average length of stone located calyx-neck, and the minimum ratio of stone located calyx-neck′width with calyx′width.The SFI had a high ROC curve (AUC=0.867) for predicting the one-stage postoperative stone free outcome.SFI score >7.5 meant a relatively high SFR ( SFR>85%) of FURL.Conclusions A SFI model using preclinical data was developed to predict the postoperative outcome of FURL, as well as the one-stage SFR.This model needs further prospective studies in the future.

Abstract:The study is aimed to establish a predictive model of double-J stent encrustation after upper urinary tract calculi surgery. We collected the clinical data of 561 patients with indwelling double-J tubes admitted to a hospital in Shandong Province from January 2019 to December 2020 as the modeling group and 241 cases of indwelling double-J tubes from January 2021 to January 2022 as the verification group. Univariate and binary logistic regression analyses were used to explore risk factors, the risk prediction equation was established, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis model was used for prediction. In this study, 104 of the 561 patients developed double-J stent encrustation, with an incidence rate of 18.5%. We finally screened out BMI (body mass index) > 23.9 (OR = 1.648), preoperative urine routine white blood cell quantification (OR = 1.149), double-J tube insertion time (OR = 1.566), postoperative water consumption did not reach 2000 ml/d (OR = 8.514), a total of four factors build a risk prediction model. From the ROC curve analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.844, and the maximum Oden index was 0.579. At this time, the sensitivity was 0.735 and the specificity was 0.844. The research established in this study has a high predictive value for the occurrence of double-J stent encrustation in the double-J tube after upper urinary tract stone surgery, which provides a basis for the prevention and treatment of double-J stent encrustation.

Abstract:Aim To develop and test the psychometric properties of an expanded catheter self‐management scale for patients with in‐dwelling urinary catheters. Design A cross‐sectional validation study. Despite the utility of the original 13‐item catheter self‐management scale, this instrument did not include bowel management, general hygiene and drainage bag care, which are fundamental skills in urinary catheter self‐management to prevent common problems resulting in unnecessary hospital presentations. The expanded catheter self‐management scale was developed with 10 additional items to comprehensively assess all five essential aspects of urinary catheter self‐management. Methods A total of 101 adult community‐dwelling patients living with indwelling urinary catheters were recruited from Western Sydney, Australia. Using exploratory factor analysis with Varimax rotation, the number of factors to be extracted from the expanded 23‐item expanded catheter self‐management scale was determined using a scree plot. The reliability of the overall scale and subscales was measured using Cronbach's alpha. Convergent validity was assessed using Spearman's correlations between clinical characteristics, overall scale and subscales. Results The 23‐item expanded catheter self‐management scale yielded a 5‐factor solution, labelled as: (i) self‐monitoring of catheter function, (ii) proactive, help‐seeking behaviour function, (iii) bowel self‐care function, (iv) hygiene‐related catheter site function and (v) drainage bag care function. Cronbach's alpha of the expanded catheter self‐management scale indicating all 23 items contributed to the overall alpha value. Convergent validity results showed a negative correlation between the overall expanded catheter self‐management scale and catheter‐related problems. Conclusion The 5‐factor structure provided a comprehensive assessment of key aspects of urinary catheter self‐management essential to reduce the likelihood of catheter‐related hospital presentations. Implications The expanded catheter self‐management scale can be used to assess and monitor effective patient‐centred interventions for optimal self‐management to prevent catheter‐related problems and improve the quality of life of patients. Impact Many patients start their journey of living with a urinary catheter unexpectedly and are not supported with quality information to care for their catheter. The findings of this study show the correlation between catheter self‐management skills and catheter‐related problems. The expanded catheter self‐management scale (E‐CSM) assists with analysing the self‐management skills of patients living with a catheter and developing tailored interventions to prevent problems and improve their quality of life. In addition, this screening tool can be included in policies, guidelines, and care plans as a standard for improving catheter management and developing educational resources for patients. Reporting Method STROBE checklist was used to report all aspects of this study comprehensively and accurately. Patient or Public Contribution Patients living with indwelling urinary catheter and their carers have participated in surveys, interviews and co‐designing interventions. This paper reports the psychometric analysis of the expanded catheter self‐management scale (E‐CSM) used in the patient survey as part of the main study 'Improving Quality of Life of Patients Living with Indwelling Urinary Catheters: IQ‐IDC Study' (Alex et al. in Collegian, 29:405–413, 2021). We greatly value our consumers' contributions and continue to communicate the progress of the study to them. Their contributions will be acknowledged in all publications and presentations. In addition, all participants will be provided the option of receiving the interventions and publications generated from this study.

Abstract:Background: The self-management ability of patients with hypertension is poor, and self-quantification increases gradually with the development of electronics. Self-quantification for patients with hypertension has important implications for individual health. However, there is a lack of relevant scales at present, and we aim to develop a self-quantified scale for patients with hypertension. Methods: The instrument was developed based on protection motivation theory with literature review, a qualitative interview study and focus group discussions, and pilot testing. A total of 360 patients with hypertension were investigated using the scale. The psychometric properties of the scale were evaluated concerning validity and reliability employing internal consistency reliability, split-half reliability, test-retest reliability, content validity (S-CVI/Ave and I-CVI), and construct validity (exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis). Results: The final scale had 30 items with seven sub-domains. The Cronbach's α for all domains was 0.900 with a range of 0.817–0.938. The split-half reliability coefficient for all domains was 0.743 with a range of 0.700–0.888. The test-retest reliability coefficient for all domains was 0.880 with a range of 0.849–0.943. The S-CVI/Ave for all domains was 0.922 with a range of 0.906- 0.950, and the I-CVI of each item was a range of 0.800–1.000. The result of confirmatory factor analysis of this scale showed that χ2/df was 2.499, RMSEA = 0.065, GFI=0.865, NFI=0.894, IFI=0.934, TLI=0.914, CFI=0.933, RFI=0.865. The Pearson's coefficients between the total scale and every domain were ranging from 0.347 to 0.695, and each domain ranged from 0.130 to 0.481. Conclusion: The scale has good validity and reliability and can be used as a self-quantification scale for patients with hypertension.

Abstract:BACKGROUNDS: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients may face many problems resulted from their conditions. To delay the progress of CHB, patients should be responsible for the management of their conditions. There is no dedicated scale for assessing self-management behaviors of CHB patients.OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop and validate a self-report measure designed to assess the self-management behaviors for CHB patients (CHBSMS).DESIGN: A cross-sectional descriptive study design.SETTING: Participants were recruited from the infectious disease department of two hospitals in China.PARTICIPANTS: A sample of 248 and 346 CHB patients for item analysis and test for validity and reliability, respectively.METHODS: An initial 45-item scale developed based on item generation and a two-round Delphi survey was assessed by CHB patients for item analysis to develop a final scale. Construct validity was evaluated by exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The Chronic Disease Self-Management Behavior Scale (CDSMBS) was used to test the criterion validity. Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were assessed by Cronbach's α coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), respectively.RESULTS: A 25-item scale was developed. EFA indicated a four-factor structure (symptom management, lifestyle management, psychosocial coping and disease information management), which accounted for 58.149% of the total variance. CFA indicated appropriate fit of the four-factor model. The total scores of CHBSMS was correlated with that of CDSMBS (r = 0.634, P < 0.01). The Cronbach's α coefficient (α = 0.887) and the test-retest correlation coefficient (ICC = 0.871) showed good internal consistency and stability of the scale.CONCLUSIONS: The 25-item CHBSMS is a reliable and valid measure that can be used to assess the self-management behaviors of CHB patients for improving patient education and health-related outcomes.

Abstract:Background: To establish a dietary self-management evaluation indicators scale for kidney transplant recipients and to test the reliability and validity of the scale. Methods: Based on the knowledge attitude practice model (KAP model) of health-related behavior changes, an evaluation indicators scale of dietary self-management ability of kidney transplant recipients was constructed through a literature review, expert consultation and group discussion. A questionnaire survey was carried out with 102 kidney transplant recipients from a large tertiary hospital to test the reliability and validity of the constructed scale. Results: The dietary self-management ability scale for kidney transplant recipients had 29 items in 3 dimensions. The content validity at the scale level was 0.969, and the content validity at the item level was 0.778-1.000. Exploratory factor analysis extracted 3 common factors, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 68.610%; the correlation coefficient between each dimension was 0.467-0.629, and the correlation coefficient between each dimension and the total score of the scale was 0.648-0.845. Cronbach's α for the scale was 0.831, and the test-retest reliability of the scale was 0.910. Conclusions: The constructed dietary self-management ability scale for kidney transplant recipients has good reliability and validity and can be used as a tool to evaluate the dietary self-management ability of kidney transplant recipients.
The Development of a Behaviour Questionnaire for Stoma Self-Management for Persons with Bladder Cancer and an Ileal Conduit

Abstract:Aims To develop and preliminarily test the reliability and validity of a behaviour questionnaire for stoma self-management for patients with bladder cancer after radical cystectomy and ileal conduit. Design A psychometric instrument validation study conducted in two phases. Methods The initial version of behaviour questionnaire was developed based on guidelines for people living with a stoma. Five experts validated the content of the preliminary 29-item questionnaire. A cross-sectional survey was then conducted in Beijing for preliminary reliability and validity tests between 4 December 2017-28 April 2018. A total of 151 participants in the survey, 147 of whom completed the study and 16 completed a 2-week test-retest reliability test. Results The content validity indices were satisfied. A principal component analysis with direct oblimin rotation was performed. Sixteen items were retained, and three factors were identified, namely, pouching system change, emotional management, and role management. The 16-item questionnaire showed acceptable internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The mediational effect of self-management behaviour on the relationship between self-efficacy and stoma quality of life was confirmed via convergent validity testing. Conclusion The behaviour questionnaire for stoma self-management appears to have adequate initial reliability and validity. More observational and interventional studies need to be conducted for further evaluation of its psychometric properties. Impact This study developed a reliable instrument to measure self-management behaviours for persons living with a stoma after radical cystectomy and ileal conduit. The questionnaire has practical value for both healthcare providers and researchers working in this field. The 16-item questionnaire can be administered quickly in clinical practice. Based on the questionnaire and the elicited mediational model, psycho-education programs tailored to improve self-management should be designed, implemented, and re-inspected regarding their effectiveness for the target population in China.
Effects of continuing nursing care under cognitive behavioral intervention on psychological state and living quality in patients with double J catheter after ureterolithiasis surgery

Abstract:Objective: The effects of continuing nursing care under cognitive behavioral intervention on the psychological state and living quality of patients with double J catheter after ureterolithiasis surgery were analyzed in this research. Methods: The research subjects in this study were 142 patients who were discharged from our hospital with a double J tube after ureterolithiasis surgeries from June 2019 to June 2020. According to the patient care plan, the subjects were divided into the control group (n=71) and the observation group (n=71) and respectively treated with routine basic nursing measures and continuing nursing care under cognitive-behavior intervention. Subsequently, the psychological state, living quality and the complications that occurred were compared between the two groups. Results: The depression and anxiety scores of the two groups after 4 weeks of intervention, comparing to thoes before intervention, were seen with remarkably decreased significance (P<0.05). The scores of living quality and self-care quality of patients in the observation group were obviously higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). In addition, the incidence of complications in the observation group was critically lower than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Continuous nursing care under cognitive behavioral intervention can substantially improve the psychological state, living quality and self-care ability of patients with double J tube after ureterolithiasis surgery, and reduce the incidence of complications, which is worthy of clinic promotion.
Development and Validation of the Chinese Version of the Self-Management Support Scale for Kidney Transplant Recipients

Abstract:Background Providing self-management support to kidney transplant recipients is essential. However, a scale to identify the self-management support they have received is lacking. The purpose of this study is to develop a Self-management Support Scale for Kidney Transplant Recipients (SMSSKTR) and test its psychometric properties. Methods This is an instrument development and validation study, which has a three-stage cross-sectional design. In Stage 1, a preliminary item pool was formed using a literature review, semi-structured interviews, and the Delphi method. In Stage 2, six experts were invited to assess content validity. A convenience sample of 313 participants was used to explore the factor structure by using exploratory factor analysis. The test-retest reliability was assessed using the intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). In Stage 3, two hundred and sixty-five participants were recruited to validate the factor structure by using confirmatory factor analysis. Convergent validity was examined using Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient and corrected item-total correlation coefficient were used to test the reliability of the entire scale and its dimensions. The study was reported according to the STARD and GRRAS checklists. Results An initial 40-item scale was developed in Stage 1. In Stage 2, three factors with 22 items emerged from the exploratory factor analysis: instrumental support, psychosocial support, and relational support. The content validity index of the scale was 0.97. The intra-class correlation coefficient for the entire scale and the subscales were 0.915, 0.771, 0.896, and 0.832, respectively. In Stage 3, the confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the three-factor model had a good fit. The score of the scale was positively associated with that of the Self-Management Scale of Renal Transplant Recipients ( r = 0.532). Cronbach’s alpha was 0.959 for the entire scale and 0.956–0.958 for the three subscales. The corrected item-total correlation coefficient ranged from 0.62 to 0.82. Conclusion The 22-item SMSSKTR has sufficient psychometric properties to assess the self-management support they have received, which has not been measured before.
Development and preliminary validation of a PROS scale for Chinese bladder cancer patients with abdominal stoma

Abstract:Bladder cancer is a common malignant tumor, and patients who have undergone radical cystectomy and urinary diversion require a lifelong abdominal stoma. This greatly affects their physiological, psychological, and social well-being. However, there is currently a lack of a self-assessment outcome scale specifically designed for bladder cancer patients with abdominal stomas. Therefore, we developed and validated a self-assessment outcome scale (PROS-BCAS) for Chinese bladder cancer patients with abdominal stomas. The scale was initially developed through literature research and expert consultation, and it comprised four dimensions: physiological, psychological, social, and treatment, with a total of 66 items. After item analysis, 44 items were retained. We collected scale data from 382 patients to examine its validity and reliability. The results showed that the PROS-BCAS scale had good content validity (S-CVI/Ave = 0.992), construct validity (KMO > 0.6), and discriminant validity (correlation coefficient 0.404–0.870). The Cronbach's alpha coefficients (0.801–0.954), test–retest reliability (0.778–0.956), and split-half reliability (0.896–0.977) all demonstrated good internal consistency for each dimension and the overall scale. The study demonstrated that the PROS-BCAS scale is a reliable and valid tool for accurately assessing the health-related quality of life of bladder cancer patients with abdominal stomas, providing reference for developing individualized clinical care plans.

Abstract:Objective To develop the Cancer Patients PICC Self-management Scale(CPPSM),and to test its validity and reliability.Methods Initial version of the CPPSM was formulated by using literature reviewing and in-depth interviewing of patients and PICC nurse specialists.Totally,256 cancer patients with PICC completed the CPPSM after expert consultation and pre-test of the scale.Results Seven factors containing 35 items were extracted by using exploratory factor analysis:daily observation of catheters,compliance with catheter maintenance,confidence in catheter management,handling of abnormal events,information access,exercises with catheters,and daily life with catheters;the 7 factors explained 62.260% of the total variance.The content validity index(CVI) was 0.922,and the Cronbach's α was 0.904 and test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.933.Conclusion The self-designed CPPSM has good validity and reliability,which can be applied to assess self-management ability of cancer patients with PICC.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to develop the Chinese version of the totally implantable venous access port (TIVAP) self-management behavior scale for patients with cancer to provide a reliable tool for medical staff to judge patients with TIVAP self-management behavior. Methods: This study employed a mixed-method exploratory design. The initial scale was developed through a literature review, expert meetings, and two-round Delphi expert consultation. The reliability indicators included retest reliability and Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The validity indicators included content, construct, convergent, discriminant, and criterion validity. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were employed for the validity analysis; 22 venous therapy experts participated in the Delphi expert consultation. A total of 500 patients were recruited from two third-class A hospitals in Guangdong Province, China, between July 2020 and January 2021 to test reliability and validity. A convenience sampling method was adopted. Results: The final scale comprised seven dimensions and 29 items. The content validity index (S-CVI) was 0.990. Cronbach's alpha coefficient and retest reliability of the scale were 0.931 and 0.900, respectively. The EFA results indicated a seven-factor structure, accounting for 65.68% of the total data variance. The results of the CFA showed that the CMIN/DF value was 2.348; the root mean square error of approximation value was 0.06; and the values of comparative fit index, incremental fit index, and Tucker-Lewis index were all >0.90. The factor loadings for all the items were >0.50, the composite reliability value was >0.70, and the average variance extracted (AVE) value was >0.50. Moreover, all absolute values of the correlation coefficients were less than the square root of the AVE for the seven dimensions. The total scores between the health promoting lifestyle profile-II revise (HPLP-IIR) and CPTSMBS were positively correlated (r = 0.465, p < 0.01). Conclusion: The scale demonstrated good reliability and validity and can be applied in clinical practice to evaluate self-management behavior among patients using a TIVAP.

Abstract:Urolithiasis is a common urological condition that causes significant pain and suffering. Until recently few studies had been done to examine how quality of life is affected in stone formers. We hypothesized that patients with multiple recurrent episodes of urolithiasis have worse health related quality of life. Thus, we identified specific factors that impact health related quality of life in patients with urolithiasis.In an institutional review board approved study we recruited 386 patients through mailings and through the outpatient clinic who were evaluated at our institution for urolithiasis in the last 5 years. Each patient was asked to answer questionnaires on stone disease, including SF-36®, a validated 36-item health care quality of life survey.Of the 386 patients recruited for study 115 responded to our inquiry. Variables such as surgical complications, time from last stone episode, number of emergency room visits and number of surgeries correlated with the SF-36 domains.Urolithiasis is associated with severe physical and psychological effects that lead to clinically significant impairment in quality of life. Our findings confirm and expand the findings of previous groups showing the many ways in which stone formation can affect patient quality of life. Appreciation of these effects in the acute and chronic treatment settings may change the way that the disease is approached.
Development and preliminary validation of a diagnostic prediction model to optimise outpatient management of patients with urolithiasis using urinary stones and intervention quality of life (USIQoL) measure

Abstract:Purpose: Patients with urinary calculi undergo resource-intensive follow-up. Application of a PROM, Urinary Stones and Intervention Quality of Life (USIQoL), can potentially optimise current practices if it matches the outcomes of traditional follow-up. Our objective was to develop, and conduct, a preliminary validation of the USIQoL based prediction model to aid triage. Methods: We performed a two phase prospective cohort study. The 1st phase included development of the USIQoL-based decision model using multicentre data. The 2nd phase involved prospective single-blind external validation for the outpatient application. The aim was to evaluate correlations between the USIQoL scores and key predictors; clinical outcomes and global health ratings (EuroQoL EQ-5D). We used statistical analysis to validate USIQoL cut-off scores to aid triage and the decision to intervene. Results: Of 503 patients invited, 91% (n = 455, Development [305] and Validation [150]; M = 308, F = 147) participated. The relationship between USIQoL domain scores and clinical outcomes was consistently significant (estimated odds: PPH 1.24, p < 0.001, 95% CI 1.13-1.36; PSH 1.22, p < 0.001, 95% CI 1.12-1.33). The ROC values for the model were ≥ 0.75. The optimum domain cut-off scores were derived with rising scores implying increased need to intervene. The model demonstrated satisfactory sensitivity (0.81-0.89) and specificity (0.36-0.47). Conclusions: The study demonstrates satisfactory correlation between the USIQoL and clinical outcomes making this model a valid aid for triage and optimising outpatient management with the cut-off scores able to identify high risk patients who need active treatment.

Patients and Methods: Twenty-nine individuals living with cardiovascular disease from one designated Cardiology Department in Hangzhou, China, were recruited through a purposive sampling procedure. A qualitative descriptive methodology was used. Semi-structured interviews were also used to gain attitudes toward self-management. The interviews were audiorecorded, transcribed and analyzed by thematic analysis to develop the results. Results: Four themes were identified from the qualitative data: (1): Responsibilities of selfmanagement; (2): Reflections on self-management; (3): Acknowledgement of self-management support; (4): Challenges in implementing and adherence to self-management. Additionally, interview data were also given to illustrate these main themes emerging during the analysis. Patients gradually took their responsibilities to manage chronic symptoms. During their self-management process, they did reflections to help correct their regiments through supportive interactions. Health system responsiveness, health disparities, social capital, and cultural setting were the main external factors influencing better self-management implementation and adherence. Conclusion: This study revealed the hospitalized cardiovascular patients’ attitudes towards self-management in China. These findings emphasized the importance of patients’ responsibility, reflections, and various social support receiving and pointed out specific external factors influencing the health outcomes and their quality of life. This study also proves the guide for the policymakers and health system better instructions to develop individually and culturally tailored advanced self-management interventions and programs.

Abstract:Objectives This study aimed to investigate the correlation between self-care ability, psychological status, and quality of life in patients with hepatolithiasis complicated with diabetes mellitus with T-tube. Methods The purpose of this study was to select a total of 240 patients with hepatolithiasis complicated with diabetes with T-tube from June to September 2019 in a Third-class Grade A hospital in Changsha, Hunan Province. Self-designed general information questionnaire, self-care ability implementation scale (ESCA), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), self-rating depression scale (SDS), and quality of life scale (SF-36) were used to conduct a questionnaire survey. The correlation among self-care ability, psychological status, and quality of life of patients with hepatolithiasis complicated with diabetes mellitus with T-tube was analyzed. Results The total score of self-care ability of 240 patients with hepatolithiasis combined with diabetes with T-tube was positively correlated with the total score of quality of life ( p < 0.05). The standard scores of anxiety and depression were negatively correlated with the total score of quality of life ( p < 0.05). The total score of self-care ability was negatively correlated with the standard score of anxiety and depression ( p < 0.05). Conclusion Improving the self-care ability of patients with hepatolithiasis complicated with diabetes with T-tube and improving their anxiety and depression can improve their quality of life, which provides reference for further study.

Development and psychometric evaluation of the catheter assessment, management and performance (CAMP) scale for nurses

Abstract:Aim: To develop and test the psychometric properties of a self-administered scale to assess the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviour of nurses to support the self-management of patients living with indwelling urinary catheters. Background: Nurses are pivotal in supporting patients with urinary catheter self-management to prevent potentially avoidable hospital presentations. However, no validated scale is available to assess nurses' attitudes and readiness for this task. Design: A quasi-experimental design was used to collect survey data both at baseline and after the completion of the intervention. A total of 128 participants were recruited from the Western Sydney region (New South Wales, Australia), who were working in community healthcare settings. Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap™) database was used to manage the survey data collected for data analysis purposes. This study has been registered with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN126210 0 0683831) METHODS: Using a three-stage process of concept identification, item construction and pilot testing to develop the Catheter Assessment, Management and Performance (CAMP) scale, followed by factorial and discriminant validity and reliability testing. This 23-item CAMP scale is theoretically informed by the COM-B (Capability, Opportunity, Motivation-Behaviour) model, recognised for its effectiveness in understanding and influencing behaviour change. The scale was distributed to nurses working in three community health care settings to assess their knowledge, attitude and behaviour regarding catheter management and performance. Results: Four factors were identified using scree plot, accounting for 63.36 % of total explained variance, which reflected the four dimensions of the COM-B model. Cronbach's alpha of the overall CAMP scale (0.93) and subscales (0.92, 0.87, 0.85 and 0.86) indicate good internal consistencies. The CAMP scale was able to detect changes in nurses' self-reported behaviour change following educational intervention (85.53 versus 95.98, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The CAMP scale is valid and reliable scale, capable of assessing nurses' capability, opportunity and motivation to support patients, through delivery of catheter self-management education that can potentially prevent catheter-related complications and avoid hospital presentations. Future research could explore using CAMP scale among non-specialist nurses and in various clinical settings to enhance its effectiveness and generalisability.
Knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding stone formation and recurrence among urolithiasis patients: a cross-sectional study

Abstract:This study investigated the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) concerning stone formation and recurrence among patients with urolithiasis treated at Ningbo Medical Centre Lihuili Hospital between August 19, 2023, and April 19, 2024. A total of 394 patients were included, among which 70.30% were males. The median scores for knowledge, attitude, and practice were 7 (6-8.25), 29 (26.75-31), and 21.5 (18–25), respectively, indicating good knowledge and attitude but suboptimal practice. Positive correlations were found between knowledge and attitude ( r = 0.274, P < 0.001) and between attitude and practice ( r = 0.126, P < 0.05). Logistic regression revealed that knowledge, education, and whether the patient experienced a new or recurrent stone were independent predictors of attitude. Attitude, education, body mass index (BMI), and daily water intake were independent predictors of practice. Structural equation modeling (SEM) showed that knowledge, family history, and education directly influenced attitude, while education also significantly impacted practice. Our findings highlight the need for targeted diet, hydration, and lifestyle education to enhance preventive practices among patients with urolithiasis.
