Abstract:Purpose Artificial Intelligence is being applied in oncology to improve patient and service outcomes. Yet, there is a limited understanding of how these advanced computational techniques are employed in cancer nursing to inform clinical practice. This review aimed to identify and synthesise evidence on artificial intelligence in cancer nursing. Methods CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and PubMed were searched using key terms between January 2010 and December 2022. Titles, abstracts, and then full texts were screened against eligibility criteria, resulting in twenty studies being included. Critical appraisal was undertaken, and relevant data extracted and analysed. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. Results Artificial intelligence was used in numerous areas including breast, colorectal, liver, and ovarian cancer care among others. Algorithms were trained and tested on primary and secondary datasets to build predictive models of health problems related to cancer. Studies reported this led to improvements in the accuracy of predicting health outcomes or identifying variables that improved outcome prediction. While nurses led most studies, few deployed an artificial intelligence based digital tool with cancer nurses in a real-world setting as studies largely focused on developing and validating predictive models. Conclusion Electronic cancer nursing datasets should be established to enable artificial intelligence techniques to be tested and if effective implemented in digital prediction and other AI-based tools. Cancer nurses need more education on machine learning and natural language processing, so they can lead and contribute to artificial intelligence developments in oncology.

Abstract:ObjectiveThe objectives of this systematic review are to describe features and specific application scenarios for current cancer survivorship care services of Artificial intelligence (AI)-driven digital health technologies (DHTs) and to explore the acceptance and briefly evaluate its feasibility in the application process.MethodsSearch for literatures published from 2010 to 2022 on sites MEDLINE, IEEE-Xplor, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and Scopus systematically. The types of literatures include original research, descriptive study, randomized controlled trial, pilot study, and feasible or acceptable study. The literatures above described current status and effectiveness of digital medical technologies based on AI and used in cancer survivorship care services. Additionally, we use QuADS quality assessment tool to evaluate the quality of literatures included in this review.Results43 studies that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed and qualitatively synthesized. The current status and results related to the application of AI-driven DHTs in cancer survivorship care were reviewed. Most of these studies were designed specifically for breast cancer survivors’ care and focused on the areas of recurrence or secondary cancer prediction, clinical decision support, cancer survivability prediction, population or treatment stratified, anti-cancer treatment-induced adverse reaction prediction, and so on. Applying AI-based DHTs to cancer survivors actually has shown some positive outcomes, including increased motivation of patient-reported outcomes (PROs), reduce fatigue and pain levels, improved quality of life, and physical function. However, current research mostly explored the technology development and formation (testing) phases, with limited-scale population, and single-center trial. Therefore, it is not suitable to draw conclusions that the effectiveness of AI-based DHTs in supportive cancer care, as most of applications are still in the early stage of development and feasibility testing.ConclusionsWhile digital therapies are promising in the care of cancer patients, more high-quality studies are still needed in the future to demonstrate the effectiveness of digital therapies in cancer care. Studies should explore how to develop uniform standards for measuring patient-related outcomes, ensure the scientific validity of research methods, and emphasize patient and health practitioner involvement in the development and use of technology.

Abstract:e13642 Background: Artificial Intelligence (AI) allows machines to analyze data in a way that mimics human intelligence. AI has been used in oncology diagnostics such as radiology and pathology. However, the specific processes and tasks that AI can support, especially in oncology, have not been fully explored. Methods: The electronic databases PubMed and MEDLINE were searched from September 1, 2018, to September 1, 2023, for publications related to the use of AI in oncology. Inclusion criteria consisted of English language, article type “study” and keywords Artificial Intelligence, Healthcare, Predictive/Prediction, Fever, Cytokine Release Syndrome, Nursing, Patient Care, Oncology, and Neutropenic Fever applied in a progressive manner to narrow the search. Results: The term Artificial Intelligence yielded over 124,385 studies. This number was reduced to 466 when adding “healthcare, predictive/prediction, and oncology.” Adding “patient care” further reduced the number to 102. Out of the 102, seven studies identified included the term “nursing” and focused on clinician decision support, readmissions, palliative care, and scheduling. One identified study discussed the potential benefits of AI-generated algorithms for risk stratification related to cytokine release syndrome. The keywords “neutropenic fever” did not generate any results. Six studies were identified by adding in the term “fever,” which focused on AI use in specialties outside of oncology. The literature reviewed shows that AI has had limited use in oncology outside of radiology and pathology. Only one study suggested the use of AI would be beneficial in predicting symptoms related to treatment. Small studies were identified showing the value of AI in increasing adherence to schedules, reducing readmissions, and providing precision medicine. Conclusions: AI is a promising tool for the future of oncology. The current availability of AI within oncology practices has been limited. Further studies should be undertaken to identify how AI can reduce provider burnout, care costs, and early identification of symptoms to prevent adverse events.

Abstract:Background: Rapid advances in science challenge the timely adoption of evidence-based care in community settings. To bridge the gap between what is possible and what is practiced, we researched approaches to developing an artificial intelligence (AI) application that can provide real-time patient-specific decision support. Materials and methods: The Oncology Expert Advisor (OEA) was designed to simulate peer-to-peer consultation with three core functions: patient history summarization, treatment options recommendation, and management advisory. Machine-learning algorithms were trained to construct a dynamic summary of patients cancer history and to suggest approved therapy or investigative trial options. All patient data used were retrospectively accrued. Ground truth was established for approximately 1,000 unique patients. The full Medline database of more than 23 million published abstracts was used as the literature corpus. Results: OEA's accuracies of searching disparate sources within electronic medical records to extract complex clinical concepts from unstructured text documents varied, with F1 scores of 90%-96% for non-time-dependent concepts (e.g., diagnosis) and F1 scores of 63%-65% for time-dependent concepts (e.g., therapy history timeline). Based on constructed patient profiles, OEA suggests approved therapy options linked to supporting evidence (99.9% recall; 88% precision), and screens for eligible clinical trials on ClinicalTrials.gov (97.9% recall; 96.9% precision). Conclusion: Our results demonstrated technical feasibility of an AI-powered application to construct longitudinal patient profiles in context and to suggest evidence-based treatment and trial options. Our experience highlighted the necessity of collaboration across clinical and AI domains, and the requirement of clinical expertise throughout the process, from design to training to testing. Implications for practice: Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered digital advisors such as the Oncology Expert Advisor have the potential to augment the capacity and update the knowledge base of practicing oncologists. By constructing dynamic patient profiles from disparate data sources and organizing and vetting vast literature for relevance to a specific patient, such AI applications could empower oncologists to consider all therapy options based on the latest scientific evidence for their patients, and help them spend less time on information "hunting and gathering" and more time with the patients. However, realization of this will require not only AI technology maturation but also active participation and leadership by clincial experts.

Abstract:e13622 Background: Traditional methods for capturing patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are often time-consuming and may lead to underreporting of symptoms by physicians. With advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4, there is potential to revolutionize this aspect of patient care. Methods: This study developed and tested a GPT-4-based web application for monitoring cancer treatment toxicity in breast cancer patients. The application utilized 35 items from the PRO-CTCAE scale to create an interactive form for patients to report treatment-related symptoms. Upon form completion, a natural language summary of the patient’s responses was generated using the GPT-4 API for physician review. Nine radiation oncologists (5 attendings, 4 residents) evaluated the summaries of virtual patients using the adapted Physician Documentation Quality Index (PDQI-9). PDQI-9 consists of 9 items scored using a 5-point Likert scale (1 -not at all- to 5. -extremely-). IRB approval was not required because this study did not use real patient data, in accordance with the 2018 Revised Common Rule Requirements of the NIH. All data used were researcher-generated and non-identifiable. Results: The mean time for textual summary generation was 7 (5.7-9.2) seconds. The AI-Symptom Summarization Tool (ASST) mean scores were 4.25 for accuracy and 4 for thoroughness. Usefulness, organization, comprehensibility, concision, synthesis quality and consistency were all rated between 3 and 4. Overall score was 42/50. No hallucinations (false information made up by the LLM) were found. Conclusions: The GPT-4-based application for cancer treatment toxicity monitoring demonstrates significant promise in enhancing the quality and efficiency of patient care. By automating the documentation of patient-reported symptoms, this tool could allow physicians to focus more time on patient interaction and individualized care. As AI technologies continue to evolve, their integration into clinical practice must be approached with caution, emphasizing augmentation over replacement and the importance of verification to maintain trust in these new tools.

Abstract:Background With the accumulation of electronic health records and the development of artificial intelligence, patients with cancer urgently need new evidence of more personalized clinical and demographic characteristics and more sophisticated treatment and prevention strategies. However, no research has systematically analyzed the application and significance of artificial intelligence based on electronic health records in cancer care. Objective The aim of this study was to conduct a review to introduce the current state and limitations of artificial intelligence based on electronic health records of patients with cancer and to summarize the performance of artificial intelligence in mining electronic health records and its impact on cancer care. Methods Three databases were systematically searched to retrieve potentially relevant papers published from January 2009 to October 2020. Four principal reviewers assessed the quality of the papers and reviewed them for eligibility based on the inclusion criteria in the extracted data. The summary measures used in this analysis were the number and frequency of occurrence of the themes. Results Of the 1034 papers considered, 148 papers met the inclusion criteria. Cancer care, especially cancers of female organs and digestive organs, could benefit from artificial intelligence based on electronic health records through cancer emergencies and prognostic estimates, cancer diagnosis and prediction, tumor stage detection, cancer case detection, and treatment pattern recognition. The models can always achieve an area under the curve of 0.7. Ensemble methods and deep learning are on the rise. In addition, electronic medical records in the existing studies are mainly in English and from private institutional databases. Conclusions Artificial intelligence based on electronic health records performed well and could be useful for cancer care. Improving the performance of artificial intelligence can help patients receive more scientific-based and accurate treatments. There is a need for the development of new methods and electronic health record data sharing and for increased passion and support from cancer specialists.

Abstract:e13615 Background: Cancer patients (pts) need extensive primary care across their treatment journey, yet the world's primary health systems struggle with patient volume and resource scarcity. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence (AI) medical service model in primary care and clinical service pre-screening, as well as their potential impact on improving the quality of medical services and reducing medical costs. Methods: A total of 17,856 medical consultation inquiries from 7,522 pts with various types of cancer have been collected and categorized. The study employed a novel AI-driven medical service model (based on large language model), amalgamating clinical guidelines with a local oncology database, to prospectively field questions from 454 cancer-afflicted pts. Clinicians evaluated the accuracy and comprehensiveness of the responses to basic medical issues, while pts assessed the intelligibility and satisfaction. Results: Treatment-related inquiries constituted 34.44% (n = 6,149) of the total, with 81.53% of pts asking such questions. Basic medical issues were addressed in 65.56% (n = 11,707) of inquiries, raised by 59.78% of pts. Specific concerns within basic medical issues included test report explanations (20.45%), adverse reaction consultations (19.82%), and medication information requests (17.66%). In light of the prevalence of basic medical issues, the study prospectively explores the potential of AI technology to revolutionize medical models, driving the advent of a new era in healthcare research. As result, the AI model exhibited high performance across several metrics: accuracy (96.87 ± 10.29), comprehensiveness (97.40 ± 9.91), intelligibility (95.72 ± 12.62), and satisfaction (96.34 ± 11.03). Notably, the model demonstrated a proficiency in identifying queries necessitating physician expertise, with a 95.60% accuracy rate upon review. A survey of 50 outpatients indicated an enhancement in service speed (7.78%) and patient satisfaction (14.29%). This increase in satisfaction was primarily ascribed to pts' heightened sense of control and safety. When benchmarked against GPT-4, the AI model's overall performance was significantly superior (95.08 ± 10.05 vs 89.70 ± 12.85, p<0.01), particularly in domestic drug knowledge and gene report analysis. Conclusions: Largely fueled by the advanced capabilities of large language model, AI has the potential to profoundly reshape the entire patient care journey. Our AI medical service model efficiently meets key healthcare needs, addressing over half of clinical issues and cutting costs. It also guides pts to the right specialists for timely care. Early surveys indicate better primary care and improved doctor-patient relations. Further research is needed to understand AI's effects on fairness, access, and outcomes across varied demographic and socioeconomic strata.

Abstract:The profiles of C-II apolipoprotein (apo C-II) or apo C-III were determined in ten normal full-term female neonates and ten healthy adult females, to characterize the distribution of apo C in umbilical cord blood (UCB). The profiles of the distribution of apo C were electrophoretically obtained. After agarose gel-immunofixation electrophoresis using anti-apo C-II or anti-apo C-III antisera, the immune complexes of apo C-II or apo C-III selectively remained in the gels by salting out the non-immunoreacted proteins and were stained to be measured by the densitometry. So, apo C in high density lipoprotein (HDL) were satisfactorily separated from apo C in apo B-containing lipoproteins (LPcB). The apolipoproteins levels in mg/dl +/- SD for all UCB were; apo A-I = 84.4 +/- 11.8; apo A-II = 17.8 +/- 5.9; apo B = 14.0 +/- 4.2; apo C-II = 2.4 +/- 0.4; apo C-III = 3.6 +/- 0.9; apo E = 3.7 +/- 1.2, and these values were, respectively, 62.5%, 55.3%, 15.9%, 68.6%, 48.0% and 90.2% of the values obtained in adult blood. Apo C profiles in UCB were characterized by the distributions of the majority of apo C to HDL, in the same manner as the distribution of apo E, and were similar to the apo C profiles acquired from adult patients with hypo-beta lipoproteinemias. The percentages of apo C-II and apo C-III in umbilical HDL to total apo C-II and total apo C-III were high, 90.3% and 91.8%, compared to the adult HDL levels of 52.4% and 51.5%, respectively.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract:Background: Providing appropriate specialized treatment to the right patient at the right time is considered necessary in cancer management. Targeted therapy tailored to the genetic changes of each breast cancer patient is a desirable feature of precision oncology, which can not only reduce disease progression but also potentially increase patient survival. The use of artificial intelligence alongside precision oncology can help physicians by identifying and selecting more effective treatment factors for patients. Method: A systematic review was conducted using the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases in September 2023. We performed the search strategy with keywords, namely: Breast Cancer, Artificial intelligence, and precision Oncology along with their synonyms in the article titles. Descriptive, qualitative, review, and non-English studies were excluded. The quality assessment of the articles and evaluation of bias were determined based on the SJR journal and JBI indices, as well as the PRISMA2020 guideline. Results: Forty-six studies were selected that focused on personalized breast cancer management using artificial intelligence models. Seventeen studies using various deep learning methods achieved a satisfactory outcome in predicting treatment response and prognosis, contributing to personalized breast cancer management. Two studies utilizing neural networks and clustering provided acceptable indicators for predicting patient survival and categorizing breast tumors. One study employed transfer learning to predict treatment response. Twenty-six studies utilizing machine-learning methods demonstrated that these techniques can improve breast cancer classification, screening, diagnosis, and prognosis. The most frequent modeling techniques used were NB, SVM, RF, XGBoost, and Reinforcement Learning. The average area under the curve (AUC) for the models was 0.91. Moreover, the average values for accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and precision were reported to be in the range of 90-96% for the models. Conclusion: Artificial intelligence has proven to be effective in assisting physicians and researchers in managing breast cancer treatment by uncovering hidden patterns in complex omics and genetic data. Intelligent processing of omics data through protein and gene pattern classification and the utilization of deep neural patterns has the potential to significantly transform the field of complex disease management.

Abstract:Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the management of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by enhancing different aspects, including staging, prognosis assessment, treatment prediction, response evaluation, recurrence/prognosis prediction, and personalized prognostic assessment. AI algorithms may accurately classify NSCLC stages using machine learning techniques and deep imaging data analysis. This could potentially improve precision and efficiency in staging, facilitating personalized treatment decisions. Furthermore, there are data suggesting the potential application of AI-based models in predicting prognosis in terms of survival rates and disease progression by integrating clinical, imaging and molecular data. In the present narrative review, we will analyze the preliminary studies reporting on how AI algorithms could predict responses to various treatment modalities, such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. There is robust evidence suggesting that AI also plays a crucial role in predicting the likelihood of tumor recurrence after surgery and the pattern of failure, which has significant implications for tailoring adjuvant treatments. The successful implementation of AI in personalized prognostic assessment requires the integration of different data sources, including clinical, molecular, and imaging data. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques enable AI models to analyze these data and generate personalized prognostic predictions, allowing for a precise and individualized approach to patient care. However, challenges relating to data quality, interpretability, and the ability of AI models to generalize need to be addressed. Collaboration among clinicians, data scientists, and regulators is critical for the responsible implementation of AI and for maximizing its benefits in providing a more personalized prognostic assessment. Continued research, validation, and collaboration are essential to fully exploit the potential of AI in NSCLC management and improve patient outcomes. Herein, we have summarized the state of the art of applications of AI in lung cancer for predicting staging, prognosis, and pattern of recurrence after treatment in order to provide to the readers a large comprehensive overview of this challenging issue.

Abstract:Abstract Several factors, including advances in computational algorithms, the availability of high-performance computing hardware, and the assembly of large community-based databases, have led to the extensive application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the biomedical domain for nearly 20 years. AI algorithms have attained expert-level performance in cancer research. However, only a few AI-based applications have been approved for use in the real world. Whether AI will eventually be capable of replacing medical experts has been a hot topic. In this article, we first summarize the cancer research status using AI in the past two decades, including the consensus on the procedure of AI based on an ideal paradigm and current efforts of the expertise and domain knowledge. Next, the available data of AI process in the biomedical domain are surveyed. Then, we review the methods and applications of AI in cancer clinical research categorized by the data types including radiographic imaging, cancer genome, medical records, drug information and biomedical literatures. At last, we discuss challenges in moving AI from theoretical research to real-world cancer research applications and the perspectives toward the future realization of AI participating cancer treatment.

Abstract:Purpose: Despite suffering from the same disease, each patient exhibits a distinct microbiological profile and variable reactivity to prescribed treatments. Most doctors typically use a standardized treatment approach for all patients suffering from a specific disease. Consequently, the challenge lies in the effectiveness of this standardized treatment and in adapting it to each individual patient. Personalized medicine is an emerging field in which doctors use diagnostic tests to identify the most effective medical treatments for each patient. Prognosis, disease monitoring, and treatment planning rely on manual, error-prone methods. Artificial intelligence (AI) uses predictive techniques capable of automating prognostic and monitoring processes, thus reducing the error rate associated with conventional methods. Methods: This paper conducts an analysis of current literature, encompassing the period from January 2015 to 2023, based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Results: In assessing 25 pertinent studies concerning predicting neoadjuvant treatment (NAT) response in breast cancer (BC) patients, the studies explored various imaging modalities (Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, etc.), evaluating results based on accuracy, sensitivity, and area under the curve. Additionally, the technologies employed, such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), statistics, and hybrid models, were scrutinized. The presentation of datasets used for predicting complete pathological response (PCR) was also considered. Conclusion: This paper seeks to unveil crucial insights into the application of AI techniques in personalized oncology, particularly in the monitoring and prediction of responses to NAT for BC patients. Finally, the authors suggest avenues for future research into AI-based monitoring systems.

Abstract:This publication presents a solution approach to oncological aftercare for cancer patients by means of artificial intelligence (AI) methods. This approach shall support patients in overcoming the after-effects of therapy effectively with suitable supportive actions and health-care professionals in goal-oriented planning of these actions. Different AI methods are used for analyzing patients' needs for supportive actions depending on the available health data and for a monitoring of these actions. Decision support methods are used for effective planning of actions based on the AI results of analysis. The solution approach is realized in the form of a web application for health-care professionals, which allows for data analysis and planning of actions, and a mobile application for patients, which facilitates documentation and monitoring of supportive actions. In combination, they facilitate a closed-loop workflow for the effective cooperation of health-care professionals and cancer patients. The solution approach is illustrated for an exemplary case scenario of colorectal cancer.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Artificial Intelligence in Predicting Adverse Drug Reactions among Cancer Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Adverse drug reactions considerably impact patient outcomes and healthcare costs in cancer therapy. Using artificial intelligence to predict adverse drug reactions in real time could revolutionize oncology treatment. This study aims to assess the performance of artificial intelligence models in predicting adverse drug reactions in patients with cancer. This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis. Scopus, PubMed, IEEE Xplore, and ACM Digital Library databases were searched for studies in English, French, and Arabic from January 1, 2018, to August 20, 2023. The inclusion criteria were: (1) peer-reviewed research articles; (2) use of artificial intelligence algorithms (machine learning, deep learning, knowledge graphs); (3) study aimed to predict adverse drug reactions (cardiotoxicity, neutropenia, nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity); (4) study was on cancer patients. The data were extracted and evaluated by three reviewers for study quality. Of the 332 screened articles, 17 studies (5%) involving 93,248 oncology patients from 17 countries were included in the systematic review, of which ten studies synthesized the meta-analysis. A random-effects model was created to pool the sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of the included studies. The pooled results were 0.82 (95% CI:0.69, 0.9), 0.84 (95% CI:0.75, 0.9), and 0.83 (95% CI:0.77, 0.87) for sensitivity, specificity, and AUC, respectively, of ADR predictive models. Biomarkers proved their effectiveness in predicting ADRs, yet they were adopted by only half of the reviewed studies. The use of AI in cancer treatment shows great potential, with models demonstrating high specificity and sensitivity in predicting ADRs. However, standardized research and multicenter studies are needed to improve the quality of evidence. AI can enhance cancer patient care by bridging the gap between data-driven insights and clinical expertise.

Abstract:Objective:This study aimed to summarize the characteristics and methodological quality of systematic reviews on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical diagnosis and treatment.Methods:We systematically searched seven English- and Chinese-language literature databases to identify systematic reviews on the application of AI, deep learning, or machine learning in the diagnosis and treatment of any disease published in 2020. We evaluated the methodological quality of the included systematic reviews using "A Measurement tool for the assessment of multiple systematic reviews" (AMSTAR). We also conducted meta-analyses on the diagnostic accuracy of AI on selected disease categories with a large number of included studies and low clinical heterogeneity.Results:A total of 40 systematic reviews reporting 1,083 original studies were included, covering 31 diseases from 11 groups of diseases. Eleven systematic reviews were related to neoplasms and nine were systematic reviews related to diseases of the digestive system. We selected digestive system diseases for the meta-analysis. The pooled sensitivities (with 95% confidence interval (CI)) of AI to assist the diagnosis of helicobacter pylori, gastrointestinal ulcers, hemorrhage, esophageal tumors, gastric tumors, and intestinal tumors (with 95% CI) were 0.91 (0.83-0.95), 0.99 (0.76-1.00), 0.95 (0.83-0.99), 0.90 (0.85-0.93), 0.90 (0.82-0.95), and 0.93 (0.88-0.96), respectively, and the pooled specificities were 0.82 (0.77-0.87), 0.97 (0.86-1.00), 1.00 (0.99-1.00), 0.80 (0.71-0.87), 0.93 (0.87-0.97), and 0.89 (0.85-0.92), respectively. The AMSTAR items "the list of included studies" ( n = 39, 97.5%) and "the characteristics of the included studies" ( n = 39, 97.5%) had the highest compliance among the reviews; the compliance was relatively low to the items "the consideration of publication status" ( n = 1, 2.5%), "the consideration of scientific quality" ( n = 19, 47.5%), "data synthesis methods" ( n = 18, 45.0%), and " the evaluation of publication bias" ( n = 13, 32.5%). Conclusions:The main subjects of systematic reviews on AI applications in clinical diagnosis and treatment published in 2020 were diseases of the digestive system and neoplasms. The methodological quality of the systematic reviews on AI needs to be improved, paying particular attention to publication bias and the rigorous evaluation of the quality of the included studies.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in the healthcare industry, leveraging intricate pattern recognition in medical data to enhance the precision, efficacy, quality, and accuracy of radiation treatment for cancer patients. AI finds application across various critical areas in healthcare, including neurology, cardiology, and oncology, utilizing both structured and unstructured healthcare data. Its roles extend to early detection, diagnosis, treatment, outcome prediction, and prognosis evaluation, particularly in the context of cancer. Despite the potential benefits, integrating AI into clinical practice in radiation oncology faces obstacles that must be overcome. The incorporation of AI, particularly machine learning and deep learning, into clinical cancer research has significantly improved predictive performance. This review explores the literature on the application of AI in cancer diagnosis and prognosis, emphasizing the inherent advantages it offers. While recognizing the importance of rigorous validation, the studies highlight ongoing efforts to integrate AI technology into clinical settings, shaping the future of cancer care. Abstract:Introduction: Artificial intelligence has come to be the highlight in almost all fields of science. It uses various models and algorithms to detect patterns and specific findings to diagnose a disease with utmost accuracy. With the increasing need for accurate and precise diagnosis of disease, employing artificial intelligence models and concepts in healthcare setup can be beneficial. Methodology: The search engines and databases employed in this study are PubMed, ScienceDirect and Medline. Studies published between 1st January 2013 to 1st February 2023 were included in this analysis. The selected articles were screened preliminarily using the Rayyan web tool, after which investigators screened the selected articles individually. The risk of bias for the selected studies was assessed using QUADAS-2 tool specially designed to test bias among studies related to diagnostic test reviews. Results: In this review, 17 studies were included from a total of 12,173 studies. These studies were analysed for their sensitivity, accuracy, positive predictive value, specificity and negative predictive value in diagnosing barrette's neoplasia, cardiac arrest, esophageal adenocarcinoma, sepsis and gastrointestinal stromal tumors. All the studies reported heterogeneity with p-value <0.05 at confidence interval 95%. Conclusion: The existing evidential data suggests that artificial intelligence can be highly helpful in the field of diagnosis providing maximum precision and early detection. This helps to prevent disease progression and also helps to provide treatment at the earliest. Employing artificial intelligence in diagnosis will define the advancement of health care environment and also be beneficial in every aspect concerned with treatment to illnesses.
