Abstract:Hyperlipidemia is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The transcriptomic data and the gene regulatory networks of hyperlipidemia are largely unclear. We analyzed the changes in liver gene expression and the serum levels of biochemical indicators in rats with hyperlipidemia induced by high-fat diet (HFD). The body weight, liver weight, and the serum levels of TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, ALT, and AST were significantly higher in the hyperlipidemic rats compared to the healthy controls ( P < 0.05). In addition, HFD feeding decreased the antioxidant capacity of the liver tissues and significantly increased the arteriosclerosis index (AI) ( P < 0.05). There were 584 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the hyperlipidemia model compared to the control, with |log2FC|≥ 1 and P-adjust ≤ 0.05 as the thresholds. GO analysis of the DEGs revealed significant enrichment of 382 biological processes (BP), 18 cellular components (CC), and 40 molecular functions (MF). In addition, pathways related to bile secretion, cholesterol metabolism, and steroid hormone biosynthesis were significantly associated with hyperlipidemia. The key genes potentially involved in the blood lipid changes were Agt, Src, Gnai3, Cyp2c7, Cyp2c11, Cyp2c22, Apoa1, Apoe, and Srebf1. The genes and pathways identified in this study are potential intervention targets for hyperlipidemia and warrant further investigation.

Abstract:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has emerged as a common public health problem that can progress to end-stage liver disease. A high-fat diet (HFD) may promote the development of NAFLD through a mechanism that is poorly understood. We adopted a proteomic approach to examine the effect of HFD on the liver proteome during the progression of NAFLD. Male Sprague-Dawley rats fed an HFD for 4, 12, and 24 weeks replicated the progression of human NAFLD: steatosis, nonspecific inflammation, and steatohepatitis. Using two-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis (DIGE) combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight/time of flight analysis, 95 proteins exhibiting significant changes (ratio >= 1.5 or <=-1.5, P < 0.05) during the development of NAFLD were identified. Biological functions for these proteins reflected phase-specific characteristics during the progression of the disease. The potential role of enoyl coenzyme A hydratase (ECHS1), an enzyme that catalyzes the second step of mitochondrial fatty acid beta-oxidation, received further investigation. First, the reduced protein level of ECHS1 was validated both in rat models and in patients with biopsy-proven hepatic simple steatosis via immunoblotting or immunohistochemical analysis. Then the small interfering RNA (siRNA) mediated knockdown of ECHS1 in the murine hepatocyte cell line alpha mouse liver 12 (AML12) demonstrated increased cellular lipid accumulation induced by free fatty acid (FFA) overload. Furthermore, using a hydradynamic transfection method, the in vivo silencing effect of siRNA duplexes targeting ECHS1 was further investigated in mice. Administering ECHS1 siRNA specifically reduced the expression of ECHS1 protein in mice liver, which significantly exacerbated the hepatic steatosis induced by an HFD. Conclusion: Our results revealed that ECHS1 down-regulation contributed to HFD-induced hepatic steatosis, which may help clarify the pathogenesis of NAFLD and point to potential targets for therapeutic interventions. Abstract:Along with the increasing prevalence of obesity worldwide, the deleterious effects of high-calorie diet are gradually recognized through more and more epidemiological studies. However, the concealed and chronic causality whitewashes its unhealthy character. Given an ingenious mechanism orchestrates the metabolic adaptation to high-fat high-fructose (HFF) diet and connive its lipotoxicity, in this study, an experimental rat/mouse model of obesity was induced and a comparative transcriptomic analysis was performed to probe the mystery. Our results demonstrated that HFF diet consumption altered the transcriptomic pattern as well as different high-calorie diet fed rat/mouse manifested distinct hepatic transcriptome. Validation with RT-qPCR and Western blotting confirmed that SREBP1-FASN involved in de novo lipogenesis partly mediated metabolic self-adaption. Moreover, hepatic ACSL1-CPT1A-CPT2 pathway involved in fatty acids β-oxidation, played a key role in the metabolic adaption to HFF. Collectively, our findings enrich the knowledge of the chronic adaptation mechanisms and also shed light on future investigations. Meanwhile, our results also suggest that efforts to restore the fatty acids metabolic fate could be a promising avenue to fight against obesity and associated steatosis and insulin resistance challenged by HFF diet.

Analysis of Metabolite Distribution in Rat Liver of High-Fat Model by Mass Spectrometry Imaging

Abstract:Hyperlipidemia is a medical condition characterized by elevated levels of blood lipids, especially triglycerides (TG). However, it remains unclear whether TG levels remain consistently elevated throughout the entire developmental stage of the high-lipid state. In our animal experiment, we found that TG levels were significantly higher in the early stage of the high-lipid model but significantly decreased at the 14th week of the late stage, reaching levels similar to those of the control group. This suggests that TG levels in the high-lipid model are not always higher than those of the control group. To determine the reason for this observation, we used in situ mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) to detect the distribution of metabolites in the liver of rats. The metabolite distribution of the control rats at different stages was significantly different from that of the model rats, and the high-lipid model differed significantly from the control rats. We identified nine functional metabolites that showed differences throughout the period, namely, PA(20:3-OH/i-21:0), PA(20:4-OH/22:6), PG(20:5-OH/i-16:0), PG(22:6-2OH/i-13:0), PG(O-18:0/20:4), PGP(18:3-OH/i-12:0), PGP(PGJ2/i-15:0), SM(d18:0/18:1-2OH), and TG(14:0/14:0/16:0), among which TG was most significantly correlated with hyperlipidemia and high lipid. This study is unique in that it used MSI to reveal the changes in metabolites in situ, showing the distribution of different metabolites or the same metabolite in liver tissue. The findings highlight the importance of considering the animal's age when using TG as a biomarker for hyperlipidemia. Additionally, the MSI images of the liver in the high-lipid model clearly indicated the distribution and differences of more significant metabolites, providing valuable data for further research into new biomarkers and mechanisms of hyperlipidemia. This new pathway of in situ, visualized, and data-rich metabolomics research provides a more comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of high lipid and its implications for disease prevention and treatment.

Metabonomic Changes Associated with Atherosclerosis Progression for LDLR(-/-) Mice.

Abstract:Atherosclerosis resulting from hyperlipidemia causes many serious cardiovascular diseases. To understand the systems changes associated with pathogenesis and progression of atherosclerosis, we comprehensively analyzed the dynamic metabonomic changes in multiple biological matrices of LDLR-/- mice using NMR and GC-FID/MS with gene expression, clinical chemistry, and histopathological data as well. We found that 12 week "Western-type" diet (WD) treatment caused obvious aortic lesions, macrophage infiltration, and collagen level elevation in LDLR-/- mice accompanied by up-regulation of inflammatory factors including aortic ICAM-1, MCP-1, iNOS, MMP2, and hepatic TNF alpha and IL-beta. The WD-induced atherosclerosis progression was accompanied by metabonomic changes in multiple matrices including biofluids (plasma, urine) and (liver, kidney, myocardial) tissues involving multiple metabolic pathways. These included disruption of cholesterol homeostasis, disturbance of biosynthesis of amino acids and proteins, altered gut microbiota functions together with metabolisms of vitamin-B-3, choline, purines, and pyrimidines. WD treatment caused down-regulation of SCD1 and promoted oxidative stress reflected by urinary allantoin elevation and decreases in hepatic PUFA-to-MUFA ratio. When switching to normal diet, atherosclerotic LDLR-/- mice reprogrammed their metabolisms and reversed the atherosclerosis-associated metabonomic changes to a large extent, although aortic lesions, inflammation parameters, macrophage infiltration, and collagen content were only partially alleviated. We concluded that metabolisms of fatty acids and vitamin-B-3 together with gut microbiota played crucially important roles in atherosclerosis development. These findings offered essential biochemistry details of the diet-induced atherosclerosis and demonstrated effectiveness of the integrated metabonomic analysis of multiple biological matrices for understanding the molecular aspects of cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract:Hyperlipidemia is a chronic disease that seriously affects human health. Due to the fact that traditional animal models cannot fully mimic hyperlipidemia in humans, new animal models are urgently needed for basic drug research on hyperlipidemia. Previous studies have demonstrated that the genomic diversity of the wild mice chromosome 1 substitution lines was significantly different from that of laboratory mice, suggesting that it might be accompanied by phenotypic diversity. We first screened the blood lipid-related phenotype of chromosome 1 substitution lines. We found that the male HFD-fed B6-Chr1BLD mice showed more severe hyperlipidemia-related phenotypes in body weight, lipid metabolism and liver lesions. By RNA sequencing and whole-genome sequencing results of B6-Chr1BLD, we found that several differentially expressed single nucleotide polymorphism enriched genes were associated with lipid metabolism-related pathways. Lipid metabolism-related genes, mainly including Aida, Soat1, Scly and Ildr2, might play an initial and upstream role in the abnormal metabolic phenotype of male B6-Chr1BLD mice. Taken together, male B6-Chr1BLD mice could serve as a novel, polygenic interaction-based hyperlipidemia model. This study could provide a novel animal model for accurate clinical diagnosis and precise medicine of hyperlipidemia.

Abstract:The low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) plays a critical role in the liver for the clearance of plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Its deficiency causes hypercholesterolemia in many models. To facilitate the usage of rats as animal models for the discovery of cholesterol-lowering drugs, we took a genetic approach to delete the LDLR in rats aiming to increase plasma LDL cholesterol (LDL-C). An LDLR knockout rat was generated via zinc-finger nuclease technology, which harbors a 19-basepair deletion in the seventh exon of the ldlr gene. As expected, deletion of the LDLR elevated total cholesterol and total triglyceride in the plasma, and caused a tenfold increase of plasma LDL-C and a fourfold increase of plasma very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL-C). A lipidomics analysis revealed that deletion of the LDLR affected hepatic lipid metabolism, particularly lysophosphatidylcholines, free fatty acids and sphingolipids in the liver. Cholesterol ester (CE) 20:4 also displayed a significant increase in the LDLR knockout rats. Taken together, the LDLR knockout rat offers a new model of hypercholesterolemia, and the lipidomics analysis reveals hepatic lipid signatures associating with deficiency of the LDL receptor.
Expression Profiling of Hepatic Genes Associated with Lipid Metabolism in Nephrotic Rats

Abstract:Hyperlipidemia is one of the major features of nephrotic syndrome (NS). Although many factors have been implicated in the pathogenesis of NS-related dyslipidemia, the underlying mechanisms remain largely uncharacterized. The present study was designed to examine the gene profile associated with lipid metabolism in the livers of nephrotic rats. NS was created in male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 6) receiving sequential intraperitoneal injections of puromycin aminonucleoside. Analysis by Affymetrix assay, quantitative RT-PCR, and Northern and Western blotting revealed 21 genes associated with cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism. Eight genes involved in cholesterol metabolism, Apo A-I, Acly, Acat, Mpd, Fdps, Ss, Lss, and Nsdhl, were significantly upregulated under NS. Four genes involved in fatty acid biosynthesis, Acc, FAS, ELOVL 2, and ELOVL6, and three critical for triglyceride biosynthesis, Gpam, Agpat 3, and Dgat 1, were significantly upregulated, whereas two genes involved in fatty acid oxidation, Dci and MCAD, were downregulated. Expression of several genes in sterol-regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)-1 activation was also aberrantly altered in nephrotic livers. The expression and transcriptional activity of SREBP-1 but not SREBP-2 were increased in nephrotic rats as assessed by real-time PCR, immunoblotting, and gel shift assays. The upregulation of hepatic genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis may play an important role in the pathogenesis of hypercholesterolemia, whereas upregulation of genes participating in hepatic fatty acid and triglyceride biosynthesis and downregulation of genes involved in hepatic fatty acid oxidation may contribute to hypertriglyceridemia in nephrotic rats. Activation of SREBP-1 transcription factor may represent an underlying molecular mechanism of hyperlipidemia in NS.
Cell-specific distribution of progesterone receptors in the bovine ovary.

Abstract:This study describes the localization of progesterone receptors (PR) in the bovine ovary. Ovaries were obtained from 11 non-pregnant and two pregnant cows. Progesterone receptors were visualized by immunohistochemistry on paraffin sections. Nuclear staining for PR was observed in cells of the follicles, corpora lutea, theca layers, surface epithelium, tunica albuginea, and in superficial and deep stroma cells. No staining was noticed in apoptotic bodies of atretic follicles. Expression of PR in follicle cells indicates an intrafollicular role of progesterone. The higher expression in thecal cells compared with follicle cells indicates that thecal cells mediate some effects of progesterone on the follicular development. Superficial stroma cells showing high expression might have a similar influence on primordial and primary follicles. In general, luteal cells had a lower expression than follicle cells, which may be explained by the down-regulatory effect of locally produced progesterone. The lower expression in luteal cells during pregnancy can be due to the longer life span of this corpus luteum and concomitant degeneration of its PR. The high and rather constant expression of PR in cells of the surface epithelium remains to be elucidated.

Abstract:Abstract Background Integrating systems biology is an approach for investigating metabolic diseases in humans. However, few studies use this approach to investigate the mechanism by which Rhizoma coptidis (RC) reduces the effect of lipids and glucose on high-fat induced obesity in rats. Methods Twenty-four specific pathogen-free (SPF) male Sprague–Dawley rats (80 ± 10 g) were used in this study. Serum metabolomics were detected by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry. Liver tissue and cecum feces were used for RNA-Seq technology and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, respectively. Results We identified nine potential biomarkers, which are differential metabolites in the Control, Model and RC groups, including linoleic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, arachidonic acid, stearic acid, and L-Alloisoleucine ( p < 0.01). The liver tissue gene expression profile indicated the circadian rhythm pathway was significantly affected by RC (Q ≤ 0.05). A total of 149 and 39 operational taxonomic units (OTUs), which were highly associated with biochemical indicators and potential biomarkers in the cecum samples (FDR ≤ 0.05), respectively, were identified. Conclusion This work provides information to better understand the mechanism of the effect of RC intervention on hyperlipidemia and hypoglycemic effects in obese rats. The present study demonstrates that integrating systems biology may be a powerful tool to reveal the complexity of metabolic diseases in rats intervened by traditional Chinese medicine.

Abstract:Rationale Hypercholesterolemia is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and death. This study performed pseudo‐targeted lipidomics to identify differentially expressed plasma lipids in hypercholesterolemia, to provide a scientific basis for the diagnosis and pathogenesis of hypercholesterolemia. Methods Pseudo‐targeted lipidomic analyses of plasma lipids from 20 patients with hypercholesterolemia and 20 normal control subjects were performed using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. Differentially expressed lipids were identified by principal component analysis and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to identify differentially expressed lipids with high diagnostic value. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway database was used to identify enriched metabolic pathways. Results We identified 13 differentially expressed lipids in hypercholesterolemia using variable importance of projection > 1 and p < 0.05 as threshold parameters. The levels of eight sphingomyelins and cholesterol sulfate were higher and those of three triacylglycerols and lysophosphatidylcholine were reduced in hypercholesterolemia. Seven differentially expressed plasma lipids showed high diagnostic value for hypercholesterolemia. Functional enrichment analyses showed that pathways related to necroptosis, sphingolipid signaling, sphingolipid metabolism, and steroid hormone biosynthesis were enriched. Conclusions This pseudo‐targeted lipidomics study demonstrated that multiple sphingomyelins and cholesterol sulfate were differentially expressed in the plasma of patients with hypercholesterolemia. We also identified seven plasma lipids, including six sphingomyelins and cholesterol sulfate, with high diagnostic value.

Abstract:<p>Hawthorn, a well‐known traditional Chinese medicine is used for treatment of dyspepsia syndrome, cardiovascular disease and hyperlipidemia. Hawthorn has complex composition, therefore, the effective fraction and mechanisms of action in alleviating hyperlipidemia are unknown. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate effects of four different polar components of hawthorn on hyperlipidemia rats, and to explore underlying mechanisms of action through LC‐MS based plasma metabolomics. Hyperlipidemia rat model was established by feeding rats using high‐fat diet. High‐fat model rats were then treated with 4 polar components of hawthorn for 14 consecutive days. Plasma samples were collected and subjected to biochemical and metabolomics analysis. Biochemical analysis showed that hawthorn n‐butanol and ethyl acetate extracts had the highest efficacy on hyperlipidemia rats. Water fraction showed a partial effect, whereas petroleum ether extract was not effective against hyperlipidemia rats. Furthermore, LC‐MS metabolomics analysis showed that the most effective fraction of hawthorn reversed the metabolic disorder in plasma of hyperlipidemia rats. Metabolomics analysis showed that hawthorn exerts its activity by modulating lipid metabolism, energy metabolism, oxidative stress and amino acid metabolism.</p><p>This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Within the context of residual cardiovascular risk in post-statin era, emerging evidence from epidemiologic and human genetic studies have demonstrated that triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins and their remnants are causally related to cardiovascular risk. While, carriers of loss-of-function mutations of ApoC3 have low TG levels and are protected from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Of translational significance, siRNAs/antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) targeting ApoC3 is beneficial for patients with atherosclerotic CVD. Therefore, animal models of atherosclerosis with both hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia are important for the discovery of novel therapeutic strategies targeting TG-lowering on top of traditional cholesterol-lowering. In this study, we constructed a novel mouse model of familial combined hyperlipidemia through inserting a human ApoC3 transgene (hApoC3-Tg) into C57BL/6 J mice and injecting a gain-of-function variant of adeno-associated virus-proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (AAV-PCSK9)-D377Y concurrently with high cholesterol diet (HCD) feeding for 16 weeks. In the last 10 weeks, hApoC3-Tg mice were orally treated with a combination of atorvastatin (10 mg·kg −1 ·d −1 ) and fenofibrate (100 mg·kg −1 ·d −1 ). HCD-treated hApoC3-Tg mice demonstrated elevated levels of serum TG, total cholesterol (TC) and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C). Oral administration of atorvastatin and fenofibrate significantly decreased the plaque sizes of en face aorta, aortic sinus and innominate artery accompanied by improved lipid profile and distribution. In summary, this novel mouse model is of considerable clinical relevance for evaluation of anti-atherosclerotic drugs by targeting both hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia.
Efficacy of Poria cocos and Alismatis rhizoma against diet-induced hyperlipidemia in rats based on transcriptome sequencing analysis

Abstract:Hyperlipidemia, a common metabolic disease, is a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, Poria cocos (PC) and Alismatis rhizoma (AR) serve as a potential treatment. A systematic approach based on transcriptome sequencing analysis and bioinformatics methods was developed to explore the synergistic effects of PC–AR and identify major compounds and potential targets. The phenotypic characteristics results indicated that the high dose (4.54 g/kg) of PC–AR reduced total cholesterol (TC), elevated high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels, and improved hepatocyte morphology, as assessed via hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining. Transcriptomic profiling processing results combined with GO enrichment analysis to identify the overlapping genes were associated with inflammatory responses. The cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathway was found as a potential key pathway using geneset enrichment analysis. Core enrichment targets were selected according to the PC–AR's fold change versus the model. Real-time quantitative PCR analysis validated that PC–AR significantly downregulated the expression of Cxcl10, Ccl2, Ccl4, Cd40 and Il-1β mRNA ( P < 0.05). Molecular docking analysis revealed the significant compounds of PC–AR and the potential binding patterns of the critical compounds and targets. This study provides further evidence that the therapeutic effects of PC–AR on hyperlipidemia in rats through the regulation of inflammation-related targets.

A Murine Model of Hyperlipidemia-Induced Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

Abstract:The pathophysiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) driven by lipotoxicity is incompletely understood. Given the urgent need for animal models that accurately mimic cardio-metabolic HFpEF, a hyperlipidemia-induced murine model was developed by reverse engineering phenotypes seen in HFpEF patients. This model aimed to investigate HFpEF, focusing on the interplay between lipotoxicity and metabolic syndrome. Hyperlipidemia was induced in wild-type (WT) mice on a 129J strain background through bi-weekly intraperitoneal injections of poloxamer-407 (P-407), a block co-polymer that blocks lipoprotein lipase, combined with a single intravenous injection of adeno-associated virus 9-cardiac troponin T-low-density lipoprotein receptor (AAV9-cTnT-LDLR). Extensive assessments were conducted between 4 and 8 weeks post-treatment, including echocardiography, blood pressure recording, whole-body plethysmography, echocardiography (ECG) telemetry, activity wheel monitoring (AWM), and biochemical and histological analyses. The LDLR/P-407 mice exhibited distinctive features at four weeks, including diastolic dysfunction, preserved ejection fraction, and increased left ventricular wall thickness. Notably, blood pressure and renal function remained within normal ranges. Additionally, ECG and AWM revealed heart blocks and reduced activity, respectively. Diastolic function deteriorated at eight weeks, accompanied by a significant decline in respiratory rates. Further investigation into the double treatment model revealed elevated fibrosis, wet/dry lung ratios, and heart weight/body weight ratios. The LDLR/P-407 mice exhibited xanthelasmas, ascites, and cardiac ischemia. Interestingly, sudden deaths occurred between 6 and 12 weeks post-treatment. The murine HFpEF model offers a valuable and promising experimental resource for elucidating the intricacies of metabolic syndrome contributing to diastolic dysfunction within the context of lipotoxicity-mediated HFpEF.

Abstract:Bovine milk contains about 3.5 to 5% total lipid, existing as emulsified globules 2 to 4 microns in diameter and coated with a membrane derived from the secreting cell. In homogenized milk, the coat is mostly casein. About 98% or more of the lipid is triacylglycerol, which is found in the globule. Phospholipids are about .5 to 1% of total lipids, and sterols are .2 to .5%. These are mostly located in the globule membrane. Cholesterol is the major sterol at 10 to 20 mg/dl. Data are presented on the membrane and the emulsion. Bovine milk contains substantial quantities of C4:0 to C10:0, about 2% each of C18:2 and trans-C18:1, and almost no other long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. The fatty acid composition is not altered by ordinary changes in diet. The triacylglycerol structure is unique, with much of the C4:0 to C10:0 at sn-3. The effects of milk cholesterol and fatty acids on human blood cholesterol levels and nonnutritive roles of some microlipids are discussed.
Comprehensive Transcriptome Analyses of the Fructose-Fed Syrian Golden Hamster Liver Provides Novel Insights into Lipid Metabolism

Abstract:Dyslipidemia has been widely proven to contribute to cardiovascular diseases and other metabolic disorders, especially in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. The overproduction of VLDL is a significant characteristic of dyslipidemia, indicating the dysfunction of hepatic lipid metabolism, from triglyceride synthesis to transport. The fructose-fed Syrian golden hamster is an established animal model for the study of VLDL assembly with insulin resistance, however, it remains unknown how VLDL production is regulated at the transcriptional level due to the absence of a complete hamster genome. Here, we performed deep sequencing and constructed an mRNA-miRNA-lncRNA interaction network of Syrian golden hamster liver in order to reveal the global transcription profile and find potential RNA molecular regulation of VLDL production. We identified 4,450 novel multi-exon hamster lncRNAs and 755 miRNAs expressed in liver. Additionally, 146 differentially expressed coding genes, 27 differentially expressed lncRNA genes, as well as 16 differentially expressed miRNAs were identified. We then constructed an mRNA-miRNA-lncRNA interaction network that may potentially regulate VLDL production, and interestingly found several microRNA-centered regulatory networks. In order to verify our interpretation, miR-486 was selected for further experiments. Overexpression or down-regulation of miR-486 in fructose-fed hamsters resulted in altered hepatic expression of proteins involved in VLDL production, and in modulated levels of circulating VLDL. Our findings implicated that miR-486 is a potential regulator of circulating VLDL levels. These results provide new insights and a valuable resource for further study of the molecular mechanisms of VLDL secretion.
