Abstract:A new method for the fabrication of monodispersed Cu nanoparticles on electrode surface was explored, and a novel electrochemical sensor for the sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was constructed by assembling copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) on the precursor film poly-p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (poly-ABSA) electropolymerized on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The assembly process consisted of two steps: the ion-exchange and coordination of Cu2+ with the sulfonic groups contained in poly-ABSA film, and the subsequent in-situ reduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu-NPs by electrochemical method. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that Cu-NPs were highly monodispersed in whole poly-ABSA, which was strongly attached to the electrode surface. The modified electrode Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE was also characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and exhibited excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of H2O2 with high stability. Amperometry was used for the determination of H2O2 at a more positive potential of -0.2 V versus Ag/AgCl in pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution, with a linear range from 0.2 mu M to 2.32 mM and a detection limit of 0.1 mu M. The Cu-NPs/poly-ABSA/GCE allowed sensitive, stable and fast amperometric sensing of H2O2, and this was promising for the development of nonenzymatic sensors. Abstract:The level of glucose in blood or urine are an important indicator of diabetes. Here, a sensitive and easily operated colorimetric methods was established based on the mercaptosuccinic acid modified copper nanocluster(MSA-CuNCs). MSA-CuNCs, which was act as both thehydrogen peroxide catalyst and the chromogenic reagent. By observing the absorption at 520 nm, the H 2 O 2 could be detected, with the detection range of 0.2-5 mM and the detection limit of 0.05 mM. Using glucose oxidase, the glucose could also be detected, the detection range was 0.2-5 mM with the detection limit of 0.12 mM. This simple and cost-effective approach indicating its great potential for point-of-care applications
Cardiac venous endothelial dysfunction after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in dogs.

Abstract:Endothelial dysfunction is a prominent occurrence in coronary arteries after myocardial ischemia and reperfusion. However, this has not been studied in coronary veins. Endothelium-dependent vasorelaxation was studied in cardiac venous rings obtained from dogs subjected to 60 min of coronary artery occlusion followed by 270 min of reperfusion, as well as from dogs subjected to sham ischemia-reperfusion. Myocardial ischemia resulted in a 96 +/- 2% decrease in coronary flow to the ischemic area 60 min after occlusion of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery, which led to a significant degree of cardiac necrosis (i.e., 32.9 +/- 3.9% of area at risk). Cardiac venous rings isolated from sham ischemia-reperfusion dogs relaxed 68 +/- 3% to 200 microM ADP, 65 +/- 3% to 2 microM A23187, and 76 +/- 4% to 200 microM sodium nitrite (NaNO2). Corresponding values for cardiac venous rings isolated from ischemic-reperfused dogs were 32 +/- 3% for 200 microM ADP (P less than 0.01 vs. sham), 31 +/- 3% for 2 microM A23187 (P less than 0.01 vs. sham), and 74 +/- 3% for 200 microM NaNO2 (NS from sham). In rings from control dogs, vasorelaxation to ADP and A23187 was markedly inhibited by 4 mM NG-methyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) and 10 methylene blue and restored after NG-nitro-L-arginine by 3 mM L-arginine. These results demonstrate that a significant degree of endothelial dysfunction occurred in cardiac venous rings after ischemia and reperfusion.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) play a key role in many cellular signaling pathways. The efficient and accurate in situ detection of H2O2 and H2S released from living cells has attracted extensive research interests. Herein, we presented a portable colorimetric and electrochemical dual-mode sensor for detection of cellular secreted H2O2 and H2S based on MOF-818 nanozyme. MOF-818 containing trinuclear copper centers not only possesses excellent peroxidase-like activity under 37 °C and acidic conditions, but also exhibits outstanding electrocatalytic reduction activity to H2O2 (reduction peak potential at −0.08 V vs Ag/AgCl). Meanwhile, the copper sites of MOF-818 can be coordinated with sulfide, reducing the catalytic activity of MOF-818. As a result, the colorimetric and electrochemical sensing of H2O2 and H2S were established based on “signal-on” and “signal-off” strategies, respectively. Additionally, the combination of a smartphone and a miniature electrochemical analyzer enables dual-mode colorimetric and electrochemical sensing platform for in situ detection of H2O2 and H2S released from live cells. This portable dual-mode sensor based on MOF nanozyme not only opens a new path for point-of-care testing, but also has potential applications in the field of cell biology and clinical diagnosis.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is closely involved in the fields of food industry. Excessive residual H2O2 in food samples will exert adverse effects on the nutritional value of foods and pose great threat to the health of consumer. Development of a reliable analytical method for on-spot quantitative detection of H2O2 levels in food is of urgent necessity. Here, we presented a colorimetric and near-infrared (NIR) ratiometric fluorescent sensor for on-spot quantitative detection of H2O2 in various food samples. The sensor displayed colorimetric and NIR ratiometric fluorescence dual-signal response to H2O2 with high selectivity and sensitivity. The limits of detection (LOD) was measured to be 23.08 nM (S / N = 3). The sensor has been applied for detecting exogenous and endogenous H2O2 in living cells by fluorescence imaging. Also, the changes of H2O2 level in potato tissue infected by phytophthora infestans has been monitored. Particularly, to achieve on-spot quantitative detection of H2O2 in food samples, a portable and field deployable detection device was rationally developed. The sensor, together with portable detection devices and smartphones, performed on-spot quantitative detection of H2O2 in chicken wings and milk through dual signal outputs of colorimetry and fluorescence. We anticipate that the analytical method developed here could be served as convenient tool for on-spot quantitative detection of H2O2 in different foods in near future.

Abstract:Paper-based analytical devices (PADs) integrated with smartphones have shown great potential in various fields, but they also face challenges such as single signal reading, complex data processing and significant environmental impacting. In this study, a colorimetric PAD platform has been proposed using bimetallic nickel-cobalt selenides as highly active peroxidase mimic, smartphone with 3D-printing dark-cavity as a portable detector and an artificial neural network (ANN) model as multi-signal processing tool. Notably, the optimized nickel-cobalt selenides (Ni0.75Co0.25Se with Ni to Co ratio of 3/1) exhibit excellent peoxidase-mimetic activities and are capable of catalyzing the oxidation of four chromogenic reagents in the presence of H2O2. Using a smartphone with image capture function as a friendly signal readout tool, the Ni0.75Co0.25Se based four channel colorimetric sensing paper is used for multi-signal quantitative analysis of H2O2 by determining the Grey, red (R), green (G) and blue (B) channel values of the captured pictures. An intelligent on-site detection method for H2O2 has been constructed by combining an ANN model and a self-programmed easy-to-use smartphone APP with a dynamic range of 5 μM to 2 M. Noteworthy, machine learning-assisted smartphone sensing devices based on nanozyme and 3D printing technology provide new insights and universal strategies for visual ultrasensitive detection in a variety of fields, including environments monitoring, biomedical diagnosis and safety screening.

Abstract:The significance of sensing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is due to its ubiquity, being a potential biomarker as well as an end-product of several oxidation reactions. Herein, based on gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and coupled with single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and ceria nanoparticles (CeO2), we developed a novel colorimetric method to detect H2O2 and glucose in NaCl solutions. In the presence of H2O2, ssDNA adsorbed on the surface of CeO2 could be released and subsequently decorated AuNPs, resulting in a distinct color change of the aqueous solution from purple to red, which could be observed by the naked eye. Since H2O2 can be produced in the process of glucose oxidation by glucose oxidase (GOx), this approach can also be employed to detect glucose. By employing this sensing system, the detection limits for H2O2 and glucose are about 0.21 μM and 3.01 μM, respectively. Additionally, monitoring the content of glucose in blood serum samples was successfully achieved by the proposed strategy. This work opens a potential avenue for the quantitative detection of H2O2 and glucose in clinical diagnostics.

Abstract:Abnormal expression of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) elucidates cell dysfunctions and might induce the occurrence and deterioration of various diseases. However, limited by its ultralow level under pathophysiological conditions, intracellular and extracellular H2O2 was difficult to be detected accurately. Herein, a colorimetric and homogeneous electrochemical dual-mode biosensing platform was constructed for intracellular/extracellular H2O2 detection based on FeSx/SiO2 nanoparticles (FeSx/SiO2 NPs) with high peroxidase-like activity. In this design, FeSx/SiO2 NPs were synthesized with excellent catalytic activity and stability compared to natural enzymes, which improved the sensitivity and stability of sensing strategy. 3,3',5,5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), as a multifunctional indicator, was oxidized in the presence of H2O2, generated color changes and realized visual analysis. In this process, the characteristic peak current of TMB decreased, which could realize the ultrasensitive detection of H2O2 by homogeneous electrochemistry. Accordingly, by integrating visual analysis ability of colorimetry and the high sensitivity of homogeneous electrochemistry, the dual-mode biosensing platform exhibited high accuracy, sensitivity and reliability. The detection limits of H2O2 were 0.2 μM (S/N = 3) for the colorimetric method and 2.5 nM (S/N = 3) for the homogeneous electrochemistry assay. Therefore, the dual-mode biosensing platform provided a new opportunity for highly accurate and sensitive detection of intracellular/extracellular H2O2.

Abstract:Abstract Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) is an important product generated in the body and related to many pathophysiological processes and glucose metabolism disorder can cause many fatal diseases in living bodies. Therefore, the sensing of H 2 O 2 and glucose is of great significance in disease diagnostics and treatment. Fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) are one new class of nanoprobes for H 2 O 2 and glucose. Nevertheless, the CD-based sensor is always based on its fluorescence response, which is influenced by the auto-fluorescent interference. Herein, efficient fluorescent CDs were synthesized by one-pot solvothermal method, and the CDs exhibit bright and persistent deep-red (DR) chemiluminescence (CL) in bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) oxalate and H 2 O 2 solution with a CL quantum yield of (8.22 ± 0.30) × 10 −3 , which is amongst the highest values in ever reported nanomaterials for chemical analysis. Employing the CDs as CL nanoprobes, sensitive sensing for H 2 O 2 has been achieved with a detection limit of 11.7 μM, and further for glucose detection with a detection limit of 12.6 μM. The DR CL CDs is promising to be applied in blood glucose analysis or in vivo biosensor.

Abstract:Efficient catalytic decomposition of H 2 O 2 is accompanied by electron transfer through Fe-N x active sites of hemin in the human body. Inspired by this reaction process, the Fe SAs/Co CNs were successfully synthesized by combined Co atomic sites with nitrogen-carbon doped Fe single-atom active sites (SAs). The synergy between transition metals not only reduces agglomeration during synthesis but also improves its own electrical conductivity due to the interaction between Fe and Co that promotes the formation of graphite surface. Crucially, the synergistic effect of the Co site significantly enhanced the peroxidase activity of the Fe SAs and the reaction rate of the Fenton-like reaction, resulting in an efficient detection of H 2 O 2 . Catalytic kinetic calculations and enzymatic kinetic calculations were used to verify the electron transfer rate and catalytic performance of their constructed electrochemical sensing interfaces. The results showed that Fe SAs/Co CNs@GCE showed better detection performance than Fe SAs CNs@GCE. It was applied successfully to detect H 2 O 2 released from cells in real-time as well. The linear detection range of Fe SAs/Co CNs@GCE for H 2 O 2 was 1–16664 μM, and the detection limit was as low as 0.25 μM. Furthermore, an electrochemical sensing chip was constructed using Fe SAs/Co CNs@SPE and the prepared microfluidic channel. The constructed portable FeSAs/Co CNs@SPE had a linear range of 1–400 μM and a detection limit of 0.36 μM and achieved the recovery detection of H 2 O 2 in serum. The electrochemical sensing interfaces constructed based on Fe SAs/Co CNs all have efficient catalytic performance and excellent real-time hydrogen peroxide detection performance, which have practical application potential for human oxidative stress level detection. And it provides a novel approach to the trace detection of bioactive small molecules.

Abstract:Background Chemiluminescence (CL) analysis, characterized by its simple instrumentation, high signal-to-noise ratio, wide linear range, and minimal background interference, has garnered increasing attention from researchers. Nanomaterials (NMs) have been explored to enhance CL intensity. Notably, sub-1 nanometer scale NMs are considered to hold significant untapped potential due to their size effects. The application of these sub-1 nanometer NMs in enhancing CL is anticipated to yield favorable results. Additionally, the low water solubility and bioavailability of quercetin glycosides lead to their presence in bodily fluids at only trace levels, highlighting the urgent need for efficient and rapid detection methods. Results In this work, phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) was incorporated into CuO to synthesize sub-1 nanometer CuO-PMA nanosheets (SNSs) using a cluster-core co-assembly strategy. Conformational and structural characterization confirmed the successful synthesis of these nanosheets. The CuO-PMA SNSs were employed to enhance the CL emission of the luminol-H 2 O 2 system, resulting in an increase of over 1000 times. The catalytic properties of CuO-PMA SNSs significantly facilitated the decomposition of H 2 O 2 , leading to an enhanced production of reactive oxygen species, which in turn induced the CL enhancement. Given that the antioxidant effect of quercetin would consume the reactive oxygen species generated during the catalysis, a decrease in CL intensity was anticipated. A CL sensor for quercetin detection was developed based on the CuO-PMA SNSs-luminol-H 2 O 2 system, demonstrating a strong linear relationship (R 2 = 0.9969) and a low detection limit of 0.31 nM. Significance This research provides a strategy to enhance the CL intensity of the luminol-H 2 O 2 system by using CuO-PMA SNSs, offering a highly sensitive assay for detecting quercetin concentrations. The method is characterized as a simple and cost-effective analytical strategy making CL analysis very attractive for chemical analysts.

Abstract:We report on a compact and portable prototype of chemiluminescence detector based on a single planar single polar transparent electrowetting-on-dielectrics (EWOD) device. The coupling ground model was proposed to build the EWOD device, which could be driven under a single polar voltage. Such a design not only simplified the chip construction and control circuit, but also had the potential for the ball-like droplet to focus the fluorescence and enhance the detection sensitivity. Simulations and experiments both confirmed that the greater the contact angle, the stronger the detected optical signal, and thus the higher the sensitivity. The sensitivity of the prototype detector to H2O2 was 5.45 mV (mmol L-1)(-1) and the detection limit was 0.01 mmol L-1 when the contact angle of the EWOD surface was 120 degrees. To further increase the sensitivity and decrease the detection limit, the contact angle of the EWOD device could be increased and the dark current of the photomultiplier decreased. The prototype shows potential applications as highly sensitive, cost effective and portable immuno-detectors, especially as a blood glucose monitor.

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glutathione (GSH) have been reported to be associated with a variety of diseases. Therefore, the accurate and rapid determination of H2O2 and GSH was very important. The traditional assay was the colorimetric method, which suffered from the bottleneck of single-mode analysis. In this work, we designed a dual-mode fluorescence and colorimetric sensor for detecting H2O2 and GSH based on bifunctional Fe, Co-CDs, which possessed peroxidase (POD)-mimetic activity and fluorescence property. Concretely, the Fe, Co-CDs catalyzed oxidation of 3,3 ',5,5 '-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to a blue product (oxTMB) with the help of H2O2, which could be inhibited by GSH. Meanwhile, the fluorescence of Fe, Co-CDs weakened with increasing oxTMB, realizing the fluorescence analysis of H2O2 and GSH. In fluorescence and colorimetric sensors, the detection limit (LOD) of H2O2 could reach as low as 0.54 mu M and 0.81 mu M, as well as the LOD of GSH was 0.39 and 0.61 mu M, respectively. Besides, the smartphone-assisted hydrogel sensor was developed for on-site detection of GSH via color change. This study not only designed a dual-mode sensor for dual-target detection but also provided insights for further exploration of multifunctional nanozymes.
Synthesis, Characterization, and Electrochemiluminescence of Luminol-Reduced Gold Nanoparticles and Their Application in a Hydrogen Peroxide Sensor.

Abstract:It was found that chloroauric acid (HAuCl(4)) could be directly reduced by the luminescent reagent luminol in aqueous solution to form gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), the size of which depended on the amount of luminol. The morphology and surface state of as-prepared AuNPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, UV/visible spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. All results indicated that residual luminol and its oxidation product 3-aminophthalate coexisted on the surface of AuNPs through the weak covalent interaction between gold and nitrogen atoms in their amino groups. Subsequently, a luminol-capped AuNP-modified electrode was fabricated by the immobilization of AuNPs on a gold electrode by virtue of cysteine molecules and then immersion in a luminol solution. The modified electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The as-prepared modified electrode exhibited an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) response in alkaline aqueous solution under a double-step potential. H2O2 was found to enhance the ECL. On this basis, an ECL sensor for the detection of H2O2 was developed. The method is simple, fast, and reagent free. It is applicable to the determination of H2O2 in the range of 3x10(-7)-1x10(-3) mol L(-1) with a detection limit of 1x10(-7) mol L(-1) (S/N=3).

Abstract:Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-involved metabolites are widely engaged in cellular metabolism, and play significant roles in cell proliferation, cell growth, and signaling transduction. It is highly desirable to establish a method for the detection of H2O2-involved metabolites for applications ranging from chemical sensing to biomedical diagnosis. Herein, monodispersed sandwich @ nanorods (referred to as AMPRs) with bright Raman emission were developed to serve as a universal platform for detecting H2O2-involved metabolites (4-mercaptobenzonitrile is abbreviated to 4-MBN as the Raman reporter and PEG is polyethylene glycol). The system detects metabolites through changes in the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectrum, resulting from the controllable etching of the silver layer by the H2O2 produced by the metabolites. The integrative nanoplatform was successfully used to quantify the levels of glucose, lactate, and choline in aqueous solutions by exploiting the close linear relationship between the intensity of a SERS band and the logarithmic concentration of H2O2. The presented SERS nanoplatform demonstrated considerable practicability for the detection of glucose in cerebrospinal fluid samples (with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.76 μM), and was capable of distinguishing infected from uninfected individuals. Therefore, the SERS sensor provides a new platform for the detection of H2O2-involved metabolites in biological fluids, and has potential for use in metabolite analysis and biomedical diagnostics.

Abstract:The development of facile, rapid and cost-effective strategies for sensitive detection of cancer biomarkers in human samples is of great significance for early diagnosis of malignant tumors related diseases. In this work, we develop a high-performance electrochemical biosensor based on highly active dual nanozyme amplified system, i.e., ultrathin two-dimension (2D) conductive metal–organic framework (C-MOF) nanosheets (NSs) decorated with high-density ultrafine gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs), and explore its application in sensitive detection of cancer biomarker H2O2 in live cells. The C-MOF NSs {i.e., Cu-HHTP (HHTP = 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene)-NSs} provide large surface area and abundant active open metal sites (Cu–O4), which could improve the catalytic activity of Cu-HHTP-NSs towards H2O2. Moreover, abundant exposed O atoms also serve as anchor sites for the deposition of high-density ultrafine Au-NPs (∼3 nm) without agglomeration. Owing to the synergistic contributions of high catalytic activity of Cu-HHTP-NSs and Au-NPs as well as their unique structural and electrical properties, the as-prepared nanohybrid modified electrode exhibits good sensing performances to H2O2 with an extremely low detection limit of 5.6 nM (3σ rules) and a high sensitivity of 188.1 μA cm−2 mM−1. Furthermore, the proposed nanozymatic electrochemical biosensor has been applied in real-time tracking H2O2 released from different human colon cells to identify colon cancer cells from normal colon epithelial cell, which demonstrates its great prospect for early diagnosis and management of various cancer diseases.

Abstract:Self-driven microfluidic systems have attracted significant attention and demonstrated great potential in the field of point-of-care (POC) testing due to their device simplicity, low power consumption, increased portability, and reduced sample consumption. To develop POC detection chips with diverse characteristics that meet different requirements, there is a strong demand for feasible strategies that enable easy operation and reduce processing time. Here, a one-step processing approach using femtosecond laser direct writing technology was proposed to fabricate a capillary-actuated POC microfluidic chip. The driving force of the chip is highly dependent on its surface wettability, which can be easily adjusted by changing the laser processing parameters. This POC microfluidic chip allowed for the detection of intracellular H2O2 through a catalytic reaction system that incorporated 5-aminosalicylic acid -sensitized colloidal TiO2 nanoparticles and horse radish peroxidase, with integrating semiconductor-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) quantitative technique. The concentration of H2O2 was determined by the SERS signal of the catalytic products in the microfluidic chip, resulting in rapid detection with minimal sample consumption. Our method provides a simple, feasible, and alternative strategy for POC testing of H2O2, with a linear range of 10-2∼10-6 M and a limit of detection of 0.55 μM. This approach was successfully applied to rapid detection of intracellular H2O2 in MCF-7 breast cancer cells with high sensitivity and minimal sample consumption. Additionally, this study not only demonstrates the exceptional advantages of femtosecond laser processing technology in fabricating diverse microfluidic chips for various applications, but also presents an efficient POC testing strategy for detecting cell signaling molecules.

Abstract:One of the effective approaches to safeguard human health is the rapid and sensitive identification of food additives, environmental pollutants, and disease markers. This study developed a portable intelligent paper-based sensor for point-of-care detection of hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) and sarcosine (SA) using smartphone colorimetric analysis, supplemented by UV-Vis verification. The paper-based sensor utilizes a chemical modification of conventional filter paper by immobilizing horseradish peroxidase (HRP) from the horseradish plant, achieved through boronate affinity and metal chelation techniques. For H 2 O 2 detection, the sensor exhibited a linear range of 2–100 μmol L −1 and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.0 μmol L −1 . Similarly, a range of 2–400 μmol L −1 for SA detection and an LOD of 1.0 μmol L −1 . The sensors were successfully employed for determining the H 2 O 2 concentration in liquor samples, environmental water, and the amount of SA in urine. Significantly, the detection ranges of these sensors surpassed those of commercially available test strips. In summary, we first proposed enzyme-immobilized paper-based sensors for immobilizing HRP from plants to detect H 2 O 2 and SA, which are intelligent, portable, fast, green, low-cost, highly sensitive, and selective, with broad application prospects in food analysis, environmental monitoring, and medical diagnostics.

Abstract:In this study, a sensitive and stable electrochemical sensor based on CuO-CeO2/MXene is constructed for the continuous detection of H2O2. CuO-CeO2 nanomaterials are applied as a catalyst to promote the electrolysis of H2O2 on the electrode surface as well as amplify the reduction current for the aim of H2O2 detection. MXene serves as a catalyst carrier for CuO-CeO2 and enhances the electron transfer rate during the reduction process of H2O2. Furthermore, the generation of hydroxyl radical during the decomposition of H2O2 is demonstrated by UV–vis spectrum and first-principles calculation to explore the reaction mechanism. The electrolysis rate of H2O2 is obtained as 0.61 × 103 M−1 s−1 by chronoamperometry. Based on the good properties, the electrochemical sensor fabricated by CuO-CeO2/MXene exhibits high sensitivity, stability, and reproducibility. A good linear relationship is ranged from 5.0 μM to 100 μM with a low detection limit of 1.67 μM for H2O2 detection. Besides, the current signal is stable and reproducible when continuously testing H2O2 content, which can calculate a reliable H2O2 concentration value for practical application. The proposed approach sheds light on the rational design and assembly of electrochemical sensors and its relevant catalytic mechanism study.

Abstract:We report the existence of a reversible pressure-induced first-order phase transition between the zinc-blende (B3) and the NiAs (B8) phase in the beryllium chalcogenides BeSe and BeTe at pressures of 56\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5 GPa and 35\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}5 GPa, respectively. The NiAs phase remains stable in both compounds with further pressure increase up to at least 72 GPa in BeSe and 53 GPa in BeTe. For BeTe, an amorphous phase was observed upon decompression in the pressure range from 47 to 32 GPa. The equation of state is determined for each compound. We discuss the systematic trends of the structural phase transition, the stability of the NiAs structure, amorphization, as well as metallization in the beryllium chalcogenides.
