Abstract:Background: Supraglottic airways (SGA) are increasing used in pediatric anesthesia. Among SGA i-gelTM is commonly used device in pediatric patients. The BlockbusterTM laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is latest addition in pediatric airway armamentarium. This study was conducted to compare the clinical performance of i-gelTM and BlockbusterTM LMA in pediatric patients. Methods: A total of 140 children aged 1–5 years, who were undergoing elective surgery, were randomized into two groups either i-gelTM (Group I) or BlockbusterTM LMA (Group B). Airway was secured with appropriate-sized LMA according to group allocation under general anesthesia. The primary objective of study was oropharyngeal leak pressures (OPLP), and secondary objectives were number of attempts of device insertion, success rate, ease of LMA insertion, hemodynamic parameters, and postoperative pharyngolaryngeal morbidities. Results: The mean OPLP was significantly higher for i-gelTM compared to BlockbusterTM LMA (27.97 ± 1.65 vs. 26.04 ± 2.12; P < 0.000). The devices were successfully inserted on the first attempt in 97.14% and 90% of the i-gelTM group and BlockbusterTM LMA groups respectively. The insertion time, ease of insertion, hemodynamic parameters and postoperative complications were comparable between groups. Conclusions: The i-gelTM was more efficacious device in term of OPLP than BlockbusterTM LMA for positive pressure ventilation in pediatric patients undergoing short surgical procedures under general anesthesia.

Abstract:Background and Aims: The Air-Q blocker (Cook gas LLC, Mercury Medical, Clearwater, FL, USA) is a relatively new supraglottic airway device (SAD) with capability to serve as a conduit for intubation. As there is limited data on Air-Q blocker, the present study was performed to compare the efficacy of Air-Q blocker and Proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) in patients undergoing elective surgery. Methods: A total of 90 American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I and II patients were randomly allocated to Air-Q blocker or PLMA group. Oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP), insertion success, insertion time, ease of orogastric tube (OGT) insertion, fibreoptic visualisation of the glottis, haemodynamic and ventilation parameters, and complications at emergence and postoperatively were investigated. Results: OLPs were higher in PLMA group as compared to Air-Q blocker group ( P = 0.002). Still, the OLP (27.5 ± 5.8 cm H 2 O) was clinically effective in Air-Q blocker group.The mean time for successful insertion was significantly shorter for Air-Q blocker than PLMA ( P = 0.019). The number of attempts to insert both the devices was comparable ( P ≥ 0.05). Air-Q blocker provided a significantly better fibreoptic score than PLMA ( P = 0.038). The two groups were comparable in terms of ease of OGT insertion, haemodynamics and ventilation parameters, and complications at emergence and postoperatively. Conclusions: Air-Q blocker provides a clinically effective OLP though PLMA provides a slightly better sealing function in patients undergoing laparoscopic and non-laparoscopic surgeries under general anaesthesia requiring neuromuscular blockade. Air-Q blocker has shorter insertion time and a better fibreoptic view of glottis as compared to PLMA.

Abstract:Background and Aims: Blockbuster laryngeal mask airway (LMA), a newer supraglottic airway device, provides a quick and reliable seal of the airway, making it useful for positive pressure ventilation. This randomized comparative study was undertaken to compare the safety and efficacy of I-gel and Blockbuster LMA used in short surgical procedures under general anesthesia. Materials and Methods: Hundred patients of either sex aged between 18 and 60 years belonging to the American Society of Anesthesiologist physical Status I and II undergoing general anesthesia were randomized into two groups of 50 patients each, using either I-gel (Group IG) or Blockbuster LMA (Group BB). After standard monitoring and induction of anesthesia, LMA was inserted according to their randomized groups and adequate ventilation was achieved. The primary objectives were grading of ease of insertion and time taken for successful insertion of device, while number of attempts for insertion, oropharyngeal seal pressure (OSP), hemodynamic changes, and adverse effects such as blood staining of device, injury of lips, tongue and teeth, postoperative hoarseness of voice and sore throat were secondary objectives. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 3.0.0.34. Results: The ease of insertion was graded as very easy in 46 patients in Group BB and 26 patients in Group IG ( P < 0.001). The mean time for insertion was less with Group BB (24.30 ± 3.91 s) as compared to Group IG (29.50 ± 12.5 s) ( P < 0.0001). 48 patients in Group BB while 37 patients in Group IG ( P = 0.008) were required one attempt for insertion. The average OSP was 22.59 ± 1.44 cmH 2 O in Group BB as compared to 20.88 ± 2.22 cmH 2 O in Group IG ( P < 0.0001). Hemodynamic changes were comparable at different time intervals. Complications such as blood stain of device and sore throat were more with I-gel. Conclusions: The Blockbuster LMA is an effective alternative to I-gel with faster, easier insertion, required a smaller number of attempts, high airway sealing pressure with stable hemodynamic, and less incidence of blood staining and postoperative sore throat.

Clinical Performance of I-gel® and BlockBuster™ Laryngeal Mask Airway in Adult Patients during General Anesthesia: A Randomized Comparison

Abstract:Background: Supraglottic devices have revolutionized the current practice of airway management. We compared the clinical performance of a recently introduced BlockBuster™ Laryngeal mask airway with i-gel® in adult patients under general anesthesia. Methods: Following Institutional ethical clearance, the present study was conducted on 62 patients belonging to American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status 1 and 2 of either sex in the age group of 20-60 years under general anesthesia. Patients were randomly assigned to i-gel® (I) and BlockBuster™ (B) groups (31 per group). Time for successful insertion, insertion success rate, ease of insertion, oropharyngeal leak pressures (OLPs), and complications were assessed. Results: Mean insertion time of device was less in Group I (13.52 ± 2.58 s) than that of Group B (14.10 ± 2.04 s), which was neither clinically nor statistically significant (P = 0.330). OLP in Group B (24.52 ± 2.77 cm of H2O) was found to be significantly higher compared to Group I (20.81 ± 2.56 cm of H2O) with P < 0.001. Overall insertion and first attempt success was similar (i-gel® 31/31 [100%] and 29/31 [93.5%] and BlockBuster™ 31/31 [100%] and 29/31 [93.5%], respectively). Ease of insertion (P = 0.684) and complications (P = 0.782) of both the devices were comparable. Conclusions: Both the devices are useful and effective for airway management in adult under general anesthesia. Having a high OLP and comparable insertion time, risk of aspiration may be further reduced with the use of BlockBuster™ in comparison to i-gel®.
Comparison of Standard and Lateral Methods of Laryngeal Mask Airway Insertion in the Management of Pediatrics Airway

Abstract:Background: The Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) has traditionally become an alternative device for airway management. This clinical trial compared two standard and lateral techniques in inserting laryngeal masks in pediatric airway management. Methods: This single-blind clinical trial study was conducted on pediatrics aged 2-6 years who were candidates for elective inguinal herniorrhaphy with ASA I and II under general anesthesia. The pediatrics were randomly assigned to either the standard or lateral methods according to the random number table. The time required to insert LMA and airway pressure as well as the number of attempts to insert in both groups were measured. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 25; the significance level was less than 0.05. Results: Chest movement and mean airway pressure had no significant difference in both groups (p>0.05). The mean LMA insertion time in the lateral and standard methods was 22.94±7.89 and 65±15.27 seconds, respectively (p=0.001). There was no case of mucosal damage in the lateral method, but ten children had mucosal damage in the standard technique (p=0.001). In the lateral method, LMA was inserted for the first time in 32 pediatrics (94.1%) and two pediatrics (5.9%) in the second time but in the standard group, LMA was inserted in the second time in 11 pediatrics (32.4%) (p=0.006). Conclusion: The lateral method for inserting LMA is practically easy, requires less effort, and has the least complications. Another advantage of the lateral method compared to the standard technique is that inserting a finger into the pharyngeal cavity is unnecessary.
Progressive nonfluent aphasia: A rare clinical subtype of FTLD‐TDP in Japan

Abstract:Progressive nonfluent aphasia (PNFA) is a clinical subtype of frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). FTLD with tau accumulation (FTLD‐tau) and FTLD with TDP‐43 accumulation (FTLD‐TDP) both cause PNFA. We reviewed clinical records of 29 FTLD‐TDP cases in the brain archive of our institute and found only one case of PNFA. The patient was an 81‐year‐old male at death. There was no family history of dementia or aphasia. He presented with slow, labored and nonfluent speech at age 75. Behavioral abnormality and movement disorders were absent. MRI at age 76 demonstrated atrophy of the perisylvian regions, including the inferior frontal gyrus, insular gyrus and superior temporal gyrus. The atrophy was more severe in the left hemisphere than the right. On post mortem examinations, neuronal loss was evident in these regions as well as in the substantia nigra. There were abundant TDP‐43‐immunoreactive neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions and round or irregular‐shaped structures in the affected cerebral cortices. A few dystrophic neurites and neuronal intranuclear inclusions were also seen. FTLD‐TDP showing PNFA seems to be rare but does exist in Japan, similar to that in other countries.

Abstract:BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Weight-based selection of ProSeal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) size may be unreliable in some situations. The aim of this study was to compare the ventilation parameters using PLMA during controlled ventilation between weight-based size selection and pinna size-based selection in children.METHODS: A total of 204 patients were randomised to receive either pinna size-based (Group P) or weight-based (Group W) size selection of PLMA. We tested the hypothesis that pinna size-based selection of PLMA was better than weight-based selection of PLMA in paediatric patients during controlled ventilation under general anaesthesia in terms of oropharyngeal sealing pressure (the primary end-point) and Brimacombe score. Cuff pressure was maintained at 60 cm of H2O during the study. Secondary outcomes included the number of attempts for successful placement of PLMA, peak airway pressure, gastric tube placement, traumatic insertion, and complications were also compared. Parametric variables were analysed using unpaired t-test and categorical variables were analysed using Mann-Whitney and Chi-square test.RESULTS: In all, 200 patients were analysed. The mean oropharyngeal sealing pressure in Group P was 25.4 ± 3.5 cmH2O and 24.9 ± 3.8 cmH2O in Group W, (P = 0.34). There was no significant difference between the two groups in any of the secondary outcomes. There were no traumatic insertion or complications reported in both the groups.CONCLUSION: Pinna-based size selection method can be used in PLMA placement in the paediatric population for positive pressure ventilation and it serves as an alternative method to weight-based selection.

Abstract:Background and Aims: LMA ProSeal (PLMA) is a commonly used airway maintenance device in elective procedures and is routinely inserted from the head-end of the patient. It is also used in pre-hospital emergencies where it may not always be possible to access the head-end. This study aims to compare the insertion characteristics of PLMA when inserted while standing, either at the head-end or from the front. Material and Methods: After institutional ethics committee approval, 60 consenting patients of either sex, between 18 and 60 years, ASA class I/II, and scheduled to undergo elective surgeries were randomly allocated to either group H (head-end insertion) or group F (front-end insertion). Patients with anticipated difficult airway, chronic respiratory disease, obesity, and who were pregnant were excluded. Insertion time, ease of insertion, fiber optic view, ease of drain tube insertion, number of attempts and success rate were noted. Normally distributed quantitative variables were compared using t -test, and qualitative variables were compared using Chi-squared test. A P < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Insertion time in group H (23.76 ± 4.48 s) was lesser than in group F (30.53 ± 6.23s) ( P = 0.027). Ease of insertion ( P = 0.052), fiber optic view, ease of drain tube placement ( P = 1.000), and number of attempts ( P = 1.000) were comparable among the groups. Conclusion: Although the insertion time from the front is longer than from the head-end, the other insertion characteristics of PLMA including ease of its insertion, placement and success rate of placement are similar when it is inserted from the front or from the head-end. It is an appropriate airway device for securing the airway when the head-end is inaccessible.

Abstract:BackgroundInsertion under laryngoscopic guidance has been used to achieve ideal positioning of the laryngeal mask airway (LMA). However, to date, the efficacy of this technique has been evaluated only using fiberoptic evaluation, and the results have been conflicting. Other reliable tests to evaluate the efficacy of this technique have not been established. Recently, it has been suggested that the accuracy of LMA placement can be determined by clinical signs such as oropharyngeal leak pressure (OPLP). The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of LMA insertion under laryngoscopic guidance using OPLP as an indicator.MethodsAfter approved by the institutional ethics committee, a prospective comparison of 100 patients divided into 2 groups (50 with blind technique and 50 with the laryngoscope technique) were evaluated. An LMA (LarySeal™, Flexicare medical Ltd., UK) was inserted using the blind approach in the blind insertion group and using laryngoscopy in the laryngoscope-guided insertion group. The OPLP, fiberoptic position score, whether the first attempt at LMA insertion was successful, time taken for insertion, ease of LMA insertion, and adverse airway events were recorded.ResultsData were presented as mean ± standard deviation. The OPLP was higher in the laryngoscope-guided insertion group than in the blind insertion group (21.4 ± 8.6 cmH2O vs. 18.1 ± 6.1 cmH2O, p = 0.031). The fiberoptic position score, rate of success in the first attempt, ease of insertion, and pharyngolaryngeal adverse events were similar between both groups. The time taken for insertion of the LMA was significantly longer in the laryngoscope-guided insertion group, compared to blind insertion group (35.9 ± 9.5 s vs. 28.7 ± 9.5 s, p < 0.0001).ConclusionLaryngoscope-guided insertion of LMA improves the airway seal pressure compared to blind insertion. Abstract:Background and aims: Intra-cuff pressure of Air-Q self-pressurized laryngeal airways (Air-Q SP) balances airway pressure and adapts to patient's pharyngeal and periglottic structures, thus improves oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP).This study was performed to compare efficacy of Air-Q SP with Proseal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) in patients undergoing elective surgery. Material and methods: The study design was prospective, randomized and controlled. Ninety patients were randomly assigned to Air-Q SP or PLMA group. All patients were premedicated and shifted to operation theatre. Monitoring was instituted. After securing IV-line, induction with inj. Morphine + Propofol, relaxation with inj. Vecuronium was done. Supraglottic was inserted according to group allocation. Outcome measures were OLP, fibreoptic view of larynx, success rate, device insertion parameters, haemodynamic and respiratory parameters and post-operative laryngopharyngeal complications. Neostigmine + glycopyrrolate were given, device was extubated. Results: All supraglottic airway devices (SADs) were successfully placed in two attempts. The mean initial OLP, OLP at 10 minutes, and device insertion time were significantly lower in Air-Q SP group. Fiber-optic laryngeal view grading was significantly better with Air-Q SP. No significant difference was observed with respect to rate of successful insertion in first attempt, ease of insertion, and manipulations required. The hemodynamic/respiratory parameters and post-operative sore throat in the two both groups were similar. Conclusions: Proseal LMA has a higher OLP than Air-Q SP but average insertion time was better, and fiber-optic grading of laryngeal view was shorter with Air-Q SP. However, Air-Q SP and Proseal LMA were both effective for lung ventilation.

Abstract:In the current American ophthalmic literature it has been assumed that polymorphonuclear leukocytes arrive at corneal wounds by migration through corneal stromal tissue from perilimbal vessels.1-4The idea, first expressed by Julius Cohnheim in 1867,5that inflammatory cells can also reach the edges of corneal wounds by passage from "conjunctival secretions" directly into the wound defect has largely escaped notice. The experimental observations in this report emphasize the importance of the latter route of arrival. They are in accord with the recent publications of Heydenreich6,7in Germany and confirm Cohnheim's original observations. Materials and Methods Albino rabbits weighing 2-3 kg. were anesthetized with intravenous injection of sodium pentobarbital. Clean, linear incisions of uniform depth were made in the cornea with razor edge either centrally or adjacent to the limbus. The animals were killed at intervals varying from 0 minutes to 2 weeks from the time of wounding.

Abstract:Introduction: Supraglottic Airway Devices (SAD) can be used instead of endotracheal intubation in both regular and complicated airway situations. Auragain, ProSeal and Protector Laryngeal Mask Airways (LMA) are second generation LMAs. They have a separate provision for gastric drainage. Auragain LMA is a recent second-generation Supra Glottic Airway device (SGA) with a pre-formed curved shaft and a double lumen having wider airway path to aid endotracheal intubation. ProSeal LMA also has a double cuff for better sealing to prevent gastric insufflation and aspiration. Protector LMA has two large-volume gastric drainage channels and an integrated cuff pressure indicator called the cuff pilot which enables application of higher respiratory pressure. Aim: To compare the adequacy of placement of Auragain, ProSeal and protector LMAs by vocal cord visualisation using fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Materials and Methods: A randomised clinical study was conducted in the Department of Anaesthesiology, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, from October 2021 to October 2022 among 120 patients. They were allocated by computer-generated random numbers into three groups namely Auragain, ProSeal and Protector LMA Group. The adequacy of placement of LMA through Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FOB) using Brimacombe and berry scoring, Oropharyngeal Leak Pressure (OLP), time of insertion of LMA, number of attempts for insertion, ease of insertion of LMA, Ryle’s tube insertion success rate and postoperative complications were recorded immediately, after an hour and 24 hour, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed using International Business Machines-Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM-SPSS) software version 21.0. Results: The mean±Standard Deviation (SD) age in Auragain groups, ProSeal and Protector LMA groups was 41.35±12.96 years, 36.58±12.62 years and 36.65±12.50 years, respectively. The demographic data, procedures and duration of anaesthesia were comparable between the three groups. The mean insertion time (in seconds) was lower in the Auragain LMA group (16.80±3.66) when compared to protector LMA (20.20±6.93) and ProSeal LMA (21.68±4.44) with statistically significant difference (p-value<0.0001). The OLP (in cm H2O) was more with ProSeal LMA (34.43±5.26) than Protector LMA (32.60±3.45) and Auragain LMA (28.55±1.85) with statistically significant difference (p-value<0.0001). The fiberoptic view was better with ProSeal LMA and statistically significant with Grade 4 (p-value<0.0001) and Grade 3 (p-value=0.007). The three devices were comparable in terms of ease and success of insertion of LMA, ease of placement of gastric tube and postoperative symptoms. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the ProSeal LMA offers better airway access and safety despite being slightly difficult to insert compared to Ambu Auragain or Protector LMA.

Abstract:Background: The supraglottic airway device (SAD) has proved to be an appropriate alternative to endotracheal intubation in laparoscopic surgeries owing to various advantages, namely, decreased airway manipulation and stable hemodynamics. Aims: We compared the efficacy in terms of oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP) and safety of laryngeal mask airway (LMA)-Supreme (LMA-S), i-gel, and Baska mask in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Settings and Design: Ninety patients posted for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy were selected for a prospective randomized comparative study in a tertiary care center. Materials and Methods: The study comprised three groups of 30 each based on the different SADs used Group-LS with LMA-Supreme, Group-IG with i-gel, and Group-BM with Baska mask. The secondary objectives were device insertion time, ease of insertion, changes in the peak airway pressure (PAP), heart rate, mean arterial pressure, and airway complications (sore throat, dysphagia. dysphonia, lip/tongue or dental injury, etc.) between three groups. Statistical Analysis: The quantitative data were analyzed using the one-way analysis of variance test and Bonferroni post hoc multiple comparison test. Qualitative data were compared using Chi-squared test. Results: OLP was significantly higher ( P = 0.005) in the Baska mask than i-gel and LMA-S groups just after insertion and during carboperitonium. There was no significant difference in time for device insertion, number of attempts, ease of insertion, and use of manipulation ( P > 0.05). However, the gastric tube insertion time was significantly lower in Group BM (9.59 ± 2.78) than Group IG with 12.79 ± 3.47 and Group LS with 10.84 ± 3.68 ( P < 0.05). There were no significant differences between the groups with regard to changes in the PAP, heart rate, mean arterial pressure at different time intervals, and complications. Conclusion: Baska mask provided a significantly higher OLP compared to i-gel and LMA-S without significant airway morbidity in laparoscopic surgeries.

Abstract:Background and Aims: Supraglottic airway devices have several roles including maintenance of a clear upper airway during general anesthesia. We primarily compared the efficacy of Baska mask (BM) and laryngeal mask airway supreme (LMAS) for the rate of first time successful placement and the seal pressure. The secondary outcome measures included laryngopharyngeal morbidity and the correct positioning of the gastric port. Material and Methods: A sample size of 30 was calculated in each study group. A total of 70 study participants were included in the statistical analysis of which 36 patients were in the BM group and 34 patients were in the LMAS group. Results: The BM was successfully inserted in 28 patients (77.8%), whereas LMAS was successfully inserted in 33 patients (97.1%) in the first attempt ( P = 0.028). The mean oropharyngeal seal pressure in the BM group was higher (33.28 ± 6.80 cm H 2 O) than compared to the LMAS group (27.47 ± 2.34 cm H 2 O) with a P value <0.001. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of postoperative laryngopharyngeal morbidity both in the immediate postoperative period ( P = 0.479) and that seen 24 hours post operatively ( P = 0.660). The nasogastric tube could easily be inserted in the entire study population. Conclusion: From the present study, it is concluded that the BM creates a higher oropharyngeal seal pressure than the LMAS. However, the BM is more difficult to insert. The incidence of postoperative laryngopharyngeal morbidity is similar in both groups.

Abstract:A Laryngeal Mask Airway (LMA) has two parts, a simple breathing tube and a mask. The mask at the laryngeal end of the tube aligns against the glottis and provides better channel of ventilation than the face mask. There have been modifications in the basic design of the LMA to incorporate gastric drainage channel and some devices are also equipped with a channel for intubation to secure airway by guiding endotracheal tube (ETT) through it. In this study we evaluated the performance of two LMA devices that can aid in rescue ventilation and are also equipped with a channel for intubation namely the BlockBuster LMA(2012) and the Fastrach/ Intubating LMA(1997) for blind oro-tracheal intubation in terms of First attempt success rate and Over-all success rate of intubation. A hundred consenting patients of age group 18-60 years and ASA status I or II, were randomly allocated into two groups Group BB (BlockBuster LMA) and Group FT (Fastrach LMA) with 50 patients each. Standard anesthesia technique was used for both groups. After insertion of airway device, cuff was inflated and ventilation was attempted (maximum 2 attempts). Once ventilation was achieved, ETT of appropriate size was inserted through LMA (maximum 2 attempts). The correct placement of ETT was confirmed by capnography. Data was collected for number of attempts of tracheal intubation, time taken for intubation and complications. First attempt success rate of intubation was more in Blockbuster LMA than Fastrach LMA. Over-all success rate of Intubation was 100% for both devices. Time taken for intubation and incidence of post-operative sore throat was less in BlockBuster LMA than Fastrach LMA(p-value<0.05). Blockbuster LMA is better conduit for oro-tracheal intubation than Fastrach LMA in terms of higher first attempt success rate, lesser time taken for intubation and lesser post-operative complications.
Effect of Different Insertion Methods on LMA Protector-Related Complications: A Prospective Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Trail

Abstract:Objective: The authors compared the effect of 2 insertion methods, namely the conventional laryngeal mask airway (LMA) insertion and the index finger-assisted LMA insertion, on the incidence of complications associated with LMA Protector insertion. Methods: The authors enrolled 300 patients, who underwent painless bronchoscopy. The patients ranged in age between 18 and 75 and were classified as American Society of Anesthesiologists grade I to III. They were randomly divided into 2 groups: a control group of 150 patients and an assisted group comprising 150 patients. LMA was inserted using the conventional and index finger-assisted insertion methods in both groups, respectively. The primary outcome was postoperative complications, such as oral mucosal injury and pharyngeal pain. Secondary outcomes included the success rate of first-time insertion, the incidence rate of inverse folding of LMA tips, oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP), and other postoperative complications. Results: Compared with the conventional LMA insertion method, index finger-assisted LMA insertion can significantly reduce the incidence rate of oral mucosal injury and pharyngeal pain, with fewer insertion failures. There was a statistically significant difference between the 2 groups in the visual field grading before adjustment for LMA alignment (P<0.0001). The conventional insertion method increased the likelihood of inverse folding of LMA tips. When the conventional insertion method was utilized, there was a significant difference in airway pressure and tidal volume before and after alignment under a fiberoptic bronchoscope (P<0.0001), but no significant difference in visual field grading and respiratory mechanics-related indicators. Conclusions: Index finger-assisted insertion can significantly reduce the incidence rate of LMA Protector-related complications and inverse folding of LMA tips.
