Abstract:The growth of new image technologies has created a need for techniques that can be used for copyright protection of digital images and video. One approach for copyright protection is to introduce an invisible signal, known as a digital watermark, into an image or video sequence. With the development of MPEG-4, frame-based approach has been migrating to object-based approach. Therefore, object-based watermarking schemes are needed. In this article, we propose a novel blind object watermarking scheme for images and video using shape adaptive-discrete wavelet transform (SA-DWT). To make the watermark robust and perceptual invisible, we embed it in the weighting mean of the wavelet blocks using the quantisation visual model based on the human visual system. Watermark detection is accomplished without the original, unwatermarked object by using statistical detection technique. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed watermarking scheme is perceptual invisible and robust against many attacks such as lossy image/video compression (e.g. JPEG, JPEG2000 and MPEG-4), scaling, adding noise, filtering, D/A and A/D conversion, etc.

Abstract:Nowadays, one of the most common approaches for video watermarking is to use singular value decomposition in the discrete wavelet transform domain. In our prior work, we formulated a video watermarking problem to achieve the maximum peak signal to noise ratio as an optimization problem. It chooses wavelet coefficient points in key frames with minimum distortion cost. Yet the existing solution has two drawbacks (1) it requires to store a large number of coordinates depending on the watermark size; (2) it is vulnerable to video frame attacks on the video frame texture area. To avoid them, this paper proposes a blockchain-based approach. Its main concept is to choose wavelet coefficient blocks in key frames and leverage blockchain to connect all the blocks. Our experimental results show that this approach is memory efficient because it only requires to store a single key for a key frame, which is independent of the watermark size; and the overall robustness is greatly improved due to the randomness of the hash function used in the blockchain. Hence, this work had made novel and significant contributions to the field of video watermarking. (c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:With the function enhancement of video editing software,video contents tampering and forging become more and more easier,which makes the user difficult to distinguish the authenticity of video content.So it may lead to serious consequences when it comes to forensic evidence,medical expertise,military intelligence,national security,and so on.Up to now,most of the existing researches focus on the identification of video content under the first compression or recompression.But after videos are published in compressed form,it often undergo decoding,conventional signal processing,and encoded again by modifying GOP(Group of Pictures) and QP (Quantization Parameters).Under the secondary compression condition above,how to effectively determine the authenticity of video content is an urgent problem.Therefore,we propose a watermarking algorithm,based on quantitatively modulating the contribution rate of the singular value,for video content authentication.(1) By extracting features and embedding watermark in the 2nd level DWT (Wavelet Transform Discrete) domain for each sub-block from the video luminance component,the consistency between the reconstructed features and extracted watermark can be promoted in the whole;(2) The low frequency domain in the 2nd level DWT is selected to embed the watermark by using a novel algorithm based on quantitatively modulating the contribution rate of the first singular,which achieves watermark transparency and the robustness tolerating the second video compression.The core content of authentication algorithm based on digital watermarking is the stability of hidden information which is embodied by watermark algorithm.Because the stability of the proposed watermark comes from all the singular values,rather than part of the singular value,algorithm of this paper have obvious advantages in robustness;(3) The video content features based on energy relations can maintain a higher stability after the secondary compression;(4) The security and accuracy of the algorithm are improved respectively by crossing watermark and neighborhood decision.In addition,in this paper,the security of the proposed algorithm is analyzed theoretically,including cryptanalysis,collage attack,quantization attack and targeted forgery attack.And the theoretical analysis shows that the proposed algorithm can resist forgery attack,collage attack and some other attacks,and the robustness of the watermark is 0.96 under the condition of the secondary compression without malicious tampering.Finally,the experiment is carried out aiming at the transparency of watermark,the impact on bit rate and the robustness of attack.And the experimental results show that the influence of watermark embedding on visual quality is decreased by 1.3％,and that on bit rate is increased by 8.41％;that the proposed watermarking scheme can effectively distinguish malicious manipulations from the content-preserving operator after secondary compression for H.264/AVC video,and locate the position tampered.Also,through the performance comparison of related schemes,it further demonstrates the advantage of this algorithm for video content authentication under the condition of secondary compression.

Abstract:With the rise of short video and the development of self-media, video has become a type of frequently used data, thus the protection of video data is particularly important. Digital watermarking is a very effective digital authentication and copyright protection technology that hides a piece of data called watermark into digital multimedia content. However, most existing video watermark algorithms fail to deal with the videos under geometric distortions, and they only focus on copyright protection, ignoring the task of tamper detection. This paper proposes a multipurpose video watermarking algorithm that is resistant to rotation and scaling attacks while providing both copyright protection and tamper detection. We design a DFT template embedding method to make the watermarking algorithm resistant to rotation and scaling attacks efficiently. This method can detect the rotation and scaling that the video has undergone during the watermark extraction process, and then extract the copyright watermark information based on geometric correction. In addition, we propose a robust watermark embedding method with tamper detection function, which embeds copyright watermark information with validation bits in the DCT coefficients of I frames. By embedding the copyright watermark block by block, the algorithm can not only improve the robustness, but also enable the system to detect tampering. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm has good robustness to various attacks such as compression, filtering, rotation, scaling, frame rate changing and other inter-frame operations, and it outperforms previous geometrically robust algorithm by an average of 12.8% under geometric attacks on the normalized correlation values. Also, we show that our algorithm is effective in tamper detection by localizing the distorted areas in the video frames.

Abstract:The contemporary context of abundant digital dissemination inherently gives rise to the need for media protection and the clear identification of ownership rights. This paper responded to this nagging issue of unauthorized media capture by developing a new digital watermarking approach uniting the Discrete Wavelet Transform DWT, Discrete Cosine Transform DCT, and Schur matrix factorization. The proposed watermark, which was a positive vector uniformly distributed, presented a high degree of robustness to several adversarial operating conditions, including histogram equalization, salt and pepper noise, ripple impact, smoothing attack, and cropping. The obtained results reveal the effectiveness of our approach. The correlation coefficient between watermarked and original images remains exceptionally high at 0.999998, ensuring minimal visual distortion. Mean Squared Error (MSE) graphs for both high-frequency (HH) and low-frequency (LL) domains demonstrate negligible changes after attacks, confirming the watermark's robustness. Notably, the watermark extraction process remains successful even after histogram equalization, as indicated by significantly lower MSE compared to random vectors. Moreover, the average processing times for different attacks are promising; Histogram Equalization and Salt and Pepper attacks each took 0.3 s, Ripple Attack required 0.28 s, Smoothing Attack completed in 0.29 s, and the Cropping Attack took 0.6 s. The robustness of our approach appears against the salt and pepper attack, which historically presented a vulnerability when employing Schur matrix factorization in image watermarking, indicating the novelty of and this contribution to improving media ownership verification. By combining disparate transformation methodologies, this technique offers a promising avenue for reinforcing the integrity and authenticity of digital media, thereby strengthening the foundations of intellectual property rights in the digital domain.

Abstract:In the past, the improvement of digital copyright protection system based on digital watermarking mainly focused on algorithms, while generation and storage of the watermark information was ignored. In this paper, a new design scheme of copyright management system based on digital watermarking and its information, such as blockchain, is proposed, which combines digital watermarking, blockchain, perceptual hash function, Quick Response(QR) code, and InterPlanetary File System(IPFS). Among them, blockchain is used to securely store watermark information and provide timestamp authentication for multiple watermarks (multiple copyrights) to confirm the creation order. Perceptual hash function is used to generate hash value based on the structure information of images, that watermark information can be confirmed without the original image. QR code is used to generate QR code images containing image hash and copyright information as watermark images to improve robustness and capacity of digital watermarking; IPFS is used to store and distribute watermarked images without a centralized server. This scheme can enhance the effectiveness of digital watermarking technology in the field of copyright protection. In this way, use P2P network to integrate and complete copyright management and distribution of copyrighted works without requiring a trusted third party. Nodes rely on cryptography to confirm the identity of each other and ensure the security of information. It can reduce information leakage, data destruction and other risks caused by collapse of the centralized system in the past. This improves the security and transparency of information, and speeds up the distribution of copyrighted works to facilitate circulation in the network. This scheme can also improve copyright protection of multiple creations. Combine blockchain and multiple digital watermarks to record copyright information of every copyright owner in the authoring process and fully prove this information. In order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of each copyright owner.

Abstract:Generally, image protection is often accomplished by digital watermark, which is also widely used in the field of data protection and data ownership authentication. However, the existing digital watermark has inherent disadvantages, it needs completely trusted third parties to act as the arbitration parties, which may be difficult to achieve. Second, an image watermark algorithm will inevitably lead to the loss of image data when operating on the image data, while it is usually irreversible. The zero-watermark algorithm can solve the problem of data loss but relies more on the trusted third party than a traditional digital watermark, which makes its prospects limited. With the development of blockchain technology in recent years, its features of de-trusted third parties combine the fairness and process automation of smart contracts to make up for the shortcomings of the zero-watermarking algorithm. This paper studies image storage and authentication frameworks. This framework utilizes the advantages of zero-watermarking algorithm and blockchain, using the Inter-Planetary File System to solve the data expansion problem of blockchain, which well avoids the shortcomings of zero-watermarking algorithm and blockchain. Experiment and inference illustrate that the proposed framework is feasible.

The multimedia blockchain: A distributed and tamper-proof media transaction framework

Abstract:A distributed and tamper proof media transaction framework is proposed based on the blockchain model. Current multimedia distribution does not preserve self-retrievable information of transaction trails or content modification histories. For example, digital copies of valuable artworks, creative media and entertainment contents are distributed for various purposes including exhibitions, gallery collections or in media production workflow. Original media is often edited for creative content preparation or tampered with to fabricate false propaganda over social media. However there is no existing trusted mechanism that can easily retrieve either the transaction trails or the modification histories. We propose a novel watermarking based Multimedia Blockchain framework that can address such issues. The unique watermark information contains two pieces of information: a) a cryptographic hash that contains transaction histories (blockchain transactions log) and b) an image hash that preserves retrievable original media content. Once the watermark is extracted, first part of the watermark is passed to a distributed ledger to retrieve the historical transaction trail and the latter part is used to identify the edited/tampered regions. The paper outlines the requirements, the challenges and demonstrates the proof of this concept.

Abstract:The legitimate owner interests protection of traditional digital videos has become an increasingly demand with the rapid development of internet video applications. The development of Blockchain, which provides decentralization, traceability, and high credibility attributes has provided a technical inspiration for digital video legitimate interests protection. In this paper, we propose a novel and effective security protection framework by hiding secret data in the digital video of the Blockchain network. On the Blockchain network side, we upload the secret data referred to video to Blockchain network; on the traditional server side, we use smart contract to manipulate the procedures of embedding and extraction of secret data which has been embedded into digital video. Then, we could verify, trace and protect the secret data which are stored into Blockchain network and digital video contents itself, respectively. It is proven that the proposed framework could achieve high efficiency and accurate performance on digital video security protection.

Abstract:This article proposes a new digital watermarking mechanism based on the Ethereum blockchain, Smart Contract, and Interplanetary File System (IPFS), with an enhanced Fast Walsh Hadamard Transform (FWHT) algorithm for watermark embedding and extraction. The proposed scheme aims to address the limitations of existing digital watermarking techniques, such as dependence on third-party platforms, by leveraging the decentralization feature of blockchain. The Smart Contract is used to manage the transaction between the parties involved in the watermarking process, while IPFS is used to store the watermark data. The enhanced FWHT algorithm is used to embed the watermark into the host image without affecting its visual quality. The results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of both imperceptibility and robustness. Additionally, it demonstrates that our scheme can effectively resist various attacks. Therefore, our scheme can be a promising solution for image copyright protection, authentication applications, and image trading.

Abstract:The technologies of multimedia compression, copyright protection and content authentication are essential to the booming multimedia industry. Watermarking schemes for compressed video are effective solutions to the video industry. In this paper, we first present a hybrid video compression scheme that adopts both scalar quantisation and transform domain vector quantisation, and then a multipurpose watermarking algorithm for the hybrid compressed video is proposed. The digital fingerprint, robust and fragile watermarks are embedded in different parts of the compressed video stream to accomplish the multiple purposes of copyright protection, pirate tracing and content authentication. We first demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed video compression scheme by comparing it with the H.263 compression standard, and then we evaluate the robustness and fragility of the proposed multipurpose watermarking algorithm against conventional attacks.

Abstract:With the explosive advancement of modern technology we heavily rely upon digital data in the form of video and image. Digital content has been the norm for quite a few years in all aspects of modern society for ease of use and conveniences. Relevant visual information may be utilised in a range of settings, such as the media, law enforcement, publications, legal procedures, medical imaging, the military, and consumer museums. Though the development of advanced technology with the help of sophisticated artificial intelligence(AI) algorithms have opened the door to temper digital data and contents. [1] This misinterpretation of advanced technology has made the integrity of the video/image file questionable. [2] In the context of using the video/image file in court or any other places for presenting proof have been disputable. In thisresearch article I present a framework for verifying the authenticity of video/image using blockchain technology. Using this framework the deep-fake problems can be countered and a layer of trust can be established verifying the integrity of the visual contents. The IoT device capturing the image or video file computes a hash before the data leaves the device. Then the hash is stored in a blockchain system to provide a transparent way to check the integrity of the file.

Abstract:In this paper, we explore video blockchain for establishing connectivity among vehicles in a smart city through utilizing blockchain technology. By leveraging intelligent vehicular systems that provide location-based visualization through multiple deployed cameras in vehicles, we expand the scope of collecting video surveillance data for observation, thereby enhancing overall situational awareness. We utilize the decentralized nature of blockchain to implement a vehicle-based surveillance system across a smart city. To ensure reliability, the integration of two cryptographic functions, hashing and signing, with the blockchain is employed. This integration ensures secure and tamper-proof solutions for the existing intelligent surveillance system. In this paper, our primary focus is on combining blockchain technology to achieve sustainable and robust smart solutions for intelligent vehicular distributed video networks while eliminating the need for third-party intermediaries. Through extensive experiments and analysis, we demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of our proposed video blockchain approach. The results indicate that this innovative framework provides enhanced security, privacy, and scalability for intelligent vehicular distributed networks in smart cities, paving the way for a connected and efficient urban environment.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce a scheme for detecting manipulated audio and video. The scheme is a synthesis of blockchains, encrypted spread spectrum watermarks, perceptual hashing and digital signatures, which we call an Embedded Blockchain. Within this scheme, we use the blockchain for its data structure of a cryptographically linked list, cryptographic hashing for absolute comparisons, perceptual hashing for flexible comparisons, digital signatures for proof of ownership, and encrypted spread spectrum watermarking to embed the blockchain into the background noise of the media. So each media recording has its own unique blockchain, with each block holding information describing the media segment. The problem of verifying the integrity of the media is recast to traversing the blockchain, block-by-block, and segment-by-segment of the media. If any chain is broken, the difference in the computed and extracted perceptual hash is used to estimate the level of manipulation.

Abstract:With the growing use of the digital world and its associated challenges, the use of digital watermarking is a popular and appropriate way of protecting digital content against illegal distribution. Recently, the rapid development of Biology Information Technology and the use of biological systems have attracted the particular attention of computer security experts. For example, the linking of watermarking with chaotic mapping and DNA sequences is a relatively new field that is the subject of research these days. The purpose of this paper is to provide a new algorithm for digital video watermarking based on a combination of chaotic systems, Cellular Automata (CA), and DNA sequences. The proposed method in this paper is a practical application for copyright protection of digital videos with watermarking. The above-mentioned watermarking scheme is blind and consists of methods for Contourlet Transform (CT) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) with the condition of insertion into low-frequency sub-bands. Here, one-dimensional chaotic automata based on DNA with the ability of parallel implementation of various CA rules is designed. Finally, the proposed method is evaluated using common statistical criteria such as PSNR, NCC, and BER, and the results show the high resistance of the proposed algorithm to various types of attacks.

Robust Adaptive Video Watermarking In The Spatial Domain

Abstract:In this paper, a novel adaptive approach to spatial domain video watermarking is presented. It takes full advantage of both intra-frame and inter-frame information of video content to guarantee the perceptual invisibility and robustness of the watermark. An effective block classifier is delicately designed based on motion information and region complexity. Meanwhile, the idea of bitplane replacement is introduced in the embedding procedure. In the watermark extraction process, the multi-frame based extraction strategy ensures that the watermark can be correctly recovered from a very short segment of video. Individual frames extracted from the video also contain watermark information. Experimental results show that the watermarked video appears visually indistinguishable from the original video, and the proposed watermarking technique is robust enough to common video attacks.

Abstract:Blockchain technology has drawn attention fromvarious communities. The underlying consensus mechanism inBlockchain enables a myriad of applications for the integrityassurance of stored data. In this paper, we utilize Blockchaintechnology to verify the authenticity of a video captured by astreaming IoT device for forensic investigation purposes. Theproposed approach computes the hash of video frames beforethey leave the IoT device and are transferred to a remote basestation. To guarantee the transmission, we ensure that this hashis sent through a TCP-based connection. The hash is then storedon multiple nodes on a permissioned blockchain platform. Incase the video is modified, the discrepancy will be detected byinvestigating the previously stored hash on the blockchain andcomparing it with the hash of the existing frame in question.In this work, we present the prototype as proof-of-concept withexperiment results. The system has been tested on a RaspberryPi with different quality of videos to evaluate performance. Theresults show that the concept can be implemented with moderatevideo resolutions.

Abstract:In today's digital era, the need to safeguard the authenticity and ownership of media content shared online via social networking sites and apps has become increasingly crucial. Digital watermarking emerges as a viable solution to address this need by providing authentication and ownership verification of digital media. Various watermarking techniques have been proposed in spatial and transformation domains, with ongoing efforts to enhance robustness against common watermarking attacks, such as filtering, noise, and transformations. In this paper, we introduce a novel block-based parallelized watermarking method. Our proposed approach hides binary watermarks within grayscale images by employing multi-level discrete wavelet transformation on image blocks in parallel. A pixel scramble mechanism is also employed to strengthen security measures. The effectiveness of the proposed method is evaluated using three quality metrics: structural similarity index measure and peak signal-to-noise ratio to assess the imperceptibility of watermarked images and normalized correlation to evaluate the robustness of our approach against standard watermarking attacks. Experimental results show that our method achieves high PSNR values of up to 48.63 dB and SSIM values above 0.99, indicating excellent imperceptibility. Additionally, NC values close to 1.0 across various attack scenarios demonstrate superior robustness compared to existing methods.

Abstract:In this paper, a new robust and secure video watermarking scheme based on discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), singular value decomposition (SVD), and Laplacian pyramid is proposed for copyright protection applications. The main contributions of this work are: 1) Increasing watermark robustness towards common signal processing attacks by separating the watermark image into a high-frequency image and a low-frequency image using laplacian pyramid. Then, the singular values of each of the low-frequency watermark image and the high-frequency watermark image are hidden in two different DWT subbands of the original video frame. Separating the watermark and hiding its two parts in two different subbands of the DWT of the video frame makes it robust towards noise, filtering, and compression attacks. 2) Improving the quality of the extracted watermarks via correcting the received watermarked videos using SURF points when those videos are geometrically attacked, mainly by rotation, scaling, and shear attacks. 3) Increasing security and avoiding false positive problems (FPP) associated with SVD by using perceptual image hashing in the proposed scheme. Through experimental results and comparisons to other techniques, the proposed scheme has shown very high imperceptibility for the tested watermarked videos in terms of peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR). Also, the proposed scheme has demonstrated high watermark robustness towards various types of attacks, and an improvement in the quality of the extracted watermarks from 4 to 20 dB compared to other techniques.
