Abstract:Background: Missing teeth negatively affect oral functions and masticatory efficiency, which in turn can reduce a person's quality of life (QoL). This study is aimed at evaluating the effect of dental prostheses on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults. Materials and methods: This is an observational study to measure patients' OHRQoL using a cohort study design before and after treatment with different dental prostheses (fixed and removable). Ninety-seven patients who received dental prostheses responded to a questionnaire before dental prosthetic treatment and then after the completion of the treatment. The conduction was face-to-face or via telephone interviews. The questionnaire is divided into two parts to verify the demographic and the patient's related factors and to measure OHRQoL using the Oral Health Impact Profile-5 (OHIP-5). Results: Descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, and multivariable analysis were conducted using Stata Statistical Software: Release 14.2 (2016; StataCorp LLC, College Station, Texas, United States) and were at a 0.05 significance level. Data were collected from the 97 patients, of which 70% were male with a mean age of 39.5 and 30% were female with a mean age of 43. The educational level showed that only 15% of the patients received a bachelor's degree and that the remaining 85% stopped at a high school general educational level. The received prosthetic treatment consisted of 23% single crowns, 29% fixed partial dentures (FPD), 20% removable partial dentures (RPD), and 28% complete dentures. Self-reported overall health indicated that 64% of the patients had very good health and 36% had good health or a lower quality of health. There was a significant difference in OHIP scores before prosthetic treatment (M=5.4, SD=0.57) and after prosthetic treatment (M=3.2, SD=0.49) with no significant difference in the reduction in OHIP scores between fixed prostheses (M=-2.8, SD=0.64) and removable prostheses (M=-1.5, SD=0.74). The amount of improvement in OHIP answers after wearing a prosthesis was significant (p<0.0001). Linear regression indicated that having a history of discomfort from general oral health improved (decreased OHIP score) by 2.2 after prosthetic dental treatment compared to participants without a history of general oral health discomfort when all other variables are held constant. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that restoration of missing teeth with a dental prosthesis has an immense impact on individuals' QoL, regardless of the type of dental prosthetic restoration.

Abstract:Background: The treatment strategy for patients with severe tooth wear associated with Class II Division 2 malocclusion remains a major challenge for dental practitioners. Objectives: To systematically review and summarize the literature on treatment strategies, restoration procedures and clinical outcomes for Class II Division 2 malocclusion patients with severe tooth wear. Methods: A literature review was conducted using Pubmed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science to identify eligible articles. Publications until October 16th, 2023 were searched independently and cross-checked by two researchers. Results: Of 1513 articles screened, 10 reports detailed treatment processes, including six males and four females aged 34-68 years old. Four articles recorded pre-treatment freeway space (FWS) values ranging from 5 to 9 mm. All ten cases had significant occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) loss and the increase in OVD after treatment ranged from 1 to 7 mm. Pre-prosthetic orthodontic treatment was performed in two cases, in one of which only the maxillary region was orthodontically treated. The most common restorations provided were full coverage restorations. In most cases, temporary restorations were applied before the permanent restorations for eight weeks to six months. Four different sequences of final restoration were proposed. Follow-up ranged from four months to six years and included seven patients, one of them showed symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Conclusions: A multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach to treatment is recommended. Consideration of pre-prosthetic orthodontic treatment is essential. Commonly used cephalometric measurements for anterior teeth include the interincisal angle and collum angle. The increases in OVD ranging from 1 to 7 mm can be effectively accommodated. Temporary restorations are recommended to accommodate the OVD, and the transition periods of 8 weeks to 6 months help the patients adapted well. Four different sequences for final rehabilitation have demonstrated positive clinical outcomes. Full crown restorations have emerged as the preferred choice for the ultimate restoration of these patients.
Oral Health-Related Quality of Life in Temporomandibular Disorder Patients and Healthy Subjects—A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:(1) Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) signs and symptoms affect the quality of life of patients because they impose an incapacity to participate in daily life activities, causing both physical and psychological discomfort. This review aims to provide the most accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date description of all information available regarding OHRQoL in TMD. (2) Methods: A systematic search of articles from January 2013 till August 2023 was performed on five databases to identify articles, including TMD and oral health-related quality of life. Two calibrated reviewers performed the search following inclusion and exclusion criteria. A manual search of reference articles was also performed. The data were analyzed qualitatively by combining a meta-analysis and GRADE evidence. The Newcastle–Ottawa scale for cross-sectional and case-control studies was utilized to assess the quality of the included studies. (3) Results: The initial search consisted of 738 articles without the removal of duplicates. Fifteen articles were included in this systematic review, and ten were included in the meta-analysis. Almost all the included observational studies reported poor OHRQoL among patients with different types of TMD. The results of the meta-analysis with a standard mean difference (SMD) and that included seven studies suggest high heterogeneity with I2 = 99%, SMD (95% CI) = 3.18 (1.90, 4.46), p-value < 0.01. The odds ratio analyzed for three included articles in the meta-analysis reported statistical significance (p-value < 0.01) with OR = 8.21 (2.39, 28.25) and a heterogeneity of 86%. The certainty of evidence by GRADE resulted in a downgraded level of evidence, indicating that the OHRQoL of TMD patients may differ slightly from the healthy controls. (4) Conclusions: The impact of OHRQoL on the TMD was deemed to be significant. Overall, the OHRQoL is low for any type and intensity of pain among TMD patients and controls.

Abstract:Masticatory performance is considered an important step in the beginning of the digestive process and considering the patient’s aesthetic and functional factors, it is necessary to choose appropriate treatments. Based on the evidence during orthodontic treatment, the restoration of the physiological function of masticatory performance should not be neglected. The present study aimed to evaluate the association between orthodontic treatment and improved masticatory performance and oral health related to quality of life. In the present study, all articles published till the end of August 2023 were extracted by two trained researchers independently through a search in databases like PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, ISI, Web of Knowledge, Elsevier, Wiley, and Embase, and Google Scholar search engine using keywords and their combinations. Data analysis was done using the fixed effects model in a meta-analysis, by STATA (version 17); a P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Based on the results, the mean difference in masticatory performance between pre-treatment and post-treatment was 2.23 (MD: 2.23; 95CI, 2.17, 2.29. p<0.01; I2= 99.98%; p<0.01). The mean difference in oral health related to quality of life between pre-treatment and post-treatment was -32.23 (MD: -32.23; 95CI, -33.35, -31.11. p<0.01; I2= 97%; p<0.01). Orthodontic treatment had a positive effect on masticatory performance and improved the quality of life of patients after treatment.

Abstract:Background/Objectives: Root canal treatment (RCT) is a crucial procedure for preserving dental health. While its clinical success rates are well documented, patient-reported outcomes regarding quality of life remain less explored. This study aimed to assess the long-term impact of RCT performed in an educational hospital on patients' oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) using the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14). Methods: A total of 1500 patients who underwent non-surgical RCT between April 2018 and February 2023 were called and invited for a follow-up visit. During the visit, all teeth that had undergone RCT were assessed clinically and radiographically by two calibrated examiners to evaluate RCT quality and pre- and post-treatment periapical index (PAI) scores. Demographic information and OHIP-14 responses were collected, and the data were recorded. Results: Patients reported high levels of satisfaction (95%) and no negative impact on their OHRQoL. Statistical analysis revealed that post-operative periapical index (PAI) scores (p < 0.001), patient gender (p = 0.003) and nationality (p = 0.029) significantly influenced OHRQoL perceptions; Conclusion: These findings emphasize the effectiveness of RCT in enhancing patients' quality of life and highlight the impact of demographic factors—such as gender and whether the patient is a resident or a national of the country, along with post-treatment severity of the disease—on patient-reported outcomes.

Oral-Health-Related Quality of Life in Elderly Edentulous Patients with Full-Arch Rehabilitation Treatments: A Systematic Review

Abstract:Background: The improvement of oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) with different types of prosthesis for completely edentulous jaws in the elderly population is a critical factor in clinical decision making for these vulnerable patients. This review aims to evaluate the changes in OHRQoL after treatment with different types of full-arch prostheses in the elderly edentulous population to determine the prostheses that result in the greatest improvement in OHRQoL. Materials and Methods: Clinical studies of different types of full-arch prostheses that measured the OHRQoL in edentulous patients 60 years or older were searched for in the PubMed, Embase and Scopus electronic databases, with additional hand searching to summarize the outcomes of the selected studies. Result: Among the 302 identified studies, 10 studies were selected. A total of 504 patients wearing 133 complete dentures, 372 implant overdentures and 39 fixed prostheses were assessed among the selected studies. The overall OHIP and GOHAI scores were evaluated at baseline and in the 3rd, 6th, 12th and 18th months of treatment with the respective prostheses. The improved OHRQoL with overall OHIP scores associated with conventional dentures were 9.21-12.5% from the 3rd month to 1 year after treatment, whereas those associated with implant overdentures and full-arch fixed prosthesis were 9-25.26% at 1 year and 18.53-26.79 at the 18th-month follow-up, respectively. The increased overall GOHAI scores were 21.3-25.43% for conventional dentures, 36.82-41.32% for implant overdentures and 39.48-42.83% for full-arch fixed prosthesis from the 3rd month to the 6th-month follow-up. Conclusion: In general, the improvement in OHRQoL after rehabilitation with implant overdentures declined at one year, and that with full-arch fixed prosthesis declined at the 18th-month follow-up; meanwhile, the OHRQoL associated with conventional dentures improved stably up to one year, but the implant-supported prostheses resulted in an obviously greater improvement in the OHRQoL than that obtained with conventional dentures. However, studies with longer follow-up periods are still required to evaluate the long-term clinical effectiveness.

Abstract:Objective To evaluate clinical parameters that affect the performance of root‐supported overdentures (ROD) and to identify the possible factors that may affect it. Background ROD still serve as an alternative and successful treatment plan nowadays for partially edentulous patients. Nonetheless, there is not yet conclusive evidence about their clinical evaluation. Materials and Methods A search strategy was developed following a PIO (Population, Intervention, Outcome) framework including an electronic search in the following databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library and Scopus. The systematic search included only randomised controlled clinical trials (RCTs), published until January 2023 in English language and was performed by two independent reviewers. Quality assessment of the included studies was conducted according to the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. Results The final selection of studies included 11 RCTs. Clinically relevant variables derived from this search were: Complications, with caries being the most frequently reported, periodontal aspects and bone changes around abutment teeth. Additionally, methods and clinical suggestions for the maintenance of these restorations and patient‐related outcomes were assessed. According to the risk of bias assessment, nine studies were considered of high risk, whereas only 2 of low risk. A meta‐analysis was not feasible. Conclusion Within the limitations of this systematic review, ROD remain a viable treatment plan, offering better denture stability and bone preservation around abutment teeth and high patient satisfaction. Thorough oral hygiene and regular follow‐ups are of utmost importance. Further well‐designed RCTs are necessary for firmer conclusions.

Abstract:From the contexts of current social, educational and health policy, there appears to be an increasingly inevitable “mobilisation” of resources in medicine and health as the use mobile technology devices and applications becomes widespread and culturally “normed” in workplaces. Over the past 8 years, students from the University of Leeds Medical School have been loaned mobile devices and smartphones and been given access to mobile-based resources to assist them with learning and assessments as part of clinical activity in placement settings. Our experiences lead us to suggest that educators should be focusing less on whether mobile learning should be implemented and more on developing mobile learning in curricula that is comprehensive, sustainable, meaningful and compulsory, in order to prepare students for accessing and using such resources in their working lives.

Abstract:Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in speech characteristics and self-perceived quality of speech in tooth wear patients, after occlusal rehabilitation. Materials and methods Patients with tooth wear were included in this study after informed consent. The amount of tooth wear was scored with Tooth Wear Evaluation System (TWES). To assess the perspective of the patient, the Dutch Speech Handicap Index was used (SHI). Acoustic analysis was performed to evaluate changes with the use of voice recordings. These were made before treatment, T 0 ; directly after treatment, T 1 ; 1 month after treatment, T 2 . With the use of PRAAT software, the spectral characteristic centre of gravity (COG) was evaluated for the sounds /s/, /f/, /v/, /d/, /t/, /m/. Results Recordings of 17 patients (14 men, 3 women, mean age 41.2 ± 10.4 years) were included. SHI scores did not change significantly between T 0 and T 2 ( p = 0.054). A multiple regression model showed that for all sounds the intercept was negative, but statistically significant only for /s/ and /f/ between T 0 and T 1 . The effect of the initial change (between T 0 and T 1 ) on the change between T 1 and T 2 was clearly negative for all sounds ( p < 0.001), showing a rebound effect ranging between 29 and 68% of the initial change. Conclusion Tooth wear patients perceive improvement in speech function after treatment. Clinical significance Clinicians may explain to patients that speech is likely to alter for a short period due to treatment but that there will be a good adaption to the new situation.

Abstract:Background: The current systematic review examines the complex picture of endodontic treatment, including quality of life, patient satisfaction, and caries prevalence, through 24 research studies conducted in various European countries. Methodology: A thorough and methodical search of the literature was carried out using five major electronic databases' predefined keywords and phrases. In strict compliance with PRISMA guidelines, this study included a variety of designs, mainly randomized and prospective studies. This review examines the challenges of endodontic treatment, examines in detail the characteristics and indications for root canal fillings, and highlights the importance of assessing health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and patient-reported experience measures (PREMs). Results: In particular, patients who undergo root canal treatment experience a statistically significant improvement in their quality of life compared to patients who choose to have their teeth extracted. Looking at prevalence rates globally reveals interesting regional differences. In particular, European and American populations perform better. These differences are due to factors such as patient compliance, better tools, and trained healthcare providers, which lead to improved HR quality of life. Conclusion: In conclusion, this systematic review highlights the need for further research to not only reveal the differences in endodontic treatment but also to match patient expectations, thereby promoting continued improvement in treatment outcomes and overall quality of life. The study found that European patients experienced significant improvements in quality of life after root canal treatment. Pain and discomfort decrease, 75% of patients experience less pain and discomfort after treatment. Additionally, the majority of patients report improvements in their lives after treatment. These findings suggest that root canal treatment is an effective way to improve the quality of life of European patients. This study highlights the importance of addressing patients' concerns and fears regarding dental procedures and improving communication and doctor-patient relationships to improve root canal treatment. Overall, this study provides a good insight into the impact of root canal treatment on the quality of life of European patients and has important implications for the development of care strategies for patients in this population.

Abstract:Introduction: The relationship between clinician-reported outcome measures (CROM) and patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) after root canal treatment is poorly understood. Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL) is a crucial PROM. Determination of the minimal important difference (MID) is critical for determining patients' perspective of treatment effectiveness, but the MID required to perceive any meaningful change in the OHRQOL after root canal treatment remains unclear. The aim of this prospective study was to investigate the relationship between the clinical outcome and OHRQOL after root canal treatment and to determine the corresponding MID values. Methods: Patients (N = 64) requiring primary nonsurgical root canal treatment were recruited. Clinical and radiographic (cone-beam computed tomography) assessment of treatment outcomes was performed at the 12-month follow-up. OHRQOL and pain were evaluated preoperatively and at the 12-month follow-up using the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 and visual analog scale, respectively. P < .05 was considered statistically significant. MID was assessed using distribution- and anchor-based approaches. Results: The final analysis included 47 patients. The clinical outcome was favorable for 92.6% of teeth. OHRQOL and pain showed significant improvement after treatment (P < .001). No significant association was found between clinical outcome and OHRQOL (P > .05). The mean Oral Health Impact Profile-14 score change (ie, 13.6) was greater than the range of MID values determined. Conclusions: Root canal treatment significantly improves OHRQOL. Improvement in the OHRQOL score was greater than the MID values determined, implying a clinically significant change. However, PROM (OHRQOL) does not appear to be correlated with CROM.
Periodontitis and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Aim: To investigate the association between periodontitis and oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults, and to compare OHRQoL across different severities of the disease. Materials and methods: Searches were conducted in five electronic databases up to December 2023. Observational studies that provided a clear definition of periodontitis and used validated measures of OHRQoL were included. Meta-analyses were performed both overall and based on factors that could explain heterogeneity between studies. Results: Sixty studies comprising 14,851 individuals were included in the review. Meta-analyses showed that periodontitis was associated with impaired OHRQoL: any OHRQoL instruments (n = 33 studies; SMD: 0.75, 95% CI: 0.53-0.93), solely using the OHIP-14 (n = 26 studies; MD: 5.14, 95% CI: 3.64-6.64), and risk assessment (n = 9 studies; adjusted RR: 1.42, 95% CI: 1.12-1.78). Stages III-IV periodontitis had a greater impact than Stages I-II periodontitis. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses indicated smaller effect size estimates for individuals with comorbidities. Conclusions: Periodontitis negatively impacts OHRQoL, with a positive score-response relationship found between periodontitis severity and poorer OHRQoL. However, the magnitude of this association appears to be diminished in individuals with comorbidities.
Patient‐reported outcome measures of edentulous patients restored with implant‐supported removable and fixed prostheses: A systematic review

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: The aim of this systematic review was to compare patient-reported outcomes measures (PROMs) of implant-supported fixed complete dentures (IFCDs) and overdentures (IODs).MATERIAL AND METHODS: PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Scopus and Web of Science were searched, complemented by manual search. Studies published in English up to November 2016 comparing removable with fixed implant-supported prosthesis on fully edentulous patients were included. The review focused on impact on patients' oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL), satisfaction or other patient-reported outcomes measures.RESULTS: Of 1,563 initially screened articles, 13 studies including 8 prospective and 5 retrospective studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria. OHRQoL and patient satisfaction were the most common PROMs. When evaluating the levels of evidence, five of thirteen studies were graded as level III and seven reached level II. The only randomized control trial was rated as Ib. The methods used to evaluate PROMs were heterogeneous among studies, and there was a lack of standardization in the measurements employed. In general, IFCD and IOD showed no significant differences when compared for PROMs, with a slight trend of IFCD being superior to IOD in most included studies. However, conflicting results were observed in many aspects such as chewing function, phonetics-related function, overall satisfaction and aesthetics.CONCLUSIONS: Inconsistent results were observed in PROMs when comparing IFCD and IOD for fully edentulous patients. A guideline for standardizing the assessment of PROMs in clinical research is needed in order to produce more meaningful evidence-based information.

Differences in treatment outcomes of definitive fixed implant-supported restorations with or without an interim restoration: A systematic review

Material and methods: A search of electronic databases (Medline and Embase) and the nonpeer-reviewed literature for randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and cohort studies in the English language was conducted. Results: Two studies met the eligibility criteria. Heterogeneity of the study methodologies and outcome measures did not allow for meta-analysis. Use of interim implant-supported restorations may improve the esthetic outcome. Occlusal loading of definitive implant-supported prosthesis without the use of an interim restoration may decrease chair time and the number of patient visits. Conclusions: The systematic review has found insufficient evidence to support or refute the practice of providing an interim restoration before delivering an implant-supported prosthesis.

Abstract:Abstract Background Oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) has become an important measure of orthodontic treatment outcome. However, it is unclear how long OHRQoL benefits manifest themselves following the removal of the orthodontic appliances. Objectives To investigate differences in OHRQoL recorded at the time of orthodontic appliance removal and three months into retention. Setting and sample Described is a prospective outcome study of 59 consecutive participants treated in a hospital-based clinic between 2015 and 2018. The patients comprised three groups: those who received orthognathic surgery (N = 15), those who had an orofacial cleft (N = 30) and those who had no-surgery/no-cleft (N = 14). Each individual completed an age-specific OHRQoL questionnaire that categorised them as either an adolescent (N = 37) or an adult (N = 22) participant. Method The OHRQoL questionnaires were completed at the time of appliance removal (T0) and again three months into retention (T1). The Child Perceptions Questionnaires (CPQ 11-14 -ISF8 and P-CPQ8) were used for adolescent participants and their parent/caregiver, respectively, while the short-form Oral Health Impact Questionnaire (OHIP-14) was used for the adults. Results The OHIP-14, CPQ 11-14 -ISF8 and P-CPQ8 detected improvements in overall and domain scores between T0 and T1 for all patient groups. Moderate effect sizes (0.2–0.7) were observed in all the domain, overall and group mean scores. Conclusions Post-treatment orthodontic OHRQoL outcomes improve over the three-month period following appliance removal. The use of these measures should be delayed beyond the immediate time of appliance removal to allow the benefits of orthodontic treatment to be appreciated.

Abstract:Background and objectives: Although the main objective of any orthodontic treatment is to correct malocclusion, a range of psychosocial and/or esthetic factors drive patients to undergo orthodontic treatment. The aim of the present study was to analyze variations in oral health-related quality of life (OHRQL) levels in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment by means of four types of appliances: fixed buccal metal brackets, fixed buccal esthetic/ceramic brackets, fixed lingual brackets, and clear aligners. Material and Methods: The study sample comprised 120 patients aged 18 to 68 years who attended the Orthodontic department at the Dental Clinic of the University of Valencia. The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) was used to measure orthodontic treatment need. Each patient completed three different intervals of the 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14): before treatment (T0); six months after placing the orthodontic appliances (T1) and at the end of orthodontic treatment (T2). Results: All groups suffered a reduction in quality of life from T0 to T1 except the metal bracket group which presented the same level for the functional limitation domain (p = 1.000), the lingual bracket group for the psychological discomfort domain (p = 1.000) and clear aligner group for the physical disability domain (p = 0.118) and psychological disability domain (p = 1.000). Nevertheless, quality of life for most domains was similar in all groups at the end of treatment (T2). Conclusions: Patients underwent a significant reduction in quality of life during treatment in comparison with their pre-treatment condition but showed significant improvements at the end of treatment.

Clinical Outcome of Indirect Bonded Porcelain Restoration Versus Full-Coverage Crown on Endodontically Treated Teeth in Posterior Areas: A Systematic Review

Abstract:The significant loss of tooth structure that occurs after dental caries and endodontic therapy is a common clinical challenge. Several methods were discussed in the literature to treat badly damaged teeth. This systematic review aims to compare the clinical outcomes of partial indirect bonded porcelain restorations to full-coverage crowns of endodontically treated teeth in posterior areas. The study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Data included in the review were identified through bibliographic research on electronic databases (PubMed/Medline, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science). The strategy was applied by searching for randomized clinical trials (RCTs), cohort studies, and case-control studies using keywords (partial indirect bonded porcelain restoration, partial indirect bonded restoration, inlay and onlay, full convergent crown, and ceramic crown). As a result of a literature search through selected databases using the keywords, 88,421 papers were identified. A total of 671 articles were related and screened for inclusion and exclusion criteria. Four hundred and eighty-two articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded. A total of 189 full-text papers were assessed, and 20 articles were included in this study. Nineteen cohort studies and one case-control study were included and assessed in this review. This study concludes that both full-coverage crowns and partial indirect bonded restorations demonstrate comparable survival rates. However, limited studies exist regarding partial indirect bonded restorations on endodontically treated teeth, indicating the need for further updated studies.
Impact of dental and orofacial trauma on oral health-related quality of life in adults: A systematic review

Abstract:Purpose: Dental and orofacial trauma among the adult population constitutes a major public health problem. The impact is not just physical but also psychological. To analyse the impacts of dental and orofacial trauma on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adults and determine whether the 2 variables are closely interlinked. Methods: This is a systematic review. The terms "dental trauma", "orofacial trauma", "oral health", "oral health related impact life", "OHRQoL", "positive and negative affect scale", "quality of life", "facial injuries", "adults", and "young adults" were researched in the databases of PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus and Google Scholar for associated studies up to December 30, 2022. A comprehensive search was designed and the articles were independently screened for eligibility by 2 reviewers. The included studies' author, year of publication, the country where the study was conducted, population demographics (number and age), an instrument used for assessing OHRQoL and the relevant result were recorded and compared. The quality of the evidence was assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute checklist for observational studies. Results: Out of 482 unique records, 3 articles were included for data extraction. Observational studies were included. Two studies did not mention confounding factors. Different scales were used for dental and orofacial trauma and OHRQoL. OHRQoL has a directly proportional relationship with orofacial trauma. Adolescents with orofacial trauma have a significant impact on this value with a prevalence of 88.4%. Conclusion: The highest impact on OHRQoL was seen immediately after the diagnosis of an orofacial trauma. The impact increases with the severity of the trauma. Therefore, to promote overall dental and general health, health education initiatives should include information on the causes, prevention, and requirement for prompt responses by the populace in seeking dental intervention.
