Abstract:The determination of porosity heterogeneity within hydrocarbon reservoirs is important because cost-effective, efficient production of hydrocarbons depends on accurate knowledge of reserve estimates, and hydrocarbon distribution. A new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique, based on the conical SPRITE (Single-Point Ramped Imaging with T1 Enhancement) MRI method is capable of revealing the three-dimensional geometry of porosity distribution in core samples taken from reservoir rocks. Porosity heterogeneity at the core scale is difficult to assess by conventional petrophysical methods. Conventional MRI methods also fail because of complications associated with the multi-exponential nature of spin-spin relaxation time decay and restrictions on the minimal echo time. The SPRITE MRI technique allows direct quantitative measurements of porosity and imaging of samples with short MR signal lifetimes. We illustrate the application of this method to two core samples from the White Rose reservoir: one containing shell fragments and the other fine grained and massive in texture. The data presented in this paper show the potential of the conical SPRITE MRI technique as a tool for porosity heterogeneity evaluation by application of the method to core plugs taken from sandstone reservoir rocks of the White Rose oilfield, located in offshore Newfoundland. The results show that the MRI technique can significantly enhance petrophysical studies on reservoir rocks by providing: 1) direct and non-destructive visualization of three-dimensional data required to model the porous network; 2) spatially resolved porosity throughout the core sample, which allow reveals the porosity heterogeneity and will result in better understanding of reservoir quality.
A Non-Enzymatic Uric Acid Sensor Utilizing Ion Channels in the Barrier Layer of a Porous Anodic Alumina Membrane

Abstract:Porous anodic alumina (PAA) membranes have attracted considerable interest in biosensor research because they are simple to prepare and the size of the nanochannels can be controlled. However, traditional methods only utilize the porous layer as the barrier layer is removed before use. In this study, we propose a new biosensor for the detection of uric acid based on ion channels in the barrier layer of a PAA membrane. This exhibits a wide linear range (1 nM-0.1 mM) and has excellent selectivity in the presence of interferents (D-(+)-glucose, L-ascorbic acid or dopamine). It is hoped that this new biosensor will prove useful in biological research and clinical medicine.

Abstract:Based on the electro-oxidation mode, electrochemical sensors provide an appealing evaluation tool for uric acid (UA) detection. However, improvements in the field of high-performance electrocatalysts remain necessary to enable wide-range and ultrasensitive detection of UA in this way. In recent years, the research and development of thermally treated metal (M) and nitrogen (N) co-doped carbon (M-N-C) catalysts, along with the usage of metal-organic framework materials as precursors, has substantially increased the performance of non-precious metal oxygen reduction catalysts, rendering them a potential species of the active substance. In this work, we synthesized the cobalt metal-embedded nitrogen-doped carbon frameworks (Co-CN) through a host-guest synthetic strategy. An electrochemical sensing system was constructed for the accurate detection of UA molecules utilizing the excellent UA electrooxidation performance of Co-CN. The electro-oxidation reaction exhibits double electron/double proton transfer, and a response current signal can be obtained using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), establishing a correlation between the measured UA concentration and the strength of the DPV current. Target UA concentration and DPV current density exhibited a dose-dependent relationship with a dynamic range of 2-120 μM and a limit of detection of 0.55 μM. During measurement, this sensing approach revealed good accuracy, high specificity, and adequate storage stability. It is worth noting that this detection system introduces a fresh approach for the development of sensitive, portable, and reasonably priced human metabolite analysis in wearable health monitoring devices.

Abstract:An ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor was developed to identify the low levels of uric acid (UA) in human serum. The gold/cobalt (Au/Co) bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) decorated hollow nanoporous carbon framework (Au/Co@HNCF) was synthesized as a nanozyme by pyrolysis of the Au (III)-etching zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67). The external Au NPs combined with internal Co NPs on the hollow carbon framework exhibited enhanced activity for UA oxidation, thereby generating superior signals. Accordingly, the Au/Co@HNCF biosensor presented ranking performances with a low detection limit of 0.023 mu M (S/N = 3), an ultrahigh sensitivity of 48.4 mu A mu M-1 cm(-2), and an extensive response in the linear region of 0.1-25 mu M and the logarithmic region of 25-2500 mu M. Owing to the ordered nanoporous framework and carbon interfacial features, the Au/Co@HNCF biosensor displayed adequate selectivity for UA sensing over a series of biomolecules. In addition, the Au/Co@HNCF biosensor was employed to quantify UA in human serum samples. The test results were basically consistent with those of a commercial apparatus, and thus demonstrated that the proposed Au/Co@HNCF biosensor was reliable for UA determination in clinical research.

Abstract:Ferrites are effectively used in electrochemical uric acid (UA) sensing applications. Herein, we synthesised cobalt ferrite (CoFe 2 O 4 ) nanoparticles synthesised by one step solution combustion method. The prepared CoFe 2 O 4 was coated on nickel foam (NF) substrate to fabricate the electrode and tested using phosphate buffer saline (PBS). The small crystallite size of 14 nm as well as the large area of active sites of 0.139 cm 2 contributed towards the enhanced sensitivity of 0.735 mA.mM −1 cm −2 . The limit of detection (LOD) of CoFe 2 O 4 @NF sensor is 26.24 μM. The UA sensing occurs by an adsorption-controlled kinetics by electrostatic interaction at a pH ∼7.2 where UA anion is negatively charge while CoFe 2 O 4 surface is positively charged and it displays a quasi-reversible reaction. Additionally, the repeatability, selectivity, reproducibility of the UA sensor and the electrode kinetics were investigated. The real-time application of CoFe 2 O 4 @NF was validated using spot-urine, commercial milk and Barracuda fish samples, which show recovery percentage between 99.5% and 101.8%. The shelf-life of the CoFe 2 O 4 @NF electrode is observed to be 28 days. Hence, this highly sensitive cobalt ferrite UA sensor can be used for clinical diagnosis of hyperuricemia and food safety purposes.

Abstract:This work describes the development of a flexible uric acid (UA) biosensor based on palladium-coated submicrometer electrospun poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) fibers metalized with gold and attached to polyethylene terephthalate substrate (Pd/Au/PMMA/PET). The morphological characterization conducted by scanning electron microscopy revealed nanoscale Pd dendritic structures. Electrochemical investigations in the absence and in the presence of redox probes demonstrated that these Pd nanostructures are responsible for a six-fold increase in the electroactive area and enhanced electron transfer kinetics when compared to the gold-coated electrospun fibers. The UA biosensor obtained by immobilizing the uricase enzyme (UrOx) onto the Pd/Au/PMMA/PET electrode surface, allowed UA detection with a sensitivity of 431 μA cm–2 mM–1 and a limit of detection of 12 μM. Investigation of the redox reactions of hydrogen peroxide (a product of the enzymatic oxidation of UA by UrOx) at the Pd/Au/PMMA/PET electrode demonstrated that the working principle of the biosensor is based on the reduction of PdO produced at the electrode surface during the spontaneous reduction of hydrogen peroxide on Pd. This allows a biosensor operating potential of −0.05 V (vs Ag/AgCl) with high selectivity. The UrOx/Pd/Au/PMMA/PET biosensor was applied for UA detection in body fluids (sweat, urine, and blood serum) with recovery values between 98 and 105%, which were validated by high-performance liquid chromatography analysis. The stability of the device was evaluated over a period of 3 months, retaining 78% of the initial sensitivity, and reproducibility with RSD = 4.9% was achieved. The analytical performance of the biosensor under harsh mechanical deformations and at physiological temperatures demonstrated the potential applications of the device to wearable sensing platforms.

Abstract:In this study, we have used cotton silk as a source of abundant hydroxyl groups for the fast nucleation/growth of cobalt oxide (Co 3 O 4 ) nanowires via a hydrothermal method. The crystal planes of the Co 3 O 4 nanowires well matched the cubic phase. The as-synthesized Co 3 O 4 nanowires mainly contained cobalt and oxygen elements and were found to be highly sensitive towards uric acid in 0.01 M phosphate buffer solution at pH 7.4. Importantly, the Co 3 O 4 nanowires exhibited a large surface area, which was heavily utilized during the immobilization of the enzyme uricase via a physical adsorption method. The potentiometric response of the uricase-immobilizing Co 3 O 4 nanowires was measured in the presence of uric acid (UA) against a silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) reference electrode. The newly fabricated uric acid biosensor possessed a low limit of detection of 1.0 ± 0.2 nM with a wide linear range of 5 nM to 10 mM and sensitivity of 30.6 mV dec −1 . Additionally, several related parameters of the developed uric acid biosensor were investigated, such as the repeatability, reproducibility, storage stability, selectivity, and dynamic response time, and these were found to be satisfactory. The good performance of the Co 3 O 4 nanowires was verified based on the fast charge-transfer kinetics, as confirmed via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The successful practical use of the uric acid biosensor was demonstrated based on the recovery method. The observed performance of the uricase-immobilizing Co 3 O 4 nanowires revealed that they could be considered as a promising and alternative tool for the detection of uric acid under both in vitro and in vivo conditions. Also, the use of cotton silk as a source of abundant hydroxyl groups may be considered for the remarkably fast nucleation/growth of other metal-oxide nanostructures, thereby facilitating the fabrication of functional electrochemical devices, such as batteries, water-splitting devices, and supercapacitors.

Abstract:The escalating mortality rate attributed to patients suffering from hyperuricemia has urged the need for on-site monitoring of uric acid (UA) using a facile, rapid and highly sensitive detection system. Non-enzymatic electrochemical UA sensors have gained attention owing to its low cost and simplicity. Herein, we report combustion-derived MFe 2 O 4 (M = Cu, Co, Ni, Zn) nanoparticle modified nickel foam (NF) based electrodes with large surface area as potential candidates for UA sensing application. The structure of the synthesized ferrites was confirmed through x-ray diffraction (XRD) while the morphology was investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) analysis. Among the four different ferrites, the broccoli like NiFe 2 O 4 showcased better activity and a high sensitivity of 1.91 mA mM −1 cm −2 towards UA, capable of selectively detecting UA in the presence of various interferents. The Limit Of Detection (LOD) was found to be 8.45 μM (S/N = 3) having a wide linear range of detection between 10.0 μM and 5.0 mM. The developed biosensor showed good repeatability, reproducibility (n = 5) and was stable for ≤ 15 days with a minimal current reduction of 0.4 %. The sensing performance of NiFe 2 O 4 @NF electrode was further investigated by estimating the UA concentration in human blood serum samples and it was validated using clinically derived results and it is observed to have recovery rate of 94 % for UA concentration of ∼10.0 mg/dL. Hence this work provides a simple strategy for designing NiFe 2 O 4 @NF electrodes for sensing UA in patients with hyperuricemia.

Abstract:This work describes an electrochemical sensor for the fast noninvasive detection of uric acid (UA) in saliva. The sensing material was based on the cobalt-containing Prussian blue analogue (Na 2-x Co[Fe(CN) 6 ] 1-y , PCF). By optimizing the ratio of Co and Fe as 1.5:1 in PCF (PCF 1.5,0 ), the particle morphology formed the regular nanocubic. The calcination of PCF 1.5,0 produced the carbon coated CoFe alloy (CCF 1.5 ), CCF 1.5 being rich of defects achieved the excellent electrochemical behavior in further. CCF 1.5 was modified on the screen printed carbon electrode (SPCE) to fabricate the electrochemical sensor, CCF 1.5 /SPCE. CCF 1.5 /SPCE shows the sensitive and selective response toward salivary UA owing to its good conductivity, sufficient surface active sites and efficient catalytic activity. The determination of UA in artificial saliva achieved the wide linear range of 40 nM-30 μM and the low limit of detection (LOD) of 15.3 nM (3σ/s of 3). The performances of the sensor including the reproducibility, stability and selectivity were estimated to be satisfied. The content of UA in human saliva were determined and the recovery was in the range 98%~107%, the total RSD was 4.14%. The results confirmed the reliability of CCF 1.5 /SPCE for the application of noninvasive detection.

Abstract:Abstract A uric acid (UA) electrochemical biosensor was constructed using ferrocene (Fc) decorated cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O) enhanced electro-active characteristics and covalently immobilized with uricase (UOx) on glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The electrochemical characteristics of the fabricated electrode was analysed by cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). DPV studies revealed rapid response of fabricated electrode UOx/Fc/Cu 2 O/GCE towards UA in a wide concentration range of 0.1–1,000 μM with a sensitivity of 1.900 μA mM −1 cm −2 and very low detection limit of 0.0596 μM. A very low magnitude Michaelis–Menten constant (Km) value was evaluated as 34.7351 μM which indicated the chemical attraction of the enzyme towards the UA was much higher. The developed biosensor was successfully applied to detect UA in human urine samples. Moreover, reproducibility and stability studies demonstrated the fabricated UOx/Fc/Cu 2 O/GCE biosensor had high reproducibility with a RSD of 2.8% and good reusability with a RSD of 3.2%. Specificity studies results showed the fabricated biosensor had strong anti-interference ability. The improved sensor performance was attributed to the synergistic electronic properties of Cu 2 O and Fc that provided enhances delectrocatalytic activity and electron transfer. The present biosensor can be extended for use in clinical settings.

Abstract:In this study, cannibalistic and predatory responses of juvenile Neogobius melanostomus (either fed or deprived of food and caught during the reproductive summer or non-reproductive winter season) to water washings of fertilized eggs from conspecifics (N. melanostomus), heterospecifics (rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss) and control lake water were tested. Fed juveniles (summer season) spent significantly more time on the side of the flume containing stimuli from conspecific eggs over control water, while significantly preferring control water to heterospecific stimuli. In addition, fish showed a significant preference towards stimuli from conspecific eggs over heterospecific stimuli by associating near conspecific egg odours 1·5 times longer [Correction added after online publication 28 April 2011, text changed]. Fish that were deprived of food, regardless of whether caught during the summer or winter season, did not show any preference towards either conspecific or heterospecific stimuli. These findings show that conspecific egg odours attract fed juveniles and that there is a potential to lure fish to odour traps as a means of control.

Abstract:Sensitive and simultaneous detection of dopamine (DA) and uric acid (UA) by a sensor based on in-situ electrodeposited Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters decorated on graphene oxide (GO)-electrochemically reduced GO (ERGO) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was presented. The synergistic electrocatalytic effect of Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters and GO-REGO was investigated. First, the comparisons of electrochemical properties for GO, GO-REGO, Au (or Pt) nanoparticles, Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters decorated on GO-REGO were studied in detail. Second, electrochemical parameters of DA and UA were evaluated. It was observed that for the novel Au-Pt/GO-ERGO nanocomposites, GO-ERGO could provide much wider separation of the oxidation peak potentials of DA and UA, while Au-Pt bimetallic nano-clusters could speed up the electron transfer and enhance the electro-active areas. The linear range of detecting DA was from 6.82 x 10(-8) to 4.98 x 10(-2) M and limit of detection (LOD) was 2.07 x 10(-8) M (S/N = 3). The linear range of detecting UA was from 1.25 x 10(-7) to 8.28 x 10(-2) M and LOD was 4.07 x 10(-8) M (S/N = 3). The sensor was applied for the detection of DA and UA in human serum with good results. The sensor suggested that 3D metal-GO nanocomposites were superior materials for the fabrication of novel electrochemical sensors. (C) 2015 Elsevier By. All rights reserved.
A Nanostructured Sensor Based on Gold Nanoparticles and Nafion for Determination of Uric Acid

Abstract:The paper discusses the mechanism of uric acid (UA) electrooxidation occurring on the surface of gold nanoparticles. It has been shown that the electrode process is purely electrochemical, uncomplicated with catalytic stages. The nanoeffects observed as the reduction of overvoltage and increased current of UA oxidation have been described. These nanoeffects are determined by the size of particles and do not depend on the method of particle preparation (citrate and "green" synthesis). The findings of these studies have been used to select a modifier for carbon screen-printed electrode (CSPE). It has been stated that CSPE modified with gold nanoparticles (5 nm) and 2.5% Nafion (Nf) may serve as non-enzymatic sensor for UA determination. The combination of the properties of nanoparticles and Nafion as a molecular sieve at the selected pH 5 phosphate buffer solution has significantly improved the resolution of the sensor compared to unmodified CSPE. A nanostructured sensor has demonstrated good selectivity in determining UA in the presence of ascorbic acid. The detection limit of UA is 0.25 μM. A linear calibration curve has been obtained over a range of 0.5-600 μM. The 2.5%Nf/Au(5nm)/CSPE has been successfully applied to determining UA in blood serum and milk samples. The accuracy and reliability of the obtained results have been confirmed by a good correlation with the enzymatic spectrophotometric analysis (R² = 0.9938) and the "added-found" technique (recovery close to 100%).

Abstract:UiO-66 based materials (University of Oslo-66), with large surface area and abundant active sites, exhibit high water/solution stability due to a strong interaction between zirconium ion and the oxygen atom in carboxylate linkers. Therefore, they are potential electrode modifiers for electrochemical analysis because most of the electrochemical sensors have been used in aqueous media. In the present study, a potential electrochemical technique to detect uric acid (URA) and xanthine (XAN) is described using a Co/UiO-66 modified glassy carbon electrode. The Co/UiO-66 materials with different Co/Zr molar ratios were synthesized by hydrothermal process and were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. The characterization showed a low loading and high dispersion of doped Co onto UiO-66 matrix. It was also found that the doped Co element may be grafted into the lattice of UiO-66. Co/UiO-66 exhibited better electrochemical activity toward URA and XAN detection. Under optimum conditions, 0.08Co/UiO-66/GCE demonstrated the best response compared to other material of different Co/Zr ratio, with three linear calibration ranges of 5–10 µM, 10-49.5 µM, and 49.5–327.1 µM and the limit of detection of 0.544 and 0.547 µM for URA and XAN, respectively. This proposed sensor offers a simple and low-cost pathway to quantify URA and XAN and was successfully employed to simultaneously determine URA and XAN in human urine with exceptional recoveries (97.61 to 104.79%).Graphical abstract

Abstract:Uric acid (UA) is a significant indicator of human health because it is linked to several diseases, including renal failure, kidney stones, arthritis, and gout. Uric acid buildup in the joints is the source of chronic and painful diseases. When UA is present in large quantities, it causes tissue injury in the joints that are afflicted. In this research, silver oxide-doped activated carbon nanoparticles were synthesized and then functionalized with an ionic liquid. The synthesized nanomaterial assembly was employed as a colorimetric sensing platform for uric acid. Activated carbon offers a large internal surface area that acts as a good carrier for catalytic reactions. A salt-melting approach was used to synthesize the silver oxide-doped activated carbon nanocomposite. The synthesis was confirmed through various techniques, such as UV-vis spectrophotometer, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and EDX. The colorimetric change from blue-green to colorless was observed with the naked eye and confirmed by UV-vis spectroscopy. To obtain the best colorimetric change, several parameters, such as pH, capped NP loading, TMB concentration, hydrogen peroxide concentration, and time, were optimized. The optimized experimental conditions for the proposed sensor were pH 4 with 35 μL of NPs, a 40 mM TMB concentration, and a 4 minutes incubation time. The sensor linear range is 0.001–0.36 μM, with an R 2 value of 0.999. The suggested sensor limits of detection and quantification are 0.207 and 0.69 nM, respectively. Potential interferers, such as ethanol, methanol, urea, Ca 2+ , K + , and dopamine, did not affect the detection of uric acid.

Abstract:A cost-effective and environmentally friendly method has been proposed for synthesizing a nanomaterial composed of highly dispersed cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles anchored on sulfur-doped scaly carbon (CeO2@S-SC). This nanomaterial was employed for the modification of a glassy carbon electrode, leading to the development of an electrochemical sensor with the capability of detecting uric acid (UA). The utilization of conductive sulfur-doped scaly carbon as interlayer spacers efficiently inhibited the aggregation of CeO2 nanoparticles and formed a well-defined layered embedding structure. During the subsequent in-situ hydrothermal process, CeO2 was successfully decorated on the obtained sulfur-doped scaly carbon to further enhance its determination property of UA due to its excellent redox activity, good dispersibility, and strong adsorption ability. Benefiting from the inherent advantages of its components and unique structural features, the obtained CeO2@S-SC sensor exhibited a wide linear concentration range from 0.005 to 175 μM with a low limit of detection (3.1 nM). The buffer pH was shown important parameter to UA detection and a suitable pH of 6.0 was selected in terms of high determination ability. Meanwhile, the fabricated sensor demonstrated exceptional levels of selectivity, stability (retained 95% of its initial value after 7 days), reproducibility (RSD=4.5%), and repeatability (RSD=3.6%). Additionally, the newly developed sensor was effectively utilized to detect UA in actual samples with favorable results (recoveries ranging from 92.9% to 105%).

Abstract:The level of uric acid is crucial to human health. Octahedral oxygen vacancy MnCo2O4/Ag (VO-MnCo2O4/Ag) nanozyme was successfully prepared by simple hydrothermal, calcination and self-reduction methods. VO-MnCo2O4/Ag nanozyme is rich in Mn2+/Mn3+ and CO2+/CO3+ redox electron pairs, large specific surface area and oxygen vacancies. VO-MnCo2O4/Ag nanozyme showed high uricase-like activity and peroxidase-like activity. At the same time, the SERS signal of the detected molecule could be significantly enhanced after the catalytic reaction of the VO-MnCo2O4/Ag nanozyme. The Km values of VO-MnCo2O4/Ag nanozyme for H2O2 and TMB were 0.04 mM and 0.027 mM respectively. Based on the uric acid oxidase-like and peroxidase-like activities of VO-MnCo2O4/Ag, we developed a label-free, sensitive, and reliable SERS uric acid detection system. The detection linear range of uric acid is 0.01 μM-1000 μM and the detection of limit is 7.8 × 10-9 M. The results show that the sensing system has good accuracy, sensitivity, selectivity, and stability. It can be applied to the determination of samples under different conditions. This study provides profound insights into the design of enzyme-like activity regulation and SERS properties regulation of nanozymes, provides guidance for the study of reaction kinetics and catalytic mechanism of nanozymes, and has broad application prospects in the field of nanozymes and SERS sensing analysis.

Liquid crystal-based sensitive and selective detection of uric acid and uricase in body fluids

Abstract:The abnormal levels of uric acid (UA) in body fluids are associated with gout, type(II) diabetes, leukemia, Lesch-Nyhan syndrome, uremia, kidney damage, and cardiovascular diseases. Also, the presence of uricase (UOx) symbolizes genetic disorders and corresponding complications. Therefore, the detection of UA and UOx in the body fluids is significant for clinical diagnosis. 4-Cyano-4-pentylbiphenyl (5CBCB, a nematic liquid crystal (LC)) was doped with octadecyl trimethylammonium bromide (OTAB, a cationic surfactant), which formed a self-assembled monolayer at the aqueous/5CBCB interface. The UOx-catalyzed oxidation of UA yielded H2O2, releasing the single-strand deoxyribonucleic acid (ssDNA) from the nanoceria/ssDNA complex. The interaction of the released ssDNA with OTAB disrupted the monolayer at the aqueous/5CBCB interface, which resulted in a dark to bright change when observed through a polarized optical microscope. The LC-based sensor allowed the detection of UA with a linear range of 0.01–10 μM and a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.001 μM. The UA detection was also performed in human urine samples and the results were comparable to that of a standard commercial colorimetric method. Similarly, the detection of UOx was performed, with a noted linear range of 20–140 μg/mL. The LOD was as low as 0.34 μg/mL. The detection of UOx was also demonstrated in human serum samples with excellent performance. This method provides a robust sensing platform for the detection of UA and UOx and has potential for applications in clinical analysis.

Abstract:Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism and is a key biomarker for various diseases. Under normal conditions, there is a balance between its production and excretion. Its higher concentration can cause inflammation and severe pain, which makes it necessary to monitor its level for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of various pathological conditions. The current work reports on the synthesis of a copper-doped biochar (Cu@BC) nanocomposite and its functionalization with citric acid. The synthesis of the mimic enzyme was confirmed through various spectroscopic techniques. The nanozyme catalyzes hydrogen peroxide to oxidize tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) with an optical change from colorless to blue-green. This optical transformation was confirmed through a UV-vis spectrophotometer, which gave an expected λ max of 652 nm characteristic of TMBoxi. The incorporation of uric acid into this reaction mixture resulted in the reduction of TMBoxi to TMBred, accompanied by an optical change from blue-green to colorless, which was again confirmed with a UV-vis spectrophotometer. The fabricated sensor's performance was finely-tuned to report on its various key components. The best response was achieved at 2 mg of the nanozyme, pH 6, time 150 seconds, TMB, and hydrogen peroxide 0.9 and 1.5 mM, respectively. Under the above-mentioned optimized conditions, the fabricated sensor detected uric acid in the range of 1-90 μM with limits of detection and quantification of 0.17 and 0.58 μM, respectively, with an R 2 of 0.997. The proposed sensor was highly selective and successfully detected uric acid in real sample solutions.
