Abstract:Technology is becoming ever more central to teaching and training. In classrooms, students use intelligent tutors and adaptive tests instead of textbooks and worksheets. In daily life, mobile devices enable blended, on-demand and ubiquitous life-long learning applications. Connected, pervasive media enables compelling transmedia learning (Raybourn, 2014) experiences. However, learning opportunities are still often implemented in “walled gardens” or stand-alone technology systems that must be manually curated and coordinated with all the others through costly, one-off efforts of developers or individual instructors. Next-generation learning refers to a vision for breaking down technical barriers between different learning technologies so that learners and instructors can transition seamlessly between them, increasing usability and impact on learning. The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative proposes an open-source set of specifications together called the Total Learning Architecture (TLA) to achieve this vision. TLA enables technologies to interoperate by sharing data about learners and content, mixing media and delivery methods as context changes, and sequencing recommendations (Regan, Raybourn, & Durlach, 2013). The initial reference implementation demonstrates multiple systems interacting via the TLA in an adaptive training use case for cyber operators. In the present paper, we describe recommendations for achieving new learning opportunities via meta-adaptation, or recommendations for more adaptive learning experiences that cross technical boundaries and connect systems, making each one more effective than it would be alone. Through system interoperability and meta-adaptation, the TLA facilitates an ecosystem of technologies that can work together to enhance their impact on learning.

Abstract:Sugarcane is the main sugar crop, and sugar is an important agricultural product in Egypt. There are many problems with the technology used in the current planting method of sugarcane, which has a great impact on the planting quality of sugarcane, which have a series of problems, such as low cutting efficiency and poor quality. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to design, construct, and field testing of a semiautomatic sugarcane bud chipper assisted with pivot knives for cutting sugarcane buds and germinating them in plastic trays inside a greenhouse until they reached an average length of 35 cm, and then planting them in the field. In the field tests five cutting speeds (35, 40, 45, 50, and 56 rpm. (Revolution Per minute), three cutting knives (1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 mm) were used for cutting sugarcane stalks with four different diameters (1.32, 1.82, 2.43, and 2.68 cm). The obtained results showed that the values of the damage index and invisible losses were within acceptable limits (ranging between − 1.0 and 0.0) for all the variables under the test. Still, the lowest damage index and invisible losses were recorded with the buds that were cut with a knife of 1.5 mm thickness and cutting speeds less than 50 rpm. The skipping rate increases with the increase in cutting speed and stalk diameter, ranging between 0.0 to 13%. The maximum machine productivity was 110 Buds per minute at a cutting speed of 35 rpm and stalk diameter of 1.32 cm. The paper's findings have important application values for promoting the designing and development of sugarcane bud chipper and sugarcane planting technology in the future.

Abstract:High levels of mechanical damage are a major obstacle for the mechanical harvesting of sugarcane. A chopping system for use in a sugarcane harvester was developed and tested. The three influencing factors studied were the rotational speed of chopping drums (RS), the overlapping length of upper and lower chopping blades (OL) and the bevel angle (BA). The quality of chopping included the percentage of undamaged billets (PUB) and the standard deviation of chopping length (SDCL), and together with the average maximum chopping power consumption (PC) these were regarded as outputs. A Box-Behnken design was employed to conduct the experiments and build regression models. The optimised results indicated that when RS increased from 200 to 250 rpm on the condition that OL and BA were set as 2 mm and 21.8 degrees, respectively, PUB decreased from 97.0% to 95.6%, with PC increasing from 515 to 625 W and SDCL increasing from 1.24 to 1.36 mm. Based on these optimised parameters, a finite element model was established to simulate the chopping process. The chopping resistance of blades, stress distribution of sugarcane and blades in the chopping process were then analysed. Results showed that the maximum Von Mises stress of sugarcane, upper and lower chopping blades in the chopping process were about 16.87, 106.08 and 115.72 MPa, respectively. (C) 2018 IAgrE. Research on Algorithm of Sugarcane Nodes Identification Based on Machine Vision

Abstract:In order to realize automatic cutting of sugarcane seeds in single bud segment, machine vision technology was used to identify sugarcane nodes. Firstly, the sugarcane color image was obtained, and the R component image of RGB color space was separated, and the median value of R component image was filtered and denoised. Second, the contour information of sugarcane image was obtained by FindContours function, and the area of interest of sugarcane image was selected by the width and height of contour. Finally, Sobel edge detection image of region of interest was acquired, and a rectangular detection operator was constructed to perform integral operation on the interested region to obtain a feature description vector of the interested region. Threshold value of the feature description vector was processed. The peak of the feature description vector was defined as the node feature point. The experimental results show that the recognition rate is 93% and the average time is 0.539 seconds.

Performance Evaluation of a Chopper System for Sugarcane Harvester

Abstract:Improving sugarcane chopper harvesters in terms of chopping quality is essential to reduce harvesting loss and costs. In this study, a chopper system used in a sugarcane harvester was developed and utilized to evaluate the effect of rotational speed of chopping drums (X1), overlapping length of upper and lower chopping blades (X2) and bevel angle (X3) on chopping quality and power requirement. Box-Behnken design combining with response surface method was employed to obtain the optimal operating parameters. The significance of independent variables and their interactions were tested by analysis of variance with 95% confidence limit (α = 0.05). The optimal values of the selected variables were obtained by solving the regression models, as well as by analyzing the response surface contour plots. The optimal values of three test variables were computed as X2 of 2 mm and X3 of 21.8°. Based on these conditions, when X1 increased from 200 to 250 rpm, the percentage of undamaged billets decreased from 97.0 to 95.6%, the average maximum chopping power requirements increased from 515 to 625 W, and the standard deviation of chopping length increased from 1.24 to 1.36 mm. Verification experiments indicated that the observed values were in agreement with the predicted values. A high-speed camera system was then applied to capture the stalk trajectory during chopping process. Results suggested that maintaining a stable and low conveying speed of sugarcanes during mechanical harvesting could reduce stalk damage and juice loss, which contributed to high chopping quality.

Abstract:In order to reduce the inclusions in raw material and meet the sugar refinery requirements for the quality of raw material, based on the analysis of SL-1600 type whole stalk sugarcane harvester, the sugarcane mechanized harvesting system was revised depending its harvest procedure, such as the installation of cutting, detrashing, crushed leaves and docking. The new type of sugarcane mechanized harvesting system is 4ZL-1, which was optimized on the installation of cutting and leaf peeling, also increased the installation of crushed leaves and docking. According to experiments before (SL-1600) and after the improvement (4ZL-1), the qualification rate of cutting height increased by about 5.9 percent point, the broken head rate decreased by about 6.3 percent point, the qualification rate of stem increased by about 3.2 percent point, the qualification rate of docking increased by about 5.1 percent point, the total loss rate decreased by about 2.6 percent point , and un-detrashing rate increased by about 3.0 percent point . The results showed that the type of 4ZL-1 can reduce broken head rate, stubble loss rate, header loss rate, total loss rate, and can enhance the efficiency of detrashing and adapt to different heights of sugarcane.

Abstract:A sugarcane harvester prototype was fabricated and evaluated to save time, labor, and harvesting expenses, which are included in production costs. The single-row harvester prototype fits the functional needs of the physical qualities of sugarcane and was designed to be installed on a tractor. One serrated edge cutter disc, three forward speeds, and three cutter disc speeds were used to evaluate the performance of the fabricated sugarcane harvester. The results of the technical evaluation showed that the average forward speed was 5 km h−1, and the average cutter disc speed was 2000 rpm by a cutter disc with a serrated edge produced the ideal sugarcane harvesting parameters. The actual field capacity, the power required and the specific energy requirements, were determined. Despite that economic evaluation empathies that the combination of 3.5 km h−1 forward speed and a 1000 rpm cutting speed also achieved the highest benefits ($115.12/ha).

Abstract:The sensors allow the delivery of real-time information on a range of production systems, making each day relevant to the development of autonomous agricultural machinery. The sensors implementation in sugarcane operations is no exception. The objective of this work was to present the technological evolution and the state of the art of the sensors used in the monitoring, decision-making and management process for sugarcane cultivation. This review addresses the sensors involved in the agricultural operations of sugarcane production. For soil preparation and properties, the sensors involved in the diagnosis of compacted areas, depth of the soil preparation tool and monitoring the traction force. In planting, the monitored variable is the sugarcane stalks mass flow poured into the planting furrows. Optical remote sensing, vegetative index, ultrasonic, photoelectric and cameras are tools that help in the task of monitoring sugarcane cultivation. One of the significant challenges for fertilization is to quantify the soil need for nutrient replacement. In spraying, the implementation of sensors to detect pests or weeds. At harvest, the sensors used real-time yield estimation and the sensors for base cut height controlling. Finally, it was found that the integration of sensors of different physical principles to measure crop and soil attributes. Machine operational variables are a trend together with the use of intelligent control systems. This trend generates an increase in the volume of data on the crop, improving the management of the fleet and inputs,and demanding a robust data network in the field.

Sugarcane Stem Node Detection Based on Wavelet Analysis

Abstract:The article discusses a wavelet-based approach for recognizing sugarcane stem nodes in order to improve pre-cut sugarcane planting technology, beginning with sugarcane form characteristics that permit automated sugarcane seed production. The location signal is collected by the acceleration and thin-film piezoelectric sensors and then decomposed into the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth layers using the Daubechies tight-branch wavelet. After capturing the signal, it is reconstructed and superimposed to capture the stem node region’s features using the default threshold technique. A multi-sensor fusion approach is developed based on a weighted average and a Kalman filter to confirm the experiment’s validity. The weighted average process produces an average value that is 0.3512mm off from the experimentally observed data average. The discrepancy between the Kalman filter method’s anticipated average value and the empirically determined average error is 0.5778mm. To facilitate the investigation, 175 sugarcane samples with intermediate length processing are used. The detecting position system is determined experimentally after extensive experimental research and diligent examination. On average, the standard deviation is 0.494mm, while the maximum value is 9.99mm. 99.63 percent of cane seed samples are detected, with an error rate of 0.37 percent and a response time of 0.25 seconds. The proposed technology is conceptually feasible and achievable, and it can provide a reference for the development of automated cane seed pre-cutting machinery to give its contribution to agricultural production.

Detection of breakage and impurity ratios for raw sugarcane based on estimation model and MDSC-DeepLabv3+

Abstract:Broken cane and impurities such as top, leaf in harvested raw sugarcane significantly influence the yield of the sugar manufacturing process. It is crucial to determine the breakage and impurity ratios for assessing the quality and price of raw sugarcane in sugar refineries. However, the traditional manual sampling approach for detecting breakage and impurity ratios suffers from subjectivity, low efficiency, and result discrepancies. To address this problem, a novel approach combining an estimation model and semantic segmentation method for breakage and impurity ratios detection was developed. A machine vision-based image acquisition platform was designed, and custom image and mass datasets of cane, broken cane, top, and leaf were created. For cane, broken cane, top, and leaf, normal fitting of mean surface densities based on pixel information and measured mass was conducted. An estimation model for the mass of each class and the breakage and impurity ratios was established using the mean surface density and pixels. Furthermore, the MDSC-DeepLabv3+ model was developed to accurately and efficiently segment pixels of the four classes of objects. This model integrates improved MobileNetv2, atrous spatial pyramid pooling with deepwise separable convolution and strip pooling module, and coordinate attention mechanism to achieve high segmentation accuracy, deployability, and efficiency simultaneously. Experimental results based on the custom image and mass datasets showed that the estimation model achieved high accuracy for breakage and impurity ratios between estimated and measured value with R 2 values of 0.976 and 0.968, respectively. MDSC-DeepLabv3+ outperformed the compared models with mPA and mIoU of 97.55% and 94.84%, respectively. Compared to the baseline DeepLabv3+, MDSC-DeepLabv3+ demonstrated significant improvements in mPA and mIoU and reduced Params, FLOPs, and inference time, making it suitable for deployment on edge devices and real-time inference. The average relative errors of breakage and impurity ratios between estimated and measured values were 11.3% and 6.5%, respectively. Overall, this novel approach enables high-precision, efficient, and intelligent detection of breakage and impurity ratios for raw sugarcane.

Abstract:Summary Many developed countries,such as Austria and America,have been accomplished the mechanization fully during the sugarcane production.The development of some mechanical manufacturing is on the way to automated and intelligent direction. From the 1960s to nowadays, our research on the sugarcane harvest mechanization has a history of over 40 years.However,except for the mechanization realization of the plowing land preparation and transportation,the biggest harvest of labor still relies on the human,which makes the production efficiency be extremely low.With the increasing area of the sugarcane planting,the mode of production of the traditional manual harvest can not meet the need of the modern agriculture development anymore. <br> Nowadays,the harvest is in the low level and the production efficiency is also not so much high as the sugarcane mechanization,moreover,there has been no such a machine that can adapt to the reality of our country with substantial promotion.This paper outlines the characteristics of sugarcane harvest machinery on the basis of the method of the agricultural equipment virtual design.At the same time,this paper analyses the existing problem and the research direction,which lays a foundation for sugarcane harvest design and the future development. <br> First,this paper will introduce the concept of the virtual design as well as the three characteristics of immersion,simplicity and instantaneity.Based on the practical situation of the research on the sugarcane harvester virtual design,this paper highlights the application research status of virtual design in whole virtual design,hand cane mechanism, cutting mechanism, peeling leaves, logistics simulation and so on. Combined with the development and the promotion of the sugarcane harvest mechanization,it analyses the problem and the limitation of the sugarcane institutions,stripping leaves institutions,logistics simulation and virtual design,and the research directions in the future are also be put forward. <br> On the research applications of the sugarcane harvester,virtual design has some problems and limitations which are as follows:Sugarcane is not in conformity with the actual mode;the combination of the virtual design and the agronomic requirements is very little;the combination of the virtual design and the machine battery solution is little too;the model of the virtual machine is not perfect enough.In order to solve these problems and limitations,this paper puts forward that we should carry out the research from the perspective of the key institutions and in combination with the advantages of virtual design.It mainly conducts further research from the following aspects:Physical characteristics of sugarcane research,combined with the agronomic requirements and the machine battery solution,and the virtual prototype model will be perfected. <br> As the method of the new product development design and the optimization of improvement,the virtual design not only simplifies the design of the complex mechanical system,but also shortens the development cycle of new products,improves the design quality,and reduces the development cost largely.Nowadays,the virtual design still has some problems on the application research of the sugarcane harvester,especially for the aspects of these questions and limitations,the further research will be conducted.Completing the virtual prototype model,at the same time,providing the theoretical foundation for producing the physical prototype,and then our sugarcane harvester will be perfectly developed and promoted.
Sugarcane Node Detection Method Based on Photoelectric Sensor Vertical Projection Signal Processing

Abstract:Highlights A linear array CCD sensor is utilized to obtain the contour signal of the vertical projection of the sugarcane. A method is provided for continuously identifying and locating sugarcane nodes. Examines the impact of scan speed and illumination on the accuracy of identification. The method performs well regarding identification rate, precision, and efficiency. Abstract. In order to achieve continuous and dynamic detection of sugarcane nodes, improve the automatic production efficiency of pre-cut sugarcane seed, and lower the cost of mechanized sugarcane production, a detection method based on linear array charge-coupled device (CCD) photoelectric sensor signal processing was developed. Firstly, the mechanical drive unit was controlled to drive the photoelectric detection system to acquire the signal of the vertical projection of the sugarcane profile. The projection information was then binarized into profile information using the Otsu algorithm. The profile signal was then decomposed using a variable mode decomposition algorithm optimized based on the sparrow search algorithm, and the component reflecting the node content was regarded as the feature signal. Finally, the position of the wave peaks above the judgment threshold in the normalized feature signal was considered the position of the sugarcane nodes. One-way and two-way experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of scan speed and illuminance on identification precision. The results showed that the identification rate, average response time, and average error values were 98.40%, 0.13 s, and 1.36 mm at a scan speed of 75 mm/s and an illuminance of 91.91 lx. Compared to other node identification methods discussed in this article, the proposed method has a high identification rate and accuracy with a high response speed, which can improve the automation efficiency of sugarcane seed production. Abstract:Introduction: In order to promote sugarcane pre-cut seed good seed and good method planting technology, we combine the development of sugarcane pre-cut seed intelligent 0p99oposeed cutting machine to realize the accurate and fast identification and cutting of sugarcane stem nodes. Methods: In this paper, we proposed an algorithm to improve YOLOv4-Tiny for sugarcane stem node recognition. Based on the original YOLOv4-Tiny network, the three maximum pooling layers of the original YOLOv4-tiny network were replaced with SPP (Spatial Pyramid Pooling) modules, which fuse the local and global features of the images and enhance the accurate localization ability of the network. And a 1×1 convolution module was added to each feature layer to reduce the parameters of the network and improve the prediction speed of the network. Results: On the sugarcane dataset, compared with the Faster-RCNN algorithm and YOLOv4 algorithm, the improved algorithm yielded an mean accuracy precision (MAP) of 99.11%, a detection accuracy of 97.07%, and a transmission frame per second (fps) of 30, which can quickly and accurately detect and identify sugarcane stem nodes. Discussion: In this paper, the improved algorithm is deployed in the sugarcane stem node fast identification and dynamic cutting system to achieve accurate and fast sugarcane stem node identification and cutting in real time. It improves the seed cutting quality and cutting efficiency and reduces the labor intensity.

Abstract:The rapid and accurate identification of sugarcane internodes is of great significance for tasks such as field operations and precision management in the sugarcane industry, and it is also a fundamental task for the intelligence of the sugarcane industry. However, in complex field environments, traditional image processing techniques have low accuracy, efficiency, and are mainly limited to server-side processing. Meanwhile, the sugarcane industry requires a large amount of manual involvement, leading to high labor costs. In response to the aforementioned issues, this paper employed YOLOv5s as the original model algorithm, incorporated the K-means clustering algorithm, and added the CBAM attention module and VarifocalNet mechanism to the algorithm. The improved model is referred to as YOLOv5s-KCV. We implemented the YOLOv5s-KCV algorithm on Jetson TX2 edge computing devices with a well-configured runtime environment, completing the design and development of a real-time sugarcane internode identification system. Through ablation experiments, comparative experiments of various mainstream visual recognition network models, and performance experiments conducted in the field, the effectiveness of the proposed improvement method and the developed real-time sugarcane internode identification system were verified. The experimental results demonstrate that the improvement method of YOLOv5s-KCV is effective, with an algorithm recognition accuracy of 89.89%, a recall rate of 89.95%, and mAP value of 92.16%, which respectively increased by 6.66%, 5.92%, and 7.44% compared to YOLOv5s. The system underwent performance testing in various weather conditions and at different times in the field, achieving a minimum recognition accuracy of sugarcane internodes of 93.5%. Therefore, the developed system in this paper can achieve real-time and accurate identification of sugarcane internodes in field environments, providing new insights for related work in sugarcane field industries.

The Development of a Defect Detection Model from the High-Resolution Images of a Sugarcane Plantation Using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Abstract:This article presents a defect detection model of sugarcane plantation images. The objective is to assess the defect areas occurring in the sugarcane plantation before the harvesting seasons. The defect areas in the sugarcane are usually caused by storms and weeds. This defect detection algorithm uses high-resolution sugarcane plantations and image processing techniques. The algorithm for defect detection consists of four processes: (1) data collection, (2) image preprocessing, (3) defect detection model creation, and (4) application program creation. For feature extraction, the researchers used image segmentation and convolution filtering by 13 masks together with mean and standard deviation. The feature extraction methods generated 26 features. The K-nearest neighbors algorithm was selected to develop a model for the classification of the sugarcane areas. The color selection method was also chosen to detect defect areas. The results show that the model can recognize and classify the characteristics of the objects in sugarcane plantation images with an accuracy of 96.75%. After the comparison with the expert surveyor’s assessment, the accurate relevance obtained was 92.95%. Therefore, the proposed model can be used as a tool to calculate the percentage of defect areas and solve the problem of evaluating errors of yields in the future.

Abstract:Extraction rate and energy consumption are two important indicators of the sugarcane milling system, which are calculated by offline experiments and inspection methods. Soft sensors are inferential models, which are enabling online prediction of these indicators. Selection of input variables is one of the most critical issues in soft sensors design. So a deep feature extraction method is proposed by combining mutual information theory and hybrid chicken swamp algorithm to determine the input and parameters of model. Then, input the obtained variables into the data-driven model of deep kernal extreme learning machine (DK-ELM) with optimized parameters to realize the prediction of extraction and hourly energy consumption. It combines the kernel method with the multi-layer ELM. Experiments are conducted to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the modeling method. Comparing the proposed framework with the four experiments designed on a sugarcane milling system, the proposed framework for predicting extraction and energy consumption with better feasibility and effectiveness, and provided a good reference for end-point control and judgment of quick direct tapping. Practical Applications Extraction and energy consumption are two important indicators of the milling process and whether they meet standards will affect the smooth operation and economic benefits of sugar production. This study presents a novel modeling method to predict these indicators based on the deep feature extraction and deep kernal extreme learning machine. These methods provided a good reference for end-point control and judgment of quick direct tapping. In addition, it a new concept for the design of soft sensors for such complex industrial processes.

Abstract:The invention relates to an automatic sugarcane peeling and cutting machine. The technical scheme is that the automatic sugarcane peeling and cutting machine comprises a frame, wherein multiple knife rests are arranged transversely on the frame at intervals and are connected with one another by virtue of multiple connecting shafts, a sugarcane passing hole is formed in the center of each knife rest, multiple peeling blades uniformly distributed around the circumference of each sugarcane passing hole are arranged on the knife rests, a guide roller is rotatably arranged on each knife rest at one side, facing a sugarcane inlet, of each peeling blade, an elastic part which is used for limiting each peeling blade at a position for doing linear motion towards the center of each sugarcane passing hole is fixed between each peeling blade and the corresponding knife rest, a holding device is arranged at the outer side of each of the two end knife rests, and a sugarcane traction device is arranged on each holding device in a direction facing a sugarcane outlet. The automatic sugarcane peeling and cutting machine is produced according to a principle of simulating artificial sugarcane peeling, and the appearance of a peeled sugarcane finished product achieves or superior to that obtained by artificial peeling, accords with expectations of people and is beneficial to be accepted by the masses. The automatic sugarcane peeling and cutting machine can well adapt to sugarcanes with different thickness diameters and bending degrees, the complete peeling rate reaches 95% or more than 95%, and the artificial peeling can be completely replaced.

Abstract:Accurate and rapid discrimination between nodes and internodes in sugarcane is vital for automating planting processes, particularly for minimizing bud damage and optimizing planting material quality. This study investigates the potential of visible-shortwave near-infrared (Vis–SWNIR) spectroscopy (400–1000 nm) combined with machine learning for this classification task. Spectral data were acquired from the sugarcane cultivar Khon Kaen 3 at multiple orientations, and various preprocessing techniques were employed to enhance spectral features. Three machine learning algorithms, linear discriminant analysis (LDA), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNNs), and artificial neural networks (ANNs), were evaluated for their classification performance. The results demonstrated high accuracy across all models, with ANN coupled with derivative preprocessing achieving an F1-score of 0.93 on both calibration and validation datasets, and 0.92 on an independent test set. This study underscores the feasibility of Vis–SWNIR spectroscopy and machine learning for rapid and precise node/internode classification, paving the way for automation in sugarcane billet preparation and other precision agriculture applications.

Abstract:The use of satellite-based Remote Sensing (RS) is a well-developed field of research. RS techniques have been successfully utilized to evaluate the chlorophyll content for the monitoring of sugarcane crops. This research provides a new framework for inferring the chlorophyll content in sugarcane crops at the canopy level using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and spectral vegetation indices processed with multiple machine learning algorithms. Studies were conducted in a sugarcane field located in Sugarcane Research Institute (SRI, Uda Walawe, Sri Lanka), with various fertilizer applications over the entire growing season from 2020 to 2021. An UAV with multispectral camera was used to collect the aerial images to generate the vegetation indices. Ground measurements of leaf chlorophyll were used as indications for fertilizer status in the sugarcane field. Different machine learning (ML) algorithms were used ground-truthing data of chlorophyll content and spectral vegetation indices to forecast sugarcane chlorophyll content. Several machine learning algorithms such as MLR, RF, DT, SVR, XGB, KNN and ANN were applied in two ways: before feature selection (BFS) by training the algorithms with all twenty-four (24) vegetation indices with five (05) spectral bands and after feature selection (AFS) by training algorithms with fifteen (15) vegetation indices. All the algorithms with both BFS and AFS methods were compared with an estimated coefficient of determination (R2) and root mean square error (RMSE). Spectral indices such as RVI and DVI were shown to be the most reliable indices for estimating chlorophyll content in sugarcane fields, with coefficients of determination (R2) of 0.94 and 0.93, respectively. XGB model shows the highest validation score (R2) and lowest RMSE in both methods of BFS (0.96 and 0.14) and AFS (0.98 and 0.78), respectively. However, KNN and SVR algorithms show the lowest validation accuracy than other models. According to the results, the AFS validation score is higher than BFS in MLR, SVR, XGB and KNN. Even though, validation score of the ANN model is decreased in AFS. The findings demonstrated that the use of multispectral UAV could be utilized to estimate chlorophyll content and measure crop health status over a larger sugarcane field. This methodology will aid in real-time crop nutrition management in sugarcane plantations by reducing the need for conventional measurement of sugarcane chlorophyll content.

Abstract:Sugarcane is one of the largest economic crops in China. However, the current domestic sugarcane straw crushing and returning machines have limitations such as short service life, poor crushing effect, and low operating efficiency. In order to solve these problems, a 1GYF-240 sugarcane straw crushing and returning machine was developed in this study. First of all, the power is provided by the tractor, and at the same time, it drives the blade in the crushing mechanism to rotate at a high speed. Next, the profiling leaf collector collects the sugarcane stalks that are close to the ground and feeds them into the crushing chamber. Finally, the swinging knife and the fixed knife are used for crushing, and the crushed straw is evenly thrown to the field along the rear baffle under the action of centrifugal force, thereby completing the operation of crushing and returning the sugarcane straw to the field. The results of field experiments show that the qualified rate of sugarcane straw crushing is 93.8%, and the work efficiency is 0.78hm2·h-1, which shows good operation effect. The results of comparative experiments show that this study not only solves the environmental pollution problem of traditional incineration well, but also has the function of heat preservation and water retention. In addition, compared with similar domestic models, the experimental results show that the crushing and returning machine has obvious advantages in picking up rate and crushing rate of sugarcane straw, and has higher reliability in actual operation. This research can provide the foundation and support for the design and popularization of the sugarcane leaf crushing and returning machine.
