Abstract:Previous research has found that parenting style influences academic resilience. Nonetheless, few studies have focused on the mechanism underlying the relationship between parenting style and academic resilience. This study aims to examine the relationship between adolescents' parenting style and academic resilience, drawing upon the framework of Social Cognitive Theory. Specifically, it wants to explore the mediating roles of self-efficacy and academic motivation in this relationship. The participants were 518 students chosen at random from educational institutions in the Chinese provinces of Zhejiang, Shanghai, and Jiangsu. Social Cognitive Theory was the theoretical foundation for the study, and the Parental Authority Questionnaire was used to measure parenting style. Out of the respondents, 55.5% were male and 45.5% female. The student allocation in the study sample was as follows: 62.34% undergraduate, 28.22% master's, and 9.44% PhD. More than 60% of participants were over 25 years old. Moreover, the findings revealed that parenting style was directly and positively related to academic resilience. Parenting style was also found to be indirectly and positively related to academic resilience via self-efficacy and academic motivation, respectively, and sequentially. More crucially, it was discovered that the direct association was far lower than the indirect effects, with self-efficacy being the most effective. The study indicates a relationship between parenting style and academic resilience in adolescents, with self-efficacy and academic motivation acting as the main mediators. These findings emphasize the significance of these intermediary elements, implying that they play a larger role than the direct influence of parenting style alone.

Academic Resilience and Engagement in High School Students: The Mediating Role of Perceived Teacher Emotional Support

Abstract:Academic resilience is the ability to overcome setbacks and chronic difficulties in the academic context. Previous studies have found that resilient students tend to be more engaged in school than their counterparts. Nevertheless, it seems worth deepening the role of contextual factors, such as teacher emotional support and how students perceive it, as it could contribute to foster the abovementioned relationship. The present study aimed to examine the links between academic resilience, perceived teacher emotional support, and school engagement. Moreover, the mediating role of perceived teacher emotional support was investigated. A sample of 205 Italian high school students (58.5% female), aged 14–19 years (M = 16.15, SD = 1.59), completed self-report questionnaires on academic resilience, perceived teacher emotional support, and school engagement. A structural equation model (SEM) was used to test the mediation hypothesis. The results showed that academic resilience was associated with perceived teacher emotional support, and both of them were related to school engagement. Furthermore, perceived teacher emotional support partially mediated the relationship between academic resilience and school engagement. Findings were discussed by underlining the importance of fostering personal and contextual resources in the school context to promote students’ well-being.
Mediating Role of Self-Efficacy in the Relationship Between Optimism, Psychological Well-Being, and Resilience Among Iranian Students

Abstract:The present study aims to examine whether self-efficacy mediates the relationship between optimism, dimensions of psychological well-being, and resilience among Iranian students. The participants in this study included 251 Iranian students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Structural equation modeling using AMOS 20.0 was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that there were significant relationships between optimism, dimensions of psychological well-being, and resilience among Iranian students of UPM. The study findings presented that self-efficacy mediated the relationship between dimensions of psychological well-being (environmental mastery, autonomy, self-acceptance, positive relations with others, personal growth, and purpose in life) and resilience among Iranian students of UPM. Furthermore, self-efficacy was not observed to mediate the influence of optimism on resilience among Iranian students of UPM. The study’s findings help to understand the interrelationship between self-efficacy, various dimensions of psychological well-being, and resilience. Consequently, counselors, psychologists, and instructors can develop and plan valuable strategies to enhance students’ psychological factors.

Abstract:Language Teaching Research, Ahead of Print. The current study investigated the relationship between students' perceived teacher–student relationship (SPTSR) and their performance in English via multiple mediation effects of resilience and autonomous learning in the Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) context. The participants were 15,184 eighth-graders from China. Results of the multilevel mediation model revealed that after controlling for students' gender, socioeconomic status (SES), and school type, the positive association between SPTSR and students' academic outcomes in English was partially and serially mediated by the resilience and autonomous learning. The current study sheds new light on the crucial mediating roles of resilience and autonomous learning in improving EFL learners' English proficiency. We recommend that English language teachers establish a friendly and equal classroom climate, which may enhance students' resilience to cope with learning setbacks. Such positive beliefs help stimulate students' autonomy in English language learning, which in turn promotes performance in learning English.

Abstract:Although there is a growing interest in identifying the variables that enhance student school adjustment, there is a lack of understanding of the mechanisms involved in it during adolescence. Despite there being works that confirm the positive relationship between school climate and academic performance, it is still unresolved which of the more specific aspects of climate are linked to this performance, as well as the degree to which an individual variable such as resilience can play a mediating role between both; these unknown factors constitute the objective of this study. A total of 731 students (mean age, Mage = 15.20 years; Standard Deviation, SD = 1.62) from the Basque Country participated; they completed the PACE-33 -school climate scale-, the CD-RISC10 -resilience scale- and the EBAE-10 -perceived academic performance subscale-. The full mediation model and the partial mediation model were tested. The results show that the model of choice is that of partial mediation: the resilience mediates the relationship between two specific aspects of the school climate (peer relationship and teachers’ ability to motivate) and perceived academic performance, and a third specific aspect (teachers’ expectations) has a direct relationship with perceived academic performance. These findings highlight the importance of attending to variables specific to the context in which the subject interacts, with the role of the teacher being especially important, in addition to promoting the development of resilience, due to the weight it has on the perception that students have about their school performance.

Abstract:Over the past few decades, there has been a noticeable focus on adolescents' learning and participation activities. Surveys and studies conducted in academic schools in China have reported an increase in cases of adolescents experiencing learning difficulties. The previouis research has linked the concept of learning difficulties and disabilities within the broader cultural, social, and academic context. Existing studies shed light on various factors responsible for triggering learning difficulties and how to resolve them. The literature commonly identifies academic factors, such as the school environment and teaching styles, as potential causes of learning difficulties. However, studies have often neglected social elements, including the role of parents and an individual's self-efficacy. This study examines personal and social factors to analyze their impact on the psychological resilience of adolescents. A quantitative design was adopted where data was collected from adolescents across China through Wen Juan Xing. The findings imply that parental involvement, but not self-efficacy, significantly impacts psychological resilience. Additionally, it was discovered that parental involvement, self-efficacy, and psychological resilience weren’t mediated by achievement motivation. The findings from the study can be used by parents, managers, and other children welfare organizations to develop policies and processes that are supportive of the development and resilience of the adolescents.

Abstract:Introduction. The present study aims to predict students’ academic achievements based on the classroom climate, the mediating role of teacher-student interaction and academic motivation among Semnan University students. Materials and Methods. This study relied on correlation-and-description method of data collection. The sample population consisted of all undergraduate and postgraduate students at the Faculty of Engineering of Semnan University in the academic year of 2017–2018. Using a random stratified method, 200 subjects were selected as the sample (135 undergraduate and 65 master). Questionnaires of Patrick, Kaplan and Ryan’s classroom climate, Hernandez-Lopez’ teacher-student scale, Vallerand’s academic motivation questionnaire and Pace and Kuh’s student academic achievement scale were used. Reliability of the questionnaires was confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha test. Results. There is significant positive relationship between academic achievement and classroom climate, teacher-student interaction and academic motivation. Classroom climate has a direct and meaningful effect on students’ academic achievements. Also, the climate of the classroom by mediating the teacher-student interaction has indirect and significant effects on students’ academic achievements. Classroom climate by mediating educational motivation has an indirect and significant effect on students’ academic achievement. Discussion and Conclusion. The results of this study suggest the importance of openness to the classroom climate, interaction between teacher-student and academic motivation is to increase students’ academic achievements.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The importance of spirituality and spiritual growth in humans has been increasingly taken to attention by psychologists and mental health professionals. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the tendency to aggression and individual resilience also considering the role of mediator of spirituality in academic students by path analysis.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted using structural equation method (SEM). The target population consisted all of undergraduate academic students in Ilam, Iran University of Applied Sciences, in 2018. Participants included 200 people whom were selected by stratified random sampling. Data collection tools were demographic, Buss and Perry aggression, spirituality assessment, and resiliency of Connor and Davidson questionnaire. In this study, bivariate analysis was used to determine the directionality correlation between the study variables.RESULTS: The results showed that there was a significant and positive correlation between spirituality and resilience (r = 154% r = 83%). Furthermore, there was a negative and nonsignificant relationship between aggression with resiliency (r = -122% P = 101). In addition, there was no significant correlation between the aggression and spirituality (r = 0.05%, P = 0.942). The results of SEM showed that spirituality and aggression can predict about 20% of the variations in the degree of resilience in academic students. Accordingly, the results of SEM spirituality in an indirect path reduce the aggression and thus increase the resilience (r = 0.102).CONCLUSION: The results of this study showed the effect of spirituality on increasing the level of resilience and also positive mediator role of spirituality between aggression and resiliency.
The Mediating Effect of Academic Resilience on the Relationship Between Psychological Resilience and Academic Achievement

Abstract:The aim of this study is to examine the mediating effect of academic resentment in mathematics on the relationship between the psychological resilience of secondary school students and the academic achievement of mathematics courses. In the study, the relational screening model was used from quantitative research models. The study group consists of a total of 140 students, 65 girls, and 75 boys, who are studying in the 6th and 7th grades of secondary schools in the İzmit district of Kocaeli province in the 2022-2023 academic year. The Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), Academic Resilience Scale in Mathematics and grade point averages of mathematics courses were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed with SPSS 27 statistical analysis program and the added Process patch. As a result of the research, it was determined that there were positive significant relationships between psychological resilience and academic resilience, psychological resilience and academic achievement, and academic resilience and academic achievement variables. In addition, it was concluded that mathematics had a mediating effect on the relationship between psychological resilience and academic achievement.
Social-emotional competence, social adequacy, and self-regulation among Iranian female high school students

Abstract:The research aimed to investigate the association between social-emotional competence and social adequacy with the self-regulation of female high school students in Tehran. The sample of the current study consisted of 250 female participants from the student community in different educational areas of Tehran, who were selected using the multi-stage cluster sampling method. The measurement tools were: The social-emotional competence scale, the social adequacy scale and the self-regulation questionnaire. The findings revealed a positive association between social-emotional competence, social adequacy, and self-regulation among Iranian female students. Resulted of regression analysis showed that self-regulation was positively predicted by social-emotional competence and social adequacy. Enhancing social competence, particularly in emotional and psychological aspects, can improve students' adaptation and well-being. This can help prevent issues such as social rejection, substance abuse, and depression in both their school environment and future personal and professional lives. Additionally, it is important to implement various intervention programs targeting parents and teachers to raise awareness about social-emotional competence and social adequacy in adolescent girls, as well as strategies for fostering these skills. This will improve their mental health and help prevent the development of various addictive behaviors.

Abstract:Background and aims: Cognitive emotion regulation strategies enhance students’ ability to handle emotional and stressful situations and lead to resilient behavior and suitable behavioral performance. The present study aimed to investigate the association of addiction tendency with distress tolerance, self-differentiation, and emotion regulation difficulties mediated by resilience in university students. Methods: This was a descriptive-correlational study using structural equation modeling (SEM). Cluster sampling was used to enroll 314 individuals among all students at the Islamic Azad University of Tehran in the academic year 2020-2021. The research instruments included the Shorter PROMIS Questionnaire (SPQ), the Distress Tolerance Scale-Short Form (DTS-SF), the Self-Other Differentiation Scale (SODS), the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ), and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Data were analyzed by the SEM method using SPSS-26 and SmartPLS. Results: The results showed that distress tolerance (β=0.25, P<0.001) and emotion regulation difficulties (β=0.35, P<0.001) had a significant direct association with resilience. In addition, distress tolerance (β=0.14, P<0.001), self-differentiation (β=0.25, P<0.001), emotion regulation difficulties (β=0.27, P<0.001), and resilience (β=0.22, P<0.001) had a significant direct relationship with addictive tendencies. Moreover, resilience mediated the association of distress tolerance and emotion regulation difficulties with addictive tendencies in college students. Conclusion: The proposed model had the desired fitting based on the results. It is a great step toward understanding factors associated with addiction tendencies in university students. Furthermore, it is an appropriate model, according to which various programs can be developed and designed to prevent addiction tendencies among university students.

Abstract:(1) Background: The current study aimed to examine the mediating role of psychosocial factors in academic performance in higher education based on the adaptation of teaching due to COVID-19. (2) Methods: The methodological design is descriptive–exploratory, cross-sectional, and ex post-facto, using a structural equation model in a sample of 824 university students from Granada. For data collection, the AF-5 questionnaire was used for self-concept; EME-E for motivation, REIS for emotional intelligence, and CD-RISC for resilience, in addition to a specific questionnaire for sociodemographic and academic data. (3) Results: The findings show that (a) academic performance was positively related to personal competence and inversely related to self-confidence, with a higher regression weight in students who did not experience adaptations; that (b) there is a positive relationship between intrinsic motivation and academic performance; that (c) personal competence helped to decrease demotivation in students; and that (d) a positive self-concept acts as a protective factor against demotivation. (4) Conclusions: Therefore, the relevance of educational institutions in the holistic development of young adults is highlighted, ensuring not only academic success but also the emotional and personal well-being of students in a constantly changing world.
Designing an academic self-regulatory model based on basic psychological needs and family communication model mediated by positive adolescent development and Academic Aspiration

Abstract:Background and Aim: Many factors are involved in the academic success of students, and academic self-regulation is one of them. Academic self-regulation can be an influencing variable on academic progress and prevention of academic failure, and it has been the focus of many researchers in recent years. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of examining the fit of the academic self-regulation model based on the basic psychological needs and the family communication model with the mediation of positive adolescent development and academic enthusiasm. Methods: This study was a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population included male high school male students in the city who were selected by cluster sampling from 420 students and with the standard scale of satisfying basic psychological needs Ganyeh (2003), revised questionnaire of communication patterns of Koerner and Fitzpatrick family (2002), self-administered questionnaire. Savari and Arabzadeh (2013), Goldoff et al. (2014) Adolescent Positive Development Questionnaire and Shuffle et al.'s (2002) Academic Achievement Questionnaire were evaluated. Data were analyzed using Smart PLS3 statistical software. Results: The findings indicated that the positive development of adolescence and academic aspiration play a mediating role between academic self-regulation based on basic psychological needs and family communication pattern (P <0.0). Endogenous variables could explain 77% of the variance of academic self-regulation. Conclusion: Based on the results, it can be concluded that the relationship between academic self-regulatory variable and psychological variables and family factors is not direct and factors such academic aspiration and positive adolescent development can play a role.
The Mediating Role of Psychological Resilience in the Relationship of Adverse Childhood Experiences With Academic Achievement

Abstract:Psychological Reports, Ahead of Print. In this study, the mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between negative childhood experiences and academic achievement was examined. The sample of the study consists of 405 participants who graduated from state universities in Turkey in the spring semester of 2022–2023. In the study, the Adverse Childhood Experiences Scale, the Brief Psychological Resilience Scale, and the general weighted grade point average in the university graduation transcripts of the participants were used as data collection tools. The relationships between variables were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis using Process Macro (Model 4). In the regression analysis, mediation was tested with the Bootstrap technique. According to the results, there were significant negative relationships between adverse childhood experiences and academic achievement and psychological resilience, while there were significant positive relationships between psychological resilience and academic achievement. In addition, adverse childhood experiences are a predictor of academic achievement, and psychological resilience has a partial mediating role in the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and academic achievement. It is thought that the results obtained may contribute to the field within the scope of preventive and intervention guidance services to increase the academic achievement of university students with adverse childhood experiences.

Abstract:Educational context has an important influence on adolescents’ development and well-being, which also affects their academic performance. Previous empirical studies highlight the importance of levels of emotional intelligence for students’ academic performance. Despite several studies having analyzed the association and underlying mechanisms linking emotional intelligence and academic performance, further research, including both personal and contextual dimensions, is necessary to better understand this relation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to deepen the understanding of the effect of emotional intelligence has on academic performance, examining the possible mediating role of flourishing and the moderating role of the teacher-student relationship. A convenience sample of 283 adolescents (49.8% female), aged 12–18 years ( M = 14.42, SD = 1.12), participated in a cross-sectional study by completing self-report questionnaires measuring emotional intelligence (Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale), flourishing (Flourishing Scale), and teacher-student relationship (Inventory of Teacher-Student Relationships) and reported their grades of the previous term on four mandatory subjects in the Spanish education curriculum. Results indicated that flourishing completely mediated the path from emotional intelligence to academic performance and that teacher-student relationship was a significant moderator in this model. Thus, in adolescents with worse teacher-student relationship, the association of emotional intelligence and flourishing was stronger than in adolescents with better teacher-student relationship. In turn, flourishing was positively associated with academic performance. These results suggest that it is crucial to foster better teacher-student relationship, especially in adolescents with low emotional intelligence, and to positively impact their well-being and their academic performance.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to analyse emotional regulation and psychological resilience in adolescents, exploring various variables and their interrelationships. A descriptive and relational survey model was used in the study, which included a sample of 967 adolescents in Turkey. Data were collected using a "Personal Information Form," the "Emotion Regulation Scale for Adolescents" and the "Adolescents Psychological Resilience Scale." The results showed that adolescents' psychological resilience differed according to gender and maternal education level, while emotional regulation strategies differed according to gender, socioeconomic level and parental education level. There was a relationship between adolescents' psychological resilience and their internal functional emotional regulation strategies. Furthermore, factors such as peer support, school support, adjustment and empathy were found to be effective in improving adolescents' emotional regulation strategies.

Abstract:The present study aimed to examine and compare resilience, optimism, and self-efficacy in delinquent and normal adolescents in Fars Province, Iran. The statistical population comprised 100 delinquent adolescents in Shiraz Juvenile Detention Centre and 100 normal adolescents. Research hypotheses were investigated in this descriptive-analytical study using Scheier and Carver’s Life Orientation Test, the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, and Sherer’s Self-Efficacy Scale and statistical analysis was conducted using independent samples t-test. Results showed that there was a significant difference between two groups of adolescents in terms of the optimism, resilience and self-efficacy. The optimism in adolescents had a significant impact on the mental health and behaviour of them and plays an important role in the personal and social life of individual. Furthermore, the resilience and self-efficacy have crucial roles in the life of adolescents. Having any of these traits and enhancing and improving them play important roles in the life of adolescents.

It is thought that some negative processes such as anxiety sensitivity, social and adaptive functioning, and school refusal can affect this problem. On the other hand, it is considered that the academic resilience of young people has an important protective function in terms of these risk factors. For this purpose, the mediator role of academic resilience between anxiety sensitivity, social and adaptive functioning, and school refusal and school attachment were examined in a Turkish sample of 452 high school students. In the process of data collection, the school refusal assessment scale, social and adaptive functioning scale, and academic resilience scale were adapted and used in the Turkish culture. In the data analysis, the structural equation model was used to determine the direct and indirect predictive effects between the variables. The results of the study showed that academic resilience fully mediated the relationship between anxiety sensitivity and school attachment, whereas it partially mediated the relationship between social and adaptive functioning and school refusal and school attachment. Based on the results of the study, it was evaluated that high academic resilience has a strong protective function against the problems of negative school attachment and problematic school absenteeism among young people, and this finding was discussed within the context of literature.

Abstract:Introduction: Improving students' academic performance is related to various factors. Identifying and modifying these factors can improve academic performance. The study investigated the relationship between resilience, locus of control, and general health with students' academic performance. Method: The study is a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study consisting of 415 students. Resilience, source of control, and public health were investigated by using standard questionnaires, and the correlation of these scores with the academic performance of the students was evaluated. Results: A comparison of the average scores of resilience, locus of control, and general health with the student's academic status showed that those who had a GPA higher than 16.92 had a higher score of resilience, locus of control, and general health, but it was not reported significant. In comparing the internal and external control dimensions of the source of control, it was shown that people with an external source have a significantly higher grade point average. Also, there is a relationship between the variables of resilience, source of control, and general health with academic performance, and between the variables of source of control and resilience with academic performance. Significant was reported. Conclusion: It is recommended to organize practical education areas and workshops to enhance resilience, general health, and life skills based on the findings of the academic progress study.
