Abstract:All-inorganic lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have attracted enormous attention owing to their excellent optical properties such as ultrahigh photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY), narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) and broad emission spectra tunability. In this study, we reported the synthesis of colloidal perovskite NCs based on CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 composite structure. With the assistance of Tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOAB) ligands, the prepared CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs show high PLQY of 94.7% and enhanced stability. The crystal morphology and phase structure of the CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs were investigated by HRTEM and XRD measurements. In addition, the crystal morphology of CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs presents cubic and circular particles with an average size of 9.3 nm. Compared with CsPbBr3 NCs, the diphase CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 composite materials can perform higher optical properties due to the in-situ passivation of the generated Cs4PbBr6 NCs. Furthermore, the fabricated LED device exhibits bright white light emission with a color coordinate of (0.335, 0.337), the corresponding color temperature of 5390 K and a color rendering index of 82.1 under the injection current of 30 mA. These results demonstrate that the obtained CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs have a potential application in white light-emitting and display devices.

Abstract:Halide perovskite semiconductors have emerged as promising materials for the development of solution-processed, scalable, and high-performance optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as well as coherent single photon emitters. Their integration into nanophotonic cavities for radiative enhancement and strong nonlinearity is underexplored. In this work, we demonstrate cavity-enhanced emission and saturable absorption using colloidal CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots coupled to a high-Q cavity mode of a circular Bragg grating structure designed to facilitate the integration of solution-processed materials. We achieve an order of magnitude increase in brightness and an 8-fold increase in the spontaneous emission rate for the cavity-coupled emitters. This result indicates the possibility of achieving transform-limited photon coherence for the halide perovskites at cryogenic temperatures. We also observe saturable absorption of the emitters through the intensity-dependent cavity quality factor. These results pave the way toward achieving improved photon indistinguishability and strong optical nonlinearities for cavity-coupled perovskite systems.

Highly efficient and stable CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots by encapsulation in dual-shell hollow silica spheres for WLEDs

Abstract:Poor stability of CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br or I) perovskite quantum dots (QDs) has greatly hindered their practical photoelectric applications, and how to improve it still remains a critical challenge. Herein, we encapsulated CsPbBr3 QDs into dual-shell hollow silica (SiO2) spheres via a simple successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method. The hierarchical dual-shell structures permit CsPbBr3 QDs to be anchored on the interior of the SiO2 spheres while keeping the outside surface undisturbed, which can protect the CsPbBr3 QDs from direct exposure to the atmosphere. Due to the comprehensive protection of dual-shell hollow SiO2 spheres, the CsPbBr3/SiO2 nanospheres exhibit markedly enhanced stability against light and heat, with a residual PL intensity of 89% after continuous exposure for 72 h to UV light and 65% after 100 °C heat treatment, respectively. In addition, an optimal PLQY of 89% is obtained with suppressed nonradiative recombination. Finally, the fabricated white light-emitting diode (LED) device by employing CsPbBr3/SiO2 green phosphors could achieve a wide color gamut covering up to 136% of the NTSC standard. This work provides a novel SiO2-based encapsulation approach to solve the intrinsic instability issues of CsPbBr3 QDs, which has a profound impact on their practical applications.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskites have emerged as a new class of phosphor materials owing to their outstanding optical properties. Zero-dimensional inorganic perovskites, in particular the Cs4PbBr6-related systems, are inspiring intensive research owing to the high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and good stability. However, synthesizing such perovskites with high PLQYs through an environment-friendly, cost-effective, scalable, and high-yield approach remains challenging, and their luminescence mechanisms has been elusive. Here, we report a simple, scalable, room-temperature self-assembly strategy for the synthesis of Cs4PbBr6/CsPbBr3 perovskite composites with near-unity PLQY (95%), high product yield (71%), and good stability using low-cost, low-toxicity chemicals as precursors. A broad range of experimental and theoretical characterizations suggest that the high-efficiency PL originates from CsPbBr3 nanocrystals well passivated by the zero-dimensional Cs4PbBr6 matrix that forms based on a dissolution-crystallization process. These findings underscore the importance in accurately identifying the phase purity of zero-dimensional perovskites by synchrotron X-ray technique to gain deep insights into the structure-property relationship. Additionally, we demonstrate that green-emitting Cs4PbBr6/CsPbBr3, combined with red-emitting K2SiF6:Mn4+, can be used for the construction of WLEDs. Our work may pave the way for the use of such composite perovskites as highly luminescent emitters in various applications such as lighting, displays, and other optoelectronic and photonic devices.

Abstract:Abstract All‐inorganic CsPbBr 3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) exhibit excellent photoelectric properties and application prospects in the field of light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) and display devices. However, these possess poor long‐term stability to UV irradiation, water, heat, and oxygen. Using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) as the matrix along with CH 3 (CH 2 ) 16 COOCs, [CH 3 (CH 2 ) 16 COO] 2 Pb, and KBr as the perovskite sources, CsPbBr 3 PQDs/PMMA composites are for the first time prepared via an in situ polymeric melt encapsulation method. Special attention is paid to the effects of synthesis conditions on the photoluminescent quantum yield (PLQY) of the composites. The optimized CsPbBr 3 PQDs/PMMA composite reveals excellent performance with ≈82.7% PLQY and ≈18.6 nm full width at a half‐maximum (FWHM). In particular, after 90 h of UV irradiation or 35 days of heating at 60 °C, the luminous intensity remains almost unchanged. In addition, after soaking in water for 15 days, it retains up to ≈53% of the initial luminous intensity, meaning that the composite possesses long‐term stability to UV irradiation, heat, and water. The as‐prepared white LED (WLED) based on the composite evidences the wide color gamut (126.5% National Television System Committee (NTSC)) and a luminous efficiency of 32 lm W −1 . This work offers a novel, easily industrialized one‐step, and solvent free route for low‐temperature synthesis of all‐inorganic PQDs with broad application prospects.

Abstract:Gradual exposure to water vapor of Cs4PbBr6 confined within a nanoporous metal oxide network allows the formation of CsPbBr3 inclusions, whose size is controlled via capillary condensation, displaying intense, stable and efficient (PLQY ≈ 40–50%) blue‐to‐green emission (λ ≈ 475–515 nm). Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals are attractive for light emitting devices both as electroluminescent and color‐converting materials since they combine intense and narrow emissions with good charge injection and transport properties. However, while most perovskite nanocrystals shine at green and red wavelengths, the observation of intense and stable blue emission still remains a challenging target. In this work, a method is reported to attain intense and enduring blue emission (470–480 nm), with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 40%, originating from very small CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (diameter < 3 nm) formed by controllably exposing Cs4PbBr6 to humidity. This process is mediated by the void network of a mesoporous transparent scaffold in which the zero‐dimensional Cs4PbBr6 lattice is embedded, which allows the fine control over water adsorption and condensation that determines the optimization of the synthetic procedure and, eventually, the nanocrystal size. The approach provides a means to attain highly efficient transparent and stable blue light‐emitting films that complete the palette offered by perovskite nanocrystals for lighting and display applications.

Abstract:Abstract Metal halide perovskites (MHPs, CsPbX3: X = Cl, Br, I) have advanced the field of optoelectronic devices due to their remarkable light‐emitting capabilities, stemming from the large overlap between their emission and absorption spectra, offering the possibility to reabsorb their own emitted photons. Herein, a straightforward method is reported to confine CsPbBr 3 into mesoporous silica films with a chiral nematic structure, allowing the amplification of the photoluminescence (PL). The simple room temperature ligand‐free synthesis allows facile growth of CsPbBr 3 in silica photonic films, in which the Bragg peak position can be tuned from the UV to the visible range. The perovskite/silica films demonstrate a remarkable improvement in PL intensity and lifetime compared to the as‐synthesized non‐confined perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) due to the overlap of the Bragg peak position of the chiral nematic photonic films and CsPbBr 3 absorption band. Such a PL enhancement stems from the slow photon effect induced at blue and red Bragg peak edges that facilitates the photon recycling of the emitted photons. This innovative approach offers a new way to fabricate highly emissive and long‐lived photoluminescent films at ambient conditions, potentially advancing perovskite utilization in light‐emitting devices.

Abstract:Practical application of colloidal fully inorganic perovskite-quantum-dots (PQDs) has been severely hindered because of their poor intrinsic stability and unsatisfactory photoluminescence quantum yields (PL QYs) in a powder state. Herein, we propose a new synthesis route to encapsulate CsPbBr3 PQDs with a poly-diphenylvinylphosphine-styrene copolymer (PDPEP-co-S) based on a one-pot hot-injection strategy. Different from conventional thermal polymerization, this strategy does not require any polar solvents during the synthesis process. The obtained CsPbBr3 co-S composite powder possesses a record PL QY of 90%, which is the highest value ever reported for halide PQDs composites to date. More importantly, the encapsulated CsPbBr3 PQDs composite shows a good long-term stability against the external environment, such as water, methanol and UV light irradiation, which is of great significance for its practical application. Furthermore, the embedded CsPbBr3 PQDs are shown to be easily released from the copolymer matrix, which is very important for making all-solution-processed devices. Finally, a white light-emitting diode with a high luminous efficiency of 90 lm/W was successfully demonstrated based on these high-brightness CsPbBr3 co-S phosphors, which indicates its promising potential in future illumination applications.

Abstract:The strategy for the preparation of CsPbBr3 perovskite quantum dots by the high‐temperature solid‐phase melting method due to the confinement effect of mesoporous SiO2 microspheres, which demonstrated excellent stability and white LED performance, is reported. Perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have attracted widespread attention in optoelectronic fields due to their excellent optical properties. However, their instability issue hampers their further development and practical application. Herein, CsPbBr3 PQDs embedded in mesoporous SiO2 microspheres (CsPbBr3 PQDs/MSs) are prepared by the high‐temperature solid‐phase melting method due to the confinement effect. The prepared CsPbBr3 PQDs/MSs are treated by saturated Na2SO4 to form PbSO4 precipitation to fulfill the mesoporous gap. And such treatment endows the QDs with excellent water, light irradiation, and heating stability. The prepared products can maintain over 80% of the original fluorescence intensity even when it is immersed in water for 2 weeks. The CsPbBr3 PQDs/MSs are utilized in the white light‐emitting diode device with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage color coordinates of (0.3407, 0.3357) at 20 mA, and exhibit excellent photo stability at high power.

Abstract:Photoluminescence (PL) of CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) is tuned through placing QDs in the 2 nm tetrahedral amorphous carbon gap region of collapsible Ag dimer nanofingers. The resultant polarization‐dependent PL shows a quadric dependence on the incident power and lasing‐like PL spectra are successfully realized at room temperature by continuous‐wave laser excitation. All‐inorganic perovskites have recently drawn considerable attention due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. With the help of gap‐plasmon nanostructures, the optical properties of perovskites can be tuned through the coupled near‐field. Here, the optical coupling between CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) and gap‐plasmon through placing QDs in a 2‐nm tetrahedral amorphous carbon gap region of collapsible Ag nanofingers is demonstrated. Compared to the CsPbBr3 QDs on SiO2, the photoluminescence (PL) of CsPbBr3 QDs on collapsed nanofinger is enhanced by 4 times and the lifetime decreases from 11.04 to 3.8 ns. A Purcell‐enhanced emission can be achieved by combining QDs and plasmonic nanofingers. In addition, the intensity of PL can be manipulated by the polarization of incident light because of the different polarization responses of dimer nanofingers. More importantly, PL intensity shows a quadric dependence on the incident power and lasing‐like PL spectra can be observed at room temperature by continuous‐wave laser excitation. Such observations can be ascribed to the strong coupling between CsPbBr3 QDs and surrounding Ag nanofingers. This finding indicates that it is possible to achieve lasing‐like PL through coupling CsPbBr3 QDs to the near‐field of plasmonic nanostructures, which can enrich the applications of CsPbBr3 QDs in nanolasing devices.

Abstract:Series of silver nanoparticles (NPs) embedded CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) glass was synthesized via the melt-quench method. Ag NPs and CsPbBr3 QDs coexist in the TEM image of the Ag-doped glass sample. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra show that the 0.1 molar ratio Ag2O-doped sample had a PL intensity 2.37 times than the undoped sample. This increase is generated by localized surface plasmon resonance coupling between the Ag NPs and CsPbBr3 QDs. Excessive Ag doping weakens the PL intensity due to spectral self-absorption of the Ag NP surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Self-adsorption of SPR is detrimental to luminescence properties because it increases the amount of photogenerated charge carriers, which proceed through nonradiative relaxation pathways. In addition, stability results of Ag NP-doped-CsPbBr3 QD glass show that they have excellent stability. This study on Ag NP-doped-CsPbBr3 QD glass provides a new idea for the future development of perovskite QD optoelectronic devices.
Highly Efficient CsPbBr3 Perovskite Nanocrystal Light-Emitting Diodes with Enhanced Stability Via Colloidal Layer-by-Layer Deposition

Abstract:A facile colloidal layer-by-layer deposition of amorphous AlOx is applied on the CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs). The CsPbBr3 PNCs show improved photoluminescence intensity and excellent water resistance due to the fine control on the thickness of AlOx at the nanoscale. The irradiation induced by the mixing of the CsPbBr3 and CsPbI3 PNCs is well suppressed due to the inhibition of anion exchange. Moreover, the AlOx-treated CsPbBr3 PNCs are integrated into a light-emitting diode and the external quantum efficiency (EQE) is improved to 6.05% with a high luminance of 32,747 cd/m(2) due to optimized band alignment. Additionally, the luminance T-50 lifetime of the fabricated device is prolonged by more than 4 times. This work provides a solution-compatible modification of colloidal PNCs to achieve high luminescence and stability, which is promising in the practical applications of PNC-based devices.
In Situ Embedding Synthesis of CsPbBr 3 @Ce-MOF@SiO 2 Nanocomposites for High Efficiency Light-Emitting Diodes: Suppressing Reabsorption Losses through the Waveguiding Effect

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PQDs), which possess outstanding photophysical properties, are regarded as promising materials for optoelectronic applications. However, the poor light conversion efficiency and severe stability problem hinder their widespread applications. In this work, a novel encapsulation strategy is developed through the in situ growth of CsPbX3 PQDs in presynthesized mesoporous cerium-based metal organic frameworks (Ce-MOFs) and further silane hydrolysis-encapsulation, generating stable CsPbX3@Ce-MOF@SiO2 composites with greatly enhanced light conversion efficiency. Moreover, the simulation results suggest that the pore boundary of Ce-MOFs has a strong waveguide effect on the incident PQD light, constraining PQD light inside the bodies of Ce-MOFs and suppressing reabsorption losses, thus increasing the overall light conversion efficiency of PQDs. Meanwhile, the Ce-MOF@SiO2 protective shell effectively improves the stability by blocking internally embedded PQDs from the harmful external environment. Further, the obtained white-light-emitting diode shows an ultrahigh luminous efficiency of 87.8 lm/W, which demonstrates their great potential in optoelectronic applications.

Abstract:All-inorganic CsPbBr 3 perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) show superior photophysical properties and great potential in various optoelectronic devices, but their low lattice formation energy and high delocalization of surface ions make it susceptible to ambient conditions. In this work, hierarchical silicalite-1 zeolite co-templated by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) was applied to encapsulate CsPbBr 3 PQDs. Particularly, distinct nanosized CNTs, mass ratios of zeolite to CsPbBr 3 , and thermal diffusion temperature were systematically studied to optimize the loading capacity and luminescent efficiency of CsPbBr 3 PQDs. Consequently, the micro-/mesoporous structured silicalite-1 confined CsPbBr 3 PQDs composite obtained at 700 °C exhibited the best luminescent performance with a full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 25 nm, a high PLQY (~ 61.9 %) and ultrahigh stability (> 100 days in H 2 O). The CsPbBr 3 /Silicalite-1 nanocomposite shows dual-mode temperature monitoring performance in terms of fluorescence emission intensity and spectral shift, rendering it promising prospect acting as credible optical thermometer. Latent fingerprint identification and selective Fe 3+ fluorescence sensing applicability of the CsPbBr 3 /Silicalite-1 nanocomposite were then developed. Intense and Stable Blue Light Emission from CsPbBr$_3$/Cs$_4$PbBr$_6$ Heterostructures Embedded in Transparent Nanoporous Films

Abstract:Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals are attractive for light emitting devices both as electroluminescent and color converting materials, since they combine intense and narrow emissions with good charge injection and transport properties. However, most perovskite nanocrystals shine at green and red wavelengths, the observation of intense and stable blue emission still being a challenging target. In this work, we report a method to attain intense and enduring blue emission (470-480 nm), with a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 40%, originated from very small CsPbBr$_3$ nanocrystals (diameter<3nm) formed by controllably exposing Cs$_4$PbBr$_6$ to humidity. This process is mediated by the void network of a mesoporous transparent scaffold in which the zero-dimensional (0D) Cs$_4$PbBr$_6$ lattice is embedded, which allows the fine control over water adsorption and condensation that determines the optimization of the synthetic procedure and, eventually, the nanocrystal size. By temperature dependent photoemission analysis of samples with different [CsPbBr$_3$]/[Cs$_4$PbBr$_6$] volume ratios, we show that the bright blue emission observed results from the efficient charge transfer to the CsPbBr$_3$ inclusions from the Cs$_4$PbBr$_6$ host. Our approach provides a means to attain highly efficient transparent blue light emitting films that complete the palette offered by perovskite nanocrystals for lighting and display applications.

Abstract:N-Methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor subunit 2A (NR2A) is an important modulatory component of the NMDA subtype of glutamate receptors. To investigate the transcription mechanism of the NR2A gene, we cloned the 5′-flanking sequence from a rat genomic library. RNA mapping with rat brain RNA revealed two sets of major and several minor transcription start points in a single exon of 1140 bp. Reporter gene and mutation studies indicated that core promoter activity resided in exon 1, whereas the 5′-flanking sequence up to 1.5 kb showed no significant impact on promoter activity. Fragments containing minor transcription start points were able to drive a reporter gene in transfected cells and produce nascent RNAs in an in vitro transcription system. All fragments tested showed more promoter activity in dissociated neurons of the rat embryonic cerebrocortex and cell lines expressing NR2A mRNA than that in glial cultures and non-neuronal cells. Within exon 1 there are three GC-box elements that displayed distinct binding affinity to both Sp1- and Sp4-like factors. Overexpression of Sp1 or Sp4, but not Sp3, significantly increased the activity of the promoter containing these elements. Inclusion of exon 2 and 3 sequences, which contain five short open-reading frames, attenuated promoter-driven reporter activity more than 3-fold but attenuated the level of reporter mRNA less than 1.4-fold. Our results suggest that the core promoter of the rat NR2A gene requires exon 1, that Sp factors positively regulate this core promoter, and that a post-transcriptional mechanism may negatively regulate expression of the gene.
Steady and Transient Optical Properties of CsPbBr3/Pb3(PO4)2 Perovskite Quantum Dots for White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract:Surface passivation has been widely accepted as an effective method to improve the stability and photoluminescence performance of perovskite quantum dots (QDs). In this paper, we report Pb3(PO4)2 coated CsPbBr3 QDs as the phosphor materials for white light-emitting diodes. The Pb3(PO4)2 coating layer could effectively improve the stability and optical properties of CsPbBr3 QDs, including photoluminescence (PL) intensity, average PL lifetime, and PL quantum yield. Moreover, the temperature-dependent PL spectra of CsPbBr3 and CsPbBr3/Pb3(PO4)2 QDs were investigated. It was found that the exciton binding energy and electron-phonon coupling effect of CsPbBr3/Pb3(PO4)2 QDs was larger than that of uncoated QDs. According to the results of transient absorption (TA), intraband hot-exciton relaxation and exciton recombination can be slowed down when the CsPbBr3 QDs were coated with Pb3(PO4)2. In addition, white light-emitting diode devices were fabricated by integrating the green CsPbBr3/ Pb3(PO4)2 QDs and red CsPbBr1I2/ Pb3(PO4)2 QDs on the blue GaN chips. The devices showed stable white light emission with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage color coordinates of (0.297, 0.333). As indicated by the results, Pb3(PO4)2 coated perovskite QDs could be an ideal down-conversion fluorescent material for white light-emitting diode devices.

Abstract:Owing to their outstanding optoelectronic properties, all-inorganic CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are regarded as excellent materials for various optoelectronic applications. Unfortunately, their practical applications are limited by poor stability against water, heat, and polar solvents. Here, we propose a facile synthesis strategy for CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs via tetraoctylammonium bromide ligand induction at room temperature. The resulting CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs show a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 94%. In order to prevent Cs4PbBr6 from being converted back to CsPbBr3 NCs when exposed to water, a second coating layer of SiO2 is formed on the surface of the CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6 NCs by the facile hydrolysis of tetramethoxysilane. The resulting CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6/SiO2 NCs with their double coating structure have outstanding stability against not only a polar solvent (ethanol) but also water and heat. The as-prepared CsPbBr3@Cs4PbBr6/SiO2 NCs serve as green emitters in efficient white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with a high color rendering index (CRI) of 91 and a high power efficiency 59.87 lm W−1. Furthermore, the use of these WLEDs in visible light communication (VLC) results in a maximum rate of 44.53 Mbps, suggesting the great potential of the reported methods and materials for solid-state illumination and VLC.

Abstract:Quantum-confined CsPbBr3 nanoplatelets (NPLs) are extremely promising for use in low-cost blue light-emitting diodes, but their tendency to coalesce in both solution and film form, particularly under operating device conditions with injected charge-carriers, is hindering their adoption. We show that employing a short hexyl-phosphonate ligand (C6H15O3P) in a heat-up colloidal approach for pure, blue-emitting quantum-confined CsPbBr3 NPLs significantly suppresses these coalescence phenomena compared to particles capped with the typical oleyammonium ligands. The phosphonate-passivated NPL thin films exhibit photoluminescence quantum yields of ∼40% at 450 nm with exceptional ambient and thermal stability. The color purity is preserved even under continuous photoexcitation of carriers equivalent to LED current densities of ∼3.5 A/cm2. 13C, 133Cs, and 31P solid-state MAS NMR reveal the presence of phosphonate on the surface. Density functional theory calculations suggest that the enhanced stability is due to the stronger binding affinity of the phosphonate ligand compared to the ammonium ligand.
