Abstract:Objectives: To observe the clinical effectiveness and safety of Prof.WANG Qi's experiences(Tuomin Zhiti Decoction)in treating allergic rhinitis.Methods: This study was a case series study.We applied the diagnosis standard distributed in Lan Zhou Congress 2004 by Branch of Hals,Nasen and Ohrenheilkunde,Chinese Medical Association(CMA) for diagnosis and effectiveness evaluation.Results: This study totally included 52 cases,after taking Tuomin Zhiti Decoction for 4 weeks,6 weeks,8 weeks,the obvious effective rate were 57.69%,59.45% and 63.33%,the effective rate were 88.46%,89.18% and 90.00%.3 patients had stomachache,but after reducing the quantity of Small Centipeda Herb,their stomachache had disappeared.Conclusion: Prof.WANG Qi's experiences(Tuomin Zhiti Decoction) in treating allergic rhinitis is effective.
[Treatment of otorhinolaryngologic diseases of deficient heat type with Professor XIE Qiang's Tihu Guanding needling method]

Abstract:Professor XIE Qiang's Tihu Guanding needling method, a kind of acupuncture method which takes acupoints of the Conception Vessel as the primary and acupoints of the Governor Vessel as the secondary. Acupoints Lianquan (CV 23), Tiantu (CV 22), Qihai (CV 6), Zhongwan (CV 12), Baihui (GV 20) and Dazhui (GV 14) are adopted as the basic ones. Other points can be added according to various symptoms, for instance, Yingxiang (LI 20) and Yintang (GV 29) for rhinopathy, Tinggong (SI 19) and Yifeng (TE 17) for otopathy, Yan'an (Professor XIE's experience) and Shanglianquan (EX-HN 21) for pharyngopathy and Kaiyin 1 (Professor XIE's experience) and Kaiyin 2 (Professor XIE's experience) for laryngopathy. During the needle retention, rotation manipulation should be done every 5 min at Lianquan (CV 23). And the patient should be told to put the tip of one's tongue at the the palate as well as to do deep breathing to communicate the Conception Vessel and the Governor Vessel. Moxibustion is adopted at Yongquan (KI 1) to induce the up floating fire to mingmen (where the primary yang is stored). The therapeutic effect on treatment of persistent otorhinolaryngologic diseases with the above mentioned method is approve to be good.

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the curative effect of acupuncture in treating chronic laryngitis.Methods: Forty cases of chronic laryngitis(13 patients with chronic simple laryngitis,5 with hypertropic laryngitis,15 with vocal cord nodules and 7 with vocal cord polyps) were treated by acupuncture in Renying,Lieque and Zhaohai of two sides.Laryngoscopic and Acoustic examinations were performed before and after treatment in all patients to evaluate the effects of the treatment.Results: Of the original 40 patients,8 cases were cured and had normal glottal images and acoustic characters,and 25 cases were improved.The efficacy rate was 82.5%.Conclusion: Acupuncture is suitable for chronic laryngitis,especially for simple laryngitis and vocal nodules.

Abstract:Focusing on the original text record in Huangdi Neijing (Inner Canon of Yellow Emperor), the relevant theories of "Tianyou (TE 16) and five regions" are explored, e.g. acupoint names, meridians and acupoint features, and the clinical application of these acupoints has been analyzed. It is discovered that "Tianyou (TE 16) and five regions" are mainly used in treatment of the disorders in the nervous system, five sensory organs and motor system. Besides, in terms of the relevant theories, "Tianyou (TE 16) and five regions" has been compared with "root and knot" and "twelve divergent meridians". It is found that "Tianyou (TE 16) and five regions" communicates the externally-internally related meridians and is applicable in treatment of the disorders with both exterior and interior involved. It is the essential acupoint composition of the human body.
The Idea and Application of Tuina in the Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19

Abstract:While traditional Chinese medicine has displayed a positive and effective role in saving lives of COVID-19 patients, Tuina, which is an important component in Chinese medicine, has also shown its merits in enhancing the immune function and relieving symptoms in COVID-19 patients. This article elaborates the long history of Tuina in treating and preventing epidemic diseases and its effect in improving the immune function. It also introduces some special Tuina methods, for instance, sputum drainage by the back-patting method to enable the discharge of sputum; slant-scrubbing method applied on the hypochondriac regions to bring the effect of soothing the liver to regulate qi, which may also relieve anxiety of patients with COVID-19; and spine-pinching method to enhance human resistance to diseases, which is more suitable for the elderly and for children with mild or common types of COVID-19 and can also be used for health care and disease prevention among the general population. Tuina methods for children using the common children's specific Tuina points and manipulations to improve children's body constitution are also mentioned in the article. Self-acupoint Tuina for health care, including acupoints for prevention purposes, acupoints for early clinical stage (mild stage) and recovery stage, as well as acupoints for children health care and specific operations, is also illustrated in the article. Moreover, basic exercises for health care, such as eight-section brocade, Shaolin internal exercises, six-character formula, and change of tendons, are also presented. In the final analysis, this article is aimed at some ideas and feasible applications of Tuina therapy in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, in the hope to provide some worthy experience and introduce methods in preventing and fighting against COVID-19 to people all over the world.

Abstract:Objective: To establish a standardized framework encompassing the precise locations, manipulations, functions and indications of specific acupoints in the field of paediatric Tuina. Methods: The development of consensus involved three distinct stages. Initially, a list of paediatric Tuina specific acupoints was compiled based on an extensive literature review, which was subsequently supplemented through expert interviews. In the second stage, the Delphi method was employed to assess the significance of acupoint locations, manipulations, functions, and indications. In situations where the questionnaire survey failed to yield agreement or when the experts held reservations, the nominal group approach was utilized during the expert consensus meeting. The final version of the technical standardized material was ultimately determined during an expert consensus conference. After undergoing external peer review and evaluation, the completed draft was prepared for public dissemination RESULTS: The comprehensive list identified a total of 66 specific acupoints. The location and manipulation questionnaire consisted of 156 items based on the literature database, while the function and indication questionnaire contained 116 items. Two rounds of Delphi surveys were conducted for the location and manipulation category, and another two rounds of Delphi surveys were conducted for the function and indication category. During the experts consensus meeting The panel of experts conducted in-depth discussions on 61 questions, resulting in the formulation of technical guidelines for the locations, manipulations, functions, and indications of 64 paediatric Tuina acupoints. Subsequently, the research team compiled and edited the draft of the technical guidelines for acupoints of paediatric Tuina, which was finalized after external review and feedback. Conclusion: This study successfully established the recognized technical standards for practitioners of paediatric Tuina, thereby standardizing clinical practices and providing a foundation setting the framework for future research. The guidelines offer theoretical insights and recommendations for conducting clinical studies comparing different acupoint sites, as well as modifying or enhancing treatment regimens.

Abstract:Although research shows that acceptance, trust, and risk perception are often related, little is known about the underlying patterns of causality among the three constructs. In the context of a waterborne disease outbreak, we explored via zero-order/partial correlation analysis whether acceptance predicts both trust and risk perception (associationist model), or whether trust influences risk perception and acceptance (causal chain model). The results supported the causal chain model suggesting a causal role for trust. A subsequent path analysis confirmed that the effect of trust on acceptance is fully mediated by risk perception. It also revealed that trust is positively predicted by prior institutional trust and communication with the public. Implications of the findings for response strategies to contamination events are discussed.

Abstract:Abstract Background: Cervicogenic headache is a secondary headache characterized by unilateral headache, symptoms, and signs of neck involvement. It is often worsened by neck movement, sustained awkward head position, or external pressure over the upper cervical or occipital region on the symptomatic side. In this systematic review, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of massage therapy for the treatment of cervicogenic headache. Methods: We searched the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Wanfang Database, China Doctoral Dissertations Full-Text Database, China Master's Theses Full-Text Database, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, and Embase. We will select all eligible studies published on or before April 1, 2021. We will use Review Manager 5.4, provided by the Cochrane Collaborative Network for statistical analysis. We then assessed the quality and risk of the included studies and observed the outcome measures. Results: This meta-analysis further confirmed the benefits of tuina in the treatment of cervicogenic headache. Conclusion: The purpose of this meta-analysis was to explore the effect of tuina on patients with cervicogenic headache and to provide more options for clinicians and patients to treat cervicogenic headache. Ethics and dissemination: This systematic review will evaluate the efficacy and safety of tuina in the treatment of cervicogenic headache. Since all the data included were published, the systematic review did not require ethical approval. Registration number: INPLASY202150053.
The Analysis of Manipulation and Acupoint Selection Law of Domestic Tuina Therapy for the Treatment of Simple Depression Based on Data Mining Technology

Abstract:Objective: To use data mining technology to analyze the manipulation, parts, meridians and acupuncture points of Tuina in the treatment of depression, in order to play a certain enlightenment role in clinical and scientific research. Methods: The relevant literature on Tuina for depression published between 2013.2~2023.2 was searched by computer on CNKI, Wanfang Data and VIP, and a database was established after screening, and Excel 2021, IBM SPSS Modeler and IBM SPSS Statistics were used to descriptively analyze, manipulation association law analysis and manipulation cluster analysis of Tuina prescription. Results: A total of 15 articles were included, involving 15 techniques, 10 meri-dians and 38 acupoints (The total number of back Shu points is counted as one acupoint). Among them, there are four common techniques: pressing, kneading, pushing and grasping; The meridians involved are mainly bladder meridian, supervision meridian, bile meridian, followed by liver meridian; The Tuina manipulation site is mainly the back, followed by the head and abdomen; In the selection of acupoints, Beishu point is the main point, followed by Baihui, among which the most used Beishu points are Xinshu, Shenshu and Ganshu; Manipulative correlation network prompt, pressing, kneading, pushing and grasping are closely related; Cluster analysis shows that Tuina techniques can be divided into two main categories. Conclusion: Tuina therapy for the treatment of depression, with “Pressing and Kneading” as the core manipulate, coupled with tapping and vibration techniques, synergistic with the effects of meridians and acupoints, plays the role of “promoting qi and blood circulation, soothing meridians and unblocking collaterals, calming the heart and calming the mind”.

Abstract:This paper systematically studies relevant literatures at home and abroad in recent years. China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI) was used to collect the literatures for acute pharyngitis treated with traditional Chinese medicine from January 1, 2006, to December 31, 2016, and the bibliometric method was employed for statistical analysis. A total of 493 papers were preliminarily selected. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, 182 eligible articles were selected. According to the evaluation and analysis of the literatures, the Guidelines for Clinical Research of New Drugs is currently used as the common standards for the diagnosis and treatment of acute pharyngitis; Chinese patent medicines are the main traditional Chinese medicine for treating this disease; Decoctions for treatment of this disease include Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, Scutellariae Radix, Platycodonis Radix, Forsythiae Fructus, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Scrophdlariae Radix, Isatidis Radix, and Ophiopogonis Radix; The bloodletting puncture is the common external therapy. Traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine have their own characteristics in the treatment of this disease. Western medicine for the treatment of acute pharyngitis are mainly antiviral, antibiotic and glucocorticoid drugs, whose disadvantages are toxicity, side effects, drug resistance and double infections. Traditional Chinese medicine doctors have rich experiences in the treatment of the disease, which is characterized by treatment determination based on syndrome differentiation, safe and reliable medication, significant curative effect, low drug resistance, and wide varieties of traditional Chinese medicine forms, convenient portability and taking, low price, and low toxic and side effects. Abstract:New electrical network concepts are emerging in aeronautics due to high voltage direct current networks (HVDC). These networks give some specific possibilities concerning the connections between the bus bars and the equipments. We propose here a new component for this kind of purpose that helps in solving stability problems at the network level and in supplying powerful consumers. This component, the MAPFC - mixed function for actuation & power flow control - is an AC machine connected between two inverters. The machine can be used in a traditional way - as a motor or as a generator - but also to transfer power from one DC bus to the other. We explain the principles of the MAPFC, especially the theory in the Park's domain, and some simulation results are given. We also define capabilities and limitations of the equipment.

Abstract:Ethnopharmacological relevance: Trollius chinensis Bunge has a long history of use in China as traditional Chinese medicine and functional tea for the treatment of respiratory infections, such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis and bronchitis. Pharyngitis can impact the entire throat and adjacent lymphoid tissues, and may lead to significant systemic complications. However, the active components and mechanism of Trollius chinensis Bunge for treating acute pharyngitis remains unclear. Aim of the study: Trollius chinensis Bunge is recognized in China both as a medicinal herb and a functional tea. Research into its properties aimed to establish its effectiveness against pharyngitis and to pinpoint the active components and mechanism. Materials and methods: A 70% ethanol extract from the herb was prepared, which was refined using chromatography through a column containing D101 macroporous resin and varying ethanol solutions. The efficacy of the initial and refined extracts was tested using a rat model of ammonia-induced acute pharyngitis. Pathological examination, HE staining and ELISA were applied to screen activity fraction. The compounds were isolated by silica gel, sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC chromatography from active fraction. All of the isolated compounds were assessed for anti-inflammatory activity by acting on LPS-induced RAW 264.7 macrophage cells in vitro. Cytotoxicity of compounds was detected by CCK-8 assay. The Griess reaction was applied to evaluate the inhibitory effects of isolated compounds on NO production in RAW 264.7 cells induced by LPS. TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β and PGE2 levels in macrophage supernatant were detected by ELISA. Molecular docking and western blot analysis were applied to study the anti-inflammatory mechanism of active compound. Results: The fraction extracted with 30% ethanol proved particularly effective, significantly reducing pharyngitis symptoms. This was evidenced by decreased levels of cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β and PGE2) and visible improvements in the pharyngeal tissue histology. In pursuit of pharyngitis treatments, 23 phenolic acids and 13 flavonoids were isolated from the 30% ethanol fraction and identified using spectral analysis. Of these, three were newly discovered compounds and eight were first-time isolates from the Trollius genus. These compounds were further investigated for their ability to suppress nitric oxide production in RAW 264.7 cells triggered by lipopolysaccharide. Compounds 3, 19, and 26 exhibited strong anti-inflammatory properties. HPLC analysis of the 30% ethanol fraction revealed that orientin was the predominant component, accounting for 44.4% of this fraction. Western blot analysis demonstrated that orientin reduced the expression levels of the protein p-p65 relative to p65, p-IκBα relative to IκBα and iNOS, indicating an anti-inflammatory effect potentially through the modulation of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Conclusion: The finding of this study provided strong support for the use of T. chinensis as a potential functional food for treating pharyngitis.
Bibliometric Analysis of Research Trends on Tuina Manipulation for Neck Pain Treatment Over the Past 10 Years

However, there has been no bibliometric analysis of the global application and emerging trends of tuina performed for NP. Therefore, this study aimed to provide an overview of the current state and future trends in the field. Articles about tuina for NP, published from January 1, 2013, to January 1, 2023, were searched in the Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace (6.1.R6) and VOSviewer (1.6.18) software were used to analyze annual trends in literature posts, countries, institutions, authors, cited references, and knowledge graphs of keyword co-occurrence, clustering, and burst using standard bibliometric indicators. The final analysis comprised 505 valid documents. The results demonstrate that the number of articles in the field of tuina therapy for NP has gradually increased over the years, showing the most active countries, institutions, journals, and authors. There were 323 keywords in the field, 322 research authors, and 292 research institutions, with the USA having the most publications (n = 140). The most published institution is Vrije University Amsterdam, and the most published journal is the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Peter R Blanpied is the most influential and most-cited author. Interventions (dry needling, massage therapy, and muscle energy techniques), common treatment sites for NP (upper trapezius), and complications (cervicogenic headache) are the top three frontiers mentioned in the field of tuina research for NP. The bibliometric study showed the current status and trends in clinical research on treating patients with NP using tuina, which may help researchers identify topics of interest and scope for future research in this field. Neck pain (NP) is often the main symptom in the early stages of all types of cervical spondylosis because it is the first and most common symptom of neck disorders. 1 It is the fourth most common cause of disability in the United States 2 and has become one of the most expensive healthcare conditions worldwide. 3 Moreover, the age at which patients experience NP is decreasing 4,5 because of the widespread use of information technology in society, the drastic increase in study and work stress, and the concurrent heavy use of electronic devices such as mobile phones and computers. 6 To improve the quality of life of patients with NP, researchers are actively exploring new treatment options. Abstract:Through study of Internal Classic and Yijing (The Book of Changes) combined with clinical experiences, the author analyzes characteristics of indications treated by eight methods in Jinzhen Fu ,manipulations as well as clinical applications of infusing and retaining qi, and believes that indications treated by eight methods includ coldness, heat, deficiency, excess and illness of qi, blood, body liquid(viscera), as well as meridians, collaterals, blood vessels. And eight methods have respective speciality according to their corresponding indications. The manipulations of eight methods, expecially infusing and retaining qi, are complete. Therefore, only tracing to the source in understanding and recognition of manipulations and keeping with the indications could show the original meaning of Jinzhen Fu, and then got perfect clinical therapeutic effect of eliminating diseases as soon as exertion of the needle.

Abstract:Peripherally-induced neuropathic pain (pNP) is a kind of NP that is common, frequent, and difficult to treat. Tuina, also known as massage and manual therapy, has been used to treat pain in China for thousands of years. It has been clinically proven to be effective in the treatment of pNP caused by cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, etc. However, its analgesic mechanism is still not clear and has been the focus of research. In this review, we summarize the existing research progress, so as to provide guidance for clinical and basic studies. The analgesic mechanism of tuina is mainly manifested in suppressing peripheral inflammation by regulating the TLR4 pathway and miRNA, modulating ion channels (such as P2X3 and piezo), inhibiting the activation of glial cells, and adjusting the brain functional alterations. Overall, tuina has an analgesic effect by acting on different levels of targets, and it is an effective therapy for the treatment of pNP. It is necessary to continue to study the mechanism of tuina analgesia.

Abstract:The paper introduces the clinical experience of professor SUN Shentian in treatment of qiaobi (orifice obstruction) with acupuncture. In pathogenesis, qiaobi refers to the obstruction of qi movement and abnormal ascending and descending of qi. "Obstruction of zangfu orifices" is the biao (symptoms), while "obstruction of brain orifice" is ben (root cause) of diseases. In the principle of treatment, bian and ben should be considered simultaneously, and it is proposed to regulating the spirit and unblocking the orifices in treatment. Baihui (GV 20) and the cognitive emotional area on the head are selected for regulating the spirit and opening the brain orifice, focusing on the root cause of diseases. Based on the connection between the symptoms and the cerebral cortical functions, the different points on the head are used, the Siguan points (Hegu [LI 4] and Taichong [LR 3]) and yuan-source points combined, and the acupoint prescription is composed according to the interior-exterior relationship of meridians. With repetitive transcranial acupuncture stimulation at the points on the head, the therapeutic effect is strengthened. It provides a novel approach to treatment of diseases related to qiaobi.

Firstly, we would like to commend the authors for their comprehensive analysis of the research trends in using Tuina therapy for treating neck pain. Neck pain is a common disabling factor in musculoskeletal disorders, posing challenges for multiple disciplines in terms of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. The mounting high-quality evidence derived from evidence-based medicine indicates that Tuina therapy could serve as a beneficial complementary alternative treatment for neck pain. 2 However, it appears that the author's research methodology may be biased, resulting in unreal and surprising results. First, they should use terms such as "Tuina", "Chinese massage", or "Chinese manipulation" instead of using the generic terms "massage" or "manipulation". This is because there is no standardized terminology specifically for Tuina, and searching with the generic terms can easily lead to confusion with modern physical therapy, resulting in a significantly larger number of publications unrelated to Tuina. For example, in the results section, it is observed that the United States, Spain, Australia, and institutions from these countries are identified as having the highest central role in researching Tuina for neck pain. However, it is widely known that these institutions have conducted very little research related to Tuina. The visualization analysis of keyword further confirms this bias since terms like Mobilization, Dry Needling, Muscle Energy Technique are all modern physical rehabilitation techniques unrelated to Tuina. We suggest that the authors refer to another recent bibliometric research on Tuina published in this journal, 3 which demonstrates how to accurately present research trends using simple search strategies and strict inclusion criteria. Second, authors should select appropriate databases for their study. For instance, including core papers from China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Data would be a more suitable approach, which is commonly done in meta-analyses. Although this may significantly increase workload for authors, relying solely on English databases cannot comprehensively represent research trends in Tuina—especially when conducting bibliometric analyses. In order to properly conduct research, it is crucial to accurately define what "Tuina" entails. The authors mentioned in the article that "Tuina is one kind of manual therapy based on the principles of Chinese medicine". In fact, Tuina therapy is a non-invasive treatment that replaces acupuncture needles with fingers, palms, elbows, or other body parts to stimulate specific areas along meridians on the body surface. It relies heavily on experience and its characteristics and effectiveness are influenced by various variables such as frequency, duration, and intensity. 4 Although it is an important component of traditional Chinese physical therapy and is renowned alongside acupuncture in China, Tuina therapy has not been fully standardized or widely recognized internationally. Its practice depends on the experience and skills of practitioners; different Tuina therapists may employ varying techniques and methods. 5 Therefore, establishing a unified set of operating standards proves extremely challenging as it necessitates considering factors like practitioner experience, patient conditions, and physical states. It is precisely because personalized Tuina treatment plans tailored to individual patients exist that this therapeutic approach can achieve optimal effectiveness.
