Abstract:The advent of recombinant DNA technology and computational designing has fueled the emergence of proteins and peptides as a new class of modern therapeutics such as vaccines, antigens, antibodies and hormones. Demand for such therapeutics has increased recently due to their distinct pharmacodynamic characteristics of specificity of action and high potency. However, their potential clinical applications are often hindered by involvement of factors which impact their therapeutic potential negatively. Large size, low permeability, conformational fragility, immunogenicity, metabolic degradation and short half-life results in poor bioavailability and inferior efficacy. These challenges have encouraged researchers to devise strategies for effective delivery of proteins and peptides. Recent advances made in nanotechnology are being sought to overcome aforesaid problems and to offer advantages such as higher drug loading, improved stability, sustained release, amenability for non-parenteral administration and targeting through surface modifications. This review focuses on elaborating the role of nanotechnology based formulations and associated challenges in protein and peptide delivery, their clinical outlook and future perspective.
Recurrent Supramolecular Patterns in a Series of Salts of Heterocyclic Polyamines and Heterocyclic Dicarboxylic Acids: Synthesis, Single-Crystal X-ray Structure, Hirshfeld Surface Analysis, Energy Framework, and Quantum Chemical Calculations

Abstract:A series of novel salts based on aromatic polyamines and 2,3-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid, such as C10H12N6O5 (1), C10H9ClN6O4 (2), C11H10N8O4 (3), and C14H17N16O5.5 (4) or 3,4-thiophenedicarboxylic acid, such as C10H10N4O4S (5), C10H9ClN4O4S (6), and C10H10N4O4S2 (7), were synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All compounds crystallize in a monoclinic space group. The structure was subjected to complex Hirshfeld surface analysis, molecular electrostatic potential, enrichment ratio, and energy framework calculations. The influence of different cations on the packing of 3-carboxypyrazine-2-carboxylate and 4-carboxythiophene-3-carboxylate anions in the crystal lattice was studied. O...H/H...O interactions are the main contributor in all crystals. In addition, in a series of pyrazine-containing structures, N(C)...H/H...N(C) interactions have relevance, while in a series of thiophene-based compounds, C...H/H...C and S...H(O)/H(O)...S. In addition, Cl-based interactions are observed in compound 2. According to the enrichment ratio calculations, O...H/H...O and C...C are the most preferable interactions in all structures. The energy frameworks are dominated by the dispersive contribution, only in compound 3 is the electrostatic term dominant. The analyzed structures reveal intra- and intermolecular recurrent supramolecular synthons. In both series of crystals, the robust H-bonded centrosymmetric dimer R22(8) as homo- or as heterosynthon (in compounds 2, 3, 6, and 7) and the intramolecular synthon S(7) generated by O-H...O interactions (in compounds 2, 6, and 7) are present. The supramolecular patterns formed by π...π (C...C) and C-O(Cl,S)...C are also noticeable. Notably, a dual synthon linking the supramolecular chain via π...π interactions and the homosynthon R22(8) via N-H...N interactions is visible in both series of new salts. A library of H-bonding motifs at diverse levels of supramolecular architecture is provided. We extended the analysis of intramolecular H-bonding motifs to similar structures deposited in the Cambridge Structural Database. Another important feature is the existence of an intramolecular O...H...O bridge between two neighboring carboxylic groups as substituents in anions in compounds 3 and 5. In this context, we performed quantum theory of atoms-in-molecule calculations to reveal more details.

Abstract:Crystal engineering can be described as the understanding of intermolecular interactions in the context of crystal packing and the utilization of such understanding to design new solids with desired physical and chemical properties. Free-energy differences between supramolecular isomers are generally small and minor changes in the crystallization conditions may result in the occurrence of new isomers. The study of supramolecular isomerism will help us to understand the mechanism of crystallization, a very central concept of crystal engineering. Two supramolecular isomers of dichloridobis(1,10-phenanthroline-κ(2)N,N')cobalt(II), [CoCl2(C12H8N2)2], i.e. (IA) (orthorhombic) and (IB) (monoclinic), and two supramolecular isomers of dichloridobis(1,10-phenanthroline-κ(2)N,N')cobalt(II) N,N-dimethylformamide monosolvate, [CoCl2(C12H8N2)2]·C3H7NO, i.e. (IIA) (orthorhombic) and (IIB) (monoclinic), were synthesized in dimethylformamide (DMF) and structurally characterized. Of these, (IA) and (IIA) have been prepared and structurally characterized previously [Li et al. (2007). Acta Cryst. E63, m1880-m1880; Cai et al. (2008). Acta Cryst. E64, m1328-m1329]. We found that the heating rate is a key factor for the crystallization of (IA) or (IB), while the temperature difference is responsible for the crystallization of (IIA) or (IIB). Based on the crystallization conditions, isomerization behaviour, the KPI (Kitajgorodskij packing index) values and the density data, (IB) and (IIA) are assigned as the thermodynamic and stable kinetic isomers, respectively, while (IA) and (IIB) are assigned as the metastable kinetic products. The 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands interact with each other through offset face-to-face (OFF) π-π stacking in (IB) and (IIB), but by edge-to-face (EF) C-H...π interactions in (IA) and (IIA). Meanwhile, the DMF molecules in (IIB) connect to neighbouring [CoCl2(phen)2] units through two C-H...Cl hydrogen bonds, whereas there are no obvious interactions between DMF molecules and [CoCl2(phen)2] units in (IIA). Since OFF π-π stacking is generally stronger than EF C-H...π interactions for transition-metal complexes with nitrogen-containing aromatic ligands, (IIA) is among the uncommon examples that are stable and densely packed but that do not following Etter's intermolecular interaction hierarchy.
Crystal structures of fourteen halochalcogenylphos-pho-nium tetra-halogenidoaurates(III)

Abstract:The structures of fourteen halochalcogenyl-phospho-nium tetra-halogen-ido-aurates(III), phosphane chalcogenide derivatives with general formula [R 1 3- nR 2 nPEX][AuX 4] (R 1 = t-butyl; R 2 = isopropyl; n = 0 to 3; E = S or Se; X = Cl or Br) are presented. The eight possible chlorido derivatives are: 17 a, n = 3, E = S; 18 a, n = 2, E = S; 19 a, n = 1, E = S; 20 a, n = 0, E = S; 21 a, n = 3, E = Se; 22 a, n = 2, E = Se; 23 a, n = 1, E = Se; and 24 a, n = 0, E = Se, and the corresponding bromido derivatives are 17 b-24 b in the same order. Structures were obtained for all compounds except for the tri-t-butyl derivatives 24 a and 24 b. Isotypy is observed for 18 a/18 b/22 a/22 b, 19 a/23 a, 17 b/21 b and 19 b/23 b. In eleven of the compounds, X⋯X contacts (mostly very short) are observed between the cation and anion, whereby the E-X⋯X groups are approximately linear and the X⋯X-Au angles approximately 90°. The exceptions are 17 a, 19 a and 23 a, which instead display short E⋯X contacts. Bond lengths in the cations correspond to single bonds P-E and E-X. For each group with constant E and X, the P-E-X bond-angle values increase monotonically with the steric bulk of the alkyl groups. The packing is analysed in terms of E⋯X, X⋯X (some between anions alone), H⋯X and H⋯Au contacts. Even for isotypic compounds, some significant differences can be discerned.
Syntheses, Structures of Four New Complexes Constructed by Flexible Pyridine Ligand and the Relationship Between Conformations and Structures

Abstract:Four new complexes [Co(pcaede)(2)Cl-2 2CH(3) CN H2O](n) (1), [Co pcaede)(2)Cl-2 center dot H2O](n) (2), [Hg(pcaede)I-2](n) (3) and [Hg(pcaede)Br-2](n) (4) were prepared with a flexible ligand 3-pyridinecarboxylic acid 1,2-ethanediyl ester(pcaede) and Co/Hg salts. They were characterized by elemental analysis, 1R and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Complexes 1 and 2 both have an one-dimensional (1D) chain sturcture with channels. Complex 3 processes a 1D meso-helix sturcture, and complex 4 exhibits a 1D infinite zig-zag chain structrue. The results demonstrated that the solvent molecules filled in channels and counteranions have a significant impact on the assembly of the complexes. Moreover, theoretical calculations were carried about the conformation of the ligand in four complexes.
Chiral Metal-dithiocarbamate Complexes Holding Pendant Phenolic Groups: Synthesis, Crystallographic, Photophysical and In-silico Study

Abstract:We report a novel series of chiral monometallic dithiocarbamate complexes with pendant phenolic groups, formulated as [M{κ2S^S-S2CN(CH2PhOH)(CH(S-CH3)(NaPh)}2] (M= Ni(II) S,S-1, Cu(II) S,S-2, Zn(II) S,S-3) and [M{κ2S^S-S2CN(CH2PhOH)(CH(R-CH3)(NaPh)}2] (M = Ni(II) R,R-4, Cu(II) R,R-5, Zn(II) R,R-6). These compounds were synthesized through a process involving chiral amino precursors S-HL1, R-HL2, CS2 and corresponding metal acetates. All the compounds have been characterized by microanalysis and standard spectroscopic methods such as 1H and 13C{1H}NMR, IR, UV-visible absorption and EPR spectroscopy. The spectral data suggest a square planar coordination geometry around the nickel(II) and copper(II) centers and a tetrahedral coordination geometry around the zinc(II) which is corroborated by density functional theory calculations. The unprecedented molecular structures of imine precursors S-I, R-I and Ni(II)-dithiocarbamate complex S,S-1 were elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and their crystal packing patterns were studied. Evidently, the change in chirality could not induce changes in the donor-acceptor sites of S-I and R-I and their molecules are primarily stabilized by O-H...N and C-H...π interactions, forming a 2D sheet-like structure in ab-plane. Notably, chiral S,S-1 complex crystallized in a monomeric achiral space group (triclinic, P1) in which two dithiocarbamate ligands are bonded to the nickel(II) ion in a S^S chelating mode forming a square planar geometry around the metal center. The photophysical properties of all the compounds have been investigated with the help of UV-visible absorption, emission, and thermogravimetric study. Compounds exhibited intense blue photoluminescence with maximum emissions in the 330-336 nm region upon excitation in the UV region. A molecular docking study was performed to validate the potentials of these compounds in protein-ligand interactions against B-DNA Dodecamer (PDB Id: 1BNA) and cyclins (PDB Id: 1w98) which are indeed essential proteins of the cell cycle, and their proper functioning is necessary for the human health.

Abstract:The coupling of cis-[PdCl2(CNXyl)2] (Xyl = 2,6-Me2C6H3) with 4-phenylthiazol-2-amine in molar ratio 2:3 at RT in CH2Cl2 leads to binuclear (diaminocarbene)PdII complex 3c. The complex was characterized by HRESI+-MS, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and its structure was elucidated by single-crystal XRD. Inspection of the XRD data for 3c and for three relevant earlier obtained thiazole/thiadiazole derived binuclear diaminocarbene complexes (3a EYOVIZ; 3b: EYOWAS; 3d: EYOVOF) suggests that the structures of all these species exhibit intra-/intermolecular bifurcated chalcogen bonding (BCB). The obtained data indicate the presence of intramolecular S•••Cl chalcogen bonds in all of the structures, whereas varying of substituent in the 4th and 5th positions of the thiazaheterocyclic fragment leads to changes of the intermolecular chalcogen bonding type, viz. S•••π in 3a,b, S•••S in 3c, and S•••O in 3d. At the same time, the change of heterocyclic system (from 1,3-thiazole to 1,3,4-thiadiazole) does not affect the pattern of non-covalent interactions. Presence of such intermolecular chalcogen bonding leads to the formation of one-dimensional (1D) polymeric chains (for 3a,b), dimeric associates (for 3c), or the fixation of an acetone molecule in the hollow between two diaminocarbene complexes (for 3d) in the solid state. The Hirshfeld surface analysis for the studied X-ray structures estimated the contributions of intermolecular chalcogen bonds in crystal packing of 3a–d: S•••π (3a: 2.4%; 3b: 2.4%), S•••S (3c: less 1%), S•••O (3d: less 1%). The additionally performed DFT calculations, followed by the topological analysis of the electron density distribution within the framework of Bader’s theory (AIM method), confirm the presence of intra-/intermolecular BCB S•••Cl/S•••S in dimer of 3c taken as a model system (solid state geometry). The AIM analysis demonstrates the presence of appropriate bond critical points for these interactions and defines their strength from 0.9 to 2.8 kcal/mol indicating their attractive nature.

Abstract:Para- tert -butylthiacalix[4]arenimines with mono- and distally substituted functional groups have been examined in terms of their structure and spectra. The structure and H-bonds of these compounds can be studied by comparing their vibrational and NMR spectra. The spectra of several conformations of the molecules TCA1-4 were calculated. For the molecules TCA3 and TCA4 , the most stable conformation is a distorted cone (DC2) with the same imine or phthalimide group orientation, consequently. The least stable conformation is pinched cone (PC). The conformations of molecules TCA2 , TCA3 , and TCA4 are DC1 and DC2, respectively. H-bonds in the molecules TCA1-4 alter their supramolecular properties. Ionization energy and dipole moment decrease as monosubstituted thiacalixarene ( TCA1 ) transforms into disubstituted TCA2 . In this instance, there is an increase in softness, electrophilicity, chemical potential, and electron affinity. An increase in the number of methylene groups in disubstituted thiacalixarenes from TCA4 to TCA2 is accompanied by an increase in ionization energy, electron affinity, and electrophilicity.

Abstract:A series of phenylalkylamino-nicotinic acids (1–4) were synthesized by varying the length of the linker between the pyridine and benzene rings, and their polymorphism was investigated. Under the same crystallization conditions, one crystal form was found for compounds 1 and 2, three forms were obtained for compound 3, and two forms were harvested for compound 4. A detailed conformational analysis was performed, and the polymorphism of 3 and 4 was found to be caused by the anti and/or gauche conformation of specific sigma bonds within them. However, there appears to be no correlation between the number of polymorphs and sigma bonds, and the rotation of which sigma bond(s) is responsible for the polymorphism could not be predicted. Phase behavior studies by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed a phase transition from 4-I with a small asymmetric unit (Z′ = 1) to 4-II with a larger asymmetric unit (Z′ = 2). Computational studies including Hirshfeld surface analysis and independent gradient model (IGM) analyses were performed to highlight the most significant intermolecular interactions in the crystals.

Abstract:Reactions of the complexes cis -[PtCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ], [PtCl 2 (dppf)] {dppf = Fe(C 5 H 4 PPh 2 ) 2 }, [PdCl 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ], [PdCl 2 (dppe)] (dppe = Ph 2 PCH 2 CH 2 PPh 2 ) and [NiCl 2 (dppe)] with thiosalicylanilide (HSC 6 H 4 CONHPh, H 2 - 1a ) and its substituted derivatives H 2 - 1b to H 2 - 1d (where H 2 - 1b = p -Cl-HSC 6 H 4 CONHPh, H 2 - 1c = p -CH 3 -HSC 6 H 4 CONHPh, and H 2 - 1d = m -OCH 3 -HSC 6 H 4 CONHPh) gave a series of square-planar MS 2 P 2 -type complexes. The complexes were characterised by ESI MS, 1 H and 31 P{ 1 H} NMR, FTIR, and microelemental analyses, and in some cases by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The predominant coordination mode is through bonding of deprotonated thiol group of two ligands. However, the tendency to form complexes with a single, chelating S,N - and S,O -donor ligand was observed by 31 P{ 1 H} NMR in some reactions. In addition, cis / trans isomerisation was observed in some complexes by 31 P{ 1 H} NMR and confirmed by X-ray structure determinations on trans -[Pt(H-1b) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ] and trans -[Pd(H-1b) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ]. A comparison of the energetics of the reaction systems involving [Pt(1b)(PPh 3 ) 2 ]/[Pt(H-1b) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ], [Pt(1d)(PPh 3 ) 2 ]/[Pt(H-1d) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ] and [Pd(1b)(dppe)]/[Pd(H-1b) 2 (dppe)] using Density Functional Theory (DFT) revealed that the MS 2 P 2 systems [Pt(H-1b) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ], [Pt(H-1d) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ] and [Pd(H-1b) 2 (dppe)] have lower Gibbs free energies than the S,N -chelate systems [Pt(1b)(PPh 3 ) 2 ], [Pt(1d)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] and [Pd(1b)(dppe)], and are thermodynamically favoured. Intermolecular interactions quantified and visualized on Hirshfeld surfaces for trans -[Pt(H-1b) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ], [Pt(H-1d) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 ].H 2 O, and [Pd(H-1a) 2 (dppe)] revealed the dominant contribution of H···H contacts to crystal packing.

Abstract:Reaction of 1,3-dicyanotetrafluorobenzene with trimethylsilyl phosphinimines proceeds through stepwise substitution on the fluoroaromatic to yield mono- and ultimately disubstituted derivatives of the form 4,6-(CN)2C6F2-1-A-3-B. Two molar equivalents of a bifunctional phosphinophosphoranimines, Me3SiNP(Ph)2CH2PPh2, result in a dual substitution giving 1 (A = B = (NP(Ph)2CH2PPh2)), whereas 1 equiv of the trimethylsilyl phosphinimine gives the monosubstituted derivative. Treatment of the monosubstituted derivative with a second 1 equiv of the same or a different phosphinimine gives doubly substituted derivatives which can have the same or different phosphorus substituents, e.g. 2, A = (NP(Ph)2CH2P(Ph)2), B = (NPPh3), and 3, A = (NP(Ph)2CH2PPh2), B = (NPPh2Me). Compounds 1, 4,6-(CN)2C6F2-1,3-bis(NP(Ph)2CH2PPh2), and 2, 4,6-(CN)2C6F2-1-(NP(Ph)2CH2PPh2)-3-(NPPh3), have been structurally characterized. In 1, the P(1)N(1) bond length is 1.581(3) Å, the P(3)N(2) bond length is 1.569(4) Å, the P(1)−N(1)−C(6) angle is 132.1(3)°, and the P(3)−N(2)−C(2) angle is 133.2(3)°. For 2, the P(2)N(1) bond length (in the Ph3PN unit) is 1.578(4) Å, the P(3)N(2) bond length in the Ph2PCH2Ph2PN unit) is 1.585(4) Å, the P(2)−N(1)−C(2) angle is 134.7(4)°, and the P(3)−N(2)−C(6) angle is 129.9(4)°. 2 reacted readily with [Rh(CO)2Cl]2 to form the mono metallic chelated Rh complex 4, 4,6-(CN)2C6F2-3-(NPPh3)-1-(NP(Ph)2CH2P(Ph)2Rh(CO)Cl). 1 reacts with both 1 equiv and 0.5 equiv of [Rh(CO)2Cl]2 to form respectively 4,6-(CN)2C6F2-1,3-bis(NP(Ph)2CH2P(Ph)2Rh(CO)Cl), 5, and 4,6-(CN)2C6F2-1,3-bis(NP(Ph)2CH2P(Ph)2)Rh(CO)Cl, 6. The half-metalated complex 6 can be converted to 5 with a second aliquot of the Rh precursor, and the dimetalated complex 5 can be converted to the half-metalated complex 6 by reaction of 5 with more ligand. The bis(phosphine) chelate structure of 6, the dimetalated complex, was deduced from the complex second-order 31P NMR spectrum solved by simulation. The two PIII are trans coordinated to the Rh center, and the two N are not coordinated. There is no PIII−PIII or PV−PV coupling, but each PIII is coupled to two magnetically inequivalent PV. Structural characterization of the dimetalated complex 5 shows a symmetrically substituted complex containing two Rh centers with a square planar geometry around each Rh(I) with the CO cis to the phosphine. Bond angles and lengths are typical for the Rh(I) square planar chelate complex structures. The P(1)−N(1) distance of 1.61(1) Å in the complex is normal for a coordinated iminophosphoranyl group. The directly bound Rh−PIII distance of 2.206(4) Å also lies within the range found in many Rh(I) phosphine complexes of this type.
Dimers and 2D Networks of Adamantane-Related Ternary Organosilicon Coinage Metal Sulfide Clusters

Abstract:Adamantane-type organotin sulfide clusters were recently shown to react with coinage metal phosphine complexes under replacement of an organic substituent by a metal-phosphine unit. An extension of such studies involving the silicon-based congener [(PhSi)4S6] (A) revealed that the cluster core will be partly disassembled and a {PhSi} moiety is replaced by a coinage metal phosphine complex to form [(Et3PAg)3(PhSi)3S6] (B) and [Na2(thf)2.33][(Me3PCu)(PhSi)3S6] (C). Herein, we present an extension of this work upon variation of the reactants and reaction conditions. Besides the isolation of crystalline precursor complexes [CuCl(PMe2Ph)3] (1) and [AgCl(PMe2Ph)2]2 (2), the study addresses reactions of A with AgCl and a phosphine ligand in CH2Cl2, upon which A is completely disassembled to form [(Ph3P)3Ag(μ-S)SiCl2Ph] (3). In another case a CH2 group, most likely stemming from CH2Cl2, was attached to the ligand, thus generating [{PhCl(S)SiSCH2P(Ph2)CH2CH2}2] (4). Upon using CuCl and 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (dppb) we isolated the phosphine-bridged analog of B, [{(dppbCu2)CuP(Ph2)(CH2CH2)(PhSi)3S6}2] (5). In order to receive the yet elusive silver homolog of C, we used PMe2Ph as a bulkier ligand. This way we generated a 2D coordination polymer of the desired composition, [Na2(thf)1.5][(Me2PhPAg)(PhSi)3S6] (6). UV-visible spectra of 6 indicated a bandgap of 3.89 eV, thus blue-shifted in regards to B and C.

Abstract:Protolysis of AlMe3 or AlEt3 with 2-diisopropylphosphinopyrrole (1) resulted in alane/bis(phosphine) pincer ligands contain-ing two flanking phosphines and a central Al-Me (2-Me), Al-Et (2-Et) unit. Reactions of 2-Me with [(COD)MI]2 (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene; M = Rh or Ir) in the presence of pyridine produced pincer complexes (3-Rh-I and 3-Ir-I) with M supported by the PAlP tridentate ligand, and pyridine, methyl, and iodide as monodentate ligands for Al or M. The analogous reaction of 2-Et with [(COD)MI]2 and pyridine resulted in the formation of the analogous compounds 3-Rh-I and 3-Ir-I with hydride in place of methyl. DFT calculations were used to analyze the thermodynamic preferences for the positioning of pyridine, methyl or hydride, and the halide (chloride or iodide) on M vs Al. Cobalt was included with Rh and Ir among M for the pur-poses of DFT calculations. Theoretical studies suggested that different isomers are preferred for the iodide complexes (M-I and Al-Py) than for the chloride ones (M-py and Al-Cl, previously reported for Rh and Ir). X-ray structural study of 3-Rh-I and analysis of the 1H NMR data of the Rh and Ir compounds in benzene corroborated these predictions.

Multidimensional Frameworks Assembled from Silver(I) Coordination Polymers Containing Flexible Bis(thioquinolyl) Ligands: Role of the Intra- and Intermolecular Aromatic Stacking Interactions

Abstract:The two flexible multidentate ligands 1,3-bis(8-thioquinolyl)propane (C3TQ) and 1,4-bis(8-thioquinolyl)butane (C4TQ) were reacted with AgX (X = CF(3)SO(3)(-) or ClO(4)(-)) to give four new complexes: ([Ag(C3TQ)](ClO(4)))(n)() 1, ([Ag(C3TQ)](CF(3)SO(3)))(n)() 2, ([Ag(2)(C4TQ)(CF(3)SO(3))(CH(3)CN)](CF(3)SO(3)))(n)() 3, and ([Ag(C4TQ)](ClO(4)))(n)() 4. All complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, and (1)H NMR spectroscopy. Single-crystal X-ray analysis showed that chain structures form for all complexes in which the quinoline rings interact via various intra- (1) or intermolecular (2, 3, and 4) pi-pi aromatic stacking interactions, which in the latter cases results in multidimensional structures. Additional weak interactions, such as Ag.O and Ag.S contacts and C-H.O hydrogen bonding, are also present and help form stable, crystalline materials. It was found that the (CH(2))(n) spacers (n = 3 or 4) affect the orientation of the two terminal quinolyl rings, thereby significantly influencing the specific framework structure that forms. If the same ligand is used, on the other hand, then the different counteranions have the greatest effect on the final structure.

Abstract:Bayesian learning is applied on two class systems. Partitioning a big sample made up of many elements of two classes of indistinguishable objects, we indistinctly pursue from 2 to 5 training sets called hypotheses in the probability field, with a plausible rate of object from each hypothesis. Objects are taken one by one from the sample. The basic aim faced is to predict one type of objects in the following occasion in which an agent takes one of them from the original sample to test it. We obtain the graph of a posteriori probability for each hypothesis of one of the objects. A prediction that the following object is specifically one of them is acquired in one probability curve by means of training previously accomplished. This methodology is applied on manufacture of glass bottles of two classes: good or crash. The main interest is to predict which machine produced one detected crash bottle because bottles turn to be indistinguishable when they are reviewed. This is solved by fixing a priori probabilities and taking into account all possible probability distribution combinations in the classes.
Self-assembly of Supramolecular Planar Macrocycle Driven by Intermolecular Halogen Bonding

Abstract:The design and synthesis of three kinds of arylamide molecules (compounds 1 similar to 3) containing halogen bonding donor and acceptor fragments, and the exploration and analyzation of different action modes of halogen bonding in solid phase were reported. Compounds 1 and 2 contain two tetrafluoroiodobenzene fragments, and compound 1 also contains a halogen receptor fragment-pyridine group. Isobutyl groups are introduced into the molecule to increase its solubility and crystallinity. And a pyrimidine fragment was introduced into compound 3, which has more aromatic rings. The two N atoms of the pyrimidine fragment can theoretically form intramolecular hydrogen bonds with the adjacent amide hydrogen atoms (-C(=O)NH), so that the whole molecule has the properties of hydrogen-bonded arylamide foldamer. Moreover, trifluoro-benzene fragments were selected in compound 3 to eliminate the repulsion between excess fluorine atoms and carbonyls. The crystal structures reveal that the three aromatic rings in compound 1 are twisted with each other for there is no intramolecular hydrogen bond, and a supramolecular DNA-like double helix was assembled controlled by intermolecular N center dot center dot center dot I and O center dot center dot center dot I halogen bonds arranged alternately. Compound 2 failed to form an intramolecular three-center hydrogen bonding due to the repulsion between the amide carbonyl groups and the two fluorine atoms in close proximity. As expected, in the solid phase of compound 3, an effective three-center hydrogen bond is formed between the terminal trifluoroiodobenzene and the benzene ring attached to it. Moreover, the two N-H bonds connected to the pyrimidine ring also form two effective three-center hydrogen bonds. The difference is that the participants of these two groups of three-center hydrogen bonds include two N atoms in the pyrimidine ring. The four aromatic rings in compound 3 are nearly coplanar driven by these intramolecular three-center hydrogen bonds. Two sets of strong intermolecular (pyridine ring) N center dot center dot center dot I halogen bonds control the formation of [1+1] bimolecular supramolecular macrocycles with inner diameters of 1.36 nm and 1.07 nm in length and width. Moreover, the supramolecular macrocycle is near-planar due to the introduction of pyrimidine ring.

Abstract:Six new supramolecular structures have been prepared by bis(2-hydroxy-5-chlorophenyl) sulfide (HCS) and/or spirobicromane (SBC) with bipyridine bases 4,4'-bipyridyl (bipy), 1,2-di(4-pyridyl)ethylene (dipy-ete), 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (bipy-eta), and 4,4'-dipyridyl N,N'-dioxide (dipy-dox). These molecular complexes are (HCS)(bipy) 1, (HCS)(.)(dipy-ete) 2, (HCS)(.)(bipy-eta) 3, (HCS)-(dipy-dox)4, (SBC)-(dipy-ete) 5, and (SBC)-(dipy-dox)(H2O)-H-. 6, respectively. The crystal structures of 1-6 have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. All of these molecular complexes exhibit supramolecular structures via O-(HN)-N-... or O-(HO)-O-... hydrogen bondings. Both 1 and 2 form interestingly [2 + 2] macrocyclic structures, whose sizes are ca. 12.495(6) angstrom x 5.087(6) angstrom and 14.774(6) angstrom x 5.300(6) angstrom, respectively. Compounds 3 and 5 form one-dimensional zigzag chain structures. Compounds 4 and 6 form two-dimensional double helices. These results demonstrate that by changing the guest molecule, we can obtain different hydrogen-bonded supramolecular structures through different interactions.

Abstract:A new class of chiral eighteen-component three-dimensional supramolecular entities has been assembled in toluene and chloroform from twelve zinc porphyrin-appended 2-(ethylamino)- pyrimido[4,5-b][1,8]naphthyridin-4(3H)-one monomers and six chiral bipyridyl compounds. The heterocyclic segments form two C6-symmetric cyclic hexamers, which are stabilized by a well-established DDA–AAD hydrogen bonding motif, while the six chiral bispyridine ligands are coordinated to the corresponding zinc porphyrin units to give the two-layered architectures. The structures have been characterized by the 1H NMR, UV–vis and circular dichroism experiments, which also reveals that, when the concentration of the monomers is high enough, the chiral supramolecular entity can be formed exclusively.
Three-Dimensional Supramolecular Architectures with CoII Ions Assembled from Hydrogen Bonding and Π···π Stacking Interactions: Crystal Structures and Antiferromagnetic Properties

Abstract:Five Co-II complexes based on H3L1 and H3L2, namely, [Co-3(L-1)(2)(4,4'-bipy)(H2O)(3)](n) (1), [Co-3(L-1)(2)(4,4'-bipy)(3)(H2O)(4)](n) (2), {[Co-2(Li)(4,4'-bibp)(mu(3)-OH)(H2O)]center dot H2O}(n) (3), {[CO3(L-2)(2)(dib)(3)]center dot 2H(2)O}(n) (4), and [CO3(L-2)(2)(4,4'-bibp)(3)](n) (5) [(H3L1 = 4-[(3-carboxynaphthalen-2-yl)oxy]phthalic acid, H3L2 = 3-[(3-carboxynaphthalen-2-yl)oxy]phthalic acid, 4,4'-bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine, cub = 1,4-di(1H-imidazol-1-yl) benzene, and 4,4'-bibp = 4,4'-bis(imidazol)biphenyl] have been synthesized by solvothermal reactions. Complex 1 displays a (4,4,6) connected topology with a Schlafli symbol of (4.10(4).12)(4(11).6(4))(4(8).6)(2,) and the two-dimensional (2D) structure was assembled to form a three-dimensional (3D) framework by C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions of internaphthalene rings, showing the dominant antiferromagnetic exchanges in a triangular {Co3} cluster. Complex 2 presents a 2D (3,4,4)-connected network with a Schlafli symbol of (5.6(2))(2)(5(2).6(3).7)(2)(5(4).8(2)) and weakly antiferromagnetic behavior. Complex 3 features a novel (4,4,8)-connected topology with a Schlafli symbol of (3(2).4.5(2).6)(2)(3(2).4(2).5(2))(2)(3(4).4(6).5(8).6(7).7(2).8). In addition, complex 3 based on a parallelogram-shaped [Co-4(mu(3)-OH)(2)](6) secondary building unit provides antiferromagnetic interactions mediated by mu(3)-OH and syn-syn-COO- groups. The driving forces in 3D supramolecular frameworks are C-H center dot center dot center dot O, C-H center dot center dot center dot pi, and pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions for 2-3. Complexes 4-5 have an identical (4,4,5)-connected 2D network with a Schlafli symbol of (4.6(4).8)(4(2).6(7).8)(2)(4(4).6(2))(2). Additionally, the C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds between naphthalene rings and uncoordinated carboxy oxygen atoms extend 2D networks into 3D supramolecular frameworks. Magnetic investigations reveal that 4 and 5 exhibit antiferromagnetic interactions in the linear {Co3} unit.

Abstract:Abstract The crystal structures of three isomeric 4-[3-(dichlorophenyl)-hexahydro[1,3]oxazolo[3,4-a]pyridin-1-yl]-2,8-bis(trifluoromethyl)quinolines, ( 5 : X 2 = 2,3-, 2,4- and 2,5-Cl 2 ) have been determined and have been compared to those of related compounds. The crystallographic asymmetric unit of each of ( 5 : X 2 = 2,4-Cl 2 ) and ( 5 : X 2 = 3,4-Cl 2 ) consists of a single molecule, while that of ( 5 : X 2 = 2,3-Cl 2 ) contains two independent molecules – Molecule A and Molecule B. Each of the three compounds crystallizes in the triclinic space group, P 1̅. The supramoleular arrangements of the three compounds are generated from combinations of some of C–H⋯X (X = F, Cl, and O), C–X⋯π (X = H, F and Cl) and π⋯π interactions. The presence and significance of two centrosymmetric structural dimeric motives – cage-type dimers, formed (i) from the intermeshing of “F”-shaped monomers, and (ii) π(quinoline)⋯π(quinoline) interactions, reported to arise frequently in other 4-[3-aryl-hexahydro[1,3]oxazolo[3,4-a]pyridin-1-yl]-2,8-bis(trifluoromethyl)quinolone compounds, were investigated. Both ( 5 : X 2 = 2,4-Cl 2 ) and ( 5 : X 2 = 3,4-Cl 2 ) exhibit cage-type dimers. In the cases of molecule B of ( 5 : X 2 = 2,3-Cl 2 ) and ( 5 : X 2 = 3,4-Cl 2 ), the π(quinoline)⋯π(quinoline) interactions are strong, but are much weaker in molecule A of ( 5 : X 2 = 2,3-Cl 2 ) and ( 5 : X 2 = 2,4-Cl 2 ).
