Effect of music intervention on perinatal depressive symptoms: A meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: Little is known about the effect of music intervention on perinatal depressive symptoms (PDS), especially the effectiveness of specific aspects of the intervention. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of music intervention and explore the role of different intervention features. Methods: Six databases were searched from inception to May 21, 2024, to identify randomized controlled trials evaluating the effect of music intervention on PDS. The Cochrane Risk of Bias (RoB) 2.0 tool was used to assess RoB. Results: The meta-analysis of 10 studies including 988 participants showed that music intervention significantly improved PDS (standardized mean difference (SMD): 0.61, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.91, -0.32), with statistical heterogeneity among the studies (I2 = 78%). Subgroup analysis showed significant effects on pregnant and postpartum women, and women with or without perinatal complications. Effects were also significant in low- and middle-income countries (SMD: 0.79, 95% CI: 1.16, -0.42), music medicine (SMD: 0.82, 95% CI: 1.17, -0.47), and total intervention length of less than 6 weeks (SMD: 0.85, 95% CI: 1.25, -0.45), but not in high-income countries, music therapy, or total intervention length of 6 weeks or more. Hospital intervention (SMD: 0.86, 95% CI: 1.41, -0.31) showed greater effects compared with home intervention and hospital combined with home intervention. Six studies had a high overall RoB and four had some concerns. Conclusions: Music intervention is effective in alleviating PDS. Interventions in low- and middle-income countries, music medicine, total intervention length of less than 6 weeks, and hospital intervention may be advisable.
Effect of music therapy combined with psychological intervention on the anxiety and depression mood in high-risk pregnant women during pregnancy and postpartum

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effect of the music therapy combined with group psychological intervention on the anxiety and depression emotion in high-risk pregnant women during pregnancy and postpar-tum. Method:One hundred and ninety-five high-risk women with 16-20 weeks pregnancy were randomly as-signed into the intervention group(98 cases)and control group(97 cases). The intervention group were trea-ted with music therapy once when their pregnancy at 24 weeks;then asked them to listen to the music 30 min every day at home until delivery. While,they received group psychological intervention once a week when preg-nancy at 25 to 29 weeks. The control group received the usual care. All of the high-risk pregnant women were as-sessed with the hospital anxiety and depression scale(HAD)every month during the last 3 months of pregnan-cy. And 3 to 7 days,42 days and 3 months after delivery they were assessed with Edinburgh postnatal depres-sion scale(EPDS). Results:At 7 to 8 months pregnacy,the scores of HAD in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group(all P ﹤ 0. 05);but before delivery the HAD score in the in-tervention group was significantly lower the the baseline and the two groups had no significant difference. Post-partum the EPDS score of each time point in the intervention group was significantly lower than those in the con-trol group(P ﹤ 0. 05 or P ﹤ 0. 01). Conclusion:Music therapy combined with group psychological interven-tion can not only reduce the anxiety and depression symptoms during pregnancy,but also reduce the postpartum depression symptoms.

Abstract:We investigate the propagation of light impulse in aperiodic systems including Thue-Morse(TM) and Fibonacci sequence. Both refractive index and optical thickness are considered. At the same time, we calculate the transmission in TM sequence with negative refractive index by using the transfer matrix. We find many completely transparent electromagnetic states appear and the states' corresponding frequency distribution has a self-similar structure, it is similar to the normal TM photonic crystals, depending on its crystals structure and around a particular center frequency at the midgap frequency of a quarter-wavelength, the transmission is more sensitive to the optical thickness modulation.
SU-C-BRA-05: Delineating High-Dose Clinical Target Volumes for Head and Neck Tumors Using Machine Learning Algorithms.

Abstract:PURPOSE To develop and test population-based machine learning algorithms for delineating high-dose clinical target volumes (CTVs) in H&N tumors. Automating and standardizing the contouring of CTVs can reduce both physician contouring time and inter-physician variability, which is one of the largest sources of uncertainty in H&N radiotherapy. METHODS Twenty-five node-negative patients treated with definitive radiotherapy were selected (6 right base of tongue, 11 left and 9 right tonsil). All patients had GTV and CTVs manually contoured by an experienced radiation oncologist prior to treatment. This contouring process, which is driven by anatomical, pathological, and patient specific information, typically results in non-uniform margin expansions about the GTV. Therefore, we tested two methods to delineate high-dose CTV given a manually-contoured GTV: (1) regression-support vector machines(SVM) and (2) classification-SVM. These models were trained and tested on each patient group using leave-one-out cross-validation. The volume difference(VD) and Dice similarity coefficient(DSC) between the manual and auto-contoured CTV were calculated to evaluate the results. Distances from GTV-to-CTV were computed about each patient's GTV and these distances, in addition to distances from GTV to surrounding anatomy in the expansion direction, were utilized in the regression-SVM method. The classification-SVM method used categorical voxel-information (GTV, selected anatomical structures, else) from a 3×3×3cm3 ROI centered about the voxel to classify voxels as CTV. RESULTS Volumes for the auto-contoured CTVs ranged from 17.1 to 149.1cc and 17.4 to 151.9cc; the average(range) VD between manual and auto-contoured CTV were 0.93 (0.48-1.59) and 1.16(0.48-1.97); while average(range) DSC values were 0.75(0.59-0.88) and 0.74(0.59-0.81) for the regression-SVM and classification-SVM methods, respectively. CONCLUSION We developed two novel machine learning methods to delineate high-dose CTV for H&N patients. Both methods showed promising results that hint to a solution to the standardization of the contouring process of clinical target volumes. Varian Medical Systems grant.
Effectiveness of music intervention on physiological parameters of hospitalized preterm infants: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective To systematically review the effectiveness of music intervention on the regulation of physiological parameters of preterm infants during hospitalization.Methods Databases including CNKI,WANFANG,Pubmed,CINAHL,Embase and Cochrane Library were electronically searched for the randomized controlled trials(RCTs)on the effect of music intervention on the physiological parameters of hospitalized preterm infants from inception to April 18,2017.Participants were stable preterm infants with normal hearing.The experimental group was treated with music intervention(without limitation of music type,intervention time,frequency and duration).During the intervention,premature infants did not receive any invasive stimuli,and were in a calm state.The control group did not receive any music intervention.Outcome indicators included oxygen saturation,heart rate,respiratory frequency and other physiological indicators.The methodological quality of the literatures was evaluated by JBI literature quality evaluation tool and data were analyzed by RevMan 5.3 software.Results A total of nine studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria,and five of them with quality A or B(all in English)were analyzed.All the five studies reported oxygen saturation,and four reported heart rate and respiratory rate.Meta-analysis showed that the difference of oxygen saturation,heart rate and respiration rate of preterm infants was not statistically significant between the intervention group and the control group.According to the different types of music and different forms of music implementation,subgroup analysis of lullaby,recorded music and live music were conducted.Results showed that the oxygen saturation of the recorded music group was higher than that of the control group [MD=0.81,95%CI: 0.03~1.59),Z=2.05,P=0.04] and there was no significant difference in oxygen saturation,heart rate and respiratory rate between the other subgroups and the control group.Conclusion The effect of music intervention on regulating the vital signs of premature infants is still unclear.In view of the absence of RCTs with good quality in this field,it is necessary to carry out more large-scale and high-quality RCTs to further explore the effectiveness of music intervention on physical parameters of hospitalized preterm infants.

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Background</h3><p>Prenatal depression affects 20.7 percent of women worldwide, which was associated with preterm birth, low birth weight and Apgar score, as well as cognitive, emotional and behavioral development disorders. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to retrieve the latest and best evidence about music, massage, yoga and exercise in the prevention and treatment of prenatal depression, and to preliminarily compare the four methods to explore the most effective means. We also compared different types of yoga and music, in order to find the most effective type of intervention.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>A comprehensive literature search was carried out through six databases on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Effects were summarized by a random effects model using mean differences with 95% confidence intervals. Evidence quality was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) criteria.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>This research found low to very low evidence that yoga, exercise, music and massage could reduce antenatal depression. Among them, music may be the most effective intervention, and integrated yoga other than simple yoga would improve prenatal depression. The effect of Chinese Medicine Five Element Music may be better than ordinary music.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusion</h3><p>It is important to support prenatal depression patients to make informed decisions about their behavior therapy.</p>

Abstract:Objectives To examine the impact of receptive music therapy on maternal anxiety both during and after the process of childbirth. Methods In this experimental study, 217 women were divided into the receptive music therapy and control groups. The first group were exposed to music at intervals of 20 minutes for a duration of 30 minutes during labor. Data were collected using the Pregnant Information Form, the State Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Visual Analogue Scale and Edinburgh postnatal depression scale. Results The pregnant women who participated in the music group exhibited reduced scores of STAI, both during the active time (46.42 ± 11.69 vs. 50.21 ± 11.14, 44.37 ± 10.38 vs. 47.56 ± 11.46, P<0.05) and two hours after giving birth(26.32 ± 6.23 vs. 29.55 ± 8.9, 30.38 ± 7.15 vs. 33.08 ± 9.45, P<0.05). At the first stage of labor, pregnant women in the music group experienced dramatically reduced score of pain in active phase (6.39 ± 1.00 vs. 6.91 ± 0.99, P<0.05) and Edinburgh postnatal depression scale at discharged from the hospital (6.68 ± 3.36 vs. 7.66 ± 3.54, P<0.05). Conclusion Receptive music therapy is effective in reducing pain during labor and anxiety during prenatal and postnatal periods. The use of receptive music therapy in obstetric care can be an effective tool in preventing anxiety-induced complications.

Efficacy of five-element music interventions in perinatal mental health and labor pain: A meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective: To systematically review the efficacy of five-element music interventions in perinatal mental health and labor pain. To provide evidence for future research on Chinese Traditional Music Interventions. Methods: An electronically search was conducted in Web of Science, PubMed, EMbase, The Cochrane Library, CNKI databases, WanFang Data and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals from inception to January 07, 2020 to collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on five-element music interventions for prenatal, perinatal and postpartum women. Literature screening, data extraction, and the risk of bias assessment of all eligible studies were conducted by two reviewers independently. Then, meta-analysis was performed by RevMan 5.3 software. Results: A total of 13 RCTs involving 2387 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that five-element music could significantly improve the depression levels (SMD = -2.03, 95%CI: -2.88 to -1.19, P < 0.00001), anxiety levels (SMD = -3.49, 95%CI: -4.47 to -2.24, P < 0.00001) and severe anxiety rate (OR = 0.42, 95%CI: 0.19 to 0.94, P = 0.04) of perinatal women. Additionally, five-element music produced significant effects on labor pain (MD = -0.67, 95%CI: -0.82 to -0.52, P < 0.00001), labor duration (MD = -0.85, 95%CI: -1.07 to -0.63, P < 0.00001), the hemorrhage 2 h after parturition (MD = -19.55, 95%CI: -35.56 to -3.54, P = 0.02) and the Serum DYN expression level (MD = 1.32, 95%CI: 0.23 to 2.40, P = 0.02). Conclusions: Five-element music may be efficacious in improving perinatal women' depression, anxiety, labor pain, labor duration, the hemorrhage 2 h after parturition and the Serum DYN expression level. Because of the limitation of quantity and quality of included studies, more high-quality studies were needed to confirm the above conclusion.

Abstract:Pregnancy can heighten anxiety levels, impacting both maternal and fetal well-being. This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 33 randomized controlled trials exploring the effects of music therapy on anxiety in pregnant women. The studies included diverse populations, ranging from women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) to those facing high-risk pregnancies. Music therapy interventions varied widely, including virtual reality experiences, classical music, lullabies, and patient-selected music, administered at different pregnancy stages such as IVF treatments, elective cesarean sections, and high-risk hospitalizations. The findings consistently demonstrated that music therapy significantly reduces anxiety levels in pregnant women. Positive outcomes included reductions in both state and trait anxiety, improved pregnancy rates, and enhanced maternal-fetal parameters. Additionally, music therapy showed promise in reducing anxiety during labor, cesarean deliveries, and high-risk hospital stays. These varied interventions and their positive outcomes highlight the potential of music therapy as an effective, non-pharmacological approach to managing pregnancy-related anxiety. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the existing evidence on music therapy's efficacy in alleviating anxiety during pregnancy. It underscores the need for further research to standardize interventions and incorporate music therapy into routine prenatal care. By enhancing the overall well-being of expectant mothers, music therapy could become a valuable adjunct to conventional prenatal care practices.

Abstract:Novel imaging modalities are required to better identify vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques before their dire consequences of myocardial infarction, sudden death, and stroke. Moving beyond traditional diagnostic methods, the field of molecular imaging offers an innovative approach to report upon critical in vivo biological features of high-risk plaques. Molecular imaging employs engineered, targeted imaging agents in conjunction with sophisticated, high-resolution detection systems. While various modalities have been investigated for this purpose, intravascular near infrared fluorescence imaging (NIRF) strategies are uniquely poised to provide high-resolution readouts of human coronary artery plaques. To date, preclinical animal studies have demonstrated feasibility of both standalone NIRF intravascular imaging as well as dual-modality approaches detecting inflammation and fibrin deposition in coronary-sized arteries. This translatable catheter-based approach is positioned to advance the identification of biologically vulnerable coronary plaques and coronary stents at risk of thrombosis.
The safety and effectiveness of music medicine as an intervention for depression: A systematic evaluation and re-evaluation

Abstract:Background: As the methodological quality and evidence level of the existing systematic reviews (SRs) on music as an intervention for depression have not been thoroughly evaluated, a systematic evaluation and re-evaluation (SERE) was conducted. Methods: Multiple databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, SinoMed, Wanfang, and the VIP database were searched for SRs and meta-analyses (MAs) on the effectiveness of music as an intervention for depression. The literature screening, evaluation of methodological quality, and assessment of evidence level were carried out by a team of researchers. The methodological quality was evaluated using the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2) scale in accordance with the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) criteria were utilized to assess the level of evidence. Results: A total of 18 SRs were included in the analysis. The 2020 PRISMA guidelines were utilized to evaluate various aspects such as search terms, funding sources, statistical methods for missing values, subgroup and sensitivity analyses, certainty assessment, excluded literature citations, assessment of publication bias, protocol information, conflicts of interest, and data availability, which were rarely reported. The evaluation of the studies using the AMSTAR 2 scale revealed that one article was rated as high quality, six were rated as low quality, and 11 were rated as very low quality. Based on the GRADE criteria evaluation, the quality of the evidence was found to be inconsistent, with reports primarily consisting of medium-quality evidence. Conclusion: The methodological quality of SRs/MAs of music as an intervention in depression is generally poor, and the level of evidence is generally low.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: With the continuous advancement of medical technology, the survival rate of preterm infants is gradually improving, However, due to the underdeveloped function of various organs and systems, preterm infants are often exposed to light, noise, medical as well as nursing operations and other stimuli during their hospitalization in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU); it is highly susceptible to a number of problems, such as pain, unstable vital signs, growth retardation, and sleep disruption. OBJECTIVE: This article reviews the research progress of music intervention in nursing of premature infants in NICU with both traditional and conventional care. METHODS: This article reviews the research background, methodology/design, and measurement/application effects of music interventions, including Chinese and Western traditional music, in the care of preterm infants in NICU. All scholarly literature retrieved from MEDLINE\PubMed, Science Citation Index Expanded, Google scholar, CNKI scholar, Scopus and PubsHub. RESULTS: As a simple and effective non-pharmacological intervention, music intervention can effectively alleviate neonatal surgical pain, increase heart rate and oxygen saturation, promote sleep, growth and development, and improve neurological development. CONCLUSIONS: This review provide theoretical references for clinical practice.

Abstract:Objective:Pregnant and postpartum women are vulnerable to psychological problems with a high estimated prevalence. To date, there is no meta-analysis that specifically assesses the effectiveness of art-based interventions to improve mental health in pregnant and postpartum women. The objective of this meta-analysis was to assess the efficacy of art-based interventions when delivered to pregnant and postpartum women. Methods:Systematic literature searches were conducted from the inception to 6 March 2022 in seven English databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register, CINAHL, ProQuest, Scopus, and Web of Science. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) reporting art-based interventions targeting the improvement of women's mental health in pregnancy and postpartum were included. Cochrane risk of bias tool was applied to assess evidence quality. Results:Twenty-one randomised controlled trials (RCTs) involving 2,815 participants were eligible for data analysis. A pooled analysis demonstrated that art-based interventions significantly reduced anxiety (SMD = -0.75, 95% CI = -1.10 to -0.40) and depression symptoms (MD = -0.79, 95% CI = -1.30 to -0.28). However, art-based interventions did not alleviate stress symptoms as expected in our findings. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that intervention implementation time, intervention duration and music selected by the participants vs. not could have influence on the efficacy of art-based intervention for anxiety. Conclusion:In perinatal mental health, art-based interventions may be effective in alleviating anxiety and depression. In the future, we still need to conduct high-quality RCTs to validate our findings and enrich clinical application of art-based interventions.

Abstract:To systematically evaluate the intervention effect of music therapy on anxiety and depression in breast cancer patients. Randomised controlled trial (RCT) on music therapy for anxiety and depression in breast cancer patients was searched from 7 major databases, PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, WOS, CNIC, Wanfang, and Wipro, spanning the period of library construction to 23 October 2023, and the literature screening of music therapy for anxiety or depression in breast cancer patients was carried out by 2 experimentalists, each of whom conducted a literature screening RCT independently of the other anxiety or depression in a RCT. Methodological quality was evaluated using the PEDro scale; GRADE profiler software for quality of evidence; and RevMan 5.4 was used for effect size merging and forest plots; publication bias tests and sensitivity analyses were performed using Stata 17.0; and standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% CI were used as the effect statistics. A total of 13 RCTs with 1326 subjects (aged 18–70 years) were included in the literature, with a mean PEDro score of 6.8, and the literature was overall of good methodological quality. Meta-analysis showed that music therapy improved anxiety in breast cancer patients (841 cases), with a combined effect size (SMD = − 0.82, 95% CI [− 1.03, − 0.61] and P < 0.001); and improved depression in breast cancer patients (387 cases) with a combined effect size (SMD = − 0.76, 95% CI [− 1.15, − 0.38], P < 0.001). Subgroup analyses showed that music intervention with off-site music (757 cases) and music choice of non-self-selected music (537 cases) had the best effect on anxiety improvement, with corresponding combined effect sizes (SMD = − 0.88, P < 0.001; SMD = − 0.83, P < 0.001), respectively; followed by an intervention length of < 30 min (589 cases), a frequency of 2 times/day (382 cases), and intervention period of 2–3 weeks (101 cases) had the best effect on anxiety improvement, and the corresponding combined effect sizes were (SMD = − 0.80, P < 0.001; SMD = − 0.91, P < 0.001; SMD = − 1.02, P < 0.001), respectively; and the music selection was the choice of one's own favourite music among the expert recommendations (219 cases) (270 cases) had the best effect on the improvement of depressed mood, with combined effect sizes of (SMD = − 1.15, P < 0.001; SMD = − 0.71, P < 0.001) and music with an intervention duration of 30 min (287 cases), an intervention frequency of 1 time/day (348 cases), and an intervention period of 2–4 weeks (120 cases), respectively, with corresponding combined effect sizes of (SMD = − 0.75, P < 0.001; SMD = − 0.86, P < 0.001; SMD = − 1.06, P < 0.001), respectively. Music therapy can improve anxiety and depression in breast cancer patients, and the level of evidence is moderate. Although the heterogeneity between studies is high, which may lead to bias in the results, we explored the source of heterogeneity through subgroup and sensitivity analyses, providing a good evidence-based basis for clinical practice. The heterogeneity of anxiety and depression was explored by subgroup analysis, with anxiety due to music duration and music cycle; and depression due to intervention cycles and music duration. Sensitivity analyses also identified music duration and music cycle as contributing to the heterogeneity. Also, this study has some limitations since the included literature did not take into account the duration of the disease, education, and family economic status and did not categorize the age stages. This study found that music therapy improves anxiety and depression in breast cancer patients and the results can be used as a basis for clinical practice and researcher enquiry. Abstract:Background Postpartum blues/postpartum maternal blues is a psychological disorder experienced by mothers with symptoms of postpartum sadness, easy crying, easy anxiety, sensitivity, indecisiveness. The study aimed to examine the effect of music played on newly delivered mothers on postpartum blues. Methods A prospective, two-arm, randomized controlled study was conducted on n = 82 (41 = control, 41 = music group) mothers who gave birth at term in Trakya University Health Research and Application Center Maternity Service between May and December 2023. The research data were collected through the Personal Information Form, Stein Blues Scale (SBS), and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS). The scales used in the study were evaluated four times: postoperative 0–3 h, 12th, 24th, and 36th hours. Results The postoperative 0–3 h SBS test median of the new mothers in the music group was 19.00, and the 36th hours test median was 2.00, while the postoperative 0–3 h SBS test median of the control group was 21.00, and the 36th hour test median was 13.00. The postoperative 0–3 h EPDS test median of the new mothers in the music group was 22.00, and the 36th hours test median was 0.00, while the postoperative 0–3 h EPDS test median of the control group was 26.00, and the 36th hours test median was 10.00. A significant difference was found in the 12th, 24th, and 36th hours ( p < .001). A statistically significant high positive correlation was found between EPDS and SBS in the 12th, 24th, and 36th hours ( p < .001). Conclusions In the study, it was found that music played to newly delivered mothers reduced postpartum blues and depression levels. The effect of music on pain management in preterm infants during daily painful procedures: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: The present systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to investigate the effects of music on pain management in preterm neonates during painful procedures. Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, EBSCO and Cochrane Library databases were searched to identify relevant articles published from their inception to September 2023. The study search strategy and all other processes were implemented in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Results: Four RCTs that satisfied the inclusion criteria were included in this meta-analysis. The music group had significantly lower Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP) scores during (RR = −1.21; 95% CI = −2.02–−0.40, p = 0.0032) and after painful procedures (RR = −0.65; 95% CI = −1.06–−0.23, p = 0.002). The music group showed fewer changes in PIPP scores after invasive operations than did the control group (RR = −2.06; 95% CI −3.16–−0.96; p = 0.0002). Moreover, our results showed that music improved oxygen saturation during (RR = 3.04, 95% CI = 1.64–4.44, p < 0.0001) and after painful procedures (RR = 3.50, 95% CI = 2.11–4.90, p < 0.00001). However, the change in peak heart rate during and after painful procedures was not statistically significant (RR = −12.14; 95% CI = −29.70−5.41 p = 0.18; RR = −10.41; 95% CI = −22.72−1.90 p = 0.10). Conclusion: In conclusion, this systematic review demonstrated that music interventions are effective for relieving procedural pain in preterm infants. Our results indicate that music can reduce stress levels and improve blood oxygen saturation. Due to the current limitations, large-scale, prospective RCTs should be performed to validate the present results.

Clinical benefits of music-based interventions on preterm infants' health: A systematic review of randomised trials

Abstract:Aim: This systematic review aimed to differentiate and isolate the results of different music-based interventions used with preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit and explore their clinical benefits. Methods: The last search was performed on 5 July 2021 on Web of Science, Scopus, EMBASE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, LILACS and CENTRAL. Only randomised clinical trials that explored the health benefits of music-based interventions were considered. Results: A total of 39 studies were included. All music-based interventions were divided into music medicine and music therapy. The overall results suggested that music medicine interventions were associated with a significant improvement in pain relief; in turn, improvements in cardiac and respiratory function, weight gain, eating behaviour, and quiet alert and sleep states were more consistent in studies that followed a music therapy approach with the presence of a music therapist. Conclusion: This review supports the beneficial effects of music-based interventions on the health of preterm infants in a neonatal intensive care unit; however, it also offers suggestions for future studies in order to increase the number of interventions with music therapists, since the results of music therapy approaches were more consistent for physiological and behavioural outcomes.
Effectiveness of digital psychological interventions in reducing perinatal depression: a systematic review of meta-analyses

Abstract:Digital psychological interventions have been widely used clinically in recent years, but the methodological quality and quality of evidence of related studies are unclear, thus interfering with the translation of practice outcomes and the application of clinical decisions. We searched for meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, JBI Database, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases as well as some databases containing gray literature up to 27 April 2022 using a combination of keywords. After two researchers independently screened and extracted data from the literature, the methodological quality of the included literature was evaluated by the AMSTAR 2 scale, and the evidence quality of the outcome index was graded by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system. A total of 12 meta-analyses reporting the positive impact of digital psychological interventions in the prevention and/or treatment of depressive symptoms in perinatal women were included, but the methodological quality and evidence level of the included studies were low. Digital psychological interventions are effective in reducing perinatal depression, but the methodological quality and reliability of outcome indicators are mostly low. Improving study designs, using higher-quality clinical evidence, conducting systematic evaluation studies strictly following the procedures, and standardizing the reporting of study results are recommended.
