Abstract:ABSTRACT Aim: To translate and validate the European Organization for Research and Treatment for Cancer (EORTC) module for assessing the sexual health-related quality of life in cancer patients (QLQ-SH22), in Hindi, Marathi, and Bangla languages for clinical use. Methods and Results: The EORTC QLQ-SH-22 was translated into Hindi, Marathi, and Bangla by adopting standard guidelines given by EORTC. Initially, the original questionnaire was forward translated by two separate translators, followed by the reconciliation of the forward translations by a third person. This was followed by two back translations of the reconciled version into English by two other translators. These back-translated questions were then compared with the original EORTC questions for accuracy, and once acceptable, a preliminary questionnaire was prepared in all three languages. These questionnaires were then pilot tested with 30 patients (10 for each language) diagnosed with any of the cancers in the pelvic region who are expected to be at risk of sexual quality of life due to tumor or treatment like pelvic radiotherapy. Participated patients had never seen or filled the questionnaire before, each patient was interviewed after filling the questionnaire for difficulty in answering, confusion, difficulty understanding, or if any of the questions were upsetting and if patients would have asked the question differently. Results: None of the patients reported any changes or suggestions for all the three translations. All the translated questionnaires were well understood by all the patients. Pilot testing reports were sent to EORTC. After reviewing the entire report of Hindi, Marathi, and Bangla translations, these questionnaires were approved by the EORTC translation unit. The questionnaires are reliable with Cronbach’s α for Hindi, Marathi, and Bangla being 0.69, 0.66, and 0.86, respectively. Conclusion: The final Hindi, Marathi, and Bangla translations of SH 22 have been approved by the EORTC and can be used to assess the sexual health of cancer patients in routine oncology practices and/or clinical studies.

Abstract:Background: This study aimed to translate and validate an Arabic version of the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy Head and Neck Scale (FACT-H&N, v-4) for use among Sudanese oral cancer patients. Methods: The instrument underwent translation and validation following the standard FACT translation methodology. The translated instrument was pre-tested for face validity and content validity using semi-structured, in-depth interviews with ten oral cancer patients to assess acceptability. The questionnaire was pilot tested with 60 patients; reliability was tested for internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha while construct validity was tested using 'known-group validity'. Results: The pre-test study revealed no major issues, apart from a reluctance to answer questions on sexual satisfaction. The FACT-H&N demonstrated good internal consistency, it considered five particular constructs: PWB, SWB, EWB, FWB and FACT-H&N, their Cronbach's α values were positive and close to 1 with values of 0.85, 0.788, 0.86, 0.895 and 0.703 respectively, indicating that the questionnaire was valid and the responses consistent. Sixty patients were asked the global health-related quality of life item, 36.3% rated their QOL as very good or good (36.3%), while 41.7% rated it as average, and 21.7% as poor or very poor. Then FACT subscale mean scores were tabulated against three categories; patients with very poor/poor recorded significantly lower scores indicating construct validity. Some psychometric properties were consistent with other FACT-H&N translations such as the Chinese, French, Pakistani and Malaysian. Conclusions: This study validates the Arabic version of the FACT-H&N. It is a reliable tool and, will assist further QoL research in other Arabic-speaking countries.

Abstract:Significant improvements in population health are likely to arise when the social determinants of health are addressed. This creates a challenge for health systems, as the policy levers to influence the determinants largely lie outside of their direct control. Health agencies have been attempting to develop responses that affect these policy levers with mixed success. Success often requires particular conditions or “windows of opportunity” to be present before even small systemic change can be made. The government of South Australia has developed a practical, policy-oriented response to address the determinants of health—Health in All Policies—and has been successfully working across government for the past five years, using a policy learning process to implement this approach. This article will focus on how the South Australian Health in All Policies initiative started and the conditions that enabled South Australia to establish a centralized governance structure, harness a group of cross-sector policy entrepreneurs, and conduct health lens projects across a range of policy issues. The authors will comment on the nature of these conditions and their relevance for other governments struggling to reduce the burden of chronic disease and growing health budgets by addressing the social determinants of health.
Psychometric analysis of Marathi version of an updated European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Head and Neck Module (EORTC QLQ-H&N43)

Abstract:Abstract Background: The aim of this study was to perform a psychometric analysis of the Marathi version of an updated European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Head and Neck Module (EORTC QLQ-H&N43) in patients of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Material and Methods: After an institutional ethics committee approval and linguistic validation, the Marathi version of EORTC QLQ-H&N43 was served to consecutive eligible, Marathi-speaking HNSCC patients of oral cavity, oropharynx, hypopharynx and larynx, registered from August 2019 to March 2021 and who consented to the study. Performance status scale was used for perceptive assessment of organ function. Psychometric analysis was performed using SYSTAT v. 12 (Cranes software, Bengaluru). Results: A total of 129 patients participated in the study with a median age of 67 years and the man-to-woman ratio of 100:29. The commonest sub-site reported was the oral cavity (61.24%) and the majority were in stage IV disease (69.76%). Ninety patients completed the questionnaire before being started on active oncology treatment at our center. 39 patients completed the questionnaire at pre-treatment and first follow-up. The questionnaire was filled on their own (module) by 32.55% of patients while 67.44% of patients required some kind of assistance (schedule). Internal consistency was moderate to high. The criterion and construct validities were acceptable. The questionnaire was sensitive to change with stage and time. No significant difference was observed in module versus schedule subgroup except for 2 out of 19 item-scales. Conclusion: Marathi translation of EORTC QLQ-H&N43 is a sensitive, reliable and valid tool when applied to patients of HNSCC. It can be considered as a schedule.

Abstract:ObjectiveTo validate the use of Chronic Oral Mucosal Diseases Questionnaire in oral submucous fibrosis.Materials and methodsHundred consecutive oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) patients were requested to respond to Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score and complete the Oral Health Impact Profile 14 (OHIP 14) and COMDQ. Spearman’s rho correlation was used to assess the relationship between VAS and COMDQ score and COMDQ and OHIP 14 score. The reliability of the instrument was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha analysis. Discriminant analysis was used to assess if COMDQ significantly differentiated between OSF population with and without any prior treatment done as well as OSF with mouth opening less than and more than or equal to 25 mm.ResultsThe Spearman’s correlation coefficient showed a high significance between the different domains of COMDQ and OHIP 14 and COMDQ and VAS. This study demonstrated a good convergent validity between the overall COMDQ and OHIP 14 scores (0.88).The overall Cronbach’s alpha value was found to be 0.75 indicating an acceptable internal consistency reliability of COMDQ. The tool was unable to differentiate between patients with mouth opening between less than and more than or equal to 25 mm and patients with and without prior treatment.ConclusionThese results provide evidence that COMDQ can be used for OSF patients.Clinical relevanceCOMDQ could be used as a valid and reliable tool for further clinical OSF research.

Validation of the Arabic version of the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire

Abstract:The Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) was developed just over twenty years ago to measure quality of life (QoL) changes in patients with dentofacial deformities undergoing orthognathic surgery. However, despite being used in several studies conducted in Arabic-speaking nations of the Middle East and North Africa region, there has yet to be a formal psychometric evaluation of an Arabic OQLQ. The aim of this study was to develop and assess the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of an Arabic version of the OQLQ in a cohort of Saudi Arabian patients with malocclusions and dentofacial deformities. The translation of the OQLQ used an established method for adapting health questionnaires, where the questionnaire underwent translation and back-translation by bilinguals with subsequent consultation with professionals. Cronbach’s α coefficient for internal consistency was 0.92, denoting “excellent” internal consistency, and test-retest reliability was good to excellent. Overall OQOL scores were weakly but positively correlated with satisfaction with surgical treatment and were significantly lower after surgery than before surgery. The Arabic version of the OQLQ is conceptually similar to the English version, comprehensible, reliable, valid, and responsive. Future studies should now use this standardized version to ensure reliability of the results and allow comparisons between studies.

Abstract:Background: An excellent validated and reliable instrument is paramount in holistically evaluating the prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) service, encompassing functional outcomes, health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and patient satisfaction with devices and service. Objective: To perform a translation and cross-cultural adaptation of 3 modules of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Users' Survey (OPUS): (1) lower-extremity functional status (LEFS), (2) client satisfaction with device and services (CSDS), and (3) HRQoL in Malay language, and analyze its psychometric properties. Study design: Translation and validation study. Methods: This translation process consisted of 4 phases: (1) a forward-backward translation, (2) content and face validity by utilizing content and face validity indices, (3) pilot testing and psychometric analysis using exploratory factor analysis, and (4) test-retest reliability. Results: One item from OPUS Health Quality of Life Index-Malay pilot version, 5 items from OPUS LEFS-Malay pilot version, and 4 items of OPUS Satisfaction with Device and Services-Malay pilot version were deleted because of poor factor loading of <0.6. The final version of Modified OPUS HRQoL-M, Modified OPUS LEFS-M, and Modified OPUS CSDS-M consisted of 22 items, 15 items, and 17 items, respectively. The final versions of all 3 Modified OPUS Malay version possess good internal consistency of 0.854, 0.927, and 0.98, and intraclass correlation of 0.773, 0.871, and 0.821, respectively . Conclusion: Modified OPUS HRQoL-M, Modified OPUS LEFS-M, and Modified OPUS CSDS-M are valid and reliable instruments to be adopted into the local Malaysia population.

Após sua descrição, a angioplastia coronária teve evolução rápida, graças à relativsa simplicidade e aos bons resultados. Validation of the euroqol five-dimensions - three-level quality of life instrument in a classical Indian language (Odia) and its use to assess quality of life and health status of cancer patients in Eastern India

Abstract:BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The EuroQol five-dimensions - 3-level (EQ5D) is a versatile quality of life (QOL) instrument with five dimensions (mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression) and a visual analog scale. It can be used to calculate quality-adjusted life years. We aimed to evaluate the validity, reliability, and responsiveness of an Odia version of EQ5D and to study the QOL of cancer patients in our part of the country as cancer treatment in India still focuses largely on longevity due to scarcity of resources.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The EQ5D tool was translated into Odia language in collaboration with the EQ group. This tool and the World Health Organization-5 (WHO-5) questionnaires were administered to 155 surgical outpatients and 150 cancer patients in two hospitals of Eastern India. The convergent and discriminant validities (construct validity), concurrent validity, reliability (test-retest method of administering the tool to a part of the population after 7-14 days), and the internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) were measured using preestablished hypotheses. The data from the cancer patients were analyzed separately.RESULTS: The QOL worsened with age and was worse in cancer patients proved that the tool had good construct validity. The Anxiety Depression dimension had good correlation with all the dimensions WHO-5 (rho > 0.4) indicating a good concurrent validity. Internal consistency and reliability of the tool were good (Cronbach's alpha > 0.7). Cancer patients had a poor QOL (mean EQ5D index 0.37SD 0.4) with male patients, patients with Grade II cancer or referred for pain care services and those with living spouses reporting worse QOL.CONCLUSIONS: The Odia version of the EQ5D has good reliability and validity for the measurement of health status in cancer and outpatient department patients. Cancer patients in this part of the country have a poor QOL and may need a closer look at pain management and improved societal support systems.

Abstract:Background: Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) scale is a patient-reported outcome measurement tool. It evaluates both short- and long-term consequences of knee injury and primary osteoarthritis. This study aims to translate and validate the KOOS scale for a Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan population. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in three hospitals. Four hundred and fifteen patients comprising 185 males and 227 females (3 subjects did not reveal their gender) with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) participated in the study. Seventy nine participants without KOA were recruited as controls. The functionality and quality of life level in patients and healthy participants were assessed using translated versions of the KOOS and Short Form-36 (SF-36) scales. Internal consistency of the instrument was assessed by Cronbach alpha. Construct validity and test-retest reliability were examined using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to assess factorial validity. Results: The mean age (± sd) of the KOA subjects was 54.9 (± 9.2) years and for the control group was 49.2 (± 8.0) years. Majority of the respondents were female and Sinhalese in both groups. Internal consistency reliability was high (Cronbach's alpha values ≥ 0.70). The test-retest reliability was excellent with the intraclass correlation coefficient for all subscales being above 0.90. Construct validity was assessed by the magnitude of the correlation coefficient between KOOS and SF-36 subscale scores. KOOS Pain scale moderately correlated with SF-36 bodily pain (Pearson's r = 0.41). SF-36 physical function scores had a weak positive correlation with all KOOS subscales and SF-36 emotional wellbeing was not significantly correlated with KOOS Quality of Life (QoL) subscale. A five-factor Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) model yielded a Comparative Fit Index (CFI) = 0.950, Tucker Lewis Index (TLI) = 0.946, Root Mean Square Error of Approximation (RMSEA) = 0.082 and Standardised Root Mean squared Residual (SRMR) = 0.072. Conclusion: The Sinhala translation of the KOOS scale is a reliable and valid instrument to assess KOA in a Sinhala-speaking Sri Lankan population. Studies to assess its use as a scale to evaluate responsiveness are recommended.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES:The aims of this study were to describe the development of a Chinese version of the Orthognathic Quality of Life Questionnaire (OQLQ) and examine its reliability and validity.METHODS:The original English version of the OQLQ was translated into Chinese (OQLQ-C) by a forward-backward translation method. Psychometric evaluation of the OQLQ-C was carried out on a sample of 126 patients with dentofacial deformities. Reliability of the OQLQ-C was determined by means of internal consistency and test-retest methods, while validity was ascertained by content validity and construct validity.RESULTS:Internal consistency for total OQLQ-C score was 0.932 (Cronbach's alpha), and the test-retest reliability was 0.913 (Spearman correlation coefficient). Content validity of OQLQ-C was supported by content validity index (CVI) with scale-level (S-CVI) of 0.99 and item-level (I-CVI) of 0.875 to 1. The OQLQ-C was distributed to 4 different factors, and the total variance explained was 67.049%.CONCLUSIONS:The Chinese version of the OQLQ demonstrated acceptable reliability and good validity in patients with dentofacial deformities.CLINICAL RELEVANCE:These findings enable assessments of oral health-related quality of life in Chinese literate patients with dentofacial disorders.TRIAL REGISTRATION:ChiCTR1900028206.
Do children endorse psychosocial factors in the transmission of illness and disgust?

Abstract:The present studies examined beliefs concerning the impact of psychosocial factors in the transmission of contagious illness, injuries, and disgust. In Studies 1 and 2, participants ranging from preschoolers through adults judged the likelihood that a character would get sick (or injured) after being contaminated by another individual who was either of no stated relation to the character or who was a best friend, a disliked person, or a family member. Studies 3 and 4 examined effects of psychosocial relatedness on judgments of disgust (a psychological response). Study 5 examined the influence of germs on judgments of disgust. Overall, preschoolers through 2nd graders judged that any type of relatedness decreased the possibility of contracting illness from another person. However, for disgust, preschoolers judged that negative contagion would have a more powerful effect, particularly in the presence of germs. Relatedness had no effect on judgments of injury transmission. These results suggest that young children treat the psychological and biological domains as distinct but mutually interacting.

Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was performed among 400; 116 (29%) males and 284 (71%) female school teachers of Bhubaneswar. OHL-AQ questionnaire subsequent to being translated to Odia language utilizing World Health Organization recommended translation back translation protocol was then tested for the establishment of its psychometric properties with assistance from the selected expert panel of academicians. The oral health status of participants was assessed using the WHO oral health assessment form-2013. Chi-square, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and linear regression were used for statistical analysis. Results: Internal consistency of OHL-AQ-O was acceptable with an alpha value of 0.70. Test-retest reliability showed almost perfect agreement (ICC=0.90, CI=0.85-0.93) indicating highly reliable translated scale (p=0.001). Overall mean oral health literacy scores were 13.02±1.86, with about 80% belonging to the high oral health literacy level group. Caries prevalence was 78%, with a mean DMFT of 3.04±2.55. Shallow pockets were absent majorly in teachers belonging to the high oral health literacy group (p=0.01). The multiple linear regression model depicted that only the teaching experience variable added significantly to the prediction (p=0.008). Conclusion: OHL-AQ-O questionnaire was found valid and reliable to measure OHL. Further application of the instrument in other communities and populations will support establishing the external validity of the OHL-AQ-O.
Adaptation and Validation of Reflux Symptom Index into Hindi Language (RSI-H®)

Abstract:Objective: The current study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Reflux Symptomatic Index in the Hindi language. Secondly, we aimed to compare its outcomes between normal individuals and people suffering from laryngopharyngeal reflux. Study design: Cross-sectional study design. Material and methods: The original Reflux Symptom Index was translated into Hindi language using the forward-backward translation method. A total of 192 participants were included in the study. Among 192 participants, 57 were healthy controls, and 135 were individuals with laryngopharyngeal reflux. Internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and clinical validity were measured. Results: The majority of the population reported the presence of globus sensation. Results revealed that the Hindi version of the Reflux Symptom Index exhibited an excellent internal consistency (ie, 0.829). A significant difference was found between the mean scores of both groups, and the excellent test-retest reliability score (ie, 0.94 & 0.96) was obtained. Conclusion: We can conclude that the Hindi version of the Reflux Symptom Index exhibited a similar psychometric functional property as the Original version of the Reflux Symptom Index. So, the developed tool is a quick, reliable, and valid tool to assess laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Abstract:Objectives1.To adapt the existing German language olfactory disorders questionnaire for use with English‐speaking patients.2.To validate the adapted version for routine clinical use. DesignThe translated version of the original German questionnaire was revised with a patient and a clinician to reflect British language and culture. Patients attending an olfactory dysfunction clinic were recruited to perform the adapted questionnaire on two occasions at least one month apart. Additional online participants completed the questionnaire via the charity Fifth Sense. Main outcome measures•Re‐test reliability of the English olfactory disorders questionnaire (eODQ) in affected patients including potential for redundancy in any of the included questions.•Correlation of eODQ scores with Sniffin' Sticks scores. ResultsEighty‐seven patients reporting olfactory dysfunction were recruited and had a mean age of 48 with 35% of them being male; 50 datasets were available for analysis. A total of 957 members of the charity entered responses into the online questionnaire; 699 responses could be scored with participants' mean age of 55 years and with 69% reporting as female. The eODQ score and Sniffin' Sticks TDI score at timepoint 1 were correlated to assess for concurrent validity, (r=‐0.15, p=0.17) and showed no significant correlation. Female participants had a significantly higher mean total eODQ score than men, 55.75 compared to 52.28 (p=0.001). The average score was 54.7 (SD 13.5) with a range from 26 to 87. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was good with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.90 (Confidence intervals 0.89, 0.91). ConclusionsThe results of this study support the use of the eODQ in a native English‐speaking population and highlight the different distinctions between "objective" testing of olfaction with the Sniffin' Sticks test and the patient reported impact of olfactory dysfunction on daily life. These two types of assessment can be easily administered in an outpatient setting and used in the assessment and management of olfactory dysfunction.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Aim: The aim of this study was to develop and validate the first condition-specific tool to assess oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) impairment in association with chronic periodontitis and to use it as an outcome measure in clinical trials. Methods: Twenty-three potential items were developed using a combined method consisting of a literature review, semi-structured patient interviews (n=20) and expert panel 1. Subsequently, item selection was carried out by means of qualitative content analysis and quantitative classical test theory (CTT) with 110 patients and expert panel 2. Consequently, 18 items were selected and included in the final oral health impact profile for chronic periodontitis (OHIP-CP) instrument. The validity and reliability of the OHIP-CP were then examined. Results: A total of 238 patients participated in the validation phase of OHIP-CP. The final 18-item questionnaire was shown to have a three-domain structure. The three components "pain and functional limitation", "psychological discomfort" and "psychological disability and social handicap" explained 49.9%, 9.9%, and 6.2% of the variance, respectively, together accounting for 66.1% of the variance. In addition, the OHIP-CP was shown to be valid in distinguishing patients with varying severity of chronic periodontitis. For the convergent validity, the reported impact of chronic periodontitis based on the OHIP-CP significantly correlated with the global oral health rating. All of its three domains were found to have good levels of internal consistency with Cronbach's alpha >.7, and excellent test-retest reliability. Conclusion: The OHIP-CP is the first condition-specific OHRQoL instrument for patients with chronic periodontitis. This short, reliable and valid questionnaire may serve as a valuable tool in future clinical trials.
A single mutation in poliovirus RNA-dependent RNA polymerase confers resistance to mutagenic nucleotide analogs via increased fidelity

Abstract:Ribavirin is a nucleotide analog that can be incorporated by viral polymerases, causing mutations by allowing base mismatches. It is currently used therapeutically as an antiviral drug during hepatitis C virus infections. During the amplification of poliovirus genomic RNA or hepatitis C replicons, error frequency is known to increase upon ribavirin treatment. This observation has led to the hypothesis that ribavirin's antiviral activity results from error catastrophe caused by increased mutagenesis of viral genomes. Here, we describe the generation of ribavirin-resistant poliovirus by serial viral passage in the presence of increasing concentrations of the drug. Ribavirin resistance can be caused by a single amino acid change, G64S, in the viral polymerase in an unresolved portion of the fingers domain. Compared with wild-type virus, ribavirin-resistant poliovirus displays increased fidelity of RNA synthesis in the absence of ribavirin and increased survival both in the presence of ribavirin and another mutagen, 5-azacytidine. Ribavirin-resistant poliovirus represents an unusual class of viral drug resistance: resistance to a mutagen through increased fidelity.
Urdu translation, cross-cultural validation and reliability of ECOS-16 questionnaire among post-menopausal women with osteopenia

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Escala de Calidad de vida Osteoporosis (ECOS-16) was originally developed in Spanish to evaluate the quality of life (QoL) in post-menopausal women (PMW) with osteoporosis or osteopenia based on the osteoporosis-specific QoL instruments. ECOS-16 has been translated into several languages, but the Urdu version is not yet available. OBJECTIVE: To translate the ECOS-16 Questionnaire into Urdu and determine its validity and reliability in PMW with osteopenia. METHODS: This was a linguistic validity and reliability study. ECOS-16 was translated into Urdu using Beaton's guidelines. Content validity was examined using Waltz's four-point ordinal scale. Twenty osteopenia-afflicted PMW aged 48–70 underwent pilot testing for face validity. Discriminant validity was determined by an independent T-test between PMW women with and without osteopenia. Convergent validity was assessed using Spearman's correlation coefficient. Cronbach's alpha and Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC2,1) assessed internal consistency and test-retest reliability. The factor analysis was used to describe the factors. RESULTS: Each question's content validity ratio (CVR) was 0.83–1.00, while the scale's S-CVR was 0.96. Each question's Likert scale content validity index (CVI) was 0.91–0.93, while the scale's S-CVI was 0.91. Significant discriminant validity was found between groups in weeks I and II (p-value < 0.001). A correlation coefficient of 0.89 and 0.96 (p-value < 0.001) between Urdu ECOS-16 total score and SF-36 and EQ-5D scores suggests convergent validity. One component explained 83.86% of Urdu ECOS-16's variance in factor analysis. Excellent test-retest reliability (ICC2,1 = 0.990, 95% CI, 0.985–0.994, p-value < 0.001). Cronbach's alpha for standardized items was 0.995. CONCLUSION: ECOS-16 translated in Urdu is a valid and reliable questionnaire to assess QoL in PMW with osteopenia. It has a simple and easy language that can be understood easily by the Urdu-speaking population.

Abstract:Introduction: Oral health literacy (OHL) represents far more than a healthy mouth, a pleasing smile, and freedom from pain and infection which contributes positively to self-esteem leading to a healthy oral health outcome. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the OHL level and its impact on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) among the adult population visiting the outpatient department of a hospital in Ghaziabad district. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Ghaziabad district. A total of 300 study subjects aged above 18 years visiting the outpatient department of the hospital were included in the study. OHL level was assessed with the help of a bilingually adapted Hindi OHL tool, and the OHRQoL was assessed using the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 scale. Results: The mean age of the study subjects was 43.9 ± 14.36 years. Majority (150, 50%) of the study subjects had inadequate OHL level followed by marginal OHL level which was seen among 90 (30%) subjects and 60 (20%) subjects had adequate OHL level. OHL level was slightly higher among females as compared to male subjects although the results were not statistically significant. A highly statistically significant negative correlation was found among OHL scores and OHRQoL scores of any individual. Conclusion: This study concluded that raising OHL scores can have a significant impact on OHRQoL of any individual.

Abstract:The Finnish Twin Cohort Study was used to compile twin pairs in whom one or both members had astigmatism. Seventy-two pairs of twins (42 monozygotic and 30 dizygotic) were found. Refractive error and astigmatism information was obtained by asking the twins to send their last prescription for glasses to the authors. The correlations between monozygotic twins for astigmatism were not higher than the correlations between dizygotic twins. The differences in the amounts of astigmatism in monozygotic twins was not statistically significantly different than that in dizygotic twins. This suggests that genetic factors do not contribute to astigmatism, leaving environmental causes as major contributors.
