Abstract:Abstract Prickles act against herbivores, pathogens or mechanical injury, while also preventing water loss. However, whether prickles have new function and the molecular genetics of prickle patterning remain poorly explored. Here, we generated a high-quality reference genome assembly for ‘Basye's Thornless’ (BT), a prickle-free cultivar of Rosa wichuraiana, to identify genetic elements related to stem prickle development. The BT genome harbors a high level of sequence diversity in itself and with cultivar ‘Old Blush’ (R. chinensis), a founder genotype in rose domestication. Inheritance of stem prickle density was determined and two QTL were identified. Differentially expressed genes in QTL were involved in water-related functions, suggesting that prickle density may hitchhike with adaptations to moist environments. While the prickle-related gene-regulatory-network (GRN) was highly conserved, the expression variation of key candidate genes was associated with prickle density. Our study provides fundamental resources and insights for genome evolution in the Rosaceae. Ongoing efforts on identification of the molecular bases for key rose traits may lead to improvements for horticultural markets.

Abstract:Roses are among the most economically important ornamental plants worldwide. But prickles on the stem and leaves cause difficulties for cultivation or inconveniences during harvest and transportation, thus are an undesirable horticultural character. However, little is known about the molecular mechanisms of prickle development. In this study, we sought to develop Rosa multiflora (in the family Rosaceae) as a model plant to study prickle formation. The morphology, structure, and ontogeny of prickles were characterized, and transcriptome analysis of prickly and prickleless R. multiflora genotypes was performed. Morphological observation and microscopic analyses revealed that prickles of R. multiflora were non-glandular prickles (NGPs) and their maturation went through five developmental stages, which was accompanied by the accumulation of secondary metabolites such as lignin and anthocyanins. Comparative transcriptome analysis identified key pathways and hub genes potentially involved in prickle formation. Interestingly, among the differentially expressed genes (DEGs), several notable development and secondary metabolism-related transcription factors (TFs) including NAC, TCP, MYB, homeobox, and WRKY were up-regulated in prickly internodes. KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that DEGs were enriched in the pathways related to biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, flavonoids, and phenylpropanoids in the prickly R. multiflora. Our study provides novel insights into the molecular network underlying the regulation of prickle morphogenesis in R. multiflora, and the identified candidates might be applied to the genetic improvement of roses.This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Prickle-free blackberry (Rubus subgenus Rubus) canes are strongly preferred by growers due to food and worker safety concerns and damage to fruit from mechanical injury by prickles. This project was conducted to identify the genetic region responsible for prickle-free canes derived from the recessive 'Merton Thornless' source in autotetraploid blackberry using a genome-wide association study, develop diagnostic KASP markers for prickle-free canes, and determine the effects of allele dosage at the prickle-free locus on prickle density in two biparental populations. The prickle locus was located on chromosome Ra04 from 30.48 to 36.04 Mb in an extensive LD block, with the peak SNP located at 33.64 Mb. Two diagnostic KASP markers were developed that correctly predicted the phenotype of 97% and 96% of 626 diverse fresh-market blackberry genotypes from multiple breeding programs, respectively. Allele dosage at the prickle-free locus had a significant impact on prickle density, with duplex prickly genotypes having significantly higher prickle density than simplex genotypes in both biparental populations studied. Five potential candidate genes with functional annotations related to epidermal, trichome, and/or prickle development were identified within the prickle-free locus, but no nonsynonymous polymorphism within these genes were identified.

Abstract:P>Net type net blotch (NTNB) is an important barley disease in Australia and elsewhere, with significant yield reduction. This trait is important in selection along with other traits of quality and agronomic value. Two-hundred doubled-haploid lines were generated through anther culture from a cross between 'Pompadour' and 'Stirling'. Quantitative trait loci (QTL) were identified against five isolates of Pyrenophora teres f. teres, which represent virulences across Australia. QTL were mapped on chromosomes 3H and 6H using simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers. The resistance locus on 6H was detected with all isolates while the 3H locus was detected with two isolates. The 6H QTL from 'Pompadour' contributed resistance to isolates 97NB1, 95NB100 and NB81, whereas 6H QTL from 'Stirling' contributed resistance to isolates NB50 and NB52B. The 3H QTL from 'Pompadour' contributed resistance to NB50 and NB52B. Significant epistatic interactions were detected between QTL on 3H and 6H. These resistance QTL are a useful resource and identifying closely linked SSR markers with allelic combinations will facilitate in marker-assisted selection to develop NTNB resistant breeding lines.
Genetic dissection of scent metabolic profiles in diploid rose populations

Abstract:The scent of flowers is a very important trait in ornamental roses in terms of both quantity and quality. In cut roses, scented varieties are a rare exception. Although metabolic profiling has identified more than 500 scent volatiles from rose flowers so far, nothing is known about the inheritance of scent in roses. Therefore, we analysed scent volatiles and molecular markers in diploid segregating populations. We resolved the patterns of inheritance of three volatiles (nerol, neryl acetate and geranyl acetate) into single Mendelian traits, and we mapped these as single or oligogenic traits in the rose genome. Three other volatiles (geraniol, beta-citronellol and 2-phenylethanol) displayed quantitative variation in the progeny, and we mapped a total of six QTLs influencing the amounts of these volatiles onto the rose marker map. Because we included known scent related genes and newly generated ESTs for scent volatiles as markers, we were able to link scent related QTLs with putative candidate genes. Our results serve as a starting point for both more detailed analyses of complex scent biosynthetic pathways and the development of markers for marker-assisted breeding of scented rose varieties.
Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci Controlling the Development of Prickles in Eggplant by Genome Re-sequencing Analysis

Abstract:Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is the third most important crop in the family of Solanaceae. Prickles are considered as the undesirable traits during the plantation of eggplant and the transportation of fruits. In this study, we constructed a high-quality genetic linkage Bin map derived from the re-sequencing analysis on a cross of a prickly wild landrace, 17C01, and a cultivated variety, 17C02. The major quantitative trait locus (QTL) controlling the development of prickles on the calyx (explained 30.42% of the phenotypic variation), named as qPC.12, was identified on a ~7 kb region on chromosome 12. A gene within qPC.12, which encodes a WUSCHEL-related homeobox-like protein, with higher expression levels in 17C01 calyx and 22-bp deletion in 17C02 was probably the functional gene for prickle formation. Results from this study would ultimately facilitate uncovering the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying the development of a prickle in eggplant.
RrTTG1 promotes fruit prickle development through an MBW complex in Rosa roxburghii

Abstract:Fruit prickles are widely distributed on the pericarp and exhibit polymorphic traits at different developmental stages. Although they are multicellular appendages that are well-known for helping plants defend against biotic and abiotic stresses, their origination and molecular mechanism are still less known. Here, we studied the origination and molecular mechanism of fruit prickles in Rosa roxburghii . Using morphological and histological observations, we found that the fruit prickle primordium of R. roxburghii originated from the ground meristem that underwent cell division to form flagelliform prickles, continued to enlarge, and finally lignified to form mature fruit prickles. We amplified a homolog of candidate gene TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA1 ( TTG1 ) from R. roxburghii , named RrTTG1 . RrTTG1 harbored four conserved WD-repeat domains and was exclusively nuclear-localized. Using qRT-PCR and in situ hybridization, we found that RrTTG1 was constitutively expressed and highly expressed during the initiation and cell expansion phases of fruit prickles. Ectopic expression analysis in Arabidopsis proved that RrTTG1 substantially enhanced the number of trichome and pigmentation production and inhibited root hair formation. Besides, RrTTG1 complemented the phenotypes of the ttg1 mutant in Arabidopsis , thus indicating that RrTTG1 played pleiotropic roles akin to AtTTG1 . We demonstrated that the RrTTG1 only interacted with RrEGL3, a homolog of ENHANCER OF GLABRA3 (EGL3), via yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assays. Briefly, RrTTG1 might positively regulate the initiation of fruit prickle primordium and cell enlargement by forming the RrTTG1-RrEGL3-RrGL1 complex in R. roxburghii . Therefore, our results help characterize the RrTTG1 in R. roxburghii and also elucidate the establishment of the prickles regulatory system in the Rosaceae plants.

Abstract:Abstract Background Fruit quality traits have a significant effect on consumer acceptance and subsequently on peach ( Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) consumption. Determining the genetic bases of key fruit quality traits is essential for the industry to improve fruit quality and increase consumption. Pedigree-based analysis across multiple peach pedigrees can identify the genomic basis of complex traits for direct implementation in marker-assisted selection. This strategy provides breeders with better-informed decisions and improves selection efficiency and, subsequently, saves resources and time. Results Phenotypic data of seven F 1 low to medium chill full-sib families were collected over 2 years at two locations and genotyped using the 9 K SNP Illumina array. One major QTL for fruit blush was found on linkage group 4 (LG4) at 40–46 cM that explained from 20 to 32% of the total phenotypic variance and showed three QTL alleles of different effects. For soluble solids concentration (SSC), one QTL was mapped on LG5 at 60-72 cM and explained from 17 to 39% of the phenotypic variance. A major QTL for titratable acidity (TA) co-localized with the major locus for low-acid fruit ( D -locus). It was mapped at the proximal end of LG5 and explained 35 to 80% of the phenotypic variance. The new QTL for TA on the distal end of LG5 explained 14 to 22% of the phenotypic variance. This QTL co-localized with the QTL for SSC and affected TA only when the first QTL is homozygous for high acidity (epistasis). Haplotype analyses revealed SNP haplotypes and predictive SNP marker(s) associated with desired QTL alleles. Conclusions A multi-family-based QTL discovery approach enhanced the ability to discover a new TA QTL at the distal end of LG5 and validated other QTLs which were reported in previous studies. Haplotype characterization of the mapped QTLs distinguishes this work from the previous QTL studies. Identified predictive SNPs and their original sources will facilitate the selection of parents and/or seedlings that have desired QTL alleles. Our findings will help peach breeders develop new predictive, DNA-based molecular marker tests for routine use in marker-assisted breeding.

Abstract:Petals in rapeseed (Brassica napus) serve multiple functions, including protection of reproductive organs, nutrient acquisition, and attraction of pollinators. However, they also cluster densely at the top, forming a thick layer that absorbs and reflects a considerable amount of photosynthetically active radiation. Breeding genotypes with large, small, or even petal-less varieties, requires knowledge of primary genes for allelic selection and manipulation. However, our current understanding of petal-size regulation is limited, and the lack of markers and pre-breeding materials hinders targeted petal-size breeding. Here, we conducted a genome-wide association study on petal size using 295 diverse accessions. We identified 20 significant single nucleotide polymorphisms and 236 genes associated with petal-size variation. Through a cross-analysis of genomic and transcriptomic data, we focused on 14 specific genes, from which molecular markers for diverging petal-size features can be developed. Leveraging CRISPR-Cas9 technology, we successfully generated a quadruple mutant of Far-Red Elongated Hypocotyl 3 (q-bnfhy3), which exhibited smaller petals compared to the wild type. Our study provides insights into the genetic basis of petal-size regulation in rapeseed and offers abundant potential molecular markers for breeding. The q-bnfhy3 mutant unveiled a novel role of FHY3 orthologues in regulating petal size in addition to previously reported functions.

Abstract:Roses are consistently ranked at the forefront in cut flower production. Increasing demands of market and changing climate conditions have resulted in the need to further improve the diversity and quality of traits. However, frequent hybridization leads to highly heterozygous nature, including the allelic variants. Therefore, the absence of comprehensive genomic information leads to them making it challenging to molecular breeding. Here, two haplotype-resolved chromosome genomes for Rosa chinensis 'Chilong Hanzhu' (2n = 14) which is high heterozygous diploid old Chinese rose are generated. An amount of genetic variation (1,605,616 SNPs, 209,575 indels) is identified. 13,971 allelic genes show differential expression patterns between two haplotypes. Importantly, these differences hold valuable insights into regulatory mechanisms of traits. RcMYB114b can influence cyanidin-3-glucoside accumulation and the allelic variation in its promoter leads to differences in promoter activity, which as a factor control petal color. Moreover, gene family expansion may contribute to the abundance of terpenes in floral scents. Additionally, RcANT1, RcDA1, RcAG1 and RcSVP1 genes are involved in regulation of petal number and size under heat stress treatment. This study provides a foundation for molecular breeding to improve important characteristics of roses.
Transcriptome analysis reveals key genes and pathways for prickle development in Zanthoxylumarmatum

Abstract:Zanthoxylum armatum is an economically important tree species. However, well-developed prickles on its stems and leaves pose serious challenges in terms of management and harvesting. To investigate the molecular mechanism underlying prickle development, we sequenced different stages of prickle morphological development and transcriptomes of different tissues in the root tips (Gen), leaf buds (Ya), and fruits of Z. armatum. The results revealed that proteins related to cell division and genes related to the growth hormone signaling pathway were highly expressed in the prickle just protrusion (PC1). In addition, a high expression of lignin biosynthesis genes was observed during the developmental onset of lignification (PC2) and prickle lignification (PC3). These findings indicate that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and plant hormone signal transduction are key pathways for the completion of lignification development in the prickle. During prickle development, ZaMYB2 and ZaWRKY3 were significantly upregulated in PC2 and PC3, suggesting their possible involvement in prickle development. Transcriptome and qRT-PCR analyses revealed differential gene expression of zaPAL3, za4CLL1, zaCOMT1, ZaWRKY3, and ZaCCD31 in the Gen, Ya, newly formed fruit (ZaF1), newly oil-spotted fruits (ZaF2), PC1, PC2, and PC3 of Zarmatum. zaCCD31 was highly expressed in leaf buds, whereas Za4CLL1 was highly expressed in root tips. During the lignification of prickles, the relative expression of genes including zaMYB2 increased gradually; however, the relative expression of zaCCD31 decreased during this process. Therefore, we inferred that these genes might be closely related to prickle development. Notably, zaMYB2 was expressed at higher levels in PC2 and PC3 than in PC1 and was not expressed in Gen, Ya, ZaF1, and ZaF2. Therefore, zaMYB2 is a key gene involved in prickle development of Z. armatum that exhibited tissue-specific expression. This study establishes a foundation for future analyses of the molecular mechanism underlying prickle development in Z. armatum.

Abstract:The literature on pencil and paper tests and the effects of psychotropic drugs is reviewed. Performance at digit symbol substitution, symbol copying, letter cancellation, arithmetic, logic and cognitive processing with a relatively constant level of triazolam was compared with placebo. Analysis of variance, covariance analysis and principal component analysis were applied to the data. Pencil and paper tests which measure various skills are useful for detecting drug effects. Letter cancellation, arithmetic and DSST appear to be most sensitive, although logic and symbol copying may be useful.
Identification of QTLs and Candidate Genes Related to Flower Traits and Bolting Time in Radish (Raphanus sativus L.)

Abstract:Radish flower color, bolting time, and flowering time are important traits for attracting certain pollinators and affect fleshy root quality. In this study, an analysis of the anthocyanidins in radish flowers by high-performance liquid chromatography revealed that differences in the cyanidin content are likely to be associated with the variability in radish flower colors (i.e., purple and white petals). A quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis identified nine QTLs on three Raphanus sativus linkage groups. Three QTLs—qRFC1, qRBT1, and qRFT1—which were consistently detected and explained a high proportion of the observed variation (10.30% to 34.57%), were considered as the major QTLs responsible for flower color, bolting time, and flowering time, respectively. A total of 16 and 11 candidate genes within the major QTL regions for flower color and bolting/flowering times, respectively, were preliminarily annotated. Six genes (Rs018140, Rs018950, Rs019220, Rs020080, Rs020590, and Rs021450) related to flower color were differentially expressed in the parental lines. On the basis of nucleotide and amino acid sequence diversity between the parental lines, Rs314940, Rs315000, Rs315310, and Rs315960 were identified as candidate genes mediating the radish bolting and flowering times. This study revealed the genetic complexity of the radish flower color, bolting time, and flowering time traits. The identified candidate genes in the QTL regions may be useful for radish breeding programs and also for functional characterization in radish.

Abstract:Rose is one of the most important ornamental crops of the family Rosaceae. It is a complex crop having a patchy genome with different ploidies (2× to 10×), majorly tetraploid. With advancements in technologies, Rosa species are also being explored to understand the genetic, genomics, and molecular mechanisms behind variations of the traits. Whole-genome sequence information for the two Rosa spp. viz R. chinensis and R multiflora are available in three different studies. High-density SNP chip (68 K) further complements the molecular studies in Rose. A number of genes/QTLs have been identified and well-characterised for important traits using high-density genetic maps. Apart from genetics, epigenetics including DNA methylations and microRNAs are also being explored and found to be associated with diverse phenotypes. Despite substantial molecular tools and information, rose is still bred through conventional methods, perhaps due to its complex genome and ploidy. Thus in this review, an attempt has been made to compile all the existing molecular, genetics and genomics facts in rose and its possible utilisation in rose improvement programmes. We also discussed the forth coming prospects that can be found very potential for rose breeding.

Abstract:Turnover rates of blood glucose in rats were calculated from the decay of [14C]glucose. A glucose load suppressed glucose appearance and this was reversed by epinephrine or glucagon. Incorporation of [14C]bicarbonate into liver glycogen and blood glucose demonstrated that these hormones did not alter gluconeogetic rate but, rather the proportion of glucose recovered in the two products. The glucose enhanced by glucagon, probably through increased insulin secretion. In contrast, epinephrine decreased peripheral glucose uptake.
Improving the loading and release of NSAIDs from pHEMA hydrogels by copolymerization with functionalized monomers.

Abstract:Poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate), pHEMA, hydrogels are widely used for preparing implants, contact lenses, and other biomedical devices, which in many circumstances should load drugs to deliver them in the adjacent tissues. To enhance the potential of pHEMA hydrogels as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) delivery systems, 4-vinyl-pyridine (VP) and N-(3-aminopropyl) methacrylamide (APMA) were incorporated to the network (25-150 mM). The incorporated monomers did not change the viscoelastic properties neither the state of water, but remarkably increased the amount of ibuprofen (up to 10-fold) and diclofenac (up to 20-fold) loaded. Dried loaded pHEMA-APMA and pHEMA-VP hydrogels quickly swelled in water but ionic/hydrophobic interactions prevented the amount of drug released to be above 10%. By contrast, once the water-swollen hydrogels were transferred to pH 5.8 or 8.0 phosphate buffers or NaCl solutions, the release was prompted by competition with ions of the medium. The remaining of hydrophobic interactions and the high polymeric density of the pHEMA hydrogels contributed to sustain the release process for at least 24 h for ibuprofen and almost 1 week for diclofenac. The release rate was independent of the salt content and pH in the physiological range of values, which enables the design of hydrogel-based delivery systems with predictable release rate.
Fruit size QTL identification and the prediction of parental QTL genotypes and breeding values in multiple pedigreed populations of sweet cherry

Abstract:Large fruit size is a critical trait for any new sweet cherry (Prunus avium L.) cultivar, as it is directly related to grower profitability. Therefore, determining the genetic control of fruit size in relevant breeding germplasm is a high priority. The objectives of this study were (1) to determine the number and positions of quantitative trait loci (QTL) for sweet cherry fruit size utilizing data simultaneously from multiple families and their pedigreed ancestors, and (2) to estimate fruit size QTL genotype probabilities and genomic breeding values for the plant materials. The sweet cherry material used was a five-generation pedigree consisting of 23 founders and parents and 424 progeny individuals from four full-sib families, which were phenotyped for fruit size and genotyped with 78 RosCOS single nucleotide polymorphism and 86 simple sequence repeat markers. These data were analyzed by a Bayesian approach implemented in FlexQTL™ software. Six QTL were identified: three on linkage group (G) 2 with one each on groups 1, 3, and 6. Of these QTL, the second G2 QTL and the G6 QTL were previously discovered while other QTL were novel. The predicted QTL genotypes show that some QTL were segregating in all families while other QTL were segregating in a subset of the families. The progeny varied for breeding value, with some progeny having higher breeding values than their parents. The results illustrate the use of multiple pedigree-linked families for integrated QTL mapping in an outbred crop to discover novel QTL and predict QTL genotypes and breeding values.

The regulation of intestinal metabolism and its impact on whole animal energetics.

Abstract:In digesting and absorbing dietary nutrients, the gastrointestinal tract consumes approximately 20% of all incoming energy. A substantial proportion of this consumption is due to the rapid turnover of cellular protein, which permits abrupt changes in gut size to occur, matching capacity with delivery. If it is size of the alimentary tract that constrains nutrient uptake, greater than 20% allocation of ME intake above maintenance to the gut would improve the growth rate of a young animal but the efficiency of ME utilization for growth would deteriorate. Less than 15% allocation in birds seems injurious to both growth rate and efficiency of growth. Nutrient transport capacity of the intestine may be modulated independent of size; in the case of glucose, an up- or down-regulation of the number of brush-border glucose transporters matches absorptive capacity with delivery. The maximum uptake capacity of a small intestine for glucose at any moment in time is a function of its length, the flow rate of digesta, and the distributed-in-space kinetic parameters of transport (e.g., Vmax and Km). An example maximum uptake capacity for glucose in sheep is calculated at 2,112 g/d, assuming continuous digesta flow. Intermittency of flow reduces the uptake capacity to a functional level of 295 g/d, demonstrating a constraining influence of the periodicity of the migrating myoelectric complex. Growth regulation by stimulatory and inhibitory mitotic signals is presented as a candidate for an energy-independent determinant of the upper limit to functional maximum uptake capacity of the small intestine. Both size and functional capacity of the intestine must be considered in assessing the impact this tissue may have on the rest of the animal.
High-Density SNP Map Construction and QTL Identification for the Apetalous Character in Brassica Napus L.

Abstract:The apetalous genotype is a morphological ideotype for increasing seed yield and should be of considerable agricultural use; however, only a few studies have focused on the genetic control of this trait in Brassica napus. In the present study, a recombinant inbred line, the AH population, containing 189 individuals was derived from a cross between an apetalous line 'APL01' and a normally petalled variety 'Holly'. The Brassica 60 K Infinium BeadChip Array harboring 52,157 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers was used to genotype the AH individuals. A high-density genetic linkage map was constructed based on 2,755 bins involving 11,458 SNPs and 57 simple sequence repeats, and was used to identify loci associated with petalous degree (PDgr). The linkage map covered 2,027.53 cM, with an average marker interval of 0.72 cM. The AH map had good collinearity with the B. napus reference genome, indicating its high quality and accuracy. After phenotypic analyses across five different experiments, a total of 19 identified quantitative trait loci (QTLs) distributed across chromosomes A3, A5, A6, A9 and C8 were obtained, and these QTLs were further integrated into nine consensus QTLs by a meta-analysis. Interestingly, the major QTL qPD.C8-2 was consistently detected in all five experiments, and qPD.A9-2 and qPD.C8-3 were stably expressed in four experiments. Comparative mapping between the AH map and the B. napus reference genome suggested that there were 328 genes underlying the confidence intervals of the three steady QTLs. Based on the Gene Ontology assignments of 52 genes to the regulation of floral development in published studies, 146 genes were considered as potential candidate genes for PDgr. The current study carried out a QTL analysis for PDgr using a high-density SNP map in B. napus, providing novel targets for improving seed yield. These results advanced our understanding of the genetic control of PDgr regulation in B. napus.

Abstract:Summary To identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) controlling leaf traits and to provide some reference for future molecular marker-assisted selection and breeding for leaf traits in chrysanthemum, QTL analyses were conducted for three leaf traits: leaf length (LL), leaf width (LW), and the ratio of leaf length to width (LL:LW). Phenotypic data were collected over 2 years in a segregating F1 population of 142 hybrids of ‘Yuhualuoying’ × ‘Aoyunhanxiao’ and analysed using previously published sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP)-based maps. A total of 12 additive QTLs were identified for the three leaf traits. Each QTL accounted for between 5.8% and 13.4% of the observed phenotypic variation. Seven QTLs were detected at the same genomic regions in both years, indicating that they were stable over different environments. The tight causal linkages between the different QTLs controlling LL and LW on linkage group Y14 of the ‘Yuhualuoying’ map and on linkage group A13 of the ‘Aoyunhanxiao’ map may account for the significant phenotypic correlation between the two leaf traits. In addition, three epistatic QTLs for LL and LW accounted for 2.1 – 11.8% of the phenotypic variation in these traits. The results obtained in the present study add new knowledge and a deeper understanding of the genetic basis of leaf traits in chrysanthemum, and may be valuable in future breeding programmes to develop chrysanthemum cultivars that exhibit more desirable leaf traits.
