Abstract:Ordered mesoporous Co3O4 was fabricated using nanocasting route with SBA-15 or KIT-6 as the hard template and innovatively studied as the potential alternative to conventional Co3O4 nanoparticles for peroxymonosulfate activation. The formation of spinel Co3O4 was confirmed by wide-angle X-ray diffraction, fourier transform infrared, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, meanwhile the replication of ordered mesoporous structure was evidenced by low-angle X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption/desorption and transmission electron microscopy images. Among three different Co3O4 catalysts tested, Co3O4-KIT6 displayed the best catalytic activity in PMS solution, achieving almost complete removal of 30μM chloramphenicol within 60minat the reaction conditions of 0.1gL−1 catalyst and 1.0mM peroxymonosulfate. The superior catalytic performance of Co3O4-KIT6 was ascribed to the combination of multiple unique characteristics, including the large specific surface area, high pore volume, high Co2+ content and high density of surface active sites. Several factors played important roles in controlling the degradation of chloramphenicol. Higher catalyst dosage, higher PMS concentration, neutral pH and higher reaction temperature favored the removal. The balance among Co2+/Co3+, O2−/O2 and PMS decomposed in solution ensured the continuous generation of hydroxyl and sulfate radicals, and the latter made the predominant contribution for the CAP degradation. Considering its outstanding catalytic activity, excellent reusability and long-term stability, ordered mesoporous Co3O4 should be an ideal catalyst for environmental application.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel CeO 2 /Co 3 [Co(CN) 6 ] 2 (CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co ) composite was prepared with co-precipitation and utilized to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to eliminate tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). Catalyst screening showed that the composite with a CeO 2 :PBA Co-Co mass ratio of 1:5 (namely, 0.2-CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co ) had the best performance. The degradation efficiency of TCH in 0.2-CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co /Oxone system was investigated. The experimental results illustrated that 98% of 50 mg/L TCH and 48.5% of TOC were degraded by 50 mg/L 0.2-CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co and 400 mg/L Oxone within 120 min at 25 °C and initial pH 5.3. Recycling studies showed that the elimination rate of TCH can still achieve 85.8% after five cycles, suggesting that 0.2-CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co composite processes good reusability. Trapping experiments and EPR tests revealed that the reaction system produced multiple active species ( 1 O 2 , O 2 •– , SO 4 •– , and • OH). We proposed the catalytic mechanism of 0.2-CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co for PMS activation, which mainly involves the promoted Co 3+ /Co 2+ cycle by Ce 3+ donated electrons. These results indicate that CeO 2 /PBA Co-Co composite is an effective catalyst for wastewater remediation.

Abstract:Activation of peroxymonosulfate by heterogeneous catalyst is an efficient process for organic pollutants removal. However, it is difficult for solid-liquid separation of the heterogeneous catalysts in slurry-like batch reaction. In this work, CoS 2 particles were deposited onto an air -laid cloth (denoted as CoS 2 -ALC) and were used as a catalyst for activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Unlike traditional slurry-like batch reaction forms, a shallow continuous flow reactor was designed for the installation of a CoS 2 -ALC, thereby improving the activation efficiency of persulfate and rapid solid-liquid separation. The degradation kinetics constant for carbamazepine (CBZ) by the CoS 2 -ALC/PMS process was 0.0748 min -1 , which is 374, 150, 150 times higher than that the CoS 2 - ALC adsorption process, PMS/ALC oxidation process and PMS alone process, respectively. The significantly enhanced degradation efficiency was due to the S in CoS 2 promoting the cycling of Co 2+ /Co 3+ , thereby enhancing the generation of free radical. Parameters such as CoS 2 deposition amount, PMS concentration, water flow rate, water flow height, water flow direction, solution pH, humic acid and anions that affecting the degradation efficiencies were studied. In addition, the degradation by-products of CBZ as well as their toxicity were detected, and a possible degradation pathway were proposed. Finally, expanded outdoor experiments and cycling experiment demonstrated that the CoS 2 -ALC/PMS process is potentially useful in practical settings of wastewater treatment.
Controllable synthesis of nanorod nickel doped cobalt molybdate as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst of peroxymonosulfate for degradation of chloroquine phosphate

Abstract:This study reports the preparation of an affordable Ni-doped CoMoO 4 catalyst (Ni X Co 1−X MoO 4 (X = 0–1)) via a hydrothermal method by substituting Co with Ni and investigated the performance and mechanism of Ni X Co 1−X MoO 4 catalyzing peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade organic pollutants for the first time. Based on characterization, it can be observed that the synthesized Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 MoO 4 catalyst exhibited excellent surface properties and structural stability. Under optimal conditions, Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 MoO 4 and PMS synergistically achieved over 95% degradation of chloroquine phosphate (CQP) within 20 min, demonstrating superior performance. The degradation system maintained high efficiency under interference different interfering substances in aqueous media, exhibiting excellent tolerance and practicality. Elemental analysis and mechanistic studies of the catalyst showed that Ni doping promoted the reduction between Co 2+ /Co 3+ and Mo 4+ /Mo 6+ , which is critical for catalyst durability and reusability. The quenching experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) show that the 1 O 2 generated through non-free radical pathways represented the predominant reactive species. A total of 19 intermediates were detected by LC-MS during degradation and possible pathways for CQP degradation were proposed and toxicity evaluation. After 5 cycles, the catalyst still showed good stability. Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 MoO 4 challenges including poor activation, metal ion leaching and low recovery of transition metal catalysts were addressed. This work offers new insights for the design of atom-doped spinel catalysts for catalytic oxidation and mechanism research. The Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 MoO 4 /PMS catalytic system can be extended to the treatment of other organic pollutants and even applied in the processing of high-concentration organic wastewater that requires rapid treatment, offering broader prospects for practical applications.

Abstract:The development of efficient peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activated catalysts is important for the degradation and mineralization of organic pollutants. Metal-organic frameworks derived cobalt oxide modified cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O/Co 3 O 4 ) with carbon bone were constructed by driving a dual-precursors of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) and Cu 2 O, activating PMS for organic degradation. XRD, FT-IR, EDS analyses and XPS were used to demonstrate phase purity while SEM and HR-TEM were used to discover the shape of the synthesised material. EIS, transient current and LSV were used to enquire about the conductivity of the samples and change in current density accordingly. The degradation efficiency of Cu 2 O/Co 3 O 4 -10 for TC reached 89.8% within 60 min under dark conditions. Its activated degradation of oxytetracycline (OTC), levofloxacin (LEV) and ciprofloxacin (CIP) was 89.4%, 81.32% and 54.09%, respectively. Spherical cuprous oxide loaded on cubic cobalt oxide. Furthermore, the effective activation of PMS was achieved by increasing the electron donor capacity of Co and redox cycling of Cu. The single linear state of oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) produced by Cu 2 O/Co 3 O 4 is well adapted to H 2 PO 4 − and is active at pH = 7. Notably, Cu 2 O/Co 3 O 4 utilized hydrogen persulfate (HSO 5 − ) to generate superoxide radicals (·O 2 − ) and 1 O 2 in the PMS system by Co 3+ /Co 2+ and Cu 2+ /Cu + cyclic conversion. The strong interaction and electron transfer between Cu 2 O/Co 3 O 4 and PMS and the synergistic effect of the bimetallic oxide redox cycle accelerated improved the catalytic activity. In conclusion, this study provides a new perspective that is conducive to improving the practical application of sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs).

Abstract:A series of Co(II)-CeO2 mixed metal oxides were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal-calcination procedure for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and degrading toxic and difficult biodegradable organics. Co(II)-CeO2 showed excellent degradation performance toward rhodamine B (RhB), toluidine blue, methylene blue and diclofenac. RhB is a refractory organic contaminant, and ecotoxicological evaluation unraveled its harmfulness to the biosphere. RhB was selected as the model pollutant to investigate catalytic mechanisms. Parameters affecting degradation performance were profoundly investigated, including Co:Ce feed ratio, initial pH, PMS dosage, catalyst dosage, RhB concentration, coexisting ions and reaction temperature. Reaction mechanisms were proposed based on density functional theory calculations and identifications of reactive oxygen species. Improvements have been achieved in seven aspects compared to previous studies, including 100% degradation ratio in both real water samples and each reuse of the catalyst, ultrafast degradation rate, cost-effectiveness of the catalyst, toxicity-attenuation provided by the developed degradation method, high degree of mineralization for the model pollutant, negligible leaching of active sites, and the enhancement of catalytic performance by utilizing trace leached cobalt, endowing the technique with broad applicability and prospect.

Abstract:CoFe2O4-CeO2 composites with different CoFe2O4 content were synthesized and used as catalysts for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation in water purification. Under the conditions of 200 mg/L 15%CoFe2O4-CeO2 and 0.15 mM PMS, complete atrazine degradation was achieved in the 15%CoFe2O4-CeO2/PMS system. The pseudo-first-order rate constant (k obs) in 15%CoFe2O4-CeO2/PMS system (0.224 min−1) was 2.4 and 4.8 times of that in CoFe2O4/PMS system (0.092 min−1) and (CoFe2O4 + CeO2)/PMS system (0.047 min−1). The main reactive species were verified through various quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance tests, and the concentration of two main radicals was calculated. In addition, the interaction between CoFe2O4 and CeO2 involving Co(III)/Co(II), Fe(III)/Fe(II), and Ce(IV)/Ce(III) redox recycle for accelerating the degradation of organic compounds was explored. In addition, different from Cl−, HCO3 − and NO3 −, H2PO4 − could promote atrazine degradation in 15%CoFe2O4-CeO2/PMS system by improving sulfate radical concentration in the reaction system. The main degradation intermediates of atrazine in the 15%CoFe2O4-CeO2/PMS and CoFe2O4/PMS systems were compared, as well as the degradation pathways. The toxicity analysis based on luminescent bacteria Vibrio fischeri indicated the superiority of 15%CoFe2O4-CeO2/PMS than CoFe2O4/PMS systems for ATZ degradation.

Abstract:CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 nanoparticles used as a heterogeneous catalyst were prepared via a sol-gel method and characterized by various techniques. For comparison, a series of oxides was investigated for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) during the degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). The results indicated that CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 exhibited the highest catalytic performance among the catalysts. Complete degradation of 2,4-D (20 mg/L) was realized within 45 min at 1 mM PMS, CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 loading of 0.07 g/L, and pH of 6. Recycling experiments confirmed that CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 was very stable, and the 2,4-D degradation efficiencies ranged from 100% to 97.5%, decreasing by only 2.5% after the fifth run. The outstanding catalysis of CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 resulted from the synergy of cerium, cobalt, and copper. Electron paramagnetic resonance and radical scavenger experiments confirmed the production of SO4 center dot- and (OH)-O-center dot radicals in the CuO-Co3O4@CeO2/PMS system, which were responsible for efficient decomposition of 2,4-D. Furthermore, the combination of CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 andPMS was applied to treat natural water containing 2,4-D, and a high 2,4-D removal rate was also achieved. Based on these results, it was deduced that CuO-Co3O4@CeO2 can be utilized as a catalyst to activate PMS and destroy organic contaminants in aqueous solution.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of sulfamethoxazole (SMX), such as large amount of usage, high degradation difficulty and low removal efficiency of conventional sewage treatment technology, commercial lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) was employed as heterogeneous catalyst to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for SMX degradation in this study. Various characterization methods were applied to investigate the morphology and physicochemical properties of LCO catalysts. Then, complete removal of SMX (2.5 mg/L) was attained within 30 min, the dissolution of cobalt ion was less than 0.1 mg/L, and the removal rate of SMX could still be maintained at 90% after five consecutive cycles, revealing that LCO had outstanding catalytic performance, excellent electron transfer rate, wide operating pH range and good stability. The susceptibility of inorganic anions, diverse water bodies and distinct contaminants to LCO/PMS system was investigated to explore its realistic application. Further exploration demonstrated that the reactive species generated on SMX degradation were sulfate radical (SO4•–) and hydroxyl radical (•OH), in which SO4•– performed a leading role. Integrated with XPS analysis, it was proposed that the Co3+/Co2+ redox companions were the active sites for activating PMS. The possible degradation pathways were put forward by discussing the intermediates of SMX which identified by UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. In short, this work was conducive to supply a reference for the application of cobalt based doped heterogeneous catalyst in the field of wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Chloroquine phosphate (CQP) has played a role in the remission of COVID-19, but its large use will undoubtedly pollute the water. Herein, we have designed biomass carbon-based catalysts with anchoring sites for single cobalt atoms in a defined Co-N3 coordination structure (SA Co-N-C(30)). A peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation system employing the SA Co-N-C(30) as a high-efficiency catalyst was demonstrated, which can efficiently degrade CQP in a wide pH range (3–11). The electron-transfer was proposed as the dominant non-radical pathway for CQP degradation in SA Co-N-C(30)/PMS system by electrochemical studies and quenching experiments, and the generated singlet oxygen (1O2) played a negligible role. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental results showed that Co-N3 site served as the main active site for PMS activation. In addition, SA Co-N-C(30)/PMS system had excellent efficiencies in oxidative degradation of various organic pollutants. This work opens up a new avenue to efficient degradation of organic pollutants.
ZrO2 supported perovskite activation of peroxymonosulfate for sulfamethoxazole removal from aqueous solution

Abstract:In this study, A- and B-site doped perovskite La0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Ni0.2O3 （LSCN) was prepared by sol-gel method. On this basis, ZrO2 supported LSCN used to maintain high catalytic activity while inhibit the leaching of toxic Co ions. Compared with the non-doped LaCoO3, the ZrO2@La0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Ni0.2O3 (Z@LSCN82)/PMS system could almost completely degrade SMX in 30 min. In addition, the leaching amount of Co ions was only 0.303 mg L-1. Free radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance experiments proved that active species SO4•-, •OH and 1O2 existed in the Z@LSCN82/PMS system, and SO4•- played a major role. Besides, the catalyst had high efficiency for SMX degradation in a wide pH range. In addition, co-existing anions in water such as HPO4- and Cl- also showed slight inhibition of the system. It was indicated that the Z@LSCN82/PMS system had huge potential applications for practical wastewater treatment.
Adaptive soft starting method with current limit strategy for sensorless BLDC motors

Abstract:This paper proposes an adaptive soft start-up strategy for sensorless control of three-phase BLDC motors in applications to consumer electronics and high efficiency cooling fans. The proposed start-up control scheme combines a closed-loop I/Hz control with adaptive ramping current profile in accordance to different load torque-speed characteristic. The proposed start-up scheme can reduce the start-up current while at the same time provides a robust and smooth start-up for different applications. A synchronous current sampling control scheme based on the dc-link current is developed for the regulation of motor phase current. A start-up current limit profile is calculated based on assumed load torque-speed characteristics. The controller will switch to sensorless control mode once a verified sensorless commutation signal is detected. Simulation and experimental results have been given to show the robustness of the proposed sensorless start-up control scheme.

Abstract:Sulfate radical−based advanced oxidation processes have received considerable attentions in the remediation of organic pollutants due to their high oxidation ability. In this study, a novel Co3O4/CeO2 catalyst was fabricated and employed as a peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator to generate SO4•− for phenol degradation. The Co3O4/CeO2 catalyst exhibited a good catalytic performance at a wide pH range of 3.4 to 10.8, and 100% phenol (20 mg/L) was removed within 50-min reaction under optimal conditions with 0.2 g/L catalyst and 2.0 g/L PMS at room temperature. The transformation products and total organic carbon during the degradation process were also determined. The quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra revealed that sulfate radical (SO4•−) rather than other species such as singlet oxygen (1O2) and hydroxyl radical (•OH) was primarily responsible for phenol degradation in the Co3O4/CeO2/PMS system, and a rational mechanism was proposed. Moreover, the recycling experiments as well as low cobalt leaching concentration manifested satisfactory reusability and stability. The effects of various inorganic anions and natural organic matter in real water matrix on phenol oxidation were further evaluated. We believe that the Co3O4/CeO2 composites have promising applications of PMS activation for the degradation of organic pollutants in wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Advanced oxidation processes based on heterogeneous peroxymonosulfate activation (PMS) have been a feasible strategy for removing organic pollutants. In this study, the waste filter membranes in the laboratory were used as a carbon material, which combines with cobalt and magnesium to obtain the carbon-doped cobalt-magnesium binary oxides (C/Co3O4–MgO) after calcination to activate PMS for chloramphenicol (CAP) degradation. The results revealed that the degradation efficiency of CAP in the C/Co3O4–MgO/PMS system reached 98% within 15 min, much higher than those in C/Co3O4/PMS (62%) and Co3O4–MgO/PMS (68%) systems. The excellent catalytic performance of the C/Co3O4–MgO material was attributable to a good synergistic interaction between C, Co, and Mg. Electron paramagnetic resonance test and quenching experiments confirmed that •OH, SO4•−, and 1O2 were reactive oxygen species involved in CAP degradation. The intermediates of CAP degradation were analyzed via a high-performance liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry method, and the possible degradation pathways of CAP were proposed. C/Co3O4–MgO exhibited good stability and reusability. The concentration of leached Co ions was lower than 0.53 mg L−1, and over 95% of CAP was still decomposed in the fifth cycle. Furthermore, the degradation of rhodamine B, sulfamethazine, and phenacetin via PMS activation by C/Co3O4–MgO was investigated. These three pollutants are almost completely degraded within 10 min. Heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate by a biochar-supported Co3O4 composite for efficient degradation of chloramphenicols

Abstract:Herein, a new peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation system was established using a biochar (BC)-supported Co3O4 composite (Co3O4-BC) as a catalyst to enhance chloramphenicols degradation. The effects of the amount of Co3O4 load on the BC, Co3O4-BC amount, PMS dose and solution pH on the degradation of chloramphenicol (CAP) were investigated. The results showed that the BC support could well disperse Co3O4 particles. The degradation of CAP (30 mg/L) was enhanced in the Co3O4-BC/PMS system with the apparent degradation rate constant increased to 5.1, 19.4 and 7.2 times of that in the Co3O4/PMS, BC/PMS and PMS-alone control systems, respectively. Nearly complete removal of CAP was achieved in the Co3O4-BC/PMS system under the optimum conditions of 10 wt% Co3O4 loading on BC, 0.2 g/L Co3O4-BC, 10 mM PMS and pH 7 within 10 min. The Co3O4/BC composites had a synergistic effect on the catalytic activity possibly because the conducting BC promoted electron transfer between the Co species and HSO5- and thus accelerated the Co3+/Co2+redox cycle. Additionally, over 85.0 ± 1.5% of CAP was still removed in the 10th run. Although both SO4- and OH were identified as the main active species, SO4- played a dominant role in CAP degradation. In addition, two other chloramphenicols, i.e., florfenicol (FF) and thiamphenicol (TAP), were also effectively degraded with percentages of 86.4 ± 1.3% and 71.8 ± 1.0%, respectively. This study provides a promising catalyst Co3O4-BC to activate PMS for efficient and persistent antibiotics degradation.

Abstract:Sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) is a prevalent and recalcitrant micropollutant in water, posing a significant threat to both aquatic organisms and human health. Therefore, investigating the removal of SMZ is of critical importance. In order to investigate the effect of rare earth metal doping on the performance of activated persulfate oxidative degradation of SMZ, BiFeO 3 with different Ce doping amounts was successfully prepared by a hydrothermal method. Then, it was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The performance of porous Ce/BiFeO 3 in the catalytic activation of persulfate (PMS) for the degradation of SMZ in water was investigated using SMZ solution as a simulated wastewater. The impact of Ce doping rate, catalyst dosage, temperature variations, common anions, natural organic matter, and PMS concentration on SMZ removal was systematically evaluated. The characterization results show that the octahedral rhombic structure of Ce can be observed on the surface of this doped catalyst, and Ce doping does not change the crystalline shape of Ce/BiFeO 3 . The specific surface area of the doped catalyst increases, accompanied by an enlargement of pore size, thereby enhancing the catalyst's adsorption capacity and resistance to contamination by SMZ. Under the optimal conditions of 25 °C, SMZ concentration of 20 mg/L, 0.8 g/L PMS and 0.3 g/L 0.05Ce/BiFeO 3 catalyst, the removal rate of SMZ reaches approximately 95% within 35 min of reaction time. Even after five cycles of reuse, the degradation rate of SMZ remains above 88%, demonstrating the catalyst's good stability and reusability. Bursting experiments show that SO 4 ·– , ·OH, 1 O 2 and O 2 ·– are involved in the catalytic degradation process, with 1 O 2 playing a dominant role. Abstract:In this study, ceria nanosheets incorporated zinc cobalt−layered double hydroxide composites (ZnCo−2) were prepared and employed as a heterogeneous photocatalyst to degrade contaminants in combination with peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The morphologies and physicochemical properties of the as−prepared photocatalysts were characterized by various technologies. The ZnCo−2/PMS system exhibited the highest photocatalytic removal performance among a series of catalytic schemes with phenol (20 mg/L) as model compound and 99.8% removal was achieved after 30 min reaction under optimal conditions with 0.8 g/L PMS and 0.2 g/L catalyst at room temperature. The enhancement of more efficient separation and transportation of photogenerated electrons and holes for ZnCo−2 than the two individual units was determined by transient photocurrent responses and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy instruments. The generated oxidizing species including SO4•−, •OH, •O2−, and h+ during the degradation process were analyzed by quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra, and the possible degradation mechanism was proposed. The satisfactory reusability and wide applications of ZnCo−2/PMS/vis system indicated a class of promising technology for various non−biodegradable organic pollutants remediation.

Abstract:Enhancing the charge transfer efficiency and accelerating the redox cycle are effective approaches for improving the ability of catalysts to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Herein, cobalt regulated cerium-iron oxides (CFO-Co) were constructed successfully. Cobalt doping significantly reduces the particle size of cerium-iron oxides (CFO) and increases the concentration of oxygen vacancies, which further enhances the charge transfer efficiency and accelerates the redox cycle to generate more reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, CFO-Co exhibits boosted PMS activation which could degrade 71.2% of tetracycline (TC) within 3 min and the rate constant can be up to 0.39 min -1 , which is 5.6 times higher than that of pure CFO. In the meantime, CFO-Co still showed excellent catalytic performance under wide range of pH values, temperature, various polluted water bodies, coexisting ions, and long-term cycling conditions. Moreover, CFO-Co displayed easy catalysts recovery for its magnetic behavior. DFT calculation shows that the introduction of cobalt can significantly reduce the adsorption energy of PMS on the catalyst and lengthen peroxy bond ( I O-O ), which promotes the activation of PMS to produce ROS. The mechanism studies demonstrated that 1 O 2 , ∙OH, ∙O 2 - and SO 4 - ∙ generated during the reaction were the main active species. The possible degradation pathways and the toxicity were also analyzed. This work offers a new view on the design of PMS-activated catalysts.

Abstract:Perovskites with stable crystal structure and excellent catalytic performance have attracted extensive attention in peroxomonosulfate (PMS) activation, however, severe agglomeration has always been the main obstacle limiting the catalytic activity of them, so novel perovskite catalysts are urgently needed. In this study, three-dimensional ordered macroporous silica (3DOM SiO2) was prepared by colloidal crystal template method, then CeO2@LaMnO3/3DOM SiO2 was prepared by sol-gel method combined with impregnation method and used to activate PMS for urotropine (URO) degradation. CeO2@LaMnO3/3DOM SiO2 activated PMS system exhibited high URO removal efficiency and quick kinetic, as 99.98 % URO was degraded even within 30 min. The catalyst has a wide pH range and still has high catalytic activity in the presence of organic matter and inorganic ions. The three components in CeO2@LaMnO3/3DOM SiO2 showed a synergetic effect. CeO2 and LaMnO3 were uniformly loaded on 3DOM SiO2, which effectively avoided agglomeration. The specific surface area of CeO2@LaMnO3/3DOM SiO2 was 11.88 times that of LaMnO3 prepared by sol-gel method. There are two redox cycles of Ce3+/Ce4+ and Mn2+/Mn3+/Mn4+ in CeO2 and LaMnO3, respectively, which synergistically realize the activation of PMS. Both quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis revealed that that SO4−, OH and 1O2 jointly achieved the degradation of URO. In summary, CeO2@LaMnO3/3DOM SiO2 would be a promising candidate for practical wastewater treatment.

Abstract:In the current work, a series of novel cobalt-doped copper oxide nanomaterials (Co-CuO T , subscript 'T' means 'calcination temperature') were prepared through the chemical reduction method following by calcination. Their reactivities were screened for the degradation of various organic pollutants including p-chlorophenol (4-CP) in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) as oxidant precursor. These as-prepared Co-CuO T nanomaterials possess exposed active surface as well as positive Cu-Co synergistic effect, and further enhances the 4-CP degradation by activating PMS. The Co-CuO 300 /PMS exhibited the best ability toward the 4-CP degradation, achieving 100% degradation of 4-CP and excess 80 % removal efficiency of total organic carbon (TOC) within 10 min at room temperature. The Co-CuO 300 sample is two to thirteen folds dominative than the other samples (Co-CuO 400 , Co-CuO 500 , CuO cds and CoB), respectively. Attractive reactivities of Co-CuO T nano-catalysts are attributed to the amounts of oxygen vacancies, copper-cobalt synergy, and increased generation of reactive radicals. Based on quenching experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis, the degradation of 4-CP in the PMS/Co-CuO 300 system was found to mainly depend on the species of free radicals, e. g., hydroxyl radical (•OH), sulfate radical (SO 4 •− ). Meanwhile, Co-CuO 300 displayed better recyclability and anti-interference ability. The reactivated catalyst after the fifth run still showed high degradation activity, even completely eliminating 4-CP. Substrate expense indicate that the Co-CuO 300 /PMS system exhibited high efficiency in the degradation of various types of organic pollutants including phenolic compounds and antibiotics under mild conditions. Phytotoxicity assessment showed that mung beans grew well in both the deionized water and the filtered degradation solution, suggesting highly remarkable elimination of 4-CP in Co-CuO 300 /PMS system. Overall, Co-CuO T nanocomposites hold great promise for large-scale practical application in the activation of PMS and subsequent degradation of organic pollutants.
