Helping themselves to get pregnant: a qualitative longitudinal study on the information-seeking behaviour of infertile couples.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Couples seeking infertility treatment are generally hungry for information about available therapeutic options and how to help themselves achieve pregnancy. This study examined couples' perceptions of the information available from various sources in the context of achieved pregnancy or continuing treatment. METHODS A 3 year prospective interview study started in April 2004, following couples undergoing infertility treatment at a tertiary fertility clinic at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. Fifty-four couples were invited to participate. Up to three semi-structured interviews took place, and were analysed thematically using a variation of grounded theory. RESULTS Twenty-seven couples agreed to participate and of the 25 couples followed up, 11 were diagnosed with unexplained infertility. The age range of the women was 22-41 years. All hoped to be given information on helping themselves to achieve pregnancy, spontaneous or assisted, and 19 of the 25 couples became pregnant. Most couples were dissatisfied with the written and verbal information routinely provided by the fertility clinic because it suggested lifestyle changes they had already attempted to adopt. They sought additional information from the internet, books and magazines. Those who became pregnant were generally empowered by the experience and thought that it had helped them to conceive. Women who were still undergoing treatment however, sometimes became distressed, blaming themselves for failing to follow the lifestyle advice provided. CONCLUSIONS Couples, especially those diagnosed with unexplained infertility, seek information to help themselves conceive, but only those who succeed find it an empowering experience.
The identification of pregnant women with renal colic who may need surgical intervention

Abstract:Background: Renal colic is a surgical emergency in pregnancy that is caused by a range of non-obstetric factors and known to occur more frequently during the second and third trimesters. Several studies have reported that up to 70-80% of stones pass spontaneously during pregnancy. There are some patients will not pass their stones and will ultimately require surgical intervention. Through retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 212 pregnant women with renal colic, the predictive factors of pregnant women with renal colic in need of surgical intervention were determined. Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 212 pregnant women presenting with renal colic between 1st January 2009 and 31st December 2020. Univariate and multivariate analyses identified a range of predictive variables for surgical intervention. In addition, we used receiver operating characteristic curve analysis to evaluate the predictive power of our model and created a nomogram for clinical application. Results: Of the 212 patients presenting with acute renal colic in pregnancy, 100 patients (47.2%) underwent surgical intervention and 112 patients (52.8%) were treated conservatively. Univariate analysis identified significant differences between the two groups with regards to fever, the duration of pain, white blood cells, C-reactive protein, ureteral stone size, hydronephrosis, and stone location. Multivariate analysis further identified a number of independent predictors for surgical intervention, including fever, a duration of pain ≥ 4 days, a ureteral stone size ≥ 8 mm, and moderate or severe hydronephrosis. Conclusions: We identified several independent predictors for surgical intervention for renal colic in pregnancy. Fever, a duration of pain ≥ 4 days, a ureteral stone size ≥ 8 mm, and moderate/severe hydronephrosis, play significant roles in predicting surgical intervention. Our nomogram can help to calculate the probability of surgical intervention in a simple and efficient manner. Prospective studies are now required to validate our model.

Abstract:Objective: Clinical presentation of ureteral stones during pregnancy is generally with renal colic pain. The aim of this study is to present our experience in the management of renal colic during pregnancy in emergency settings. Materials and methods: 208 pregnant patients who presented to emergency department with renal colic pain and underwent ureteroscopy (URS) due to failed conservative therapy were enrolled in the study. Urinary tract stones were diagnosed either with ultrasound (US) examination or during URS. Laser lithotripsy and double J (DJ) stent placement were routinely done in all patients with ureteral stones. The incidence of infective complications and premature uterine contractions (PUC) due to URS were compared. Results: No stone was identified in 36.1% (n = 75) of patients with using US and diagnostic URS. Of the remaining 133 patients, 30 (22.6%) had no stone at US but stones were diagnosed during diagnostic URS. The type of anesthesia had no significant effect on PUC. An increased risk of sepsis and PUC was found in patients with fever at the initial presentation. Interestingly, PUC was more frequent in patients with lower serum magnesium levels. There was a significant correlation with time delay until the intervention and the risk of urosepsis and PUC, individually. Conclusions: Ureteroscopy is a safe option for evaluation of pregnant patients with unresolved renal colic. According to the current findings, timing of the operation is the most important factor affecting the septic risks and abortion threat. Surgical intervention with URS must be planned as soon as possible.
Neonatal outcomes after intervention for suspected renal colic in pregnancy

Abstract:Objective: To compare neonatal outcomes following URS, stent, or PCN in pregnant women presenting with suspected renal colic. Methods: Women undergoing a procedure for suspected renal colic during pregnancy at a large multi-center institution between 2008 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed and categorized by initial intervention. Neonatal outcomes were recorded and linked to maternal and obstetric data. Groups were compared by a Kruskal-Wallis, ANOVA, or Fisher's Exact test, followed by pairwise post-hoc testing as appropriate (α = 0.05). Multivariate analyses were also conducted. Results: 95 patients were analyzed, of whom 32 were managed with PCN, 47 with stent, and 16 with URS. Maternal baseline characteristics were similar between groups, except for lower gravidity and parity in the stent group. Rates of premature delivery did not differ, but gestational age at delivery was lower in the PCN group versus the stent and URS groups (p = 0.006 and p = 0.025, respectively). Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) admission rates were higher in the PCN group versus the stent and URS groups (p = 0.006 and 0.036, respectively). Respiratory distress syndrome significantly differed between groups (p = 0.041). Neonatal birth weight, Apgar scores, and other complications did not significantly differ. Conclusion: This study demonstrated higher rates of NICU admissions and lower gestational age at delivery for neonates born to mothers managed with PCN compared to stent and URS. Larger multi-institutional studies are warranted to further explore these associations.

Abstract:Introduction: The aims of this narrative review was to report on the contemporary data of renal colic (RC) in terms of epidemiology and pressure on emergency structures and also to describe the latest therapeutic developments about uncomplicated RC, depending on the pediatric, adult and pregnancy population. Material and methods: A request to the health surveillance network for emergencies and deaths (SurSaUD®, Santé Publique France) revealed original data on the contemporary epidemiology of renal colic. A narrative synthesis of the articles (French, English) available on the Pubmed database was produced in June 2021. Results: Renal colic represents 1.1% of the annual total of emergency room visits. The mean age at admission was 45 years and 62% of patients were men. NSAIDs and Paracetamol are the most effective analgesic treatments and should be given priority over opioids. Non-drug analgesic treatments by tactile stimulation probably have a place in the CN management, particularly in case of contraindications. Among the validated treatments, alphablockers allow better expulsion when the stone is located in the pelvic ureter and if its size is between 5 and 10mm in diameter. In pregnant women, the predominant problem is to confirm the diagnostic. If there is a strong suspicion, MRI or a low-dose CT scan is possible. Ureteroscopy is feasible in particular in the first part of pregnancy to avoid iterative ureteral catheter changes. The care for children is now based on that of adults. Conclusion: The renal colic care pathway in 2021 can benefit from various optimizations in the field of expulsion and analgesic treatments. Good knowledge of the specific situations in pregnant women and children allowing to improve the quality of care.
Surgical management of obstructing ureteral stones during pregnancy: A systematic review of different techniques

Abstract:Introduction: Renal colic is the most common non-obstetric cause of abdominal pain during pregnancy and is associated with a higher risk of complications in these women. When invasive treatment is required, options are temporary drainage with ureteral stent (JJ) or percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN), or immediate definitive treatment with ureteroscopy (URS). Our goal was to review the safety and efficacy of these procedures in treating urolithiasis during pregnancy. Methods: Adhering to the PRISMA checklist guidelines, we searched PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases for articles on the efficacy and complications of the three procedures in pregnant women. The quality of evidence and risk of bias were evaluated using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme and the Institute of Health Economics tools. Results: We included 45 articles, totaling 3424 interventions in pregnant women - 2188 URS, 719 JJ, and 517 PCN. URS was the most assessed procedure, with stone-free rates comparable to the non-pregnant patients. The most frequent complications were lower urinary symptoms and infections independently of the intervention. Obstetric complications for all interventions included 167 cases of preterm labor, resulting in 24 premature births. No statistically significant differences in post-operative complications were reported between the procedures in the few comparative studies. Conclusions: Despite the absence of high-quality studies, current evidence suggests that URS, JJ, and PCN are all safe and effective during pregnancy. As most patients submitted to temporary drainage require a second procedure post-delivery, primary URS appears more efficient. Therefore, it is the preferred option unless there are indications for temporary drainage.
Incidence of kidney stones in pregnancy and associations with adverse obstetrical outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis of 4.7 million pregnancies

Abstract:Background: Renal stones are a common cause of non-obstetrical abdominal pain in pregnant women. Though the management of renal stones in pregnancy is challenging, it remains unclear how the incidence of kidney stones may affect the course of pregnancy and delivery. Objective: To determine the incidence of renal stones in pregnancy and its impact on adverse obstetrical outcomes. Data sources: We conducted a systematic literature search of three databases: Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, and EBSCO CINAHL Plus. After the selection of articles, an additional hand-search of their citations was completed to maximize sensitivity. Databases were examined from the last four decades (19 March 1970) up to the search date (19 March 2020). Study eligibility criteria: Articles were excluded if they were not relevant to kidney stones or did not report outcomes related to pregnancy. Case reports, animal studies, and cadaveric studies were excluded. Conference abstracts, gray literature, and unpublished data were not eligible. Study appraisal and synthesis methods: All screening, extraction, and synthesis were completed in duplicate with two independent reviewers. All outcomes reported in the included studies were systematically evaluated to determine suitability for meta-analysis. Random-effects models and sensitivity analyses were used to account for interstudy variation. Renal stone incidence rates were pooled to generate summary proportions. Risk of bias assessment was completed using the Risk of Bias Assessment tool for Non-randomized Studies. Results: Twenty-one studies were included through systematic review and approximately 4.7 million pregnancies across nine studies were included for meta-analysis. There are three major findings of this review regarding renal stone incidence in pregnancy and maternal, child, and birth-related outcomes associated with renal stones. First, we found pooled incidence of renal stones was 0.49%, or one case for every 204 pregnancies. Second, renal stones during pregnancy were significantly associated with the development of preeclampsia and urinary tract infection, as well as increased likelihood of low birth weight, preterm labor, and C-section deliveries. However, renal stones were not significantly associated with premature rupture of membranes or infant mortality. Third, there were limited obstetrical complications reported with either medical or surgical therapies although comparative outcomes were not provided in the majority of studies, precluding formal meta-analysis. Conclusions: Although renal stones in pregnancy are relatively rare, there may be an associated risk of serious adverse obstetrical outcomes. However, further research is required to understand whether these obstetrical outcomes are causal or due to other confounders. Interdisciplinary care and pregnancy-specific counseling should be advised for pregnant women with kidney stones.
Maternal and Fetal Prognosis in Pregnant Women with Renal Disease Associating Urinary Tract Infection

Abstract:Background: Pregnancy related acute renal injury is a challenging diagnosis, mainly due to, among other factors, the physiological decrease in blood nitrogen retention parameters. As a consequence, the criteria required to establish the diagnosis may be first met as a result of the complications that appear, especially hypertension. The maternal and fetal complications which may occur in pregnancies with renal failure can be worsened by the relative immunodeficiency during pregnancy, which represents an elusive mechanism that is associated with a high risk of urinary tract infection (UTI). Therefore, the risk for intensive care unit admission, or developing sepsis, or preterm birth can increase. Objectives: The present study aims to investigate whether the superimposition of UTI over an altered renal function leads to a worsened maternal and fetal prognosis. Patients and methods: We performed an observational retrospective study that included pregnant women with increased serum creatinine levels, both with and without UTI. Thus, we analyzed 47 pregnant women who delivered in our unit between 1 January 2021 and 1 September 2023. Patients were divided into three groups: an acute renal injury (AKI) group (n=16), a chronic kidney disease (CKD) group (n=8) and a control group (n=23) which included patients with serum creatinine levels between 0.80-1 mg/dL. We evaluated the maternal and fetal complications in all three groups, taking into consideration the comparison between maternal and fetal parameters in women with UTI. Results: Our study highlighted an important difference between fetal weight at delivery by patients with AKI associating UTI and the two remaining groups (1395 ± 992.50 grams compared to 2340 grams in the CKD group and 3103.33±83.86 grams in the control group, respectively). There was no statistically significant difference regarding preterm birth, intrauterine grow restriction, stillbirth or neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission. Preterm birth had a higher incidence in all patients with AKI (87.5% compared to 50% and 34.78%, respectively). Conclusion: Neonatal complications are important in pregnant women with AKI and CKD, irrespective of the UTI diagnosis. Most fetal complications occurred in patients diagnosed with AKI. The correlations highlighted by us should be studied further.

Abstract:Introduction: Anesthesia choice during the procedural management of suspected renal colic during pregnancy may vary based on available resources and patient or provider preferences, as there are no specific recommendations. Our objective was to evaluate whether preterm birth (<37 weeks) was associated with anesthesia type, anesthesia timing by trimester, or procedure type. Methods: We retrospectively identified pregnant patients who required procedural management with ureteral stent, percutaneous nephrostomy (PCN), or ureteroscopy (URS) for suspected renal colic based on laboratory and imaging findings from 2009–2021 at our center. Analyzed data included anesthesia type (local analgesia only, monitored anesthesia care [MAC], spinal anesthesia, or general anesthesia), trimester of procedure, procedure type, and obstetric outcomes including preterm birth. Results: The study cohort included 96 patients who underwent 231 total procedures, including primary URS, PCN, stent, as well as PCN and stent change. The median gestational age was 38.7 (37.1–39.5) weeks, and preterm birth rate was 15.8%. The most common anesthetic used across all procedures and trimesters was MAC. PCN was associated with the use of less invasive analgesia or anesthesia, whereas endoscopic procedures were more commonly performed with spinal or general anesthesia. Using multivariable logistic regression, procedure type was associated with preterm birth, but not anesthesia type or timing by trimester. Conclusions: Anesthesia type and timing were not associated with preterm birth, and selection may be influenced by resources, clinical scenario, or patient and provider preferences.

Abstract:The use of cooling, without using adequate hygienic practices in primary milk production, allows for the growth of psychrotrophic microorganisms that produce the thermoresistant lipases that give milk a rancid flavor. This study aimed to verify how the variation in temperature influences the lipolytic metabolism of the psychrotrophic organisms. Samples of raw milk were collected and submitted to laboratorial analysis as follows: psychrotrophic bacteria count, lipolytic bacteria count, and free fatty acids dosage. Each sample was divided into 3 aliquots and then incubated at 4, 8, and 12 °C, respectively. For each temperature, analyses were repeated after 12, 24, and 48 h of storage. Despite the psychrotrophs growth increase, according to temperature rise, the lipolytic metabolism was not consistent and presented the lower index at 8 °C, suggesting an intensification of the proteolytic compensatory activity at this temperature.
Urolithiasis in pregnancy: Advances in imaging modalities and evaluation of current trends in endourological approaches

Abstract:Objective: Given the challenges involved in diagnosis and treatment of pregnant women with urolithiasis, we aim to review the imaging modalities and current endourological management of these patients. Materials and methods: We performed a review of the available literature on urolithiasis in pregnancy. This included evaluation, diagnostic imaging, and therapeutic options. The databases we searched from included Google Scholar and PubMed. A total of 346 abstracts were screened. After our inclusion/exclusion criteria were met, we were left with 42 sources: 18 retrospective studies, 10 reviews/meta-analyses, 8 sets of guidelines, 5 randomized control trials, and 1 prospective cohort. Results: We begin our review with the literature available on the safety and efficacy of imaging modalities in the surgical planning for urolithiasis in pregnant patients. This includes renal ultrasound, abdominal x-ray, computed tomography scan, and magnetic resonance imaging. While computed tomography may result in an added radiation exposure, with possible safety concerns, magnetic resonance imaging seems to be safer, however a less sensitive test. We next describe safety, efficacy, and outcomes of various surgical interventions for urolithiasis in pregnant patients. This encompasses ureteral stenting, percutaneous nephrostomy, ureteroscopy, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Ureteroscopy is a safer approach, but percutaneous nephrolithotomy offers higher stone-free rates. Using an evidence-based approach, we propose an algorithm for management of the pregnant women with renal colic. Conclusion: Management of the pregnant women with suspected urolithiasis is a unique challenge for healthcare providers. A multi-disciplinary approach should be taken to optimize outcomes through an evidence-based approach.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: To review systematically current literature on kidney function changes during pregnancy, in order to estimate the extent of adaptation over the course of both healthy physiological and complicated singleton pregnancies, and to determine healthy pregnancy reference values.METHODS: PubMed (NCBI) and EMBASE (Ovid) electronic databases were searched, from inception to July 2017, for studies on kidney function during uncomplicated and complicated pregnancies. Included studies were required to report a non-pregnant reference value of kidney function (either in a non-pregnant control group or as a prepregnancy or postpartum measurement) and a pregnancy measurement at a predetermined and reported gestational age. Kidney function measures assessed were glomerular filtration rate (GFR) measured by inulin clearance, GFR measured by creatinine clearance and serum creatinine level. Pooled mean differences between pregnancy measurements and reference values were calculated for predefined intervals of gestational age in uncomplicated and complicated pregnancies using a random-effects model described by DerSimonian and Laird.RESULTS: Twenty-nine studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. As early as the first trimester, GFR was increased by up to 40-50% in physiological pregnancy when compared with non-pregnant values. Inulin clearance in uncomplicated pregnancy was highest at 36-41 weeks, with a 55.6% (53.7; 95% CI, 44.7-62.6 mL/min) increase when compared with non-pregnant values, and creatinine clearance was highest at 15-21 weeks' gestation, with a 37.6% (36.6; 95% CI, 26.2-46.9 mL/min) increase. Decrease in serum creatinine level in uncomplicated pregnancy was most prominent at 15-21 weeks, with a 23.2% (-0.19; 95% CI, -0.23 to -0.15 mg/dL) decrease when compared with non-pregnant values. Eight studies reported on pregnancies complicated by a hypertensive disorder. Meta-regression analysis showed a significant difference in all kidney function parameters when comparing uncomplicated and hypertensive complicated pregnancies.CONCLUSIONS: In healthy pregnancy, GFR is increased as early as the first trimester, as compared with non-pregnant values, and the kidneys continue to function at a higher rate throughout gestation. In contrast, kidney function is decreased in hypertensive pregnancy. © 2018 The Authors. Abstract:Background and Objective: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common problem in pregnancy but adverse cardio-renal outcomes following AKI in pregnancy has not been systematically evaluated. We aimed to quantify the risk of adverse cardio-renal outcomes of AKI in pregnancy. Method: A literature search was conducted on MEDLINE, Cochrane library and EMBASE from inception until January 2024. The titles, abstracts and full studies were separately screened by two reviewers. Studies were included if they considered pregnant women with AKI, compared them to pregnant women without AKI and included predetermined renal or cardiac outcomes. References from relevant systematic reviews were included if they met the inclusion criteria. Data was independently collected by two reviewers. Any discrepancy was addressed by a third author. The data was analysed using Revman 5. Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale was used for quality assessment. Results: We included 17 studies. There is a significantly increased risk of maternal mortality (OR 9.70, 95% CI 3.49, 26.97), ICU admission (OR 3.86, 95% CI 1.93, 7.71), stroke (OR 22.92, 95% CI 2.32, 226.65), thrombotic microangiopathy (OR 9.62, 95% CI 1.57, 57.67), heart failure (OR 22.55, 95% CI 4.39, 115.71) and need for dialysis (OR 408.99, 95% CI 1.23, 135716.45) in pregnant women with AKI compared to women without AKI. Furthermore, there is an increased risk of composite renal disease (chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapy and end-stage renal failure (OR 52.37, 95% CI 4.67, 587.63) and composite cardiovascular disease (OR 20.6, 95% CI 14.7, 28.9) amongst pregnant patients with AKI compared to non-AKI patients. The composite outcomes are compiled using follow-up data over at least 1 year or more and reflect long-term outcomes. Conclusions: We show that AKI in pregnancy is associated with adverse cardio-renal outcomes. Therefore, careful monitoring and follow-up of patients with AKI in pregnancy are needed to improve the cardio-renal outcomes of this high-risk group of women.

Risk factors of uterine contraction after ureteroscopy in pregnant women with renal colic

Abstract:Background: Ureteroscopy is widely applied in pregnant women with renal colic, but such patients are easy to experience uterine contraction after surgery. There are many factors which may affect uterine contraction, this study aims to explore the risk factors of uterine contraction triggered by ureteroscopy in pregnant women with renal colic. Methods: One hundred and one pregnant women were retrospectively analyzed, the patients were hospitalized because of severe renal colic. All patients received ureteroscopy during which double J catheters were inserted into ureters for drainage. Patients received other medical treatments individually according to their condition and uterine contractions were detected by EHG within 12 h after operation. Patients were classified as group A (uterine contraction) and group B (no uterine contraction) according to the presence or absence of continuously regular uterine contraction. Clinical characteristics were collected for further analysis, including history of childbirth, anesthesia method, application of phloroglucinol or not, operation time, Oxygen inhalation or not, pain relief or not after surgery, systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) occurred or not. A binary logistic regression analysis model was established to explore whether such clinical characteristics were relevant to uterine contraction after ureteroscopy. Results: Continuously regular uterine contraction presented in 46 pregnant women within 12 h after ureteroscopy, making the incidence of uterine contraction as high as 45.54%. The presence of uterine contraction was related to the following factors(P < 0.05): history of childbirth (primipara versus multipara)(OR 6.593, 95% CI 2.231-19.490), operation time (each quarter additional) (OR 2.385, 95% CI 1.342-4.238), application of phloroglucinol (yes versus not) (OR 6.959, 95% CI 1.416-34.194), pain relief after surgery(yes versus not)(OR 6.707, 95% CI 1.978-22.738), SIRS occurred after surgery (yes versus not) (OR 0.099, 95% CI 0.014-0.713). Conclusion: Continuously regular uterine contraction is easy to occur within 12 h after ureteroscopy in pregnant women. SIRS occurred after surgery is a risk factor for uterine contraction; on the contrary, no history of childbirth, shorter operation time, application of phloroglucinol, pain relief after surgery are protective factors.

Abstract:Background: Pregnancy involves complex hemodynamic and immune adaptations to support the developing fetus. The kidney assumes a pivotal role in orchestrating these mechanisms. However, renal disease poses a potential risk for adverse maternal–fetal outcomes. While kidney function, hypertension, and proteinuria are recognized as key influencers of risk, the mere presence of glomerular disease, independent of these factors, may wield significant impact. Methods: A brief review of the existing literature was conducted to synthesize current knowledge regarding the interplay between glomerulonephritis and pregnancy. Results: The review underscores the centrality of the kidney in the context of pregnancy and highlights the role of glomerular disease, particularly when active. It emphasizes multifaceted risk modulators, including kidney function, hypertension, and proteinuria. Conclusion: Understanding the dynamics between pregnancy and glomerulonephritis is crucial for optimizing maternal and fetal outcomes. Preconception counseling and collaborative nephro-gynecological management emerge as pivotal components in addressing the unique challenges posed by this medical interplay.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Pregnancy with renal colic may cause pyelonephritis, decreased renal function, systemic infection and even shock in pregnant women, and cause premature birth and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. When surgery is necessary, the relationship between timing of the operation and the outcome of the mother and child are not known.AIM: To investigate the association between time to ureteral stent placement and clinical outcomes of patients with renal colic during pregnancy.METHODS: In this retrospective study, pregnant women with renal colic who underwent surgery were studied. Maternal preoperative acute pyelonephritis (PANP), pregnancy outcome, and length of hospital stay (LOS) were compared between the two groups.RESULTS: 100 patients were included in the analysis, median age was 30 years. Median time to ureteral stent placement was 48 h (interquartile range, 25-96 h), and 32 patients (32%) were diagnosed with PANP. PANP was closely related to hospitalization costs, re-admission to the hospital due to urinary tract infection after surgery and premature delivery. Multivariate analysis found that stone location and time from pain to admission were related to PANP.CONCLUSION: Both early and delayed surgery are safe and effective for the treatment of renal colic during pregnancy. Early surgery may be superior to a delayed procedure due to shorter LOS. For pregnant patients with renal colic, delayed surgery within 48 h is not related to the clinical outcome of the mother and child. However, the time from pain to hospital admission was related to PANP.
