Abstract:Abstract In this paper, microstructure evlution, hardness and tensile properties of Cu-15Ni-8Sn-(0.5Al) alloys during aging at 500°C were investigated in detail. The results showed that the grain was refined and the elongation of alloy at solid solution was improved with the additon.of Al. The DO22 ordered phase was suppressed during aging in the Cu-15Ni-8Sn-0.5Al alloy, while the L12 ordered phase stability was significantly improved. Therefore, the L12 ordered phase was not consumed by the discontinuous precipitation (DP) reaction during the prolonged aging process, which effectively suppressed the development of DP and improved the resistance to over-aging of the alloy. However, Al also leads to a serious decrease in the plasticity of Cu-15Ni-8Sn alloys, which has no yield point during tensile process after aging for 1h.

Abstract:This work presents a comparison of microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of naturally aged (NA) and artificially aged (AA) alloys after two years of storage. The results showed that numerous finer precipitates distributed in NA alloys, resulting in better mechanical response but higher corrosion sensitivity, while the microstructure of AA alloys were almost the same as two years before, the tensile results showed the initial necking phenomenon but limited elongation caused by presence of coarse precipitates and high-density dislocations, whilst its corrosion resistance was better than NA alloys, reflecting from smaller pits and more protective components of corrosion products. Natural Aging Behaviors and Mechanisms of 7050 and 5A90 Al Alloys: A Comparative Study

Abstract:The natural aging (NA) behaviors within 24 h of 7050 (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu) and 5A90 (Al-Mg-Li) aluminum (Al) alloys are investigated comparatively. The strikingly different evolution rules of mechanical properties and microstructures of the above two materials are characterized using tensile strength tests and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), then the mechanisms are revealed based on the analysis of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and the calculation of precipitation activation energy. It is found that the NA rate of 7050 Al alloy is pronounced in the initial stage (after quenching), and decreases dramatically from 0 h to 20 h of NA, resulting in remarkable evolution of the microstructures and mechanical properties. In contrary, 5A90 Al alloy is stable and the effect of NA is not evident. DSC analysis indicates that the activation energy of the initial precipitate (GP zones) for 7050 Al alloy is nearly 74.3 KJ/mol, while that of the initial precipitate (delta' phase) for 5A90 Al alloy is nearly 103.6 KJ/mol. Owing to the low activation energy, acicular GP zones precipitate in the matrix of 7050 Al alloy within the first 4 h of NA, causing a dramatic increase in strength. The precipitates continue to grow with increasing aging time, albeit at a slower rate and with reduced influence on mechanical strength. Whereas, the strength of the 5A90 Al alloy remains hardly changed due to the higher activation energy. It is noted that, for 7050 Al alloy, the NA induced decreasing of the solute atomic concentration makes the initial remarkable Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect weaken gradually with aging time. While for the 5A90 AI alloy, the PLC effect remains little changed all the time since NA phenomenon does not occur in this alloy. It is recommended that the as-quenched 7050 Al alloys should be exposed at room temperature for more than 20 h or refrigerated before practical processing.

Abstract:A remarkable natural aging (NA) hardening response induced by pre-strain treatment, i.e. an evident increment of flow stress from ~138 MPa to ~163 MPa within only 48h, was observed in a dilute Mg–1.0Zn–0.45Ca–0.33Sn–0.2Mn (wt.%, ZXTM1000) alloy sheet. The pre-strain deformation introduces profuse basal <a> dislocations and supersaturated non-equilibrium vacancies, favoring the solute diffusion process and therefore resulting in a heterogeneous solute distribution for energy minimization. The retarded dislocation movement by co-segregation of Zn and Ca atoms is responsible for the strengthening effect. This work sheds light on the appreciable NA phenomenon previously unexpected in dilute Mg alloys assisted by the introduction of crystal defects, and the associated microstructure evolutions at ambient temperature provide a novel strategy for the design of high-performance low-cost Mg alloys.

Solute cluster evolution during deformation and high strain hardening capability in naturally aged Al–Zn–Mg alloy

Abstract:The natural aging (NA) response of a commercial Al-Zn-Mg alloy has been tracked to investigate the effects of solute clusters on its mechanical properties. It has been observed that the increase of yield strength during NA is not accompanied by the degradation of uniform elongation due to the simultaneously enhanced strain hardening ability. As a consequence, the Al-Zn-Mg alloy with dense solute clusters shows a comparable yield strength, better strain hardening ability and uniform tensile strain relative to its artificially aged counterparts containing precipitates. This positive effect of solute clusters on strain hardening has been systematically studied by tracing the microstructure evolution during deformation through synchrotron X-ray diffraction and atom probe tomography. We found that the dislocation multiplication dominates over the entire deformation process until failure in NA alloys; however, no effect of solute clusters on the dislocation density evolution can be identified. On the other hand, solute clusters themselves dramatically evolve, showing a dissolution-to-coarsening transition during deformation, which can be understood on the basis of a kinetic model. The experimental evidence strongly suggest that the dislocation storage and strain-induced evolution of solute clusters are insufficient to account for the observed high strain hardening rate, and the contribution from other possible mechanisms are estimated in a semi-quantitative manner.

Abstract:The influence of Si addition on the artificial aging (AA) response of multicomponent Mg-10Sn-3Al-1Si (wt.%) alloy has been systematically investigated. Scanning electron microscopy investigation reveals that variation in aging duration for 100 h and 500 h at 200 °C alters the morphology and distribution of nanoscale rod- or lath-like Mg 17 Al 12 precipitates, without any alternation in the size of micro-meter size intermetallic β -Mg 2 Sn precipitates. Besides, no gradual drop in the hardness value even after aging for 500 h at 200 °C predicting its superior thermal stability, which is attributed due to the precipitates of β -Mg 2 Sn along the grain boundaries (GBs). In addition, alteration of the nanoscale Mg 17 Al 12 precipitates distribution at the GB regions induces moderate age hardening and recovers its tensile properties. Comprehensive characterization suggests that during tensile loading in 100-h AA alloy, DP-type Mg 17 Al 12 precipitates near GBs, resulting strain localization near GBs which leads to premature GB failure. However, prolonged aging for 500 h suppresses the formation of CP-type Mg 17 Al 12 precipitates at the GBs and leads to precipitate inside the grain, thereby reduces strain localization during tensile loading and somewhat recovers ductility. These results can come up with new hints for controlling the deleterious effect of AA at high temperature and provide new guidelines for designing multicomponent high-performance Mg- alloys.

Abstract:The effects of aging treatment at 190 °C for 6, 12, 18, and 36 h on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and damping properties of multipass rolled Mg-1.2Al-0.4Ca-0.3Mn-0.3Zn magnesium alloy plates were investigated. The results show that after aging treatment, the number of precipitated phases in the Mg-1.2Al-0.4Ca-0.3Mn-0.3Zn alloy increases, which are mainly Al 2 Mn and Al-Ca phases, and are concentrated at the grain boundaries. The size of the second phase at the grain boundaries grew as the elongation time increased, and some of the second phase underwent reverse dissolution, which reduced the alloy's characteristics. The Mg-1.2Al-0.4Ca-0.3Mn-0.3Zn alloy plates after multipass rolling were aged at 190 °C/6 h to obtain the best overall mechanical properties, with tensile strength and elongation of 224.2 MPa and 14.2%. In the low strain amplitude region, the damping of the material mainly comes from the friction between the defects, and there is no significant change in the damping value. In the high strain amplitude region, the Q 1 values in the rolled state and aging time of 6, 12, 18, and 36 h at a strain amplitude of 0.1% were 0.01083, 0.01741, 0.01202, 0.01298, and 0.01467. The second phase precipitated by the aging treatment acted as a strong pinning point resulting in dislocations that were not easy to be de-pinned enhanced the damping performance.

Abstract:To facilitate the processing and manufacturing of heat-treatable aluminum alloy components, the initial temper of the billet material is usually adjusted to the as-quenched (AQ) temper by solid solution treatment. However, for most as-quenched aluminum alloys, the obvious natural aging (NA) may occur and cause sensitive time scheduling for the subsequent forming processes. Taking the 2195 Al-Cu-Li alloy as the case material, from the aspects of Portevin-Le-Chatelier (PLC) effect, properties and microstructure evolution, this study deeply and systematically explores the NA behaviors and reveals the underlying mechanism. The combined interaction of Cu and Li solute atoms with mobile dislocations is the major mechanism for the PLC effect in this alloy. The NA induced decreasing of the interaction of solutes with the dislocations makes the number of dislocations in the PLC bands reduce, resulting in its character to change from type B to type A during NA. The Al-Cu-Li alloy exhibits a strong response at the early stage of NA, viz., the tensile strength increases rapidly in the initial 4 h and then reaches the plateau 24 h later. Major sources of strengthening in the NA state are the δ′/β' precipitates, GP zones and solute atoms. The extended age hardening model were used to predict the evolution of the YS and microstructure variables of the alloy during NA. The results indicate that the contribution of solute atoms (σ ss ), δ′/β' precipitates (σ δ′) and GP zones (σ GP ) to strength in NA state is ~161 MPa, ~80 MPa, and ~ 141 MPa, respectively. The electrochemical measurement results indicate that the NA state has a higher corrosion resistance than the AQ state. The pitting pores form associating with the negative potential of the spherical δ′ phase in NA state.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline (NC) structure can lead to the considerable strengthening of metals and alloys. Obtaining appropriate comprehensive mechanical properties is always the goal of metallic materials. Here, a nanostructured Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Zr-Sc alloy was successfully processed by high-pressure torsion (HPT) followed by natural aging. The microstructures and mechanical properties of the naturally aged HPT alloy were analyzed. The results show that the naturally aged HPT alloy primarily consists of nanoscale grains (~98.8 nm), nano-sized precipitates (20–28 nm in size), and dislocations (1.16 × 1015 m−2), and exhibits a high tensile strength of 851 ± 6 MPa and appropriate elongation of 6.8 ± 0.2%. In addition, the multiple strengthening modes that were activated and contributed to the yield strength of the alloy were evaluated according to grain refinement strengthening, precipitation strengthening, and dislocation strengthening, and it is shown that grain refinement strengthening and precipitation strengthening are the main strengthening mechanisms. The results of this study provide an effective pathway for achieving the optimal strength–ductility match of materials and guiding the subsequent annealing treatment.

Abstract:The high strength Al–Zn–Mg plates were processed by combing the hot extrusion and cold rolling. Then, both the artificial aging and annealing were conducted to make a comparative study on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. The aged samples were composed of near-equiaxed grains attributed from the static recrystallization during solution process, and owned the main textures of Cube, Goss, Copper, S, and Brass. The precipitate followed the sequence of SSS → GP zone → η′ phase → η phase. With the increase of aging time, the grain boundary precipitations (GBPs) became coarse and discontinuous, and the width of precipitate free zones (PFZs) also increased. In annealed samples, the coarse and elongated grains were finally formed, and the volume fraction of recrystallization textures increased with the extension of annealing time. Moreover, the density of dislocations and the number of MgZn2 phase were both reduced during annealing. The tensile strength along 0° with rolling direction was always the highest in all aged and annealed samples, and the elongation achieved the highest values along 45°. Long-time aging slightly improved the planar anisotropy, while long-time annealing greatly improved the planar anisotropy. The peak aged sample showed a ductility loss of 21.96% during the slow strain rate test in 3.5 wt% NaCl, and a maximum depth of 214.59 μm in intergranular corrosion test. Compared to the annealed sample, the aged one exhibited the worse corrosion resistance due to the wide PFZs and continuously distributed GBPs.

Experimental and Simulation Study for the Influence of Thermal Pre-Deformation on Subsequent Aging Precipitation Kinetics of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloy

Abstract:Deformation and heat treatment are important means to strengthen aluminum alloys. However, the influence mechanism of pre-strain on aging precipitation kinetics and its effect on mechanical properties are still not clear. In this work, uniaxial isothermal tensile tests with different strains and artificial aging treatments for Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys have been carried out. Then, a model describing the precipitates kinetic behavior has been developed to investigate the effect of thermal pre-strain on subsequent aging precipitation kinetics and peak aging microhardness based on the microstructure characterization by TEM, SAXS and XRD tests. In addition, the role of dislocations on the aging precipitation kinetics is also explored. The experimental results show that the peak aging microhardness of the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloy reveals a tendency to decrease and increase and then the peak aging time firstly decreases and then keeps almost constant with the increase in the strain. The calculations demonstrate that the precipitate average size almost remains unchanged, while the precipitate volume fraction decreases and then increases with the increase in strain, which is consistent with the change in peak aging microhardness. It also indicates that dislocations can promote precipitate nucleation and growth, while the actual effect depends on the dislocation density, which is closely dependent on the pre-deformation condition, especially for the precipitate nucleation. In particular, when the dislocation density after thermal pre-deformation is not enough, it will slightly inhibit precipitate nucleation but promote precipitate growth, which could shorten the peak aging time, with the peak aging strength being guaranteed.
Natural Aging Effect of Al-20Zn-3Cu Alloy on Mechanical Properties and Its Relation to Microstructural Change

Abstract:We investigate the effect of the natural age-hardening response of the Al-20Zn-3Cu alloy with natural aging times up to 12 months. The ultimate tensile strength of the Al-20Zn-3Cu alloy is drastically enhanced from 308 to 320 MPa after 2 months and from 320 to 346 MPa after 9 months. Then, natural age hardening becomes saturated after 9 months. A microstructural investigation reveals that the natural age-hardening mechanism is mainly induced by the diffusion of the Zn element. First, a rapid decrease in the volume fraction of the eutectoid lamellae (α-Al+η-Zn) is observed at the early stage of natural aging, leading to an increase in the tensile strength. This originates from the relatively high diffusivity of Zn due to its low melting temperature. Then, the diffusion of Zn into the Al matrix induces clusters of solute atoms that enhance the growth rate of the nanoprecipitates formed in the Al matrix. As a consequence, the tensile strength of the natural-aged Al-20Zn-3Cu alloy increases drastically after 9 months, whereas the ductility is significantly degraded.

Abstract:Puberty is a time of rapid change, including a marked increase in fat consumption and body fat accrual, particularly in females. The mechanisms underlying these changes are unknown. Building on the results obtained in adult rats, the present study in pubertal rats focused on the orexigenic peptides, galanin (GAL) and enkephalin (ENK), in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) and medial preoptic nucleus (MPN), which are known to be responsive to female steroids and have a role in both energy balance and reproductive function. The present study examined female rats maintained on pure macronutrient diets from before weaning (day 15) to day 70. After an initial burst in protein intake (days 21–35), rats showed an increase, specifically in preference for fat, from 15% to 30%. In rats examined at different ages before (day 30) and after (days 45 and 60) puberty, this rise in fat intake was associated with a marked increase, from days 30–45, in levels of oestradiol and progesterone and in GAL and ENK mRNA or peptide levels, specifically in the PVN and MPN, but not other hypothalamic areas examined. This positive relationship with increased fat intake, steroids and peptides across ages was also observed when comparing pubertal rats that naturally preferred fat (> 25% of total diet) with those consuming little fat (< 15%) or rats that reached puberty at an early age (days 30–34) with those that were late (days 37–40). These rats with early puberty onset exhibited a strong fat preference 3–4 days before vaginal opening, which was positively related to steroid levels, GAL, fat intake and body fat accrual after puberty. These findings suggest that, in addition to providing a signal for puberty onset, early fat ingestion acting through mechanisms involving the steroids and orexigenic peptides may be related to long‐term patterns of eating and body weight regulation.
EFFECT OF PRE-DEFORMATION ON AGE- HARDENING AND MICROSTRUCTURE IN Al-Mg-Si-Cu ALLOY

Abstract:The 6××× series aluminum alloys Al-Mg-Si-Cu are widely used in the transportation and building industries due to their comprehensive mechanical properties, adequate formability, high corrosion resistance and good weldability. For decades, ultrafine grain structure (UFG) produced by severe plastic deformation (SPD) has been proved to be a promising way in strengthening Al alloy materials. Although this method can guarantee a great improvement in strength, the obtained ductility is always disappointing. Besides, this method has a limitation to fabricate products suitable for practical use. Recently, combining deformation and aging has been proposed to pro-duce high-strength Al alloys. This strategy is very effective in achieving Al alloys with strength-ductility synergy even through conventional producing process, for example, rolling and aging. The strain ratio of deformation is crit-ical in tuning the mechanical properties which could be acquired by the above method. The effect of deformation strain ratio on the age-hardening behaviors and microstructure in Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy produced by combining cold-rolling and aging are investigated using hardness test, tensile test, EBSD and TEM in this work. The results show that the as-rolled hardness increases gradually with deformation strain ratio. The age-hardening potential declines with the increase of strain ratio, though post-aging could further strengthen the as-rolled alloys. The grains elongate along the rolling direction during deformation and finally have a lamellar structure. Fragmentation and extensive defects like sub-grain boundaries occurs inside the grains. The dislocations become denser inside the alloy with the increase of the deformation ratio. When the deformation ratio is large (above 60%), formation of dislocation tan-gling and sub-grains are observed. Deformation-induced change of the dislocation configuration affects the precipitation significantly. Due to the interaction between solutes precipitation and defects annihilation, the distribution of precipitates undergoes a change from being isolated to a continuous manner.

Effect of Natural Aging on Cold Forming Performance of 2219 Aluminum Alloy

Abstract:To facilitate the manufacturing of the thin-walled components of 2219 aluminum alloy, the quenching–forming–aging (Q–F–A) process has been increasingly utilized. However, natural aging (NA) after quenching significantly affects the cold forming performance of this alloy. In this study, experiments are conducted to investigate the effect of NA time on the cold forming performance of 2219 aluminum alloy. The results indicate that NA can weaken the Portevin–Le Chatelier (PLC) effect, thereby reducing its influence on the cold forming performance of the alloy. The PLC effect becomes indistinct when the aging time reaches 2 years. The yield strength of 2219 aluminum alloy increases monotonically with aging time, while the elongation first increases rapidly and then decreases. After an aging time of 2 years, the yield strength increases by 28.6% from that of newly quenched alloys. The strain hardening index and hardening coefficient indicate that short-term NA (less than 4 days) increases the work hardening rate, while long-term NA reduces it. Microstructural analysis shows that the strengthening effect of NA on 2219 aluminum alloy is mainly due to the growth of G.P. zones and the precipitation of θ′′ phases. The NA precipitation behavior can also cause the aggregation of solute atoms and weaken the PLC effect.

Effects of Mg/Zn ratio and pre-aging on microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Zn–Cu alloys

Abstract:The alloy composition and aging process are significant factors determining the type of precipitates in Al alloys. In this work, the effects of Mg/Zn ratio and pre-aging process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Al–Mg–Zn–Cu alloys were systematically investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), hardness measurements and tensile tests. The results show that reducing the Mg/Zn ratio significantly increases the density of T′-Mg 32 (AlZnCu) 49 precipitates, thereby enhancing and accelerating the aging response. A detailed comparison has been made between Al–Mg–Zn–Cu alloys aged by single-step and two-step artificial aging processes. With the same composition, the alloy exhibits a higher yield strength under the two-stage aging process, resulting from the higher precipitation strengthening effect (Orowan dislocation bypassing mechanism) due to the smaller size and higher density of precipitates. Furthermore, it is particularly interesting that there may be two evolution paths for GPII zones with (111) Al habit plane: one is that the GPII zones are dissolved into the matrix, and the other is that the GPII zones gradually evolve into the T′ precipitates. This work sheds some light on the precipitation sequence in Al–Mg–Zn–Cu alloys and is greatly helpful for designing age-hardening Al–Mg based alloys.

Abstract:This study investigated the influence of natural aging (NA) on the precipitation behavior of the main precipitate β′′ and hardness evolution during the subsequent artificial aging (AA) process of the precipitation strengthened A357 aluminum alloy. The corresponding mechanisms were analyzed. The results demonstrate that natural aging has adverse influence on the precipitation process during artificial aging. The underlying mechanism is that small GP zones are formed during natural aging but cannot become nucleation sites for the β′′ phase during artificial aging, which spontaneously consumes the supersaturated solute atoms in the Al matrix, increases the nucleation barrier of the β′′ phase, and also consumes the vacancies produced after solid solution and quenching, thereby reducing the nucleation rate of the β′′ phase during artificial aging, and leading to an un-expected increase in the size of the precipitated phase, thus reducing the peak aging hardness of the alloy. This effect becomes more pronounced with increasing natural aging time. Increasing the artificial aging temperature can improve the nucleation rate of the β′′ phase during artificial aging, thereby to some extent reducing the unfavorable influence of natural aging on the artificial aging by reducing the sizes and increasing the amount of the β′′ precipitates.

Abstract:The effect of large pre-deformation on the microstructural evolution and mechanical property anisotropy of large-sized Al-Zn-Mg alloy extruded profiles with thin-walls and high-ribs was investigated. The increase in pre-deformation reduces the time required for the alloy to reach peak hardness during aging at 120 °C, but leads to a decrease in peak hardness. The undeformed alloy exhibits the highest ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 527 MPa and yield strength (YS) of 497 MPa in the 90° direction, accompanied by a low elongation (EL) of 12.7 %, highlighting significant anisotropy. At a large pre-deformation of 38 %, UTS, YS, and EL dramatically fall, with IPA values of 2.43 %, 3.77 %, and 11.96 %, respectively. Increased pre-deformation promotes the formation of substructures without altering the texture type, which remains predominantly A 1 * and A 2 * textures, but reduces texture intensity. After aging treatment, the primary intragranular precipitates are η' phases, and dislocations generated by pre-deformation stimulate the heterogeneous nucleation of η' phases and their transformation to η phases. Additionally, increased pre-deformation leads to the growth and uneven distribution of precipitates and an increase in the width of the precipitate-free zones (PFZ). The reduced anisotropy is attributed to decreased texture intensity, increased dislocation substructures, higher η phase content, and expanded PFZ width. Pre-deformation between 8 % and 18 % effectively maintains mechanical properties while reducing anisotropy. These findings provide insights into optimizing pre-deformation treatments to balance mechanical properties and anisotropy in Al-Zn-Mg alloy profiles.

Abstract:The Al-Cu-Mg-Ag-Ti-B (A205) alloy has gained success in the additive manufacturing domain due to its good processibility. It is a precipitation hardening alloy, and because of this, its mechanical properties are greatly influenced by post-processing treatments. In the present work, A205 samples processed by laser powder bed fusion were first solution treated and then aged by: (i) natural aging (NA) and (ii) artificial aging (AA). The effects of different aging treatments on the microstructure and mechanical behaviour were evaluated. Both NA and AA heat treatments improved the mechanical behaviour of as-built A205 alloy. Peak hardness was achieved in 20 days (≈ 137 HV) for the NA specimen, whereas it took 4 h at 190 °C (≈ 144 HV) for the AA specimen. The average yield strength, ultimate tensile strength and elongation to fracture for NA and AA were, 276 MPa, 434 MPa, 20% and 397 MPa, 463 MPa, 11%, respectively. The structure-property corelation was analysed by evaluating various strengthening factors. Considerable grain boundary strengthening was observed in both NA and AA specimen. The major strengthening contributions in the NA specimen were due to the disordered Ag-Mg co-clusters and solid solution strengthening by Cu. In AA instead, strengthening due to the precipitation of plate-type Ω/θ'- Al 2 Cu phase was dominant. In the end, failure mechanisms in the NA and AA conditions were also briefly discussed. The laser powder fused A205 alloy demonstrated a significant response to the NA and possessed a high-ductility and good-strength combination.

Abstract:The increase in zinc content in Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloys provides an effective method to enhance the strength. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and tensile test were employed to analyze the microstructure and tensile properties, respectively, of Al–9.3Zn–2.0Mg–1.8Cu alloy (9.3Zn alloy) and Al–9.8Zn–2.0Mg–1.8Cu alloy (9.8Zn alloy) with single- and double-stage aging states. The results showed that the two alloys possessed a closed strength under single-stage peak-aging treatment. As for double-stage aging treatment, 9.8Zn alloy had a higher strength values than 9.3Zn alloy under the same aging regimes. With the second step aging time prolonging, the strength gap was extended. The main precipitates for the two alloys with single-stage peak-aging state were GP zones and η′ phase, while there were a majority of η′ phases and η phases for the two alloys under typical double-stage over-aging state. Under double-stage over-aging state, the proportion of precipitate with large size for 9.3Zn alloy was larger than that for 9.8Zn alloy. Besides, a more obvious trend was revealed for the double-stage over-aging state. The gap of strength between the two alloys was explained by the difference of precipitation characteristics via interaction mechanism between precipitates and dislocations.<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Graphic abstract</h3>
