Abstract:Background: By 2025, road traffic injuries are projected to rank third in the global burden of disease, posing a significant challenge that affects health, social well-being, and economic aspects. According to data from the Romanian Police National Statistics Center, there have been an average of 342 traffic accidents per year involving pediatric patients over the past 10 years. Materials and Methods: A retrospective research study was conducted, encompassing 358 cases of road traffic accidents identified for the study, with data collected over a span of eight years, and with the aim of analyzing the types of injury and treatment methods in relation to age and sex, while also focusing on the duration of hospitalization and the occurrence of complications. Results: An oscillating trend is observed from 2015 to 2020, with its lowest value recorded in 2017 at around 6.8% and its peak in 2019 at 20.1%. Notably, post-pandemic (COVID-19), the cases underwent a substantial decline of approximately 60%. At least 78.7% of those who did not undergo orthopedic reduction required surgery, whereas among those who underwent orthopedic reduction, only 23.4% needed surgery. Regarding the frequency of complications 17.3% of the total cases experienced complications. Conclusions: According to our findings, age has a significant effect on the type of accident (p < 0.05). Complications occurred in 17.3% of patients, most commonly surgical (24 cases, 38.7%), orthopedic (17 cases, 27.4%), and neurological (15 cases, 24.2%).

Child road traffic injury mortality in Victoria, Australia (0-14 years), the need for targeted action

Abstract:Introduction: Extensive efforts to reduce unintentional injury were enacted in the last three decades of the 20th century. Examination of road traffic injury mortality indicates the extent of fatal, unintentional child injuries (0-14 years) future interventions must address. Aims: (1) describe in-depth child road traffic injury (RTI) deaths 2001-2012 in Victoria, Australia (2) identify the potential preventability of the RTI causes by currently available countermeasures and scope for enhanced implementation and novel solutions. Method: Fatal Victorian child injury data were extracted from the National Coronial Information System (NCIS) for the 12 year period January 2001-December 2012. All on-road data was analysed. Data for passenger and pedestrian deaths was examined in depth. Associated factors were determined using univariate and pairwise analysis of factors. Published WHO key prevention strategies, and the recent literature were reviewed, focusing on the identified fatalities among children 0-14 years. Results: For 172 RTI deaths, head injury was the leading medical cause of death (68%). Significantly, the most vulnerable age group for both passengers and pedestrians was 0-4 years. Rural children were over-represented with children aged 0-4 years at greatest risk. Common factors for occupants were loss of control and veering to the incorrect side. For pedestrians the major factors related to rural residence and supervision. Discussion and conclusions: This study confirms that RTIs are complex and follow chains of events. Numerous promising interventions were identified. Wider implementation of these advanced engineering, education and enforcement strategies may further improve mortality rates in Victoria. Feasible solutions for aspects of the child pedestrian problem remain elusive. This study describes the RTI problem in greater depth than previous studies and reveals that some existing measures are not fully implemented. The need for targeted action in: 0-4 year olds; head injury; and rural regions of Victoria is highlighted. The need for a safe systems approach is paramount.
The Incidence of Brain Trauma Caused by Road Injuries: Results from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Abstract:Background: Road collisions are a significant source of traumatic brain injury (TBI). We aimed to determine the pattern of road injury related TBI (RI-TBI) incidence, as well as its temporal trends. Methods: We collected detailed information on RI-TBI between 1990 and 2019, derived from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) of RI-TBI age standardized incidence rate (ASIR), by sex, region, and cause of road injuries, were assessed to quantify the temporal trends of RI-TBI burden. Results: Globally, incident cases of RI-TBI increased 68.1% from 6,900,000 in 1990 to 11,600,000 in 2019. The overall ASIR increased by an average of 0.43% (95% CI 0.30%-0.56%) per year during this period. The ASIR of RI-TBI due to cyclist, motorcyclist and other road injuries increased between 1990 and 2019; the corresponding EAPCs were 0.56 (95% CI 0.37-0.75), 1.60 (95% CI 1.35-1.86), and 0.75 (95% CI 0.59-0.91), respectively. In contrast, the ASIR of RI-TBI due to motor vehicle and pedestrian decreased with an EAPC of -0.12 and -0.14 respectively. The changing pattern for RI-TBI was heterogeneous across countries and regions. The most pronounced increases were observed in Mexico (EAPC = 3.74), followed by China (EAPC = 2.45) and Lesotho (EAPC = 1.91). Conclusions: RI-TBI remains a major public health concern worldwide, although road safety legislations have contributed to the decreasing incidence in some countries. We found an unfavorable trend in several countries with a relatively low socio-demographic index, suggesting that much more targeted and specific approaches should be adopted in these areas to forestall the increase in RI-TBI.

Abstract:Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are a major public health problem globally and cause deaths, disability, and significant economic costs. In Italy, there was an increased number of road accidents, deaths, and injuries in 2022 compared to 2021, although still below pre-pandemic levels. A retrospective observational study was performed on a case series of 53 consecutive fatal RTAs examined by the Section of Forensic Medicine of Verona. The case series was divided, according to the type of victims involved, into pedestrians, car drivers, car passengers, and motorcyclists. For each, the times and causes of death, the distribution of external and internal injuries, and toxicological data were analysed, and the results were compared with those in the literature. Although this is a preliminary study on a small case series and lacks statistical validation, so more cases are needed, the preliminary results seem to provide a useful tool for assessing injuries in complex fatal road accidents.

Further Reductions in Road-Related Deaths and Injuries in Irish Children

Abstract:The aim was to study road-related injuries and fatalities in under 15-year-olds in three time periods (1996-2000, 2004-2008 and 2009 -2013 respectively) to assess whether progress has been made via cross-sectoral efforts (legislation, public awareness campaigns and police enforcement) to reduce this injury toll in Ireland. For road traffic collisions where an injury has occurred, police assistance is required and at the time a detailed CT 68 form is completed by the attending police officer and sent to the Road Safety Authority for analysis. Details regarding the severity of injury, light and road conditions and safety measures such as seat belt or car restraint use, seat position and helmet use if a cyclist is involved are recorded. Injuries were sub-classified as fatalities, serious (detained in hospital, fractures, severe head injury, severe internal injuries or shock requiring treatment) or minor. All data for the three time periods was entered onto an SPSS database. A concerted national campaign re road safety media campaign allied to random breath testing, penalty points for driving offences, on the spot fines for speeding and greater police enforcement took place over the 17-year timeframe and continues to this day. When results were compared between the three cohorts, total injuries dropped from 5928 (1996-2000) to 3903 (2009-2013).Fatal injuries dropped from 163 to 43 with car occupant fatalities fell from 69 to 17 between 1996-2000 and 2009-2013. Serious injuries dropped from 347 in the first cohort to 201 in the third cohort. Minor injuries fell from 5,063 to 3,659 between first and last cohort. Pedestrian injuries dropped from 1719 to 1258 with pedestrian fatalities decreased from 61 (1996-2000) to 21 (2009-2013) and serious pedestrian injuries decreased from 261 down to 129. Cyclist fatalities saw the most significant fall (76%) with a dramatic reduction in fatalities from 25 down to 6. A national road safety campaign, greater police enforcement and a cultural change has seen road-related deaths and injuries in children drop very significantly (by over 70%) over the three time periods (spanning 1996 to 2013) and this campaign should continue.

Abstract:Background: Use of seat belts and car seats for children are among the most effective interventions to reduce injury severity when a crash occurs. The use should be enforced in order to have an increase in wearing these restraints. Romania has the lowest rate of using seatbelts in the backseat, 16%. The purpose of the study is to describe the use of child safety restraints and compare it with existing standards of good practice. Methods: An observational study on child safety restraint was conducted in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, between 2013 and 2014. Observational sites included 38 schools and kindergartens and three commercial areas, where drivers (n=768) and child passengers (n=892) were observed. Observations were conducted as vehicles parked or pulled to a stop and were followed by driver surveys on knowledge and attitudes towards restraint legislation and child safety behaviour as car occupants. Results: The proportion of observed child motor vehicle occupants wearing some type of restraint was 67.4% (n=601). The majority of children (82.6%) were in the back seat, and 14.2% of infants were in a rear-facing child seat. The proportion of restrained children declined with age, with children 5 years old or younger being almost five times more likely to be properly restrained (OR 4.87, 95% CI 2.93 to 8.07) when compared with older children. Conclusions: Although minimum legal requirements of child motor vehicle occupant safety were in place in Romania at the time of the study, the rates of using children restraints was low compared with other middle-income and high-income countries.

Abstract:Objective By analyzing the characteristics of road traffic accident death cases,this thesis offers reliable information and reference data for accident prevention.Methods The analysis was made on data of 83 road traffic accident death cases,from aspects of gender,age,death cause,time and site of accident,and vehicle types.Results There were much more males than females.The age was between 30 and 60.Most of the accidents took place in autumn and winter,during periods from 12 to 14 o'clock,and from 18 to 20 o' clock.Among the chief transportation means adopted by the death,motorcycle accounted for 39.5%,walking 23.6% and bicycle 13.1%.The ratio of accident vehicles of car,truck and motorcycle was 27.6%,26.2%,25% respectively.Most of the accidents happened on main road and 83.1% death were caused by brain injury.Conclusion Related government departments should enhance road construction and vehicle management to reduce the death rate caused by traffic accident.

Abstract:The global target of reducing road traffic fatalities by 50% by 2030 requires, targeted interventions addressing the risk faced by children and young adults especially in low and middle income countries. As of 2019, road traffic crashes are the leading killer of children and youth aged 5–29 years and are the 12th leading cause of death when all ages are considered. Two-thirds of deaths occur among people of working age (18–59 years), causing huge health, social and economic harm throughout society (World Health Organisation [WHO], 2023). Fatalities have continued to increase in the African region which is the youngest continent with almost 74% of the population in the age group of 5–49 years. Globally 28% of all fatalities occur in WHO South East Asia region, where nearly 70% of the population is in the age group of 5–49 years, the group facing the highest risk in road traffic fatalities.

Abstract:Introduction. The latest WHO report on the prevention of road injuries emphasizes the need to improve road safety management, especially in developing countries, the analysis of traffic accidents, as well as the application of good practices adapted to local conditions. The Republic of Moldova has a fragmented road injury reporting system, so the purpose of this study was to study the trends and general aspects of road injuries in the country's population. Material and methods. A cross-sectional, descriptive research was carried out during 2007-2020, which studied the main indicators of morbidity and mortality rates due to injuries and road injuries among the adult population of the Republic of Moldova, based on the official statistical data of the National Agency for Public Health and the National Bureau of Statistics from the Republic of Moldova Results. The study's findings revealed that in terms of the general prevalence of the population, traumatic injuries, poisoning, and other consequences of external sources rank 8th across the republic and 6th in Chisinau. The mortality indicators of the population according to the main causes of death, rank injuries and poisonings are on the 4th place, and injuries caused by road accidents on the 2nd place both in the republic and in the capital city. There is a slight downward trend in the mortality indicators of the population due to traffic accidents. Conclusions. The obtained data pointed out the importance of road behavior improvement among the entire society, whereas the specialists from various fields should be permanently involved in activities of raising awareness among all road traffic participants.
Examination of the transport characteristics of pediatric trauma patients

Abstract:Background/aim: Injury is an important public health problem in the pediatric age group and one of the leading global causes of morbidity and mortality. The fact that pediatric trauma has a significant impact on patients, families, and countries shows the need for a better understanding of this phenomenon. This study investigates the demographic characteristics, reasons for admission to the hospital, and diagnoses of pediatric trauma patients who received prehospital emergency health services. Materials and methods: This study was designed as a retrospective observational study and included all patients under the age of 18 who received emergency healthcare due to trauma and were registered in the Emergency Health Automation System after a call was placed to the emergency call center between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2022. Information such as the reason for calling an ambulance, ICD-10 diagnosis codes, mechanism of injury, time of arrival at the scene, transport duration from the scene to the hospital, and reasons for interfacility transfers were collected for all patients. Results: A total of 37,420 patients were included in the analysis. Seventeen patients were found dead at the scene of the trauma and 35 patients experienced cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital from the scene. The difference between age groups in terms of time from arrival at the scene to arrival at the hospital was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Falls were the most common cause of trauma in all age groups, followed by traffic accidents. Patients requiring a specialist and transferred primarily for fall-related injuries were in direct proportion to the total number of cases (65.0%, n = 1838), followed by cases of traffic accidents and sports injuries. Most of the secondary transports were made to a training and research hospital or state hospital. Conclusion: Targeted preventive measures and community education should address the specific causes of trauma that are more prevalent in certain age groups. Early identification of special patient groups that typically require secondary transport can reduce mortality and morbidity related to trauma by facilitating direct transfers to appropriate hospitals.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Road traffic injuries (RTIs) have become a considerable issue for children. In China, RTIs are among the top 3 contributors to injury-related mortality and disability-adjusted life years. The present study aimed to evaluate social and environmental factors that may contribute to RTIs among children under 5 in rural areas of China.METHODS:The study was based on 1 year of data (October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2016) from the National Maternal and Child Health Surveillance System (NMCHSS) from all districts in 334 National Maternal and Child Health Surveillance Districts in 30 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. Data were analyzed to identify environmental, social, and primary caregiver factors related to RTIs among children under 5.RESULTS:Based on data for the 279 children registered in the NMCHSS during the study period, incidence of RTIs increased with increasing age and was higher for boys than girls. Risk of RTIs depended on distances from the child's home to roads and playgrounds. Enrollment in kindergarten and characteristics of primary caregivers affected risky road behaviors by children. Most primary caregivers (67.4%) reported never using child car seats, and 70.6% reported never using a child helmet. Among primary caregivers without a driver's license, 24.8% reported having driven motor vehicles or motorcycles.CONCLUSIONS:The living environment and behaviors of primary caregivers can affect risk of RTIs in children younger than 5 years in rural China. Road safety awareness should be strengthened at the community and kindergarten levels.
Epidemiological and Clinical Characteristics of 3327 Cases of Traffic Trauma Deaths in Beijing from 2008 to 2017: a Retrospective Analysis.

Abstract:We investigated the epidemiological and clinical characteristics deaths from road traffic injury (RTI) in Beijing, and provided evidence useful for the prevention of fatal traffic trauma and for the treatment of traffic-related injuries. We retrospectively reviewed death cases provided by the Beijing Red Cross Emergency Center on road traffic injury deaths from 2008 to 2017. We analyzed population characteristics, time distribution, distribution of transportation modes, intervals to death, locations and injured body parts. From 2008 to 2017, there were 3327 deaths from RTI recorded by the Beijing Red Cross Emergency Center, with mainly males among these deaths. The average age at death was 46.19 +/- 17.43 years old (46.19, 0.43-100.24). In accidents with more detail recorded, pedestrians and people using nonmotorized transportation modes suffered the most fatalities (664/968, 68.60%). The most commonly injured body parts were the head (2569/3327, 77.22%), followed by the chest (180/3327, 5.41%), abdomen (130/3327, 3.91%), lower extremities (68/3327, 2.04%), pelvis (67/3327, 2.01%), spinal cord (31/3327, 0.93%), and upper extremities (26/3327, 0.78%). Burns accounted for 0.96% (32/3327), and unknown body parts were affected in 11.28% (365/3327). The average time interval from injury to death was 36.90 +/- 89.57 h (36.90, 0-720); 46.7% (1554/3327) died within 10 minutes after injury; 9.02% (300/3327) died between 10 min and 1 hour; 30.33% (1009/3327) died between 1 hour and 3 days; 13.95% (464/3327) died between 3 and 30 days. In Beijing, RTI is a significant cause of preventable death, particularly among pedestrians and users of non-motorized vehicles. Head trauma was the most lethal cause of RTI deaths. Our findings suggested that interventions to prevent collisions and reduce injuries, and improved trauma treatment process and trauma rescue system could address a certain proportion of avoidable RTI deaths.
Bicycle-related accidents in Rome: Investigating clinical patterns, demographics, injury contexts, and health outcomes for enhanced public safety

Abstract:INTRODUCTION: This study aims to analyze the clinical characteristics, demographic features, and injury circumstances of patients admitted to the Emergency Department (ED) at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli (IRCCS) in Rome, Italy, due to bicycle accidents.METHODS: Data on clinical characteristics, accident timing, injury circumstances, and helmet use were collected for ED patients involved in bicycle accidents from January 2019 to December 2022. Subsequently, Abbreviated Injury Scale codes of all diagnoses were recorded and the Injury Severity Score was calculated.RESULTS: Over the study period, 763 patients were admitted to the ED following bicycle accidents, with a 0.3 % fatality rate and a 30.4 % frequency of multitrauma. Multivariate analysis revealed that collisions with other vehicles increased trauma severity and the risk of ICU admission. Conversely, helmet use was associated with reduced severity of head trauma and a lower likelihood of ICU admission. Notably, toxicological investigations were not conducted for any ED-admitted patients.CONCLUSIONS: Although a low mortality rate and a low incidence of multi-trauma have been shown in comparison to other nations, it is necessary to adopt prevention strategies like safety devices, more cycle paths, and better infrastructures on the one hand, and stricter laws on the other. It is essential to require toxicological testing in Italy for all accidents involving this means of transport, and to make helmet use compulsory for all ages.

Abstract:Background: Pedestrians and cyclists are often referred to as "vulnerable road users," yet most research is focused on fatal crashes. We used fatal and nonfatal crash data to examine risk factors (i.e., relationship to an intersection, urbanicity, crash circumstances, and vehicle type) for police-reported pedestrian and cyclist injuries on public roads among children aged 0-9 and aged 10-19. We also compared risk factors among these two age groups with adults aged 20-29 and aged 30-39. Methods: Crash data were obtained for 2016-2020 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatality Analysis Reporting System for fatal crash injuries and Crash Report Sampling System for nonfatal crash injuries. We collected data on victim demographics, roadway, and vehicle- and driver-related factors. Descriptive analyses were conducted between and within pedestrian and cyclist victims. Results: We analyzed 206,429 pedestrian injuries (36% in children aged 0-19) and 148,828 cyclist injuries (41% in children aged 0-19) from 2016 to 2020. Overall, child pedestrians had lower injury rates than adults, but children aged 10-19 had greater cycling crash rates than adults. Almost half of the pedestrian injuries in children aged 0-9 were "dart-out" injuries (43%). In the majority of the cyclist injuries, children in both age groups failed to yield to vehicles (aged 0-9 = 40% and aged 10-19 = 24%). For children and all ages included in the study, the fatality risk ratio was highest when pedestrians and cyclists were struck by larger vehicles, such as trucks and buses. Further exploration of roadway factors is presented across ages and transportation mode. Conclusion: Our findings on child, driver, vehicle, and roadway factors related to fatal and nonfatal pedestrian and cyclist injuries may help to tailor prevention efforts for younger and older children.
A decadal analysis of road traffic accident-related mortality among women of reproductive age: A cross-sectional study in East Azerbaijan Province, Iran

Abstract:Background: Given the extensive impact of road traffic accidents (RTAs) consequences and their potential ramifications on the health of both current and future generations, this study examines the social and demographic factors that influence RTA-related mortality among women of reproductive age. Methods: The study population consisted of cases retrieved from the database of the Legal Medicine Organization, encompassing all women aged 15-49 who succumbed to road accidents between 2011 and 2021. Results: The mean age of women in the reproductive age group from East Azerbaijan province between 2011 and 2021 was 33.67 years, with a standard deviation of 9.18. RTAs on main roads accounted for the majority of incidents (395 cases, 50.8%), with 93.7% (728 cases) attributed to road traffic. In 54.4% of these cases, the affected organ was the head and neck, and the primary cause of death in 52.1% was head trauma. Across all age groups, injuries to the neck and head were the most common, followed by injuries to the abdomen, chest, back, and sternum. Conclusion: The higher incidence of road accidents in the 25-29 age group highlights the need for targeted interventions to address risky behaviors, inexperience, and peer influences in this demographic. Our observation of passengers experiencing the highest mortality rate emphasizes the vulnerability of road users, particularly pedestrians, in traffic accidents. Pedestrian violations in the 17-30 age group further emphasize the importance of education and awareness campaigns aimed at reducing risky behavior.

Abstract:Adolescents and young adults' active lifestyles make dental trauma a significant medical concern. Aim: This study aims to assess the etiology, frequency, and localization of dental and periodontal trauma in adolescents and young adults, along with these individuals' predisposition based on age, gender, and residence. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included 109 adolescents and young adults from a database of the Emergency and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at "Sf. Spiridon" Hospital, Iasi, Romania. The collected data included demographic details, mechanisms of dental and periodontal trauma, treatment approaches, and clinical outcomes. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0, with comparisons based on age, gender, and residence. Results: Enamel fractures (23.9%) and enamel-dentin fractures without pulp exposure (20.2%) were the most frequent dental injuries. Concussion (58.7%), subluxation (21.1%), luxation, avulsion (7.3%), and extrusion (5.5%) were common periodontal injuries. The anterior region of the dental arch accounted for the majority (60.6%) of injuries. Adolescents under 17 years were more prone to enamel-dentin fractures without pulp exposure (23.8%), enamel-dentin fractures with pulp exposure (20.6%), and root fractures (20.6%), while young adults over 18 years had a higher incidence of enamel fractures (32.6%) and crown-root fractures (30.4%). Falls (66.7%) were the predominant cause of trauma for female patients, whereas male patients were more often injured during sports activities (49.3%). The younger age group was 0.29 times more likely to sustain enamel-dentin fractures without pulp exposure (p = 0.049, OR = 0.291) and root fractures (p = 0.047, OR = 0.241). Conclusions: Traumatic dental injuries are more prevalent in young adults compared to adolescents, with falls and sports activities being the most common causes, particularly among males. These findings emphasize the need for targeted preventive programs aimed at reducing the incidence of dento-periodontal trauma in these age groups.

Abstract:Background: The global burden of road injuries is known to follow complex geographical, temporal and demographic patterns. While health loss from road injuries is a major topic of global importance, there has been no recent comprehensive assessment that includes estimates for every age group, sex and country over recent years. Methods: We used results from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2017 study to report incidence, prevalence, years lived with disability, deaths, years of life lost and disability-adjusted life years for all locations in the GBD 2017 hierarchy from 1990 to 2017 for road injuries. Second, we measured mortality-to-incidence ratios by location. Third, we assessed the distribution of the natures of injury (eg, traumatic brain injury) that result from each road injury. Results: Globally, 1 243 068 (95% uncertainty interval 1 191 889 to 1 276 940) people died from road injuries in 2017 out of 54 192 330 (47 381 583 to 61 645 891) new cases of road injuries. Age-standardised incidence rates of road injuries increased between 1990 and 2017, while mortality rates decreased. Regionally, age-standardised mortality rates decreased in all but two regions, South Asia and Southern Latin America, where rates did not change significantly. Nine of 21 GBD regions experienced significant increases in age-standardised incidence rates, while 10 experienced significant decreases and two experienced no significant change. Conclusions: While road injury mortality has improved in recent decades, there are worsening rates of incidence and significant geographical heterogeneity. These findings indicate that more research is needed to better understand how road injuries can be prevented.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the injury characteristics in 2004-2009 road traffic accidents (RTAS) of 0-25 years old adolescents treated in Beijing "120" Emergency Center so as to provide scientific basis for making effective measures in prevention and control of RTAs. Methods The data of all the adolescents with traffic injuries treated in Beijing "120" Medical Emergency Center were collected for a retrospective analysis on sex,age,traffic injury time,wound regions,injury characteristics and death condition of the injured adolescents. Results ( 1 ) There were 17 232 injuries and 259 deaths according to the traffic reports from 2004 to 2009. Among the total injury cases,there were 4 229 cases of 0-25 years old adolescents (24.5％),at (20.13 ± 4.43 ) years of age.The injury number showed a significant rising trend with the increase of age and the injury number of 20 years old group were obvious more than that of other age groups.(2) There were 2 252 males and 1 677 females,with ratio of males to females for 1.5:1 ( P ＜ 0.05 ).( 3 ) Total number of patients was decreased yearly.The high incidence of adolescent RTAs could be seen in September,October and May in one year; Friday,Saturday and Sunday in one week; and between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm in one day.The low incidence of adolescent RTAs could be seen in Tuesday in one week,and 3:00-6:00 am in one day (P ＜0.05).(4) Cases of limb and arthrosis wounds (53.4％) were more than those of head and neck wounds (35％).Most of the cases were pedestrians (49.1％ ).(5) There were 38 deaths,including 28 males and 10 females,at ageof (19.29 ± 5.30) years.The death were mainly resulted from craniocerebral injuries (87％),which mainly concentrated in July ( 13.2％ ) and August ( 15.8％ ). Conclusions The present condition ofadolescent traffic injuries is not good enough.We should strengthen traffic security education,increase executive powers in the traffic rush and promote cooperation and communication in pre-hospital emergency,as may be beneficial for decreasing adolescent RTA.

Abstract:Objective To investigate factors that most influence urban road traffic injuries (RTI) mortality and morbidity. Methods The study used linked police and hospital records of RTI patients in the city of Hangzhou during the 3-year period 2004–2006. Three RTI outcome groups were included: (1) fatally injured; (2) severely injured; and (3) mildly injured persons. Results High risks for fatal road traffic accidents (RTA) were found on urban links, over weekend, during night hours, in male drivers who drove old vehicles without using seat belts, and at exceeding speeds, or with night time accidents and bad weather condition. In case of higher risk for all urban road users on urban junctions, the numbers on mildly injury cases were increasing. The highest combined risk for dying or being severely injured was found in male drivers driving at excessive speed, on urban links, and with night time accidents . Conclusions Intensifying safety education of motor vehicle drivers, enhancing traffic management and keeping balance of “person–vehicle–road” system will greatly reduce the urban traffic accidents and casualties.
