Abstract:BACKGROUND: The prevalence of high blood pressure in children is increasing worldwide, largely, but not entirely, driven by the concurrent childhood obesity epidemic. The aims of this study were to examine the prevalence of prehypertension and hypertension in 4-to-6-year-old Spanish schoolchildren, and to evaluate the association between different blood pressure (BP) components with different adiposity indicators.METHODS: Cross-sectional study including a sample of 1.604 schoolchildren aged 4-to-6-years belonging to 21 schools from the provinces of Ciudad Real and Cuenca, Spain. We measured height, weight, body mass index (BMI), fat mass percentage (%FM), triceps skinfold thickness (TST), waist circumference (WC), systolic and diastolic BP, mean arterial pressure and pulse pressure.RESULTS: The estimates of prevalence of prehypertension and hypertension were 12.3% and 18.2%, respectively. In both sexes, adiposity indicators were positively and significantly associated with all BP components (p<0.001), thus schoolchildren in the higher adiposity categories had significantly higher BP levels (p<0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Our results show a high prevalence of high blood pressure in Spanish children. Moreover, high levels of adiposity are associated with high blood pressure in early childhood, which support that it could be related to cardiovascular risk later in life.

Abstract:Background and aims Obesity has an important role in the prognosis of the patients, and important regional differences were described in Spain. The aim is to determine the prevalence of obesity in Spanish primary care patients and its geographical distribution. Methods and results Prevalence study that included patients from the baseline interview of the IBERICAN study. Obesity was defined as a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 30 kg/m 2 and abdominal obesity as a WC greater than or equal to 102 cm in men and 88 cm in women. Prevalence risks were calculated using unconditional logistic regression models, adjusting for socio-demographic variables and lifestyles. 58.8% of the patients were obese according to any of the criteria used and 30.5% met both criteria simultaneously. 33.7% had a BMI greater than or equal to 30 kg/m 2 and 55.6% had abdominal obesity. Women, older patients, rural residents, and retirees presented a higher risk of obesity. On the other hand, a higher economic status or education, regular exercise and high adherence to a Mediterranean diet were protective factors. The prevalence of obesity was heterogeneously distributed, and Canary Islands, Cantabria and Castilla la Mancha had significantly high risks of combined obesity (aOR=1.80; 1.50 and 1.46 respectively). Conclusions Obesity is a highly prevalent disease in primary care patients, with significant geographical differences in Spain.

Abstract:From the standpoint of chiasma formation and the relation of the chromatids, two essentially different theories have been advanced. The first is JANSSENS’ ‘partial chiasmatypy” hypothesis (1924). This theory enjoins a crossing over between two of the four chromatids, a crossover a t every chiasmata, and a pairing of only sister threads a t early diplotene. The Janssens’ “partial chiasmatypy” theory, with various modifications, is supported by BELLING (1931), DARLINGTON (1931), and MAEDA (1930). The other hypothesis is that of MCCLUNG (1927). The work of WENRICH (1916)’ ROBERTSON (1916), CAROTHERS (1926, 1931), NEWTON (1927), BELAR (1928), and many others supports this theory. Chiasmata are produced by an alternate pairing of sister and non-sister strands. Chiasmata represent an exchange of partners among the chromatids. According to SAX (1930), a crossover occurs only when two chromatids break a t a chiasma. On this theory chiasmata may be present without crossing over. MCCLUNG (1927) has pointed out clearly that when there is crossing over, according to JANSSENS’ theory, there should be an asymmetrical arrangement of the chromatids. JANSSENS based his arguments for his theory on cases where the asymmetrical arrangements have been found in certain Orthoptera, but as MCCLUNG has pointed out the clearest figures show that symmetrical figures are the usual and most prevalent types. On,any theory, crossing over between two of the four chromatids should usually result in an asymmetrical relation of the chromatids. If a single crossover occurs it is possible that the chromatids might be subsequently oriented to produce a symmetrical relation of the chromatids, but in case two crossovers occur in a single bivalent a symmetrical relation of chromatids should be exceptional. Viewed from the end, each of the four chromatids should not lie in the same quadrant at all loci after a crossover has occurred at the four strand stage. As the homologues open out, the chromatids which were adjacent may form the cross at the chiasma if the chiasma is the result of a reciprocal crossover (text figure 1A). As such a chiasma is terminalized there should be a twist in one pair of chromatids. These reciprocal crossovers should occur as frequently as equationals if crossing over is a t random. Abstract:Childhood obesity is one of the main public health concerns in Europe. The aim was to identify possible risk factors associated with overweight/obesity in Spanish preschool and school-age children. The sample (1075 (50.7% girls) children aged 3 to 12) is part of the project 'Alimentando el Cambio' whose objective is to promote healthy lifestyles in schools. Child height and weight were measured, and parents filled out questionnaires related to the children's lifestyle. There was a positive and significant association between sweetened beverage consumption and body mass index (BMI) z-score in both sexes and age groups. There was a negative and significant association between BMI z-score and dairy products in girls of both age groups. There was also a protective effect of regular nut consumption on overweight/obesity in girls 6-12 y. Night-time sleep during weekdays showed a negative association with BMI z-score for older boys and girls. A positive and significant association was found between total screen time and BMI z-score during weekdays. Regarding emotional well-being and self-esteem, having girls 6-12 y laughing and feeling happy and good about themselves in the last week was a protective factor against overweight/obesity. Childhood obesity prevention efforts may benefit from targeting these key risk factors.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Little is known about the cumulative effect of obesogenic behaviours on childhood obesity risk. We determined the cumulative effect on BMI z-score, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), overweight and abdominal obesity of four lifestyle behaviours that have been linked to obesity.METHODS: In this cross-sectional analysis, data were obtained from the EnKid sudy, a representative sample of Spanish youth. The study included 1,614 boys and girls aged 5-18 years. Weight, height and waist circumference were measured. Physical activity (PA), screen time, breakfast consumption and meal frequency were self-reported on structured questionnaires. Obesogenic behaviours were defined as <1 h PA/day, ≥2 h/day screen time, skipping breakfast and <3 meals/day. BMI z-score was computed using age- and sex-specific reference values from the World Health Organization (WHO). Overweight including obesity was defined as a BMI > 1 SD from the mean of the WHO reference population. Abdominal obesity was defined as a WHtR ≥ 0.5.RESULTS: High screen time was the most prominent obesogenic behaviour (49.7%), followed by low physical activity (22.4%), low meal frequency (14.4%), and skipping breakfast (12.5%). Although 33% of participants were free of all 4 obesogenic behaviours, 1, 2, and 3 or 4 behaviours were reported by 44.5%, 19.3%, and 5.0%, respectively. BMI z-score and WHtR were positively associated (p < 0.001) with increasing numbers of concurrent obesogenic behaviours. The odds of presenting with obesogenic behaviours were significantly higher in children who were overweight (OR 2.68; 95% CI 1.50; 4.80) or had abdominal obesity (OR 2.12; 95% CI 1.28; 3.52); they reported more than 2 obesogenic behaviours. High maternal and parental education was inversely associated (p = 0.004 and p < 0.001, respectively) with increasing presence of obesogenic behaviours. Surrogate markers of adiposity increased with numbers of concurrent presence of obesogenic behaviours. The opposite was true for high maternal and paternal education.

Abstract:Introduction: The incidence of type 1 diabetes shows wide geographical variability and heterogeneity. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence and prevalence of type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents ages less than 15 years in the different provinces of Castilla-León. Material and methods: To determine incidence, all new cases of type 1 diabetes with onset under 15 years of age in 2003-2004 were obtained. Incidence was expressed as the crude value with the corresponding confidence interval and as standardized incidence. The capture-recapture method was used to calculate the completeness of ascertainment. To determine prevalence, all cases of type 1 diabetes in persons ages less than 15 years at 31 December 2004 were obtained. Results: Incidence showed wide variability among the different provinces of Castilla-León. The highest values were found in Segovia (38.77/100,000/year), Valladolid (32.07/100,000/ year) and Avila (23.21/100,000/year) and the lowest in Zamora (8.14/100,000/year). Incidences were highest in the 5-9 years age group in all provinces except Burgos. Prevalence was highest in Segovia (1.54/1,000), Valladolid (1.41/1,000), Avila (1.38/1,000) and Zamora (1.32/1,000) and lowest in Burgos (0.91/1,000). Conclusions: Castilla-León seems to have one of the highest incidences of type 1 diabetes in Spain; several of its provinces have values similar to those in Northern Europe.

Abstract:Background: The pediatric population is one of the social groups most affected by oral pathology, and overweight and/or obesity is increasingly frequently observed. This work presents a study of the prevalence of oral disease in the school population in Mallorca and its relationship with overweight/obesity. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 718 students aged 5–6 (n = 255), 12 (n = 230) and 15 years (n = 233). The WHO criteria for diagnosing and coding examined teeth and overweight/obesity prevalence values. To explore the differences in data, the mean was analyzed using the Student's t-test or a one-way analysis of variance followed by the Bonferroni post hoc analysis. Results: Results found that students aged 15 years have a caries prevalence rate of 45.49%, higher than those aged 12 (27.39%). The presence of dental calculus in 15-year-old students is 52.8%, even higher than in 12-year-olds (30%). Students aged 6 and 12 with lower weight percentiles have fewer healthy teeth than those with higher percentiles. Conclusions: The schoolchildren have experienced a decrease in caries and an increase in periodontitis, with weight percentile potentially influencing the number of healthy teeth.

Abstract:Objective We aimed to estimate how longitudinal trends in cardiovascular disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus incidence in Catalonia, Spain from 2009 to 2018 may differ by age, sex and socioeconomic deprivation. Design Cohort study using prospectively collected data. Setting Electronic health records from primary healthcare centres in Catalonia, Spain. Participants 3 247 244 adults (≥40 years). Outcome measures We calculated the annual incidence (per 1000 persons-year) and incidence rate ratios (IRR) between three time periods of cardiovascular disease, hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus to measure trends and changes in incidence during the study period. Results In 2016–2018 compared with 2009–2012, cardiovascular disease incidence increased in the 40–54 (eg, IRR=1.61, 95% CI: 1.52 to 1.69 in women) and 55–69 age groups. There was no change in cardiovascular disease incidence in women aged 70+ years, and a slight decrease in men aged 70+ years (0.93, 0.90 to 0.95). Hypertension incidence decreased in all age groups for both sexes. Type 2 diabetes mellitus incidence decreased in all age groups for both sexes (eg, 0.72, 0.70 to 0.73 in women aged 55–69 years), except for the 40–54 year age group (eg, 1.09, 1.06 to 1.13 in women). Higher incidence levels were found in the most deprived areas, especially in the 40–54 and 55–69 groups. Conclusions Overall cardiovascular disease incidence has increased while hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus incidence have decreased in the last years in Catalonia, Spain, with differences in trends by age group and socioeconomic deprivation.

Abstract:Background In 2010, overweight and obesity were estimated to cause 3.4 million deaths, 3.9% of years of life lost, and 3.8% of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) worldwide. The rise in obesity has led to widespread calls for regular monitoring of changes in overweight and obesity prevalence in all populations. Comparable, up-to-date information about levels and trends is essential to quantify population health effects and to prompt decision makers to prioritise action. We estimate the global, regional, and national prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and adults during 1980-2013.Methods We systematically identified surveys, reports, and published studies (n = 1769) that included data for height and weight, both through physical measurements and self-reports. We used mixed effects linear regression to correct for bias in self-reports. We obtained data for prevalence of obesity and overweight by age, sex, country, and year (n = 19 244) with a spatiotemporal Gaussian process regression model to estimate prevalence with 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs).Findings Worldwide, the proportion of adults with a body-mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m(2) or greater increased between 1980 and 2013 from 28.8% (95% UI 28.4-29.3) to 36.9% (36.3-37.4) in men, and from 29.8% (29.3-30.2) to 38.0% (37.5-38.5) in women. Prevalence has increased substantially in children and adolescents in developed countries; 23.8% (22.9-24.7) of boys and 22.6% (21.7-23.6) of girls were overweight or obese in 2013. The prevalence of overweight and obesity has also increased in children and adolescents in developing countries, from 8.1% (7.7-86) to 12.9% (12.3-13.5) in 2013 for boys and from 8.4% (8.1-8.8) to 13.4% (13.0-13.9) in girls. In adults, estimated prevalence of obesity exceeded 50% in men in Tonga and in women in Kuwait, Kiribati, Federated States of Micronesia, Libya, Qatar, Tonga, and Samoa. Since 2006, the increase in adult obesity in developed countries has slowed down.Interpretation Because of the established health risks and substantial increases in prevalence, obesity has become a major global health challenge. Not only is obesity increasing, but no national success stories have been reported in the past 33 years. Abstract:Abstract Introduction: Obesity is a public health crisis in the US. Childhood obesity is associated with multiple comorbidities in the adulthood, including metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases, and premature death. A recent study found that the prevalence of childhood obesity varied according to age and ethnicity. This study aims to evaluate the long-term trends and the underexplored socioeconomic factors associated with childhood obesity. Method: From the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2018, 35 907 children aged 2–19 with body mass index (BMI) data were included. Prevalence of obesity and severe obesity, defined as BMI ≥95th percentile and ≥120% of 95th percentile of US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention growth charts, respectively. Trends in prevalence of obesity and subgroup analyses according to age group, sex, ethnicity, language used in interview, household education level, and household income level, were analyzed. Data analysis was performed using the R statistical package “survey” (version 3.6.3). Results: The prevalence of obesity and severe obesity increased from 14.7 [95% CI: 12.9–17.0] % to 19.2 [17.2–21.0] % and 3.9 [2.9–5.0] % to 6.1 [4.8–8.0] % in 1999–2018, respectively (p=0.001 and p=0.014 for obesity and severe obesity, respectively). In 2017–8, the prevalence of obesity among children from Spanish-speaking households was 24.4 [22.4–27.0] %, higher than children from English-speaking households (p=0.027). Children from households with high education level and high income level had a lower prevalence of obesity compared to those with low education level and low income level (p=0.003 and p=0.002 for education level and income level, respectively). Compared to girls, boys had higher prevalence of obesity (p=0.002) and severe obesity (p=0.004). Conclusion: The prevalence of childhood obesity in America kept increasing during the period 1999–2018 despite various public health initiatives. The problem is worse in children with lower socioeconomic status, and in children from Spanish-speaking households. Public health interventions are urgently needed to halt the rising trend of childhood obesity, and measures specifically catering to children from Spanish-speaking families should be put in place.

Abstract:Background: In recent years, there was a significant increase in myopia incidence worldwide. However, it is still not clear how it affects Spanish children. Since 2016, this research team analyzed myopia prevalence and risk in 9668 children aged between 5 and 7 years. It was shown that the prevalence rates increased from 16.8% in 2016 to 20.4% in 2019. The objective of this study is to update the prevalence rate of myopia in Spain in 2020 and analyze the risk and prevention factors of myopia. Methods: The participants underwent an optometric examination, and a questionnaire on their lifestyle, family history, and geographical origin was carried out. Finally, data were analyzed using the SPSS version 27 program. Results: 1601 children from various Autonomous Communities of Spain were examined. In 2020 the myopia rates did not increase compared to 2019 (p < 0.05), although the number of hyperopes decreased and the number of emmetropes increased. Regarding age, the prevalence of myopia increased progressively over the years (p 0.05). There was a link between the time spent in near vision and family history with the prevalence of myopia (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The prevalence of myopia in Spain in children between 5 and 7 years old increased significantly between 2016 and 2020.

Abstract:Background and objectives: Studies have shown an increasing incidence of type I diabetes in children in Europe over the last 20 years. The present study was conducted to evaluate the incidence and development of type I diabetes in children under 15 years of age in Extremadura in the period 2003-2007. Material and methods: The study applied the capture-recapture method using the national hospital discharge database as primary source. Data were collected from children under 15 years of age diagnosed with diabetes type I during the study period. Secondary data source were insulin prescriptions from the public health system. Rates were standardised and a Poisson regression was used to assess the development of the disease during the study period. Results: The overall adjusted incidence rate was 25.2/100.000 (95%CI: 21.8-28.6) with 100% completeness; no significant differences were observed by sex or provinces. Age group rates were 20.2/100.000 (95%CI: 10.1-30.3) for aged 0-4 years, 24.8/100.000 (95%CI: 20.1-29.4) for aged 5-9 years, and 30.0/100.000 (95%CI: 25.8-34.1) for aged 10-14 years, with a RR of 1.67 (95%CI: 1.18-2.36; P=.004) for 10-14 year olds relative to 0-4 year olds. The number of cases among children aged 0-4 years increased from 5 cases in 2003 to 15 cases in 2006, although this increase was not significantly different. Conclusion: The overall rates of incidence of type I diabetes were higher than the expected incidence values in Extremadura. Careful surveillance is required to confirm the increased trend in the incidence of type I diabetes observed among children aged 0-4 years.

Abstract:Introduction: Eating disorders (EDs) are mental health illnesses with a multifactorial origin. At present, no review of indexed publications studying their prevalence in Spain is available. Material and methods: A scoping review (PROSPERO -CRD42019140884-) was carried out through systematic searches (MEDLINE, EMBASE and PsycINFO) until January 2022. Papers published in Spanish/English analysing the prevalence of EDs in Spain (population < 65 years) were selected. Results: A total of 766 articles were identified (186 eliminated as duplicates). A total of 580 articles were analysed on the basis of title and abstract, and 67 articles were selected for full-text analysis. A total of 37 studies analysed the prevalence of EDs in Spain. Conclusions: This is the first scoping review to analyse the prevalence of EDs in Spain. Puberty and adolescence are the most extensively studied stages. There is a high heterogeneity in the use of ED screening tools and a paucity of information on diagnostic tools.

Abstract:Background: Although Spain has traditionally followed the Mediterranean diet, in recent years, changes have become noticeable in the food preferences of the population. These changes include adopting new diets and dietary trends, such as plant-based diets, intermittent fasting and raw food diets. These choices are influenced by cultural, social and socio-demographic factors, and their impact on health should be studied in detail. Aim: The objectives of this research are: (1) to study the prevalence of different dietary patterns among the Spanish population, (2) to explore the dependence of dietary choice on socio-demographic factors, (3) to investigate the relationship between the social habits and lifestyle choices of the population and how it affects health. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on the Spanish population. Using a questionnaire constructed and validated by the research team, socio-demographic data were collected and different nutritional, social and lifestyle habits of the targeted population were explored. Results: A valid sample of 22,181 people was collected among which 17,573 (79.2%) people claimed to follow a Mediterranean dietary pattern, 1,425 (6.4%) people followed a plant-based diet, 365 (1.6%) people are vegans, 1,018 people (4.6%) practiced intermittent fasting, 252 (1.1%) people followed a raw food diet and 1,548 people (7%) claimed to follow other types of diets. The data show that younger people (18–25 years old) tend to adopt more often a plant-based diet than older people and that women tend to follow this type of diet more often than men. On the other hand, men seem to practice intermittent fasting more frequently. A higher tendency to practice a raw food diet was found among people living in villages than those living in cities. Moreover, some trends were found in different regions of Spain, with greater adherence to a plant-based diet in Catalonia, while intermittent fasting is more common in the Region of Murcia. Finally, the results indicate that individuals who pay attention to their diet and experiment with various dietary patterns are generally more health-conscious. This is reflected in their adoption of healthier behaviors, such as exercising more and reducing their intake of alcohol and sugary drinks.

Abstract:Background: Childhood obesity presents a significant public health concern globally, with implications for cardiovascular health and metabolic syndrome. In Portugal, approximately 31.6% of children are affected, highlighting the urgency for intervention strategies. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Portuguese school-aged children, with a focus on sex and age differences. Methods: Anthropometric measurements were conducted on 1564 children aged 6–10 years, including weight, height, and skinfold thickness. Body Mass Index (BMI) and the percentage of body fat were calculated using established methods. Results: The results revealed significant differences in BMI (≤0.001) and body fat percentage (≤0.001) among different BMI categories, with a notable prevalence of overweight and obesity, particularly among boys. A total of 37% of the studied population is overweight or obese, among which 40.1% and 33.9% are boys and girls, respectively. Conclusions: This study highlights statistically significant differences in BMI and body fat percentage for both sexes in different BMI categories. A large proportion of the population is overweight or obese, with a greater prevalence in boys. In short, childhood obesity has a negative impact on body composition and is associated with significant differences in anthropometric parameters, emphasizing the importance of preventative and intervention strategies to address this health problem.

Abstract:This study aimed to report mortality, risk factors, and burden of diseases in Spain. The Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors 2019 estimates the burden due to 369 diseases, injuries, and impairments and 87 risk factors and risk factor combinations. Here, we detail the updated Spain 1990–2019 burden of disease estimates and project certain metrics up to 2030. In 2019, leading causes of death were ischaemic heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Alzheimer's disease, and lung cancer. Main causes of disability adjusted life years (DALYs) were ischaemic heart disease, diabetes, lung cancer, low back pain, and stroke. Leading DALYs risk factors included smoking, high body mass index, and high fasting plasma glucose. Spain scored 74/100 among all health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators, ranking 20 of 195 countries and territories. We forecasted that by 2030, Spain would outpace Japan, the United States, and the European Union. Behavioural risk factors, such as smoking and poor diet, and environmental factors added a significant burden to the Spanish population's health in 2019. Monitoring these trends, particularly in light of COVID-19, is essential to prioritise interventions that will reduce the future burden of disease to meet population health and SDG commitments.

Abstract:BackgroundPrediabetes is a high-risk state for diabetes development, but little is known about the factors associated with this state. The aim of the study was to identify modifiable risk factors associated with the presence of prediabetes in men and women.MethodsCohort Study in Primary Health Care on the Evolution of Patients with Prediabetes (PREDAPS-Study) is a prospective study on a cohort of 1184 subjects with prediabetes and another cohort of 838 subjects without glucose metabolism disorders. It is being conducted by 125 general practitioners in Spain. Data for this analysis were collected during the baseline stage in 2012. The modifiable risk factors included were: smoking habit, alcohol consumption, low physical activity, inadequate diet, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity. To assess independent association between each factor and prediabetes, odds ratios (ORs) were estimated using logistic regression models.ResultsAbdominal obesity, low plasma levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-cholesterol), and hypertension were independently associated with the presence of prediabetes in both men and women. After adjusting for all factors, the respective ORs (95% Confidence Intervals) were 1.98 (1.41-2.79), 1.88 (1.23-2.88) and 1.86 (1.39-2.51) for men, and 1.89 (1.36-2.62), 1.58 (1.12-2.23) and 1.44 (1.07-1.92) for women. Also, general obesity was a risk factor in both sexes but did not reach statistical significance among men, after adjusting for all factors. Risky alcohol consumption was a risk factor for prediabetes in men, OR 1.49 (1.00-2.24).ConclusionsObesity, low HDL-cholesterol levels, and hypertension were modifiable risk factors independently related to the presence of prediabetes in both sexes. The magnitudes of the associations were stronger for men than women. Abdominal obesity in both men and women displayed the strongest association with prediabetes. The findings suggest that there are some differences between men and women, which should be taken into account when implementing specific recommendations to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes in adult population.

Abstract:Background. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence and incidence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and its changes in the last 20 years in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients in Spain. Methods. A systematic review with a meta-analysis was carried out on the studies published between 2001–2020 on the prevalence and incidence of DR and sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy (STDR) in Spain. The articles included were selected from four databases and publications of the Spanish Ministry of Health and Regional Health Care System (RHCS). The meta-analysis to determine heterogeneity and bias between studies was carried out with the MetaXL 4.0. Results. Since 2001, we have observed an increase in the detection of patients with DM, and at the same time, screening programs for RD have been launched; thus, we can deduce that the increase in the detection of patients with DM, many of them in the initial phases, far exceeds the increased detection of patients with DR. The prevalence of DR was higher between 2001 and 2008 with values of 28.85%. These values decreased over the following period between 2009 and 2020 with a mean of 15.28%. Similarly the STDR prevalence decrease from 3.67% to 1.92% after 2008. The analysis of the longitudinal studies determined that the annual DR incidence was 3.83%, and the STDR annual incidence was 0.41%. Conclusion. In Spain, for T2DM, the current prevalence of DR is 15.28% and 1.92% forSTDR. The annual incidence of DR is 3.83% and is 0.41% for STDR.
