Abstract:Exploration of nanocomposites with exceptional catalytic activities is essential for harnessing the unique advantages of each constituent in the domains of pharmaceutical analysis and electrochemical sensing. In this regard, we illustrated the synthesis of iron oxide/N-doped reduced graphene oxide (Fe2O3/N-rGO) nanocomposite through a one-step thermal treatment of iron phthalocyanine (FePc), melamine, and graphene oxide for electrochemical sensing. The large specific surface area and good conductivity of N-rGO can efficiently capture rutin molecules and accelerate the electron transport, thereby improving the electrochemical performance. Moreover, the Fe2O3 nanoparticles with distinct electronic characteristics significantly enhanced the detection sensitivity of the constructed electrochemical platform. Because of the outstanding electrical conductivity, an extensive surface area, and synergistic catalysis, the Fe2O3/N-rGO was employed as an advanced electrode modifier to build an electrochemical sensing platform for rutin detection. Significantly, the manufactured sensor showed a broad detection range from 7 nM to 150 μM and a high sensitivity of 5632 μA mM-1. Furthermore, the fabricated sensor showed desirable results in terms of stability, selectivity, and practical application. This work presents a facile method to prepare Fe2O3/N-rGO and supplies a valuable example for building metal oxide/graphene nanocomposites for electrochemical analysis.

Abstract:A new electrochemical sensor for nanomolar rutin detection based on amine-functionalized Fe3O4 nanoparticles and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode (NH2-Fe3O4 NPs-ErGO/GCE) was fabricated through a simple method, and the X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and electrochemical technique were used to characterize the modified electrode. The electrochemical behavior of rutin on the Fe3O4 NPs-ErGO/GCE was studied in detail. The electrochemical response of rutin at this modified electrode was remarkably higher than that of the bare GCE or other modified GCE (GO/GCE, Fe3O4 NPs-GO/GCE, and ErGO/GCE). Under the optimum determination conditions, Fe3O4 NPs-ErGO/GCE provided rutin with a broader detection range of 6.0 nM–0.1 μM; 0.1–8.0 μM and 8.0–80 μM, a minimum detectable concentration of 4.0 nM was obtained after 210 s accumulation. This novel method was applied in determination of rutin in pharmaceutical tablets and urine samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:The extraordinary biological and physiological properties of rutin have been used in the preparation of therapeutical drugs. So it is very significant to develop a simple and sensitive method for rutin determaination in pharmaceutical samples. Herein, nitrogen and sulfur co-doped reduced graphene oxide attached with gold nanoparticles (NS-rGO/AuNPs) was developed for electrochemical determination of rutin. The NS-rGO was first prepared by a simple one-step thermal annealing method, and AuNPs were embedded onto NS-rGO through the interaction force of Au with N and S atoms. Detailed characterizations showed that the AuNPs are well dispersed and the presence of nitrogen and sulfur are significant. The NS-rGO/AuNPs modified electrode exhibited a significantly enhanced electrocatalytic activity towards rutin compared with NS-rGO, N-rGO and S-rGO modified electrodes. The excellent performance was achieved by the synergistic effect of AuNPs and heteroatoms co-doping. As a consequence, the NS-rGO/AuNPs based sensor showed a wide linear range of 0.2-1400 nM with a nanomolar detection limit of 0.067 nM (S/N=3). Also the sensor exhibited satisfying selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. Finally, the sensor was successfully used to determine rutin in pharmaceutical tablets.

Abstract:A Pd nanoparticles-graphene oxide (PdNPs/GO) hybrid as a highly sensitive sensing platform for determination of rutin was successfully prepared by a facile one-pot redox synthesis approach. Formation of PdNPs and loading onto the GO nanosheets were accomplished simultaneously by a redox reaction between H2PdCl4 and GO, without use of any additional reductants. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results demonstrated that PdNPs with an average size of 60 nm were distributed on the surface of GO nanosheets. Compared with the GO modified electrode, the PdNPs/GO modified electrode showed a better electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of rutin with larger peak current. Then the PdNPs/GO hybrid can be used as an enhanced sensing platform for the electrochemical determination of rutin. Under the optimal conditions, the anodic peak current was linear to the concentration of rutin in the range from 0.005 to 6 mu M with the detection limit of 0.001 mu M (S/N = 3). More importantly, the developed sensor can be used for the determination of rutin in medicine tablets with satisfactory results.

Abstract:Novel core/satellite donut-shaped ZnO–Au nanoparticles (ZnO–Au NPs) were successfully prepared by direct growth of Au nanoparticles on the surface of donut-shaped ZnO. Furthermore, graphene was effectively introduced using the hydrothermal method to construct core/satellite donut-shaped ZnO–Au nanoparticles/reduced graphene oxide composites (ZnO–Au NPs/rGO). The composites were characterized by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and electrochemical methods. The possible formation mechanism was preliminary proposed. The prepared composites were used to construct an electrochemical sensor, and achieved sensitive electrochemical determination of rutin. The electrochemical behavior of rutin at the ZnO–Au NPs/rGO sensor was investigated. Under the optimal conditions, rutin had a significantly increased electrochemical response with a wide detection range of 0.06–6.0 µmol L−1 and low detection limit of 1.0 nmol L−1 (S/N = 3).

Abstract:Hierarchical nanocomposites of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) nanorods array on graphene oxide nanosheets (PEDOT/GO) were synthesized via a liquid-liquid interfacial polymerization method. The synthesized composites were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and Raman spectroscopic studies, and their morphology was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Characterization and surface morphology results indicated that PEDOT with a nanorods-like structure successfully anchored on the surface of GO sheets, which could enhance the electro-active sites of the nanocomposites. Then the obtained PEDOT/GO nanocomposites were utilized to modify glassy carbon electrode and designed for the trace level sensing of rutin. Electrochemical results revealed that the PEDOT/GO nanocomposites modified electrode exhibited larger oxidation peak currents of rutin than pure PEDOT and GO owing to the synergistic effect of GO and PEDOT nanorods. Under optimized conditions, the anodic peak current was linear to the concentration of rutin in the range from 0.004 to 60 mu M with the detection limit of 0.00125 mu M. Abstract:Herein, the nanocomposites of SnO2 nanoparticles on the nitrogen-doped graphene (SnO2/NG) as a sensitive electrochemical sensing platform for rutin determination were easily prepared via a facile hydrothermal method. The results showed that the existence of NG in SnO2/NG composites could dramatically improve the conductivity, facilitate the electron transfer and enhance the electro-catalytic activity of rutin. Compared with pure SnO2, NG and SnO2/graphene, the as-prepared SnO2/NG nanocomposite presented improved electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of rutin due to the synergetic effects from SnO2 and NG. Combined with differential pulse voltammetry, the prepared sensor based on SnO2/NG modified electrode displayed a wide linear range from 0.4 nM to 2 mu M with a detection limit of 0.2 nM. The modified electrode exhibited high stability and reproducibility as well as good selectivity. These results suggest that SnO2/NG could be successfully applied for detecting rutin in practical samples.

Abstract:Rutin, as a biological flavonoid glycoside, has very important medicinal value. The accurate and rapid detection of rutin is of great significance. Herein, an ultrasensitive electrochemical rutin sensor based on β-cyclodextrin metal–organic framework/reduced graphene oxide (β-CD-Ni-MOF-74/rGO) was constructed. The obtained β-CD-Ni-MOF-74 was characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and nitrogen adsorption and desorption. The β-CD-Ni-MOF-74/rGO presented good electrochemical properties benefiting from the large specific surface area and good adsorption enrichment effect of β-CD-Ni-MOF-74 and the good conductivity of rGO. Under optimal conditions for the detection of rutin, the β-CD-Ni-MOF-74/rGO/GCE showed a wider linear range (0.06–1.0 μM) and lower detection limit (LOD, 0.68 nM, (S/N = 3)). Furthermore, the sensor shows good accuracy and stability for the detection of rutin in actual samples.

Abstract:A functionalized nanocomposites composed of multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 ) and β -cyclodextrin (CD) was prepared. The MWCNTs-CD-Fe 3 O 4 modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) displayed good electrochemical response towards rutin (Ru). The detection linear range and the detection limit of the electrochemical sensor for Ru were 0.02–10 μ M and 16.4 nM, respectively. The results of actual sample detection were consistent with those of ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). The modified materials were also analyzed by UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis),transmission electrode microscope (TEM), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), respectively. The prepared nanocomposites integrate the excellent electric conductivity and electrocatalytic activity of MWCNTs and Fe 3 O 4 , as well as the disperse ability of CD, and may play a synergistic role in the electrochemical response of the modified electrode towards Ru. Moreover, the prepared sensor had good anti-interference ability and potential application in the actual content detection of drugs.

Abstract:A novel rutin (RT) electrochemical sensor was fabricated by using reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/magnetite (Fe3O4)/silver nanoparticle (Ag)-molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) composite to modify screen-printed electrode (SPE). The ternary composite of rGO/Fe3O4/Ag was prepared by the one-step solvothermal method. Subsequently, RT molecules were absorbed on the surface of rGO/ Fe3O4/Ag due to the electrostatic force. Finally, the MIP was achieved by a polymerization reaction. The prepared composite was investigated by FTIR, XRD and VSM. The morphologies and electrochemical properties of different electrodes were characterized with FE-SEM, EIS, CV and DPV. Under the optimal conditions, the SPE│rGO/Fe3O4/Ag-MIP electrode exhibited highly sensitive and selective in determining of RT. The linear detection ranges (LDRs) were 1.0×10-2 to 10.0 μM (R=0.9978) and 10.0 to 3.0×103 μM (R=0.9965). The limit of detection (LOD) was as low as 4.2×10-3 μM (S/N=3). The proposed electrode was renewable, stable and reliable. It was used for determining RT in pharmaceutical samples with satisfactory results, confirming its promising application in routine RT analysis.

Abstract:In this work, multi-layer Ti3C2 - carbon nanotubes - gold nanoparticles (Ti3C2-CNTs-Au) and cyclodextrin metal-organic framework - carbon nanotubes (CD-MOF-CNTs) have been prepared by in situ growth method and used to construct the ultra-sensitive rutin electrochemical sensor for the first time. Among them, the large number of metal active sites of Ti3C2, the high electron transfer efficiency of CNTS, and the good catalytic properties of AuNPs significantly enhance the electrochemical properties of the composite carbon nanomaterials. Interestingly, CD-MOF has a unique host-guest recognition and a large number of cavities, molecular gaps, and surface reactive groups, which gives the composite outstanding accumulation properties and selectivity for rutin. Under the optimized conditions, the constructed novel sensor has satisfactory detection performance for rutin in the range of 2 × 10-9 to 8 × 10-7 M with a limit of detection of 6.5 × 10-10 M. In addition, the sensor exhibits amazing anti-interference performance against rutin in some flavonoid compounds and can be used to test natural plant samples (buckwheat, Cymbopogon distans, and flos sophorae immaturus). This work has promising applications in the field of environmental and food analysis, and exploring new directions for the application of Mxene-based composites.

Abstract:A highly sensitive electrochemical sensing electrode was developed for the determination of rutin based on 3D porous carbon and CoWO4 nanosheets.The electrochemical signal of rutin is mainly based on its concentration at the electrode surface. The introduction of porous carbon as a conducting support significantly improved the electrochemical performance of 3D CoWO4 for sensing rutin, and the method was successfully applied for the determination of rutin in crushed tablets and human serum samples.Rutin, a flavonoid found in fruits and vegetables, is a potential anticancer compound with strong anticancer activity. Therefore, electrochemical sensing electrode was developed for its detection is important. In this study, CoWO4 nanosheets were synthesized via a hydrothermal method, and porous carbon (PC) was prepared via high-temperature pyrolysis. Successful preparation of the materials was confirmed, and characterization was performed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A mixture of porous carbon and CoWO4 nanosheets was used as an electrode modifier to fabricate the electrochemical sensor for the electrochemical determination of rutin. The 3D CoWO4 nanosheets exhibited high electrocatalytic activity and good stability. PC has a high surface-to-volume ratio and superior conductivity. Moreover, the hydrophobicity of PC allows large amounts of rutin to be adsorbed, there by increasing the concentration of rutin at the electrode surface. Owing to the synergistic effect of the 3D CoWO4 nanosheets and PC, the developed electrochemical sensor was employed to quantitively determine rutin with high stability and sensitivity. The sensor showed a good linear range (5–5000 ng/mL) with a detection limit of 0.45 ng/mL. The developed sensor was successfully applied to the determination of rutin in crushed tablets and human serum samples.

Abstract:To build a portable and sensitive method for monitoring the concentration of the flavonoid rutin, a new electrochemical sensing procedure was established. By using nitrogen-doped carbonized polymer dots (N-CPDs) anchoring few-layer black phosphorene (N-CPDs@FLBP) 0D-2D heterostructure and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as the modifiers, a carbon ionic liquid electrode and a screen-printed electrode (SPE) were used as the substrate electrodes to construct a conventional electrochemical sensor and a portable wireless intelligent electrochemical sensor, respectively. The electrochemical behavior of rutin on the fabricated electrochemical sensors was explored in detail, with the analytical performances investigated. Due to the electroactive groups of rutin, and the specific π-π stacking and cation–π interaction between the nanocomposite with rutin, the electrochemical responses of rutin were greatly enhanced on the AuNPs/N-CPDs@FLBP-modified electrodes. Under the optimal conditions, ultra-sensitive detection of rutin could be realized on AuNPs/N-CPDs@FLBP/SPE with the detection range of 1.0 nmol L−1 to 220.0 μmol L−1 and the detection limit of 0.33 nmol L−1 (S/N = 3). Finally, two kinds of sensors were applied to test the real samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:Rutin (RU) is a common flavonoid compound that has attracted widespread attention. Accurately and quickly detecting RU is crucial. Herein, a novel electrochemical RU sensor based on in-situ salt template two-dimension ZIF-derived ultra-thin zinc/cobalt@ nitrogen doped carbon nanosheets composites modified glassy carbon electrode (Zn/Co@N-CNSs/GCE) was constructed. Zn/Co-ZIF was synthesized by in-situ salt template method and the ultra-thin sheet structure Zn/Co@N-CNSs were obtained by directly pyrolysis Zn/Co-ZIF and template removal showing good electrochemical performance for rutin detection, which benefited from the sheet structure with larger surface. For the detection of rutin, the Zn/Co@N-CNSs/GCE showed wider linear range (10 nM - 1000 nM) and lower detection limit (LOD, 2.7 nM). In addition, the sensor achieved good recovery and accuracy in detecting RU in actual samples (RU tablets and orange juice).

Abstract:Three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide aerogel (3D rGA) was synthesized by hydrothermal method and cobalt imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) was further grown in situ on the 3D rGA matrix directly. The resultant rGA nanocomposite was checked by different techniques including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The presence of 3D rGA acted as the backbone for the loading of ZIF-67, and the resultant rGA nanocomposite exhibited an interconnected porous structure with large surface area and high conductivity due to synergistic effects, which was applied to the electrode modification and used for rutin detection. The developed method showed excellent performance with a wider linear range (0.05–200.0 μmol/L) and lower detection limit (0.028 ± 0.0016 μmol/L, S/N=3). Various samples including the compounded rutin tablets and onions were analyzed by this modified electrode with satisfactory results.

Abstract:In this paper, a highly sensitive voltammetric method for determination of rutin is developed using multi-walled carbon nanotubes- aminate reduced graphene oxide (MWCNTs/ARGO) modified electrode. The incorporated ARGO served as dispersing agent and conductive sheet, which could effectively prevented aggregation of MWCNTs. Compared with either MWCNTs or ARGO, the hybrid nanomaterials showed a strong synergistic effect between two materials and exhibited higher activity for the electro-oxidation of rutin. MWCNTs/ARGO composite was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Under the optimized conditions, MWCNTs/ARGO modified electrode exhibited wide linear range from 0.01 to 112 mu M with the detection limit of 2 nM (S/N = 3). Moreover, the proposed method was successfully applied to determine rutin in compound rutin tablets and satisfactory results were obtained.

Abstract:A magnetic bar carbon paste electrode (MBCPE) modified with cobalt ferrite magnetic electrospun nanofibers (NFs) and graphene oxide (GO) is described for the electrochemical determination of rutin. The NFs were prepared by electrospinning using a solution that contains poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and Co(II) and Fe(III) nitrates as metal sources. Carbon paste was prepared by hand mixing GO, CoFe2O4 NFs and graphite. This paste was then packed into the end of a glass tube and a very small magnetic bar was inserted into the tube to be coated with the carbon paste to provide a magnetic field. The MBCPE was used to attract the magnetic nanofibers to the electrode surface. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry techniques were used to study the electrochemical behavior of rutin on the modified MBCPE at pH 2.5. The electrocatalytic current, best measured at a potential of around 0.5 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), varies with the rutin concentration in two linear ranges, viz. from 0.001–0.1 nM and from 1.0–100 nM, with a 0.94 pM detection limit. The electrode was successfully applied to the determination of rutin in lemon, red apple, lime and orange juices.

Abstract:Carbon materials derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are doped with metal nanoparticles. They thus feature porous structures and many metallic active sites, showing excellent electrochemical performance (e.g., high catalytic activity and good electroconductibility). In the present work, hierarchical porous carbon nanorods doped with a bimetallic Fe/M (M = Co, Ni, Mn) alloy (FeM@C) are synthesized via simply pyrolyzing bimetallic MOFs (FeM-MIL-88B). As an electrocatalyst, the FeM@C composite is proved to be highly efficient in electrochemical sensing of pharmaceutical products, acetaminophen (AC) and rutin (RT) as the case studies in this work. FeCo@C displays higher electrochemical sensing capability over the FeNi@C and FeMn@C composites, attributed to the alloying-induced synergetic effect from Fe and Co. An established FeCo@C electrochemical sensor offers the linear ranges of 0.001–0.8 μM and 0.01–2 μM for the detection of AC and RT, respectively. Their detection limits are 0.59 and 3.41 nM, respectively. This sensor has been successfully applied for the determination of AC and RT in real drug samples with a respective recovery rate of 93.3%–101.6%. This study paves a way to design effective bimetal alloy nanoparticles and explore their applications in electrochemical sensing.

Abstract:In this work, we designed a metal-organic framework (MOF) derived cobalt nanoparticles encapsulated nitrogen-rich carbon with nickel iron-layered double hydroxide (Co-NC@NiFe-LDH) for real time electrochemical analysis of the antioxidant flavonoid-rutin (RUT). The prepared composite was examined by various analytical techniques, cyclic voltammetry, and differential pulse voltammetry. A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with Co-NC@NiFe-LDH (Co-NC@NiFe-LDH/GCE) exhibited superior response for RUT along with excellent reproducibility, sensitivity, and selectivity which is attributed to the synergistic effects between the Co-NC and NiFe-LDH, and enable excellent electron transfer across the electrode-electrolyte interface. The Co-NC@NiFe-LDH/GCE responds linearly to RUT concentrations of 0.01 − 20.10 μM and 20.10 − 267.31 μM, with a limit of detection (LOD) and higher sensitivity of 5 nM and 11.898 μA μM –1 cm −2 , respectively. These exceptional features of Co-NC@NiFe-LDH arise from its significant active sites, substantial surface area, and excellent electrolyte accessibility. The Co-NC@NiFe-LDH/GCE offers improved stability, with the initial oxidation peak current decreasing by ≤ 5% over 25 days of air exposure. The sensor demonstrated substantial recovery levels of 96.99 − 98.70%, 96.15 − 99.76%, and 97.86 − 99.74% for real-time analyses of serum, urine, and medicinal samples. This study paves the way for advanced sensing platforms in biomedicine and clinical applications, capitalizing on nanohybrid design.
