Abstract:This article investigates the adaptive fuzzy asynchronous control problem for discrete-time nonhomogeneous Markov jump power systems under hybrid attacks. A nonhomogeneous Markov process is used to describe the phenomenon of transient failures occurring in power lines and subsequent switching of associated circuit breakers. The corresponding nonhomogeneous hidden Markov model is utilized to detect the jump modes of power systems. Both deception attack and denial-of-service attack are analyzed simultaneously owing to the vulnerability of power systems. With detected modes and fuzzy logic systems, an adaptive fuzzy asynchronous control strategy is proposed. Using the mode-dependent Lyapunov function, the existence conditions of the desired controller law are obtained such that the closed-loop power systems are bounded stable in the mean-square sense. Finally, the usefulness of the developed control strategy is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of dissipativitybased asynchronous fault detection (FD) for Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy Markov jump systems with network data dropouts. It is assumed that data dropouts happen intermittently from the plant to the FD filter, which is described by Bernoulli process. The hidden Markov model is employed to describe the asynchronous phenomenon between the plant and filter. Based on Lyapunov theory, a sufficient condition is developed to guarantee that the FD system is stochastically stable with strictly dissipative performance. By choosing an appropriate Lyapunov function with the slack matrix technique and Finsler's Lemma, two approaches are proposed to compute filter gains by solving linear matrix inequalities. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed design methods.

Abstract:<p>This work investigates the asynchronous fault detection filtering issue for discrete-time piecewise homogeneous Markov jump systems. By resorting to a dual hidden Markov model, an asynchronous fault detection filter is presented which can follow up the system modes. Utilizing the stochastic Lyapunov function approach, sufficient conditions are devised to make the resultant Markov jump systems be stochastically stable and hold a specified <span class="math"><math>H∞</math></span> performance level. Finally, a real-time experiment based on the automotive electronic throttle body is employed to validate the devised asynchronous fault detection filter which can find the faults after the occurrences in the case of no false alarm.</p>

Abstract:In modern industrial applications, production quality, system performance, process reliability, and safety have received considerable attention. This article proposes a dynamic event-triggered attack estimator for Markovian jump stochastic systems susceptible to actuator deception attacks. Utilizing the developed estimator, the presented attack-tolerant control strategy can tolerate the effects of such attacks and ensure the mean-square convergence of the overall closed-loop system. A dynamic event-triggered mechanism is implemented on the sensor side to optimize communication efficiency. To address the potential threat of deception attacks, a plug-and-play (PnP) secure monitoring and control architecture is introduced. This architecture facilitates the seamless integration of the designed attack-tolerant controller with the nominal feedback controller, thereby enhancing system security without requiring significant modifications to the existing control structure. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approaches are demonstrated through experimental results on a switched boost converter circuit.

Abstract:This paper delves into the challenge concerning the development of an asynchronous and resilient dissipative filter tailored for discrete-time Markov jump singularly perturbed systems (MJSPSs) encountering hybrid cyber attacks. To alleviate the communication network's transmission burden further, we propose dynamic event triggering control strategy. Given the influence of both deception attacks and denial-of-service attacks on the discrete-time MJSPSs systems under consideration, we initially devise a novel hybrid cyber attacks model to integrate these two attack categories seamlessly. An asynchronous filter is meticulously devised, taking into account the formidable task of acquiring mode information from the Markov chain. Consequently, we introduce a hidden Markov model to delineate the asynchronous scenario between the modes of the original Markov chain and the designed asynchronous filter. By formulating the Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional with respect to the singular perturbation parameter, we establish sufficient conditions for achieving stochastic stability with specified dissipative performance for the closed-loop discrete-time MJSPSs. Subsequently, we present the systematic design approach for the non-synchronous filter and the dynamic event triggering control strategy. Finally, we provide a practical demonstration through numerical experimentation and the realization of a tunnel diode circuit system to validate the theoretical insights.

Abstract:This article focuses on the issue of nonstationary filtering for uncertain fuzzy Markov switching affine systems (FMSASs) with quantization effects and deception attacks (DAs). The resulting FMSASs are comprised of Markov switching piecewise-affine systems over a set of operating regions. To characterize the multinetwork-induced constraints, the measurement output is quantized before being transmitted, and a compensation scheme is applied to tackle the quantized measurement output loss intermittently. Meanwhile, the randomly occurring DAs are involved, in which the attack behaviors are identified by the bounded stochastic signals. Differently, to deal with the multinetwork-induced constraints, a novel nonstationary region-dependent affine filter strategy is developed. By resorting to a mode-dependent and region-dependent Lyapunov functional and S-procedure theory, sufficient conditions are elicited such that the filtering error system is mean-square exponentially stable. Finally, the practicability of the derived results is verified by a practical tunnel diode circuit model.

Abstract:The problem of fault detection for two-dimensional (2D) Markov jump systems characterized in the form of Roesser model is considered in this paper. An asynchronous fault detection filter is designed to produce a residual signal. The fault detection filter changes from one mode to another asynchronously with the plant’s transitions. More specifically, the filter’s mode transitions depend on the plant’s mode through some conditional probabilities. Moreover, the transition probabilities of the plant and the conditional probabilities are only partially accessible, which appears more practical in real application systems. Under such a framework, sufficient conditions are developed to ensure the asymptotic mean square stability and (Q, R, S)-μ-dissipativity of the overall fault detection system. The parameters in the fault detection filter are given in terms of solutions of an optimization problem. Finally, some simulations are carried out to demonstrate the validity of the presented design techniques.

Abstract:In this work, the asynchronous dynamic output feedback control is investigated for discrete nonlinear networked semi-Markov jump models with cyber attacks, in which asynchronous phenomenon refers to the mode mismatch between the controller and the system. For the potential uncertainty of system parameters, the interval type-2 fuzzy method is adopted to characterize nonlinear semi-Markov jump models. In light of actual state information unavailable in complex environment, the dynamic output feedback technique is proposed. The main novelty is to construct an appropriate dynamic output feedback control scheme, fully consider the asynchronous phenomenon of the controller mode, and introduce auxiliary variables to solve the matrix dimensional problem, so that the IT2 fuzzy network semi-Markov jump models under the influence of cyber attacks have better dynamic performance. According to stochastic theory, semi-Markov kernel, interval type-2 fuzzy method, and dwell-time-dependent Lyapunov function, sufficient criteria are established to ensure that the networked system is v-error mean-square stable under random denial-of-service attacks. Furthermore, numerically checkable conditions are formulated to solve the asynchronous dynamic output feedback controller gain. Finally, a two-degree-freedom quarter-car suspension model is given to explain the superiorities of the proposed design approach. Note to Practitioners-As one of the research hotspots, networked control systems show outstanding advantages of low maintenance cost, easy installation, and high flexibility. However, cyber attacks often occur in networked control systems, posing a great threat to signal transmission. With the development of modern science and technology, semi-Markov jump models, owing to their excellent engineering background in modeling complex system, have a wide range of application prospects in solar receiver control, power electronics, chemical processes, and network communication. Note that some factors in the practical dynamical systems, such as parameter uncertainty and dwell information, cannot be completely obtained, and actual controller mode has switching delay with the system mode. In this paper, the asynchronous output feedback control is studied for discrete nonlinear networked semi-Markov jump models with cyber attacks. On the basis of interval type-2 fuzzy and dwell-time-dependent Lyapunov function, the v-error mean-square stability is realized under random denial-of-service attacks. This research provides a new approach to study output feedback control strategies for discrete networked systems.

Abstract:This paper concerns asynchronous finite-time event-triggered H ∞ filtering design for neutral semi-Markovian jumping systems (S-MJSs) under malicious hybrid attacks. Firstly, based on event-triggered mechanism (ETM), time-delay and random cyber attacks, asynchronous filtering is addressed. Secondly, sufficient conditions are deduced that the filtering error system is stochastic H ∞ finite-time bounded (S H ∞ FTB). Meanwhile, we provide novel results on stochastic H ∞ finite-time contractively bounded (S H ∞ FTCB) for the S-MJSs under ETM and cyber attacks. Finally, an example with engineering background is presented to exemplify the effectiveness of our results.

Abstract:This article considers the problem of asynchronous attack tolerant control for a type of Markov jump cyber-physical systems (MJCPSs) suffering hybrid cyber-attacks. In the measurement channel, the Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack and deception attack are cogitated simultaneously. Meanwhile, the impact generated by the deficiency of plant mode information due to cyber-attacks is described via the partial unknown mode transition probability and the asynchronization between the plant and the controller. On these bases, a detected-mode-dependent asynchronous dynamic controller with a certain capacity to resist malevolent cyber-attacks is proposed. Then, to guarantee the stochastic stability and reach the designated H∞ performance for MJCPSs under hybrid cyber-attacks, sufficient conditions are given by means of some decoupling technologies. Finally, the effectiveness of the presented control tactic is demonstrated, which is supported by an application on a linearized F-404 engine system.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of finite-time asynchronous H filtering for a class of discrete-time Markov jump systems. The communication links between the system and filter are assumed to be unreliable, which lead to the simultaneous occurrences of packet dropouts, time delays, sensor nonlinearity and nonsynchronous modes. The objective is to design a filter that ensures not only the mean-square stochastic finite-time bounded but also a prescribed level of H performance for the underlying error system over a lossy network. With the help of the Lyapunov-Krasovskii approach and stochastic analysis theory, sufficient conditions are established for the existence of an admissible filter. By using a novel simple matrix decoupling approach, a desired asynchronous filter can be constructed. Finally, a numerical example is presented and a pulse-width-modulation-driven boost converter model is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Abstract:This paper delves into the problem of asynchronous fault detection filter (AFDF) for Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy singular semi-Markovian jump systems (FSSJSs) with multi-cyber-attacks via dynamic event-triggering mechanism (ETM) and double-quantized schemes (DQS). First, a new design structure is devised by integrating the ETM and DQS into a unified framework to effectively alleviate the communication pressure. In particular, the event-triggered threshold (ETT) is dynamically regulated in line with system information, and not only the data from the plant to the filter but also that from the filter to the plant, are both quantized using different logarithmic quantizers. Second, the hybrid cyber-attacks platform is adopted, of which including the random deception attacks (DAs), random replay attacks (RAs) and DoS attack. Third, leveraging the principles of Lyapunov theory, some sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the exponential admissibility (EA) of the resulting error dynamics and their adherence to a prescribed H∞$$\mathcal {H}_{\infty }$$ performance index. Through the utilization of several matrix inequalities, the desired filtering gains are given. Finally, the effectiveness of the achieved results is demonstrated by two examples.

Abstract:Summary This paper concentrates on the problem of asynchronous H∞ filtering for singular Markov jump systems under DoS attacks, in which the unknown probability information cases are considered. To better describe cyber security problem, DoS attacks are considered as encountered randomly and modeled by a set of stochastic variables obeying Bernoulli distribution. Besides, hidden Markov model with partially known probability information is proposed to handle the cases that the Markov state information of the system is restrictedly accessed, and the transition probability information and observation probability information can not be directly obtained. A set of criteria are derived to analyze the regularity, causality, and stochastic stability for the filtering error system with an H∞ performance index. Furthermore, an asynchronous filter design method is proposed to against DoS attacks. Finally, a numerical example and a practical example modeled by a DC motor are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:The paper investigates the asynchronous H-infinity filtering design problem for continuous-time linear systems with Markov jump. The hidden Markov jump principle is applied to represent the asynchronous situation between the target system and the designed filter. Via a Lyapunov technique, two sufficient conditions are developed to guarantee that the filtering error system is stochastically stable with a prescribed H-infinity noise attenuation level. Furthermore, three filtering design approaches are developed in the form of linear matrix inequalities. Abstract:In this article, the dissipativity-based filtering of the Markovian jump neural networks subject to incomplete measurements and deception attacks is investigated by adopting an event-triggered communication strategy, where the attackers are supposed to occur in a random fashion but obey the Bernoulli distribution. Consider that the information of the system mode is transmitted to the filter over the communication network that is vulnerable to external attacks, which may lead to the undesired performance of the resulting system by injecting malicious information from the attackers. As a result, the filter has difficulty completing information from the original system. Besides, an event-triggered communication mechanism is introduced to reduce the communication frequency between data transmission due to the limited network resources, and different triggering conditions corresponding to different jump modes are developed. Then, based on the above considerations, the sufficient condition is derived to ensure the stochastic stability and dissipativity of the resulting augmented system although the deception attacks and incomplete information exist. A numerical simulated example is provided to verify the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:Based on the interval type-2 fuzzy (IT2F) approach, this article investigates the fault detection filter design problem for a class of nonhomogeneous higher level Markov jump systems with uncertain transition probabilities. Considering that the mode information of the system cannot be obtained synchronously by the filter, the hidden Markov model can be seen as a detector to handle this asynchronous problem, and the parameter uncertainty can be processed by the IT2F approach with the lower and upper membership functions. Then, the asynchronous IT2F filter is designed to deal with the fault detection problem. Furthermore, the Gaussian transition probability density function is introduced to describe the uncertainty transition probabilities of the system and the filter. Based on the Lyapunov theory, the existence of the designed asynchronous IT2F filter and the dissipativity of the filter error system can be well ensured. In this article, the simulation study on a quarter-car suspension system verifies that the designed asynchronous IT2F filter can detect faults without error alarms.

Abstract:The secure asynchronous control problem of Markov jump systems (MJSs) against aperiodic discrete denial-of-service (DoS) attacks is discussed in this brief. DoS attacks cut off the communication networks, resulting in the loss of state information. The impact of DoS attacks may cause mismatched behavior between controlled plant modes and controller modes, which can be illustrated by a hidden Markov model (HMM). An asynchronous controller is utilized to overcome the mismatched phenomenon. By employing multiple Lyapunov functions and iterative methods, and analyzing the conditions on malicious DoS attacks, sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee mean square stable of MJSs under aperiodic DoS attacks. By solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), the asynchronous controller is designed. At last, the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical method is certified by a numerical simulation.

Abstract:The distributed asynchronous passive filtering problem is studied for nonlinear Markov jump systems subject to packet loss. In the distributed case, the asynchronous phenomenon between the filters and system, which is more complicated than the common ones, is handled by introducing a mutually independent Markov chain. A sufficient condition for passive performance is proposed for the filtering error system via a mode-dependent Lyapunov functional, based on which the filter design scheme is also outlined by explicitly characterizing the filter parameters in terms of matrix inequalities.

Abstract:This paper investigates the reduced-order filter design method for fuzzy Markov jump affine systems with dynamic event-triggered protocol and uncertain packet dropouts. Aiming at approximating the nonlinearities with high accuracy and broadening practical application, the fuzzy Markov jump affine systems associated with mode-dependent operating regions are developed. A novel nonhomogeneous Markov process is proposed to describe the generalized stochastic jumping among subsystems, whose time-varying transition probabilities are orchestrated by a higher-level deterministic switching signal. Compared with the conventional Markov process with arbitrary switchings, the average dwell-time strategy is adopted in the novel nonhomogeneous Markov process to improve the dynamic performance. A dynamic event-triggered protocol is provided to alleviate the network transmission burden by elongating the interval between any two consecutive events. Based on the variation of state-space partitions, nonsynchronous reduced-order generalized filters are considered. Under this framework, sufficient criteria are attained to ensure stochastic stability and prescribed l2−l∞ performance for the filtering error systems. Eventually, the theoretical findings are verified by two simulation examples.
