Abstract:Introduction: Free radicals and oxidative stress play a central role in the generation and development of acute gastric mucosal lesions (AGML).Traditional Chinese medicine has its unique effect in removing oxygen free radicals and reducing gastric mucosa injury.Polygonum hydropiper L is extensively used as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine for treating gastrointestinal diseases in China, the reports shows that it possess various pharmacological activities, especially antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.Objective: This study was to investigate the protective effect of extracts from Polygonum hydropiper on experimentally-induced AGML in mice. Methods:The AGML mice model was induced by ethanol, Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were used to measure the antioxidant activity.The nitric monoxide (NO) and PGE2 contents were tested. Results:The findings demonstrated that the extracts enhanced the activities of antioxidative enzymes SOD and GSH-Px and decreased the level of MDA in the serum and gastric tissues.The higher-concentration extract (1.78 g kg -1 ) had higher antioxidative activities than the lower-concentration extract (0.89 g kg -1 ).Both extracts increased the production of PGE2and decreased the NO level in gastric tissues.In addition, oral administration of absolute ethanol to mice significantly produced extensive hemorrhagic lesions of gastric mucosa, whereas animals pretreated with extract or ranitidine significantly reduced the formation of gastric lesions compared to control group.The extract could decrease distinctly the acute gastric mucosal damage index compared to the model group.The high-dose extract treatment obviously reduced injuries in the gland region after administration of ethanol compared to the model group. Conclusion:The results obtained from this study showed that extracts from Polygonum hydropiper L exhibited significant protective effects against ethanol-induced AGML, and these are closely associated with antioxidant effect.
Gastroprotective Effects of PMK-S005 against Ethanol-Induced Acute Gastric Damage in Rats

Abstract:BACKGROUND/AIMS: This study aimed to examine the gastroprotective effects of PMK-S005, which is a synthetic S-allyl-Lcysteine (SAC; a sulfur-containing amino acid), against acute ethanol-induced gastric damage in rats.METHODS: Sprague- Dawley rats were divided into six groups, including a nonethanol group, groups treated with absolute ethanol 1 hour after pretreatment with various doses of PMK-S005 (1, 5, and 10 mg/kg) or rebamipide (50 mg/kg), and an absolute ethanolonly group. Ethanol-induced gross ulcer and mucus levels were measured. Myeloperoxidase, tumor necrosis factor a, interleukin 1β, PGE₂, LTB₄, cPLA₂, COX-1, and COX-2 levels were estimated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay or Western blot analysis. Furthermore, the protein expression levels of antioxidant enzymes, including heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), NAD(P)Hquinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO-1), GCLC, and GCLM, were assessed.RESULTS: PMK-S005 significantly attenuated the ethanol-induced gastric damage; it reduced mucosal inflammatory cytokine production and increased mucus levels. The expression levels of cPLA₂, COX-1, and COX-2 were decreased by PMK-S005. PMK-S005 did not affect PGE₂ synthesis, but LTB₄ production was significantly suppressed. In addition, long-term administration of PMKS005 significantly increased the expression of HO-1, NQO-1, GCLC, and GCLM.CONCLUSIONS: These results strongly suggest that PMK-S005 prevents gastric mucosal damage and that these gastroprotective activities are due to anti-inflammatory effects and enhancement of the gastric defense system, including antioxidant enzymes.

Anti-ulcerogenic Potential of Kalanchoë gastonis-bonnieri Extracts in Male ICR Mice Model of Ethanol-induced Gastric Ulcers

Abstract:Peptic ulcers (PU) are a breach in the mucosa of the digestive tract and are related to several factors including an altered immune system and an unbalanced diet. Current treatment carries to long-term complications; therefore, the use of medicinal plants is an alternative for several inflammatory diseases including ulcerative lesions. Kalanchoë gastonis-bonnieri, is a succulent plant and, has been used in traditional medicine against gastric ulcers, inflammation, and cancer among others. The main goal of this work was to analyze the anti-ulcerogenic potential of extracts from leaves of K. gastonis-bonnieri in an assay of ethanol-induced gastric ulcers. An ethanolic extract was obtained by maceration from fresh leaves of K. gastonis-bonnieri, and fractions were obtained through bipartition and chemical fractioning. The chemical characterization of the extract was made through HPLC, GC-MS, and NMR. Total extract and fractions showed an anti-ulcerogenic effect in specimens of male ICR mice with a gastric ulcer index (UI) of 3.27-5.47. The recorded effect is attributed to the presence of terpenoid compounds such as β-Amyrin acetate, which showed antioxidant properties and lessened formations of ulcers induced by ethanol administration in mice stomach.
The Gastroprotective Effect of Naringenin against Ethanol-Induced Gastric Ulcers in Mice through Inhibiting Oxidative and Inflammatory Responses

Abstract:Naringenin is a major flavanone found in grapes, tangelos, blood oranges, lemons, pummelo, and tangerines. It is known to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antimutagenic, antifibrogenic, and antiatherogenic pharmacological properties. This study aims to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of naringenin in ethanol-induced gastric damage in vivo and ethanol-stimulated KATO III cells in vitro. Our results showed that pretreatment with naringenin significantly protected mice from ethanol-induced hemorrhagic damage, epithelial cell loss, and edema with leucocytes. It reduced gastric ulcers (GU) by suppressing ethanol-induced nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activity and decreasing the levels of nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and myeloperoxidase (MPO). In addition, pretreatment with naringenin might inhibit the secretion of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8, as well as the proteins cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) via the suppression of NF-κB and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling in ethanol-stimulated stomach epithelial KATO III cells. Together, the results of this study highlight the gastroprotective effect of naringenin in GU of mice by inhibiting gastric secretion and acidity, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, suppressing NF-κB activity, and restoring the histological architecture. These findings suggested that naringenin has therapeutic potential in the alleviation of ethanol-induced GU.

Development of gastric cancer in nonatrophic stomach with highly active inflammation identified by serum levels of pepsinogen and Helicobacter pylori antibody together with endoscopic rugal hyperplastic gastritis

Abstract:This study aimed to elucidate groups at high risk of developing cancer among patients with serologically identified Helicobacter pylori infection and nonatrophic stomach. Annual endoscopy was performed for a mean of 5.4 years in 496 asymptomatic middle‐aged men who were H. pylori antibody‐positive and pepsinogen (PG) test‐negative. Subjects were stratified according to the activity of H. pylori‐associated gastritis measured by serum levels of PG and H. pylori antibody, and/or by endoscopic findings of rugal hyperplastic gastritis (RHG), and cancer development was investigated. During the study period, seven cases of cancer developed in the cohort (incidence rate, 261/100,000 person‐years), with 85.7% developing in the group showing a PGI/II ratio ≤3.0, reflecting active inflammation‐based high PGII levels. Cancer incidence was significantly higher in this group (750/100,000 person‐years) than in groups with less active gastritis. Furthermore, cancer incidence for this group was significantly higher in the subgroup with high H. pylori antibody titers than in the low‐titer subgroup. Meanwhile, endoscopic findings revealed that 11.7% of subjects showed RHG reflecting localized highly active inflammation, and cancer risk was significantly higher in patients with RHG than in patients without. Combining the two serum tests and endoscopic examination for RHG allowed identification of subjects with more active gastritis and higher cancer risk. No cancer development was observed in these high‐risk subjects after H. pylori eradication. Subjects with highly active gastritis identified by the two serological tests and endoscopic RHG constitute a group at high risk of cancer development with H. pylori‐infected nonatrophic stomach.
Protective Effects of Grape Seed Proanthocyanidin Extract in Preventing DSS Induced Ulcerative Colitis Based on Pharmacodynamic, Pharmacokinetic and Tissue Distribution

Abstract:Background: Based on pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and tissue distribution studies, we explored the potential effect of grape seed proanthocyanidin extract (GSPE) on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) -induced ulcerative colitis in mice and its underlying mechanism. Methods: A liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method was developed to measure the content of five components of GSPE in rat plasma and tissue. After oral administration of GSPE, correlative index levels of interleukin- 1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), factor-α (TNF-α), Nitric Oxide (NO), malonaldehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were detected in the serum and colon tissues. The protein expression levels of HO-1, Nrf2 and NF-κB in the mouse colonic mucosa were analysed using immunohistochemistry. Results: Pharmacodynamic tests showed substantially reduced mice body weight, diarrhea, and bloody stool in the model group. The pathological damage to the colonic mucosa of mice in the GSPE groups was remarkably reduced in a dose-dependent manner. The histopathological score of the colon in the model group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P <0.05), suggesting that DSS caused severe damage to the colon. After oral administration of GSPE, the serum and colonic tissue levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, NO, and MDA decreased, whereas SOD content increased. Moreover, the protein levels of NF-κB and Keap-1 were significantly decreased, whereas the expression levels of Nrf2 and HO-1 proteins increased (P<0.01) based on the results of the microwaveimmunohistochemical assay. The pharmacokinetic results showed that catechin, epicatechin, and procyanidins B1, B2, and B4 are widely distributed in the tissues and blood of rats and may accumulate in some tissues. Catechin and epicatechin peaked at 0.25 and 1.5 h for the first and second time, respectively. Procyanidin B1, B2, and B4 peaked at 0.5 and 1.5 h for the first and second time, respectively, owing to the effect of the hepato-enteric circulation. The active components of GSPE can reach the colon of the lesion site, and hepatoenteric circulation can increase the residence time of the active components in the body, further increasing the anti-ulcer activity. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that GSPE has a potential protective effect against DSS-induced ulcerative colitis in mice.
Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Chestnut Honey and Cabbage Mixtures Alleviates Gastric Mucosal Damage

Abstract:Gastritis, one of the most common gastrointestinal disorders, damages the stomach lining as it causes a disproportion between the protective and ruinous factors of the gastric system. Cabbage (CB) is widely used to treat gastric lesions but requires the addition of natural sweeteners to counteract its distinct bitter taste. Therefore, this study sought to determine whether the combination of chestnut honey (CH)—which is known for its dark brown color and high kynurenic acid (KA) content—or KA-increased CH (KACH) with CB (CH + CB or KACH + CB) exerts synergistic effects for improving both taste and efficacy. Before confirming the gastroprotective effects in indomethacin (INDO)-induced rats, the anti-inflammatory activities of CH + CB and KACH + CB were assessed in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. As a result, treatment with either CH + CB or KACH + CB downregulated pro-inflammatory cytokine levels in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages by regulating the translocation of nuclear factor kappa B. Furthermore, both CH + CB and KACH + CB not only enhanced the levels of antioxidant enzymes but also triggered the activation of nuclear factor erythroid-related factor 2. Based on these effects, CH + CB or KACH + CB effectively protected the gastric mucosa in INDO-induced rats. Therefore, this study suggests that CH + CB and KACH + CB exert stronger gastroprotective effects when used together.

Abstract:In this study, gastritis inhibitory substances were ethanol-extracted from Saururus chinensis leaves as a part of ongoing research on natural bioactive substances. Comparing S. chinensis extracts with and without elicitor treatment showed that total phenolic compounds in the leaves increased with increasing elicitor treatment. The contents of avicularin, manassantin A, manassantin B, and saucerneol D in the leaf, known gastritis inhibitory compounds, increased as elicitor treatment increased. S. chinensis extracts were administered to mice in a single oral dose of 0.25–2 g/kg, resulting in no observable toxicity after 1 week. S. chinensis ethanol extracts were administered to mice at a dose of 500 mg/kg before induction of gastritis by water-immersion restraint method. Macroscopic gastric hemorrhage and microscopic gastric damage assessed with hemorrhage, edema, epithelial cell damage, inflammatory cell infiltration, and ulcer were reduced by S. chinensis ethanol extracts. The elicitor-treated group showed a greater inhibitory effect on macroscopic and microscopic gastric damage. Elicitor-treated S. chinensis extracts inhibited gastritis more than non-treated S. chinensis extracts did, most likely due to greater anti-inflammatory effects. These results indicate that elicitor-treated S. chinensis extracts could be effective to prevent gastritis and could be used as a medicinal material source.

Abstract:Gastric ulcers are commonly seen in the upper gastrointestinal tract and may be related to the Helicobacter pylori infection and the use of aspirin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Typically, proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used to treat gastric ulcers; however, adverse effects have emerged following long-term treatment. Natural medicines are used as alternative therapeutic agents in the treatment of gastric ulcers, with few side effects. Despite various reports on the anti-H. pylori and anti-gastric cancer activities of Anisomeles indica, its gastroprotective effect on ulcers remains undetermined. This study investigated the protective effect of A. indica on aspirin-induced gastric ulcers in murine models. Our results show that three fractions of ethanol-extracted A. indica inhibited aspirin-induced gastric injury. Among these, A. indica Fraction 1 was observed to enrich ovatodiolide, which effectively diminished gastric acidity and alleviated aspirin-induced inflammation in the stomach. Our results provide evidence that A. indica could be developed as an effective therapeutic agent for gastroprotective purposes.

Abstract:Gastric inflammation is an indication of gastric ulcers and possible other underlying gastric malignancies. Epidemiological studies have revealed that several Asian countries, including South Korea, suffer from a high incidence of gastric diseases derived from high levels of stress, alcoholic consumption, pyloric infection and usage of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Clinical treatments of gastric ulcers are generally limited to proton pump inhibitors that neutralize the stomach acid, and the application of antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori eradication, both of which are known to have a negative effect on the gut microbiota. The potential of probiotics for alleviating gastrointestinal diseases such as intestinal bowel syndrome and intestinal bowel disease receives increasing scientific interest. Probiotics may support the amelioration of disease-related symptoms through modulation of the gut microbiota without causing dysbiosis. In this study the potential of Lactobacillus plantarum APSulloc 331261 (GTB1TM), isolated from green tea, was investigated for alleviating gastric inflammation in an alcohol induced gastric ulcer murine model (positive control). Treatment with the test strain significantly influenced the expression of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory biomarkers, interleukin 6 (IL6) and interleukin 10 (IL10), of which the former was down- and the latter up-regulated when the alcohol induced mice were treated with the test strain. This positive effect was also indicated by less severe gastric morphological changes and the histological score of the gastric tissues. A significant increase in the abundance of Akkermansia within the GTB1TM treated group compared to the positive control group also correlated with a decrease in the ratio of acetate over propionate. The increased levels of propionate in the GTB1TM group appear to result from the impact of the test strain on the microbial population and the resulting metabolic activities. Moreover, there was a significant increase in beta-diversity in the group that received GTB1TM over that of the alcohol induced control group.

Chlorogenic Acid Attenuates Dextran Sodium Sulfate-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Mice through MAPK/ERK/JNK Pathway

Abstract:Objective . Observe the protective effect of chlorogenic acid on dextran sulfate-induced ulcerative colitis in mice and explore the regulation of MAPK/ERK/JNK signaling pathway. Methods . Seventy C57BL/6 mice (half males and half females) were randomly divided into 7 groups, 10 in each group: control group (CON group), UC model group (UC group), and sulfasalazine-positive control group (SASP group), chlorogenic acid low dose group (CGA-L group), chlorogenic acid medium dose group (CGA-M group), chlorogenic acid high dose group (CGA-H group), and ERK inhibitor + chlorogenic acid group (E+CGA group). The effects of chlorogenic acid on UC were evaluated by colon mucosa damage index (CMDI), HE staining, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and Western blot. The relationship between chlorogenic acid and MAPK/ERK/JNK signaling pathway was explored by adding ERK inhibitor. Results . The UC models were established successfully by drinking DSS water. Chlorogenic acid reduces DSS-induced colonic mucosal damage, inhibits DSS-induced inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in colon, and reduces ERK1/2, p -ERK, p38, p-p38, JNK, and p-JNK protein expression. ERK inhibitor U0126 reversed the protective effect of chlorogenic acid on colon tissue. Conclusion . Chlorogenic acid can alleviate DSS-induced ulcerative colitis in mice, which can significantly reduce tissue inflammation and apoptosis, and its mechanism is related to the MAPK/ERK/JNK signaling pathway.

Sanguinarine-Chelerythrine Fraction of Coptis chinensis Exerts Anti-inflammatory Activity in Carrageenan Paw Oedema Test in Rats and Reveals Reduced Gastrotoxicity

Abstract:Inflammatory diseases are a common therapeutic problem and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are not deprived of side effects, of which ulcerogenic activity is one of the most frequent. The aim of the study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the sanguinarine-chelerythrine (SC) fraction of Coptis chinensis and its influence on the integrity of gastric mucosa. The study was conducted on sixty male rats randomly divided into six experimental groups: two control groups (a negative control group CON and a positive control group CAR); three groups receiving an investigational fraction of C. chinensis (1, 5, 10 mg/kg i.g.) named SC1, SC5, and SC10, respectively; and a group receiving indomethacin (IND) (10 mg/kg i.g.) as a reference drug. In all animals, the carrageenan-induced paw oedema was measured; PGE2 release, TNFα production, and MMP-9 concentration in inflamed tissue were determined. Additionally, the macroscopic and microscopic damage of gastric mucosa was evaluated. Administration of SC dose-dependently inhibited the second phase of carrageenan rat paw oedema and PGE2 release, decreased the production of TNFα, and reduced the concentration of MMP-9, and the efficacy of the highest dose was comparable to the effect of IND. Contrary to IND, no gastrotoxic activity of SC was detected. The investigated sanguinarine-chelerythrine fraction of C. chinensis seems to be a promising candidate for further research on new anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs characterized with a safer gastric profile compared to existing NSAIDs.

Abstract:Context: HemoHIM is a medicinal herbal preparation of Angelica gigas Nakai (Apiaceae), Cnidium officinale Makino (Umbelliferae), and Paeonia japonica Miyabe (Paeoniaceae) developed for immune regulation. HemoHIM has been investigated for its ability to enhance tissue self-renewal and stimulate immune systems. To date, studies on the protective effects of HemoHIM against gastritis and gastric ulcers have not been conducted. Objective: The protective effects of HemoHIM using models of indomethacin and ethanol/hydrochloric acid (EtOH/HCl)-induced gastric mucosal injury were investigated. Materials and methods: Rats were divided into five groups (n = 10): control, indomethacin, or EtOH/HCl groups, HemoHIM 250, 500 mg kg-1, and cimetidine 100 mg kg-1, respectively. Indomethacin (80 mg kg-1) and 60% EtOH/150 mM HCl were administered orally 1 h after the administration of samples and rats were anesthetized 3 h after induction. The lesion area (%), inhibition ratio (%), and total acidity were investigated, and tissues were histopathologically analyzed using hematoxylin and-eosin (H&E) staining. Results: HemoHIM significantly reduced gastric injury in indomethacin-induced model (250 and 500 mg kg-1; 64.30% and 67.75%, p < 0.001) compared to indomethacin group. In the EtOH/HCl-induced model, HemoHIM reduced gastric lesion (250 and 500 mg kg-1; 61.05% and 73.37%, p < 0.001) and gastric acidity (250 and 500 mg kg-1; 37.80 and 45.20 meq L-1, p < 0.001) compared to EtOH/HCl group. H&E staining of the gastric mucosa showed decreased erosion and hemorrhage in HemoHIM group compared to EtOH/HCl group. Discussion and conclusions: Based on the results, HemoHIM is potential candidate for the treatment of gastritis and gastric ulcers.

Abstract:Gentiopicroside isolated from gentiana macrophylla Pall. belongs to iridoid glycosides. This study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of gentiopicroside against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in mice. Mice were proactively administrated with gentiopicroside by intragastric administration once a day for 3 consecutive days. On the 3rd day, gastric ulcer in mice was induced with 70% ethanol after the last intragastric administration. The stomach tissues were submitted for evaluation of the severity of gastric mucosal alterations. Gentiopicroside administrated orally ameliorated the severity of gastric mucosal alterations. Oral administration of gentiopicroside significantly increased heat shock protein-70 and glutathione levels and superoxide dismutase activity, normalized epidermal growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor levels, and decreased the levels of tumour necrosis factor-, interleukin-6 and malondialdehyde, and myeloperoxidase activity in gastric tissue. These findings demonstrated that gentiopicroside has protective effect against ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury in mice through the improvements of antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, as well as up-regulation of heat shock protein-70 level and normalization of epidermal growth factor and vascular endothelial growth factor levels. The results presented in this study provide some evidence for the development of a novel antigastric ulcer agent.

Abstract:Gonggan (Citrus reticulata Blanco var. gonggan) is one of the most popular citruses. In this study, the effect of Gonggan peel extract (GPE) on gastric injury was investigated. The components in GPE were analysed by HPLC and the gastric injury model in mice was established by ethanol/hydrochloric acid. After treatment by GPE, the pathological changes of gastric tissue were observed by optical microscope. The levels of oxidative stress and inflammation were measure by kit. And the mRNA expression of related gene was determined by qPCR assay. HPLC result showed GPE mainly contained the flavonoids narirutin, hesperidin, nobiletin, tangeretin and 5-demethylnobiletin. Morphological and pathological analysis of gastric tissue revealed that GPE could relieve gastric injury. Also, GPE increased the levels of SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT and decreased the level of MDA. Moreover, GPE decreased the levels of the inflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, and IL-6 to suppress inflammation. In addition, the q-PCR results showed that GPE upregulated the mRNA expression of SOD1, SOD2, γ-GCS, GSH-Px, CAT, and IκBα and downregulated the mRNA expression of NF-κB. In conclusion, GPE alleviated gastric injury caused by ethanol/hydrochloric acid by inhibiting oxidative stress and the inflammatory response. The mechanism by which GPE protects gastric tissues may involve the antioxidative pathway. Therefore, GPE has great potential to be developed as a product to prevent gastric injury.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic non-specific inflammatory bowel disease. In previous studies, we found extracts from the roots of Rosa odorata Sweet var. gigantea (Coll.et Hemsl.) Rehd. et Wils have a therapeutic effect on UC. Furthermore, sericic acid (SA) is a pentacyclic triterpenoid isolated from this plant that is being used for the first time. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether SA has anti-inflammatory and therapeutic effects on UC and its underlying mechanisms. METHOD In this study, we used a dextran sulfate-induced UC mouse model and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory cell model along with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) to quantify the abundance of inflammatory factors and oxidative stress factors in tissues and cells. HE staining was used to analyze the therapeutic effect of the drugs on the UC mouse model. The expression levels of oxidative stress-related proteins were detected using immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. The anti-inflammatory targets of SA were screened using protein chip arrays and verified by immunoblotting. RESULTS We found that SA had anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in animal and cellular inflammation models. SA inhibited the levels of NO, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, and MDA in tissues and cells and upregulated the expression level of SOD. Animal experiments showed that SA alleviated the shortening of colon length and colon pathological damage caused by DSS. The anti-inflammatory targets of SA were screened using protein chip arrays, and SA was found to inhibit proteins related to the NF-κB signaling pathway. Finally, immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry showed that SA downregulated the expression of p-IKKα/β and its downstream protein p-NF-κB, while promoting the expression of Nrf2 and its downstream protein HO-1. CONCLUSION The above results indicated that SA alleviated DSS-induced colitis by inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathway and activating Nrf2 pathway.
