Abstract:We evaluated the outcome of patients presenting with accelerated hypertension, as part of an audit of the Aberdeen Hypertension Clinic database. Of 3928 patients (2005 male, 1923 female) referred for assessment of hypertension, 128 (77 male, 51 female) presented with accelerated hypertension. The main outcome measures were systolic and diastolic pressure, length of time from referral to death or censor date, and cause of death. Accelerated hypertensives had a higher death rate than other hypertensives. Using life-table analysis, age and serum creatinine at referral were sufficient to predict survival. Almost 50% (15/31) of the deceased accelerated hypertensives died of acute myocardial infarction. Mean survival after referral was estimated as 18 years for accelerated hypertensives (mean referral age 52 years) and 21 years for other hypertensives (mean referral age 48 years). Blood pressure fell most during the first year of treatment, and declined steadily thereafter. Systolic blood pressure fell by a mean of 50 mmHg and diastolic pressure by 30 mmHg in the first year, and at about 2 (diastolic) and 1 (systolic) mmHg/year for the next 10 years. Thus although the prognosis for accelerated hypertensives is not quite as good as for other hypertensives, with suitable care they can survive for a considerable period.
Changing Nepali children's attitudes toward conservation through a participatory education program

Abstract:People's attitude toward wildlife is known to affect the success of conservation programs. Public education can increase support for conservation measures by providing the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions, improve pro-environmental behaviour and potentially enlist participation. To that end, we developed a participatory conservation education program in Nepal with a target audience of secondary school students. Our lessons emphasized ecological balance by highlighting the roles of individual species, including the rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta). This species presents a challenge for educating the public about maintaining balance in nature, because although an important seed disperser and species of religious significance, macaques are frequently involved in human-wildlife conflict and considered a pest species. We evaluated the impact of our program by surveying students from six socioeconomically similar schools, four that participated in our program and two that had not. Our questionnaire was comprised of knowledge questions about local wildlife and conservation issues, an open-ended listing exercise to determine species preferences, and statements that elicited students' opinions regarding empathy toward animals. Knowledge about and attitude toward wildlife, including M. mulatta, were greater in students that participated in the program. More importantly, these students were more likely to understand the role individual species play in a balanced ecosystem, how human behaviour can negatively impact wildlife, and how they could participate in conservation efforts. Gender was not a factor in any response. We discuss the merits of using a participatory learning platform in a standalone education program that has long-term purpose, funding, and buy-in.

Abstract:Dent's disease is an inherited disorder characterized by hypercalciuria, low molecular weight proteinuria, and Fanconi syndrome, which is caused by inactivating mutations in ClC-5, a chloride channel expressed in endosomes of the proximal renal tubule. The role of ClC-5 in the pathogenesis of the hypercalciuria and other myriad manifestations of this disease, however, is largely unknown. New insights from three new transgenic mouse models of Dent's disease, reported in the past year, are discussed.
A partnership to build scientific capacity of Rwanda's future conservationists: The Memoirs Program

Abstract:The future of primates depends on conservationists in primate range countries having the education and opportunities needed to facilitate conservation efforts. However, most primates are found in countries where conservation is underfunded. Rwanda is home to 14 primate species, with three being listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. Their remaining native habitats are scarce, highly fragmented, and surrounded by high human densities. Lacking education opportunities and the loss of qualified individuals following decades of political instability created a need for well-trained conservationists to tackle conservation challenges in Rwanda. The Memoirs Program, a science capacity-building partnership between Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund (DFGF), University of Rwanda (UR), the Rwanda Development Board, and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, aims to train the next generation of Rwandan conservationists. Annually, the Memoirs Program provides 10-12 top students from the UR Conservation Biology undergraduate program the opportunity to conduct senior research projects (Memoirs) at DFGF addressing conservation issues in and around Rwanda's protected areas. Students receive one-on-one supervision by DFGF scientists and affiliates to supplement UR mentorship, along with targeted teaching modules that reinforce and complement UR curricula. In continuation of the Memoirs Program, participants are offered professional development, employment opportunities, and support to publish their research in peer-reviewed journals. Since inception of the Program in 2003, 123 students have participated with 83% being employed or pursuing higher education degrees in conservation-related fields in Rwanda and the region. Pre- and post-training comparison of oral presentation skills, one of the teaching modules, involving 22 students demonstrated increased post-training performance. The Memoirs Program represents an effective partnership between the government, an international conservation non-governmental organization, and a public higher-learning institution in a developing country to support high-performing students to become tomorrow's conservation leaders. This model could be replicated within Rwanda and in other regions of the world.
A novel application of cultural consensus models to evaluate conservation education programs

Abstract:Conservation professionals recognize the need to evaluate education initiatives with a flexible approach that is culturally appropriate. Cultural-consensus theory (CCT) provides a framework for measuring the extent to which beliefs are communally held and has long been applied by social scientists. In a conservation-education context, we applied CCT and used free lists (i.e., a list of items on a topic stated in order of cultural importance) and domain analysis (analysis of how free lists go together within a cultural group) to evaluate a conservation education program in which we used a children's picture book to increase knowledge about and empathy for a critically endangered mammal, the Javan slow loris (Nycticebus javanicus). We extracted free lists of keywords generated by students (n = 580 in 18 schools) from essays they wrote before and after the education program. In 2 classroom sessions conducted approximately 18 weeks apart, we asked students to write an essay about their knowledge of the target species and then presented a book and several activities about slow loris ecology. Prior to the second session, we asked students to write a second essay. We generated free lists from both essays, quantified salience of terms used, and conducted minimal residuals factor analysis to determine presence of cultural domains surrounding slow lorises in each session. Students increased their use of words accurately associated with slow loris ecology and conservation from 43% in initial essays to 76% in final essays. Domain coherence increased from 22% to 47% across schools. Fifteen factors contributed to the domain slow loris. Between the first and second essays, factors that showed the greatest change were feeding ecology and slow loris as a forest protector, which increased 7-fold, and the humancentric factor, which decreased 5-fold. As demonstrated by knowledge retention and creation of unique stories and conservation opinions, children achieved all six levels of Bloom's taxonomy of learning domains. Free from the constraints of questionnaires and surveys, CCT methods provide a promising avenue to evaluate conservation education programs.
Best practices are never best: Evaluating primate conservation education programs (PCEPs) with a decolonial perspective

Abstract:Who do we aim to educate with primate conservation education programs (PCEPs)? In a commentary published in a recent AJP, Annette Lanjouw suggested that many efforts to "educate" habitat-country communities can be neocolonial in their approaches. Forest destruction and habitat loss are a result of global consumption and expansion. We therefore need to approach conservation education from many angles including local stakeholders, policy makers, government officials, and the humans living in industrialized nations who are major consumers of the items that shrink primate habitats. In this review, we investigate PCEPs to determine if the conservation education goals, education methods, and assessment processes are proceeding within a neocolonial context. We reviewed the last 20 years of primate conservation literature and looked for publications that were focused on education programs. We found that in 50 of 52 publications published between 2001 and 2021, the education programs take place in habitat-country local communities. We also reviewed primate field researcher and field site websites, and in most cases, education programs were also focused on educating local communities living near or in nonhuman primate habitats. Exceptions were student clubs, zoo programs, and a high school outreach program. Many PCEP providers presented a list of "lessons learned" and we compiled their wisdom in combination with our experience to provide a framework for moving forward. We conclude that as conservation primatologists, we must think beyond our field sites to create opportunities for educational outreach. We can reach global consumers by linking to zoos, television/motion picture, print media, social media, and working with schools on curricula. Primatologists can engage our undergraduates to establish clubs and create meaningful assignments that reach beyond the classroom. We encourage primatologists from the Global North to consider their positionality and the history of conservation exclusion in their attempts to conserve primates.
The Effect of Environmental Education Open Inquiry Learning Kits on the Environmental Literacy of Pre-service Biology Teachers

Abstract:Abstract Pre-service biology teachers’ environmental literacy is still generally low. It is necessary to improve their environmental literacy through the innovation of open inquiry learning kits. There are two primary aims of this study: (1) to develop appropriate open inquiry learning kits that can foster pre-service biology teachers’ environmental literacy in environmental education courses, (2) to examine the effectiveness of open inquiry learning kits in improving environmental literacy. This study used the procedure of the 4-D Thiagarajan model, i.e., four stages: (1) define, (2) design, (3) develop, and (4) disseminate. The products produced are open inquiry lesson plans, student worksheets, and environmental literacy test instruments. The product validation was carried out by experts in the field of environmental education and biology teaching and learning. The preliminary field testing and the main field testing were carried out in environmental education courses. The data were collected through observation, questionnaires, and written tests. The data were analyzed in a quantitative descriptive way through the calculation of the gain score. The results obtained from the research and development are open inquiry learning kits to improve the environmental literacy of students, which as a whole are suitable to use in environmental education lectures based on expert judgment. These open inquiry learning kits are not very effective in improving students’ environmental literacy based on the calculations of the gain score due to various shortcomings.
Primate focused conservation education in Paraguay: Doing something Para La Tierra

Abstract:Over 91% of the Paraguayan Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest has been cleared and the Gran Chaco is the fastest disappearing habitat on the continent. One of the compounding issues for conservation in Paraguay is the lack of knowledge of the importance of nature amongst the population. Fundación Para La Tierra (PLT) began the country's first Eco-Club program, "Voces de la Naturaleza" (Voices of Nature), in 2016. Three of the curriculums participatory lessons focus on primate conservation. These lessons formed the basis of PLT's Atlantic Forest education programme in 2018 when the team began visiting 22 schools around San Rafael (Tekoha Guasu). To date 26 schools (1,500+ children) across two political departments and four districts have participated in this programme which is now entering its 6th year. The biggest challenges have included the COVID-19 pandemic and the logistics and costs involved in reaching rural and remote schools. Though it is too soon to record observable behavioural change ongoing monitoring over the six year period indicates that children remember the information gained through the participatory methods for several years. We believe that the main reasons for the success of this programme are the collaborations that we have built with the teachers of the schools based on open communication and mutual respect. Though costs can be an issue when beginning, or running, a long-term project we recommend that potential educators not be put off trying and that a lot of good can be achieved with a small amount of funding.
Nine years of the Red Book Challenge conservation education in Southern Madagascar: What we have learned

Abstract:Red Book Challenge Conservation Education Madagascar is a small-scale, arts-based, conservation education initiative founded in 2012 by two Lemur catta researchers working in the Berenty Reserve and incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 2022. The target demographic is children and adults living in Southern Madagascar. The Red Book Challenge program initially consisted of providing supplementary conservation education through classroom visits at the elementary schools in Berenty village. The school children created small conservation booklets with red covers, giving the project its name. Today, the program has expanded to include the village of Besakoa Ambany and the city of Fort Dauphin, while remaining a small-scale program. To date, the Red Book Challenge has completed seven outreach projects aimed at generating goodwill in the local community, community development, and conservation education. This retrospective analysis functions as a formative evaluation of the feasibility of future projects. This paper will focus on four projects that fall under the category of conservation education: (1) Using films to promote conservation topics (2) field trips to observe lemurs (3) a Malagasy-run conservation club, and (4) a coloring book. These projects have been funded through small grants from the International Conservation Fund of Canada, and private donations. This paper includes the Red Book Challenge's history, results from the participant surveys, and the successes and failures in each stage of our work. Six shifts in thinking occurred: (1) use of Malagasy talent to create educational conservation films (2) more formal assessment before and after field trips (3) improvement of recruitment, training and supervision of staff to keep the conservation club self-sufficient (4) enlistment of Malagasy illustrators and adaptation of environmentally friendly printing practices for the coloring books (5) disseminate study outcomes to international community though publication (6) reframe the program from spare-time volunteer work to full-time research work.

Abstract:This research aims to evaluate students' sustainability awareness and engagement and to analyze students' perception of the ESD Project in Biology lessons at an Indonesian Senior High School. This study uses a Mixed Method research design combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. The participants were Year X students of a Senior High School in Jakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year. Survey, journal of reflection, semi-structured interview, observations, and documentation, were used to collect data. Finding: This research found that ESD Project in biology lessons develops Indonesian students' sustainability awareness and engagement. Students change their mindset from being unconscious to become more concerned with environmental issues. Several evidence of the consciousness in this research includes applying sustainability in the daily practice, doing real action by creating campaign videos. The awareness is also shown by their beliefs, values, and judgments in their reflective journal, including developing environmental literacy, changing into pro-environment, and positive attitude to protect the environment. Secondly, PjBL learning model in Biology lessons is meaningful for students by stimulating their cognitive and behavioral engagement. The most popular activity of the ESD Project is creating the design of clothes from waste. The implementation of ESD Projects has some challenges such as time consuming, and low self-regulation among Indonesian high school students. Implications for research, practice, and policy are discussed.
Addressing the vexing educational challenges of biodiversity loss: A photo-based intervention

Abstract:As an educational problem, the accelerating loss of biodiversity—one of the planet’s most pressing issues—represents particularly intriguing challenge. First, although biodiversity loss unfolds around on a daily basis, many individuals struggle to see, comprehend, and care about it. In addition, educators addressing biodiversity loss must address multiple outcomes simultaneously. For people to value biodiversity, educators must attend to emotional, motivational, and behavioral dimensions as well as learners’ understanding of key concepts. Focusing on the valuing component of expectancy-value theory, we evaluated the potential of photographs to affect participants’ emotional reactions, valuing of biodiversity, pro-environmental behaviors and content-relevant learning. Through a preliminary, exploratory experiment ( N = 340 adults) and a preregistered, confirmatory experiment ( N = 1870 secondary school students), we found broadly consistent evidence that strategically selected photographs induced negative emotions, increased participants’ valuing of biodiversity, and motivated pro-environmental behavior. Meanwhile, we saw no evidence of deleterious (or positive) effects on participants’ learning when the photographs accompanied an informational text. We conclude by discussing how costs are conceptualized within expectancy-value theory, as well as the potential of photographs as a useful pedagogical strategy for broad array of environmental educators.
Arts-based analysis of conservation education field trips for young people to observe wild lemurs in Southern Madagascar

Abstract:Opportunities for young people to directly experience nature can have positive impacts on the individual, the social group and on society as a whole, through future increased conservation action. We developed a program which engaged young people from Fort Dauphin in a field trip to see wild animals at Nahampoana Reserve. Our aim in offering field trips to young people living in the city was to create a positive emotional opportunity to engage directly with nature with the ultimate goal of protecting lemurs and their habitat. In our analysis, we predicted that participants who completed a survey after a presentation and field trip (assessment post field trip) would recall more correct and detailed facts than those participants who completed their surveys after the presentation only (assessment pre field trip). Our program used a variety of arts-based data collection methods including an initial essay writing component on conservation of lemurs and drawing analysis of observed plants and animals. Our results show, in part, that (A) initial written essays by participants showed misperceptions about lemurs, (B) participants who had attended the field trip prior to drawing their favourite aspect of the reserve, produced more species-specific plant depictions, and (C) participants who were involved in a presentation, field trip, and final group discussion came up with four principles for protecting lemurs and their environment. Upon analysis after the study, we gained the additional insight of being able to evaluate our survey methods.

Abstract:Sustainable management of coastal areas including their natural resources cannot be effectively implemented without the continued involvement of residents who are knowledgeable about the value of conservation. Carrying out long‐term conservation education programs and monitoring the impacts of such program in terms of changing people's awareness and behaviors are critical for conservation to be meaningful and sustainable. This research focused on a marine conservation education program (MCEP) offered at a junior high school in Japan that included collaboration with local fishermen. We aimed to reveal how such continuous and collaborative education program including field experience may change students' awareness and behaviors after several years. We conducted interviews with student participants, comparing their perceptions of when they were first‐graders and third‐graders, and with recent program graduates to understand their perception of the program and knowledge about the local environment. We also conducted surveys with parents and teachers at the junior high school to understand the impacts of the program. A series of studies revealed that the MCEP not only changed students' awareness and behaviors but also affected their parents and teachers.

The protective effect of the fortified bread with green tea against chronic renal failure induced by excessive dietary arginine in male albino rats.

Abstract:2 Abstract: Recently, considerable attention has been focused on dietary and medicinal phytochemicals that inhibit or retard diseases caused by oxidative processes. Green tea (GT) polyphenols have antioxidant properties. The present work was carried out to study the potential use of ground dried green tea leaves for fortification of pan bread and evaluate the sensory characteristics and the nutritive value of the fortified bread. The results showed that the best level of fortification which had the highest scores was recorded for 2% GT-fortified bread followed by 4% GT-fortified bread, while 6% GT-fortified bread had the lowest scores so, it was excluded from the biological study. The present work was also designed to investigate the protective effect of the fortified bread against renal failure induced by excessive dietary arginine (20g/kg diet).The possible beneficial role of 2% and 4% GT-fortified bread was evaluated by dietary supplementation in arginine diet to chronic renal failure (CRF) rats. The results revealed that, feeding CRF rats on arginine diet containing un-fortified bread resulted in significant increase in serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), Aspartate Amino Transferase (AST), Alanine Amino Transferase (ALT), uric acid, urea nitrogen and creatinine and significant reduction in serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Dietary supplementation of arginine diet with GT-fortified bread resulted in sufficient amelioration against the effects of excessive dietary arginine. GT-fortified bread showed improvement in all tested biochemical parameters which was more pronounced in 4% GT-fortified bread feeding group than 2% GT-fortified bread feeding group. Based on the evidence available it appeared that GT-fortified bread was beneficial to renal function and eliminated oxidative stress by virtue of its antioxidant properties. Utilization of GT could be recommended for pan bread fortification.
Situation of Environmental Education in Senior High School Programs in Indonesia: Perspectives from the Teachers of Palembang

Abstract:Environmental literacy helps to address key challenges in providing sustainable development for the developing third world countries. This can be qualified based on the active practice of promoting environmental awareness inside the classroom and innovative curriculum change among many educational systems. To provide a glimpse of the current situation of environmental education at the senior high school level, this pioneering qualitative research study based on grounded theory was conducted for Indonesia by interviewing 21 experienced teachers from Palembang. Two main themes were identified from the coded responses of the teachers on the semi-structured questions framed for this study. These themes were (i) teachers’ insights on the current teaching pedagogies in Indonesia and how these strategies are used to integrate environmentally important issues and (ii) the prospective of improving the environmental education in Indonesian high schools. Teachers interviewed in this study agree that (1) a more outcome-based strategy should be applied in teaching environmental knowledge in the classroom, (2) educational policies that raise awareness about environmental problems in Indonesia, especially the increasing bad air quality in the country, is seen as both a priority and an opportunity and (3) students attitudes, society’s apathy and ignorance, and government’s implementations are the challenges in developing environmental education subject for most Indonesian schools.
Program for Integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into Prospective Biology Teachers' Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)

Abstract:This study aims to promote prospective biology teachers' Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) about Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) or TPACK-ESD through a School Biology Course. The course is an integrated course as it discusses essential biology contents for the school and the strategies to present the content to the students. It is urgent to promote prospective teachers' TPACK-ESD since the existing biology teachers are not prepared to integrate ESD into biology lessons. The study applied a descriptive method based on a seven-step model of Reorient University Curricula to Address Sustainability (RUCAS). Participants in this study were third-year prospective teachers who were taking the course. The effectiveness of this program for prospective biology teachers is drawn from Content Representation (CoRes) and lesson plans prepared by prospective teachers. The results showed that prospective teachers' TPACK-ESD improved from early development to developed level. It means that prospective teachers' TPACK-ESD is still at a low level. Although the program can improve prospective biology teachers' competencies in developing lesson plans, the level is still low. One semester intensive program seems insufficient to promote prospective teachers' TPACK-ESD. Therefore, it is recommended that the program for promoting ESD integration into TPACK-ESD is conducted for an extended time. The novelty of this study lies in the findings and the coverage of the research area. This study is the first to explore a strategy to promote prospective teachers' TPACK-ESD. More studies are needed, especially on teachers' education curriculum and professional development programs, to accelerate the development of teachers' TPACK-ESD.
Integrating Perspectives from Education for Sustainable Development to Foster Plant Awareness among Trainee Science Teachers: A Mixed Methods Study

Abstract:This mixed-method study aimed to investigate the efficacy of an intervention unit that integrates perspectives from Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to foster plant awareness, within the context of botanical lessons for trainee science teachers. Third-year undergraduate students (n = 91) studying to become lower secondary school (grade 7–9) science teachers from a public university in East Java, Indonesia, participated in this study. Data were collected through a self-reported questionnaire, reflective journal entries, and focus group interviews. The findings revealed a statistically significant increase in the participants' attention and attitude towards plants, relative interest in plants, and self-efficacy in teaching plant-related topics. The triangulation of the analysis results from the reflective journals and focus group interviews demonstrated that through transformative learning, the participants' experiences, perceptions, and learning evolved throughout the intervention unit, leading to their more comprehensive understanding of plant-related issues and their connection to broader sustainability concerns. These findings imply that the integration of ESD perspectives into botanical education positively affects plant awareness. Future research could further investigate the long-term impact of integrating ESD perspectives on teacher training programs.

Abstract:Environmental problems are problems that arise from humans themselves, this can be one of the obstacles to factors that affect the success of teachers and learners in the teaching and learning process in schools. This problem must be overcome by making an effort to foster attitudes and living behaviors for school residents, both teachers, students, employees and parents / families who care about the environment with the management of environmentally sound school areas through the Adiwiyata program. Adiwiyata Program is a program of the Ministry of Environment, where this program is a form of appreciation given by the government to formal educational institutions that are considered to be instrumental in developing environmental education. With the Adiwiyata program, the Faculty of Agriculture – Universitas Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya as one of the Universities in Indonesia, especially East Java can make a real contribution in the success of the program through Community Service (PkM) activities. Community Service activities with the empowerment of elementary school teachers are carried out in the West Surabaya area, which is structurally an integral part of the Lakarsantri Subdistrict area, Surabaya - East Java. This program aims to grow and improve the ability of elementary school students to create a healthy environment and avoid negative environmental impacts through school activities with the empowerment of elementary teachers, through active involvement both initiativeally and participatoryly. This method of activity will be carried out using the PRRA (Participatory Rapid Rural Appraissal) and RRA (Rapid and Rural Appraissal) methods, between members of the elementary and companion teachers group (UWKS College) and students. This PkM is important to be proposed and carried out in order to support accelerating the target of achieving the UWKS Higher Education Strategic Plan, where the Umbrella of UWKS Superior Research and Service in accordance with the Rector's Decree in 2012, that the umbrella of research and service of the flagship LPPM-UWKS institution is "Sainteks and Environmental Insights". Where the flagship umbrella of this institution is the basic reference for lecturers to develop self-reliance and creativity, in compiling devotional activities at UWKS. The proposed and will be done service is partly an application of the author's superior research results, where the author's research results have been selected as a national finalist of PT's flagship research products in 2013, as well as a concrete step in realizing the vision and mission of the University, as proclaimed in the UWKS Strategic Plan, is also one of the solutions in solving community problems in facing this pandemic
Integrating Environmental Education to Form Environmental Care Characters in Schools

Abstract:Purpose: This study aimed to integrate environmental education into school curricula to enhance environmental literacy, awareness, and sustainable behaviors among students and teachers. Research Design and Methodology: The study employed a multi-phase methodology, including needs assessment, curriculum development, teacher training, student engagement activities, mentoring, and monitoring. The project was implemented through comprehensive workshops for teachers, hands-on experiential learning activities for students, and continuous mentoring and assessment. Findings and Discussion: Results from pre- and post-intervention assessments indicated significant improvements in environmental knowledge and awareness among participants. Students displayed a deeper understanding of environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, and exhibited positive shifts in attitudes and behaviors towards environmental conservation. Teachers reported increased confidence and competence in integrating environmental topics into their teaching practices, facilitated by professional development sessions covering contemporary environmental issues and pedagogical strategies. Implications: The study found that experiential learning activities, such as nature walks and school gardens, were particularly effective in fostering student engagement and retention of environmental knowledge. Additionally, the involvement of local environmental organizations and community members played a crucial role in reinforcing positive behavioral changes through social learning and community involvement. However, challenges such as limited resources and variability in teacher preparedness were identified, suggesting the need for ongoing support and resource allocation.

Abstract:In the context of the 21st century, the landscape of science education in Indonesia has undergone significant transformations, driven by technological advancements and evolving pedagogical approaches. This study aims to explore these developments, focusing on the current trends and challenges faced by educators and learners in the field of science education. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates both quantitative and qualitative data, including surveys of science educators and students, interviews with educational experts, and analysis of educational policy documents. This comprehensive methodology allows for a nuanced understanding of the state of science education in Indonesia, encompassing perspectives from various stakeholders. The findings reveal a paradigm shift towards more interactive and technology-integrated teaching methods, highlighting an increased emphasis on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students. However, challenges such as unequal access to technological resources, varying levels of teacher preparedness for new teaching modalities, and the need for curriculum updates to reflect contemporary scientific advancements are prominent. The study concludes that while there is a positive trend towards more dynamic and engaging science education in Indonesia, addressing these challenges is crucial for ensuring equitable and effective science education for all students in the 21st century. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and curriculum developers in enhancing the quality and relevance of science education in Indonesia.
