Scanning Electron Microscopy Analysis of the Adaptation of Single-Unit Screw-Retained Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacture Abutments After Mechanical Cycling

Abstract:Purpose: To measure the microgap between dental implants and custom abutments fabricated using different computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) methods before and after mechanical cycling. Materials and methods: CAD software (Dental System, 3Shape) was used to design a custom abutment for a single-unit, screw-retained crown compatible with a 4.1-mm external hexagon dental implant. The resulting stereolithography file was sent for manufacturing using four CAD/CAM methods (n = 40): milling and sintering of zirconium dioxide (ZO group), cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) sintered via selective laser melting (SLM group), fully sintered machined Co-Cr alloy (MM group), and machined and sintered agglutinated Co-Cr alloy powder (AM group). Prefabricated titanium abutments (TI group) were used as controls. Each abutment was placed on a dental implant measuring 4.1× 11 mm (SA411, SIN) inserted into an aluminum block. Measurements were taken using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (×4,000) on four regions of the implant-abutment interface (IAI) and at a relative distance of 90 degrees from each other. The specimens were mechanically aged (1 million cycles, 2 Hz, 100 N, 37°C) and the IAI width was measured again using the same approach. Data were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance, followed by the Tukey test. Results: After mechanical cycling, the best adaptation results were obtained from the TI (2.29 ± 1.13 μm), AM (3.58 ± 1.80 μm), and MM (1.89 ± 0.98 μm) groups. A significantly worse adaptation outcome was observed for the SLM (18.40 ± 20.78 μm) and ZO (10.42 ± 0.80 μm) groups. Mechanical cycling had a marked effect only on the AM specimens, which significantly increased the microgap at the IAI. Conclusion: Custom abutments fabricated using fully sintered machined Co-Cr alloy and machined and sintered agglutinated Co-Cr alloy powder demonstrated the best adaptation results at the IAI, similar to those obtained with commercial prefabricated titanium abutments after mechanical cycling. The adaptation of custom abutments made by means of SLM or milling and sintering of zirconium dioxide were worse both before and after mechanical cycling.
Evaluation of different tightening protocols on angled screw channel abutments after cyclic loading: An in vitro study

Abstract:Statement of problem: Screw loosening remains one of the most common complications associated with implant-supported restorations. The available literature is scarce regarding the most efficient method of tightening definitive abutment screws for angled screw channel (ASC) abutments. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to identify the optimal screw tightening protocol for ASC abutments by evaluating the influence of different protocols on reverse tightening values (RTVs). Material and methods: Fifty implants were randomly assigned to 5 groups (n=10). Implants were mounted and received a cover screw and impression coping to simulate the clinical scenario. Each group was allocated to one of the following protocols: tightened once (1×), tightened twice (2×), tightened twice at a 10-minute interval (2× [10 min]), tightened, countertightened, then tightened again (TCT) and tightened, countertightened, tightened, countertightened, then tightened (TCTCT). A monolithic zirconia central incisor implant crown was fabricated by using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) and cemented onto the ASC abutment. The crown-abutment assemblies were secured onto the implants with the Gold-Tite abutment screw by using their assigned tightening protocols. Each screw was tightened to the recommended value of 20 Ncm with a calibrated digital torque measuring device. Specimens were subjected to 250 000 cycles of cyclic loading simulating 3 months of function with a universal testing machine. RTV was measured for each specimen. Results: The mean RTV for all the groups ranged from 13.5 Ncm to 15.9 Ncm. The highest mean RTV was found with the (1×) protocol. However, the difference was not statistically significant among any of the groups (P>.05). Conclusions: Multiple retightening and time intervals between tightening events of these ASC abutment screws did not have a significant influence on RTV under simulated function of 3 months. The one time (1×) tightening protocol can be recommended as a suitable method for ASC abutments, thus avoiding unnecessary retightening.
Effect of implant abutment screw materials and tightening protocols on reverse tightening values: An in vitro study

Abstract:STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Implant abutment screw loosening is the most common prosthetic complication of implant-supported single crowns. However, few studies have objectively evaluated the effectiveness of different tightening protocols on reverse tightening values (RTVs). Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to determine the optimal tightening protocol for implant abutment screws with different screw materials. Material and methods: Sixty implants from 2 implant systems (Keystone and Nobel Biocare) with different definitive screw materials were selected. One group used diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated screws (DLC Group), and the other used titanium nitride (TiN) screws (TiN Group). Each group consisted of 30 implants. The implants in each group were distributed randomly into 3 subgroups (n=10). The implants from both manufacturers were mounted in resin blocks by following a clinical component connection protocol: a cover screw was placed, then an impression coping, and finally an original manufacturer prefabricated abutment. The abutment screws were tightened to the manufacturer's recommended tightening value using 3 different protocols: tighten the screw once (1T); tighten the abutment screw to the recommended tightening value, wait 10 minutes, and then retighten (2T); and tighten the abutment screw to the recommended tightening value, countertighten, tighten, countertighten, and then tighten (3TC). RTVs were measured after 3 hours. The Shapiro-Wilk test was performed to test for normal distribution of the data. The Kruskal-Wallis test was applied to each system's group that was not normally distributed (P<.05). Where differences existed, a post hoc analysis using the Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Flinger (DSCF) pairwise comparisons test was conducted. Results: No significant differences were found among the 3 different tightening groups in the TiN group (P>.05). However, significant differences were found among the 3 different tightening protocols in the DLC group (P<.05). Conclusions: Abutment screw systems from different manufacturers behave differently with respect to how they are tightened. For the TiN screw group, statistically similar RTVs were found for the 3 tightening protocols. The most efficient tightening protocol for the DLC-coated screw was the 3TC-DLC.

Abstract:Purpose To determine the number of torque/reverse torque cycles attachment screws can withstand before fracture, and to record the magnitude of reverse torque values for each of the 10 cycles of screw tightening and loosening. Materials and Methods The testing assemblies consisted of 30 temporary cylinder/multiunit abutment/internal connection implants (10 each from Dentsply Sirona Astra, Biohorizons, and Zimmer Biomet Dental). The assemblies were inserted into resin blocks, and temporary cylinders were connected to the multiunit abutments with new attachment screws and torqued to the recommended preload (15 Ncm Dentsply Sirona Astra; 15 Ncm Biohorizons; 10 Ncm Zimmer Biomet Dental) using a digital torque gauge instrument (Model 3, MARK‐10 Corporation, New York, USA) at room temperature without lubrication. After 24 h, the attachment screws were reverse torqued with the same instrument and the values were recorded. The torque/reverse torque cycles were repeated every 24 h for 10 days. Data were analyzed using mixed model analysis. A second test included torquing the used screws (30) until fracture or stripping occurred. The reverse torque values were recorded and compared with new screws that were torqued until fracture or stripping. A sample of used and new attachment screws from each assembly were viewed under both laser microscope (LEXT OLS4000, 3D Measuring Laser Microscope, Olympus) and scanning electron microscope (JEOL‐JSM6510, Tokyo, Japan). Data were analyzed using t‐test. Results Following 10 cycles of torquing and reverse torquing, the reverse torque values measured on day 10 were lesser compared with the reverse torque value measured on day 1 for 29/30 attachment screws (96.6%). According to the t‐test used for the second test, the p‐values among all three groups were ≥0.9 which were not statistically significant. Conclusion The results of this study indicated that after 10 cycles of torquing and reverse torquing attachment screws, the reverse torque values decreased. There were no statistical differences between the magnitude of torque necessary to fracture new and used attachment screws.

Assessment of reliability of CAD-CAM tooth-colored implant custom abutments

Abstract:Statement of problem: Information is lacking about the fatigue resistance of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) tooth-colored implant custom abutment materials. Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the reliability of different types of CAD-CAM tooth-colored implant custom abutments. Material and methods: Zirconia (Lava Plus), lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD), and resin-based composite (Lava Ultimate) abutments were fabricated using CAD-CAM technology and bonded to machined titanium-6 aluminum-4 vanadium (Ti-6Al-4V) alloy inserts for conical connection implants (NobelReplace Conical Connection RP 4.3×10 mm; Nobel Biocare). Three groups (n=19) were assessed: group ZR, CAD-CAM zirconia/Ti-6Al-4V bonded abutments; group RC, CAD-CAM resin-based composite/Ti-6Al-4V bonded abutments; and group LD, CAD-CAM lithium disilicate/Ti-6Al-4V bonded abutments. Fifty-seven implant abutments were secured to implants and embedded in autopolymerizing acrylic resin according to ISO standard 14801. Static failure load (n=5) and fatigue failure load (n=14) were tested. Weibull cumulative damage analysis was used to calculate step-stress reliability at 150-N and 200-N loads with 2-sided 90% confidence limits. Representative fractured specimens were examined using stereomicroscopy and scanning electron microscopy to observe fracture patterns. Results: Weibull plots revealed β values of 2.59 for group ZR, 0.30 for group RC, and 0.58 for group LD, indicating a wear-out or cumulative fatigue pattern for group ZR and load as the failure accelerating factor for groups RC and LD. Fractographic observation disclosed that failures initiated in the interproximal area where the lingual tensile stresses meet the compressive facial stresses for the early failure specimens. Plastic deformation of titanium inserts with fracture was observed for zirconia abutments in fatigue resistance testing. Conclusions: Significantly higher reliability was found in group ZR, and no significant differences in reliability were determined between groups RC and LD. Differences were found in the failure characteristics of group ZR between static and fatigue loading.
In Vitro Study of Preload Loss in Different Implant Abutment Connection Designs

Materials

Abstract:The stability and integrity of the abutment-implant connection, by means of a screw, is fallible from the moment the prosthetic elements are joined and is dependent on the applied preload, wear of the components and function. One of the main causes of screw loosening is the loss of preload. The loosening of the screw-abutment can cause complications such as screw fracture, marginal gap, peri-implantitis, bacterial microleakage, loosening of the crown and discomfort of the patient. It is also reported that loosening of the screw/abutment may lead to a failure of osseointegration. It is necessary to evaluate and quantify, with in vitro studies, the torque loss before and after loading in the different connections. Aim: evaluate the influence of implant- abutment connection design in torque maintenance after single tightening, multiple tightening and multiple tightening followed by mechanical cycling. Materials and Methods: 180 Klockner implants divided in 4 groups: 15 SK2 external connection, 25 Ncm tightening torque; 15 KL external connection, 30 Ncm tightening torque; 15 Vega internal connection, 25 Ncm tightening torque; 15 Essential internal connection, 30 Ncm tightening torque. In each group removal torque values (RTV) were evaluated with a digital torque meter, in 3 distinct phases: after one single tightening, 10 multiple tightenings and 10 multiple tightenings and cyclic loading (500 N × 1000 cycles). Results: After one single tightening, and for all connections, RTV were lower than those of insertion, but only for Essential and Vega internal connections this result was statistically significant. After multiple tightening, RTV were significantly lower in all connections. After repeated tightening followed by cyclic loading, mean RTV were significantly lower, when compared to insertion torque. The multiple tightening technique resulted in higher RTV than the single tightening technique, except for Vega implant. The multiple tightening followed by cyclic load, compared to the other phases, was the one that generated the lowest RTV, for all connections. Conclusions: The connection design, in our study, did not seem to influence the maintenance of preload. Loading influenced the loss of preload, in the sense that significantly decreased the removal torque values. The multiple re-tightening technique resulted in higher removal torque values than the single tightening technique. Clinically, our results recommend to retighten retaining screws, a few minutes after insertion.

Materials

Abstract:Statement of problem: Implant-supported rehabilitations are an increasingly frequent practice to replace lost teeth. Before clinical application, all implant components should demonstrate suitable durability in laboratory studies, through fatigue tests. Objective: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the integrity and wear of implant components using SEM, and to assess the axial displacement of the implant–abutment assembly by Micro-CT, in different implant connections, after three distinct mechanical requests. Materials and methods: Four KLOCKNER implants (external connection SK2 and KL; and internal connection VEGA and ESSENTIAL) were submitted to three different mechanical requests: single tightening, multiple tightening, and multiple tightening and cyclic loading (500 N × 100 cycles). A total of 16 samples were evaluated by SEM, by the X-ray Bragg–Brentano method to obtain residual stresses, and scratch tests were realized for each surface and Micro-CT (4 control samples; 4 single tightening; 4 multiple tightening; 4 multiple tightening and cyclic loading). All dental implants were fabricated with commercially pure titanium (grade 3 titanium). Surface topography and axial displacement of abutment into the implant, from each group, were evaluated by SEM and Micro-CT. Results: In the manufacturing state, implants and abutments revealed minor structural changes and minimal damage from the machining process. The application of the tightening torque and loading was decisive in the appearance and increase in contact marks on the faces of the hexagon of the abutment and the implant. Vega has the maximum compressive residual stress and, as a consequence, higher scratch force. The abutment–implant distances in SK2 and KL samples did not show statistically significant differences, for any of the mechanical demands analyzed. In contrast, statistically significant differences were observed in abutment–implant distance in the internal connection implants Vega and Essential. Conclusions: The application of mechanical compression loads caused deformation and contact marks in all models tested. Only internal connection implants revealed an axial displacement of the abutment into the implant, but at a general level, a clear intrusion of the abutment into the implant could only be confirmed in the Essential model, which obtained its maximal axial displacement with cyclic loading.

Evaluation of Vertical Misfit and Torque Loss of Different Abutments for Tri-Channel Type Internal Connection Dental Implants After Mechanical Cycling

Abstract:The aim of this study was to evaluate the mechanical behavior of UCLA and Mini-conical abutments for implants with Tri-channel connections regarding torque loss and vertical misfit. Twenty 3-element metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures (FPD) supported by 2 implants were manufactured and divided into 2 groups (n = 10): UCLA (group 1) and Mini-conical Abutments (group 2). The evaluation of torque loss was carried out before and after mechanical cycling, while the vertical fit was evaluated throughout the different stages of manufacturing the prostheses, as well pre- and postcycling (300,000 cycles, 30 N). Statistical analyses of torque loss and vertical misfit were performed using the linear mixed effects model. Both groups showed torque loss after mechanical cycling ( P < .05); however, there was no significant percentage differences between them ( P = .795). Before cycling, the groups showed a significant difference in terms of vertical misfit values ( P < .05); however, this difference was no long observed after cycling ( P = .894). Both groups showed torque loss after the cycling test, with no significant difference ( P > .05). There was no significant difference in vertical misfit after mechanical cycling; however, in group 1 (UCLA) there was accommodation of the implant-UCLA abutment interface, while group 2 (Mini-conical abutment) did not show changes in the interface with the implant after the test. Both groups behaved similarly regarding the torque loss of the prosthesis retention screws pre- and postmechanical cycling, with greater loss after the test.

Effect of shape and design of the internal connection of tissue-level and bone-level implants on detorque values and removal forces: An in vitro study

Abstract:Statement of problem Optimal implant stability and preventing complications such as screw loosening are paramount concerns for implant-supported prostheses. However, studies examining the influence of various internal connection designs on detorque values and removal forces, critical aspects of implant success, are lacking. Purpose The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the impact of the shape and design of the internal connection in tissue-level and bone-level implants on the detorque value and the force required for abutment removal from the implant. Material and methods Forty dental implants were securely mounted in 10×6×20-mm acrylic resin blocks positioned perpendicular to the surface. The implants were divided into 4 groups (n=10): bone-level SM Torx, tissue-level PSI Torx, bone-level UF Hex, and tissue-level UF Hex implants. After exposure to a dynamic loading test at 31.2 N, 2 Hz and 10 6 cycles, measurements were made of both detorque values and removal forces. Statistical analyses, including 1-way ANOVA with a post hoc Tukey test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, were conducted to assess the results (α=.05). Results The differences in detorque values among the 4 groups were statistically similar ( P =.087). In terms of removal force values, tissue-level PSI implants exhibited the highest values, while bone-level UF implants had the lowest values, with significant differences in the removal forces among the 4 groups ( P <.001). Pairwise comparisons revealed significant differences among the groups ( P <.001), except for the comparison between tissue-level PSI and bone-level SM implants ( P =.108). Conclusions While detorque values remain consistent across implant types, the shape and design of the internal connection of implants has a significant impact on the removal force required for abutment detachment from the implant.

Abstract:Statement of problem The biomechanical stability of the implant-prosthesis assembly and its maintenance under function is a determining factor in the success of implant prosthesis rehabilitation, but studies of different angular tapers are lacking. Purpose The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the axial displacement and torque loss of prosthetic abutments with Morse-type connections of different angular tapers after thermomechanical cycling by using microcomputed tomography (μCT) and a digital torque wrench. Material and methods Eighteen Ø3.5×11.5-mm implants were embedded in polyvinyl chloride cylinders, and the 3 different types of abutments (n=6) with angular tapers of 11.5 degrees - Alvim Cone Morse (ACM-11.5), 16.0 degrees - Helix Gran Morse (HGM-16), and 24.0 degrees - Nobel Replace Conical Connection (NRC-24) were installed with the torque recommended by the manufacturers. To calculate the axial displacements of the abutments about the implants, zirconia maxillary canine crowns were fabricated using a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) system and cemented onto the abutments. Before and after thermomechanical cycling, the assemblies were scanned using microtomography (micro-CT) to assess axial displacement, and the torque losses were calculated after the abutments were finally unscrewed. A load of 100 N, frequency of 2 Hz, and 10 6 cycles with temperature variation of 5 °C to 55 °C were used for the thermomechanical cycling. Analysis of variance and the Tukey post hoc test (α=.05) were used for analysis. Results A significant difference was observed between the abutments for axial displacement, measured after thermomechanical cycling ( P =.002). The ACM-11.5 abutment showed the highest mean value (134.1 ±58.7 μm), different from HGM-16 (63.3 ±26.1 μm) ( P =.013) and NRC-24 (42.7 ±8.7 μm) ( P =.002); the 2 latter groups were similar to each other ( P =.618). For the torque losses, no significant difference was found among the abutments ( P =.928), but there were significant differences for the thermomechanical cycling (before and after) ( P <.001) in that the loss of torque was greater after thermocycling. Conclusions The smaller the taper angle of the Morse-type prosthetic abutment, the greater its axial displacement, and the thermomechanical cycling significantly reduced pretorque, regardless of taper.

Abstract:Using agarose gel electrophoresis MB-creatine kinase (MB-CK) activity was examined in the serum of 120 patients with acute alcohol intoxication admitted to a detoxification ward. Total CK activity was increased in 67 percent of patients and MB-CK activity was increased in 8.3 percent. Alcoholic patients also were studied by Sephadex chromatography and, in seven cases, MB-CK was greater than three standard deviations from the normal. Thus, this study demonstrates that acute alcohol intoxication is associated with increased MB-CK activity. These findings raise the possibility that excessive alcohol ingestion may lead to acute myocardial injury.

Abstract:We investigate the spin dependence of thermal properties and energy level densities of a deformed heavy nucleus in different microscopic treatments, which include a correlated approach based on a quadrupole interaction and the static path approximation, and a simple uncorrelated approach based on a deformed single particle Hamiltonian. Results in [sup 164]Er are seen to exhibit similar characteristics in both approaches for not too high excitation energies, except for an almost constant enhancement factor in the level density. Level density parameters are also discussed.
Comparative effect of implant-abutment connections, abutment angulations, and screw lengths on preloaded abutment screw using three-dimensional finite element analysis: An in vitro study

Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of implant-abutment connections, abutment angulations, and screw lengths on screw loosening (SL) of preloaded abutment using three dimensional (3D) finite element analysis. Materials and methods: 3D models of implants (conical connection with hex/trilobed connections), abutments (straight/angulated), abutment screws (short/long), and crown and bone were designed using software Parametric Technology Corporation Creo and assembled to form 8 simulations. After discretization, the contact stresses developed for 150 N vertical and 100 N oblique load applications were analyzed, using ABAQUS. By assessing damage initiation and shortest fatigue load on screw threads, the SL for 2.5, 5, and 10 lakh cyclic loads were estimated, using fe-safe program. The obtained values were compared for influence of connection design, abutment angulation, and screw length. Results: In straight abutment models, conical connection showed more damage (14.3%-72.3%) when compared to trilobe (10.1%-65.73%) at 2.5, 5, and 10 lakh cycles for both vertical and oblique loads, whereas in angulated abutments, trilobe (16.1%-76.9%) demonstrated more damage compared to conical (13.5%-70%). Irrespective of the connection type and abutment angulation, short screws showed more percentage of damage compared to long screws. Conclusions: The present study suggests selecting appropriate implant-abutment connection based on the abutment angulation, as well as preferring long screws with more number of threads for effective preload retention by the screws.

Abstract:PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the misfit and screw preload at the implant abutment connection of implant supported fixed dental prosthesis with cantilever (ICFDP) manufactured using different digital manufacturing techniques and to compare the screw preload before and after cyclic loading.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Mandibular jaw model with four intra-foraminal implants was scanned using digital scanner. Stereolithography file was used to design a framework with nonengaging (NE) abutments and 10 mm cantilever distal to one terminal implant. Five frameworks were constructed using combined digital-conventional techniques (CAD-cast), and five frameworks were constructed using three-dimensional printing (3DP). Additional CAD-cast framework was constructed in a way that ensures passive fit (PF) to use as control. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) measured the implant abutment connection misfit. Sixty screws were used on the corresponding frameworks. Screws were torqued and pre-cyclic loading reverse torque value (RTV) was recorded. Frameworks were subjected to 200,000 loading cycles with a loading point 9 mm from the center of terminal implants adjacent to the cantilever and post-cyclic loading RTVs were recorded.RESULTS: Microscopic readings showed significant differences between frameworks. PF demonstrated the lowest measurements of 16.04 (2.6) µm while CAD-cast demonstrated the highest measurements of 29.2 (3.1) µm. In all groups, RTVs were significantly lower than the applied torque. Post-cyclic loading RTV was significantly lower than pre-cyclic loading RTV in PF and 3DP frameworks. Differences in RTVs between the three manufacturing techniques were insignificant.CONCLUSION: Although CAD-cast and three-dimensionally printed (3DP) both produce frameworks with clinically acceptable misfit, 3DP might not be the technique of choice for maintaining screw's preload stability under an aggressive loading situation.

Abstract:Studies on dental implant abutments' geometric design and material selection offer significant innovations and results. These studies aim to improve the abutments' functionality and aesthetic performance, minimize microcavities' formation, and ensure implant-supported prostheses' longevity. For example, CAD-CAM fabricated custom abutments have been found to produce a better marginal fit and fewer microgaps than standard abutments. In an in vitro study, transepithelial abutments offered lower microgap values than titanium-based abutments and provided a better fit at the implant-abutment interface. It is known that studies to improve mechanical and biological performance with Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) material have been addressed. New materials such as PEEK and zirconia have offered significant advantages in biocompatibility and aesthetics. Along with those studies, different abutment designs are also important. Abutment geometry is optimized to improve stress distribution and minimize peri-implant bone loss. In implant and abutment connections with different angles, mechanical life performances may vary depending on static and dynamic load. These studies emphasize the importance of material research on different types of connections to improve dental implants' durability, homogeneous load distribution, and reliability. The abutment parts used in implant treatment are insufficient to distribute the load homogeneously against chewing pressure due to their materials and geometry. Non-uniform load distribution damages the abutment and the prosthetic crown, accelerating the wear process. This study aimed to create different abutment designs to improve dental implants' biomechanical performance and longevity. This study aimed to increase the mechanical durability of the implant-abutment connection by reducing stress concentrations in response to masticatory compression on the abutment in different directions and forces and to guarantee the long-term success of the implant system by providing a more homogeneous stress distribution. It aimed to apply different forces in the axial direction to these models in a simulation environment and to calculate and compare the deformation and stress load distribution. As a method, three-dimensional models of the parts used in implant treatments and forming the implant system were designed. Different abutment designs were created with these models. Taking the current material values used in implant treatments as a reference, finite element analysis (FEA) was performed by applying different axial loads to each implant system model in the ANSYS software (version 24.1). Comparative analysis graphs were prepared and interpreted for the stress values obtained after the applied load. This study evaluated the mechanical performance of different abutment models (A, B, C, D, and E) under a 100 N load using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant differences between the groups (p < 0.001). The greatest difference was observed between models E and A (q' = 6.215), with a significant difference also found between models C and A (q' = 3.219, p < 0.005). Regarding stress values, the highest stress on the abutment was observed in Model B (97.4 MPa), while the lowest stress was observed in Model E (9.6 MPa). The crown exhibited the highest stress in Model B (22.7 MPa) and the lowest in Model E (17.3 MPa). The implant stress was highest in Model C (14.8 MPa) and lowest in Model B (11.3 MPa). The stress values for the cortical bone and cancellous bone were quite similar across the models, showing no significant differences. These findings indicate that the abutment design and material selection significantly impact mechanical performance. Among the implant systems created with five different abutment models, in which the existing abutment geometry was also compared, homogeneous and axial distribution of the load on the abutment was achieved, especially with viscoelastic and surface area increased abutment designs. Clinically, the inadequacy and limited mounting surface or geometry of the abutments used in today's implant treatment applications have led to different design searches. It was concluded that the designs in this study, which are considered alternatives to existing abutment models, contribute positively to the mechanical life of the abutment material, considering the von Mises stresses and directions. This study brings a new perspective to today's practices and offers an alternative to treatment practices.
