Abstract:Purpose The higher education sector plays an important role in a nation's implementation of pro-environmental regulations. Environmental initiatives should be the focal point of a university's mission, and they are expected to be present in everyday academic life on campus. This study aims to propose the extended model of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to understand the psychological aspects that may enhance the likelihood of university students engaging in environmentally friendly behavior. Design/methodology/approach This study used a quantitative approach involving a national sample of university student participants (N = 1,608) from various regions across Indonesia. The battery included extended TPB dimension measures (attitudes, norms, behavior control, environmental concern and habits on pro-environmental behavior intention) that were administered in the Indonesian language. Findings The structural equation modeling analysis revealed that the proposed extended TPB model met fit model indices and significantly predicted participants' pro-environmental intentions. Research limitations/implications This theoretical model has the potential to assist relevant stakeholders and higher education institutions in the development of evidence-based pro-environmental policies and interventions to promote sustainable student behavior. Originality/value This study presents a novel approach to understanding the effect of the extended TPB model on participants' ecological intentions in the Indonesian university setting. This study was among the first to propose a sustainable behavior intention model based on the TPB theory within the Indonesian context. The current findings challenged the established TPB framework and offered fresh insights into the behavioral-psychological interplay within university environmental contexts.

Abstract:Abstract Education for sustainable development (ESD) is essential to study in order to understand environmental changes from the perspective of student character building. This concept is the main foundation that refers to individual personality as a medium to build excellent capacity from an early age. At adolescent age, children experience a period with high emotional growth that encourages changes in attitudes and behavior patterns towards the surrounding environment. This exploratory study aimed at describing the relationship between environmental knowledge and studentsí attitudes and behaviors, along with challenging factors as the moderating variable, involving 320 participants from two junior high schools in two cities in Central Java, Indonesia. The data were analyzed using partial least square Smartpls v3.0. This study found that junior high school students had low environmental and social knowledge, but there was a good attitude and behavior tendency concerning the environment. The studentsí knowledge significantly influenced environmentally-friendly attitudes and behaviors, especially the social environment that the obstacles also became a significant moderating variable. Thus, schools and related parties should develop programs to increase the studentsí study orientation towards the environment and to have a collective awareness of the environment, specifically the ability to analyze and synthesize the surroundings.

Abstract:This research aims to evaluate students' sustainability awareness and engagement and to analyze students' perception of the ESD Project in Biology lessons at an Indonesian Senior High School. This study uses a Mixed Method research design combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. The participants were Year X students of a Senior High School in Jakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year. Survey, journal of reflection, semi-structured interview, observations, and documentation, were used to collect data. Finding: This research found that ESD Project in biology lessons develops Indonesian students' sustainability awareness and engagement. Students change their mindset from being unconscious to become more concerned with environmental issues. Several evidence of the consciousness in this research includes applying sustainability in the daily practice, doing real action by creating campaign videos. The awareness is also shown by their beliefs, values, and judgments in their reflective journal, including developing environmental literacy, changing into pro-environment, and positive attitude to protect the environment. Secondly, PjBL learning model in Biology lessons is meaningful for students by stimulating their cognitive and behavioral engagement. The most popular activity of the ESD Project is creating the design of clothes from waste. The implementation of ESD Projects has some challenges such as time consuming, and low self-regulation among Indonesian high school students. Implications for research, practice, and policy are discussed.
Sequential explanatory analysis of environmental awareness towards responsible environmental behavior (REB) of high school students in Depok City, West Java, Indonesia

Abstract:Objective of this study is to obtain information about the interrelationship between environmental awareness and the responsible environmental behavior of high school students. Research conducted toward students of the Masjid Terminal High School (SMA) at Depok City in December 2019 to July 2020 with samples of 111 respondents by proportional random sampling technique. A mix-method was employed in this study, which is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods as sequential explanatory. Collection of quantitative data was conducted using a questionnaire with rating scale for X and Y variables. The validity test used Pearson's product moment and the reliability test used alpha Cronbach. The analysis of quantitative data with a prerequisite test in the form of a normality test employed the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and a homogeneity test using a Levine statistic. Testing the data hypothesis was using the correlation test with Pearson product moment using SPSS 26. Qualitative research data was obtained from the interviews, and the data was analyzed by reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The results showed that there was a positive correlation between environmental awareness and responsible environmental behavior with the regression equation Ŷ = 99.939 + 0.161x with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.195 and r2 of 3.80%. The contribution of r2 means that 3.80% of responsible environmental behavior is influenced by environmental awareness, while 96.20% is influenced by other factors. Based on above results, can be conclude that there are positive correlation between environmental awareness and responsible environmental behavior which influenced by the factors of family background, habits, information, as well as social environment.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh informasi tentang hubungan antara kesadaran lingkungan dengan perilaku tanggung jawab lingkungan pada siswa SMA. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap siswa sekolah (SMA/High School) Masjid Terminal, Kota Depok, Jawa Barat, pada bulan Desember 2019 hingga Juli 2020 dengan jumlah sampel 111 responden dengan teknik proporsional random sampling. Mix-method digunakan dalam penelitian ini, yang merupakan kombinasi antara metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif sebagai sequential explanatory. Pengumpulan data kuantitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner dengan skala sikap (rating scale) untuk variabel X dan Y. Uji validitas menggunakan Pearson’s product moment dan uji reliabilitas menggunakan alpha Cronbach. Analisis data kuantitatif dengan uji prasyarat berupa uji normalitas menggunakan uji Kolmogorov-Smirnov dan uji homogenitas menggunakan statistik Levine. Pengujian hipotesis data menggunakan uji korelasi dengan Pearson’s product moment menggunakan SPSS 26. Data penelitian kualitatif diperoleh dari wawancara, dan data dianalisis dengan mereduksi data, menyajikan data dan menarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara kesadaran lingkungan dengan perilaku tanggung jawab lingkungan dengan persamaan regresi Ŷ = 99,939 + 0,161x dengan koefisien korelasi r = 0,195 dan r2 sebesar 3,80%. Kontribusi r2 berarti 3,80% perilaku tanggung jawab lingkungan dipengaruhi oleh kesadaran lingkungan, sedangkan 96,20% dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor lain. Berdasarkan hasil di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif antara kesadaran lingkungan dengan perilaku tanggung jawab lingkungan yang dipengaruhi oleh faktor latar belakang keluarga, kebiasaan, informasi, serta lingkungan sosial.
The green-based school and the creation of student’s environmental attitude and behavior

Abstract:This study examines the relationship between the green-based school with students’ environmental attitudes and behavior. Sustainable development has become the solution and commitment to save the earth from destruction due to human behavior. Environmental education plays an important role in creating an environmentally literate society. Adiwiyata School, an official form of environmental education, is one of the efforts to increase sustainable development through education as a way to improve student's environmental attitude and behavior. The research design used multiple case studies utilizing the observation method and questionnaire distribution to Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata schools. A New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) scale and a General Ecological Behavior (GEB) scale are used to measure student's environmental attitudes and behavior change. As a result, the green-based school creates influences in student's environmental attitudes (9.3%) and environmental behavior (12.3%).
Differences in behavior, engagement and environmental knowledge on waste management for science and social students through the campus program

Abstract:It is proven that the educational environment contributes to increasing knowledge about waste. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the environmental education process in higher institutions with various policies and programs in good waste management. It focuses on the behavior, engagement, and environmental knowledge of students in the science and social department at Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia. Furthermore, it examines the differences in behavior, engagement, and environmental knowledge of waste management through campus programs. This study collected data from 279 social science and science students with characteristics of 123 males and 156 females with an average age of 18.4 years from 18-20 years spread across Syiah Kuala University, Indonesia. The study data were collected through a questionnaire involving 279 students related to environmental behavior, engagement, and knowledge in waste management. Data analysis used descriptive and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) one-way using SPSS version 23 application for windows. The results showed that the students have good environmental attitudes, engagement, and knowledge in waste management with various existing policies and programs. Generally, the average score majoring in social and science from the behavioral variables is [(3,71), (3,62)], engagement is [(3,39), (3,52)] and environmental knowledge is [(3,43), (3,67)] for waste management. Their environmental behavior majoring in social science was higher. Similarly, in environmental engagement and knowledge, students majoring in science were higher than in social science. These results provide an understanding that programs and policies related to environmental conservation have a significant impact on environmental behavior, engagement, and knowledge for sustainable development free of waste. Therefore, institutions at all levels should provide education on environmental conservation with various policies and programs to support a free waste environment.

Abstract:Global warming and increasing environmental pollution are caused by human behaviour These facts have driven consumer to change their behaviour to become more environment-friendly. This study aims to analyze how psychological factor, namely green appearance consciousness (X1), environmental consciousness (X2), and green-self identity (X3) influence pro-environmental behaviour (Y). This research belongs to causal associations research. The data were obtained from 130 people, who implemented zero-waste lifestyle. In this study we used Partial Least Square analysis method to measure relationship between variables. The result shows that green appearance consciousness (X1) and environmental consciousness (X2) have significant influences to pro-environmental, while green self-identity (X3) does not have significant influences to pro-environmental behaviour (Y).

Abstract:The relocation of the capital city of Indonesia needs the utmost support for its sustainability. This paper is an explorative study on the pro-environmental behavior (PEB) of students from the buffer cities closest to the new capital city. Data were collected using a questionnaire based on the two major environmental values and appreciation instruments. The questionnaire contained 21 items that measured PEB in relation to three aspects: preservation, utilization, and appreciation. Data were collected from 280 junior high school students who participated in an online questionnaire. The data analysis used descriptive statistics and correlations. Utilization was identified as having the highest score among the three aspects, indicating that most students in the buffer cities hold exploitative utilitarian preferences for nature. Interventional education programs are needed to reduce human over-exploitation of the environment and prevent further environmental degradation. The highest correlation was found between appreciation and preservation, which was significant and positive. Gender was not a variable that affected PEB. However, the location of the buffer cities was the factor that showed the most significant differences in the scores. Our results could provide relevant insights for the design of environmental education to support the sustainability of Indonesia’s new capital city.

Abstract:Natural environment should be cared and sustained. It is a place for human to live and develop their social and economical world. Moreover, it is also a site for many biodiversity to live together in a balanced ecosystem. Recently, global awareness is directed to the alarming destruction of environment and its’ potential threats for human and other living things, as the impacts of human social-economical activities. Many efforts are executed to avoid or minimize future environmental damage. One of those endeavours is environmental education for young generation. Growing children’s environmental knowledge, protection skills and management as well as caring and responsible character can be an endurant solution. This study aims to examine some learning aspects in environmental education through green school development in MI Walisongo, Desa Sawohan, Sidoarjo. The study is based on a qualitative inquiry conducted by using direct participant observation as its’ data collection method. The study finds that environmental education requires a wide range of learning experiences, relating to emotion, direct practice and cognition development. In Green School MI Walisongo Desa Sawohan, those experiences are manifested into several learning processes: participative learning, modeling, character building, green site building, learning through game and peer team working.

Abstract:In the school environment, all teachers have a good level of teacher efficacy. However, in reality, many teachers still find low levels of efficacy. This has an impact on students' knowledge, understanding, and achievement in the school environment. This is urgent to be researched because there are similarities between theory, hope, and reality. So the research aims to analyze the factors that influence teachers' self-effectiveness in implementing Environmental Education in schools. The method in this research is quantitative research with regression. The subjects consisted of 300 teachers from private secondary schools and state secondary schools spread across Indonesia. Data collection techniques using instruments. Instruments developed from indicators and measured based on a Likert scale. Data analysis techniques using Statistics version 25.0 with descriptive (mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentage) and inferential statistics using the Multiple Linear Regression method. The results and research findings show that the level of teacher self-efficacy in implementing Environmental Education in schools is moderate. It was found that the factors that influence teacher self-efficacy in the implementation of education are teacher awareness of the environment and teacher perceptions of the principal's learning leadership.
Individualism and Collectivism in Pro-Environmental Behavior of an Environmentally Educated Community (Case Study of Bendungan Village, Bogor, Indonesia)

Abstract:The major element impacting environmental sustainability is the public's lack of awareness about the importance of maintaining and caring for the environment. Minimising environmental damage can be achieved by individuals by engaging in more positive behaviours, such as not littering, becoming rescue volunteers, and raising environ-mental awareness. This will help alleviate psychological problems, like low levels of satisfaction with environ-mental conditions. Using natural resources efficiently and implementing environmentally friendly development are two of the primary goals of environmental management, yet this is incorrect. Pro-environmental behavior refers to a deliberate activity taken to reduce the adverse effects caused by hu-man activities in one's surroundings. Pro-environmental behavior refers to the degree to which behavior affects the accessibility of natural resources or energy from the environment. Engaging in pro-environmental conduct is a beneficial action that helps to reduce environmental harm and enhance environmental conditions and behavior. The Bendungan village where this research is conducted has been educated and informed by the government by its Ecovillage program. The program has successfully educated the village people to be environmentally friendly, especially regarding waste management. This research is conducted using mix methods and questionnaires using the Slovin formula to determine the number of samples. The research showed that individualist values from surpassing collective values and exerting dominance over the majority of village people, internalization of behavior failed to establishing norms and policies that prioritize a more collectivist orientation. Furthermore, it is imperative to have a collective dedication in order to effectively execute these measures. Only a minority of individuals in research location properly dispose waste. Properly disposing waste enhances an individual's self-assurance when donning it, but most individuals in this research location chose not to done it. Different approach besides, education needed to mitigate littering and to promote pro environmental behavior for a community that already have adequate and basic knowledge for environmentally friendly behavior. Internalization approach, although a long process is needed to solve individualism behavior that are endangering the environment. Knowledge and information, based on this research does not correcting people behavior. This research also showed that knowledge does not determining individualism behavior and collectivism behavior has not over-come the power of individualism in this village.

Abstract:This study aims to analyze the effect of existential intelligence, personality, and self-determined motivation on pro-environmental behavior of students at Adiwiyata schools, also analyzes the variables of a theory of planned behavior (TPB) as the intervening variables. The novelty describes a new idea of predicting pro-environmental behavior, especially among high school students, by integrated analysis of existential intelligence, self-determination motivation and personality, and mediation of planned behavior, which is rarely used. 886 respondents consisted of Adiwiyata high schools students in Semarang City who participated in March-April 2021. The data was analyzed using AMOS-SEM, and the results show that existential intelligence and self-determined motivation positively affect pro-environmental behavior. Meanwhile, the personality of extroverted intuitive thinking judging (ENTJ), extroverted intuitive feeling perceiving (ENFP), extroverted sensing feeling perceiving (ESFP), introverted sensing thinking judging (ISTJ), an introverted intuitive feeling perceiving (INFP) type also has a positive effect on the pro-environmental behavior. Further, attitude, subjective norm (SN), and perceived behavioral control have a significant positive effect in mediating the existential intelligence, self-determined motivation, and personality of ENFP, ESFP, ISTJ, and INFP on the pro-environmental behavior. Meanwhile, the SN does not have a significant effect in mediating the ENTJ personality. In addition, the intention has a significant positive effect in mediating the existential intelligence, self-determined motivation, and personality of ENTJ, ENFP, ESFP, ISTJ, and INFP type on the pro-environmental behavior.

Abstract:The low awareness and behaviour of environmental care and the increasing cases of environmental damage caused by human behaviour are the background of the research. Environmental problems caused by humans continue to occur and increase every year, ranging from the destruction of ecosystems to the emergence of waste that damages the environment. Environmental care behaviour is an important part that must be owned by every human being on earth, because this is related to the survival of every creature, both plants, animals, and other humans. This study aims to determine the effect of students' participation in environmental education programmes on pro environmental behaviour. This research is a type of quantitative research with survey method. Data collection techniques were obtained by means of observation and questionnaires. The research subjects were 5th grade elementary school students totalling 45 people. Data analysis was conducted using paired sample t test to measure the influence between variables and linear regression analysis to measure the amount of influence given. The results showed that there was a positive influence of student participation on pro environmental behaviour with sig. 0.004 rtable = 0.294 so that it can be interpreted that the higher the participation of students in the environment, the better the environmental care behaviour, where R2 = 0.175 shows the influence of student participation with pro environmental behavior by 17%, while 83% is influenced by other factors. From these results, it shows that students' participation in environmental education programs plays an important role in supporting environmental care behaviour that leads to attitudes to protect the environment. The implication of the research is as a database and evaluation of education, especially in the environmental care behaviour of elementary school students.

Abstract:Abstract Environmental behavior in the community has a vital role in structuring the city environment — identification of factors that influence the development of pro-environmental behavior. Various models of the formation of environmental behavior theories show various internal and external factors that determine the development of pro-environmental behavior in a person. Previous studies had explained how socio-cultural, and place attachment are the external factors that contribute to shaping pro-environmental behavior. However, further studies are necessary to determine the most appropriate solution can be applied in emerging cities like Jakarta, based on the grading systems of socio-cultural, and place attachment determinants. This study evaluated the proposed solutions based on those determinants, and calculates the rank based on the implementation criteria, namely: effectiveness, cost, duration, and sustainability using AHP as a tool in the decision-making process in solving the problems with high complexity. It is determined that the prioritized alternative to be implemented in the urban/rural area in Jakarta is Place Attachment, as it is the most sustainable and effective alternative in developing the pro-environmental behavior within the community.

Abstract:In order to make the environment safe and comfortable, humans need to have ethics. With good environmental ethics will make life more meaningful. Ethical towards the environment, among others, by protecting the environment from damage or loss. This study aims to analyze student behavior towards the use of electrical energy in providing sustainable campus carrying capacity. This field research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach to find out the daily, intersubjective world (world of life) of IAIN Salatiga students. This study reveals the meaning of concepts or phenomena of experience based on the awareness that occurs in IAIN Salatiga students in utilizing electrical energy on campus in lighting systems, air systems, and supporting equipment. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data that has been obtained is analyzed by reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions or verification. Checking the validity of the data using triangulation techniques and sources. The results show that the behavior of IAIN Salatiga students is in the form of concern for the use of electrical energy, which includes lighting systems, air systems, and supporting equipment.

Abstract:This study was aimed at investigating the effect of peer attachment, parental involvement, and perceived school climate on self-awareness in junior high school students in East Martapura, South Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. The quantitative research method through product moment correlation and multiple linear regression analysis was applied in this study. The sample of the research was the total population of a junior school in East Martapura with significant number of dropout cases. The subject of this study consisted of male and female students in the age of 11 to 17 years old with a family background of traders and farmers as well as a Malay-bajar Islamic culture. The results of the study showed that there was a significant correlation between peer attachment and parental involvement. In contrast, there was no correlation between both factors and perceived school climate. Furthermore, it was also found that there was a significant positive effect of peer attachment, parental involvement, and perceived school climate on students' self-awareness. The results of this study indicated that to foster students’ self-awareness, schools need to establish communication with parents, create a comfortable and effective school climate for teaching and learning processes, as well as facilitate the students to develop peer attachment through extracurricular activities. In addition, schools may also take actions to implement field-based learning and provide career counseling for students to broaden their insights of alternative self-development besides trading and farming.

Abstract:By instructing students on pro-environmental behavior, early environmental education and training can start to establish pro-environmental behavior among student. To proof the value of environmental education in educating students about current environmental issues and their effects on public health and safety, as well as motivating them to adopt pro-environmental behaviors, a literature review is required. The review was based on nine studies from reputable international publications that were published in English between 2019 and 2023 and were selected based on title, population, objectives, and outcomes criteria. The articles were found in the ScienceDirect database. The review focuses mostly on establishing the effectiveness of environmental education in influencing pro-environmental behavior. The review also examines the ways in which students' perceptions of environmental education and their pro-environmental conduct are influenced by the interaction of internal and external influences. The study's findings demonstrate the significance of environmental education in influencing students' pro-environmental behavior. By providing students with reliable, accurate, and valid information, environmental education raises their awareness of environmental issues and promotes the development of pro-environmental behavior. Additional research on best practice design to rise pro-environmental behavior through environmental education can be developed from this study. More research is required on the topic of integrating more both internal and external factors of pro-environmental behavior in the environmental education curriculum.
Environmental Education Based on Local Values: Its Integration in the Indonesian Elementary School Curriculum

Abstract:Environmental Awareness is a necessity for all age groups, including elementary school students. Proper understanding of ecological issues requires earlier initiation and introduction of students to local-based content. This paper aims to describe the need to integrate the environmental problems based on local wisdom within the elementary school curriculum. The authors seek to guide education planners in Indonesia on how to incorporate environmental issues based on local values or local content in specific subject content for proper awareness creation among the elementary school students. The target is to address gaps in the teaching of environmental education in primary schools across the archipelago. Elementary school students are the future citizens, whose understanding of how the environment works from a localized perspective will help bring about better future environmental management. The study used a survey method, applying two clusters of random sampling techniques. It was conducted in selected elementary schools around Bandung, the capital city of the West Java Province, Indonesia. To collect data, structured questionnaires were used to examine. Later, data was analyzed using simple statistical methods, drawing inferences and descriptive analytics. Conclusively, this study established that specific environmental education themes based on local values and local content need to be included in the elementary school curriculum for more clarity and understanding of topics. The suggested thematic topics should comprise of issues related to overcoming environmental pollution; preventing global warming; wise use of the environment flora and fauna, and appropriate values needed for ecological conservation and sustainability.

Abstract:In light of increasing concerns about global environmental problems, environmental moral education is assumed to have a significant influence on the pro-environmental behaviour of students. Within the past decade, several higher education institutes have acknowledged the importance of integrating sustainability into the educational curriculum to have a focused and explicit impact on society. The current study investigated the relationship between environmental moral education and pro-environmental behaviour while drawing upon insights from the conservation of resource theory. The relationship among the aforementioned variables was studied for the mediating role of psychological empowerment and the moderating effect of Islamic religiosity. Data were collected from 429 university students with a cross-sectional approach. The data were analysed using “structural equation modelling” and “PROCESS” analytical techniques. The results of the study followed the predicted conceptual model, that is, environmental moral education was positively related to pro-environmental behaviour. Furthermore, psychological empowerment partially mediated the aforementioned relationship, while Islamic religiosity moderated the relationships between environmental moral education and pro-environmental behaviour as well as between environmental moral education and psychological empowerment. These findings reinforce the importance of environmental moral education and Islamic religiosity in understanding the Muslim student’s ecological behaviours.
