Abstract:Background: As walking abilities are widely affected among the aging population, investigating the effectiveness of wearable device-based walking programs is essential. The intentions of this meta-analysis were to investigate their effects on gait speed among older adults, as well as to include subgroup analysis to evaluate potential effects on individuals with aging-related conditions such as Parkinson's disease (PD) and stroke. Methods: Systematic retrieval of Pubmed, The Cochrane Library, Embase and Web of Science databases were searched up to February 2024. Outcomes such as gait speed, balance, cadence, and stride length were extracted and analyzed. Study quality was evaluated using the Rob 2 tool and heterogeneity was tested using I2 statistics through STATA 16. Results: Nine studies with 284 participants were analyzed. The intervention group showed a significant improvement in gait speed (weighted mean difference (WMD) 0.12; 95% CI 0.03 to 0.21). There is a subgroup analysis suggesting differential effects: significant improvements in PD and stroke subgroups, but not in the normal aging group. Balance (WMD: 1.93; 95% CI: 0.20 to 3.66) and stride length (WMD: 8.58; 95% CI: 3.04 to 14.12) were also shown to improve, but the heterogeneity across the studies was moderate (I2 = 63.91%). No significant changes were observed in the Timed Up and Go test, Gait Variability, and Step Width. Conclusions: Wearable device-based walking programs improve gait speed in older adults, with top notch advantages in the ones tormented by PD or stroke. These findings advocate that such interventions can be a valuable part of individualized treatment strategies in geriatric care, aiming to enhance mobility and usual satisfactory of existence.

Abstract:Abstract Background Walking aids are issued to older adults to prevent falls, however, paradoxically their use has been identified as a risk factor for falling. To prevent falls, walking aids must be used in a stable manner, but it remains unknown to what extent associated clinical guidance is adhered to at home, and whether following guidance facilitates a stable walking pattern. It was the aim of this study to investigate adherence to guidance on walking frame use, and to quantify user stability whilst using walking frames. Additionally, we explored the views of users and healthcare professionals on walking aid use, and regarding the instrumented walking frames (‘Smart Walkers’) utilized in this study. Methods This observational study used Smart Walkers and pressure-sensing insoles to investigate usage patterns of 17 older people in their home environment; corresponding video captured contextual information. Additionally, stability when following, or not, clinical guidance was quantified for a subset of users during walking in an Activities of Daily Living Flat and in a gait laboratory. Two focus groups (users, healthcare professionals) shared their experiences with walking aids and provided feedback on the Smart Walkers. Results Incorrect use was observed for 16% of single support periods and for 29% of dual support periods, and was associated with environmental constraints and a specific frame design feature. Incorrect use was associated with reduced stability. Participants and healthcare professionals perceived the Smart Walker technology positively. Conclusions Clinical guidance cannot easily be adhered to and self-selected strategies reduce stability, hence are placing the user at risk. Current guidance needs to be improved to address environmental constraints whilst facilitating stable walking. The research is highly relevant considering the rising number of walking aid users, their increased falls-risk, and the costs of falls.

Spatiotemporal, kinematic and kinetic gait characteristics in Parkinson's disease compared to healthy individuals: A systematic review with meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: Gait disorders are frequently reported in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD). Despite extensive research, the specific gait features affected by PD remain inadequately defined. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate kinematic, kinetic, and spatiotemporal parameters of gait in individuals with PD compared to healthy controls. Methods: We conducted a systematic review in PubMed, CINAHL, and EMBASE up to March 2024 to retrieve studies assessing adults with PD, which examined gait compared to healthy controls. Two reviewers independently performed the screening process, extrapolation data and quality assessment. Studies were meta-analyzed using original units of measurement (mean difference, MD) to enhance the clinical understanding of the gait characteristics. The level of evidence was provided. Findings: Thirty-four studies were included (n = 1533 participants with PD and n = 1093 healthy controls). Moderate-to-strong evidence was found for reduced speed (MD:-0.21 m/s, 95 %CI: -0.27; -0.15), stride length (MD:-0.17 m, 95 %CI: -0.25; -0.09), swing time (MD:-1.16 % of gait cycle, 95 %CI: -2.30; -0.02), and sagittal range of motion of the lower limb joints in individuals with PD (hip: MD:-5.39°, 95 %CI: -10.42; -0.37; knee: MD:-11.05°, 95 %CI: -21.88; -0.22; ankle: MD:-4.03°, 95 %CI: -6.37; -1.69). An increase in double support time (MD:0.07 s, 95 %CI: 0.05; 0.10) and a decrease in cadence (MD: -4.93 steps/min, 95 %CI: -7.89; -1.98) were observed. Kinetic data showed diverse outcomes, making a meta-analysis not possible. Interpretation: PD is associated with changes in gait kinematics and spatiotemporal parameters, while kinetic aspects remain under investigated. Future research should focus on kinetics, joint angular velocity, and push-off parameters. PROSPERO registration: CRD42022347368.
Characteristics associated with gait speed improvements from walking interventions for older adults: A responder analysis

Abstract:Background Some older adults benefit to a great degree from walking interventions and others experience little improvement. Understanding the personal characteristics associated with greater treatment response to different interventions could assist clinicians in providing patients with matched interventions to optimize both outcomes and resource use. Research question What personal characteristics are associated with improved gait speed for older adults participating in walking interventions? Methods This was a secondary analysis of 236 older adults from a trial comparing "Standard" (lower-extremity strength and walking endurance) to "Plus" (additional task-specific training for walking) interventions on gait speed in older adults (≥65 years). Predictors included sociodemographic characteristics, health status, physical performance, and self-reported function. We fitted linear regression models to 12-week change in gait speed. Results Predictors of improved gait speed in Standard group included: younger age (β=-0.015), lower BMI (β=-0.005), slower gait speed (β=-0.015), longer Figure 8 Walk time (β=0.010), and higher Late Life Function and Disability Instrument scores (β=0.003). The parsimonious set of multivariable predictors were never married (β=0.081), not a caregiver (β=0.208), no cancer history (β=-0.052), slower chair rise times (β=0.010), slower gait speed (β=-0.021), and better overall function and disability (β=0.006).Predictors of improved gait speed in Plus group included: lower BMI (β=-0.004), farther Six-Minute Walk distance (β=0.014), and greater modified Gait Efficacy Scale (β=0.002). The parsimonious set of multivariable predictors were increased age (β=0.026), no cardiovascular disease (β=0.137), greater total physical activity counts per day (β=0.003), slower baseline gait speed (β=-0.072), and longer Six-Minute Walk distance (β=0.054). Significance Those with the combination of suboptimal physical performance and strong self-report of function may benefit from standard strength and conditioning. Individuals may best respond to task-specific training when health status and physical performance are suboptimal and not overtly compromised. Matching interventions with personal characteristics may enhance efficacy of treatments to improve walking in older adults.

Abstract:Introduction Ankle‐foot orthoses (AFOs) are commonly prescribed for people with Charcot‐Marie‐Tooth disease (CMT) to improve gait efficiency and reduce the occurrence of tripping and falls. The aim of this study was to systematically review evidence on the effects of AFOs on gait kinematics and kinetics and postural stability/balance in people with CMT. Methods Studies were identified from electronic databases and screened for inclusion online using Rayyan. Data from all eligible studies were extracted into a standardised Excel spreadsheet. Methodological quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklists. Where available, continuous outcomes were pooled to estimate standardised mean differences in random‐effects meta‐analyses. Results A total of 15 studies were included with variable methodological quality. Sample sizes ranged from 1 to 32 with significant variability in participant characteristics, AFO designs and testing procedures. Data from eight studies were available for meta‐analysis. Although AFOs impacted walking velocity, stride length, step length, cadence, ankle dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, knee and hip flexion and ankle plantarflexion and dorsiflexion moments, the effect sizes were small‐to‐moderate and non‐significant. There were insufficient data available for pooled analyses of outcomes related to postural stability/balance. Conclusion Although AFOs positively affect a number of gait and balance parameters, the small participant numbers, variability in participant characteristics, AFO designs and testing procedures adopted by the available studies resulted in the absence of statistically significant effects when data were pooled. The results from this review also highlight the importance of device customisation based on the individual needs of people with CMT and their degree of gait impairment.

Abstract:Symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS) are highly variable and include impaired senses, instability, and fatigue, making persons with MS (PwMS) ill suited for the traditional six month office visit paradigm. Instead, PwMS are well suited for remote monitoring to capture their true impairment. The objective of this work is to investigate the value of free living data compared to prescribed walking tasks. Wearable sensor data were utilized from six weeks of data from 25 PwMS. Participants completed a daily one minute walk, 30 second standing task, and patient reported outcomes of balance confidence (ABC), fatigue (MFIS) and walking impairment (MSWS). We compared gait and sway, as well as correlated them to patient reported outcomes (PRO). Lastly, we used a regression to determine the variance accounted for (VAF) in each PRO by different data sources. Temporal gait features were moderately correlated (r=0.6 to 0.81) between passive and prescribed walking, however, no postural sway features were correlated with each other. Passive data was found to have greater clinical relevance in our sample of PwMS compared to prescribe tasks for both gait and sway analyses. Passive sway features were found to be moderately related to ABC, MFIS, and MSWS (r=0.42 to 0.74, VAF=0.42 to 0.7), while prescribe sway was only correlated to MFIS (r = 0.41, VAF = 0.44). Both passive and prescribed measures of gait were related to ABC and MSWS; stronger relationships were found in the passive data (r = 0.42 to 0.78, VAF = 0.64 to 0.78). Additionally, we found the performance increased for passive monitoring with a shorter monitoring duration, highlighting the need to properly match the monitoring and analysis duration to the population. Overall, our findings highlight the importance of including passive free living analysis in future studies.

Abstract:Our study aims were: 1) to determine whether assisted weight bearing or additional weight bearing is more beneficial to the improvement of function and increased stability in gait and dynamic balance in patients with Parkinsonism, compared with matched controls (treadmill alone). Twenty-three men and women participants (M +/- SD = 74.5 +/- 9.7 yrs; Males = 19, Females = 4) with Parkinsonism were in the study. Participants staged at 1-7 (M +/- SD = 3.96 +/- 1.07) using the Hoehn & Yahr scale. All participants were tested before, after the intervention (within one week), and four weeks later on: 1) dynamic posturography, 2) Berg Balance scale, 3) United Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), 4) biomechanical assessment of strength and range of motion, and 5) Gaitrite force sensitive gait mat. Group 1 (treadmill control group), received treadmill training with no loading or unloading. Group 2 (unweighted group), walked on the treadmill assisted by the Biodex Unweighing System at a 25% body weight reduction. Group 3 (weighted group), ambulated wearing a weighted scuba-diving belt, which increased their normal body weight by 5%. All subjects walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes per day for 3 days per week for 6 weeks. Improvements in dynamic posturography, falls during balance testing, Berg Balance, UPDRS (Motor Exam), and gait for all groups lead us to believe that neuromuscular regulation can be facilitated in all Parkinson's individuals no matter what treadmill intervention is employed.

Abstract:Background: Passive-dynamic ankle-foot orthoses (PD-AFOs) are often prescribed to address plantar flexor weakness during gait, which is commonly observed after stroke. However, limited evidence is available to inform the prescription guidelines of PD-AFO bending stiffness. This study assessed the extent to which PD-AFOs customized to match an individual's level of plantar flexor weakness influence walking function, as compared to No AFO and their standard of care (SOC) AFO. Methods: Mechanical cost-of-transport, self-selected walking speed, and key biomechanical variables were measured while individuals greater than six months post-stroke walked with No AFO, with their SOC AFO, and with a stiffness-customized PD-AFO. Outcomes were compared across these conditions using a repeated measures ANOVA or Friedman test (depending on normality) for group-level analysis and simulation modeling analysis for individual-level analysis. Results: Twenty participants completed study activities. Mechanical cost-of-transport and self-selected walking speed improved with the stiffness-customized PD-AFOs compared to No AFO and SOC AFO. However, this did not result in a consistent improvement in other biomechanical variables toward typical values. In line with the heterogeneous nature of the post-stroke population, the response to the PD-AFO was highly variable. Conclusions: Stiffness-customized PD-AFOs can improve the mechanical cost-of-transport and self-selected walking speed in many individuals post-stroke, as compared to No AFO and participants' standard of care AFO. This work provides initial efficacy data for stiffness-customized PD-AFOs in individuals post-stroke and lays the foundation for future studies to enable consistently effective prescription of PD-AFOs for patients post-stroke in clinical practice. The effects of cognitive-motor interference on walking performance in adolescents with low balance

Abstract:Background: Children with reduced motor competence (MC) have reported differences in their walking performance when compared to their typically developed peers, albeit, with inconsistent results. Research questions: What is the effect of reduced balance on walking performance in adolescent boys and girls under cognitive-motor interference conditions? Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed motor competence, in adolescents aged 13-14 years, using the Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2nd edition and walking performance from gait parameters derived from an inertial measurement unit placed over the estimated centre of mass. Each participant performed two 10 m straight-line walks at their self-selected speed. These consisted of a walk with no distractions and a cognitive-motor interference walk (reciting the alternate letters of the alphabet out loud). A two-way mixed ANOVA was used to assess for significant interactions. Results: 365 adolescents, (low balance = 58, typical balance = 307) participated in this study (boys = 204, girls = 161). Significant interactions were reported between MC groups and walking condition for walking speed in boys (F(1,195) = 5.23, p= 0.02, ηp2 = 0.03) and girls (F(1,154) = 4.05, p= 0.046, ηp2 = 0.03). Both sexes with low balance reduced their walking speed to a greater extent than their typically developed peers under cognitive-motor interference conditions compared to the single-task walk. In addition, boys with low balance reported increased stride length variability (F(1,198)= 4.40, p= 0.037, ηp2= 0.02) compared to typically developed peers. Significance: Adolescents with low balance report altered walking. Our data could support a better understanding of the relationship between balance and gait and may help the development of interventions to support those with difficulties.
The Effects of Pedestrian Environment on Ambulation with a Walking Frame in Elderly Individuals: A Survey and Experimental Study

Abstract:Understanding the effects of sloped roads in the pedestrian environment on the body during ambulation with a walking frame can help design friendlier living environments for elderly individuals. A survey of the characteristics of walking frames used in different pedestrian environments was investigated in five communities, and a controlled study of the effects of a sloped road on a subject with different walking frames was carried out as foundational research in the laboratory. A synchronous acquisition system consisting of a wireless motion capture module and a physiological information recording module was applied to collect data on the motion of the shoulder joint and skin conductance response (SCR) of fingers in one participant. Force data were collected from sensors placed on the four legs of the walking frame. The experimental data obtained during different tasks were quantitatively analyzed. Compared to flat ground, the shoulder joint rotated in the opposite direction in horizontal and internal/external planes when using a wheeled walking frame on an uphill road, and the supportive force decreased on both uphill and downhill roads. The range of motion of the shoulder joint reduced and the direction of the shoulder joint motion changed when using a footed walking frame on both uphill and downhill roads. Additionally, the peak value of the supportive force on the uphill road appeared in the first 50% of the gait cycle, which was earlier than in the other cases. In addition, walking on the uphill road with a walking frame had a maximum SCR value, which means a greater impact of psychological arousal. Biomechanics of the shoulder joint and psychological arousal are closely related to the ease of walking on a sloped road with a walking frame. These findings are beneficial for designing more appropriate environments for elderly individuals who walk with aids.

Abstract:Journal of Child Health Care, Ahead of Print. Children with physical disabilities are less physically active than children with typical development. How children's experiences of using walkers relates to their physical activity has not been studied previously. This study aimed to explore perspectives of walker use and their potential to increase physical activity. Four focus groups were conducted with children aged 7–10 (n = 3; 12.5%), aged 9–12 (n = 4; 16.7%), parents (n = 7; 29.2%) and paediatric physiotherapists (n = 10; 41.7%). Groups were audio recorded and transcribed. Data were analysed using framework analysis. An overarching concept of walkers needing flexibility to accommodate individual, interpersonal and environmental variability was underpinned by three themes: (a) contrasting drivers for use/non-use of walkers, (b) trade-offs, (c) acceptance of technology within walkers to increase physical activity. Participants were motivated by differing drivers: social for children, emotional for parents and professional for physiotherapists. These contrasting drivers create trade-offs, for example between quality of movement and independence. To maximise physical activity, walker prescribers and designers should prioritise drivers that motivate children and parents, ensuring goal setting is family-centred and participation orientated. Involving families in co-designing walkers is therefore important. Individual clinical assessment allows for identification of children's specific needs and how a child's, parent's and physiotherapist's goals may differ.

Can foot orthoses impose different gait features based on geometrical design in healthy subjects? A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective: Foot orthoses (FOs) are popular treatment to alleviate several abnormalities of lower extremity. FO designs might alter lower extremity biomechanics differently, but the association is not yet known. This review aimed to evaluate how different FO designs, namely FO with medial posting, lateral posting, arch support, or arch & heel support, change lower limb kinematics and kinetics during walking. Literature survey: Electronic database search were conducted from inception to March 2019, and 25 papers passed the inclusion criteria. Two independent reviewers checked the quality using a modified Downs and Black checklist (73.7±5.5%) and a biomechanical quality checklist (71.4±17.1%). Effect sizes for differences between with- and without- FO walking were calculated, and meta-analysis was performed whenever at least two studies reported the same variable. Results: Medial posting reduced peak ankle eversion moment. Lateral posting brought about higher peak ankle dorsiflexion and peak ankle eversion for kinematics, as well as higher peak ankle abduction moment, lower peak knee adduction moment, and higher peak mediolateral ground reaction force (GRF) for kinetics. FOs with either arch support or arch & heel support tended to decrease vertical ground reaction force, but it was not significant. Conclusion: The findings of this review reveal that medial or lateral posting work efficiently to change foot and knee kinematics and kinetics. However, the impact force is just slightly decreased by arch-supported and heel supported FOs. Due to the small number of available studies, and heterogeneity in meta-analysis findings, further research with more standardized biomechanical approach are required.

Abstract:Background: Gait, particularly walking speed (WS), has emerged as an essential indicator of health. WS is indicative of current health and predicts future health trends, especially in older adults. Notably, a 0.1 m/s WS increase corresponds to a 12% rise in survival among this demographic, establishing WS as a powerful prognostic tool. This has resulted in the designation of WS as the "6th vital sign", which is applicable to a broad spectrum of medical conditions. Additionally, computerized gait analysis reveals nuanced differences in movement patterns across age groups. This review provides a detailed insight into the multifaceted nature of gait and its health implications. Purpose: This review's primary objective is to underscore the significance of gait and WS as pivotal health markers. By framing WS as the "6th vital sign" and delving into gait's complexities using digital analysis, the review aims to elucidate how gait metrics inform health trajectories in diverse medical scenarios. Methods: Our analysis employed laboratory-based three-dimensional gait techniques. Kinematic data were obtained using infrared markers on the body and triangulated with multiple cameras. Concurrently, force plates within electronic pathways captured kinetic data, such as ground reaction forces. Data collection was guided by a pre-established checklist encompassing specific conditions (including Parkinson’s Disease, Lumbar disk herniation, Chronic Mechanical Lower back pain, Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Depression, Hip Osteoarthritis, COPD), analysis tools (e.g., type of cameras, force plates), kinematic and kinetic parameters (e.g., support moments, momentum), and potential psychological impacts on participants (e.g., Hawthorne and “white-coat” effects). The clinical significance of our data was validated against existing research on gait pattern variations in mentioned conditions, ensuring quality through stringent research standards. Conclusion: Spatiotemporal gait analysis, especially with machine learning application, is nascent. Although there's potential in its diagnostic capability, extensive research is needed for clinical use. Our focus was primarily on Parkinson’s Disease, aiming to gauge machine learning's role in discerning pathological from normal gait using spatiotemporal metrics. Future investigations should explore this approach for different gait-related conditions.

Abstract:Background: Unstable gait leading to falls negatively impacts the quality of life in many people with Parkinson's disease (PD). Systematic review evidence provides moderate to strong evidence of efficacy for a wide range of physiotherapy-based interventions to reduce gait impairment. However, outcomes have often focused on gait assessments conducted in controlled laboratory or clinical environments. Objective: This perspective investigates the complexities and challenges of conducting real-world gait assessments in people with PD and the factors that may influence the translation from improved lab-assessed gait to improved real-world gait. Methods: Through a thorough review of current literature, we present an in-depth analysis of current methodological approaches to real-world gait assessments and the challenges that may influence the translation of an intervention's success from lab-based outcomes to improved walking during daily life. Results: We identified six key factors that may influence the translation of intervention success into real-world environments at different stages of the process. These factors comprise the gait intervention, parameters analyzed, sensor setup, assessment protocols, characteristics of walking bouts, and medication status. We provide recommendations for each factor based on our synthesis of current literature. Conclusion: This perspective emphasizes the importance of measuring intervention success outside of the laboratory environment using real-world gait assessments. Our findings support the need for future studies to bridge the gap between proven efficacy for gait as assessed in controlled laboratory environments and real-world impact for people with PD.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Quantitative gait analysis is essential for evaluating walking and running patterns for markers of pathology, injury, or other gait characteristics. It is expected that the portability, affordability, and applicability of wearable devices to many different populations will have contributed advancements in understanding the real-world gait patterns of walkers and runners. Therefore, the purpose of this systematic review was to identify how wearable devices are being used for gait analysis in out-of-lab settings.METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in the following scientific databases: PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE, and SportDiscus. Each of the included articles was assessed using a custom quality assessment. Information was extracted from each included article regarding the participants, protocol, sensor(s), and analysis.RESULTS: A total of 61 articles were reviewed: 47 involved gait analysis during walking, 13 involved gait analysis during running, and one involved both walking and running. Most studies performed adequately on measures of reporting, and external and internal validity, but did not provide a sufficient description of power. Small, unobtrusive wearable devices have been used in retrospective studies, producing unique measures of gait quality. Walking, but not running, studies have begun to use wearable devices for gait analysis among large numbers of participants in their natural environment.CONCLUSIONS: Despite the advantages provided by the portability and accessibility of wearable devices, more studies monitoring gait over long periods of time, among large numbers of participants, and in natural walking and running environments are needed to analyze real-world gait patterns, and would facilitate prospective, subject-specific, and subgroup investigations. The development of wearables-specific metrics for gait analysis provide insights regarding the quality of gait that cannot be determined using traditional components of in-lab gait analyses. However, guidelines for the usability of wearable devices and the validity of wearables-based measurements of gait quality need to be established.

Abstract:Background: Overweight and obesity are significant global health concerns that involve deficits in gait and balance that affect daily activities. Although much is reported about the effect of overweight and obesity on gait during unobstructed walking, not much is known about how overweight and obesity could impact gait under more challenging conditions, such as environments with obstacles. Objective: The aim of this study is to systematically review and synthesize the available data regarding the effects of overweight and obesity on obstacle crossing during walking. Methods: This review will follow the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) guidelines. PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and SPORTDiscus will be systematically searched with no limitations on publication date. Only full-text English-language articles published in a peer-reviewed journal will be included. Included articles must have compared obstacle crossing during walking in individuals with overweight or obesity to individuals of normal body weight. A total of 2 independent reviewers will select the articles and extract the following 4 sets of data: (1) study characteristics, (2) sample description, (3) obstacle crossing task protocol, and (4) main results obtained. If a considerable number of homogeneous papers are included, a meta-analysis will be conducted. A preliminary search was conducted in November 2021. Results: The results will include the article selection flowchart as well as tables and figures synthesizing the extracted data on the effects of overweight and obesity on obstacle crossing during walking. The preliminary search identified 73 original records, of which 5 articles met the inclusion criteria. Conclusions: This review will present researchers and clinicians with an overview of published studies that have compared the performance of obstacle crossing for individuals with overweight and obesity to those of normal body weight. Gaining insight into the control strategies adopted by individuals with overweight and obesity is critical for safe and successful obstacle crossing in this population. We therefore believe that our findings could be useful for identifying people at risk of falls and developing and implementing fall prevention programs for individuals with overweight and obesity. Abstract:This study aims to compared effect of balance between general walking exercise and power walking exercise. Twenty subjects were classified into two groups, general walking exercise(n=10) and power walking exercise(n=10). As a result, two group showed difference within the group and there is significant difference between two groups. 1) In compared static balance of sway area at pre-post test to exercise group, general walking exercise group did not change significantly. however, power walking exercise group did change significantly. and At sway distance, two group showed significant changes. 2) In compared Static balance between the groups sway area and sway path at pre-post test, two group showed significant changes. 3) In compared dynamic balance of center distance at pre-post test to exercise group, general walking exercise group was no significant difference in all directions. power walking exercise group was significant difference in all directions. 4) In compared dynamic balance between the groups sway area and sway path at pre-post test, there was no significant difference in leftward, rightward, forward directions and was significant difference in backward, overall direction. Therefore, power walking exercise can be recommended promote balance.
