Abstract:Correct knowledge of noise statistics is essential for an effective estimator in maneuvering target tracking. In practice, however, the noise statistics are usually unknown or not perfectly known. To deal with the estimation problem in linear discrete-time systems with Markov jump parameters, where the measurement noise covariance is unknown, a novel approach is presented in this paper. This approach is based on the interacting multiple model (IMM) framework. An H ∞ filter is employed to construct a noise statistics estimator to obtain the information which is necessary for the IMM algorithm. In our approach, even the priori knowledge of noise statistics is not needed. The noise statistics loss problem is solved while the merits of IMM algorithm is reserved. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated in comparison with single-model H ∞ filter through Monte Carlo simulation for maneuvering target tracking.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a novel multiple-model probability hypothesis density (MMPHD) filter for multiple maneuvering targets tracking. In the proposed MMPHD filter, the multiple models are composed of two models, namely a constant velocity (CV) model and a Â¿currentÂ¿ statistical (CS) model, and the PHD is approximated by a set of weighted random samples propagated over time using sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods. This resulting filter requires no knowledge of models and model transition probabilities for different maneuvering motions. Simulation results demonstrate that compared with the standard MMPHD filter, the proposed filter shows similar tracking performances but has faster processing rate.

Abstract:The multiple fading factors are constructed for adjusting prediction covariance matrix in the IMM prediction process, and a cost function based on the maximum correntropy criterion is designed in the IMM update step to obtain an iterative state estimation solution by maximizing this function. A robust interacting multiple model approach is proposed to address the problem of accuracy and non‐Gaussian measurement noise in manoeuvering target tracking. The proposed approach introduces multiple fading factors into the prediction covariance matrix and adjusts each channel of the gain matrix in real time to improve the accuracy caused by model mismatch and enhance state transition capability. Considering the non‐Gaussian noise, an improved IMM filter is constructed to further improve the robustness using the maximum correntropy criterion. The simulation results show that the proposed approach can effectively suppress the non‐Gaussian noise and improve the accuracy with adaptability and robustness.

Abstract:The probability hypothesis density (PHD) filter, which propagates only the first moment (or PHD) instead of the full target posterior, has been shown to be a computationally efficient solution to multi-target tracking problems. Incorporating the current statistical model that is effective in dealing with the maneuvering motions, this paper proposes a current statistical model PHD (CSMPHD) filter for multiple maneuvering targets tracking. This proposed filter approximates the PHD by a set of weighted random samples propagated over time based on the current statistical model using sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed filter shows similar performances with the multiple-model PHD (MMPHD) filter, but it avoids the difficulty of model selection for maneuvering targets and has faster processing rate.

Abstract:The interacting multiple model (IMM) estimator based on the Kalman and extended Kalman filters can reduce the model uncertainty, but can not eliminate the state bias. The accuracy of target state estimates was improved with a tracking algorithm for maneuvering targets with correlated noise which combines IMM with the suboptimal multiple fading extended Kalman filter (SMFEKF). This algorithm makes the residual error approximately orthogonal by introducing a suboptimal fading factor matrix. This approach reduces the effect of the correlated noise so that the maneuvering target can be fit by dynamically adjusting the gain and noise levels based on the changing of the residual error. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Aiming at the uncertainty of target motion-mode and the nonlinearity of target motion model,this paper proposes an Interacting Multiple Model（IMM） algorithm based on Unscented Kalman Filter（UKF）.The constant velocity model,the constant acceleration model,the coordinated turn model for fixed angular velocity and the ＂current＂ statistical model are chosen as the model set,and the Unscented Kalman Filter is proposed to realize the nonlinear state estimation.The simulation results show that this algorithm has higher tracking performance than the traditional IMM algorithm.

Abstract:The multiple-model multi-Bernoulli (MM-MB) filter is a new attractive approach for estimating multiple maneuvering targets in the presence of clutter, missed detection and data association uncertainty. In this paper, we extend the Gaussian Mixture (GM)MM-MB filter to nonlinear models by using unscented transform techniques. Moreover, in order to improve the robustness and numerical stability of the unscented Kalman (UK) GM-MM-MB filtering algorithm, we propose the squareroot UK (SUK) GM implementation of the MM-MB filter for nonlinear models. A numerical example is presented to verify the effectiveness of the UK-GM-MM-MB and SUK-GM-MM-MB filtering approaches. Simulation results also show that the SUK-GM-MM-MB filtering approach produces the same filtering accuracy as the UK-GM-MM-MB filtering approach.

Abstract:In nonlinear maneuvering target tracking,filters are liable to diverge or have large tracking errors.To solve the problem,an interacting multiple model with unscented Kalman filter(IMM-UKF) algorithm is designed by introducing UKF into IMM algorithm based on bearings-only tracking for multi-stations.The algorithm is not affected by the linearization error in extended Kalman filter(EKF) filter.Finally,the algorithm is compared with EKF,IMM-EKF algorithms.Simulations show that the IMM-UKF algorithm is more stable and effective,thus improving the convergence speed and tracking precision.
A Novel Adaptive Estimator for Maneuvering Target Tracking

Abstract:A new method for maneuvering target tracking using "current" statistical model is presented. When tracked target maneuver occurs, "current" statistical model can detect the maneuver immediately and estimate the maneuver value accurately, and then the tracking filter will be compensated correctly and duly by estimated maneuver value. Based on this model, an Interacting Multiple Model (IMM) estimator with Kalman Filter (KF) as filter module is developed. For evaluating the performance of the estimator, a maneuvering target scenario is included. Simulation results show that the performance is superior to the traditional IMM algorithms when target maneuver is considered, and the method also yields lower computational load.

Abstract:Nesprin-1alpha is a spectrin repeat (SR)-containing, transmembrane protein of the inner nuclear membrane, and is highly expressed in muscle cells. A yeast two-hybrid screen for nesprin-1alpha-interacting proteins showed that nesprin-1alpha interacted with itself. Blot overlay experiments revealed that nesprin-1alpha's third SR binds the fifth SR. The carboxy-terminal half of nesprin-1alpha directly bound lamin A, a nuclear intermediate filament protein. Biochemical analysis demonstrated that nesprin-1alpha dimers bind directly to the nucleoplasmic domain of emerin, an inner nuclear membrane protein, with an affinity of 4 nM. Binding was optimal for full nucleoplasmic dimers of nesprin-1alpha, since nesprin fragments SR1-5 and SR5-7 bound emerin as monomers with affinities of 53 nM and 250 mM, respectively. We propose that membrane-anchored nesprin-1alpha antiparallel dimers interact with both emerin and lamin A to provide scaffolding at the inner nuclear membrane.

Abstract:In the traditional interacting multiple algorithm, the method of mode estimation based on the idea of “soft switching” reduces the quantity of computation greatly, but leads to suboptimal tracking performance. To improve the performance, we propose a new IMM algorithm incorporating maneuver detection. This algorithm uses the point process filter in real time to obtatin the current probability of system modes, and realizes the improvement of the performance. The simulation results show excellent performance of the new algorithm.

Abstract:In an intelligent transportation system (ITS), the single motion model is not enough to meet the needs of simulation systems (or practical applications) and guarantee good tracking performance for multiple maneuvering extended target tracking (ETT). This paper presents multiple models Poisson multi-Bernoulli mixture (MM-PMBM) filter for extended target tracking to address this problem. To make multiple models transform in an accurate manner, the jump Markov system (JMS) is timely introduced in filtering recursion. After that, the model probability of target is recursively updated and used to estimate the target position. In addition, we derive the closed-form solution to the proposed filter based on the Gamma Gaussian inverse-Wishart (GGIW) implementation. The approach to handling the merging problem of GGIW components via Kullback-Leibler divergence (KLD) minimization is also presented, resulting in better utilization of available components. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed filter has superior performance in comparison to several state-of-the-art multi-target filters.

Abstract:An adaptive target tracking method based on extended Kalman filter (TT-EKF) is proposed to simultaneously estimate the state of an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and an mobile recovery system (MRS) with unknown non-Gaussian process noise in homing process. In the application scenario of this article, the process noise includes the measurement noise of AUV heading and forward speed and the estimation error of MRS heading and forward speed. The accuracy of process noise covariance matrix (PNCM) can affect the state estimation performance of the TT-EKF. The variational Bayesian based algorithm is applied to estimate the process noise statistics. We use a Gaussian mixture distribution to model the non-Gaussian noisy forward speed of AUV and MRS. We use a von-Mises distribution to model the noisy heading of AUV and MRS. The variational Bayesian algorithm is applied to estimate the parameters of these distributions, and then the PNCM can be calculated. The prediction error of TT-EKF is online compensated by using a multilayer neural network, and the neural network is online trained during the target tracking process. Matlab simulation and experimental data analysis results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:A two-layer Interactive Multiple Model(IMM)tracking algorithm is put forward for high speed and high maneu-vering target, which includes complex maneuvering modes, especially turn maneuvering. The inner layer is composed of modified current statistical model. Turn angular velocity and angular acceleration can be attained by filtering the heading angle of target. The outer layer is composed by constant model and curvilinear model. Cross-track acceleration and turn angular velocity of curvilinear model parameter could be adjusted adaptively from inner layer model. The outer layer models are filtered by IMM. The simulations show that the algorithm has better tracking precision for high speed and high maneu-vering target. The algorithm is easily implemented, and the algorithm has some practical application value.

Abstract:Interacting multiple model (IMM) filter is a classical method to track targets in hybrid situations. However, it can exhibit divergence when the models are correlated or the system suffers from uncertainties. The generalized covariance intersection method based on the weighted Kullback–Leibler (K–L) divergence can solve the divergence problem of correlated estimates. A novel interacting multiple model (NIMM) filter is presented that combines two different algorithms, the adaptive fading Kalman filter and the maximum correntropy Kalman filter, based on the model interacting with the weighted K-L divergence to address the uncertainty problems of the system. The NIMM filter algorithm is designed and the stability and accuracy are analyzed. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed filter can effectively improve the accuracy under different uncertainty conditions for classical examples and ballistic trajectory tracking scenarios.

Abstract:The strength of Generalized Pseudo Bayesian (GPB) algorithms is exploited in the presented study to enhance the target tracking precision, effective model approximation and rapid convergence of multimodel maneuvering object tracking. The GPB methods are considered to be suitable for approximating systems whose dynamics follow discrete-time and fixed state Markov process. Underwater maneuvering target tracking problems are usually solved with nonlinear Bayesian algorithms, in which kinetics of object are associated with passive bearings using state-space modeling. Here accuracy and convergence of GPB methods based on Interacting Multiple Model Extended Kalman Filter (IMMEKF), Interacting Multiple Model Extended Kalman Smoother (IMMEKS), Interacting Multiple Model Unscented Kalman Filter (IMMUKF) and Interacting Multiple Model Unscented Kalman Smoother (IMMUKS) are efficiently analyzed for tracking of multimodel maneuvering target in complex ocean environment. Application of these algorithms is systematically presented for estimating the real-time state of a maneuvering object that follows a coordinated turn trajectory. Performance analysis of IMM Kalman filters and smoothers is done with variations in the standard deviation of white Gaussian measurement noise by following Bearings Only Tracking (BOT) phenomena. Least Mean Square Error (MSE) between approximated and the real position of maneuvering target in rectangular coordinates is calculated for analyzing the performance of filtering and smoothing techniques. Simulation results of the Monte Carlo runs validate the effectiveness of IMMEKS and IMMUKS over IMMEKF and IMMUKF for scenario of given framework.

An Improved Gaussian Mixture Particle Filter Based Targets Tracking Algorithm for Bearing-Only Tracking System

Abstract:An improved Gaussian mixture particle filter algorithm is proposed for the highly non-linear bearing-only tracking system where the common tracking filters often fail to catch and keep tracking of the emitter.In the algorithm,based on the characteristics of SPKF and particle filter,the limited Gaussian mixture model is used to approximate the posterior density of states,system noise and measurement noise.The greedy EM is used to obtain the reduced order model and overcome such disadvantages of the standard EM as the number of the mixture components is assumed a known a priori,the performance of the overall parameter estimation process depends on the given good initial settings,and the estimated parameter can be resulted from some local optimum points,thus lessening effects caused by sampling depletion.Simulation results show that the algorithm outperforms the one based on PF and the one based on EM-GMPF in tracking accuracy and stability.Therefore it is more suitable to the nonlinear state estimation.
Maneuvering target tracking using passive TDOA measurements

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel interacting multiple model (IMM) algorithm to track a maneuvering target, with the aim of improving the tracking performance of a time difference of arrival (TDOA) passive tracking system. Under the architecture of the proposed algorithm, the multiple model deals with the model switching, while the iterated extended Kalman filter (EKF) accounts for non-linearity in the dynamic system models. The tracking performances of the proposed algorithm, EKF, IMM are compared via Monte Carlo simulations. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm is an effective nonlinear filtering algorithm for TDOA passive tracking system, and has higher tracking precision than the IMM and EKF. The proposed algorithm can reduce nearly 6.75% and 61.23% of the positioning error than IMM and EKF algorithms.
