Abstract:Efficient and stable water purification is essential for the protection of water resources. Current adsorbents based on metal-organic frameworks face limitations of restricted active sites and single adsorption objects. In this study, we developed a cost-effective and environmentally friendly Tea-L-CDs@Ce-UiO-66-F4 composites by growing Tea and L-tryptophan carbon dots (Tea-L-CDs) over Ce-UiO-66-F4 MOF, and the interaction force was enhanced by hydrogen bonding (-F/O/N...H-O-, -F/O/N...H-N-, etc.) to achieve universal adsorption. In detail, the maximum adsorption capacity (qm) of the adsorbent for trypan blue (TB), congo red (CR), and CR (adjust pH) was 773.4, 1428.6, and 4761.9 mg/g. The universal experiment showed that the composites exhibited excellent qm for alizarin red S (ARS, 662.7 mg/g) and rhodamine B (RdB, 374.0 mg/g). Meanwhile, Tea-L-CDs@Ce-UiO66-F4 composites maintained good anti-interference ability (salt solution, temperature, etc.). Remarkably, the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for dyes exceeded 97 % of qm within 1 min of contact time. The adsorption performance of synthetic material for TB, CR, ARS, and RdB is better than most of the adsorbents, especially the qm for TB is higher than any adsorbent previously reported. Besides, this adsorbent had excellent storage stability in the air for 30 days. Based on this nanomaterial, we successfully developed an automated dye filtration and contamination assessment system for blocking dye-attached adsorbent and online detection of dye residues after water purification. Thus, the synthesized Tea-L-CDs@Ce-UiO-66-F4 composites, with universal adsorption, high efficiency, and good storage stability, hold great potential for wastewater purification.
New Y0.045Ni0.045Fe2.91O4 nanowires decorated over mesoporous silica for crystal violet removal: Response surface methodology optimization, kinetics, and isothermal studies

Abstract:Recently, there has been considerable interest in developing an efficient, easily separable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly catalyst for treating toxic environmental pollutants. In this study, we successfully designed yttrium–nickel-doped magnetite nanowires (Y0.045Ni0.045Fe2.91O4) and their mesoporous silica (MS)-coated composite (Y0.045Ni0.045Fe2.91O4 /MS) using a simple coprecipitation method. The resulting composite demonstrated effective adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet (CV) dye under sunlight. Various instrumental characterization techniques were employed to assess the nanowires' morphological, chemical, and surface functional properties and their composite. The existence of metal–oxygen bonds in Y0.045Ni0.045Fe2.91O4 within the 500–800 cm−1 range was verified through FTIR analysis. According to the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis, the composite exhibited a surface area of 285 m2/g, a pore volume of 0.436 cm³/g, and an average pore width of 5 nm. The composite's high surface area and mesoporous nature underscored its porous structure, confirming its enhanced adsorption capacity for contaminants. High resolution XPS spectrum justified the presence of surface silanol groups (Si–OH) which are responsible for adsorption phenomena. Photocatalytic experiments revealed that Y0.045Ni0.045Fe2.91O4 nanowires and their composites achieved 89% and 90% degradation rates for CV dye within 60 and 10 min, respectively. The removal efficiency was assessed under optimized conditions of pH (8), dose (15 mg), time (60 and 10 min), and concentration (10 mg/L). Statistical analysis revealed that pH significantly impacted CV dye removal because functional group activation varied at different pH values. To elucidate the adsorption mechanism and kinetics, the Temkin isotherm model and pseudo-second-order kinetics model (R2 = 1.996 mg min−1) were the best fit for the composite. Furthermore, approximately 99% of the nanowires were magnetically separated from the reaction mixture in an external magnetic field. The demonstrated synergy of efficient adsorption–photocatalysis, coupled with easy recovery, suggests that innovatively designed nanomaterials are optimal for the water remediation of organic pollutants in wastewater.

Abstract:Herein, we report the synthesis of a novel bio-nanocomposite (Alg-Cst/Kal) for the effective removal of the dye "Crystal Violet" from its aqueous solutions. In order to observe the surface morphology and functional groups, the bio-nanocomposite was characterized using various techniques such as SEM, EDX, TEM, FTIR, XRD, and TGA. The effect of parameters like contact time, pH, concentration and temperature on the adsorption of the dye over adsorbent has been studied in detail. The dye - adsorbent system has been tested over various isotherm models and found to follow the Freundlich adsorption isotherm model at 303 K. The developed bio-nanocomposite material exhibits an excellent adsorption toward Crystal Violet with a maximum adsorption capacity of 169.49 mg.g-1. The experimental data has been further validated by applying various kinetic models and the pseudo-second order kinetic model was the best suited model. The calculated rate constant values ranged from 0.0046 to 0.0204 g.mg-1.min-1 for different dye concentrations. The positive values of change in enthalpy, ΔH° (9.765 kJ.mol-1) and change in entropy, ΔS° (0.0565 kJ.mol-1.K-1) obtained through thermodynamic studies demonstrate the endothermic nature and spontaneity of the adsorption process, respectively. The adsorption capacity of the adsorbent for the removal of the Crystal Violet dye was also compared with other adsorbents and found maximum. Novelty statement A novel bio-nanocomposite is synthesized by modifying the biopolymer alginate, cysteine and mixing the clay, kaolinite (Kal). The adsorption abilities of the material was tested the on the cationic hazardous dye, Crystal Violet. The material is novel and no attempt has so far been made to examine its batch adsorption abilities to remove hazardous dyes from the wastewater. The results are highly encouraging as out of all the adsorbents tested so far highest adsorption of the dye is observed in the present studies.

Abstract:This research investigates the synthesis of a hybrid nanomaterial, denoted as Ni‐Zn−S@Cyclodextrine, through a cost‐effective and easy co‐precipitation method. The resulting nanomaterial has been thoroughly characterized and applied for the adsorptive removal of Crystal violet and Congo red dyes from their solutions. The adsorbent has shown a strong affinity for both the dyes, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 138.20 mgg−1 for Congo red and 129.95 mgg−1 for Crystal violet at 303 K. This research investigates the synthesis of a hybrid nanomaterial, denoted as Ni‐Zn−S@Cyclodextrine, through a cost‐effective and easy co‐precipitation method. The resulting nanomaterial has been thoroughly characterized and applied for the adsorptive removal of Crystal violet and Congo red dyes from their solutions. The study delves into the thermodynamics and kinetics of the sorption process, as well as helps to propose adsorption mechanism for both the dyes onto the Ni‐Zn−S@Cyclodextrine surface. A comprehensive analysis, encompassing techniques, such as XRD, FTIR, SEM‐EDX, TEM, TGA, Zeta potential, and XPS, have been conducted to explore the structural and morphological attributes of the prepared nanomaterial. Furthermore, key sorption parameters, including adsorbent's dosage, temperature, contact time, and solution pH, have been systematically optimized to achieve maximum efficiency. The TEM images of prepared nanomaterial indicated the particle size ranging between 60–80 nm. Moreover, it exhibited a strong affinity for both the dyes, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 138.20 mgg−1 for Congo red and 129.95 mgg−1 for Crystal violet dyes at 303 K. The thermodynamics of the adsorption process indicated an endothermic and spontaneous nature. Isotherm studies revealed that the data best aligned with the Freundlich isotherm, while the kinetics of the reaction adhered to a pseudo‐second order within the investigated temperature range.

Abstract:The textile industry is considered a source of pollution because of the discharge of dye wastewater. The dye wastewater effluent has a significant impact on the aquatic environment. According to the World Bank, textile dyeing, and treatment contribute 17 to 20% of water pollution. This paper aims to prepare the bimetallic nano zero-valent iron-copper (Fe0-Cu), algae-activated carbon, and their composites (AC-Fe0-Cu), employed as adsorbents. In this paper, synthetic adsorbents are prepared and examined for the adsorption and removal of soluble cationic crystal violet (CV) dye. The influence of synthetic adsorbents on the adsorption and removal of soluble cationic crystal violet (CV) dye is investigated using UV-V spectroscopy at different pH (3 - 10), time intervals (15 – 180) minutes, and initial dye concentrations (50 - 500 ppm). Kinetic and isothermal models are used to fit the data of time and concentration experiments. DLS, zeta potential, FT-IR, XRD, and SEM characterize the prepared materials. Response surface methodology (RSM) is used to model the removal efficiency and then turned into a numerical optimization approach to determine the optimum conditions for improving dye removal efficiency. An artificial neural network (ANN) is also used to model the removal efficiency.

Enhanced Removal of Methyl Violet Dye from Aqueous Solution by a Novel Co3O4@SiO2@TiO2-Ag Heterogeneous Semiconductor

Abstract:Background: This research proposes the application of a novel photocatalyst including Co3O4@SiO2@TiO2-Ag nanocomposite with highly photocatalytic stability and core-shell structure for the removal of toxic methyl violet from aqueous solution. Objective: The removal of toxic dyes and organic contaminants from water is an outstanding research area among the scientists. Methyl violet is a toxic cationic pollutant that has a disruptive influence on humans. In this research, with an aim to remove methyl violet from the wastewater, we developed a new photocatalyst including Co3O4@SiO2@TiO2-Ag nanocomposite as an ecofriendly and low-cost nanostructure with high photocatalytic activity in order to reduce the risks of this pollutant from aqueous media. Methods: The Co3O4@SiO2@TiO2-Ag nanostructure was prepared via hydrothermal and sol-gel methods and the structure elucidation of the prepared photocatalyst was analyzed by different spectroscopy techniques, including XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, TEM, VSM and EDX. Results: Photodegradation of methyl violet in the presence of different structures showed that Co3O4@SiO2@TiO2-Ag possesses superior photocatalytic activity (about 98% decomposed after 40 min) compared to the previous shells and pure Co3O4 NPs. Loadings of SiO2@TiO2-Ag nanocomposite over the Co3O4 surface led to the reduction in the bandgap energy of visible light and improvement in the photocatalytic activity of Methyl Violet dye f o r the aqueous phase decomposition. Conclusion: The remarkable benefits of this nanocomposite are high photocatalytic efficiency in the degradation of methyl violet (almost 100 % within 1 h), easy magnetic separation, low cost, and high chemical stability. The collected results demonstrated that the rate of degradation increased by increasing the irradiation time, while the rate of degradation decreased with increasing dye concentration.

Abstract:Oak forests dominate much of the eastern USA, but their future is uncertain due to a number of threats and widespread failure of oak regeneration. A sudden loss of oaks (Quercus spp.) could be accompanied by major changes in forest nitrogen (N) cycles with important implications for plant nutrient uptake and tree species composition. In this study, we measured the changes in N use and growth rates of black birch trees (Betula lenta L.) following oak girdling at the Black Rock Forest in southeastern New York, USA. Data were collected from nine experimental plots composed of three treatments: 100% oaks girdled (OG), 50% oaks girdled (O50) and control (C). Foliar N concentration and foliar (15)N abundance increased significantly in the oak-girdled plots relative to the control, indicating that the loss of oaks significantly altered N cycling dynamics. As mineralization and nitrification rates increase following oak loss, black birch trees increase N absorption as indicated by higher foliar N content and increased growth rates. Foliar N concentration increased by 15.5% in the O50 and 30.6% in the OG plots relative to the control, while O50 and OG plots were enriched in (15)N by 1.08‰ and 3.33‰, respectively (P < 0.0001). A 641% increase in black birch growth rates in OG plots suggests that this species is able to respond to additional N availability and/or increased light availability. The loss of oaks and subsequent increase in black birch productivity may have a lasting impact on ecosystem form and function.

Abstract:Since caustic dyes are a major component of wastewater used in printing and dyeing, they represent a significant risk to human health. It's getting harder to get rid of them efficiently. An appealing solution to this issue is adsorption based on biomass material aerogel. Here, using the sol-gel process and freeze-drying, an inventive three-dimensional porous aerogel (STA) was created using sodium alginate (SA) and TEMPO-oxidized cellulose (TOC) as raw materials, with the dual cross-linking effects of glutaraldehyde (GA) and Ca 2+ . Various characterization approaches and analytical methods were used to study STA. The results indicated that the addition of TOC resulted in the excellent pore structure, thermal stability, charge characteristic and adsorption capacity of STA. The adsorption capacity of STA was investigated by selecting crystalline violet (CV) as a typical cationic dye. Thereafter, the adsorption capacity was comprehensively analyzed by varying temperature, pH and adsorption time. The adsorption process conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the Langmuir isothermal adsorption model has a better fit, which was a single-molecule layer chemisorption process. The highest adsorption capacity reached 505.9 mg/g. Moreover, STA also possessed outstanding competitive adsorption capacity and cyclic adsorption performance.

Abstract:A nanostructured material, ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC), was synthesised in metal- and halide-free form and its use for the sequestration of crystal violet, a hazardous triphenylmethane dye, is reported for the first time. The OMC material is characterised using scanning transmission electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy for chemical analysis, by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and by nitrogen gas physisorption. The ideal conditions for the uptake of crystal violet dye were determined in batch experiments covering the standard parameters: pH, concentration, contact time, and adsorbent dosage. Experimental data are validated by applying Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin–Radushkevich, and Temkin isotherms. The thermodynamic parameters, ΔH°, ΔG°, and ΔS°, are calculated and it has been found that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic with increasing disorder. An in-depth analysis of the kinetics of the adsorption process, order of the reaction and corresponding values of the rate constants was performed. The adsorption of crystal violet over OMC has been found to follow pseudo-second-order kinetics through a film diffusion process at all temperatures studied. Continuous flow column operations were performed using fixed bed adsorption. Parameters including percentage saturation of the OMC bed are evaluated. The exhausted column was regenerated through a desorption process and column efficiency was determined.

Simple synthesis of the novel adsorbent BaCO3/g-C3N4 for rapid and high-efficient selective removal of Crystal Violet

Abstract:More people have studied the photocatalytic performance of graphitic carbon nitride without paying much attention to its adsorption modification. In this work, we first designed a novel hot dog-like BaCO3/g-C3N4 adsorbent by growing acicular g-C3N4 on insulator BaCO3, which exhibited an effective selective adsorption of crystal violet (CV). The adsorption efficiency of BaCO3/g-C3N4 for 800 mg/L crystal violet in 2 h was 96.67 %, which was far superior to that of solo g-C3N4 (14.40 %) or BaCO3 (7.45 %), and the corresponding maximum adsorption capacity could reach 1240.49 mg/g. The CV adsorption on BaCO3/g-C3N4 followed pseudo-second-order kinetic models and Langmuir isotherms, suggesting that the adsorption process may be controlled by chemical adsorption. Based on the structural analysis of BaCO3/g-C3N4 and the comparison of FT-IR and XPS of samples before and after adsorption, a possible mechanism for effective selective adsorption of CV was proposed, and the synergistic effects of π-π stacking, n-π interaction and hydrogen bonding were deduced to be responsible for the selective and efficient adsorption of CV on BaCO3/g-C3N4.

Abstract:The use of magnetic nanomaterials (MNPs) as adsorbents to eliminate pollution causing dyes from water has attracted substantial attention in recent years because they can be easily isolated and reused. In this work, core–shell Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 MNPs in which magnetic Fe 3 O 4 NPs as a core enclosed with a thick SiO 2 shell were successfully synthesized by chemical co–precipitation followed by hydrolysis and condensation of alkoxysilanes in a mixture of ammonia, ethanol and water. The formation of core–shell Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 MNPs has been characterized by TEM, TEM-EDS, XRD, FT-IR and VSM. TEM characterization revealed that several Fe 3 O 4 NPs (around 10 nm) aggregated to form a Fe 3 O 4 magnetic core and surrounded by an uniform SiO 2 shell of 40-50 nm thickness to obtain Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 magnetic core–shell NPs. As synthesized core–shell NPs were employed as adsorbent for elimination of two cationic toxic dyes, crystal violet (CV) and malachite green (MG) from aqueous solutions. Further, different adsorption parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage and contact times of the dyes were found to enhance the adsorption of cationic dyes. At neutral pH 7 the cationic dyes could be speedily removed from aqueous solution with high efficiency. It has been observed that 0.35 g of adsorbent dosage is sufficient for 95% of dye removal efficiency. The contact time is optimised for 20 min for both the dyes. The Langmuir model adsorption isotherm is best suitable which indicates that the cationic dyes adsorption behaviour of Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 is a homogeneous monolayer chemisorption process. The adsorptive binding of CV/MG with Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 was directed through electrostatic interactions. Moreover, the magnetic adsorbents could be easily reused and regenerated with almost no adsorption capability is significantly reduced up to 5 cycles. So, the Fe 3 O 4 @SiO 2 is an efficient and reusable adsorbent for rapid and removal of cationic dyes from the aqueous solution.

Abstract:We evaluated the risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) transmission via dental handpieces and the effects of an antisuction device in preventing HBV contamination. The results of our study show that under certain conditions, HBV transmission can occur when an antisuction device is used during dental procedures. We conclude that such devices may decrease contamination, but do not eliminate it.
Dye Removal from Wastewater Using Nanostructured Chitosan Aerogels Produced by Supercritical CO 2 Drying

Abstract:Background Dyes abundance in wastewaters poses environmental threats, and a cost-effective strategy to remediate dyed water is adsorption: this process could be enhanced using nanostructured sorbents, that expose high surface areas. Methods In this work, chitosan aerogel adsorbents were produced by supercritical CO 2 assisted drying, working at 200 bar, 35 °C, and CO 2 mass flow rate of 0.8 kg/h. FESEM images proved that the delicate biopolymeric network was intact thanks to near-zero surface tension at the interface between CO 2 and the liquid, and large supercritical fluid diffusivity. Methyl Orange (MO) and Crystal Violet (CV) were used as model anionic and cationic dyes, respectively. Significant Findings Changing dye initial concentration, chitosan aerogel showed different behavior at low and large driving forces, for both CV and MO. Adsorption experiments proved that MO could be not completely removed by aqueous solutions: whereas, CV removal was successful with removal efficiencies up to 89.0 ± 1.1% from a 10 ppm solution, using 50 mg of aerogel. FT-IR analysis proved that chitosan active sites were more effectively involved with CV rather than MO. Kinetic analysis, carried out for both dyes, showed that the process follows a pseudo-second order kinetics, related to internal mass transfer resistances and diffusion phenomena.

Abstract:In this study, a Sodium alginate-g-poly (acrylamide-clay)/TiO 2 hydrogel nanocomposite [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO 2 ] was synthesized using the biopolymer sodium alginate (SA), acrylamide (AM), and bentonite clay (Bn) as hybrid materials embedded with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) for the removal of toxic Congo Red (CR) dye from an aqueous solution. The [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO 2 ] nanocomposite has been described on the basis of thermal stability, morphological analysis, estimation of functional group, and crystalline/amorphous character by TGA, EFSEM/EDX, TEM, FT-IR, and XRD analysis, respectively. The effects of operational parameters toward the CR dye adsorption on [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO 2 ], including contact time, adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, initial pH, and temperature were investigated. The maximum adsorption efficiency was found to be 185.12 mg/g for [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO 2 ] in 100 mg/L of solution CR at pH 6.0 within 1 h. The equilibrium isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics parameters of adsorption were examined, and results showed that the isotherm fitted the Freundlich model and the kinetics adsorption model of CR followed pseudo-first-order, thus indicating physisorption of anionic-CR onto the sorbent due to the development of an electrostatic attraction bond. Thermodynamic parameters for [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO 2 ] have values (ΔG and ΔH) reflecting the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption processes. Moreover, [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)/TiO 2 ] presented outstanding excellent reusability and recyclability with a relatively best removal percentage as compared to [SA-g-p(AM-Bn)] and suggested their applicability towards the textile industry and water purification purposes.

Abstract:Currently, there is an increasing need to find new ways to purify water by eliminating bacterial biofilms, textile dyes, and toxic water pollutants. These contaminants pose significant risks to both human health and the environment. To address this issue, in this study, we have developed an eco-friendly approach that involves synthesizing a cobalt-doped cerium iron oxide (CCIO) nanocomposite (NC) using an aqueous extract of Gossypium arboreum L. stalks. The resulting nanoparticles can be used to effectively purify water and tackle the challenges associated with these harmful pollutants. Nanoparticles excel in water pollutant removal by providing a high surface area for efficient adsorption, versatile design for the simultaneous removal of multiple contaminants, catalytic properties for organic pollutant degradation, and magnetic features for easy separation, offering cost-effective and sustainable water treatment solutions. A CCIO nanocomposite was synthesized via a green co-precipitation method utilizing biomolecules and co-enzymes extracted from the aqueous solution of Gossypium arboreum L. stalk. This single-step synthesis process was accomplished within a 5-h reaction period. Furthermore, the synthesis of nanocomposites was confirmed by various characterization techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) technology. CCIO NCs were discovered to have a spherical shape and an average size of 40 nm. Based on DLS zeta potential analysis, CCIO NCs were found to be anionic. CCIO NCs also showed significant antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Overall, considering their physical and chemical properties, the application of CCIO NCs for the adsorption of various dyes (~91%) and water pollutants (chromium = ~60%) has been considered here since they exhibit great adsorption capacity owing to their microporous structure, and represent a step forward in water purification.
Novel synthesis and characterization of magnesium-doped CoFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles –SiO 2 –3-aminopropylethoxysilane– gallic acid magnetic nanocomposite for effective removal of cationic dyes

Abstract:Magnesium-doped CoFe2O4 nanoparticles (MgCF)@SiO 2 -NH-COOH were prepared through a step-wise procedure for the removal of two cationic dyes from real wastewater. MgCF was successfully synthesized through the co-precipitation technique. Subsequently, these nanoparticles were coated within a silica (SiO2) shell and functionalized with amino groups utilizing 3-Aminopropylethoxysilane (APTES). To assess its adsorption capabilities, the nanocomposite underwent further modification with Gallic acid (GA). MgCF@SiO 2 -NH-COOH has a well-developed pore structure with a BET surface area of 31.655m 2 /g, which also has a crystalline structure. Adsorption tests revealed the excellent performance of MgCF@SiO 2 -NH-COOH in removing Methylene Blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB) dyes. Kinetic studies demonstrated that the adsorption of MB and RhB followed the Boyd kinetic model. The Langmuir isotherm model provided the best fit for the experimental data, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 103 mg/g and 89 mg/g for MB and RhB, respectively. Moreover, recycling tests established the high stability and reusability of MgCF-SiO 2 -APTES-GA nanocomposites, with consistent adsorption performance over at least five cycles. At the first stage, the adsorption was 98.6 % for MB and 95.3 % for RhB, and after five regenerations, the adsorption was 82.5 % for MB and 79.6 % for RhB. This research offers a cost-effective compound that addresses pressing environmental concerns related to the removal of organic dyes from wastewater.

Abstract:Industrial wastewater containing different organic, inorganic, and biological components has become a major issue as far as the sustainable growth of society is concerned. The presence of organic dyes in the effluents causes several health issues for both human and aquatic life. Herein pristine inorganic nanocomposite consisting of g-C3N4 and MoS2 (1:1 wt%) have been synthesized by a facile calcination method for adsorptive removal of selective rhodamine B (RhB) in aqueous solutions. Different characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, EDX, FTIR, XRD, BET, and Zeta potential have been studied to know the desired properties of the composite materials. The experiments were conducted by varying the dye concentration, adsorbent dosage, and pH to investigate the optimum removal performance of RhB by the prepared composite material. The composite nanomaterial showed fast adsorption, achieving nearly 92.0% removal in the first 15 min which was much higher than individual bare nanomaterials. BET surface area of 41.59 m2/g, structural changes as shown in SEM and zeta potential (-19.03 mV) also support the probable causes for this fast removal. The highest adsorptive removal percentage of RhB was observed to be 97.1% in 90 min at a pH of 7 with 20 ppm initial RhB concentration, and 1.0 g/L adsorbent dosage for the engineered nanocomposite material. The synthesized composite displayed satisfactory reusability performance, achieving nearly 70% removal of contaminant after four cycles. The isotherm, kinetic, and thermodynamic studies were also performed to understand the adsorptive performance characteristics of the nanocomposite materials. The system satisfied the Langmuir isotherm (R2 = 0.9839) and second-order kinetic model (R2 = 0.9999) which may corroborate the chemisorption behavior with monolayer formation of RhB on the material. In addition, the thermodynamic study observed the endothermic nature and spontaneous reaction process of the system.

Abstract:Herein, antimony-doped cerium vanadate (Sb-CeVO4) has been reported as photocatalyst and active solid-phase adsorbent for the removal of crystal violet (CV) dye from aqueous medium. The synthesized materials were characterized by UV–Vis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM–EDX) techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) depicted the formation of crystalline CeVO4 and Sb-CeVO4 having tetragonal phase. The SEM analysis showed the particle sizes of materials in a range 25–45 nm. The computed band gap energy for 10%-Sb-CeVO4 (3.68 eV) was the lowest among all, indicating its more appropriateness for photocatalytic removal of crystal violet dye (82.6%) in 35 min only. In order to determine the adsorption of dye, various parameters such as contact time, dose of adsorbent, temperature, dye concentration, shaking speed/ RPM, and pH were optimized. The adsorption values were 50, 54.6, 114.9, 123.5, 153.8, and 285.7 mg/g by using undoped-CeVO4, 1%-Sb-CeVO4, 3%-Sb-CeVO4, 5%-Sb-CeVO4, 7%-Sb-CeVO4, and 10%-Sb-CeVO4, respectively, at optimal conditions (temperature = 30 °C, shaker speed = 100 RPM, time = 35 min, dye concentration = 45 ppm, pH = 6–7, adsorbent dose = 0.01 g). Langmuir model showed adsorption capacity (285.7 mg/g) at optimal conditions for 10%-Sb-CeVO4, whereas kinetic modeling supported the pseudo-second-order model for dye sorption. The thermodynamic parameters, i.e., Δ$$\Delta$$G°, Δ$$\Delta$$H°, and Δ$$\Delta$$S°, demonstrated that sorption was favorable, spontaneous, and exothermic. Hence, it can be safely concluded that Sb-doped CeVO4 could be highly effective for the photocatalytic and sorptive removal of dyes from wastewater.

Abstract:Surface absorption is one of the common methods of removing colored and pharmaceutical pollutants from the wastewater industry. For this purpose, nanocomposites based on natural absorbents, magnetic materials and polymers are used. The advantage of using these three compounds for surface absorption, antibacterial activity and removing toxic pollutants (drug and dye) from the water and sewage industry has been investigated. In this study, a novel synthesized pearlite/ferrite/guar gum (PFG) hydrogel was evaluated. Theoretical studies using molecular dynamics simulation through the Forcite module in Material Studio 2017 showed crystal violet (CV) and naproxen (NAP) dye drug adsorption relative to other dyes and drugs. One of the best ways to remove pollutants is adsorption. With the absorption method, harmful contaminants such as CV and NAP can be removed from the water and wastewater cycle. Morphology and functional groups of natural compounds and synthesized materials were determined using FT‐IR, XRD, TGA, VSM, EDX, BET and FE‐SEM analysis. The potential of the hydrogel to effectively remove CV and NAP from a saturated solution was studied experimentally based on the efficiency of adsorbent dose, pH and temperature. The composition follows the PSO kinetically and the Langmuir model in terms of the isotherm. The maximum absorption capacity of CV (244.40 mg/g) and NAP (180.15 mg/g) in hydrogel was investigated. According to the antibacterial activity test, the synthesized hydrogel had no antibacterial properties.

Abstract:Distal pancreatectomy is the therapeutic option of choice for patients with a benign or malignant lesion located in the body and/or tail of the pancreas when surgical intervention is indicated. With recent advances in and wide spread use of imaging studies, lesions of the pancreas are being diagnosed more commonly and it is likely that this will translate into an increased number of patients undergoing surgical resection. The laparoscopic approach to pancreatic resections has not been adopted as rapidly as it has for most other general surgical procedures. This is despite the fact that the current literature appears to validate laparoscopy as an acceptable and safe approach for distal pancreatectomy in patients with benign lesions, and has demonstrated the known benefits inherent to the laparoscopic technique. These benefits include lower intraoperative blood loss, less pain and analgesic requirements, earlier return of bowel function, and shorter recovery and hospital stay. Yet controversy still exists for the role of laparoscopy in the resection of malignant lesions. Recent reports however, have shown that laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy can safely be performed in known malignancies and, most importantly, after a laparoscopic oncological resection, the oncological benchmarks that have been related to survival, (such as negative surgical margins and number of peripancreatic lymph nodes resected), can also be accomplished. We sought to review the current literature on distal pancreatectomy, specifically the indications, laparoscopic approaches, splenectomy and spleen-preserving techniques, intraoperative and short-term outcomes, morbidity, mortality and oncological outcomes.
