Abstract:Introduction: Soldiers constitute a professional group carrying out their duties in variable, often challenging environmental conditions, including harmful and burdensome ones. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on a nationwide sample of 1331 soldiers. The research tool was an anonymous questionnaire comprising 48 questions. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the characteristics of the studied group. The chi-square test was employed to examine the relationship between variables. A 95% confidence interval was adopted, with a significance level of p = 0.05. Results: One in four soldiers work with low and one in five with moderate exposure to harmful chemical factors. Almost 10% of respondents lack knowledge about the types of chemical factors present during their service. One in five soldiers work with low and one in eight with moderate exposure to ionizing radiation. Approximately 5% of survey participants lack knowledge about the types of physical factors. One in three soldiers are unaware of the carcinogenic and mutagenic effects of the aforementioned factors. Conclusions: The systematic enhancement of knowledge and awareness among army members will help minimize the consequences of exposure to harmful conditions.

Abstract:Abstract Introduction Among all types of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, the name of the Territorial Defense Force reflects its character and purpose to the greatest extent. The goals and tasks set for it depend on the specific defense needs of the state. In the light of current nutritional knowledge, rational nutrition is one of the basic conditions for the proper functioning of the human body and maintaining its good health. Particularly important is the state of nutrition in the case of soldiers performing combat tasks. The aim of the study was to assess the level of nutritional knowledge of soldiers in the context of the implementation of training tasks. Material and methods The nutritional knowledge of soldiers was verified on the basis of an open survey, with the use of a proprietary questionnaire containing 20 closed-ended questions. The study covered 106 soldiers of the Territorial Defense Force, undergoing military training. The questions included in the questionnaire concerned the principles of rational nutrition and the sources of some of the nutrients in a daily diet. In addition, the Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated for each respondent based on the height and body weight values. The results of the survey were prepared using Excel and Statistica software. Results and discussion The applied BMI classification showed this may be evidenced by over 40% of the respondents being overweight, while 17% demonstrated first degree obesity, and 1% — second degree obesity. The results of the survey indicated the areas in which the nutritional knowledge of the examined group of soldiers was insufficient. One of the reasons for this is the source of information on rational nutrition. Content provided by friends or obtained from the Internet may mislead soldiers, and incorrect application of nutrition guidelines may cause them to eat unbalanced food rations, which is likely to reduce a soldier's physical capacity, concentration, responsiveness, and the possibility of intense physical activity during the performance of official tasks. Taking into account the BMI results and the low level of nutritional knowledge, it can be concluded that the nutrition safety of the Territorial Defense Force soldiers is at risk, which may stimulate the emergence and development of a number of diet-related civilization diseases. It is purposeful to conduct systematic training of Territorial Defense Force soldiers in the field of rational nutrition. This will help to improve their nutritional knowledge and maintain good health.

Abstract:Vaccination is a very common topic, but it is rarely raised or discussed with respect to military members. Soldiers are one of the main professional groups to be immunized on a regular basis. The military actively participates in research on new vaccine preparations. This paper presents data from 2018-2021 on vaccination among Polish soldiers. The material obtained from the Central Register of Vaccination for Professional Soldiers was analyzed using descriptive statistical methods. The number of injections performed in a given period depends on the location of the ongoing missions and the vaccination schedule specific to a given Polish Military Contingent. In Poland, soldiers undergo preventive vaccinations in accordance with the scheme developed by the Armed Forces Operational Command, taking into account the specific nature of the service, epidemiological risks and the calendar of current preventive vaccinations. Soldiers serving abroad are immunized against typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, measles, tick-borne encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis, polio, diphtheria, meningococcal disease, chickenpox, cholera and yellow fever. Regular vaccinations for soldiers are necessary to minimize the spread of infectious diseases, and they have a beneficial effect upon the effectiveness of military operations.
Workplace Violence and Its Aftermath among Health Workers in Zhejiang Province: a Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:BackgroundIn China, the reported incidence of workplace violence in hospitals has been increasing. Most research has focused on secondary and tertiary care facilities. We aimed to determine the incidence of workplace violence and its aftermath in county and township hospitals and community health centres in Zhejiang Province.MethodsA cross-sectional survey using stratified cluster sampling was carried out at 18 hospitals (eight county hospitals and ten township hospitals or community health centres) in Zhejiang Province from July 27, 2016 to Jan 20, 2017. Questionnaires were distributed to all health workers (including physicians, nurses, medical technicians, and administrative staff) present on the day of the survey. Ethical approval was obtained from Zhejiang University School of Public Health.Findings2018 out of 2303 participants completed questionnaires from 596 men and 1417 women. In the past year, 140 (7%) respondents had experienced physical attacks and 384 (19%) physical threats. Men experienced around twice as many physical attacks (59 [10%] vs 80 [6%] of women; p=0·001), and significantly more threats than females (132 [22%] vs 252 [18%]; p=0·025). Doctors were most likely to be victims of physical attacks, and the commonest location was the emergency department. Most respondents did not report the physical attack (117 [85%] respondents), mainly because they regarded it as pointless (70 [52%] respondents) or didn't know who to report to (32 [24%] respondents). Of all those attacked or threatened, 312 (61%) wanted to quit direct patient care. In terms of impact, 413 [80%] victims said they had repeated, disturbing memories of the attack, 498 [97%] said they had become highly vigilant, and 386 [75%] were fearful dealing with difficult cases. Only four [3%] were satisfied with the way the incident was handled.InterpretationWorkplace violence is common at lower-level health facilities. The lack of a formal response to workplace violence implies an institutional tolerance which is of great concern. Abstract:Introduction: Antibiotic resistance poses a significant threat to public health, that can lead to reduced effectiveness of many therapies, increased morbidity, longer hospitalization times, increased deaths, and additional costs for health care systems. Unreasonable use of antibiotics may result from a lack of adequate knowledge about antibiotic therapy and a lack of knowledge of the risks associated with antibiotic resistance, both among medical personnel and patients. Aim. The primary objective of the study was to verify the opinion of medical personnel on the risks associated with antibiotic resistance. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in 2023 among 605 Polish sanitary workers. An anonymous survey designed specifically for the purpose of the study was used. The survey was made available on the Internet through the Trade Unions of Pharmacy Workers and directly to hospitals with the support of local authorities. Results: The majority of respondents were women (77.36%). The largest group consisted of individuals over 40 years of age (55.04%). More than half of the respondents were nurses (56.20%), and every fourth of the respondents was a physician (23.64%). Most respondents consider antibiotic resistance to be a very serious (24.13%) or extremely serious (30.75%) problem. The problem of antibiotic resistance on a global scale was mentioned, especially in the opinions of physicians and nurses (p < 0.01), people working in the profession for over a year (p < 0.01), and people with a specialization or undergoing specialist training (p = 0.00). Similarly, these groups most often indicated that antibiotic resistance poses a problem in their workplace. The main problems of antibiotic resistance were the use of antibiotics in farm animals (36.69%), the pressure on patients to take antibiotics (38.84%), and the prophylactic use of antibiotics (43.15%). Conclusions: Medical personnel consider antibiotic resistance a somewhat serious problem, although not all agree in this regard. The risk of antibiotic resistance is much more seriously assessed by physicians and nurses, as well as by people with specializations or undergoing specialization training. Knowledge about antibiotic resistance should be further spread among all groups of medical personnel.

Workplace Violence and Its Aftermath in China's Health Sector: Implications from a Cross-Sectional Survey Across Three Tiers of the Health System

Abstract:Objectives To determine the prevalence of physical violence and threats against health workers and the aftermath in tertiary, secondary and primary care facilities in China. Design A cross-sectional questionnaire study. Setting 5 tertiary hospitals, 8 secondary hospitals and 32 primary care facilities located in both urban and rural areas of Zhejiang Province, China, were chosen as the study sites. Participants A total of 4862 health workers who have contact with patients completed a survey from July 2016 to July 2017. Outcome measures The prevalence of physical violence, threats and Yi Nao, specific forms of physical violence and their aftermath were measured by a self-designed and verified questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine the association between perceived organisational encouragement of reporting workplace violence (WPV) and physical violence, threats and Yi Nao after controlling for age, sex, level of facility, professional ranking and type of health worker. Results Among all respondents, 224 (4.6%) were physically attacked and 848 (17.4%) experienced threats in the past year. Respondents in secondary hospitals were more likely to experience physical violence (AOR=3.29, 95%CI 2.21 to 4.89), threats (AOR=1.61, 95%CI 1.32 to 1.98) and Yi Nao (AOR=2.47, 95%CI 2.10 to 2.91), compared with primary care providers. Lack of organisational policies to report WPV was associated with higher likelihood of physical violence (AOR=3.64, 95%CI 2.57 to 5.18) and threats (AOR=2.21, 95%CI 1.76 to 2.78). Among physical violence cases, only 29.1% reported the attack to police mainly because most felt it useless to do so (58.8%). Only 25.7% were investigated and 72.4% of attackers received no punishment. Of all those attacked or threatened, 59.4% wanted to quit current post and 76.0% were fearful of dealing with urgent or severe cases. Conclusions Proper management of the aftermath of violence against health workers is inadequate. Formal guidelines for reporting and managing WPV are urgently needed.

Abstract:Introduction: Restrictions against the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in a decrease in other contagious diseases. However, their prevention and treatment are still a topical issue. Purpose: To present the public awareness on infectious diseases taking into account the knowledge of people with medical education. Material and method: The study was conducted by means of the author's questionnaire. 158 questionnaires were collected and analysed. Results: Men and women of different age took part in the survey. Half of the respondents had medical education. The analysis showed that as many as 89.2% of the respondents were aware of the pathogenic factor of influenza, which is the virus. Only a small percentage of respondents had information regarding the number of influenza infections in Poland (10.8%) and worldwide (21.5%). Medics were aware of this in 10.0% and 28.8% respectively. Influenza was admitted by 81.0% of the respondents, while for other infectious disease (except COVID-19) the result was 75.3%. The respondents indicated as the most common route of transmission of infectious diseases the droplet route (66.5%), while fever was the typical symptom (81.0%). Washing hands turned out to be the most important prophylactic behaviour of respondents (50.6%) and especially of students (93.7%). Conclusions: Awareness of infectious diseases among Poles is not at the highest level. Those with medical education have slightly higher knowledge, but it is necessary to introduce educational programmes and update knowledge.
Serosurvey of bacterial and viral respiratory pathogens among deployed U.S. service members

Abstract:Background: Respiratory illnesses can cause substantial morbidity during military deployments. Bordetella pertussis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are hypothesized causes. Purpose: To determine pathogen-specific seroprevalence prior to and after deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 1000 service members deployed between June 30, 2004, and June 30, 2007, was conducted from 2008 through 2009. Pre- and post-deployment sera were tested for the presence of antibody to each pathogen. Results: Pre-deployment IgG seropositivity was high for adenovirus, RSV, and parainfluenza (98.7%, 97.8%, and 81.6%, respectively), whereas seropositivity for B. pertussis, M. pneumoniae, and C. pneumoniae was 14.2%, 21.9%, and 65.1%, respectively. As defined by seroconversion in 1000 subjects, the following were identified: 43 new parainfluenza infections (24% of susceptibles); 37 new pertussis infections (4% of susceptibles); 33 new C. pneumoniae infections (10% of susceptibles); and 29 new M. pneumoniae infections (4% of susceptibles). B. pertussis seroconversion was two to four times higher than reports for the general U.S. population. Overall, 14.2% of the service members seroconverted to at least one of these six pathogens; this increased to 30.1% seroconversion when influenza was included. However, serologic testing was not clearly associated with clinical illness in this report. Conclusions: Serologic evidence for respiratory infections was common among the 2004-2007 OEF-deployed military, sometimes at a higher rate than the general U.S. population. Awareness of this risk and implementation of preventive measures should be emphasized by leadership prior to and during deployment.
[Evaluate the influence of psychosocial factors on sexuality soldiers participating in the Polish Military Contingent in Afghanistan]

Abstract:Sexual health problems of stabilization missions soldiers, contrary to other specific populations, have not been fully studied. However, effects of being in a war zone have been thoroughly investigated. Modern warfare soldier experiences stress related not only to life and health threat but also to separation from loved ones. Anxiety and depression as adaptive disorders, rarer posttraumatic disorder were diagnosed in participants of stabilization missions. These disorders as well as not diagnosed dysfunctions may have impact on sexual health. The aim of study: To assess the selected psychosocial factors on sexuality of veterans of Polish Military Contingent (PMC) in Afghanistan. Material and methods: The study was carried out on 68 soldiers, participants of stabilization mission in Afghanistan. The following diagnostic tools were used: sexual history related to military service specificity was taken, IIEF questionnaire, Mell-Krat Scale for Men, scale of sexual pathology in men, questionnaire: 'Self-esteem on relationship with a partner'. Results: According to the investigated individuals, taking part in a military mission did not increase present or trigger new problems in sex life. The examined soldiers were satisfied with their sexual activity, assessed themselves as good lovers and claimed to be perceived so by their partners. Conclusions: The results of the study show that taking part in Polish Military Contingent seems to have had no negative effect on veterans sex life. Majority of the investigated veterans assessed well the relationship with a wife/partner as well as satisfaction from sexual activity and were aware of being well assessed by a wife/partner with reference to sexual activity.
What do you know about sexually transmitted infections? Survey concerning knowledge and risky behaviors among students of Białystok universities

Abstract:Introduction: Sexually-transmitted infections (STIs) are serious public health problem, being acquired by more than 1 million people every day worldwide. Objective: Assess the knowledge, attitudes, risky behaviors and preventive practices related to STIs among medical and non-medical faculties students from Bialystok. Materials and methods: In 2018 an original anonymous survey was carried among 168 subjects from medical and 142 from non-medical universities. They filled 37 questions: general and specific regarding STI. Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-Square test, statistically significant difference was at p=0.05. Results: In the group 80,6% were females and 19,4% males, with a mean age of 21,9 years. Over 73% were sexually active and almost half of them admitted risky sexual behavior in the past. Almost 16% have ever done an examination for STIs. HIV remains the best known STIs, while hepatitis B was known mainly among medical students. Three fourth students knew that STIs could be asymptomatic. Over half of the students knew that vaccinations against STIs were available and 88,6% of them heard about the HPV vaccine. There was statistically significant difference between the groups regarding the knowledge of diseases transferred sexually, causative agents, history of STI examination, vaccines against STIs. Conclusions: Almost all participants identified HIV as STIs. Unfortunately, knowledge about other STIs is still at lower level. Both groups have indicated the Internet as a source of knowledge about STIs and the need to acquire additional education about these diseases. To conclude, non-medical students have less awareness about STIs.

Abstract:Abstract Background Today, the problem of pulmonary pathology is very relevant in Ukraine, as it is not always possible to provide timely and high-quality medical care owing to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Objectives To analyse the types of the main aetiological factors of lung pathology and their susceptibility to different groups of antimicrobial agents used at different stages of treatment of these patients. Materials and methods Microbiological studies of 36 case histories of severe patients who were inpatients in the pulmonology department of the Military Medical Centre were analysed. Results The main diseases that caused lung pathology were community-acquired pneumonia (44%), septic pneumonia (29%) and nosocomial pneumonia (27%). When studying the extent of lung involvement, the most common was involvement of four and five lobes of the lungs, which accounted for 61% of all cases, and the most common complication was exudative pleurisy (57%). In the course of studying the microbiological characteristics of pathogens, a monoculture was isolated in 80% of cases, in 12% of cases there was a combination of Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae, and in 8% of cases S. aureus, K. pneumoniae and Enterobacter were identified. S. aureus and K. pneumoniae were most often isolated from sputum and pleural fluid. Susceptibility testing showed that in the vast majority of cases S. aureus was susceptible to meropenem, linezolid, cefepime, cefoperazone, ciprofloxacin and amikacin. K. pneumoniae was susceptible to cefepime and ciprofloxacin in only 2% of cases, while it was resistant to other antibiotic groups. Pathogens isolated from blood were mostly S. aureus and Staphylococcus haemolyticus, which were susceptible to meropenem and vancomycin, while resistance to ceftazidime, moxifloxacin, cefazolin and amikacin was noted. Conclusions The isolated pathogens are resistant to the main groups of antimicrobial drugs recommended for use according to the AWaRe antibiotic classification in the initial stages of empirical antimicrobial therapy. This is of concern because there is an active use of reserve drugs, which in turn also contributes to the progression of resistance to such drugs. In addition, active migration of people between countries may lead to the spread of this trend beyond Ukraine.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: It is crucial that emergency health workers respond to people exposed to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear agents appropriately and in a timely manner. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to find out how much Turkish emergency health workers know about chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards, as well as identify what possible factors contribute to their level of knowledge. METHOD: The data were collected from 321 participants using a personal information form as well as a questionnaire about chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards prepared in accordance with the literature. RESULTS: The results revealed that the place of residence and status of choosing the profession willingly showed no difference in terms of being trained on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards (p > 0.05). Likewise, the participants under the age of 25 years, who were single and had a tenure of less than 10 years highly believed that they did ‘not have a sufficient grasp of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards’. Women also highly believed that they did ‘not have a solid grasp of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards.’ CONCLUSIONS: Healthcare professionals who work in high-risk zones should be given compulsory training about chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear hazards so that they become more aware of how to best deal with such situations.

Abstract:Abstract Objective Health care workers are critical first responders. Understanding which factors motivate their willingness to work (WTW) during infectious disease outbreaks may guide improvements in preparedness. The perspective of health care students, the future workforce, remains largely unexplored. This study compared factors influencing WTW among medical, nursing, and pharmacy students. Methods A printed survey was administered to 631 medical, nursing, and pharmacy students. The questionnaire elicited information regarding prior disaster training, disease-related knowledge, and WTW in the setting of infectious diseases with contact or respiratory transmission. Results Analyses of the 579 respondents (92% response rate) demonstrated that students were less fearful for their health and more willing to work during outbreaks with contact transmission than during those with respiratory transmission. Medical students were the most fearful for their health, but they demonstrated the greatest WTW, followed by nursing students, and then pharmacy students. Medical students were also the most knowledgeable about infectious diseases. Prior disaster training was associated with greater WTW. Conclusions Extent of disease-related knowledge and prior disaster training appear to influence WTW. Our findings, taken in the context of a remarkable underemphasis on disaster preparedness in health care curricula, call for a broader incorporation of disaster training to improve the WTW of health care students, and, ultimately, health care workers. Abstract:Aim: Infection with biological factors is a significant issue which occurs during the undertaking of professional tasks in the daily work of paramedics in Emergency Response Teams. Due to the volatile conditions of the work environment, paramedics as an occupational group are at a higher risk of exposure to biological factors (e.g., hepatotropic viruses (HBV, HCV); human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria; influenza virus; or contempo-rarily the SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 coronaviruses). The possibility of infection grows in situations where work safety and hygiene regulations are not followed. The aim of the following work is the evaluation of the compli¬ance with hygienic standards and the knowledge regarding the prophylaxis of infection among paramedics. Material and methods: The study was carried out between May and September of 2019, with the use of diagnostic survey methodology on 238 (223 male, 15 female) paramedics in mobile Emergency Response Teams from the Maso¬vian voivodship. The mean age was 39.03±9.27 years for males, and 31.93±7.76 years for females. Results: 59.66% of the participants (n = 142) report always following the recommended hygiene procedures. 50.85% (n = 121) of the participants indicated hands playing a significant role in the spread of infection. Co-workers followed hygiene procedures at a satisfactory level for 53.78% (n =128) of the participants. Conclusions: There is a wide range of factors which limit respecting hygiene procedures, the most important of which being sudden and unforeseeable situations. Issues of the broadly understood hand hygiene practice should be a con¬stant element of prophylaxis in ERTs.

Abstract:The relationship between the immunoglobulin kappa light chain allotypes and autoantibodies was studied in a series of seven human monoclonal kappa‐bearing IgM antibodies with Rheumatoid Factor (RF) activity, two IgM anti‐low density lipoprotein (LDL) antibodies, and one IgM anti‐intermediate filament (IF) antibody. Residues at amino acid positions 153 and 191 related to the Km allotypes in human kappa chains were determined by an HPLC tryptic fingerprint and corroborated by amino acid sequence analysis. All the autoantibodies shared similar variable regions derived from the V gene(s). The seven RF and the anti IF were associated with the Km(3) constant region allotype whereas the two antiLDL were associated with the Km(1,2) allotype. Thus, monoclonal autoantibodies showed the same Km allotypic distribution as the normal population. However, although the number of samples is small, it seems likely that a preferential association may exist between particular V, genes and Km alleles in the generation of autoantibodies with different specificities.

Abstract:(1) Background: Military personnel worldwide exhibit high rates of obesity. Obesity, and especially visceral obesity, contribute to various health issues, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). While BMI is commonly used to diagnose obesity, it has limitations and does not consider factors like fat distribution or muscle mass. This study aims to assess the relationship between BMI, percent body fat, waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and cardiovascular risk factors in Polish military flying personnel. Methods: This study involved 200 men from the Polish Air Force aged 38.8 ± 8.5 years. Anthropometric tests, body composition tests, and tests of biochemical markers of CVD were conducted. (2) Results: The prevalence of overweight and obesity varied based on the evaluation criterion; they were present in 63.5% of soldiers by BMI and in 52.5% by percent body fat; abdominal obesity was present in almost half (47%) of the surveyed soldiers according to WC and in 62.5% according to WHtR. All markers of obesity correlated positively with various biochemical markers of CVD, and 8.5% of subjects met the criteria for metabolic syndrome. (3) Conclusions: The prevalence of obesity in Polish military flying personnel, regardless of the evaluation criterion, is associated with significant metabolic complications in the form of lipid disorders and insulin resistance.

Abstract:A vertical conduit in the basisphenoid extending from the floor of the sella to the undersurface of this bone was observed in two children. There was no associated nasopharyngeal mass. A review of the literature on this defect and related subjects suggests a close relation between this lesion and transsphenoidal meningoencephalocele.
Fear, familiarity, and the perception of risk: a quantitative analysis of disaster-specific concerns of paramedics

Abstract:Introduction: Paramedics play an integral role in the response to and management of disasters and mass casualty events. Providing a core component of the front line response to disasters, paramedics potentially expose themselves to a variety of health and safety risks, including physical injury, death, communicable disease, and psychological effects. The health and safety risks to emergency service personnel were highlighted by the deaths of firefighters, paramedics, and police during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and the infection, illness, and deaths of paramedics and emergency health care staff during the severe acute respiratory syndrome outbreak in 2003. Objective: Given that a willing and able prehospital workforce is a vital component of any successful response to a disaster situation, the present study explored paramedics' perception of risk and willingness to work, with a specific focus on identifying which type of disasters that paramedics associate with greater levels of fear, familiarity, and risk. Methods: A total of 175 paramedics completed a survey ranking 40 disaster scenarios for levels of fear and familiarity. Results: The results indicate that paramedics ranked nuclear and radiological events and outbreaks of new and highly infectious disasters highest for fear and unfamiliarity. This has implications for preparedness, education, and training.
ASSESSMENT OF THE FREQUENCY OF FOOD PRODUCTS CONSUMPTION AND DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS BY MILITARY AVIATION PERSONNEL DEPENDING ON THEIR NUTRITIONAL KNOWLEDGE

Abstract:Introduction: Nutritional behaviour is the result of many factors, one of which is nutritional knowledge. A higher level of nutritional knowledge promotes proper nutrition, which is the main factor influencing health, nutritional status and psychophysical efficiency. The aim of the study was to determine the customary frequency of consumption of selected food products and dietary supplements by Air Force soldiers depending on their level of nutritional knowledge. Methods: The study was carried out among 540 Air Force soldiers and 498 persons with complete data (32 women, 466 men; mean age 36.3±8.5 years) were included in the analysis. The FFQ food consumption frequency questionnaire was used to assess the frequency of food consumption. Nutrition knowledge was assessed on the basis of 32 statements on food and nutrition. Results: The level of nutritional knowledge depended significantly on the education and age of the respondents. In the group of the surveyed soldiers, military pilots showed the highest level of nutritional knowledge, while the lowest level was shown by engineering and aviation services. The frequency of consumption of milk and natural dairy drinks, curds, eggs, wholemeal bread, coarse groats, fruits, vegetables, oils, nuts, seeds, poultry meat, rabbit meat, honey, wine and drinks increased significantly with the increase in the level of nutritional knowledge, while the frequency of consumption of margarines in cubes, margarines in cups, animal fats and cured meats decreased. Dietary supplements such as vitamin, mineral and vitamin-mineral preparations were significantly more frequently consumed by soldiers with a higher level of nutritional knowledge. Conclusions: 1. On the basis of the assessment of the frequency of consumption of products, a number of abnormalities were found among the majority of the surveyed soldiers of military aviation personnel. 2. The results obtained confirm that a higher level of nutritional knowledge promotes healthy eating habits among the Air Force soldiers. Food education is essential, especially among soldiers in the older age group and ground flying personnel
