Abstract:Case: A rarely reported complication with sacroiliac joint fusion (SJF) is an iatrogenic injury to the superior gluteal artery (SGA). This case series includes 3 cases which had a suspected injury to the SGA. Case 1 describes how hemostasis achieved with exploration of the wound followed by embolization by interventional radiology (IR). In Case 2, electrocautery, hemostatic agents, and pressure were used with success. Case 3 highlights the use of IR as the initial method for controlling bleeding. Conclusion: This report describes a rare complication during SJF and provides an algorithm to help guide surgeons in decision making.
