Abstract:Rationale: A solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is an uncommon soft tissue tumor that was first discovered in the pleura. Although SFTs have been documented in other extra-pleural sites, an SFT in the thyroid gland is highly unusual. An SFT of the thyroid gland can be difficult to diagnose, and there is little information about their Underlying biological behavior. Patient concerns: We present a case of a 63-year-old man with a progressively growing left-neck mass detected 1 month ago, which was pathologically confirmed to be a benign SFT of the thyroid gland. Diagnosis: Postoperative pathological examination of the tumor revealed an SFT. Immunopathological examination was consistent with the diagnosis of an SFT. Interventions: The patient underwent surgical resection of the SFT. Outcomes: The patient was recurrence-free during 1.5 years of follow-up. Lessons: Surgical excision is beneficial in SFTs that show no histological signs of malignancy, such as pleomorphism, enhanced mitotic activity, necrosis, bleeding, or capsular invasion. However, because the biologic activity remains unknown, meticulous long-term monitoring is required.

Abstract:We describe a general chaotic communication system with nonlinear transform-pairs and saw-tooth functions. Some chaotic communication systems can be deduced from this general model. It provides an approach for encryption and decryption by setting nonlinear transform-pairs as the keys in the sender and the receiver. Simulation results of several such chaotic communication systems with direct and parameter modulations are presented. Both modulation methods can be used to transmit signals and noise disturbed Gaussian channel. The parameter modulation method provides the feasibility to transmit multiple signals simultaneously over a single channel; with a 40 dB Gaussian noise in which the extended Kalman filter (EKF) is used.

Abstract:The aim of the present study was to summarize the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of solitary fibrous tumor (SFT). In total, 47 cases of SFTs diagnosed by postoperative pathology between January 2002 and September 2014 were retrospectively reviewed, and the general information, clinical manifestations, imaging techniques, treatment, pathology and follow-up findings were analyzed. Of the 47 patients, clinical characteristics were collected in 37 cases (18 men and 19 women; mean age, 44.1 years; age range, 13-72 years). The maximum diameters of the tumors were 1.5-25 cm, with a mean diameter of 8.8 cm. The symptoms were various and non-specific. Imaging examinations following iodinated contrast administration showed the SFTs to be well-defined, cystic or solid mass and enhanced. On color Doppler ultrasound, SFTs were described as hypoechoic, clear, irregular masses. All patients underwent surgical resection, and SFT was diagnosed by postoperative pathological and immunohistochemical examination. Of the 47 patients, 25 received complete follow-up of 5-130 months, with a median follow-up period of 35.2 months, that included a color Doppler ultrasound or computed tomography (CT) scan every 6-12 months. At the end of the follow-up period all patients were alive and healthy, with the exception of one patient, who presented with recurrence 15 months after surgery. The findings of the present study showed SFT to be a rare systemic disease with no particular clinical manifestations. In the cases reviewed in the present study, CT, magnetic resonance imaging scans and color Doppler ultrasound were important for the diagnosis of SFT, while the definitive diagnosis relied on pathological and immunohistochemical examinations. Surgery, the primary treatment for SFT, was performed, and, following complete removal of the tumor, the prognosis was favorable.

Abstract:Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare, benign neoplasm originating from mesenchymal cells. Diagnosis is typically established through histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation. Immunohistochemical analysis typically reveals positivity for CD-34, CD99, and Bcl-2, and negativity for S100 and smooth muscle actin. In this clinical case, a 59-year-old male patient, who is a smoker, presented with a swelling in the right buccal mucosa without any accompanying pain. An incisional biopsy was performed, and the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings confirmed the presence of SFT, with a Ki-67 index of 1%.

Abstract:Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare fibroblastic tumor with spindle cell morphology, which is characterized by a prominent branching vasculature and a NAB2‐STAT6 gene rearrangement. SFT may occur in any anatomical site and may involve salivary glands, including the parotid gland. We present a young female with a primary parotid SFT diagnosed as "neoplasm—Salivary gland neoplasm of uncertain malignant potential (SUMP)" per the Milan system for reporting salivary gland cytopathology by fine‐needle aspiration (FNA) with surgical pathology follow‐up. Cytomorphology of SFT is diverse and overlaps with more common entities causing a diagnostic challenge. Non‐diagnostic FNA results are not uncommon. Thankfully, the majority of SFTs involving the salivary gland can be identified as "neoplasm" on FNA. The Neoplasm‐SUMP subcategory is considered for the majority of cases, which would warrant a diagnostic excision with clear surgical margins, which is also curative in most cases. The Neoplasm‐SUMP also perfectly encompasses the neoplastic behavior of SFT, which runs on a scale from indolent to malignant.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a remarkably uncommon mesenchymal tumor. STAT6 level and a combination of clinical, pathological, and molecular features are required to arrive at a proper diagnosis. CASE SUMMARY In this report, we present an intriguing case involving a 43-year-old woman who initially exhibited symptoms of a bleeding retroperitoneal tumor, initially resembling a gastrointestinal stromal tumor, but later confirmed as an SFT. However, a year later, what was initially believed to be a recurrence of her SFT was instead identified as a desmoid tumor. CONCLUSION Distinguishing SFT from other tumors was pivotal. Correcting misdiagnoses of tumor type initially and of recurrence later was necessary for appropriate treatment of the correct desmoid type.

Abstract:Ear, Nose &Throat Journal, Ahead of Print. Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are a rare type of soft tissue tumor first identified as arising from pleura and usually arising in the thoracic cavity. The incidence of SFTs arising in the head and neck region is much lower, accounting for about 7% of SFT cases. Involvement of the larynx specifically is exceedingly rare and can have inconspicuous presentations, making them challenging to diagnose. This case report represents a patient with a history of urothelial cancer and obstructive sleep apnea who was ultimately found to have a fibrous tumor of the larynx, which was confirmed by histopathology and immunohistochemistry and treated with transoral microsurgical resection. This case report aims to shed light on an infrequently documented location of a solitary laryngeal fibrous tumor and a unique clinical presentation of this rare pathology and its successful surgical management.

Abstract:Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare spindle cell neoplasms of mesenchymal origin that are most commonly found in the pleura, although they have also been documented in extrapleural locations. SFTs affect males and females in equal distribution, and they typically occur between the fourth and seventh decades of life. Since SFTs are usually benign and asymptomatic, the majority of them are discovered incidentally on computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging, unless they grow to a size that causes mass effect symptoms on other organs. Nonetheless, imaging is not sufficient to diagnose an SFT, and therefore, biopsy is recommended for further analysis. Advances in immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics have identified CD34 and NAB2-STAT6, respectively, as the most consistent markers for SFTs. The risk of SFT metastasis can be determined through the use of a four-variable risk-stratification model developed by Demicco et al., which is based upon the risk factors of patient age, tumor size, mitotic count per 10 high-power fields, and the degree of tumor necrosis. The management of SFTs involves a wide surgical resection of the tumor while preserving surrounding organs and structures. Post-operative surveillance involves imaging the primary tumor site for up to five years due to the risk of local recurrence. At this time, neither radiation therapy nor chemotherapy after resection have yet to show benefit, and therefore, they are not currently recommended. This case report discusses the management of a 68-year-old woman who was diagnosed with a malignant extrapleural SFT in her right medial upper thigh.

Abstract:Solitary Fibrous Tumors (SFTs) are uncommon mesenchymal tumors of fibroblastic/myofibroblastic origin that stem from various anatomical sites. Most SFTs are asymptomatic and noticed incidentally by various imaging modalities. Although SFTs were initially identified in the pleura and erroneously considered to originate solely from serosal layers, extrapleural SFTs have been reported more commonly than their pleural counterparts. Imaging features are similar in different anatomical locations and are mainly related to the tumor's size and collagen content, characteristically displaying low signal intensity on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Smaller tumors typically exhibit uniform enhancement, yet necrotic regions may become evident as the tumor size increases, resulting in heterogeneous enhancement. Less than 30% of SFTs demonstrate unfavorable clinical outcomes regardless of their histological features, warranting surgery as the preferred treatment with long-term follow-up. In this article, we have reviewed the clinical manifestations and imaging features of SFTs, discussed their differential diagnosis based on anatomical site, and provided diagnostic pearls.
Inguinal Solitary Fibrous Tumor: A Case Report

Abstract:Introduction: A solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm that may occur in a wide range of sites, more commonly in the pleura. We report a well-documented case of an SFT with malignant histology arising in the inguinal region. Case presentation: A 59-year-old man, with an unremarkable medical history, presented with a slow-growing painless mass in the left side of the inguinal region, which he had ignored for 3 years. On clinical examination, there was an indurated, irreducible, mobile, and painless mass in the left side of the inguinal area. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography results revealed a 15-cm mass made up of soft tissue and with nonspecific radiologic aspect. The tumor was totally excised, and the results of the pathologic examination concluded it was an SFT. Discussion: The aim of our case report is to present a rare extrapleural localization of an SFT. Although its radiologic features are not specific, SFT should be considered in the differential diagnosis of inguinal masses.

Abstract:Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm, originally described in the pleural cavity. It may also occur in extrapleural organs like adrenal gland. We present a case of a fifty two-year old Arab man who has been admitted in urology department for right lumbar pain. A suspect malignant adrenal mass has been detected. He underwent right adrenalectomy and histologically it was SFT. The follow-up three years after surgery is unremarkable. The prognosis of SFT after surgery is unpredictable. A long term follow-up is mandatory to detect local recurrence or distant metastasis.

Abstract:Rationale: Solitary fibrous tumor(SFT) is a rare and distinct clinical entity. There are few descriptions in the literature regarding the PET manifestations of SFTs. Herein,we report a case of multiple malignant SFT with PET/CT imaging findings and PET/Contrast Enhanced CT image findings. Patient concerns: A 30-year-old woman presented with a history of a mass in neck increased gradually over 6 months without jaundice or other symptoms of obstruction.Serum laboratory results and tumor markers (AFP, CEA,CA199,CA724,CA153 and CA125)were normal. The whole body PET/CT scan showed lightly or mildly hypermetabolic and inhomogeneous metabolic which was different from other reports, and it was the first report of 18F-FDG-PET/CT findings of multiple malignant SFTs, which were confirmed by positive immunohistochemical staining for CD2-40, CD99, SMA and negative immunohistochemical staining for S100 and CD34. Diagnoses: She was diagnosed with multiple malignant solitary fibrous tumors which was confirmed by pathological results and 18F-FDG-PET/CT findings. Interventions: The patient didn't receive any treatment because she was not suitable for surgery and refused any other therapy. Outcomes: The patient has been followed up for one year,and she was still alive. Lessons: SFTs should be detected early and treated early.It was of high value in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of SFTs by PET/CT imaging findings, which can not only identify the benign and malignant lesions, but also identify the lesion involved range.
