Abstract:China has one of the largest bodies of college students who face growing academic stress that influences their well-being. Using a daily diary method in a group of Chinese college students (n = 139, mean age = 19.50 years, 27% males) who reported their daily positive and negative emotion consecutively for two weeks, this study investigated the dynamic relations between daily academic stress, leisure activities engagement, and emotion, and further examined the moderation of sex on these links. The results showed that at both between- and within-person level, academic stress was positively associated with negative emotion, and leisure activities engagement was positively associated with positive emotion. The association between leisure activities engagement and positive emotion were stronger among female students than among male students. These results suggest that effectively reducing academic stress and actively engaging in leisure activities are both important in promoting and enhancing daily emotional well-being.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of academic stress on physical activity and sleep, and subsequently their impacts on anxiety and depression. Methods: This cross-sectional study collected data from a convenience sample of 1533 adolescents in an eastern province in China. Surveys were used to collect data on academic stress, anxiety, depression, sleep, physical activity, and demographics. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and path analysis were used to analyze data. Results: The participants reported about 6.77 ± 0.89 h of sleep per day and 1.62 ± 1.79 days of 60 min of physical activity each week. Academic stress was positively correlated with anxiety and depression, which were negatively correlated with physical activity and sleep. The path analysis showed that academic stress directly predicted anxiety (β = 0.54) and depression (β = 0.55), and hours of sleep (β = 0.024) and the number of days of 60 min physical activity (β = 0.014) mediated the relation. Conclusion: The results largely supported our hypotheses and supported the need to lessen academic stress experienced by Chinese adolescents, in effort to enhance mental health indices directly, and by allowing for engagement in health-related behaviors such as physical activity and sleep.

Geographical Disparities of Uncertainty Stress and Life Stress among University Students in China

Abstract:Abstract Background Ecological models have emphasized that mental stress both is an individual phenomenon and an environmental outcome. However, many mental stress studies focused primarily on individual variables. Few studies have examined the geographical disparities in mental stress, with no comparable studies implemented on this issue with regard to different type of mental stress. This study investigates geographical variations in overall stress, uncertainty stress and life stress among university students in China. Methods Respondents comprised 11,954 students from 50 universities and 31 provinces in Mainland China. Respondents completed the extended version of the Global Health Professional Student Survey (GHPSS) on Tobacco Control in China. The survey included additional health, mental stress, and behavioral items along with regional variables which were retrieved from the National Bureau of Statistics database. Both unadjusted and adjusted methods were used in the logistic regression analysis. Results Uncertainty stress and life stress prevalence were 19.6% (95% CI: 15.9%, 23.3%) and 8.6% (95% CI: 7.2%, 10.7%) respectively, while overall stress prevalence was 37.2%, 95% CI: 24.7%, 49.7%). All stresses varied widely across the 31 provinces. Random parameters of 0.3971 for life stress, 0.2593 for uncertainty stress, and 0.1449 for overall stress were statistically significantly at the 0.01 level, in terms of their geographical distribution, high life stress was concentrated in central provinces, high uncertainty stress mainly in both central and western provinces, while provinces displaying higher overall stress tended to display a north-south distribution. Multilevel logistic regression showed province level per capital disposable income of households partly contributed to uncertainty stress (OR: 0.52) and life stress (OR: 0.59). Conclusions This study maps the geographical distribution of uncertainty stress, life stress, and overall stress in China. These findings underscore the importance of environmental factors affecting stress levels among university students.

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationships between the types of stress and students' mental health, to distinguish the effects of stressors on mental health problems, and to explore the important role of uncertainty stress on the development of mental disorders in a nationally representative sample of Chinese college students. Methods: A cross-sectional multistage study was conducted. Participants were 11,954 students, who were recruited from 50 Chinese universities located in 43 cities covering 23 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China. The Student Daily Stress Questionnaire (SDSQ) was applied to measure the different types of stress, and mental health status was measured using the 12-item Chinese Health Questionnaire (CHQ). Both unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression models were utilized in the statistical analyses. Multilevel analyses were performed to examine the variation of mental disorder at both the individual and university levels. Results: The prevalence of mental disorders was 22.8% (95% CI: 22.0-23.5%). The unadjusted models showed that age, gender, grade, major, and university location and type were the correlates of mental disorders among students. The unadjusted models developed in this research found that study stress, life stress, and uncertainty stress were positively associated with mental disorder. The multilevel logistic regression models showed that uncertainty stress was far more likely to result in students' mental disorders than study or life stress after controlling for university level. The greater the perceived uncertainty stress, the higher the prevalence of mental disorders. Conclusion: This study provides robust evidence of the impact of uncertainty stress on mental disorders among college students. Compared with life and study stress, more attention should be given to uncertainty stress. The information from this study should be helpful when considering effective mental health policies and interventions among college students in China.

Abstract:Numerous studies have indicated that academic stress is associated with various detrimental personal physical and emotional outcomes; however, relatively few studies have explored how academic stress affects adolescents' interactions with their significant others in families and schools, which are two important social systems for school-age adolescents. In addition, there are also few studies examining how academic stress influences adolescents' self-disclosure to parents and school engagement in East Asian districts particularly in Hong Kong, where the level of academic stress among adolescents is high. This study examines how academic stress affects mental distress, academic self-disclosure to parents and school engagement and explores gender differences in the risk for the outcomes of academic stress. One thousand and eight hundred and four students from eight secondary schools in Hong Kong participated in this study. The results indicate that academic stress has a significant association with all three outcomes, but the correlation with school engagement is positive, which is contrary to the findings of most previous studies. The possible reasons for such positive association are discussed. In addition, the model can be applied to both genders, but females are more susceptible to the detrimental outcomes of academic stress by suffering a higher level of mental distress. This study suggests that academic stress should be an important entry point to tackle adolescents' mental distress while interventions should be targeted at females who are experiencing a higher level of mental distress. In addition, in view of the significant associations between academic stress and self-disclosure to parents, as well as between academic stress and school engagement, suggestions are provided to families and schools on how to proactively provide support to those students who are experiencing academic stress.

Time use in out-of-class activities and its association with self-efficacy and perceived stress: data from second-year medical students in China

Abstract:Background: Medical students struggle with heavy workloads and face unique time management challenges, calling for insight on medical students' time use in out-of-class activities and related psychological factors.Objectives: To investigate Chinese medical students' time use in out-of-class activities and its association with self-efficacy and perceived stress.Design: 940 second-year medical students were invited to participate in the survey. A questionnaire was developed to investigate the amount of time participants spent on out-of-class activities. Two existing instruments were used to assess participants' self-efficacy and perceived stress. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used to analyze the data.Results: 686 students (72.98%) completed the survey. On average, students spent about 14.4 hours per week (HPW) preparing for class and studying, 13.8 HPW on leisure and recreation, 4.8 HPW on physical exercise, 4.1 HPW on student clubs, 1.9 HPW on volunteering, and 1.9 HPW on part-time jobs on/off-campus. After controlling for demographic factors, higher self-efficacy was associated with more time preparing for class and studying (OR = 1.29, 95%CI: 1.10 ~ 1.52). Higher perceived stress was associated with less time preparing for class and studying (OR = 0.84, 95%CI: 0.72 ~ 0.98), exercising (OR = 0.82, 95%CI: 0.69 ~ 0.97), and volunteering (OR = 0.81, 95%CI: 0.67 ~ 0.97).Conclusions: Chinese medical students reported more time spent on preparing for class and studying and less time spent on volunteering and part-time jobs on/off-campus. Time spent preparing for class and studying was associated with higher self-efficacy and lower perceived stress, while perceived stress was also associated with less time spent on physical exercise and volunteering. Medical schools may need to employ measures to develop their students' self-efficacy and maintain a relatively low level of perceived stress, especially in students who also have a low level of self-efficacy.

Abstract:This study aimed to explore the interplay between physical activity, self-efficacy, stress self-management and mental health among adolescents. The study gathered data from an online survey conducted among 400 Chinese middle school students (mean age = 13.74 years). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and PROCESS 4.1. The findings indicated a positive and significant relationship between physical activity, self-efficacy, stress self-management, and mental health. Notably, the association between physical activity and mental health was entirely mediated by self-efficacy and stress self-management. Moreover, self-efficacy and stress self-management exhibited a chain mediation effect on the relationship between physical activity and mental health. It is suggested that interventions focusing on physical activity should prioritize strategies for enhancing students' self-efficacy and stress self-management skills as integral components of promoting adolescents' mental health. Future research should delve into identifying specific types of physical activities that have a greater potential to enhance self-efficacy and stress self-management abilities.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to examine whether student characteristics affect the risk of health conditions, and explore whether the degree of academic stress affects the level of distress. We surveyed medical students in the Inner Mongolia Medical College China using a questionnaire. A logistic regression analysis was used to ascertain factors associated with distress. The Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney test was used to determine the relationship between distress and different academic stress levels. Of the 6044 students completing questionnaires, 47.5% self-reported distressing body symptoms induced by academic stress. Chi square tests showed statistically significant associations between distress and gender, academic stress, and residence; feeling academic stress caused a more than 1.5 times risk of distress. Gender and academic stress were significantly associated with distress in non-conditional binary logistic regression models. Compared with male students, female students was more likely to feel distress. The Wilcoxon Mann-Whitney test also showed that the distress rate increased with academic stress and a dose-response relationship between the distress rate and stress level was found. The present study indicates that it is important to reduce academic stress and manage it in order that better outcomes be achieved in regard to distress, especially in females.
The impact of school life and family involvement on Western China junior high school students' wellbeing at multidimensional levels

Abstract:Background: The focus of students' health concerns has gradually progressed from the single factor of physical health to comprehensive health factors, and the physical and mental health of students are now generally considered together. This study focuses on exploring the status of junior high school students' physical health and their subjective health assessment with the major societal factors that affect students' lives: School Life and Family involvement. In addition, we explore the main factors influencing students' subjective health. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 190 Tibetan junior high school students in the Maozhuang Township. The intentional sampling was used to choose the research object. The structured questionnaire comprised four parts, namely social and demographic information, family condition, school life, and subjective health quality which was assessed by PROMIS (Chinese version of the Pediatric Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System). Result: The average height and weight of boys and girls are statistically different (p-values of 0.026 and 0.044, respectively), but there is no statistically significant difference in BMI (Body Mass Index) between boys and girls (p-value of 0.194). The average values of the five dimensions of depression, anger, anxiety, fatigue, and peer relationships in the PROMIS of the research subjects were 58.9 ± 5.3, 53.3 ± 8.0, 58.1 ± 7.3, 52.8 ± 8.0, 39.3 ± 6.6. In the demographic dimension, the grade was the main factor influencing anger (p < 0.01) and fatigue (p < 0.01), while gender was related to peer relationships (p = 0.02). In the family dimension, the father's educational level was related to peer relationships (p = 0.05), while the family financial situation was related to depression (p = 0.01). In the school life dimension, relationship with classmates was found to affect anger (p = 0.05), while homework was related to anxiety (p = 0.02) and fatigue (p = 0.05). Conclusion: the physical health index BMI and subjective health evaluation of students are worse than students of more developed areas in China. Their family environment and school life all have varying degrees of impact on the five subjective health outcomes. There are differences in gender and grade level. The government and society need to pay more attention to the physical and mental health of students in remote and underdeveloped areas and improve their health through a student nutrition plan and the establishment of mental health offices.
Examining the relationship between academic stress and motivation toward physical education within a semester: A two-wave study with Chinese secondary school students

Abstract:The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between academic stress and motivation toward physical education (PE) through a longitudinal design with cross-lagged panel analyses. A sample of 556 Chinese secondary school students participated in the research and completed Perceived Locus of Causality Scale and Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents at the beginning of the semester and 3 months later. The results demonstrated that academic stress factors were positively related to less self-determined motivations except that worry about grades was positively related to more self-determined motivations within each time point. In addition, we found that academic stress negatively predicted more self-determined motivations but positively predicted less self-determined motivations, whereas worry about grades negatively predicted amotivation 3 months later. Meanwhile, the influence of amotivation on despondency was also found. These results suggest that academic stress can obstruct students’ participation in PE through an impact on self-determined motivation. Our findings also indicate that self-determined students in PE will seek academic achievement as well, which in turn improves students’ academic status.

Academic burden and emotional problems among adolescents in China: a longitudinal mediation analysis

Abstract:Background There is a high prevalence of depression and anxiety in adolescents, and emotional problems are more likely to occur for students with high academic burden. The reasons underlying the educational impact are not well understood. This study aimed to explore loneliness, physical activity, and sleep as potential mediating pathways between academic burden and emotional problems in adolescents. Methods A longitudinal cohort study was conducted among middle and high school students in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, China with data collected at three time points (T1: April-May 2022, T2: September-October 2022, T3: February-May 2023). Depressive and anxiety symptoms were assessed using the Children’s Depression Inventory and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, respectively. Structural equation modeling was employed to analyze the direct effect of academic burden (measured by study time and academic stress) on depressive and anxiety symptoms, and the indirect effects of academic burden via three mediators: loneliness, physical activity, and sleep. Results Using data from 2965 adolescents who completed all the three assessments, we found that higher academic stress at T1 was directly associated with more severe depressive symptoms at T3. Sleep (indirect effect 0.08, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.10), loneliness (0.07, 0.06 to 0.08) and physical activity (0.01, 0.002 to 0.01) mediated the association, accounting for 30.8%, 26.7% and 1.9% of the total effect of academic stress respectively. For anxiety symptoms, sleep (0.04, 0.03 to 0.05) and loneliness (0.03, 0.02 to 0.03) mediated the effect of academic stress with longitudinal mediation effect sizes of 34.4% and 20.8%, respectively. Study time was only associated with the outcomes indirectly via academic stress. Conclusions Our findings suggest that sleep, loneliness and physical activity could partly explain why adolescents with higher academic stress had more severe emotional problems, highlighting the importance of behavior and psychosocial differences driven by academic burden in explaining severity of mental health problems. The findings should raise awareness about the related risk factors of academic burden for adolescents, and strengthen calls for comprehensive strategies to improve adolescent mental health.
Adapting and Validating the Test of Understanding in College Economics to Assess the Economic Knowledge and Understanding of Students in Germany 1. Research Aims and Questions

Abstract:In Europe and particularly in Germany, cross-institutional assessment of students’ learning in higher education is becoming an increasingly important research area. This is especially true for the field of business and economics, which is the most popular field of study among beginning and advanced students (Federal Statistical Office, 2012). Nevertheless, the field of business and economics still lacks a German-language test instrument that meets academic requirements to assess economic knowledge (Kuhn & Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia, 2011). Previous research approaches have focused on target groups outside of higher education (Nickolaus, 2011). To close the research gap, the WiwiKom project is developing a German language test instrument to measure the economic knowledge of business and economics students in Germany. This will be done by adapting and validating international assessment instruments and merging them into one German test instrument. The adapted test is also meant to enable international comparative studies focusing on, for instance, higher education students in Germany and the U.S. and comparing the economic knowledge they acquire during their studies.
Chinese International Students in the United States: The Interplay of Students’ Acculturative Stress, Academic Standing, and Quality of Life

Abstract:Background Acculturation could cause grave health consequences in international students. However, there is a shortage of research into how acculturative stress might affect international students’ quality of life in light of their academic standing and experience. The lack of research is particularly pronounced among Chinese international students, representing the largest body of international students studying in the United States (U.S.). Thus, to bridge the research gap, this study aims to examine the interplay between international students’ acculturative stress, academic standing, and quality of life among a nationally representative sample of Chinese international students studying in the United States. Methods An online survey that gauges Chinese international students’ levels of acculturative stress, academic standing, and quality of life was developed. Over 350 higher education institutions across the United States were approached, including public universities, private universities, and community colleges, among which approximately 220 institutions responded positively and supported survey distribution. A total of 751 students completed the survey. Multiple regression analyses were carried out to examine the associations between students’ acculturative stress, academic standing, and quality of life. Results Findings reveal that acculturative stress negatively affects all four domains of Chinese international students’ quality of life, irrespective of their academic standing. Data analyses also show that compared to master’s and doctoral students, undergraduates experience the highest levels of acculturative stress. Furthermore, a significant difference emerged among undergraduate and doctoral international students’ acculturative stress levels, but not among undergraduate and master’s students, or master’s and doctoral students. Conclusion Our study found that, compared to master’s and doctoral students, undergraduates had more significant acculturative stress associated with lower levels of quality of life. This finding highlights the potentially positive role of academic experience – while acculturative stress deteriorates international students’ quality of life, students’ academic standing and experience could be the protective factor in the equation. Future research could further examine how universities and colleges can capitalize on their academic apparatuses and resources to improve international students’ academic performance and students’ acculturation experience and quality of life.

Abstract:Introduction: Studies have shown that the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic may lead to long-term health problems; therefore, more attention should be paid to the mental health of university students. This study aimed to explore the longitudinal effects of preventive behaviors and psychological resilience on the mental health of Chinese college students during COVID-19. Methods: We recruited 2,948 university students from five universities in Shandong Province. We used a generalized estimating equation (GEE) model to estimate the impact of preventive behaviors and psychological resilience on mental health. Results: In the follow-up survey, the prevalence of anxiety (44.8% at T1 vs 41.2% at T2) and stress (23.0% at T1 vs 19.6% at T2) decreased over time, whereas the prevalence of depression (35.2% at T1 vs 36.9% at T2) increased significantly ( P < 0.001). Senior students were more likely to report depression (OR = 1.710, P < 0.001), anxiety (OR = 0.815, P = 0.019), and stress (OR = 1.385, P = 0.011). Among all majors, medical students were most likely to report depression (OR = 1.373, P = 0.021), anxiety (OR = 1.310, P = 0.040), and stress (OR = 1.775, P < 0.001). Students who wore a mask outside were less likely to report depression (OR = 0.761, P = 0.027) and anxiety (OR = 0.686, P = 0.002) compared to those who did not wear masks. Students who complied with the standard hand-washing technique were less likely to report depression (OR = 0.628, P < 0.001), anxiety (OR = 0.701, P < 0.001), and stress (OR = 0.638, P < 0.001). Students who maintained a distance of one meter in queues were less likely to report depression (OR = 0.668, P < 0.001), anxiety (OR = 0.634, P < 0.001), and stress (OR = 0.638, P < 0.001). Psychological resilience was a protective factor against depression (OR = 0.973, P < 0.001), anxiety (OR = 0.980, P < 0.001), and stress (OR = 0.976, P < 0.001). Discussion: The prevalence of depression among university students increased at follow-up, while the prevalence of anxiety and stress decreased. Senior students and medical students are vulnerable groups. University students should continue to follow relevant preventive behaviors to protect their mental health. Improving psychological resilience may help maintain and promote university students' mental health.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To test the independent and interactive associations of physical activity (PA) and screen time (ST) with self-reported mental health and sleep quality among Chinese college students.METHOD: Data were collected in October, 2013. The gender, age, residential background, body mass index (BMI), perceived family economy and perceived study burden were obtained from a total of 4747 college students (41.6% males and 58.4% females). The outcomes were self-reported PA status, ST, anxiety, depression, psychopathological symptoms and sleep quality. Analyses were conducted with logistic regression models.RESULTS: Overall, 16.3%, 15.9% and 17.3% of the students had psychological problems, such as anxiety, depression and psychopathological symptoms, respectively. The prevalence of poor sleep quality was 9.8%. High ST was significantly positively associated with anxiety (OR=1.38, 95%CI: 1.15-1.65), depression (OR=1.76, 95%CI: 1.47-2.09), psychopathological symptoms (OR=1.69, 95%CI: 1.43-2.01) and poor sleep quality (OR=1.32, 95%CI: 1.06-1.65). High PA was insignificantly negatively associated with anxiety, depression, psychopathological symptoms and poor sleep. Low PA and high ST were independently and interactively associated with increased risks of mental health problems and poor sleep quality (p<0.05 for all).CONCLUSION: Interventions are needed to reduce ST and increase PA in the lifestyles of young people. Future research should develop and measure the impacts of interventions and their potential consequences on sleep, health, and well being.

Abstract:The central aim of this study was to explore the impact of college stress on psychological well-being in respective of Chinese college students. College stress consisted of academic hassle, personal hassle and negative life event, which was measured by College Stress Scale (CSS). Psychological well-being was conceptualized as mental health status and self-esteem, which was measured by GHQ-20, and Self-esteem Scale (SES). The research questions are four: 1) Does college stress exert a negative impact on psychological well-being? 2) Does academic hassle exert a negative impact on psychological well-being? 3) Does personal hassle exert a negative impact on psychological well-being? 4) Does negative life event exert a negative impact on psychological well-being? Four hypotheses were established along by the research questions. The study was designed on cross-sectional and correlational principles, and retrospective (ex post facto) questionnaire investigation method was mainly adopted. In the study, 788 undergraduate students from three specific universities in Beijing were included. The results indicated that all the four hypotheses were supported. The conclusion therefore was that college stress and its different aspects exert negative impacts on psychological well-being.

Abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic has unhinged the lives of people across the globe. In particular, more than 30 million Chinese college students are home-schooling, yet there is little understanding of how academic workload, separation from school, and fears of contagion lead to a decrease in their health. This study examined the relationships between Chinese college students’ three critical stressors and two types of health in the COVID‐19 pandemic context. We used a three-wave lagged design with a one-week interval. All the constructs were assessed by self-report in anonymous surveys during the COVID‐19 pandemic. College students were asked to report their demographic information, academic workload, separation from school, fears of contagion, perceived stress, and health. The results of this study showed that academic workload, separation from school, and fears of contagion had negative effects on college students’ health via perceived stress. In the COVID-19 crisis, multiple prevention and control measures focusing on college students may lead them to have different degrees of stress and health problems. Our results enrich the literature on stress and health and offer novel practical implications for all circles of the society to ensure students’ health under the context of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Abstract:PURPOSE: This study explores the relationship between Chinese college Students' different levels of physical health and their perceived stress, depression and life satisfaction, then to analyze the impact of university exercise intervention courses on the above-mentioned mental health. Abstract:College students in the U.S. and China have faced significant challenges during COVID-19. Data were collected from 120 Amerian students ( M age = 19.48, SD age = 1.30) and 119 Chinese students ( M age = 18.61, SD age = 0.91) in November, 2019 and March, 2020 to examine risk and protective factors for mental health (depression, anxiety, life satisfaction) during the pandemic, and potential cultural and gender differences. Results indicated that the frequency and impact of COVID-19-related stressful life events predicted deterioration of mental health over time, while social connectedness before the pandemic buffered the negative impact of COVID-19 stressful life events on life satisfaction. Chinese students reported higher levels of social connectedness and larger impact of COVID-19-related stressful life events, but lower frequency of stressful life events than American students. Stressful life events and social connectedness predicted mental health outcomes similarly for Chinese and American students. Gender differences were identified. Females reported more stressful life events, higher levels of depression, anxiety and less life satisfaction during COVID-19 than males. In addition, the frequency of stressful life events had a stronger impact on depression and anxiety for females compared with males. It is important to implement prevention and intervention programs to promote social connections and wellbeing among college students, especially among female students.

Abstract:Objective To explore the causal relationship between social support, physical activity behavior, and family relationships among university students. Methods Using the Social Support Rating Scale, the Physical Activity Behavior Self-Assessment Scale, and the Family Relationships Scale, a longitudinal follow-up survey was conducted on 412 college students in Sichuan Province at 2-month intervals in March 2024 (T1) and May 2024 (T2), to analyze the interaction mechanisms between college students' social support, physical activity behaviors, and family relationships through cross-lagging. Results (1) There are significant gender differences in social support, physical activity behavior, and family relationships among college students. Among the cross-lagged paths found, except for the path from T1 social support to T2 family relationships (β: 0.40 > 0.21), all other cross-lagged paths are smaller for female college students compared to male college students; (2) T1 social support was able to positively predict T2 physical activity behaviors (β = 0.50, p < 0.001), and T1 physical activity behavior can also positively predict T2 social support (β = 0.18, p < 0.01), but the path value T1 social support → T2 physical activity behavior is larger than T1 physical activity behavior → T2 social support. Therefore, social support is a causal variable for physical activity behavior; (3) T1 social support positively predicts T2 family relationships (β = 0.26, p < 0.001); (4) T1 family relationships positively predict T2 physical activity behavior (β = 0.30, p < 0.001). (5) Physical activity behavior is a mediating variable between family relationships and social support, with a mediating effect size of 0.054. Conclusion There are gender differences in social support, physical activity behavior, and family relationships among college students; there is a longitudinal causal relationship between social support, physical activity behavior, and family relationships; social support is a causal variable of physical activity behavior, and social support is also a causal variable of family relationships, and family relationships are the Social support is a causal variable for physical activity behavior, social support is also a causal variable for family relations, and family relations are a causal variable for physical activity behavior, which has a partially mediating role in family relations and social support.
