Abstract:A comparison was made of the protective action of cysteine, cysteamine, and sodium nitrite against the lethality in mice by x irradiation, nitrogen mustard, or triethylenemelamine. 8triking differences were revealed in the degree of protection obtained by the preadministration of the compounds. All compounds afforded some protection against the lethal effects of x irradiation. Substantial protection against the lethality of HN2 was obtained with cysteine, and some protection with cysteamine. None of the compounds gave measurable protection against TEM. Chemical interaction of HN2 or TEM with cystcine or cysteamine in vitro was demonstrated. The reaction of HN2 with cysteinc or cysteamine was instantaneous, whereas, that between TEM and cysteine or cysteamine required several hours. lt is suggested that the difference in reactivity may explain the differences in the degree of protection afforded by the sulfhydryl-containing compcunds. The in vitto reaction product of TEM with cysteine was isolated and purified. The probable structure of the reaction product is suggested. This compound was shown to be inert with respect to toxicity as well as carcinostatic effects on leukemia-l2l0. A threefold increase in the urinary excretion occurred more » when cysteine was preadministered to mice as compared to HN2 alone. Abstract:Biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) hold tremendous promise in nano-bioscience, with applications spanning engineering, science, and industry. This study delves into their fabrication process, crystallographic characteristics, and nanostructures. Employing green banana peel extract (GBPE), Ag NPs were synthesized. Various analytical techniques, such as UV-Vis absorption spectrophotometry (UV), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) elucidate their attributes. UV-visible analysis reveals a 413 nm absorption band due to surface plasmon resonance. The Ag NPs exhibit a face-centered cubic structure with an average crystallite size of 45.87 nm. Lattice parameters and dislocation density are also determined. When tested against harmful bacteria, such as E. coli and S. epidermidis, advanced microscopy reveals a median size of particles of 55.12 nm and demonstrates their antibacterial characteristics. These environmentally benign Ag NPs also improve the efficiency of bio-electrochemical cells (BECs), opening the door to large-scale manufacturing at a reasonable cost and broadening the range of possible uses.
Silver Nanoparticles Synthesis using Banana Peels Extract and Its in Silico Evaluation for Antibacterial Activity against Escherichia coli

Abstract:Metal nanoparticles (NPs) is widely applied in biomedical science. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is one of the potential metal nanoparticles famous for its potent antibacterial properties. However, its detrimental consequences on human health have been a significant concern. In this study, AgNPs was synthesized using banana peels by environmentally friendly approach, and their antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli as well as mechanisms were studied in silico. Total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and total tannin acid content (TTC) of the BPE were initially determined by extraction using aqueous and methanolic solutions. A disc diffusion test (DDT) against E. coli was used to confirm the antibacterial activity of the BPE and BPE-AgNPs. An in silico approach was used to conduct molecular docking research to assess the potential antibacterial mechanism of BPE phytochemicals with the proteins of E. coli. The phytochemical content analysis shows that flavonoid has the highest content in the aqueous and the methanol extract, with respective concentrations of 439.60±57.84 mg QE/g DW and 222.42±14.56 mg QE/g DW. According to the results of DDT, BPE-AgNPs demonstrated positive antibacterial activity, while BPE demonstrated negative result. Several flavonoid chemical compounds, including rutin, quercetin, myricetin, naringenin, apigenin, luteolin, morin, galangin, catechin, and chrysin, were examined for their ability to bind to E. coli proteins such penicillin-binding protein, dihydrofolate reductase, and glutamate racemase. Rutin with penicillin-binding protein demonstrated the highest binding affinity, with the lowest free binding energy of -9.96 kcal/mol and the inhibition constant of 0.05 μM. The in silico and molecular docking analysis demonstrated the ability of active components of banana peels to inhibit the activity of the E.coli proteins. These elements not only function as reducing and stabilising agents for AgNP synthesis but also prevent E. coli from growing, which is potential in future antibacterial uses.

Abstract:Nanoparticles have excellent catalytic, adsorptive, and reactive properties, which led to their application for wastewater treatment. The current study focuses on silver nanoparticle synthesis using neem leaf and banana peel extract and its application as an antimicrobial and dye degrading agent for wastewater treatment. The use of these extracts led to a rapid, simple, and environment-friendly method for the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). UV-Vis spectroscopy showed absorption bands at 473 and 423 nm for AgNPs synthesized from neem leaf and banana peel extracts, respectively. The AgNPs were further characterized using XRD, FTIR, ESEM, EDX, and DLS methods. XRD data confirmed the crystalline nature of the synthesized AgNPs. ESEM images revealed the synthesized nanoparticles were spherical. From DLS analysis the average diameter of the AgNPs was found to be 168.7 nm from banana peel and 206.4 nm from neem leaf extract. Antibacterial activity of synthesized nanoparticles at 0.025 mg/ml concentration was tested against Escherichia coli (E.coli), Bacillus subtilis (B.subtilis), Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus), and Klebsiella sp. using disk diffusion method and the zone of inhibitions observed were 10–13, 3–4, 2–3, and 1–3 nm respectively. 99% degradation of model dye malachite green was observed using banana peels-derived nanoparticles at a concentration of 0.06 mg/ml within 4.5 h. This study provides an eco-friendly and economic approach to AgNP synthesis and its potential application in the removal of hazardous dye from wastewater.

Abstract:Bacterial stem and root rot disease of sweet potato caused by Dickeya dadantii recently broke out in major sweet potato planting areas in China and calls for effective approaches to control the pathogen and disease. Here, we developed a simple method for green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using bacterial culture supernatants. AgNPs synthesized with the cell-free culture supernatant of a bacterium Pseudomonas rhodesiae displayed the characteristic surface plasmon resonance peak at 420-430 nm and as nanocrystallites in diameters of 20-100 nm determined by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. Functional groups associated with proteins in the culture supernatant may reduce silver ions and stabilize AgNPs. The AgNPs showed antibacterial activities against D. dadantii growth, swimming motility, biofilm formation, and maceration of sweet potato tubers whereas the culture supernatant of P. rhodesiae did not. AgNPs (12 mu g.ml(-1)) and AgNO3 (50 mu g.ml(-1)) showed close antibacterial activities. The antibacterial activities increased with the increase of AgNP concentrations. The green-synthesized AgNPs can be used to control the soft rot disease by control of pathogen contamination of sweet potato seed tubers.

Abstract:The green synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles has gained a lot of interest in the area of nanotechnology, because of its high therapeutic properties. The present study focussed on the synthesis of the silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) using Ceropegia debilis leaf extract and characterized by various physio-chemical techniques and surface morphological studies. The prepared Ag-NPs exhibit a face-centred cubic structure, spherical morphology, and high purity as shown by XRD, SEM, and EDS analyses. The average size of the Ag-NPs was confirmed by TEM study as 18.6 ± 7.5 nm. The synthesized Ag-NPs show remarkable antioxidant activity of 72.1% compared to standard BHT 86.9%. Furthermore, Ag-NPs show remarkable cytotoxic properties against MCF 7 and A 549 cell line of 37.19% and 33.33%, respectively at 250 μg/mL. The antibacterial activity of Ag-NPs was investigated against the human pathogen and intestinal pathogen Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by agar disc diffusion method. Moreover, the synthesised Ag-NPs exhibit good antifungal properties against the fungal specimen Trichoderma viride assessed by well diffusion technique. In addition, Ag-NPs serve as an excellent nanocatalyst in the removal of toxic methylene blue dye (93.2%) from industrial wastewater under sunlight irradiation.

Abstract:The study assessed the bactericidal effects of green rapid biogenic synthesis of Vitex trifolia leaves AgNPs on MDR bacteria. The synthesis of AgNPs is indicated by a color change from yellow to dark brown. The ultra-visible spectrophotometer displays AgNPs at 430 nm max. This demonstrates that ions (Ag + ) were converted to silver (Ag), indicating the formation of silver nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by their crystalline nature, shape, size, and functional groups via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X- ray spectroscopy (EDAX), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Biomolecules contain aqueous Vitex extract for capping and reducing the AgNPs. The nanoparticles have a face-centered cubic structure (FCC) crystallized. The antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus , Vibrio cholerae , and Klebsiella pneumoniae exhibited a maximum zone of growth inhibition at 75 μg/mL. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of AgNPs against the clinically isolated pathogen S. aureus were 3.12 μg/mL and 4.5 μg/mL. Furthermore, time-dependent killing kinetic experiments showed that a 6 h AgNPs treatment was sufficient to fully inhibit all bacterial growth. AgNPs at a concentration of 250 μg/mL demonstrated antioxidant activity as measured by the FRAP and DPPH tests (85% and 90%, respectively). AgNPs demonstrated efficient photocatalytic activity in the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and achieved their highest photocatalytic activity (95%) after 2.30 h. Besides, the synthesis of AgNPs was targeted towards C. vulgaris algae, and exhibited deleterious effects even at larger concentrations. The chosen AgNPs concentration reduced chlorophyll, impeded algal development, and damaged the whole membrane system, as evidenced by the increased electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione s-transferase (GSH) content after AgNPs exposure. Our report demonstrates that AgNPs V. trifolia have promising antibacterial, antioxidant, and potential dye degradation activities and can be employed in biomedical applications.

Abstract:Nanotechnology and nanoparticles have gained massive attention in the scientific community in recent years due to their valuable properties. Among various AgNPs synthesis methods, microbial approaches offer distinct advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness, biocompatibility, and eco-friendliness. In the present research work, investigators have synthesized three different types of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), namely AgNPs-K, AgNPs-M, and AgNPs-E, by using Klebsiella pneumoniae (MBC34), Micrococcus luteus (MBC23), and Enterobacter aerogenes (MBX6), respectively. The morphological, chemical, and elemental features of the synthesized AgNPs were analyzed by using UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDX). UV-Vis absorbance peaks were obtained at 475, 428, and 503 nm for AgNPs-K, AgNPs-M, and AgNPs-E, respectively. The XRD analysis confirmed the crystalline nature of the synthesized AgNPs, having peaks at 26.2°, 32.1°, and 47.2°. At the same time, the FTIR showed bands at 599, 963, 1,693, 2,299, 2,891, and 3,780 cm-1 for all the types of AgNPs indicating the presence of bacterial biomolecules with the developed AgNPs. The size and morphology of the AgNPs varied from 10 nm to several microns and exhibited spherical to porous sheets-like structures. The percentage of Ag varied from 37.8% (wt.%) to 61.6%, i.e., highest in AgNPs-K and lowest in AgNPs-M. Furthermore, the synthesized AgNPs exhibited potential for environmental remediation, with AgNPs-M exhibiting the highest removal efficiency (19.24% at 120 min) for methyl orange dye in simulated wastewater. Further, all three types of AgNPs were evaluated for the removal of methyl orange dye from the simulated wastewater, where the highest dye removal percentage was 19.24% at 120 min by AgNPs-M. Antibacterial potential of the synthesized AgNPs assessment against both Gram-positive (GPB) Bacillus subtilis (MBC23), B. cereus (MBC24), and Gram-negative bacteria Enterococcus faecalis (MBP13) revealed promising results, with AgNPs-M, exhibiting the largest zone of inhibition (12 mm) against GPB B. megaterium. Such investigation exhibits the potential of the bacteria for the synthesis of AgNPs with diverse morphology and potential applications in environmental remediation and antibacterial therapy-based synthesis of AgNPs.

Abstract:The eco-friendly and cost-effective strategies for the preparation of nanoparticles are the cutting edge researches in the field of nanotechnology. The objective of the study was the eco-friendly synthesis, characterization and their antibacterial activity of AgNPs using stem extract of Phyllanthus pinnatus. The appearance of the dark brown color showed the biofabrication of AgNPs and its characterised by UV–Vis, SEM, XRD, and FT-IR analysis. Consequently, the antibacterial activity of AgNPs was tested against different bacterial pathogens. The UV–Vis spectrum of colloidal AgNPs exhibited a strong absorption peak at 490 nm. Besides, the SEM image showed that the AgNPs were fairly uniform in the nanoscale with mostly cubical morphology. The XRD analysis showed the crystalline nature of AgNPs. In addition, the FT-IR spectrum revealed the presence of functional groups attached to the surface of AgNPs that may have a role in bioreduction and stabilization of AgNPs. The AgNPs showed dose-dependent toxicity against bacterial pathogens. The maximum zone of inhibition was found at 1.8 mm in diameter for both Vibrio cholera and Shigella flexneri at 40 µL concentration. Although the current study showed potent in vitro antibacterial activity of AgNPs, further studies are required to establish the bactericidal potential of AgNPs on animal models for drug development.

Optimization of silver nanoparticles synthesis via Plackett-Burman experimental design: in vitro assessment of their efficacy against oxidative stress-induced disorders

Abstract:Nanoparticles possess remarkable biological activities owing to their small size and large surface-to-volume ratio. Given the increasing adoption of environmentally sustainable practices in silver nanoparticle (AgNP) fabrication, this study presents a simple lab-scale green synthesis of AgNPs using banana peels. Large amounts of banana peels are disposed off in Pakistan every day. As the fruit is available throughout the year and contains many active components with potent biological activities, we aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles using its peel, through an energy-efficient and inexpensive route. The synthesis was optimized according to the Plackett-Burman design (PDB) of experiments, which helped identify significant factors and saved time and resources. For characterization, UV-Vis spectroscopy and SEM-EDX analysis were performed, revealing spherical particles in the 45-65 nm size range. To investigate functional groups, FT-IR analysis was performed, revealing the presence of N-C[double bond, length as m-dash]O amide I bonds of proteins, C-H bonds of tannins and C-O bonds involved in the capping and stabilization of nanoparticles. The free radical scavenging property of banana peel-mediated silver nanoparticles (BP-AgNPs) was studied against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and the antioxidant potential was found to be 79% at 500 μg mL-1 concentration. The efficacy of BP-AgNPs with respect to certain biological activities were studied through anti-inflammatory assays, which demonstrated better results compared to a standard drug, and an anti-glycation assay, wherein only 4% of AGEs were formed, demonstrating 96% of AGE inhibition in vitro. The findings not only demonstrated the effectiveness of the PBD approach but also highlighted the potent property of BP-AgNPs against disorders associated with oxidative stress.

Abstract:In recent years, nanoparticles of noble metals such as silver have gained enormous attraction owing to their distinct physical, chemical, and biological properties. In the present study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from silver nitrate (AgNO3) using extracted chitosan as the reducing agent. The chitosan was extracted from the exoskeleton of the marine crab Portunus pelagicus. Three different sample solutions were prepared using 0.02mM AgNO3 in 0.5% (w/v) chitosan, 0.04 mM AgNO3 in 0.5% (w/v) chitosan, 0.06 mM AgNO3 in 0.5% (w/v) chitosan. Preliminary characterization of the formed silver nanoparticles was made based on the measurements of ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The characteristic absorbance peak corresponding to silver nanoparticles was observed at 400nm. The average size of chitosan-based silver nanoparticles was in the range of 160-530nm. The synthesized nanoparticles were further tested for their antimicrobial activity. The synthesized chitosan-based silver nanoparticles exhibited effective antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli as well as Gram-positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium chrysogenum. Among the different concentrations of silver nitrate solutions, a maximum zone of inhibition against all the microbial cultures was observed with chitosan-based silver nanoparticles produced using 0.06mM silver nitrate solution. The synthesized nanoparticles were further incorporated in Cotton Gauze to evaluate its antibacterial activity. It showed higher bactericidal activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa followed by Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli and thus proved to have the potential to be used as wound dressing material.
Phyco-synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Mediated from Marine Algae Sargassum myriocystum and Its Potential Biological and Environmental Applications

Abstract:The present study aims at developing an innovative eco-friendly process in a way to generate safer and more stable silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) with a high purity by means of Sargassum myriocystum aqueous extract. The Ag-NPs formation was preliminary confirmed by UV–Visible spectroscopy analysis based on band of surface plasmon resonance appeared at 420 nm. X-ray diffraction spectrum and Fourier Transform Infrared spectrometer confirmed the crystalline in nature and phyco-molecules involved in the synthesis of Ag-NPs, respectively. The results obtained from the Transmission Electron Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy demonstrated that the synthesized Ag-NPs were well dispersed hexagonal shape with average size of 20 ± 2.2 nm. The Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results observed a strong band at 3 keV proved the presence of metallic Ag ions in the Ag-NPs. The significant antibacterial activity was showed that Ag-NPs against clinical pathogens (Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, S. epidermidis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae). Larvicidal activity against the mosquitos Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus and anti-biofilm activity was assessed using phyco-molecule coated Ag NPs. Further, anticancer activity results showed that the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) noticed at 73.66 µg/mL using MTT assay against human cervical carcinoma (HeLa) cells. In addition, the phyco-synthesized Ag-NPs exhibited potential photocatalytic activity against methylene blue (MB). The maximum percent of MB degradation was observed at 98% within 60 min. Therefore, the present outcomes clearly revealed that the phyco-synthesized Ag-NPs could be used for effective nano-drug for anticancer, prevention of several bacterial strain infections, control the vector borne diseases, as well as to adequately degraded the organic dyes to promising and economical strategy in industries which involve dyeing process.Graphic Abstract

Abstract:Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using the aqueous extract of Terminalia chebula (T-Chebula) fruits. Characterization through X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed AgNPs with a crystalline size ranging from 21 to 24 nm. The biosynthesized AgNPs exhibited a morphology unique to T-Chebula-AgNPs (TC-AgNPs), with an average size of 50 nm and a band gap energy of 2.8 eV. Evaluation of antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) showcased the potential antibacterial activity of AgNPs compared to the standard gentamicin antibiotic. Notably, increasing concentrations of TC-AgNPs correlated with larger zones of inhibition, highlighting their efficacy. In contrast, the T-Chebula extract alone showed no bactericidal activity. Furthermore, under visible light irradiation, TC-AgNPs exhibited significant catalytic potential in degrading water-soluble industrial methylene (MB) dyes, achieving 92% dye degradation rate compared to the previous studies. The stability and recyclability of TC-AgNPs were notably robust across three iterations. Biogenically synthesized TC-AgNPs demonstrate exceptional potential in degrading organic pollutants and deactivating microorganisms. These findings underscore their promising applications in microbial control and the photodegradation of organic pollutants, highlighting their role in sustainable environmental remediation efforts.

Abstract:All reported attempts to synthesize the tert-butyl-substituted adamantoid phosph(III)azane P4 (N(t) Bu)6 have failed, leading to the classification of this molecule as inaccessible and a literature example of steric control in chemistry of phosphorus-nitrogen compounds. We now demonstrate that this structure is readily accessible by a solvent-free mechanochemical milling approach, highlighting the importance of mechanochemical reaction environments in evaluating chemical reactivity.

Abstract:In medicine, the occurrence of antibiotic resistance was becoming a critical concern. At the same time, traditional synthesis methods of antibacterial agents often lead to environmental pollution due to the use of toxic chemicals. To address these problems, this study applies the green synthesis method to create a novel composite using a polymer blend (M8) consisting of chitosan (CS), polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and silver nanoparticles. The results show that the highest ratio of AgNO3:M8 was 0.15 g/60 mL, which resulted in a 100% conversion of Ag+ to Ag0 after 10 h of reaction at 80 °C. Hence, using M8, Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized at the average size of 42.48 ± 10.77 nm. The AgNPs' composite (M8Ag) was used to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA), and Salmonella enterica (SAL). At 6.25% dilution of M8Ag, the growth of these mentioned bacteria was inhibited. At the same dilution percentage of M8Ag, PA was killed.

Abstract:Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a serious threat to public health on a worldwide scale and has made it extremely difficult to effectively control connected infectious diseases. Due to rapid spread of antibacterial resistance among bacteria, it has become necessary to unveil alternative therapies and medications to combat AMR as commercially available antibiotics are becoming less effective. Recently, nanotechnology has become a fast expanding field with several applications in biomedical sciences. Simultaneously, silver has gained popularity as a comparatively safe antibacterial substance and disinfectant. A wide range of antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activities are exhibited by silver nanoparticles. In this current study, Clerodendrum glandulosum leaf extract was used for a simple, economical, and environmentally friendly production of biofunctionalized silver nanoparticles for evaluation of antibacterial efficacy. UV–visible spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis of silver nanoparticles giving absorption maxima at 450 nm due to surface plasmon resonance. From the scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering, the average size of the particles was determined to be 150–200 nm. Energy-dispersive X-ray analysis was used to confirm the elemental composition of the biofunctionalized silver nanoparticles. The X-ray diffraction pattern and the Fourier transform infrared spectrogram have confirmed the crystalline nature and successful biofabrication of silver nanoparticles. The MBC values of the silver nanoparticles have been reported to be in the range of 10–20 μg/ml for a fixed population of bacteria, which is significant when compared to the MBC values of gentamicin against the same four strains. Therefore, biofunctionalization of phytoconstituents on nanosurface might improve silver nanoparticles' antibacterial activity as well as their biocompatibility.

[Gene therapy for vision restoration in patients with Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA) due to RPE65 gene mutations: beginning the phase IV trial].

Abstract:This is a significant time moment in the field of gene therapy in humans. Recently, results from a phase III clinical trial were published, demonstrating the first gene therapy success for a genetic disease. A clinical trial was carried out in patients suffering a hereditary blindness disease named Leber congenital amaurosis, caused by mutations in the RPE65 gene. Participating subjects received a subretinal injection of the normal RPE65 gene and one year after exhibited a significant improvement in visual acuity. It is expected that this gene therapy treatment will be approved by the FDA and commercialized in the USA in 2017.

Abstract:Due to their enhanced and unique physicochemical characteristics, such as their minimal dimensions, large surface area compared to their mass and increased reactivity, nanomaterials hold promise in the field of antibacterial therapy. The aim of this study is to evaluate the method for Green Synthesis, Characterization of Citrus lanatus pulp, rind, and seed-based Silver Nanoparticles, and study its antibacterial activity against common oral microorganisms. Green synthesis of nanoparticles was formulated using the extract from the rind, seed, and pulp of Citrullus lanatus and silver nitrate extract. The extract was stirred in a magnetic stirrer for 24 hours, and centrifugation was done at 8000 rpm for 10 minutes. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized and utilized for the antibacterial study. The characterization was done using UV-visible light spectroscopy, and antibacterial activity was assessed using the well diffusion method and measuring the zone of inhibition. The nanoparticles synthesized were characterized using UV-visible spectroscopy, and the spectroscopic analysis confirmed the formation of silver particles in this study. At 450 nm, a sharp peak was observed, which correlated to the SPR band of the particles. The results showed that the zone of inhibition assessed was comparable to the standard. From this study it can be concluded that silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) produced by green synthesis from Citrullus lanatus showed significant antibacterial potential against common oral microflora.

Abstract:Abstract The synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles is currently experiencing substantial development and considerable attention. Plant extracts are commonly used for the biological synthesis of nanoparticles because they contain biologically active constituents. In our present study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using an aqueous Illicium verum (Star anise) extract to evaluate their antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxicity activities. For maximum yields of AgNPs, the extract (2.5 ml), silver ions (500 μM), and pH (8) were shown to be the ideal nanoparticle production parameters. The visual colour shifted from pale brown to dark brown when the ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer was used to validate the synthesis of AgNPs. A transmission electron microscope was utilized to evaluate nanoparticles’ physical nature. The presence of silver metal with face-centred cubic symmetry was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was used to identify the functional groups in charge of reducing silver ions (Ag + ) and the stability of AgNPs produced using the I. verum aqueous extract. The agar well diffusion method investigated the antibacterial activity of I. verum silver nanoparticles (Iv-AgNPs) against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. At higher doses (100 μg·mL −1 ), the highest zone of inhibition was observed, and spherical AgNPs demonstrated the antibacterial activity. The I. verum extract and Iv-AgNPs enhanced (70%) their free radical scavenging activity at 500 μg·mL −1 according to the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assay. Moreover, the cytotoxicity of Iv-AgNPs against the HCT-116 human colon cancer cell line indicated cell inhibition in a dose-dependent manner. Ultimately, the findings of this study indicate that techniques used to produce AgNPs are environmental friendly, cost-effective, harmless, uncomplicated, and can effectively tackle a broad spectrum of medical and nutritional concerns.

Abstract:Metallic silver tactically attains reductant from biomaterials during biosynthesis, though it is still challenging to fasten the rate of stable nano-silver/silver chloride particles (NAg/AgClPs) synthesis. In this study, two different sizes of NAg/AgClPs (15.9 and 24.2 nm) were synthesised using Cissus quadrangularis stem (CQS) extract under microwave irradiation. The synthesised NAg/AgClPs were characterised using high throughput traditional methods. The antibacterial study of these materials demonstrated excellent activity against human nosocomial pathogens. The metabolic activity and viability assay provided strong evidence that the 15.9 nm NAg/AgClPs inhibited the bacterial pathogens better than the 24.2 nm NAg/AgClPs. The cytotoxicity of the as-synthesised NAg/AgClPs was studied towards human A549 adenocarcinomic alveolar basal epithelial cell line and RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Anticancer activity of both 15.9 nm NAg/AgClPs and 24.2 nm NAg/AgClPs displayed the IC50 values at 85 μg/mL and 90 μg/mL against A549 cells while RAW 264.7 macrophage cells expressed the IC50 values at 130 μg/mL and 140 μg/mL respectively. Further, the synthesised NAg/AgClPs demonstrated high photocatalytic activity towards degradation of environmental pollutant methylene blue (MB) under visible light illumination. Our results suggested that the synthesised NAg/AgClPs can be used to develop novel antimicrobial, anticancer formulations and environmental catalyst.
