Abstract:Aim To describe current situation and analyze temporal trends of prevalence for four autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS) and psoriasis, at the global, continental, and national levels. Methods The estimates and 95% uncertainty interval (UI) for age-standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) of RA, IBD, MS and psoriasis were obtained from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. ASPR of RA, IBD, MS and psoriasis in 2019 was illustrated at the global, continental, and national levels. Joinpoint regression analysis was adopted to analyze the 1990–2019 temporal trends by calculating the annual percentage change (APC) and average APC (AAPC), as well as their 95% confidence interval (CI). Results In 2019, the global ASPR of RA, IBD, MS and psoriasis was 224.25 (95% UI: 204.94 to 245.99), 59.25 (95% UI: 52.78 to 66.47), 21.25 (95% UI: 18.52 to 23.91) and 503.62 (95% UI: 486.92 to 519.22), respectively, with ASPRs generally higher in Europe and America than in Africa and Asia. From 1990 to 2019, the global ASPR increased significantly for RA (AAPC = 0.27%, 95% CI: 0.24 to 0.30; P < 0.001) and decreased significantly for IBD (AAPC = −0.73%, 95% CI: −0.76 to −0.70; P < 0.001), MS (AAPC = −0.22%, 95% CI: −0.25 to −0.18; P < 0.001) and psoriasis (AAPC = −0.93%, 95% CI: −0.95 to −0.91; P < 0.001), with the most substantial changes occurring at different continents and periods. The trends of ASPR of these four autoimmune diseases varied significantly across 204 countries and territories. Conclusions There is a strong heterogeneity in prevalence (2019), as well as their temporal trends (1990–2019) of autoimmune diseases across the world, highlighting the strong distributive inequities of autoimmune diseases worldwide, which may be instructive for better understanding the epidemiology of these diseases, appropriately allocating the medical resources, as well as making relevant health policies.

Abstract:AIM: To describe burden, and to explore cross-country inequalities across sociodemographic development levels for four autoimmune diseases (ADs) including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS) and psoriasis (PS).METHODS: The estimates and their 95% uncertainty interval (UI) for disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of RA, IBD, MS and PS were extracted from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. Age-standardized DALYs rate (ASDR) across 204 countries, as well as age and sex distribution of global DALYs rate of these four ADs were illustrated. Slope index of inequality and concentration index, which are two standard metrics of absolute and relative gradient inequality recommended by World Health Organization (WHO), were utilized to quantify the distributive inequalities in the burden of ADs.RESULTS: In 2019, the ASDR of RA, IBD, MS and PS varied remarkably across 204 countries, with different age and sex distribution of global DALYs rate. The slope index of inequality changed from 26.7 (95% CI: 20.7 to 32.8) in 1990 to 40.3 (95% CI: 31.9 to 48.7) in 2019 for RA, from 17.1 (95% CI: 12.4 to 21.7) in 1990 to 25.2 (95% CI: 20.1 to 30.2) in 2019 for IBD, from 19.3 (95% CI: 15.2 to 23.4) in 1990 to 28.9 (95% CI: 24.2 to 33.5) in 2019 for MS, from 42.3 (95% CI: 33.1 to 51.6) in 1990 to 40.2 (95% CI: 32.5 to 48.0) in 2019 for PS. Moreover, the concentration index showed 20.4 (95% CI: 18.9 to 22.0) in 1990 and 18.2 (95% CI: 16.7 to 19.6) in 2019 for RA, 25.0 (95% CI: 23.0 to 27.1) in 1990 and 33.5 (95% CI: 31.6 to 35.5) in 2019 for IBD, 46.7 (95% CI: 44.0 to 49.3) in 1990 and 41.8 (95% CI: 39.6 to 44.1) in 2019 for MS, 31.7 (95% CI: 29.0 to 34.4) in 1990 and 32.6 (95% CI: 29.9 to 35.2) in 2019 for PS.CONCLUSIONS: There is a strong heterogeneity in ASDR across all countries, as well as in age and sex distribution of global DALYs rate for four ADs including RA, IBD, MS and PS. Countries with higher sociodemographic development levels shouldered disproportionately higher burden of ADs, and the magnitude of this sociodemographic development level-related inequalities exacerbated over time.

Scarce reports exist about Pasteurella multocida infections in HIV infected patients. We report here a case of hypoxemic pneumonia and bacteremia due to Pasteurella multocida revealing an HIV infection in a young man.

Abstract:A free-volume and friction viscosity model is presented versus pressure and temperature, valid for both gaseous and dense fluids. This model involves only three adjustable parameters for each pure compound. It is able to represent the gas-liquid transition and the behavior in the supercritical conditions. The model has been successfully applied to methane (885 data points for 0.01< or =P< or =200 MPa and 90.7< or =T< or =600 K) and to propane (1085 data points for 0.01< or =P< or =200 MPa and 90< or =T< or =600 K) in the gaseous and dense states (average absolute deviation is 2.59% for methane and 2.50% for propane, with maximum deviation of 14.8% for methane and 9.19% for propane). It has also been applied to hexane, octane, dodecane, benzene, trans-decaline, and 2,2-dimethylpropane (903 data points) in a large pressure range (up to 505.5 MPa). Considering these compounds the maximum deviation is 19.5% (for octane) and the average deviation is 3.51% in the worst case (dodecane, which has data points up to 501.6 MPa).

Abstract:Aim To estimate the age-standardized incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates of autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS), type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), asthma, and psoriasis in women of childbearing age from 1990 to 2019, and further analyze their changing trends, at the global, regional, and national levels. Methods Women of childbearing age was defined as 15–49 years old. The estimates and 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs) for case number of RA, IBD, MS, T1DM, asthma and psoriasis in seven age groups (15–19, 20–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, 40–44, 45–49 years) were extracted from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. Age standardization by direct method was adopted to estimate the age-standardized incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates of these autoimmune diseases in women of childbearing age. Joinpoint regression analysis was utilized to analyze the changing trends of estimated age-standardized incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates from 1990 to 2019 by calculating the average annual percentage change (AAPC) and its 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results In 2019, the estimated global age-standardized incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates of RA in women of childbearing age was 17.13 (95% UI: 12.39 to 22.60), 215.86 (95% UI: 179.04 to 259.70), and 0.06 (95% UI: 0.04 to 0.08); of IBD was 5.85 (95% UI: 4.72 to 7.12), 63.54 (95% UI: 53.50 to 74.37), and 0.11 (95% UI: 0.08 to 0.13); of MS was 1.63 (95% UI: 1.05 to 2.28), 28.74 (95% UI: 23.80 to 34.46), and 0.17 (95% UI: 0.14 to 0.27); of T1DM was 6.22 (95% UI: 2.75 to 11.50), 290.51 (95% UI: 221.39 to 370.19), and 0.63 (95% UI: 0.48 to 0.78); of asthma was 291.14 (95% UI: 157.06 to 468.78), 2796.25 (95%UI: 1987.07 to 3842.97), and 1.42 (95% UI: 1.12 to 1.75), respectively. The estimated global age-standardized incidence and prevalence rates of psoriasis in women of childbearing age was 58.68 (95% UI: 51.04 to 66.85) and 477.20 (95% UI: 440.30 to 515.76). Highest disease burden generally exists in Region of the Americas and European Region. From 1990 to 2019, the estimated global age-standardized incidence and prevalence rates of RA (AAPC: 0.18, 95% CI: 0.11 to 0.24; AAPC: 0.24, 95% CI: 0.18 to 0.30) and T1DM (AAPC: 1.47, 95% CI: 1.40 to 1.54; AAPC: 0.83, 95% CI: 0.79 to 0.88) in women of childbearing age showed significantly increasing trends whereas those of IBD (AAPC: -0.76, 95% CI: −0.80 to −0.73; AAPC: -0.65, 95% CI: −0.70 to −0.60), MS (AAPC: -0.20, 95% CI: −0.23 to −0.16; AAPC: -0.25, 95% CI: −0.26 to −0.23), asthma (AAPC: -0.53, 95% CI: −0.60 to −0.47; AAPC: -0.74, 95% CI: −0.81 to −0.68), and psoriasis (AAPC: -0.83, 95% CI: −0.85 to −0.82; AAPC: -0.99, 95% CI: −1.02 to −0.96) showed significantly decreasing trends. Favorably, the estimated global age-standardized mortality rate of RA (AAPC: -1.32, 95% CI: −1.63 to −1.01), IBD (AAPC: -0.95, 95% CI: −1.06 to −0.84), MS (AAPC: -0.96, 95% CI: −1.12 to −0.80), T1DM (AAPC: -1.05, 95% CI: −1.21 to −0.89), and asthma (AAPC: -2.27, 95% CI: −2.34 to −2.19) in women of childbearing age all declined. The changing trends of estimated age-standardized incidence, prevalence, and mortality rates varied significantly across 204 countries and territories. Conclusions Our study provides an accurate estimation on the age-standardization of disease indicators of autoimmune diseases in women of childbearing age. There are remarkable disparities in the incidence, prevalence, and mortality burden related to autoimmune diseases in women of childbearing age, as well as their changing trends across the world, suggesting that each individual government should establish flexible health policies and make reasonable source allocation to address different needs for autoimmune diseases in this population.

Abstract:Background Autoimmune diseases arise from a combination of non-modifiable risk factors, such as gender and genetic predispositions, and modifiable factors, including lifestyle choices and environmental exposures. Given the potential to alter modifiable risk factors, this study aims to evaluate the global burden, temporal trends, and inequalities of autoimmune diseases attributed to modifiable risk factors from 1990 to 2021. The study will provide up-to-date evidence to inform strategies for mitigating the impact of these risk factors on autoimmune diseases worldwide. Methods Data on the global burden of autoimmune diseases attributed to modifiable risk factors were obtained from the Global Burden of Diseases study 2021. Temporal trends in age standardized disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) rates were evaluated by estimated annual percentage changes (EAPC). Spearman rank correlation test was used to explore the association between two variables. Slope index of inequality (SII) and concentration index (CI) were used to evaluated the absolute and relative inequalities in DALY rates and numbers, respectively. Results From 1990 to 2021, type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) due to high temperature has shown an increasing trend in global age standardized DALY rates (EAPC = 0.88, 0.58 to 1.18), whereas all other autoimmune diseases due to specific risk factors have generally exhibited decreasing trends. Across Socio-demographic Index (SDI) quintiles, notable increases were observed in high SDI countries for T1DM due to high temperature (EAPC = 1.36, 0.92 to 1.80), in low and low-middle SDI countries for multiple sclerosis (MS) due to smoking (EAPC = 0.25, 0.23 to 0.27; 0.22, 0.21 to 0.23, respectively), and in low-middle SDI countries for asthma due to high body-mass index (BMI) (EAPC = 0.25, 0.20 to 0.29). In 2021, significant positive associations were observed between SDI and age-standardized DALY rates for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and MS due to smoking, as well as T1DM due to low temperatures across 204 countries and territories (all P < 0.05). In contrast, all other autoimmune diseases attributed to certain risk factors exhibited significant negative associations (all P < 0.05). Women displayed higher global age-standardized DALY rates for asthma due to high BMI (44.1 per 100,000 population), while men exhibited higher global age-standardized DALY rates for all other autoimmune diseases due to specific risk factors. Except for narrowed inequalities in DALY rates for asthma due to smoking (SII = 20.4, 13.0 to 27.8 in 1990 to 6.7, 2.8 to 10.6 in 2021) and in DALY numbers for asthma due to high BMI (CI = 17.3, 24.5 to 9.5 in 1990 to −0.3, 8.2 to −8.6 in 2021), both absolute and relative SDI-related inequalities have remained stable for all other autoimmune diseases linked to specific risk factors. Conclusions Over the past three decades, substantial progress has been achieved in reducing global age-standardized DALY rates for autoimmune diseases attributed to modifiable risk factors, except for T1DM attributed to high temperatures. Despite these advancements, SDI-related inequalities have remained stable for most of these diseases attributed to risk factors, underscoring the urgent need for targeted public health strategies to address these persistent disparities.

Global, regional, and national incidence of six major immune-mediated inflammatory diseases: findings from the global burden of disease study 2019

Abstract:Background: The causes for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) are diverse and the incidence trends of IMIDs from specific causes are rarely studied. The study aims to investigate the pattern and trend of IMIDs from 1990 to 2019. Methods: We collected detailed information on six major causes of IMIDs, including asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis, between 1990 and 2019, derived from the Global Burden of Disease study in 2019. The average annual percent change (AAPC) in number of incidents and age standardized incidence rate (ASR) on IMIDs, by sex, age, region, and causes, were calculated to quantify the temporal trends. Findings: In 2019, rheumatoid arthritis, atopic dermatitis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease accounted 1.59%, 36.17%, 54.71%, 0.09%, 6.84%, 0.60% of overall new IMIDs cases, respectively. The ASR of IMIDs showed substantial regional and global variation with the highest in High SDI region, High-income North America, and United States of America. Throughout human lifespan, the age distribution of incident cases from six IMIDs was quite different. Globally, incident cases of IMIDs increased with an AAPC of 0.68 and the ASR decreased with an AAPC of -0.34 from 1990 to 2019. The incident cases increased across six IMIDs, the ASR of rheumatoid arthritis increased (0.21, 95% CI 0.18, 0.25), while the ASR of asthma (AAPC = -0.41), inflammatory bowel disease (AAPC = -0.72), multiple sclerosis (AAPC = -0.26), psoriasis (AAPC = -0.77), and atopic dermatitis (AAPC = -0.15) decreased. The ASR of overall and six individual IMID increased with SDI at regional and global level. Countries with higher ASR in 1990 experienced a more rapid decrease in ASR. Interpretation: The incidence patterns of IMIDs varied considerably across the world. Innovative prevention and integrative management strategy are urgently needed to mitigate the increasing ASR of rheumatoid arthritis and upsurging new cases of other five IMIDs, respectively. The Burden of Rheumatoid Arthritis: Findings from the 2019 Global Burden of Diseases Study and Forecasts for 2030 by Bayesian Age-Period-Cohort Analysis

Abstract:Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a key health issue worldwide. Due to early identification and effective treatment strategies, the disease pattern of RA has also changed. However, the most comprehensive and up-to-date information about the burden of RA and its trends in subsequent years is lacking. Objective: this study aimed to report the global burden of RA by sex, age, region, and forecast for 2030. Method: Publicly available data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 were used in this study. The trends in the prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of RA from 1990 to 2019 were reported. The global burden of RA in 2019 was reported by a sex, age, and sociodemographic index (SDI). Finally, the trends in the following years were predicted by Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) models. Results: Globally, the age-standardized prevalence rate increased from 207.46 (95% UI:189.99 to 226.95) in 1990 to 224.25 (95% UI: 204.94 to 245.99) in 2019, with an estimated annual percent change (EAPC) of 0.37% (95% CI: 0.32 to 0.42). Regarding the incidence, the age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) increased from 12.21 (95% UI: 11.13 to 13.38) to 13 (95% UI: 11.83 to 14.27) per 100,000 people from 1990 to 2019, with an EAPC of 0.3% (95% CI: 11.83 to 14.27). The age-standardized DALY rate also increased from 39.12 (95% UI: 30.13 to 48.56) per 100,000 people in 1990 to 39.57 (95% UI: 30.51 to 49.53) in 2019, with an EAPC of 0.12% (95% CI: 0.08% to 0.17%). There was no significant association between the SDI and ASR when the SDI was lower than 0.7, while there was a positive association between the SDI and ASR when the SDI was higher than 0.7 The BAPC analysis showed that the ASR was estimated to be up to 18.23 in females and approximately 8.34 per 100,000 people in males by 2030. Conclusion: RA is still a key public health issue worldwide. The global burden of RA has increased over the past decades and will continue to increase in the coming years, and much more attention should be given to early diagnosis and treatment to reduce the burden of RA.

Abstract:Abstract Background The long-term and future trends in gout burden have rarely been reported. We aimed to analyze the trends in gout-related burden from 1990 to 2019 and forecast the trends from 2020 to 2050. Methods We extracted data on incidence cases, age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs), disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) and age-standardized DALY rates, and calculated age-specific age-standardized rate (ASR). We also calculated the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) to quantify trends in gout-related incidence and DALYs. The ASIRs and age-standardized DALY rates were predicted to 2050 using the Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model. The 95% uncertainty interval (UI) were calculated for all the estimates. Result Persistent increasing trends in gout-related ASIRs and the age-standardized DALY rates were observed from 1990 to 2019.The trends will remain increasing until in 2050. High BMI played a more vital role in causing gout in both younger and middle-aged group, while gout in older-aged was more often caused by the kidney disfunction. Moreover, group 65 and over years old were more susceptible to gout, and males were more likely to suffer from gout than females. Conclusion Gout-related both the ASIRs and the age-standardized DALY rates are expected to increase in most regions by 2050.Thus, gout remains a worldwide public health challenge, especially in high SDI countries, where more attention and health project services are needed. Given the differences on burden of gout, future successful interventions should be based on country-, age- and sex-specific distributions so as to reduce the burden of gout.
Global trends in the incidence of psoriasis from 1990 to 2019

Abstract:BackgroundThe global, regional, and national burden of psoriasis was investigated based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.ObjectivesTo report the incidence of psoriasis in 204 countries and territories from 21 regions according to age, sex, region, country, and social-demographic index (SDI) between 1990 and 2019.Materials & MethodsEstimates from the GBD 2019 study were used to analyse the incidence of psoriasis at the global, regional, and national levels. The estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) in the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) were calculated to quantify trends between 1990 and 2019.ResultsFrom 1990 to 2019, the global incidence of psoriasis increased by 26.53%, but the ASIR of psoriasis decreased, with an EAPC of −0.77 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −0.78 to −0.76). In 2019, the highest ASIRs of psoriasis (112.58 per 100,000 population; 95% uncertainty interval, 108.89 to 116.07) were observed in high-SDI regions. The male-to-female ratio for psoriasis incidence peaked globally in the 50–54-year-old age group and peaked in the 75–79-year-old age group in high-SDI regions. Regionally, Central Sub-Saharan Africa (EAPC, −0.57; 95% CI: −0.67 to −0.48) and Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa (EAPC, −0.36; 95% CI, −0.38 to −0.34) had the largest decrease in ASIR of psoriasis from 1990 to 2019. Nationally, increases in the ASIR of psoriasis was observed only in Japan (EAPC, 0.04; 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.05).ConclusionGlobally, the incidence of psoriasis showed an increasing trend, but the ASIR of psoriasis decreased significantly from 1990 to 2019. Only Japan showed an unfavourable increasing trend.

Trends and future projections of incidence rate and mortality of rheumatoid arthritis in China: a systematic analysis based on GBD 2021 data

Abstract:This study aims to evaluate the trends in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in China from 1990 to 2021 by analyzing data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 study and to predict the trends for the next 25 years. Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR) and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) were calculated, and the estimated annual percentage change was used to illustrate differences in age distribution among various populations. Age-period-cohort (APC) analysis and Bayesian APC (BAPC) models were employed to forecast the burden of RA in China from 2022 to 2046. From 1990 to 2021, the ASIR of RA in China increased from 11.6 to 13.7, with a significantly higher ASIR in females than in males. Despite the increase in incidence, the ASMR related to RA decreased from 0.7 to 0.5. Predictions using the BAPC model indicate that the incidence of RA will continue to rise, with an expected ASIR of approximately 16.4 by 2046, and the total number of RA cases is projected to reach around 342,000. In terms of mortality, the ASMR is expected to decline to 0.3 by 2046, although the total number of deaths might reach about 40,000. The incidence of RA in China has significantly increased over the past 30 years. Although the incidence rate and the total number of RA cases may continue to rise in the future, the mortality rate of RA has been consistently declining.

Global, regional and national burden of rheumatoid arthritis, and attributable risk factors from 1990 to 2019: update from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study

Abstract:Objectives: Statistical data on the incidence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and burden of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and associated risk factors are essential for the development of effective treatment options. The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study provides a unique opportunity to evaluate the aforementioned parameters. Methods: The RA incidence rate, age-standardised incidence rate (ASR), DALYs and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) between 1990 and 2019 were evaluated, using data from 204 territories and countries from the GBD 2019. Risk factors associated with DALYs in patients with RA were estimated using the comparative risk assessment framework of the GBD study. Results: The results of the present study demonstrated that the incidence of RA increased from 567,462.89 to 1,074,390.80 cases, with an ASR of 13/100,000 patients between 1990 and 2019. The number of RA cases and DALYs were increased in all socio-demographic index quintiles during the study period. A significant negative association was found between EAPCs and age-standardised DALYs per 100,000 (ρ= -0.60; p<0.001). Notably, females exhibited an increased ASRs and DALYs than males, at both global and regional levels during the study period. Globally, age-standardised DALYs increased in an age-dependent manner, with the highest rate in the 60-69 years age group. Moreover, smoking was the predominant contributor to RA-associated DALYs for males worldwide, and this trend decreased from 1990 to 2019. Conclusions: The incidence rate of RA and associated DALYs are increasing worldwide, particularly among female patients. This trend is expected to increase, due an ageing population. Notably, smoking remained the predominant risk factor for RA-associated DALYs in males. Therefore, further investigations into the impact of smoking, and improvements in early diagnosis and treatment strategies for RA are required to reduce the global burden of RA.

Abstract:Objective To assess cause-specific incidence and its trend of musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders at global, regional and national levels. Methods Data on MSK disorders were downloaded from the Global Burden of Disease 2017 study website. Estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) was calculated to quantify the temporal trend in age-standardised incidence rate (ASR) of MSK disorders, by age, sex, region and cause. Results Between 1990 and 2017 incident cases of MSK disorders increased globally by 58% from 211.80 million to 334.74 million, with a decreasing ASR of 0.18% annually (95% CI −0.21% to −0.15%). The ASR decreased for low back pain (LBP), remained stable for neck pain (NP), and increased for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), osteoarthritis (OA) and gout, with EAPCs (95% CI) of −0.24 (−0.29 to –0.20), −0.09 (−0.13 to −0.05), 0.36 (0.28 to 0.43), 0.32 (0.28 to 0.36) and 0.22 (0.21 to 0.23), respectively. It appears women have higher increase in EAPC than men for RA (1.3 times) and gout (1.6 times). The absolute EAPC was strikingly high in high or high-middle sociodemographic index (SDI) regions for overall, LBP and gout, and in low SDI regions for NP. EAPC was significantly associated with baseline ASR for LBP (nonlinear), RA (ρ=−0.41) and gout (ρ=−0.42), also with 2017 human development index for LBP (ρ=−0.53) and gout (ρ=0.15). Conclusions Globally, MSK disorders remain a public health burden. The ASR is decreasing for MSK disorders overall, mainly in high-middle SDI regions, but increasing for RA, OA and gout.

Abstract:Background: To determine the global burden of psoriasis in young adults, i.e., those aged 15–49, from 1990 to 2019 and predict trends in this burden for 2020 to 2030 Methods: Age-standardized disease burden indicators and their estimated annual percentage changes were assessed and used to compare the estimated burden between regions. In addition, generalized additive models were used to predict the burden in this population from 2020 to 2030. Results: From 1990 to 2019, the overall burden of psoriasis in young adults worldwide trended downward, as the age-standardized incidence rate and the age-standardized disability-adjusted life year rate decreased. From 1990 to 2019, there were gender differences in the burden of psoriasis between regions with different Socio-demographic index. Specifically, there was a smaller increase in the burden in young men than in young women in middle- and low–middle-Socio-demographic index areas. In 2019, Western Europe, Australasia, and Southern Latin America had the highest age-standardized incidence rate of psoriasis in young adults, whereas age-standardized disability-adjusted life year rates of psoriasis in young adults were highest in high-income North America. In 2019, the psoriasis burden in young adults was the highest in high-Socio-demographic index areas and the lowest in low-Socio-demographic index regions. We predict that from 2020 to 2030, the incidence rate and disability-adjusted life year rate of psoriasis in all age groups of young adults will continue to decline, but the burden in those aged 30–39 will increase. Conclusion: From 1990 to 2019, the overall burden of psoriasis in each age group trended downward in this period. We predict that from 2020 to 2030, the burden of psoriasis in those aged 30–39 will increase.

Global burden of rheumatoid arthritis among adolescents and young adults aged 10–24 years: A trend analysis study from 1990 to 2019

Abstract:In recent decades, there has been a global increase in the burden of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) among adolescents and young adults (AYAs), making it a significant public health issue. However, our understanding of the disease burden, harm, and influencing factors of RA in this population remains insufficient. This study aimed to assess the trends in RA burden among AYAs aged 10–24 years from 1990 to 2019 at the global, regional, and national levels. Incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate per 100,000 population, as well as average annual percentage changes (AAPCs), of RA among individuals aged 10–24 years were reported globally, regionally, and nationally based on the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019 (GBD 2019). These global trends were further analyzed by age, sex, and Sociodemographic index (SDI). Joinpoint regression analysis was used to determine the year in which the most significant changes in global trends occurred. Globally, the incidence of RA among AYAs increased from 4.98 per 100,000 population in 1990 to 5.41 per 100,000 population in 2019, with an AAPCs of 0.29 (95%CI: 0.26, 0.32, p < 0.001). The most significant increase occurred in 2000, while the most significant decrease occurred in 2014. The prevalence increased from 34.11 per 100,000 population in 1990 to 36.34 per 100,000 population in 2019, with an AAPCs of 0.22 (95%CI: 0.19, 0.24, p<0.001); The most significant increase was observed in 2000, and the most significant decrease occurred in 2014. DALYs rate with RA were 5.96 per 100,000 population in 1990 and 5.79 per 100,000 population in 2019 for AYAs, with an average decrease of 0.1 years per year (AAPCs = -0.1, 95%CI: -0.2, -0.01, p = 0.04). In terms of gender, the incidence, prevalence, and DALYs rate were higher for females compared to males during the same period. Regarding age, the incidence, prevalence, and DALYs rate increased with increasing age. Based on the SDI quintile, the incidence, prevalence, and DALYs rate of RA were highest in countries with high SDI and lowest in countries with low SDI from 1990 to 2019. However, the relationship between incidence and SDI is non-linear. In terms of regions, Tropical Latin America exhibited the highest incidence, prevalence, and DALYs rate, while Andean Latin America experienced the most rapid increase in incidence and prevalence. Southern Latin America saw the fastest growth in DALYs rate, whereas Southern Sub-Saharan Africa witnessed the most significant decline. In conclusion, the study revealed an overall increase in the incidence and prevalence of RA among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) over the past three decades, while DALYs rate remained relatively stable. Furthermore, the incidence, prevalence, and DALYs rate of RA were found to increase with age. Fortunately, recent proactive preventive measures and treatment methods have shown promising results. Moving forward, it is crucial to prioritize the female population and AYAs patients in order to further alleviate the global burden of RA.

Abstract:Background Atopic dermatitis (AD) has the highest disease burden among all skin diseases. However, reports on AD prevalence trends in China are limited. This study aimed to investigate the time trends of AD prevalence in China from 1990 to 2021 and to explore the age and sex differences. Methods Data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study, 2021. We analyzed the annual percentage change in the crude prevalence rate and age‐standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) of AD from 1990 to 2021 using the Joinpoint model. We predicted the future prevalence of AD from 2022 to 2030 using the Bayesian age–period–cohort model. Results The total ASPR decreased slightly from 1990 (1357.93 per 100,000) to 2021 (1347.11 per 100,000). The ASPR of females (1457.64 per 100,000) was higher than that of males (1247.04 per 100,000) in 2021. The prevalence rate of AD was highest in the under 5 years old age group (3455.56 per 100,000) and the 5–9 years old age group (3360.31 per 100,000). By 2030, the predicted ASPR of AD will be 1394.36 (per 100,000) in males and 1603.69 in females (per 100,000). The predicted prevalence rate in the under 5 years old (3996.14 per 100,000 in males and 3990.68 per 100,000 in females) and 5–9 years old (3714.61 per 100,000 in males and 3963.96 per 100,000 in females) age groups will be higher than those in other age groups. Conclusion Despite a slight decrease from 1990 to 2021, there has been an increasing trend since 2015 in the total AD burden. Given the increasing burden of AD on Chinese children and females, healthcare practitioners should enhance community education, improve disease management abilities of patients and caregivers, and reduce the burden and healthcare costs of AD.
