Development and Validation of Religious Sectarian Intolerance Scale for Muslim Adults in Pakistan

Abstract:Religious sectarian intolerance occurs when members of different religious sects within a faith are unable to tolerate the religious beliefs and practices of each resulting in bigotry and prejudice toward each other. The present research sought to develop a psychometrically sound measure of religious sectarian intolerance for Muslim adults. The research comprised two studies. Study I involved the development of an initial item pool for the Religious Sectarian Intolerance Scale (RSIS). The initial pool of items was based on thematic analysis from focus group discussions. This item pool was reviewed by a committee of experts resulting in a 39-item initial draft of the RSIS, which was administered to a purposive sample of Pakistani Muslim adults (N = 270). The exploratory factor analysis revealed a four-factor structure for the RSIS (with loadings ranging from 0.56 to 0.94) that explained 62% of the variance. The factors include dogmatic loyalty (9 items), social intolerance (13 items), renunciation of other religious Sects. (8 items), and propagation of one's Sect. (9 items). All factors were moderately related to each other with acceptable Cronbach's alpha (.78 to .92). Study II replicated the factorial structure of RSIS through confirmatory factor analysis on an independent sample of Muslim adults (N = 274). The convergent validity of the RSIS was demonstrated by a positive relationship with dogmatism. Overall, the findings indicated that the RSIS is a psychometrically sound measure that provides a standard operationalization for religious sectarian intolerance in Muslim cultures and it needs to be studied further in Muslim populations across the globe.

Abstract:Akhlāq is one of the vital parts of Islamic teachings, which includes guidelines and moral teachings that direct the moral behavior of Muslims toward Allah, oneself, and others. However, this vital part has received the least attention in measurement. Therefore, the present study aims to develop and validate the Akhlāq scale to measure Akhlāq among Muslim adults. The scale development process included an extensive review of Islamic literature, that is, The Quran and Hadiths, for the identification of dimensions, item generation, and establishing psychometric properties of newly constructed scale through exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, reliability, and validity analysis. After exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were completed, the final scale retained four dimensions of Akhlāq: Akhlāq toward Allah, Akhlāq toward oneself, Akhlāq toward others—caring, and Akhlāq toward others—interactions. The psychometric properties of the Akhlāq scale were effectively established, demonstrating that the new measure is a valid and reliable indicator of Akhlāq for Muslim adults.

Construction and Validation of the Belief in Divine Retribution Scale for Pakistani Muslims

Abstract:The purpose of the study was to construct and validate a Belief in Divine Retribution Scale for the Pakistani Muslim population. The process of construction and validation was completed by following standardized guidelines for scale construction (Boateng et al., 2018). The present study was carried out in four phases. In phase I, the task of item generation was completed through literature review and interviews (inductive and deductive approaches). Phase II aimed at exploration of factor structure. Exploratory factor analysis was carried out on a sample of seven hundred Muslim participants. Data for EFA were collected through a purposive sampling technique, which comprised both men ( n = 339) and women ( n = 361) with an age range of 18 to 69 years. Results of EFA revealed a two-factor structure with a cumulative variance of 42.59 and with a Cronbach alpha reliability of .83. To confirm the obtained factor structure, Phase III was carried out on a sample of three hundred Muslim participants. The results of CFA confirmed the two-dimensional factor structure with a good model fit to the data. Phase IV provided evidence of convergent and discriminant validity of the scale. Moreover, data for validation were collected from an independent sample ( N = 204). Finally, the results of validation revealed that there exists a significant positive correlation of Belief in Divine Retribution Scale with Belief in Just World Scale, which provided evidence of convergent validity. However, there exists a non-significant correlation of Belief in Divine Retribution Scale with Religious Practice Subscale of Short Muslim Practice and Belief Scale, and it provided evidence of discriminant validity. Implications along with limitations and suggestions for future research have also been mentioned.

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of this paper is to highlight the indigenous need to counter self-harm behavior in Pakistan and establish the reliability and validity of scale with translation, adaptation and cross-language validation of the inventory of statements about self-injury (ISAS) for future health studies (Klonsky and Glenn, 2009). Design/methodology/approach The present study was a cross-sectional study using a quantitative method. Response items rating is made from three-point Likert-type scales ranging from the 0-not relevant, 1-somewhat relevant or 2-very relevant. ISAS has been comprised of 13 potential functions of deliberate self-harm (DSH) and all subscales have been translated from the English language into the Urdu language with a sample of 30 individuals and further applied on 200 samples of DSH patients for factorial validation. The standard back-translation method was used for translation and adaptation of the scale (Anderson and Brislin, 1976; Brislin, 1976; Hambleton, 1994). Findings The overall scale has good internal consistency reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to confirm the factorial validity of ISAS. Results revealed that all the items have confirmed strong factorial validity in the context of Pakistani culture and quite helpful in hospital settings to address this health issue. Originality/value Self-harm is considered as a major health issue in the young population of the world and therefore, the investigated scale provides an assessment of DSH and intentions of performing self-injury to achieve a better understanding of such behaviors in DSH patients, which will help further to develop measures to prevent such behavior.

Abstract:Background: Criminal aptitude testing benefits police and other fields of law enforcement. Earlier literature lacked an Urdu-language scale for criminal aptitude. Objectives: The present study developed and validated a new scale to measure criminal aptitude in Urdu speakers. Methods: The development and validation of the Criminal Aptitude Inventory (CAI) unfolded across three distinct phases, involving a total of 1675 participants (51.34% women), including convicted prisoners (37.33%). In the initial phase, the CAI underwent development and preliminary validation through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Subsequently, the second phase utilized Confirmatory Factor Analysis to further confirm the scale's validity. The third phase focused on analyzing the CAI's convergent and discriminant validity by investigating its relationship with antisocial personality disorder, morality, religiosity, and spirituality. Results: The results demonstrated high reliability and validity of the CAI, affirming its suitability for future applications. The final version of the scale comprises a single factor and consists of 36 items, each utilizing a 5-point Likert-type response format. Indicators such as Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin's values (0.984), Cronbach’s alpha (0.984), average item-total correlation (P < 0.001), comparative fit index (0.936), Tucker-Lewis Index (0.932), Goodness of Fit Index (GFI=.939), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA = 0.043), convergent validity with antisocial personality disorder (r = 0.458; P < 0.01), and discriminant validity with morality (r = -0.396; P < 0.01), religiosity (r = -.318; P < 0.01), and spirituality (r = -.453; P < 0.01) established the reliability and validity of the CAI. Conclusions: The dual-source data collection strategy employed in this study, drawing from both convicted prisoners and the general population, enhances and operationalizes the scale. This approach ensures its applicability across diverse Urdu-speaking communities in Pakistan and India.

Abstract:Background: Meta-analytic findings documented a substantial impact of self-esteem on a broad range of psychological and behavioral indicators, thus highlighting its high clinical relevance. Proving a simple and cost-effective measure of global self-esteem to the Arabic-speaking community, who mostly live in low- and middle-income countries, and where research may be challenging, would be highly valuable. In this context, we sought to investigate the psychometric characteristics of an Arabic translation of the Single-Item Self-Esteem Scale (A-SISE) in terms of factor structure, reliability, and construct validity. Methods: A total of 451 participants were enrolled between October and December 2022. An anonymous self-administered Google Forms link was shared on WhatsApp. To examine the factor structure of the A-SISE, we used the FACTOR software. We conducted an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), using a principal component analysis on the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) items first, then after adding the A-SISE. Results: The results of the EFA of the RSES revealed two factors (F1 = negatively-worded items; F2 = positively-worded items), which explained 60.63% of the common variance. When adding the A-SISE, the two-factor solution obtained explained 58.74% of the variance, with the A-SISE loading on the second factor. Both RSES and A-SISE correlated significantly and positively with each other, as well as with extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, open mindedness and satisfaction with life. Moreover, they correlated significantly and negatively with negative emotionality and depression. Conclusion: These results suggest that the A-SISE is a simple-to-use, cost-effective, valid and reliable measure of self-esteem. We thus recommend its use in future research among Arabic-speaking people in Arab clinical and research settings, particularly when researchers are limited by time or resources constraints.
Construction and Validation of Institutional Identity Scale for University Students

Abstract:The current study presents the validation process of a measure of institutional identity for university students. The research is composed of two studies. Study I consisted of the generation of an item pool based on the literature review, semi-structured interviews, and expert opinion, which were administered to a convenient sample of university students (n = 707; 300 males and 407 females) in Pakistan. Exploratory factor analysis yielded a two-factor structure with 20 items, and the factors were named commitment (α = 0.84) and crisis (α = 0.74). The two-factor solution was confirmed through confirmatory factor analysis, which revealed an excellent model fit with the two-factor structure. Study II reports on the convergent and divergent validity of the scale which was carried out on an independent sample (n = 120). Results provided evidence of convergent validity as depression correlated negatively with the commitment subscale and positively with the crisis subscale. Divergent validity was ensured by a non-significant correlation between the subscales of the newly developed scale and a measure of religious belief. Moreover, the implications and limitations of the study are discussed.
Examining scientific attitude scales in India: Development and validation of a new scale

Abstract:In India a multitude of scientific attitude scales are available through various channels. The scales are standardized under local settings and most of the Indian researchers utilize these national level scales for the assessment of scientific attitudes. In this work 23 such Indian scales are reviewed over their psychometric properties. The study showed that most of the scales lack theoretical foundations and psychometric evidences. A scale by Bajwa & Mahajan (2012) is selected over its appropriate theoretical background. But many of the items are inappropriate, they failed in the validity check-up through 11-experts and 218-student tryout. Thus, a new scale is developed by retaining some of the items of the scale. The developed scale is standardized and validated through 200, 312 and 641 student tryouts. All statements in the developed scale show high item to scale correlation values. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) confirms the five sub-scales namely rationality, curiosity, open-mindedness, aversion to superstition and confidence in scientific method. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient value of the scale is high i.e. 0.79. The scale establishes its content, construct, concurrent and discriminant validities. This study results in to a valid scientific attitude scale that can be utilized in further researches.
Reliability and validity estimation of Urdu version of Children Emotion Management Scales (CEMS) in Pakistan

Abstract:Introduction: The present study aimed to translate and validate Children's Emotion Management Scales into Urdu, the national language of Pakistan. Method: The current study comprised three different phases, i.e., phase I: Cross-language validation over a sample of ( N = 169) school children, estimated at a 1-week interval. Results: The results indicate a significant correlation ( r = 0.846–0.891) at p < 0.01. In phase II, the internal consistency reliability ( r = 0.808–0.904) and split-half reliability ( r = 0.737–0.898) of the scale were assessed ( N = 683) at p < 0.01. Furthermore, significant results for test-retest reliability analysis ( N = 168) were obtained ( r = 0.736–0.917 at p < 0.01), following the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) ( N = 1,083). Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was conducted on the same sample chosen for CFA. EFA resulted in the retention of original inhibition (INH), dysregulated expression (DYS), and emotional coping (EMO) factors. CFA findings suggest a good model fit. In phase III, convergent validity and divergent validity were checked ( N = 385, 255, and 213). Convergent validity of INH and DYS subscales and divergent validity of EMO subscales were established, with SBI ( r = 0.217–0.609; 0.210–0.445; −0.026 to −0.553), SHS ( r = 0.417–0.441; 0.480–0.546; −0.338 to −0.582), and suppression subscale of ERQ ( r = 0.430–0.480; 0.468–0.522; −0.245 to −0.369) at p < 0.01. For divergent validity of INH and DYS subscales and convergent validity of EMO subscales, their scores were correlated with the SPS ( r = −0.204 to −0.350; −0.318 to −0.459; 0.191–0.531), RSE Scale ( r = −0.226 to −0.351; −0.279 to −0.352; 0.255–0.507), DTS (−0.290 to −0.617; −0.369 to −0.456; 0.246–0.680), and reappraisal subscale of ERQ ( r = −0.456 to −0.541; −0.329 to −0.544; 0.446–0.601) at p < 0.01. Discussion: It is concluded that the scale is reliable and valid with sound psychometric properties.

Translation and Validation of Social Media Addiction Scale for Students

Abstract:The focus of the current study was to translate and Validate Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) into Urdu. Study was based to establish the psychometric properties of SMAS in Pakistani Culture. Translation and Adoption were accomplished with forward and backward translation method for SMAS. After that it was scientifically pre-tested to validate its constructs and it was found significant. In pre- testing, minimum rating for the equivalence of both English and Urdu version of SMAS with Mean 84.8 and standard deviation 12.617. In the next step, adapted Urdu version was administered on the sample of large population of 516 students with age between 15 to 22 years using purposive sampling technique (M = 81.70 and SD = 15.666). Cronbach’s alpha, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were computed by using SPSS software (version .25) and AMOS software (version .21). Results showed that Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.87. The item total correlation of Urdu SMAS was greater than 0.3. Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis done to check the number of factors in SMAS. The EFA extracted four factors for SMAS Urdu version. After testing the four-factor model in CFA, the analysis showed good fitness indexes (comparative fit index = 0.95; goodness of fit index = 0.97). SAAS Urdu version has high internal consistency and reliability and can be used for research and evaluation objectives in clinical settings in Pakistani society.
Psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2) in a sample of community adults

Abstract:Background: There is a growing attention on intuitive eating (IE) styles in the Western world that has not yet reached Arab countries, which is likely due to the lack of psychometrically sound measures of the IE construct for Arabic-speaking people. The current study aims to examine the psychometric properties of an Arabic translation of the most widely used measure of IE-the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2), in an Arabic-speaking community population from Lebanon. Methods: Two samples of Arabic-speaking community adults from Lebanon (sample 1: n = 359, 59.9% females, age 22.75 ± 7.04 years; sample 2: n = 444, 72.7% females, age 27.25 ± 9.53 years) were recruited through online convenience sampling. The translation and back-translation method was applied to the IES-2 for linguistic validation. Factorial validity was investigated using an Exploratory Factor Analysis & Confirmatory Factor Analysis strategy. Composite reliability and sex invariance were examined. We also tested convergent and criterion-related validity through correlations with other theoretically plausible constructs. Results: Nine out of the original 23 items were removed because they either loaded below 0.40 and/or cross-loaded too highly on multiple factors. This resulted in four domains (Unconditional Permission to Eat, Eating for Physical Rather than Emotional Reasons, Reliance on Hunger and Satiety Cues, and Body-Food Choice Congruence) and 14 items retained. Internal reliability estimates were excellent, with McDonald's ω values ranging from 0.828 to 0.923 for the four factors. Multigroup analysis established configural, thresholds, metric, scalar, strict invariance across gender. Finally, higher IES-2 total scores were significantly correlated with lower body dissatisfaction scores and more positive eating attitudes, thus attesting to convergent and criterion-related validity of the scale. Conclusions: The current findings provide preliminary evidence for the appropriate psychometric qualities of the Arabic 14-item, four-factor structure IES-2; thereby supporting its use at least among Arabic-speaking community adults.
Psychometric evaluation of the Arabic version of the Irish Assertiveness Scale among Saudi undergraduate nursing students and interns

Abstract:Background: Irish Assertiveness Scale is commonly used to examine the individual' level of assertiveness. There is no adequately validated Arabic instrument that examines the level of assertiveness among Arabic-speaking undergraduate nursing students. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to translate, then evaluate the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Irish Assertiveness Scale among Saudi undergraduate nursing students and interns. Design: Cross-sectional survey. Settings: Three nursing colleges from three provinces in Saudi Arabia: Riyadh, Eastern and Makkah provinces. Participants: 283 questionnaires were completed by 3rd and 4th year undergraduate nursing students, and nursing interns. Methods: A standard procedure including forward-backward translation, cultural adaptation and pilot testing was adopted to translate the Irish Assertiveness Scale into Arabic language. Content validity was measured using content validity index. Scale reliability was measured using cronbach's alpha coefficient and mean inter-item correlation. The sample was randomly split, and exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was then conducted on each sample to examine the construct validity of the proposed scale. A subsequent convergent validity and discriminant validity were also tested. Results: The item-level content validity index ranged from 0.9 to 1.0, and the overall content validity index was 0.93. The exploratory factor analysis resulted in 23-items, four-factor solution explaining 49.4% of the total variance. The mean inter-item correlation for each factor ranged between 0.22 and 0.4. Cronbach's alpha coefficients for the overall scale was 0.80. The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the proposed four-factor solution had the best model fit. Whilst discriminant validity was supported in the new model, convergent validity was partially met. Conclusions: This study contributed toward establishing the Arabic version of the Irish Assertiveness Scale. Considering the limitations of the convergent validity demonstrated in the new instrument, a modified version of the Irish Assertiveness Scale might be needed to ascertain the most feasible model which best captures the level of assertiveness in Arabic cultural context.

Abstract:Objective: This research aimed to culturally adapt and validate the MIAS scale for Arabic-speaking individuals within the Saudi Arabian general population, with an emphasis on cultural, societal, and individual nuances. Methods: An initial pilot testing with a small group ensured the scale's clarity. Subsequently, two cross-sectional studies involving 189 participants to assess structural validity of the Arabic MIAS scale, and 38 participants to assess the test-retest reliability. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's α, Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were employed for data analysis. Results: The Arabic MIAS scale demonstrated good internal consistency and acceptable test-retest reliability (ICC α = 0.631). A three-factor model emerged (CFI = 0.890, TLI = 0.845, RMSEA = 0.094), including "Outcomes," "Negative Stereotypes," and "Recovery," closely mirroring the original study's structure. one item was excluded from the model since it didn't align with any of the three factors. Conclusion: The study contributes a culturally adapted, validated, non-condition-specific tool to gauge public attitudes toward mental health stigma in an Arabic context. It highlights the need for culturally sensitive stigma research and interventions and underscores the importance of improving such tools for cross-cultural applicability and comparability.

Abstract:Purpose This paper aims to develop and validate the scale for organizational decision-making behaviour related to ethical issues, which addresses the issue of framing the dependent variable in a dichotomous way in organizational ethical decision-making (EDM) models and complementing the inter-variable circular causality model within the purview of Islamic banking with Quranic orientations. Design/methodology/approach This study adopted both exploratory and confirmatory approaches. A total of 362 responses were collected from banking practitioners in the United Arab Emirates using a self-administered questionnaire. Content validity test (CVT) and factor analysis were used to refine measurement items and define as well as validate the scale, respectively. Further, the validated factors/scales were tested using the theoretical underpinning of the inter-variable circular causality model with Quranic orientations. Findings CVT refined the measurement items, and it enhanced the qualitative aspect of the proposed scale. Total three dimensions extracted, i.e. “awareness,” “attitude” and “standards” through exploratory factor analysis and evidence of validation of measurement scale/construct reported through confirmatory factor analysis. Further, a significant inter-variable circular causal relationship was found among the validated dimensions and analysed with an Islamic perspective. Research limitations/implications Study constraints the population into a single industry and a single country. Future studies are suggested to use the newly developed scale/construct in decision-making models and obtain the overall model fit by considering population from diversified organizations and multi countries. Practical implications Comprehensibility of organizational behaviour has always been critical for the efficient functioning of organizations, especially where the situation involves ethical concerns. The proposed scale can be used as a tool to assess the organizational decision-making behaviour related to ethical issues, particularly where the studies intended to examine the determinants of organizational decision-making behaviour related to ethical issues through decision-making models. Originality/value While there is ample literature attempted to examine the organizational EDM, particularly on evaluating determinants of EDM, the majority of the studies have failed to frame the dependent variable of the EDM models adopted for the study in such a manner that is in line with the objective of the study. Although some of the literature suggest the theoretical aspects to address this issue, to date, no work has been done that attempted to develop and validate the scale for the theoretical aspects recommended and confirm with the inter-variable circular causality model. These serve as justification for undertaking this study.
Confirmatory factor analysis and measurement invariance of the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) among Pakistani young adults

Abstract:Introduction The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) is recognized as being a widely used measure for the assessment of negative emotional states. While the DASS-21 has been widely used for assessing mental health in Pakistan, limited research has been done regarding its factor structure and measurement invariance. Objectives To assess the factor structure and measurement invariance of the DASS-21 among young adults in Pakistan. Methods A large sample of 1361 Pakistani young adults had completed the scale during the current study comprising 666 males and 695 females with a mean age of 24.51 years. Results Excellent internal consistency reliability was found for the overall DASS-21 and its three subscales (depression, anxiety and stress) ranging from r = .86 to .71 (Cronbach alpha). Moreover, the three subscales were strongly and significantly associated with one another. Additionally, the results showed a good fit of the three-factor model and the one-factor model of the DASS-21 aimed at assessing gender psychological distress. Strong measurement invariance was found regarding gender therefore showing that the DASS-21 is understood and interpreted similarly by males and females. However, little evidence was found regarding the three subscales (depression, anxiety and stress) for the measurement of three distinct constructs. Conclusions These findings confirm the utility of the DASS-21 for measuring mental health in Pakistan among young adults. Disclosure of Interest None Declared

Revisiting the concept of Islamic financial literacy in a boundaryless context: cross-country comparison of Islamic financial literacy

Abstract:Purpose There is a growing body of literature that recognizes the importance of Islamic financial literacy (IFL) while it is at the heart of our understanding of the overall financial system. To date, insufficient attention has been paid to Turkey, the Balkans and other potential Islamic finance hubs like Suriname. In fact, there have been no attempts to examine IFL in those regions or economies. The purpose of this paper is to test and validate the IFL scale developed by Dinc et al. (2021) in an international setting. By doing so, this study elaborates on possible antecedents and levels of IFL across countries and economic systems. Design/methodology/approach The design of the questionnaire used is based on the principles of Islamic finance and covers all the segments. The total number of collected observations is 3,579. This study uses the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to ascertain the factor structure and test the revised scale fit with the original form. Besides, IBM AMOS 25 Graphics is used for calculating the fit indexes for the scale. Findings The results from the CFA revealed that the scale has a good fit for its original and kept the four-dimensional structure. In addition, it also indicates that the predeveloped IFL scale is valid for different cultures, countries and individuals either having conventional or Islamic financial institutions preferences. Furthermore, results of empirical tests demonstrate that Turkey is significantly higher in Islamic financial awareness, whereas other countries' group is higher on all other subdimensions of the scale. On the other hand, female respondents indicate significantly higher levels of Islamic financial awareness, and male respondents show significantly higher levels of Islamic financial knowledge. Finally, the most prominent finding to emerge from the analysis is that the principles of Islamic finance are well accepted, except for some liberal views on the concept of "interest" (riba). Research limitations/implications Because of the diverse demography of the collected sample observations, this revised scale has a homogeneous set of implications. This IFL scale can accurately measure the level of IFL attained by an individual, group, society or nation, as well as suggest necessary actions based on its four-dimensional structure. Originality/value This study tests the IFL scale by considering two key elements: increased sample size and vast geographical coverage. To ensure that the developed scale is universal, this study took into account more than 3,000 observations from 28 different countries. These amendments ensure the uniqueness of this paper and its originality.
Cross-Language Validation and the Factor Structure of the Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire for Pakistani Adolescents

Abstract:Background. For the last few years, in the field of school education, social-emotional competencies have been gaining in importance because they result in positive attitudes and adaptation to school (Mella et al., 2021). Objective. The current study was designed to conduct Urdu translation, cross-language validation, and confirmatory factor analysis of the Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire (SECQ) for Pakistani adolescents. Design. Urdu translation was done using the standard back-translation method. The data for the main study was collected using a non-random sampling method for 910 adolescents who were between 10 to 17 years old. Results. The findings of the pilot study (n = 64) show that the Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire is a reliable questionnaire, as Cronbach’s alpha reliabilities of both versions (English and Urdu) were acceptable (Version 1 α = 0.77; Version 2 α = 0.77). After 15 days, the Pearson product-moment correlation was checked to meet the objective of cross-language validation, which resulted in a high correlation between the two forms (r = 0.88). The riginal author of the questionnaire had proposed a factor structure consisting of five factors, namely: self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, relationship management, and responsible decision-making. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in the present study also confirmed and supported the five-factor structure in comparison to other models for the Urdu version. Conclusion. The Social-Emotional Competence Questionnaire is a reliable and culturally-validated tool for adolescents attending school, which can be used in future research for measuring social-emotional competencies.

To fill this gap and help spark future research in this area in the Arab world, the current study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of an Arabic translation of the 27-item and the 13-item versions of the interpersonal Mindfulness Scale (IMS) in a sample of Arabic-speaking adolescents from the general population.

Abstract:The Pakistani Religious Coping Practices Scale was created to specifically record Muslim religious approaches to coping. A sample of 129 Pakistani university students responded to Urdu versions of this new instrument along with the Brief Religious Coping (RCOPE) Scale, single-item assessments of religious orientation and religious interest, and scales recording anxious, depressed, and hostile reactions to stress. The Pakistani Religious Coping Practices Scale and the two Brief RCOPE Scales correlated positively. The Brief RCOPE Negative Religious Coping scale predicted higher levels of all three symptoms of stress but was unrelated to religious motivation and interest. The new Muslim coping practices measure and the Positive Religious Coping scale were associated with higher levels of religious motivation and interest, and both also exhibited a negative relation with depression once the variance associated with Negative Religious Coping was removed. These data most importantly confirmed that the Pakistani Religious Coping Practices Scale and the Brief RCOPE were useful for examining how Pakistani Muslims cope with stress.
