Abstract:This study was conducted as a randomized controlled experimental trial with the aim of determining the effect of acupressure on menopausal symptoms and quality of life in postmenopausal women, as well as the correlation between the two. This randomized controlled experimental study was conducted between May and November 2021 with women coming to a Menopause School in Turkey. A Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Menopause Rating Scale, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale Short Form were used to collect data. The study was performed with 61 patients in an acupressure group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 31). Acupressure was performed on the acupressure group in 30-minute sessions 3 times a week for 4 weeks, a total of 12 sessions. No intervention was performed on the control group. When the groups were compared, it was seen that the menopause symptom scores of the acupressure group were lower than those of the control group, and that their quality of life scores in the bodily and psychological areas were higher (P < .05). When within group comparisons were considered, it was seen that menopause symptoms declined over time in the acupressure group, and the scores of all dimensions of quality of life increased (P < .05). It was found that acupressure applied to women during menopause may reduce menopause symptoms and may improve their quality of life.
The effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction program applied to postmenopausal women on insomnia and quality of life

Abstract:This study aimed to determine the effect of the mindfulness-based stress reduction program applied to postmenopausal women on insomnia and quality of life. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 151 postmenopausal women, including 73 in the experimental group and 78 in the control group. In the study, the mindfulness-based stress reduction program (MBSR) was applied to the women in the experimental group for eight weeks, and then the women repeated the program individually for another eight weeks. The second measurement data were collected eight weeks after the collection of the first measurement data, and the third measurement data were collected 16 weeks later. The mean score obtained from the second measurement application of the Women's Health Initiative Insomnia Rating Scale (WHIIRS) was lower in the experimental group than in the control group (p < .05). In addition, the mean scores from the second and third measurement applications of the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (MENQOL) were lower in the experimental group than in the control group (p < .05). The MBSR program reduced postmenopausal women's insomnia and improved their quality of life. This program can be used safely to treat insomnia and improve the quality of life of postmenopausal women. Abstract:This experimental study aimed to determine the effects of online laughter yoga on the sleep quality and vasomotor symptoms (VMS) of menopausal women through a prospective, randomized controlled trial. About 36 women who attend the Menopause School were randomized into either the laughter yoga (n = 18) or the control group (n = 18). The laughter yoga group participated in eight online laughter yoga sessions, with two sessions per week for four weeks, whereas the control group did not receive any intervention. Data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The laughter yoga group had significantly lower posttest VAS scores compared with the control group in all VMS ( P < .05). Furthermore, the posttest PSQI score of the laughter yoga group was significantly lower than that of the control group ( P < .05). Although there was no significant difference in the pretest and posttest scores obtained by the control group from the VAS and PSQI ( P > .05), the intervention group exhibited a statistically significant difference in their pretest and posttest VAS and PSQI scores ( P < .05; P < .001, respectively). The results indicate that laughter yoga is an effective method for reducing VMS and improving sleep quality.

Abstract:The research was conducted as a randomized controlled study with the aim of determining the effect of yoga on menopause symptoms. Menopausal women between the ages of 40 and 60 years were included in the research. There were 31 menopausal women in each of 2 groups, making a total of 62. A Descriptive Characteristics Form and the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) were used to collect data. In the research, the yoga group practiced yoga for 60 minutes twice a week for 10 weeks. In the final lesson of the 10 weeks of yoga training, the women were again given the MRS. No intervention was performed on the control group. The median score on the MRS of the women in the yoga group was 16 (11-21) in the pretest, and 5 (3-9) in the posttest ( P < .05). The median score on the subscale of psychological complaints of the women in the yoga group was 6 (3-8) in the pretest, and 1 (1-2) in the posttest ( P < .05). The median score on the subscale of urogenital complaints of the women in the yoga group was 3 (3-5) in the pretest, and 1 (0-2) in the posttest ( P < .05). The median score on the subscale of somatic complaints of the women in the yoga group was 7 (4-10) in the pretest, and 1 (1-3) in the posttest ( P < .05). It was concluded from the research that 60 minutes of yoga 2 days a week for 10 weeks may reduce the psychological, somatic, and urogenital symptoms experienced in menopause.

Abstract:Midlife women often experience menopausal symptoms despite being treated according to clinical guidelines. The consequences of not addressing menopausal symptoms holistically are that 55% of women see primary care providers frequently with menopausal symptom complaints. The problem was women's lack of coping strategies to deal with their symptoms effectively. The interventions aimed to (1) develop a protocol to provide point-of-care mindfulness-based meditation intervention as a standard of care, (2) evaluate improvements in coping self-efficacy skills, and (3) demonstrate the intervention's impact on menopausal symptoms. Twenty women participated in a short meditation intervention at a micro practice in Oregon from January to May 2022 and continued an 8-week home practice. Self-reported measures of menopausal symptoms, coping self-efficacy, and demographic data were collected pre- and pos-tprogram. A percentage of women determined improvements, and t tests evaluated differences between pre-and postintervention assessments. Pearson correlation coefficients identified associations between the Menopausal Rating Scale (MRS), its subscales, and the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES) postintervention. The women showed 78% improved coping self-efficacy and 89% alleviated menopausal symptoms. The t test revealed a statistically significant change between pre- and post-CSES scores ( t 17 = 4.19, P < .001) and MRS scores ( t 17 = 4.78, P < .001). The post-MRS total score was significantly negatively correlated with the post-CSES score ( r = −0.49, P = .039), indicating that symptoms decreased as self-efficacy improved. The outcomes of this project show that menopausal women can cope and alleviate their symptoms with an easy and feasible mindfulness-based meditation intervention.

Abstract:Regulatory molecular networks have numerous pharmacological and medical applications. The oscillatory mechanisms and the role of oscillations in these regulatory networks are not fully understood. In this paper, we explore two oscillatory mechanisms: the hysteresis-based relaxation oscillator and the repressilator. We combine these mechanisms into one regulatory network so that only two parameters, the strength of an additional regulatory connection and the timescale separation for one of the variables, control the transition from one mechanism to the other. Our data support a qualitative difference between the oscillatory mechanisms, but in the parameter space, we found a single oscillatory region, suggesting that the two mechanisms support each other. We examine interactions in a basic population: that is, a pair of the composite oscillators. We found that the relaxation oscillation mechanism is much more resistant to oscillatory death as the cells are diffusively coupled in a population. Additionally, stationary pattern formation has been found to accompany the relaxation oscillation but not the repressilator mechanism. These properties may guide the identification of oscillatory mechanisms in complex natural regulatory networks.
The effectiveness of psychosocial interventions on non-physiological symptoms of menopause: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:Background Menopause, a crucial transitioning stage for women, can significantly impact mood and wellbeing. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions on non-physiological symptoms of menopause (depression, anxiety, cognition, and quality of life) through systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods Five databases were searched from inception to August 2023 for randomized controlled trials. Pre- and post-test means and standard deviations for groups were extracted and used to calculate effect sizes. The effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBI) on depression and anxiety were examined by subgroup analysis. Results Thirty studies comprising 3501 women were included. From meta-analysis, mood symptoms significantly benefited from CBT (anxiety: d = −0.22, 95 % CI = -0.35, −0.10; depression: d = −0.33, 95 % CI = -0.45, −0.21) and MBI (anxiety: d = −0.56, 95 % CI = -0.74, −0.39; depression: d = −0.27, 95 % CI = -0.45, −0.09). Psychosocial interventions were also found to significantly improve cognition (d = −0.23, 95 % CI = -0.40, −0.06) and quality of life (d = −0.78, 95 % CI = -0.93, −0.63). Mean total therapy hours ('dose') was lower for CBT (11.3) than MBI (18.6), indicating reduced costs and burden for women. Limitations Data regarding menopausal status were not collected, limiting our ability to identify the optimal timing of interventions. Potential longer-term, effects of interventions were not investigated. Conclusion Our review highlighted the value of psychosocial interventions in improving non-physiological symptoms (particularly depression and anxiety) during menopause, noting the heterogeneity of findings and importance of implementing effective interventions.

Abstract:Background Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) are psychological interventions widely used in menopausal women. Currently, there is no evidence summary on the effectiveness of MBIs on anxiety, depression, stress, and mindfulness in menopausal women. This meta-analysis examines the effectiveness of MBIs in improving anxiety, depression, stress, and mindfulness scores in menopausal women. Methods A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), and Wanfang, using relevant terms such as MBIs as keywords and covering all studies published before March 13, 2022. The outcomes were anxiety, depression, stress, and mindfulness. The screening and extraction of data were conducted by two independent reviewers. Results A total of 1,138 menopausal women participated in 13 studies. Meta-analysis results showed that MBIs significantly reduced stress in menopausal women (SMD = −0.84, 95% CI: −1.64 to −0.05, p = 0.04), but no statistical differences were found in reducing anxiety (SMD = −0.40, 95% CI: −0.81 to 0.01, p = 0.06) and depression (SMD = −0.19, 95% CI: −0.45 to 0.07, p = 0.16) and in raising the scores of mindfulness (SMD = 0.37, 95% CI: −0.06 to 0.81, p = 0.09) in menopausal women. Conclusion MBIs may reduce stress in menopausal women, but their effect on improving anxiety, depression, and mindfulness needs further validation. Abstract:Introduction: Breast cancer is common among women and reduces their quality of life. The current study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction group counseling in alleviating psychological responses such as anxiety, depression, stress, and regulating laboratory tests including cortisol and C-reactive protein (CRP) in women with breast cancer. Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted based on convenience sampling. Participants were divided into 2 groups (control and intervention groups) with block randomization. The intervention group received mindfulness-based stress reduction group counseling during 8 weeks. The participants completed the Beck anxiety inventory, Beck-II depression inventory, and perceived stress scale before and after the intervention and their blood samples were taken to check their cortisol and CRP. Results: After the intervention, the MBSR group had significantly lower anxiety compared with the control group ( P < .001). No significant difference was found between the 2 groups in the reduction of perceived stress and depression ( P .05). Conclusion: The present study showed the effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in improving anxiety rather than the stress, depression, and inflammatory laboratory factors such as cortisol and CRP in women with breast cancer. Therefore, the psychological symptoms of these patients can be improved at different stages of treatment by providing this type of training.

Effectiveness of Tai Chi exercise program on sleep, quality of life, and physical performance in postmenopausal working women

Abstract:Background: Menopause being an unavoidable time in every woman's life brings up various challenges. Inevitable changes in body systems affect the life of a woman permanently. The symptoms constitute the postmenopausal syndrome which further affects the quality of life (QOL). Women spend most of the time working during the menopausal transition period and also during postmenopause. The discussion of symptoms is still considered a taboo. Exercise intervention to reduce the symptoms related to menopause which can show a positive impact on health status and work needs to be incorporated. Methodology: Tai Chi exercise intervention was given for 8 weeks to the women who achieved natural menopause and were included in the study ( n = 76). They were assessed for sleep, QOL, and physical performance before and after the intervention. Results: A significant difference was observed in all the outcomes after 8 weeks of intervention (Sleep Quality Scale (SQS)- t = 7.57, P = 0.0001; WHOQOL-BREF- t = 7.56, P = 0.0001; and Physical Performance Test PPT-t = 19.93, P = 0.0001). The results were consistent due to the active participation and high adherence rate of the individuals to the protocol. Conclusion: Our study revealed that besides being low velocity and low impact exercise, Tai Chi was a safe and effective mode of treatment in postmenopausal working women. In this group approach sessions were interactive and improved socialization skills because it was conducted in a community setting minimum equipment's and greater feasibility. Hence, this could also be incorporated in different age group population.
Effects of Light-Intensity Stretching on Menopausal and Depressive Symptoms in Middle-Aged Women: Experimental Study

Abstract:Introduction: Natural menopause, characterized by the cessation of menstruation due to ovarian follicular inactivity, often leads to various symptoms, including hot flashes and depressive mood. Exercise has shown promise in alleviating these symptoms, with light-intensity stretching being a potential solution. This study examines the effects of light-intensity stretching on menopausal and depressive symptoms in middle-aged women, exploring physiological mechanisms involved. Objectives: To evaluate impact of light-intensity stretching on menopausal and depressive symptoms and quality of life in middle-aged women. Specific objectives include assessing changes in symptom severity using the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS). Method: Employing experimental design and convenient sampling, 58 women aged 45-55 are divided into control and stretching groups based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measures include MRS, HDRS, and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). A 3-week intervention involves sham stretching for controls and group-based light-intensity stretching for the others. Results: The stretching group experiences significant reductions in menopausal symptoms and improved quality of life, evident in MRS domain sub-scores and total scores. HDRS scores also show substantial decreases in depressive symptoms compared to the control group Conclusion: Light intensity stretching notably alleviates menopausal and depressive symptoms in middle-aged women. Enhanced parasympathetic activity, reduced sympathetic activity, improved circulation, muscle relaxation, stress reduction, altered pain perception, and endorphin release are key physiological mechanisms. Positive effects extend to urogenital symptoms, underscoring its holistic benefits for women's overall quality of life. Effect of mindfulness on sexual self-esteem and marital intimacy in postmenopausal women: a quasi-experimental study

Abstract:Background: Menopause is a turning point in women's lives and a major medical challenge, leading to drastic changes in sexual self-esteem and the husband-wife relationship, which can have an undeniable impact on the quality of their life. Aim: To assess the effect of mindfulness-based education on sexual self-esteem and marital intimacy in postmenopausal women. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted with 130 women who were assigned to 2 groups, intervention (n = 65) and control (n = 65), out of whom 127 completed the study. The interventional group received 8 training sessions. The mindfulness-based intervention consisted of 8 educational sessions and daily mindfulness exercises. Sexual self-esteem was assessed by the Sexual Self-esteem Index for Woman-Short Form, and marital intimacy was measured with Thompson and Walker's Intimacy Scale. The collected data were analyzed via analysis of covariance. Outcomes: Outcomes included changes in sexual self-esteem and marital intimacy scores. Results: Participants in the intervention group demonstrated higher levels of total self-esteem posttreatment than participants in the control group (125.15 vs 119.46) and higher levels of intimacy (74.22 vs 61.59). The difference was still significant after adjusting for self-esteem (η2 = 0.312, P < .001) and intimacy (η2 = 0.573, P < .001) at baseline. Clinical implications: Mindfulness may be used as a strategy to improve sexual self-esteem and marital intimacy. Strengths and limitations: Unlike other treatments, mindfulness seems to be low cost and less complex in improving sexual self-esteem and marital intimacy. Limitations of this study include use of available sampling methods, nonrandom allocation of participants, and self-reporting data collection. Conclusion: As evidenced by the results, 8 weeks of mindfulness training could improve sexual self-esteem and marital intimacy in menopausal women. The mindfulness-based intervention should be incorporated into routine care to help menopausal women.

Abstract:Aim The present study aimed to examine the effects of a mindfulness‐based stress reduction (MBSR) program and deep relaxation exercises on pregnancy‐related anxiety levels. Materials and Methods This randomized parallel‐group controlled trial was conducted with 95 pregnant women (MBSR: n = 32, deep relaxation exercises: n = 31, control: n = 32) between 1 August and 15 October 2022 with pregnant women who were registered at the pregnancy outpatient clinics of a hospital in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Türkiye. CONSORT guidelines were followed in our study. The participants in the MBSR group were given an eight‐session MBSR program, consisting of two sessions per week for 4 weeks, whereas the participants in the deep relaxation exercises group were asked to do exercises at home with deep relaxation videos four times a week for 4 weeks. The participants in the control group received only routine prenatal care. Results The mean PRAQ‐R2 Fear of Giving Birth subscale scores of the participants in the MBSR and deep relaxation exercises groups after the intervention were lower than that of the participants in the control group. Additionally, the mean total PRAQ‐R2, PRAQ‐R2 Worries about Bearing a Physically or Mentally Handicapped Child subscale and PRAQ‐R2 Concern about One's Own Appearance subscale scores of the participants in the MBSR group were found to be significantly lower than the scores of those in the deep relaxation exercises and control groups (p

Clinical Efficacy of Curcumin and Vitamin E on Inflammatory-Oxidative Stress Biomarkers and Primary Symptoms of Menopause in Healthy Postmenopausal Women: A Triple-Blind Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract:Aims of the Study. Reducing estrogen levels due to menopause activates oxidative and inflammatory processes, which causes symptoms of menopause, anxiety, and sexual dysfunction. As a suggestion, potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents such as curcumin and vitamin E could be used as an effective alternative treatment due to parsimony, suitable access, and fewer side effects. Therefore, the present study was conducted to find out whether supplementation with curcumin and vitamin E affects inflammatory-oxidative stress biomarkers and primary symptoms of menopause in healthy postmenopausal women. Methods Used to Conduct the Study. The present study is a triple-blind parallel randomized controlled trial. Eighty-four eligible postmenopausal women aged 40 to 60 years old were randomly assigned into three groups using block randomization with an allocation ratio of 1 : 1 : 1. The curcumin group received one capsule containing 500 mg curcumin twice a day, the vitamin E group received one 500 mg capsule of vitamin E twice a day, and the placebo group took two placebo capsules containing 500 mg of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) daily for eight weeks. Demographic and anthropometric characteristics, dietary intake, and early symptoms of menopause were collected at baseline. Serum levels of total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) were measured at baseline and after the intervention. Intervention safety and satisfaction with the intervention were also evaluated. Results of the Study. Eighty-one participants completed the trial and were finally analyzed. There were no statistically significant differences in demographic characteristics and dietary intake of participants (except for vitamin C intake, P = 0.023 ) between the groups at baseline. The mean ± standard deviation (SD) score of total menopause symptoms, depression, anxiety, psychological, vasomotor, and physical domains significantly decreased within all groups ( P < 0.05 ). Between-group analyses indicated that decreasing the mean score of anxiety in the vitamin E group was significantly more than in the placebo group ( P = 0.026 ). The mean (SD) serum levels of MDA and hs-CRP significantly decreased only in the curcumin group ( P = 0.009 and P = 0.025 , respectively). Serum levels of TAC significantly increased in curcumin and vitamin E groups ( P < 0.001 and P = 0.006 , respectively). Conclusions Drawn from the Study and Clinical Implications. Curcumin could improve the oxidative stress (MDA and TAC) and inflammatory (hs-CRP) biomarkers. Vitamin E may also improve the antioxidant status by increasing the TAC levels. The alleviation of anxiety in the vitamin E group was more than in the placebo group. Clinical Trial Registration. Abstract:OBJECTIVE To explore the effect of mindfulness meditation training for improving anxiety, depression and sleep disorders in perimenopausal women. METHODS Intervention by menopause meditation training was delivered in 121 perimenopausal women with anxiety, depression or sleep disorders in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. Before and after the intervention, the Self-rating Anxiety Scale, Self-rating Depression Scale and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index were used for assessment of changes in the conditions of the women. RESULTS After menopausal meditation training, the perimenopausal women showed significant improvement in the mean scores of Self-rating Anxiety Scale (48.26 ± 6.47; t=3.865, P < 0.01), Selfrating Depression Scale (50.27 ± 6.54; t=4.541, P < 0.01) and Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire (10.64 ± 4.38; t=5.596, P < 0.01). The symptom remission rates differed significantly among the women with different self-practice frequencies (P < 0.01). The remission rates of anxiety, depression and sleep disorder increased significantly with the frequency of self-exercise (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Mindfulness meditation training can effectively alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and depression and improve the quality of sleep in perimenopausal women, and the frequency of the exercise is positively correlated with the improvements. Mindfulness meditation training can be an effective intervention for improving the mental health of perimenopausal women.

Effect of Auricular Acupressure on Anxiety and Sleep Quality of Postmenopausal Women: A Randomized Sham-controlled Trial

Abstract:Background and Objective: Menopause is associated with annoying symptoms, such as anxiety and sleep disorders. Acupressure, as one of the methods of complementary medicine, can replace pharmaceutical and hormonal methods. The present study aimed to determine the effect of auricular acupressure on anxiety and sleep quality of postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods: This randomized sham-controlled trial was conducted on 107 postmenopausal women in Mashhad in 2019. Using a table of random numbers, the subjects were randomly assigned to three groups, namely one intervention group (with auricular acupressure and granular needle) and two control groups (one without granular needle and acupressure and one with routine care). In the intervention group and the control group without seed, the tapes were attached to both ears at 8 points. The intervention group pressed the points 4 times a day for 3 min each time. Demographic information form, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index were completed at the baseline and after one month. Data analysis was performed in SPSS16 software using Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: There is no significant difference between sleep quality and anxiety in the three groups before the intervention (P=0.27 and P=0.95, respectively). However, this difference was significant after the intervention for both sleep quality and anxiety variables in the intervention group compared to the two control groups (P<0.001 and P=0.03, respectively). Conclusion: Applying ear acupressure can reduce the anxiety in menopausal women and improve their sleep quality. It is recommended that healthcare professionals suggest this method to menopausal women.

Abstract:The study aims to evaluate the effect of yoga on the premenstrual syndrome, perceived stress level and the quality of life. The study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial at a university in Turkey. A yoga group = 39, a control group = 41, total of n = 80 female students participated in the study. In the study, firstly, the preview was made, then the yoga group was applied two days a week for eight weeks, the second follow-up was made after the application, and lastly, the last follow-up was made in the 24th week. Four questionnaire surveys were applied on students. When the yoga group compared with the control group in terms of premenstrual syndrome, the quality of life and perceived stress level in the 2nd follow-up, a statistically significant decrease was found in the mean between the menstrual and premenstrual period, and the quality of life increases in the yoga group compared to the control group students. Practicing yoga in university students with premenstrual syndrome reduced premenstrual symptoms and raised quality of life. Yoga can be recommended to girls with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) to reduce PMS and improve quality of life.

The effect of probiotics on mood and sleep quality in postmenopausal women: A triple-blind randomized controlled trial

Abstract:Background & aims: Symptoms associated with menopause could be a public health issue in the world, characterized by a permanent cessation of menstruation due to lack of ovarian follicular activity 12 months after menopause. It leads to mood swings, sleep disturbances and hot flashes. Modification of lifestyle and proper nutrition program are involved in improving mood and sleep quality. Thus, the aim of present study was to evaluate the effect of probiotics on mood and sleep quality (primary outcomes), quality of life, satisfaction with the intervention and side effects (secondary outcomes) in postmenopausal women. Methods: This triple-blind randomized controlled trial was conducted on 66 postmenopausal women aged 45-55 years in Behbahan city-Iran in 2020-2021. Women were randomly assigned to the intervention and control groups. Intervention group received 100 g of yogurt containing probiotics and control group received 100 g of ordinary yogurt daily after lunch for 6 weeks. Before the intervention and 6 weeks after the intervention, the participants completed the Pittsburgh sleep quality scale, DASS-21 (Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale-21 items), and the menopause quality of life (MENQOL) questionnaire. Independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U and ANCOVA tests were used for data analysis. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of socio-demographic characteristics and baseline values. Six weeks after the intervention, based on ANCOVA test and by adjusting the baseline score, the mean anxiety score (adjusted mean difference (AMD): -0.56, 95% confidence interval (95% CI): -0.01 to -1.12; P = 0.044), mean stress score (AMD: -0.76, 95% CI: -0.01 to -1.52; P = 0.046) and mean quality of life score (AMD: -4.86, 95% CI: 3.06 to -6.66; P < 0.001) in the group receiving probiotic yogurt were significantly lower than those in the control group. However, in terms of mean scores of depression and sleep quality, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest the effects of consuming probiotic yogurt on improving anxiety, stress and quality of life in postmenopausal women. However, further studies are needed to obtain a definite conclusion in this regard. Abstract:This study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of health education on menopausal symptoms, knowledge, and attitudes about menopause. To evaluate the efficacy of a training program, information about menopausal symptoms, knowledge, and attitude toward menopause was collected before and after health education. After the health education intervention, it was determined that there was a decrease in the somatic and psychological subdimensions of the menopausal symptom evaluation scale and in the total score. Positive changes were observed in the levels of knowledge about menopause, and positive and negative emotional subscales of the menopause attitude assessment scale. It is concluded that health education is an effective method to positively change the perceived severity of menopausal symptoms and menopause-related level of knowledge and attitude.

Abstract:Objectives: Therapeutic interventions are crucial for perimenopausal women, given the challenging physical and psychological symptoms they face. This study focused on the development and verification of the efficacy of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocol designed specifically for Korean perimenopausal women. Study design: A CBT protocol for perimenopausal women was newly developed based on theory and evidence. Forty menopausal women were randomly assigned to either the CBT group (n = 19) or treatment-as-usual (TAU) group (n = 21). Participants in the CBT group underwent 60-min weekly sessions for eight weeks. The TAU group received standard care from gynecologists. Main outcome measures: At baseline and follow-up, participants completed the Menopausal Rating Scale (MRS), World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF), Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15), Menopause Emotional Symptom Questionnaire (MESQ), and Subjective Memory Complaints Questionnaire. Results: The CBT group showed significant changes in their MRS (F = 4.18, p = .048), WHOQOL-BREF (7.60, 0.009), GAD-7 (4.61, 0.038), PHQ-15 (5.49, 0.025), and MESQ scores (7.19, 0.011) compared to the TAU group. In the CBT group, changes in GAD-7 scores were correlated with PHQ-15 (ρ = 0.57, p < .05), MESQ (0.57, < 0.05), and WHOQOL-BREF scores (-0.53, < 0.05). Conclusion: CBT prevents the worsening of menopausal and emotional symptoms, anxiety, and quality of life. CBT may have had a therapeutic effect through the following mechanisms: managing anxiety by changing perceptions of menopause through education and training for coping with various menopausal symptoms and improving self-efficacy in symptom management.
