Abstract:Introduction Myopia is causing a major public health concern, with its prevalence increasing globally. This study aimed to discuss posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) research publication trends and hotspots over the past 20 years. Methods Bibliometric analysis was performed using the Web Science Core Collection to investigate posterior-chamber pIOL research publication trends. The extracted records were analyzed, and a knowledge map was built using VOSviewer v.1.6.20. The analysis included visualizing the annual publication count, countries/regions distribution, international and institutional collaborations, author productivity, and journal contribution, in addition to identifying knowledge bases and hotspots. Burst keywords were extracted using CiteSpace v.6.1.R. Results In total, 791 articles on posterior chamber pIOLs published between 2003 and 2023 were retrieved. China had the highest number of publications, whereas Japanese papers received the most citations. Fudan University had the highest number of publications, with articles from Kitasato University having the highest number of citations. Regarding individual research, Xingtao Zhou has published the most significant number of articles, and Shimizu Kimiya had the highest number of citations. The top productive/influential journal was ‘Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery’. The top cited references primarily focused on reporting the clinical outcomes of implantable collamer lens (ICL) for individuals with moderate to high myopia. The keywords primarily formed four clusters: posterior chamber pIOL clinical outcomes for myopic astigmatism correction, posterior chamber pIOL implantation complications, ICL size selection and postoperative vault predictions, and postoperative visual quality following posterior chamber pIOL implantation. Conclusion This study presents the first bibliometric analysis of research trends in posterior chamber pIOL over the past two decades. We investigated the current state and emerging trends of global collaboration and research focal points in this field, offering fresh insights and guidance for researchers.

Systematic bibliometric analysis of research hotspots and trends on the application of premium IOLs in the past 2 decades

Abstract:Aim: To analysis of research hotspots and trends on the application of premium intraocular lens (PIOLs) in the past 2 decades. Methods: The literature search was performed on the Web of Science and included PIOLs studies published between January 2000 and December 2022. The retrieved literature was collated and analyzed by R-tool's Bibliometrix package, CitNetExplorer, CiteSpace and other software. Results: A total of 1801 articles about PIOLs were obtained, most of which were published in Spain and the United States. The organization that published the most articles was the University of Valencia in Spain. Alió JL, and Montés-Micó R, from Spain were the most influential authors in this field. The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Journal of Refractive Surgery were the core journals for this field; the top 10 cited articles mainly focus on postoperative satisfaction with multifocal intraocular lens (IOLs) and postoperative results of toric IOLs. Through the keyword analysis, we found that trifocal IOLs, astigmatism and extended depth of focus (EDoF) IOLs are the most discussed topics at present, and the importance of astigmatism and the clinical application of the new generation of PIOLs are the emerging research trends. Conclusion: Bibliometric analysis can effectively help to identify multilevel concerns in PIOLs research and the prevailing research trends in the realm of PIOLs encompass the adoption of EDoF IOLs, trifocal IOLs, and their respective Toric models.
Bibliometric analysis of research relating to refractive cataract surgery over a 20-year period: from 2003 to 2022

Abstract:AIM: To investigate the research trend on refractive cataract surgery, compare the contributions of different countries, institutions, journals, and authors in the past 20y, and explore its potential research hotspots. METHODS: All publications were extracted relating to refractive cataract surgery from 2003 to 2022 from Web of Science. Document types were limited to original articles and reviews, and the language was limited to English. Quantitatively and qualitatively of the publications were analyzed through Microsoft Excel and GraphPad Prism. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used for bibliometric and visualized analysis. RESULTS: A total of 2090 publications were enrolled. The United States contributed the most publications (434, 20.8%), followed by China (345, 16.5%) and England (163, 7.80%). Publications from the United States were cited more frequently (9552 citations) with the highest H-index of 48. China ranked second in the total number of publications, the papers were not cited that frequently (3237 citations), and the H-index ranked sixth (H-index=29). Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery published the most papers (333, 15.9%), and the University of London had the highest number of publications (75, 3.59%). Dick HB from Germany published the most papers. Corneal astigmatism-related research, cataract surgery method-related research, postoperative visual-quality relate to research, and postoperative complications-relate research are the hotspots in this field. The most significant limitation was that the database was updated frequently and the latest publications were not included. CONCLUSION: The bibliometric analysis shows a brief summarization of the contribution of the authors, institutions, countries, and journals. Corneal astigmatism, cataract surgery method, postoperative visual-quality and postoperative complications related researches have become the emerging hotspots, which can give a direction in the future researches.
Posterior chamber collagen copolymer phakic intraocular lens with a central hole for moderate-to-high myopia: First experience in China.

Abstract:The purpose of this article is to evaluate the clinical outcomes of a posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) (Visian Implantable Collamer Lens V4c) for the correction of moderate to high myopia in Chinese eyes.The article is designed as a retrospective case series.This study included the first consecutive eyes that had implantation of a new pIOL design with a central hole, at our department by the same surgeon. The safety, efficacy, predictability, stability, and adverse events of the surgery were evaluated over 6 months.The study enrolled 63 eyes (32 patients). The mean spherical equivalent decreased from -12.813.11 diopters (D) preoperatively to -0.05 +/- 0.27D 6 months postoperatively; 96.8% of eyes were within +/- 0.50D of the target and 100% of eyes were within +/- 1.00D. All eyes had a decimal uncorrected distance visual acuity of 0.5 (20/40) or better at every follow-up visit. The safety and efficacy indices were 1.42 +/- 0.34 and 1.11 +/- 0.19, respectively. Postoperatively, the intraocular pressure (IOP) remained stable over time. No significant rises in IOP (including pupillary block) and no secondary cataract were found. After 6 months, the mean vault was 505.2 +/- 258.9m (range 120-990m), and the mean endothelial cell loss was 2.0%.Implantation of the pIOL was safe, effective, predictable, and stable in the correction of moderate-to-high myopia in Han Chinese patients, even without peripheral iridectomy.

Abstract:Background Myopic corneal refractive surgery is one of the most prevalent ophthalmic procedures for correcting ametropia. This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of research in the field of corneal refractive surgery over the past 40 years in order to describe the current international status and to identify most influential factors, while highlighting research hotspots. Methods A bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was used to analyze the publication trends in research related to myopic corneal refractive surgery. VOSviewer v.1.6.10 was used to construct the knowledge map in order to visualize the publications, distribution of countries, international collaborations, author productivity, source journals, cited references, keywords, and research hotspots in this field. Results A total of 4,680 publications on myopic corneal refractive surgery published between 1979 and 2022 were retrieved. The United States has published the most papers, with Emory University contributing to the most citations. The Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery published the greatest number of articles, and the top 10 cited references mainly focused on outcomes and wound healing in refractive surgery. Previous research emphasized “radial keratotomy (RK)” and excimer laser-associated operation methods. The keywords containing femtosecond (FS) laser associated with “small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE)” and its “safety” had higher burst strength, indicating a shift of operation methods and coinciding with the global trends in refractive surgery. The document citation network was clustered into five groups: (1) outcomes of refractive surgery: (2) preoperative examinations for refractive surgery were as follows: (3) complications of myopic corneal refractive surgery; (4) corneal wound healing and cytobiology research related to photorefractive laser keratotomy; and (5) biomechanics of myopic corneal refractive surgery. Conclusion The bibliometric analysis in this study may provide scholars with valuable to information and help them better understand the global trends in myopic corneal refractive surgery research frontiers. Two stages of rapid development occurred around 1991 and 2013, shortly after the innovation of PRK and SMILE surgical techniques. The most cited articles mainly focused on corneal wound healing, clinical outcomes, ocular aberration, corneal ectasia, and corneal topography, representing the safety of the new techniques.

The ICL has become an important technique used in intraocular refractive surgery. With improvements in material, design, and application, the ICL has good efficacy, predictability, long-term safety and stability, manageable complications, and reversibility. More and more refractive surgeons are taking note of the ICL. This article reviews the material characteristics and the latest designs of the ICL along with the clinical applications, visual quality, and future development.

Abstract:Purpose: To introduce a modified procedure of ICL implantation, to summarize the perioperative problems and their corresponding treatment after myopia correction with Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), and to compare the difference of complications between the no-hole ICL and hole ICL. Methods: We searched all articles on ICL-related perioperative problems and their corresponding treatment in Scopus, Embase, PubMed and Web of Science databases for the last 22 years. Results: ICL implantation is safe, effective, stable and predictable in the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, but can also cause a series of perioperative problems, including intraoperative and postoperative complications. Conclusion: There are many kinds of complications related to ICL, but the common intraoperative and postoperative complications mainly include abnormality of arch height, abnormal position of ICL, loss of corneal endothelial cells and corneal decompensation, high intraocular pressure and secondary glaucoma, cataract and night vision symptoms. Compared with ICL without central pore, the incidence of complications such as loss of corneal endothelial cells and corneal decompensation, high intraocular pressure and secondary glaucoma and cataract was relatively lower in central hole ICL, while postoperative complications such as night vision symptoms were obvious.

Abstract:This review summarizes the available literature and provides updates on the efficacy, safety, and patient outcomes of phakic intraocular lens implantation using implantable collamer lens (ICL), with a focus on newer models with a central port (EVO/EVO+ Visian Implantable Collamer Lens, STAAR Surgical Inc.). All studies included in this review were identified from the PubMed database and were reviewed for relevancy of their topic. Data on hole-ICL implantation performed between October 2018 and October 2022 in 3399 eyes showed a weighted average efficacy index of 1.03 and a weighted average safety index of 1.19 within an average follow-up of 24.7 months. The incidence of complications such as elevated intraocular pressure, cataract, and corneal endothelial cell loss was low. Moreover, both quality of vision and quality of life improved after ICL implantation, confirming the benefits of this procedure. In conclusion, ICL implantation is a promising refractive surgery alternative to laser vision correction with excellent efficacy, safety, and patient outcomes.

Abstract:The purpose of this review is to summarize preclinical and clinical data from publications appearing in the peer-reviewed scientific literature relevant to the safety and effectiveness of the EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) posterior chamber phakic refractive lens with a central port (V4c Visian ICL with KS Aquaport, STAAR Surgical, Inc.). A literature search was conducted using PubMed.gov to identify all articles relating to the EVO ICL. Articles were examined for their relevance, and the references cited in each article were also searched for additional relevant publications. On the basis of a total of 67 preclinical studies and clinical reports, including effectiveness data on 1,905 eyes with average weighted follow-up of 12.5 months and safety data on 4,196 eyes with weighted average follow up of 14.0 months, the EVO ICL is safe and effective for the correction of a broad range of refractive errors. High levels of postoperative uncorrected visual acuity, refractive predictability, and stability demonstrate the effectiveness of the EVO ICL. Safety data suggest reduced rates of anterior subcapsular cataract and pupillary block compared with earlier models. Improved safety and proven effectiveness make EVO an attractive option for surgeons and patients.

Clinical Characteristics Analysis of Patients Who Underwent Lens Exchange or Explantation after Implantable Collamer Lens Implantation

Abstract:Background This study aims to analyze the clinical characteristics of patients receiving secondary lens exchange or explantation after implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation. Methods This retrospective study included 2347 eyes of 1175 consecutive patients receiving ICL or toric ICL (TICL) implantation. Clinical characteristics and ocular biometric measurements of patients who underwent secondary lens exchange or explantation (Group Ex) were analyzed. Visual outcomes and safety indices of secondary surgery were compared with the control group (Group C). Results The overall exchange or explantation rate was 1.11%. Eight eyes (0.34%) exhibited an excessive vault height, which was corrected after exchange surgery. Seventeen eyes (0.72%) exhibited a low vault, of which one eye underwent explantation, 11 eyes achieved a vault > 250 µm after exchange surgery, and five eyes had a vault ≤ 250 µm. One eye (0.04%) experienced repeated vertical TICL rotation and was exchanged with a nontoric lens. The clinical characteristics associated with an insufficient vault included a higher crystal sagittal height, smaller ciliary processes, and a wide iris-ciliary angle (ICA). The efficacy index at one month postoperatively was significantly higher in Group C (1.20 ± 0.20) than in Group Ex (1.10 ± 0.19) (P < 0.05). The safety index was 1.16 ± 0.17 and 1.22 ± 0.18 in Group Ex and Group C (P > 0.05), respectively. Conclusions Abnormal vault height after ICL implantation is the main reason for secondary exchange or explantation surgery. Biometric characteristics, including higher crystal sagittal height, smaller ciliary processes, and wider ICA, were associated with low vault height. A Comprehensive Retrospective Analysis of EVO/EVO+ Implantable Collamer Lens: Evaluating Refractive Outcomes in the Largest Single Center Study of ICL Patients in the United States

Abstract:Purpose: We evaluate visual outcomes in patients with EVO/EVO+™ (posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens with a central port) within approved United States (US) age and refractive range indications. Patients and methods: This single-center retrospective study evaluated one-month, single-center postoperative data for 225 eyes meeting inclusion criteria and undergoing EVO/EVO+ implantation from April to October 2022. Data included lens size (mm), lens power (diopters of spherical and cylindrical power), preoperative best corrected visual acuity, preoperative spherical equivalent from manifest refraction, achieved postoperative uncorrected visual acuity, postoperative refraction, intraocular pressure (mmHg), and adverse events. Results: A total of 225 eyes underwent EVO/EVO+ Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) implantation from April to October 2022, with 51.5% receiving toric lenses. The most common ICL size was 12.6mm (56.4%), followed by 13.2mm (27.5%), 12.1mm (15.1%), and 13.7mm (0.9%). Among patients with preoperative BCVA of 20/20 or better (149 eyes), 95.2% achieved postoperative UCVA of 20/20 or better, and 99.3% achieved UCVA of 20/25 or better at postoperative month one. About 75% of eyes were within a spherical equivalent target of ±0.50 D and 94% within ±1.00 D. Toric ICLs were implanted in 116 eyes (51.8%). Of these, anticipated residual cylinder >1 diopter was seen in 21 eyes (18.1%) resulting in three rotations, three explants, and three laser vision correction (LVC) enhancements. The postoperative adjustment rate (including rotations, exchanges, and LVC enhancement) was minimal (4.8%). Incidence of major adverse events was 0%. Conclusion: Our study, the largest US single-center analysis of EVO/EVO+ ICL implantation, demonstrates strong early results and infrequent adverse events, supporting ICL safety and effectiveness. High predictability and favorable visual outcomes, including 20/20 or better, highlight the reliability of this technology. Despite study limitations, our findings underscore this technology's effectiveness. Future research should refine patient criteria and assess long-term outcomes in this evolving landscape.
Implantation of posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens for myopia and hyperopia - long-term clinical outcomes

Abstract:Purpose: To evaluate long-term refractive outcomes of implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation and late postoperative complications. Methods: We assessed outcomes of patients who underwent ICL implantation (type ICM V4 for myopia, ICH V3 for hyperopia, TICM V4 for astigmatism) in our department between 1998 and 2013. It comprised 62 eyes (40 myopic and 22 hyperopic). The average follow-up period was 10.5 years. We evaluated: uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity (UCVA and BCVA), spherical equivalent (SE), ICL vault, endothelial cell density and late postoperative complications. Results: In myopes, the average UCVA was 1.0±0.37 and BCVA 1.18±0.38, in hyperopes 0.78±0.19 and 1.14±0.18, respectively. The average SE in myopes, whose target refraction was emmetropia, was -0.6±0.83 Dsf, in hyperopes +0.73±0.93. Central ICL vault was 206.16μm±105.94, (range 10-427) in myopes, 195.5μm±109.09, (range 20-404) in hyperopes. The most common late postoperative complication was cataract formation. Three myopic eyes (7.5%) developed symptomatic anterior subcapsular opacities with loss of at least two lines of BCVA. Cataract significantly affecting visual acuity occurred in 5 myopic eyes (12.5%) and 2 hyperopic eyes (9.09%). In these eyes, ICL removal and cataract surgery was performed. Conclusions: In our experience, ICL implantation in moderate and high ametropia was effective and relatively safe. The most common late complication was cataract formation. This complication can be managed effectively surgically with good refractive outcomes without loss of BCVA.
Implantable Collamer Lens® for Management of Pseudophakic Ametropia in Eyes With a Spectrum of Previous Corneal Surgery

Abstract:Purpose: To assess the visual outcomes, predictability, and safety of the Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) (STAAR Surgical, Inc., Monrovia, CA) for the management of residual pseudophakic refractive error. Methods: Forty-nine pseudophakic eyes of 40 patients in which myopic, hyperopic, or toric ICLs were implanted were retrospectively analyzed. Twenty-nine eyes had been implanted with a monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) and 20 eyes had a multifocal IOL. All IOLs were implanted in the capsular bag. Of the 49 eyes included, 6 had residual refractive error after phacoemulsification without corneal pathology or surgical alteration (virgin cornea group), 12 had LASIK or photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) (excimer laser group), 8 had radial keratotomy, 5 had intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) implantation, 11 had penetrating keratoplasty, and 7 had deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). Uncorrected and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity and manifest refraction were evaluated. Results: The efficacy/safety indices were 0.92/1.10, 0.98/1.13, 1.04/1.11, 0.90/1.13, 0.79/1.17, and 0.71/1.23 for the virgin cornea, excimer laser, radial keratotomy, ICRS, penetrating keratoplasty, and DALK groups, respectively. No eye lost one or more lines of CDVA. The virgin cornea, excimer laser, and radial keratotomy groups showed better predictability and accuracy, with 96.2% spherical equivalent within ±1.00 diopters (D). The ICRS, penetrating keratoplasty, and DALK groups demonstrated approximately 50% spherical equivalent within ±1.00 D. There were no intraoperative or postoperative complications. Conclusions: Good refractive outcomes and a strong safety record support the use of the ICL for the correction of residual refractive error in pseudophakic eyes with previous corneal surgery. Abstract:AIM:To assess the safety, efficacy, predictability and stability of implantable collamer lens (ICL) for residual refractive error after corneal refractive surgery. METHODS:This study evaluated 19 eyes of 12 patients who underwent ICL implantation after corneal refractive surgeries. They were followed up for 1y to 5y of uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), manifest refractive error, flat and steep K value, axial length, intraocular pressure, corneal endothelial cell density, adverse events after ICL surgery. RESULTS:The mean follow-up period was 39.05±19.22 mo (range, 1-5y). Spherical equivalent refractive error changed from -7.45±3.02 D preoperatively to -0.85±1.10 D 1wk to 1mo after ICL implantation, with the safety and efficacy indices being 1.12 and 1.15, respectively. A total of 52.63% of eyes were within ±0.5 D of the predicted spherical equivalents, 73.68% were within ±1.0 D. A trend of mild regression towards myopia with axial elongation after 5y was observed. One eye with mild anterior capsule opacity and retinal detachment 1y after surgery were observed. CONCLUSION:ICL implantation is safe and effective for the correction of residual refractive error after corneal refractive surgeries, especially in moderate to high residual myopia.
The remnants of crossed fixation observed in teenaged children with esotropia.

Abstract:PURPOSE To report 2 cases of teenage children with esotropia from a much earlier age, displaying remnants of crossed fixation with special reference to Helmholtz's theory that each eye is controlled independently and Hering's Law of equal innervation. CASE REPORTS Case 1 had paretic and partially accommodative esotropia that was first observed at 11 months of age; and Case 2 had accommodative esotropia with an onset at age 3 years. Both cases had hypermetropia and good corrected visual acuity in both eyes. They were able to fixate independently with each eye but the dominant eye always controls their fixation and they believe they are using only their dominant eye; however, their non-dominant eye was used to viewing objects in the opposite field (crossed fixation). Both cases maintained good binocular alignment at distance with either surgery and glasses (Case 1) or glasses alone (Case 2). However, their esotropia increased through the early teenage years leading both patients to undergo surgery at this later age: Case 1 at 17 years of age and Case 2 at 19 years of age. Post-surgical Starlight testing showed that their binocular visual fields improved. CONCLUSION Crossed fixation exists in esotropia (even in acquired accommodative esotropia) and as the patient ages, one eye becomes dominant leaving the non-dominant eye to fix only in crossed gaze. These cases support Helmholtz's theory that each eye is controlled independently and that binocular coordination is learned.
Incidence of cataract following implantation of a posterior-chamber phakic lens ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) - long-term results

Abstract:Aim: To evaluate late postoperative complications, especially cataract occurrence, its morphological type and factors affecting its development in patients implanted with ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens). Methods: We analysed the results of ICL implantation in 34 patients (type ICM V4 for myopia, ICH V3 for hyperopia, TICM V4 for astigmatism) in our department between 1998 and 2013. The cohort comprised 62 eyes (40 myopic and 22 hyperopic). Seven eyes with a toric ICL implanted were included in these groups according to spherical equivalent (SE). The average follow-up period was 10.5 ± 3.5 years. We examined uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity (UCVA and BCVA), SE, ICL vaulting (using anterior segment OCT) and occurrence of late postoperative complications, especially cataract formation in 2 groups of patients - myopes and hyperopes. Results: Among the most common late postoperative complications were pigment dispersion syndrome in 27 eyes, 43.5% (12 myopic eyes and 15 hyperopic eyes) and cataract formation. Lens opacities, including opacities without loss of BCVA, were observed in 18 eyes (29%). Opacities affecting visual acuity were observed in 10 eyes (16.1%). Cataract significantly affecting visual acuity occurred in 7 eyes, i.e. 11.3% (5 myopic eyes and 2 hyperopic eyes). In these eyes, ICL removal and cataract surgery with implantation of posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) was performed. The most common morphological type of cataract were anterior subcapsular opacities (83.3%), the average time of onset was 3.4 ± 1.9 years after ICL implantation. We did not prove a statistically significant association either between cataract occurrence and age at the time of surgery, or between cataract occurrence and higher preoperative spherical equivalent. We did not prove a significant association between cataract occurrence and low vault, however in 7 eyes after cataract surgery and ICL removal we do not know the vault values. In one eye uveitis with cystoid macular oedema was observed, in two highly myopic eyes repeated ICL dislocation and cataract occurred. In both of these cases the ICL was removed. Conclusions: According to our experience, implantation of ICL in moderate and high ametropia was relatively safe upon assessing the long-term outcomes. Among the most common complications were pigment dispersion syndrome and anterior subcapsular cataract formation. Cataract can be managed effectively surgically with good refractive outcomes without loss of BCVA. However, loss of accommodation after cataract surgery and risk of vitreoretinal complications must be considered.Key words: ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens), posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens, refractive surgery, cataract occurrence.

Abstract:Advances in cataract surgery have increased the demand for intraocular lens (IOL) materials. At present, the progress of IOL materials mainly contains further improving biocompatibility, providing better visual quality and adjustable ability, reducing surgical incision, as well as dealing with complications such as posterior capsular opacification (PCO) and ophthalmitis. The purpose of this review is to describe the research progress of relevant IOL materials classified according to different clinical purposes. The innovation of IOL materials is often based on the common IOL materials on the market, such as silicon and acrylate. Special properties and functions are obtained by adding extra polymers or surface modification. Most of these studies have not yet been commercialized, which requires a large number of clinical trials. But they provide valuable thoughts for the optimization of the IOL function.

Abstract:With the widespread application of Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) implantation surgery in the field of myopia correction, a comprehensive understanding of its potential complications, especially those related to intraocular pressure (IOP), becomes crucial. This article systematically reviews various complications that may lead to IOP elevation after ICL surgery. Firstly, common complications after ICL surgery, including residual viscoelastic, steroid response, and excessive vault of the ICL, are detailed, emphasizing their potential impact on intraocular pressure. Regarding residual viscoelastic, we delve into its direct relationship with postoperative elevated IOP and possible preventive measures. For steroid response, we stress the importance of timely adjustment of steroid therapy and monitoring intraocular pressure. Additionally, excessive vault of the ICL is considered a significant potential issue, and we elaborate on its mechanism and possible management methods. In further discussion, we focus on relatively rare complications such as Toxic Anterior Segment Syndrome (TASS), Urrets-Zavalia Syndrome (UZS), Pigment Dispersion Syndrome (PDS), and malignant glaucoma. For these relatively rare complications, this review thoroughly explores their potential mechanisms, emphasizes the importance of prevention, and provides guidance for early diagnosis and treatment. This is a comprehensible review that aims to offer eye care professionals a comprehensive understanding and effective management guidance for complications of elevated IOP after ICL surgery, ultimately providing optimal care for patients’ visual health.
