Abstract:Objective: Neuropathic pain (NP) associated with depression or anxiety is highly prevalent in clinical practice. Publications about NP associated with depression or anxiety increased exponentially from 2000 to 2020. However, studies that applied the bibliometric method in analyzing global scientific research about NP associated with depression or anxiety are rare. This work used the bibliometric method to analyze the publications on NP associated with depression or anxiety between 2000 and 2020. Method: Publications from 2000 and 2020 were identified from the Thomson Reuters Web of Science (WoS) database. We employed CiteSpace V to conduct the bibliometric study. Results: A total of 915 articles or reviews were obtained from the WoS database. The number of publications has increased over the last two decades. The USA was the most productive among countries or regions in the field. According to the burst key words, neuroinflammation, hippocampus, safety, and modulation were the hot global research issues in the domain. Conclusion: Publications about NP associated with depression or anxiety have remarkably increased from 2000 to 2020. These historical opinions about NP associated with depression or anxiety could be an important practical basis for further research into potential development trends.

Abstract:Anxiety disorder is listed as one of the most common diagnoses for people on the autism spectrum, however to date no bibliometric analysis has been conducted on this literature. This study aimed to analyze, from a bibliometric perspective, the production of scientific research published in Web of Science related to anxiety in the autism spectrum. Since 2013, research has grown exponentially and the most important field turned out to be developmental psychology. The main articles in the field address issues related to parenting, mental health and psychiatric comorbidity. Storch EA, USA, Kings College London (UK), Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders , were respectively, the most productive author, country, institution and journal in the field. Keyword analysis revealed a close relationship between autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, and depression, making this a novel research field with interdisciplinary practical implications.

Abstract:Background: Epilepsy ranks among the most common neurological disorders worldwide, frequently accompanied by depression as a prominent comorbidity. This study employs bibliometric analysis to reveal the research of comorbid epilepsy and depression over the past two decades, aiming to explore trends and contribute insights to ongoing investigations. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search on the Web of Science Core Collection database and downloaded relevant publications on comorbid epilepsy and depression published from 2003 to 2023. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were mainly used to analyze the authors, institutions, countries, publishing journals, reference co-citation patterns, keyword co-occurrence, keyword clustering, and other aspects to construct a knowledge atlas. Results: A total of 5,586 publications related to comorbid epilepsy and depression were retrieved, with a general upward trend despite slight fluctuations in annual publications. Publications originated from 121 countries and 636 institutions, with a predominant focus on clinical research. The United States led in productivity (1,529 articles), while Melbourne University emerged as the most productive institution (135 articles). EPILEPSY & BEHAVIOR was the journal with the highest publication output (1,189 articles) and citation count. Keyword analysis highlighted emerging trends, including "recognitive impairment" and "mental health," indicating potential future research hotspots and trends. Conclusion: This study is one of the first to perform a bibliometric analysis of the 20-year scientific output of comorbid epilepsy and depression. While research has trended upwards, ambiguity in pathogenesis and the absence of standardized diagnostic guidelines remain concerning. Our analysis offers valuable guidance for researchers, informing that this might be a strong area for future collaborations.

Abstract:Background: Anxiety and depression are prevalent mental disorders. As modern society continues to face mounting pressures, the incidence of anxiety and depression is on the rise. In recent years, there has been an increasing breadth of research exploring the relationship between anxiety, depression, and physical activity (PA). However, the current research progress and future development trends are unclear. The purpose of this study is to explore the research hotspots and development trends in this field, and to provide guidance for future studies and to provide some reference for clinicians. Methods: We searched the relevant literature of Web of Science Core Collection from the establishment of the database to August 15, 2023. CiteSpace, VOSviewer and Bibliometrix Packages based on the R language were used to analyze the number of publications, countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. Results: A total of 1,591 studies were included in the analysis, and the research in the field of PA on anxiety or depression has consistently expanded. The USA (304 publications), Harvard University (93 publications), and the journal of affective disorders (97 publications) were the countries, institutions, and journals that published the highest number of articles, respectively. According to the keywords, students and pregnant women, adult neurogenesis, and Tai Chi were the groups of concern, physiological and pathological mechanisms, and the type of PA of interest, respectively. Conclusion: The study of PA on anxiety or depression is experiencing ongoing expansion. Clinicians can consider advising patients to take mind–body exercise to improve mood. In addition, future researchers can explore the mind–body exercise and its impact on anxiety or depression, PA and anxiety or depression in specific populations, and adult neurogenesis of various exercise in anxiety or depression.

Abstract:Background: Rising anxiety and depression in primary school students adversely affect their development and academics, burdening families and schools. This trend necessitates urgent, focused research within this young demographic. This alarming trend calls for a systematic bibliometric analysis to develop effective preventative and remedial strategies. Objectives: This study aims to identify and analyze the prevailing research hotspots and emerging trends concerning anxiety and depression in primary school students, thereby furnishing a foundational reference for future academic endeavors in this area. Methods: This study uses the Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection database as the data source, focusing on literature published between 2013 and 2023 concerning anxiety and depression in primary school students. An initial search identified 1852 articles, which were then manually screened to exclude duplicates, conferences, announcements, and unrelated literature, resulting in 1791 relevant articles. The analysis, executed on December 31, 2023, employed CiteSpace and Vosviewer tools to assess various bibliometric indicators including authorship, country, institutional affiliations, publication trends, keyword frequency, and citation analysis. Results: The analysis revealed a corpus of 1,791 English-language articles, with a discernible upward trend in publications over the decade. The USA and China were the leading countries in this field, with 482and 272 papers, respectively. The research predominantly addresses the etiological factors of anxiety and depression, various intervention strategies, and the comorbidities associated with these conditions in the target population. Key research focuses have been identified in areas such as suicidal thoughts, bullying in schools, the impact of COVID-19, mindfulness interventions, and anxiety related to mathematics. Future research is projected to increasingly focus on the effects of mathematics anxiety on the psychological and behavioral outcomes in students. Conclusion: This study provides a critical visual and analytical overview of the key research areas and trends in the field of anxiety and depression among primary school students. It underscores the necessity of concentrating on the underlying causes and potential interventions. Such focused research is imperative for mitigating the mental health challenges faced by young students and enhancing their educational and developmental outcomes.
Identifying Research Hotspots and Future Development Trends in Current Psychology: A Bibliometric Analysis of the Past Decade's Publications

Abstract:By conducting a bibliometric analysis on 4,869 publications in Current Psychology from 2013 to 2022, this paper examined the annual publications and annual citations, as well as the leading institutions, countries, and keywords. CiteSpace, VOSviewer and SCImago Graphica were utilized for visualization analysis. On one hand, this paper analyzed the academic influence of Current Psychology over the past decade. On the other hand, it explored the research hotspots and future development trends within the field of international psychology. The results revealed that the three main research areas covered in the publications of Current Psychology were: the psychological well-being of young people, the negative emotions of adults, and self-awareness and management. The latest research hotspots highlighted in the journal include negative emotions, personality, and mental health. The three main development trends of Current Psychology are: 1) exploring the personality psychology of both adolescents and adults, 2) promoting the interdisciplinary research to study social psychological issues through the use of diversified research methods, and 3) emphasizing the emotional psychology of individuals and their interaction with social reality, from a people-oriented perspective.

Abstract:Background: With the advances in society and in response to changing times, college students have had to face multiple challenges. These challenges frequently affect the mental health of college students, leading to significant consequences for their social lives, personal well-being, and academic achievements, thereby attracting extensive societal attention. Therefore, examining the current status of research topics related to the mental health of college students can assist academia in dissecting the influencing factors and seeking solutions at their source or through early intervention. This can contribute to a better understanding of and effectively address this challenge. Method: CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to conduct a bibliometric analysis of 1609 journal articles indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database over the past two decades (2000-2022), which helped identify the current state of research and hot topics in the field based on development trends. Furthermore, this study analyzes and discusses the core authors, high-productivity countries and organizations, key journals, and keyword clustering in this field. This study clarifies the current research landscape, analyzes evolving trends based on developmental trajectories, and identifies forefront research hotspots. This study provides scholars with reference research directions and ideas for conducting subsequent studies. Results: Since the beginning of the 21st century, research on college students' mental health has increased, especially in the past three years, and due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and online distance learning, the number of publications has increased rapidly. With the increase in attention and publication volume, the countries and organizations contributing papers as well as core journals have all started to take shape. Cluster and evolution analyses found that several stable research topics have been formed in this research field, and many new and diverse topics are continuously emerging with time. Conclusion: and prospect: The findings prove that the field of college students' mental health has begun to take shape, gradually shifting from conceptual research to the implementation of specific interventions. However, whether specific interventions are effective and how effective they are require further investigation.
Research trends and hot spots of children's and adolescent mental health education: a bibliometric analysis from 2000 to 2022

Abstract:Purpose: The purpose of this study is to systematically review the research hotspots and frontiers in the field of international child and adolescent mental health education over the past 22 years. Furthermore, based on the changes in these hotspots, it aims to predict future research directions, providing valuable references for scholars engaged in subsequent research in this field. Methods: Using analytical tools such as CiteSpace, R-Tool, and VOSviewer, a quantitative analysis was conducted on 10,231 research papers in the field of children's mental health education from the WoSCC database published between 2000 and 2022. Results: The results indicate that mental health problems among children and adolescents have become a global public health issue, with a continuous increase in related research publications over the years. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated mental health problems among children and adolescents during periods of lockdown. The United States is a core research country in this field, and influential journals in this area include "Pediatrics" and "Social Science & Medicine." Ford, Tamsin is an authoritative author in this field. Popular research topics in this field include family education, children with disabilities, and substance abuse. Future research is likely to focus on the impact of physical activity on mental health.
Knowledge mapping analysis of mental health research on COVID-19

Abstract:Objective: A bibliometric analysis of COVID-19 is conducted to examine the developmental context, research hotspots, and frontiers of mental health. Methods: Using the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC), we have retrieved articles on mental health research related to COVID-19 which were published between 2019 and 2021. The coauthorship of countries, institutes, and authors was analyzed using VOSviewer 1.6.17, and the co-citation map of authors/references was analyzed as well. CiteSpace version 5.8.R3 was used to analyze keyword clusters and forecast research frontiers. Results: There were 8,856 articles retrieved, including 10,559 research institutes and 1,407 academic journals. The most published country and institutes were the United States (2190) and the University of London (373). Wang, Chengyu owned the highest co-citations (1810). Frontier topics can be identified by trending keywords, including "anxiety," "depression," "psychological distress," "quarantine," "post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)," "insomnia," and "Healthcare workers." Conclusion: The most common psychological problems of people during the epidemic are anxiety and depression. Insomnia and PTSD need to be solved under the normalization of the epidemic. GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scales are the most convenient and effective for screening anxiety and depression. Healthcare workers, older adults, and college students should be concerned, and social and family support is essential.
The 100 most-cited articles on bibliotherapy: a bibliometric analysis

Abstract:Bibliotherapy is an important part of art therapy and many publications regarding bibliotherapy have been published in the past. However, there has none about the scientometric study to systematically analyze the development and emerging research trends on bibliotherapy. Therefore, we performed a scientometric investigation to describe trends of this theme. All publications related to bibliotherapy published from 1980 to 2020 were identified and selected from Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index of Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewer was used to create collaborative network plots of countries, institutions, and authors and to perform cluster analysis of keywords. A total of 703 articles were searched, and we retrieved the 100 most cited articles published by 146 institutions from 15 countries in 57 academic journals. The United States occupied a leading position in the field of bibliotherapy and Linköping University was the most productive institution. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology was the most productive journal. Andersson G, Carlbring P, and Cuijpers P may have an important influence on bibliotherapy research. The applications in depression, anxiety, panic disorder, insomnia, and aphasia are the hot themes. This scientometric review provided a comprehensive understanding of the bibliotherapy research using quantitative and qualitative methods, which can provide references for researchers in the bibliotherapy field. As investigators continue to work, we look forward to the development of bibliotherapy efficacy and the implementation form and steps.
Bibliometric Analysis on the Comorbidity of Anxiety and Pain

Abstract:Abstract Background: Pain is commonly associated with psychological variables, such as anxiety and depression. However, only a few studies statistically analyzed the global trends and conducted a review through the bibliometric method. Purpose: This work aimed to analyze the general aspects of scientific studies worldwide on the comorbid of anxiety and pain research between 2000 and 2019. Methods: Published papers on the comorbid of anxiety and pain from the last 2 decades were retrieved from the Web of Science core collection. To assess whether the percentage statistically decreased or increased over time by using IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0. Results: A total of 1,329 papers met the inclusion criteria. The trend of annual publications presented a significant growth from 2000 to 2019 (P<0.001) by linear regression analysis. Clinical Neurology, Neurosciences, and Anesthesiology of subject categories had superior quality and were recognized as mainstream on comorbid anxiety and pain research. The United States (416, 30.85%) and the University of Washington (23, 1.73%) were the most prolific and high-quality country and institution, respectively. Postoperative pain (11.81%) and headache (11.14%) were the hottest topic among researchers. Music, distraction, adult, dental anxiety, and preoperative anxiety were emerging hotspots and could be regarded as research frontiers. Conclusions: Bibliometric analysis of the comorbidity of anxiety and pain and provides insights into research countries, institutions, authors, and core journal, visual, hot topics, overall tendency, and research frontiers that will aid in exploring hidden valuable field for future research.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to analyze the current state of research on preoperative anxiety in children through CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the identification of hot spots and frontiers. Method: Relevant data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection using the search terms children and preoperative anxiety. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace (5.7. R5) software, and Scimago Graphica. Results: A total of 622 articles were published between 2007 and 2022, with an increasing trend over time. Kain, Zeev N. (13; 2.09%) and Dalhousie University (15; 2.41%) were the most influential authors and most prolific institutions, respectively. The United States (121; 19.45%) was the country with the most publications. Pediatric anesthesia (55; 8.84%) had the most publications. High-frequency keywords were categorized into three themes, including nonpharmacologic interventions for preoperative anxiety in children, preoperative medications, and risk factors for anxiety; of these, "predictor" (38; 2016) and "sedative premedication" (20; 2016) were the most studied keywords over the past 6 years. "Distraction" (67; 2019) and "dexmedetomidine" (65; 2019) have been the main areas of interest in recent years. Conclusion: Research on preoperative anxiety in children has been the focus of increasing attention over the past fifteen years, with the majority of publications from high-income countries. This review provides a useful perspective for understanding research trends, hot topics, and research gaps in this expanding field.

Abstract:The correct assessment of adnexal skin tumours is recognized widely as a problem area for the general histopathologist. Problems in diagnosis may reflect unfamiliarity with a large and remarkably heterogeneous group of tumours and, in addition, confusion may be compounded by the inconsistent use of nomenclature in published works. These two factors are illustrated well by the small group of rare eccrine neoplasms which possess malignant potential. In this report we describe a case of eccrine syringomatous carcinoma (eccrine epithelioma) which, despite being well differentiated, metastasized widely and caused death 11 years after excision of the primary tumour. Such a well-documented case of biopsy proven metastasis from an eccrine carcinoma is of exceptional rarity. Implications for nomenclature are discussed.

Abstract:This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of published studies on the association between coronary heart disease (CHD) and depression or anxiety. The study also aimed to identify leading authors, institutions, and countries to determine research hotspots and obtain some hints from the speculated future frontiers. Publications about CHD and depression or anxiety between 2004 and 2020 were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database. Bibliographic information, such as authorship, country, citation frequency, and interactive visualization, was generated using VOSviewer1.6.16 and CiteSpace5.6.R5. In total, 8,073 articles were identified in the WOSCC database. The United States (2,953 publications), Duke University and Harvard University (214 publications), Psychosomatic Medicine (297 publications), and Denollet Johan. (99 publications) were the most productive country, institutions, journal, and author, respectively. The three hotspots of the research were “The relationship between depression and CHD,” “depression and myocardial infarction,” and “The characteristic of women suffering depression after MI.” The four future research frontiers are predicted to be “treating depression in CHD patients with multimorbidity,” “psychometric properties of instruments for assessing depression and anxiety in CHD patients,” “depression or anxiety in post-PCI patients,” and “other mental diseases in CHD patients.” Bibliometric analysis of the association between CHD and depressive disorders might identify new directions for future research.

Mapping the literature on anxiety associated with information related tasks: A scientometric analysis

Abstract:This research carried out a scientometric analysis of literature on anxiety associated with information-related tasks to determine its periodic growth, language dispersion, publication format, authorship patterns, and geographic origin. Four relevant databases (Web of Science, Scopus, LISTA, and LISA) were searched along with scanning of references of full-text papers to identify 381 related citations. The data set was analyzed using several bibliographic characteristics. The results showed that the volume of literature began to increase from the year 1986 and continued at a steady pace up to 2000. A phenomenal increase in the output was noticed in the 21st century with a per-year average of 16 publications till 2019. The majority of documents were for journal papers from the LIS field. English was the dominant language. More than half of the journal papers were published by only 27 journals. One-fourth of the journals produced a little less than two-thirds of the papers. A little less than half of the literature was the result of collaborative effort. A small core of authors produced more than one-third of the literature. UK and USA appeared as the leading contributors in the journal papers as well as all publications. The results are beneficial to scholars in several disciplines as they provides an interesting insight into the research trends by creating awareness about core authors, core journals, and core areas publishing this literature. These results also encourage researchers to initiate collaborative and inter-disciplinary research. This study makes a worthy contribution to this research area as no such a comprehensive study is available so far.

Abstract:Background: The Brain-Gut Axis, a bidirectional signaling pathway that connects the intestinal and central nervous systems, plays an important role in the development of psychiatric disorders. However, the overall research trends in this field are unclear. This study explored the patterns of research on the brain-gut axis and psychiatric disorders from a bibliometric perspective. Methods: Relevant data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection, with search terms on psychiatric disorders and the brain-gut axis. R (version 4.2.0), VOSviewer (version 1.6.17), CiteSpace software, and the online bibliometric platform were used in the data analysis. Results: A total of 2,298 articles published between 1993 and 2022 were identified, showing an increasing trend over time. China (1,859; 20.70%) was the country that contributed the most publications. The journal Nutrients (95; 4.13%) published the most publications. Cryan JF (153; H-index=73) and University College Cork (559; 22.54%) were the most influential author and the most productive institution, respectively. The high-frequency keywords were clustered into six themes, including neurodegenerative diseases, stress-related diseases, immune, brain behavior, depression, and probiotic-related topics; of which, depression (880; 2019), anxiety (207; 2018) and autism (191; 2019) were the most studied psychiatric disorders in the past 5 years. "Depressive symptom" (2019-2020) and "probiotic treatment" (2019-2020) were the main areas addressed in recent years. Conclusion: Research on the brain-gut axis and psychiatric disorders has attracted increasing attention in the past decade, with most publications originating from high-income level countries. This study provides a useful perspective on understanding the research trends, key hot topics, and research gaps in this expanding field.

Abstract:Anxiety disorder is a complex disease with the influence of environmental and genetic factors and multimolecular participation, and it is also one of the most common mental disorders. The causes of disorders are not clear but may include a variety of social, psychological, and biological factors. Therefore, neither genetics, neurobiology, nor neuroimaging can independently explain the pathological mechanism. By searching the Web of Science databases, Derwent Innovation Patent database, ClinicalTrials.gov database, and Cortellis database, we analyze the current situation of papers, patents, clinical trials, and drugs of anxiety disorder. Second, the existing literature was reviewed to summarize the neurophysiological mechanism, brain imaging, gene, anti-anxiety drugs, and other aspects of anxiety disorders. This article reviews the research status of anxiety disorders. The heterogeneity of the disease, lack of treatment effectiveness, and gaps in translational medicine still present barriers to further advancement. Thus, in-depth explorations of the underlying biological mechanisms of anxiety disorders, the detection and intervention of biological targets, and further developments based on existing intervention strategies will drive future research on anxiety disorders. Tracking Population-Level Anxiety Using Search Engine Data: Ecological Study

Abstract:Background: Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental disorders globally, with a substantial impact on quality of life. The prevalence of anxiety disorders has increased substantially following the COVID-19 pandemic, and it is likely to be further affected by a global economic recession. Understanding anxiety themes and how they change over time and across countries is crucial for preventive and treatment strategies. Objective: The aim of this study was to track the trends in anxiety themes between 2004 and 2020 in the 50 most populous countries with high volumes of internet search data. This study extends previous research by using a novel search-based methodology and including a longer time span and more countries at different income levels. Methods: We used a crowdsourced questionnaire, alongside Bing search query data and Google Trends search volume data, to identify themes associated with anxiety disorders across 50 countries from 2004 to 2020. We analyzed themes and their mutual interactions and investigated the associations between countries' socioeconomic attributes and anxiety themes using time-series linear models. This study was approved by the Microsoft Research Institutional Review Board. Results: Query volume for anxiety themes was highly stable in countries from 2004 to 2019 (Spearman r=0.89) and moderately correlated with geography (r=0.49 in 2019). Anxiety themes were predominantly long-term and personal, with "having kids," "pregnancy," and "job" the most voluminous themes in most countries and years. In 2020, "COVID-19" became a dominant theme in 27 countries. Countries with a constant volume of anxiety themes over time had lower fragile state indexes (P=.007) and higher individualism (P=.003). An increase in the volume of the most searched anxiety themes was associated with a reduction in the volume of the remaining themes in 13 countries and an increase in 17 countries, and these 30 countries had a lower prevalence of mental disorders (P<.001) than the countries where no correlations were found. Conclusions: Internet search data could be a potential source for predicting the country-level prevalence of anxiety disorders, especially in understudied populations or when an in-person survey is not viable.
Progress and Prospects of Research on the Impact of Forest Therapy on Mental Health: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract:This study aims to assess the global progress in research on the impact of forest therapy on mental health by using bibliometric analysis. We analyzed the relevant literature from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database by utilizing software tools such as Bibliometrix (Version 4.1), VOSviewer (Version 1.6.19), and CiteSpace (Version 6.3.R1). There appears to be a growing trend in annual publication volumes from 2006 to 2023. Miyazaki was identified as the most prolific author in this field. Japan and South Korea lead in research contributions, while China has the highest number of publications. The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health is the journal with the most publications and citations in this area. Recent keyword clustering reveals an increasing frequency of studies on anxiety and urban green spaces. Research findings suggest that exposure to negative air ions and compounds released by plants can stimulate the five human senses, reduce cortisol levels, and improve mental health. Although studies have demonstrated significant effects of forest therapy in alleviating stress, anxiety, and depression, more large-scale and long-term studies are needed for further evidence. Additionally, it is crucial to explore the impact of different forest types, terrains, altitudes, climates, and air conditions on the effectiveness of forest therapy on mental health.
